6-Unit Play. Take #278. New Orleans -9.5 vs Cleveland (Sunday @ 1:00p.m. est).
The Saints have Super Bowl aspirations so do you really think they are going to start the year off by losing two home games to the Bucs and Browns of all teams? Probably not. Look, much has been made of the defense and how poor it looked, but they shouldn't be written off after one bad game. The Bucs has over 2 months to prepare, and they exploit what they saw on film and the rest is history. Now we are expected to believe that Cleveland - the very Cleveland who is still winless in their last 17 games, can walk into NWO and score enough points to keep up with the Saints? The Saints are fine offensively and will be able to put up a ton of points against a defensive unit that benefitted from 5 turnovers in week 1. They won't get 5 turnovers in week 1 and will likely wear out by the end of the third quarter. The Saints have far too many weapons and with their defense in a bounce-back spot, we'll gladly lay the points and let the public overreact and think the Browns are good.

3-Unit Play. Take #264. Atlanta -5.5 vs Carolina (Sunday @ 1:00p.m. est).

For starters, many thought Atlanta should have won the season opener, but much like last year they stalled in the red zone and that's on Steve Sarkisian to figure out. Now the Falcons are back on their home turf where they've been much better, and one has to believe that Sark will get the play calling right and put up a ton of points on a Panthers squad that is slowly getting banged up on defense with Luke Keuchly nursing a minor knee injury. He should be good to go, but one has to worry about his ability to be 100% and be able to stop the thunder and lightning duo of Freeman and Coleman. Not to mention, Julio had a monster day in week 1 but just couldn't find the end zone. We expect the Falcons to feed him the ball again and do everything in their power to get him a score while putting up a boatload of points themselves. The Panthers also struggled to put up points in week 1, as they put up just 16 to a questionable Dallas defense. With Greg Olsen out once again, it's on Cam and CMC to do the damage and we just don't think on the road this is a good spot for them.

3-Unit Play. Take #267. Under 43 LA Chargers vs Buffalo (Sunday @ 1:00p.m. est).

It's essentially now or never for both teams. From a Chargers perspective, they had high hopes coming into the season and once again laid an egg on opening day in front of a ?home? crowd. The defense was torched, and they also had a case of the dropsies on offense. If the Chargers are going to win games, they will likely need to outscore their opponent in comparison to playing lockdown defense. We expect the Chargers defense to perform much better and while they may not get 5 INTS like they did last year against the Bills, it'll still be enough to get the job done. Speaking of terrible offense, the Bills have no weapons and are likely headed for a top-3 pick in the draft. One thing to make note of is that the Bills defense is actually supposed to be good. Throw out last week's game because the Bills were never in, and in front of their home crowd, we can expect the Bills to give their maximum effort

Take Detroit/San Francisco GAME TOTAL OVER as my 8-Unit NFL Game of the Year for Sunday afternoon. This pick falls into one of my top NFL systems and I'm seeing a 34-30 type of game here Sunday given these two quarterbacks and pass happy offenses. The 49ers played one of the best defensive teams in the NFL last week on the road and still put up 16 points despite turning the ball over 4 times. The Lions also played a very good Jets defense which was why we had the Jets as a top play last week as they were an under the radar team. This Lions offense will be just fine against the 49ers defense this week and I expect Stafford to throw for 400+ yards against them. The Lions did put up 300 passing yards against a good Jets defense last week but 4 interceptions cost them any chance in that game along with converting just 23% on 3rd down. The 49ers allowed the Vikings to convert 41% of their 3rd downs last week and they gave up 343 total yards against an offensive team that will not be as good as the Lions will be this season. So, you can expect the Lions to get a big boost offensively this week against the 49ers defense. The 49ers were just 1 for 4 in the redzone last week against arguably the best defense in the NFL so you can also expect their offensive numbers to improve greatly against this Lions defense that gave up 48 points to the Jets. We have two very good quarterbacks with lots of weapons facing off here Sunday against two of the worst defenses in the NFL so I expect a real barn burner. Play the OVER as we move to 5-0 in the NFL this season if hopefully my NFL play won Thursday night.

Analysis:
I know this is NOT the sharp side - but here we go. Jacksonville is looking at this game as both revenge for the AFC Championship game last year, and of course as the barometer to prove they belong in the SN discussion. New England is looking at this as one game towards another championship and know that the significance is bigger, because they may well see J'ville in the playoffs. Not to mention that they don't want to give hope to the hopeless. In that Championship game last season New England was without Hightower, an have subsequently signed Adrian Claibborne, so although their offense is "different," it's their defense that's MUCH better than what J'ville saw last year. J'ville is still one-dimensional on offense, and the loss of Marquis Lee is bigger than people think. It won't matter if Fournette plays or not, New England will make° Bortles beat them and I don't think he can. I've talked twice on the Dream Pod about Bortles' fourth quarter numbers - last season he has a passer rating of 16 in games that were within a touchdown in the fourth. Against the Giants last week, in the fourth quarter, he was 4-9 with 30 yard passing. Add to that the Jalen Ramsey stuff - although he hasn't said much directly about Brady, he doesn't have to, and of course he did say stuff about Gronkowski - New England is quiet about on the outside, as they usually are, but I'd be willing to bet that they are using it as more motivation. In the end, yes, J'ville is at home with revenge, but New England has better players and the better coach - and quietly perhaps as much or more motivation to stay on top. Out.

The Lions were awful last week, but one game should not move a line so high. The 49ers should not be this big of a favorite to anybody just yet. Matt Patricia is already feeling the pressure as the Lions coach in a game that couldn’t have gone worse, but let’s give those Jets some credit. The 49ers do not have the same type of defense and are extremely thin at linebacker. Matt Stafford should have a huge bounce back game with the middle of the field wide open. The 49ers are missing their top 4 tacklers from last year and still are returning guys that are coming back from major surgery. This Lions team has weapons and should put up points. Look for this to be a close game that comes down to the wire. Take the Lions and the Over.

Heading into the second week of the NFL season, there are plenty of good contests on the schedule. Let’s take a look!

Carolina Panthers at Atlanta Falcons
The Carolina Panthers are coming off a 16-8 win over the Cowboys, while the Falcons failed to convert in the red zone against the Eagles and fell, 18-12. Atlanta and Carolina split last season with Atlanta as the favorites in both contests. Once again, Atlanta is the favorite, this time by 5.5 points. Carolina holds a +12 to +4 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “average” versus “dead” status on the “Team Strength Oscillator”. Although early, it’s a critical game for the Falcons. If they lose they will be two games back and essentially three behind Carolina, who would hold the head to head match up advantage. Look for the Falcons to win, but the Panthers could cover.

Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers
In this classic NFC North battle, both teams enter victorious in the season opener. Minnesota comes in a one point favorite and the outcome of this game could be largely dependent on the status of Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He lead a miraculous comeback following a knee injury and is questionable for this game. Minnesota holds a commanding advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator and “burning hot” versus “ice cold down” on the Team Strength Oscillator. The Vikings won both meetings last season. Keep an eye on Rodgers, if he goes, take the Packers. If not, it should be a relatively easy win for the Vikings.

Kansas City Chiefs at Pittsburgh Steelers
The Chiefs enter coming off a win over the Chargers, while the Steelers play the Browns to what must be considered to the franchise a disappointing tie. Pittsburgh won last year’s meeting against Kansas City as a road underdog and enter 5.5 point favorites. The Chiefs have a +18 to +7 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, however the Steelers are somewhat inexplicably “burning hot” versus “average” on the Team Strength Oscillator. Playing without Le’Veon Bell, the Steelers clearly are not the same team. There is no indication he’ll be joining the team soon as he is officially off the team depth chart. I see the Chiefs continuing the Steelers’ woes, winning the game outright.

Arizona Cardinals at Los Angeles Rams
The Cardinals enter Los Angeles coming off a lackluster performance in a loss to the Redskins. On the other hand, the Rams defeated the Raiders in somewhat easy fashion on Monday Night Football. The Rams won both meetings last season and are 11 point favorites this time around. They hold a commanding +24 to +9 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator. There is little to suggest the Cardinals can be competitive in this one. I see not only a win for the Rams, but covering this large spread in a blowout game.

New England Patriots at Jacksonville Jaguars
In the best match up of the week, both teams enter coming off an opening day win. New England won the last meeting in the AFC Championship Game. This one is a toss up, a “pick em” game in Jacksonville. The Patriots hold a +26 to +17 advantage on the Power Ranking Indicator, however the Jaguars are “burning hot” versus “average up” for the Patriots. Its difficult to pick against New England with their track record and Tom Brady still performing magic at quarterback. However, the Jaguars have revenge on their minds, have a stellar defense and playing at home. In this “pick em” game, I pick Jacksonville to hand New England and early season loss.

Oakland Raiders at Denver Broncos
Things could not have gone worse for Jon Gruden in his return to the NFL sideline. First making perhaps the worst trade in NFL history, the Raiders played poorly in the opener, losing to the Jets, 48-17. On the flip side, the Broncos edged the Seahawks to get off on the right foot. Oakland and Denver are tied on the Power Ranking Indicator and the teams were even in head to head play last season, both winning at home. Clearly in a rebuilding mode, the Raiders don’t appear to be ready to win in Denver, which is a tough venue for any visiting team. Look for the Broncos, who are 4.5 point favorites, to win and cover the spread.

The Boston Red Sox have wrapped up the American League East and are the onlyteam (as of September 14th) to clinch a playoff place. There are just 16 daysleft in the MLB season and teams are still looking for one last run at aplayoff spot. MLB betting is nearly to the end of the season, but punterscan still wager on plenty of action in the upcoming postseason.
Major sportsbooks have bestowed the MLB World Series futures favoritetag on the Red Sox. The team is +300 to win the World Series according to topbookies. Not only were the Red Sox the first team to 100 wins, but they havecompletely embarrassed the New York Yankees, who currently sit 10.5 games back.
The Yankees were expected to be the AL East’s best team by experts thanks totheir acquisition of Giancarlo Stanton. However, the dominance New York wasexpected to have never materialized. The Yankees are fifth favorites to win theFall Classic at odds of +1100.
In the National League, the Chicago Cubs have posted the best record inbaseball. Joe Maddon has done another fine job in the dugout, but the Cubshaven’t made the postseason yet. The Milwaukee Brewers just won’t die, andcould still overtake the Cubs for the NL Central title. Chicago is MLB betting+750 to win the World Series, while Milwaukee is +1300.

Los Angeles’ steady play has been the contrast of the ArizonaDiamondbacks. Tory Lovullo’s team has faded in the NL West and now sit 4.5games behind the Rockies. The Diamondbacks are 3-7 in their last 10 games.

Even though they are at home for this date with the defending Super Bowl Champs, I do not expect Ryan Fitzpatrick to duplicate his 4 touchdown pass performance - 5 overall TD's - from a week ago against this Eagles defense that held Atlanta to only 12-points in their Week One win and cover at home. Too many playmakers on this Philly "D", and make no mistake, they will make some big plays against the suspect Fitzpatrick!


As for the Birds on offense, Nick Foles was not in prime form, but he got the offense going enough to earn the victory, and they have covered in 7 of their last 10 games away from home - Super Bowl included.


Foles did not do much during the preseason, and he sure didn't do much against the Falcons, but with a few more extra days of prep, expect him to ratchet-up his level of play today as Philadelphia shows us a little more than they showed in their 18-12 win over Atlanta.


Not yet sold on Tampa, even with that shocker in the Big Easy last week. Play

Analysis:
It's too bad for Odell Beckham Jr. that he has to play outdoors and with such a weak-armed quarterback as Eli Manning. Beckham is a great wideout, but he's limited by his quarterback.


Manning is well past his prime. He struggles to throw downfield. So does Dak Prescott. Both quarterbacks are challenged with their vertical throws. They are more game managers than dangerous passers. Both teams have an excellent running back.


So this matchup has all the makings of a conservative, low-scoring affair especially considering both team's defensive improvement. The Giants held Jacksonville's offense to 13 points last weŒek. The Cowboys, with a healthy Sean Lee, have a top-10 defense with the potential to become elite.


The Cowboys have two things going for them, an underrated defense and Ezekiel Elliott. What they don't have are dangerous receivers and a proven kicker after they cut Dan Bailey.
