3-Unit Play. #467. Take New Orleans Saints +3 over the Atlanta Falcons (Sunday @ 1pm)

We'll gladly take the field goal here with the Saints with the better playcaller, better quarterback and the healthier defense here than the Falcons. The Falcons lost Neal for the season likely here and they come off a very nice win over the Panthers but this Saints team is going to be very hungry after an absolute dud of a performance last week against the Browns at home. This is a divison game, and we get the better quarterback with the points here as this is a Saints team very hungry for an important win in the division after losing the opening week to the Bucs. Would not be a bit surprised here to see the Saints cover and possibly win Outright here.

7-Unit Play. #470. Take Baltimore Ravens -5 over Denver Broncos (Sunday @ 1pm)

How much do we really know about Denver? They beat a Seahawk team that is 0-2 and they beat a Oakland team that can't score. Now, they have to facea Baltimore team who just gave up 34 points their last game to Cincinnati a division rival, who is going to be mad, coming back home, wanting to avoid a 1-2 start to a year that Harbaugh is on the hot seat and do you really trust Case Keenum here against this Ravens defense who is going to get after it. The Broncos defense is obviously very good but if the Seahawks could figure out how to score points here, then it's certainly possible for the Ravens and Flacco to do the same as Flacco has had 50+ passing attempts last game which has gone a bit unnoticed. The Ravens got dominated early that game and we like them to start off this game very fast. We just cannot see the Ravens starting 1-2 and this is a nice spot to go against the Broncos who are on the road for their first game and likely struggle a bit out of the gates.

3-Unit Play. #479. Take San Francisco 49ers +6.5 over Kansas City Chiefs (Sunday @ 1pm)

Pat Mahomes is the savior! Pat Mahomes is the savior! Well, hold on a bit here. He's going to be a great quarterback and he's got immense talent (same kid who beat out Baker Mayfield which is why Baker transferred and same kid who Andy Reid decided to let Alex Smith go). Having said that, the Niners played like garbage last week against the Lions barely winning, gets to face Mahomes here and the Chiefs who are very high on everyone's board and will up for this game in a massive way this weekend. Jimmy G is no slouch and this many points with a competent Niners defense that nearly beat the Vikings and should have it it wasn't for a dropped pass, sets up well here for the Niners to bounce-back defensively after a poor showing against the Lions. Niners hang tough and this is a great public fade this week.

My football totals system is a combination of relevant statistical data, history involving similar games, and current market data. A play is made when enough of these factors align. The size of the play is determined by a combination of how many of these factors align, how much value is perceived, and how confident I am about the play.


Projected Points Scored = 52


Miami has a balanced offense, and Oakland's defense is severely lacking in many areas. One of those areas is their pass rush. The Raiders have arguably the worst pass rush in the NFL now that Khalil Mack is playing in Chicago. Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill has proven to be a very solid QB when he has a clean pocket, and he should have plenty of that in this one.


Oakland's offense is better than what we've seen so far in 2018. They faced a very tough Rams defense in Week 1, and then traveled to Denver to take on another solid D. I expect the Raiders to find plenty of success against a Miami defense that faced a rookie QB in Week 2 (Jets' Sam Darnold) and Titans backup QB Blaine Gabbert in Week 1. Derek Carr is much better than either of those two, and he has solid weapons in receivers Amari Cooper and Jordy Nelson, and TE Jared Cook.

After scoring a combined 80 points in upset road wins at the Chargers and Steelers, the Chiefs and wonder-boy QB Patrick Mahomes find themselves the darlings of recreational bettors everywhere. But this is a tough spot for KC to cover, as this line is a bit inflated. And teams playing their home opener in Week 3 are just 8-24-2 ATS since 2007.


This will be KC's first time as a favorite this season. Laying point with a lousy defense is never a good idea. The Chiefs have allowed the most yards through two games, and they will once again be without the QB of their defense, safety Eric Berry. Niners QB Jimmy Garrapolo is 8-1 as a starter, and more than capable of keeping his team in this one.


Bottom line: I love getting points with the better defense, and the 49ers D welcomes back LB Reuben Foster from suspension. I wouldn't be surprised if Jimmy G leads the Niners to an upset victory.

The Jags are off a huge win over the patriots and it will be difficult ot sustain that motivation even for a divisional game with the Titans. SUNDAY NFL SELECTIONS

1-Unit Play. Take #463 Cincinnati (+3) over Carolina (1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23)
I think that the Bengals are the better team in this one. We went against Carolina for our Game of the Year last week. And even though they put up 400 yards of offense it never seemed like they were ever really a threat to win that game. Yes, the Panthers are tough at home. But they have also had to deal with a lot of hurricane-related distractions this week and that could take its toll. Also, the Bengals defense is tougher in the front seven than Atlanta's. And I think that the Bengals can dominate Carolina's beaten-up offensive line. The Bengals had extra time to rest and prep for this game and including the preseason they are on a 7-1 ATS rush. I have this Carolina team struggling this season and I think that they are going to take a loss here.

5-Unit Play. Take #466 Jacksonville (-6.5) over Tennessee (1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23)
There is pretty much no way that Tennessee should've beaten Houston last week. They scored on a fake punt and took advantage of some breathtaking Houston stupidity to absolutely steal a win at home last week. Now they are on the road and I think they are going to get pummeled. It absolutely doesn't matter who starts for the Titans this week. Blaine Gabbert sucks and will get lit up by the Jacksonville defense. And injured Marcus Mariotta stinks and will get lit up by the Jacksonville defense. The Titans lost their best receiving option and they might still be without their top three tackles. Tennessee was outgained by 154 yards last week and if you include the preseason they have been outgained in seven straight contests dating back to last season. Not great! They have a rookie head coach going on the road here and that didn't work so well in their game at Miami in Week 1. Jacksonville is an entirely different animal and this team is tough. They are playing at a high level and have a lot of confidence after dismantling the Patriots last week. That was a big revenge win for the Jags. Now they want to get a revenge win against a Titans team that swept the series last year. The home team has won seven of the last eight meetings and the favorite has gone 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings. I don't see any way that this game isn't a bludgeoning.

2-Unit Play. Take #468 Atlanta (-3) over New Orleans (1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23)
New Orleans should be 0-2 right now. And those two losses should've come at home against the Bucs and Browns - not exactly top competition. And both games were at home. So the red flags are flying all over this group right now. The New Orleans defense looks terrible. And that's bad news going up against an Atlanta offense that just dominated a very good Carolina offense one week after it dominated a very good Philadelphia defense. The Falcons rang up 31 points against Carolina and they should've scored much, much more against the Eagles. I don't think that will be a worry this week. The home team has won three straight and the Falcons have won three of four in this series. I know the underdog has done well when these two meet. But I just think that Atlanta looks like the better team right now. They are one of the best home teams in the NFL. And the Saints, who have been outgained in back-to-back weeks and nearly lost back-to-back weeks as a double-digit favorite - are clearly being overrated by the public and the market.

2-Unit Play. Take #475 Green Bay (-3) over Washington (1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23)
I am stunned at how good Washington looked in Week 1 and then how bad they looked in Week 2. This team obviously doesn't have a home field advantage and there is now bad karma surrounding this group again. Aaron Rodgers is absolutely slinging it right now. The Packers have scored 53 points against two of arguably the top five defenses in football right now. The Redskins couldn't get off the field against Andrew Luck and the Colts so I don't expect much more against Rodgers and the Packers. Also, Captain Checkdown, Alex Smith, is going to have to make some plays if he is going to want to beat Rodgers. And I don't know that he has it in him with this well below average receiving group, which is worlds worse than what Smith was packing when he was in Kansas City. Green Bay is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings with the Redskins, dating all the way back to the mid-80's. I think it is tough to pass on Rodgers against just about anyone with this short number and I will bit here with the Skins.

2-Unit Play. Take #482 L.A. Rams (-7) over L.A. Chargers (4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23)
I will take the home team in the ?Battle for L.A.?. (God that is a lame slogan.) The Rams are just the better team. And for my money they are the best team in football. Over the last six quarters they have outscored their opponents 57-0. And the games haven't even been that close. I don't buy all the Chargers hype. At all. Why does everyone love this team so much? I like Phil Rivers as much as the next guy. But he's not getting any younger. And when was the last big road game that this team has won? They were no competitive in their home opener against the Chiefs, a team that has an offense that is as potent as the Rams'. San Diego doesn't have a very good offensive line, their lead running back is banged up, they still don't have Joey Bosa, and their secondary is mediocre on its best day. There are too many holes on this team that they expect Rivers to cover for. And it is not as if Rivers hasn't had his share of two- and three-interception games trying to keep this team afloat. That's exactly what I see here. I think the Rams front seven will dominate this game and force Rivers into some mistakes. From their the cool efficiency of the Rams offense should take control of this game.

1-Unit Play. Take #484 Arizona (+6) over Chicago (4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23)
Win on Monday, lose on Sunday. Just look at the Jets. They looked like world beaters in their dominating MNF week in Week 1. What happened? They came back home on a short week and threw up on themselves against the Dolphins. Now its Chicago's turn after a big MNF win at home against Seattle. The Bears still don't have a quarterback. And I don't think their offense is good enough where they can be expected to just walk into an opponent's stadium and be expected to come home with a win by a touchdown or more. Arizona is in early season desperation mode. They can be excused for getting thrashed by the Rams last week; L.A. is going to do that to a lot of teams this year. I think the Cardinals can show a baseline competence in this game and while I expect them to lose I think they will do it in a close, sloppy, poorly executed game that I can see being somewhere around 23-20.

7-Unit Play. Take #487 New England (-6.5) over Detroit (8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 23)
I don't see any way that this game isn't a blowout for the Patriots. First off, you never need an excuse to bet on the Patriots. Over the last 15 years this is the most profitable team in NFL history against the spread. They have covered nearly 65 percent of their games during that stretch and the Patriots are 39-18 ATS in their last 57 games over the last four seasons. New England is also coming off a loss. They are a phenomenal 43-18 (70.1 percent) ATS in their last 61 games after a loss and this team usually goes bonkers on opponents after taking an L. Bill Belichick is also facing one of his old assistants, Matt Patricia. Patricia is a pud. He did next to nothing to earn that job and he has been nothing but incompetent to this point in it. I think that Belichick can and will absolutely bury his former defensive coordinator. The Lions have looked like trash in both of their games. They were blown out by 47-10 in their home opener by the Jets. (Read that sentence again.) Then they were down 30-13 late in the fourth quarter against the 49ers before some vintage Matt Stafford garbage time scores made that final score look way, way closer than it should've been. This team is not good. By all reports the players don't really like Patricia and haven't taken to his style. And they don't have the personnel to really get after the Patriots in this one. These guys were one of the worst teams in the league in the preseason and have been one of the worst teams in the league to this point in the season. We've seen what the Pats do to bad teams: they bury them. That's exactly what I think they do here.

I see a good old fashioned shootout between two teams with gunslinging quarterbacks and shaky defenses. The Raiders have only put up 32 points in their two games. But they have faced two very strong defenses in the Rams and Broncos. The Dolphins are not in that class. And I think that their defense has been playing over its head a bit. The Jets squandered several opportunities last week and rang up nearly 400 yards. I think the Raiders will be able to take advantage of those opportunities. The Dolphins are just No. 26 in total yards on offense. But I think they have more talent in the passing game than they've let on. And I expect them to take some shots down the field against a Raiders secondary that has been up and down. The 'over' is 5-0 in the last five meetings between these two teams, including a 27-24 contest down in South Beach last November. And the 'over' is 10-4 in Miami's last 14 home games. In fact, the Fins have gone 'over' in nine of their last 13 games overall. Oakland has gone 'under' in nine straight regular season games and 12 of 13 games overall, dating back to last year. I know you never want to bet against a streak. But those numbers are unsustainable. Both teams are going to ring up at least 20 points and I see this one getting 'over'.

The Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles have come out not looking like the team they were at the end of last season. the defensive front has done very well, the the Eagles have been getting torched in the air to the tune of 618 yards and more importantly 8.1 yards per attempt. The opponents QB rating sits at 95.18. The Colts offense was expected to be infused by the return of Andrew Luck. he has generated 241 yards a game in the air, but being on the field longer has helped the defense that through 2 weeks ranks #10 in tards allowed. This line looks like what it would have been last year, but Indy has played above that and the Eagles have been below. Indy has yet to allow better than 330 total yards, while the Eagles gave up 393 in the air alone last week. Looks like to many points here, make the play on Indianapolis.

The Bengals have a core of players that have been around for awhile in Andy Dalton and A. J. Green, and not a lot of changes have been made. So far it all looks good, as the Bengals are off a pair of 34-23 wins to start 2-0 on the season. They have given up 300+ yards in the air in both games, but that is more a product of getting ahead and forcing their opponent to throw, as opponents have thrown over 100 times in two games. Carolina held a poor Dallas offense to just eight points in a Week 1 win, but gave up 31 to Atlanta the next week. The Panthers took some gambles, and have a lot of aging veterans expected to make impacts. Carolina is allowing nearly five yards per carry on the ground, and 7.2 yards per attempt in the air, and Dalton and Co. are hot right now. Play Cincinnati.

Wil Lutz kicked a 44-yard field goal with 21 seconds left and the Saints took advantage of several missed kicks by the Browns to pull out the win. Drew Brees completed a 42-yard pass to Ted Ginn Jr. to set up the kick. New Orleans won't take this week's game lightly as the Falcons rebounded from a tough loss at Philadelphia to defeat Carolina 31-24. Matt Ryan actually ran for two touchdowns and finished 23-for-28 for 272 yards. Brees was 28-for-35 for 243 yards and Michael Thomas had 12 catches for 89 yards and two TDs. The underdog has covered the spread seven of the last nine meetings and the UNDER is 7-3-1 the last 11 meetings. The Saints are 14-5 ATS their last 19 road games and the Falcons are 1-4 ATS their last five following a win dating to last season. The Falcons have gone UNDER eight of their last nine games, including the last seven games of the 2017 regular season and playoffs. Take the Saints and UNDER.

Joe Flacco has been tailing off for several years now, and doesn't look much better unless the opponent is Buffalo this year. Without a running game, this team is not a big threat. Denver's QB woes killed the season last year, but appear to be in good hands now. Take the points on Denver.

The New York Giants suffered so many injuries to their offensive weapons last year, there were just no players that were game breakers in the skill positions for most of the season. They finally got Odell Beckham Jr. resigned, Sterling Shepard is back, and they drafted Saquon Barkley out of Penn State, and on paper the offense looks formidable. They have not been able to put it together yet. Houston is also 0-2, and Deshaun Watson doesn't appear to have that same quickness, and doesn't look 100% healthy yet. The Giants expect so much more of themselves, and at 0-2 and sitting alone at the bottom of the NFC East they will bring a lot of energy to this one. The line here looks very inflated, and I think this one comes down to the last possession, so I will ride with New York.

Alex Smith finished 33-for-46 despite some drops by his receivers and the offensive line needs improvement. Green Bay's first two games have gone OVER and Aaron Rodgers played with a knee brace while throwing for 281 yards on 30-for-42 against the Vikings. Rodgers is officially listed as day-to-day, but is expected to play this week. The Packers are 14-3 OVER their last 17 games after recording at least 350 total offense yards their previous game. The Redskins have covered five of their last six games after a loss dating to last season and they are 4-1 ATS after an ATS loss. Green Bay is 36-17 OVER its last 53 road contests and 24-7 OVER its last 31 games overall. The teams last met in 2016 and the Redskins won 42-24 on the road. Go with the Redskins and the OVER.

Buffalo is getting raked over the coals in the media, with many proclaiming this the worst team in the NFL. 0-16? Hold on here, it's only Week 3 and this point spread is through the roof. They scored 20 points last week against the Chargers as this young team improved in the second half. Buffalo's pass rush woke up as QB Philip Rivers was hurried significantly more over the final two quarters. Trent Murphy, Lorenzo Alexander and Jerry Hughes all got in the offensive backfield to harass Rivers, with Alexander and Hughes registering sacks. Hughes also had three quarterback hits. The Bills are 53-29 ATS after two or more consecutive spread losses. The secondary is the biggest concern this week, with Vontae Davis' abrupt retirement and Phillip Gaines elbow injury that kept him out of the second half. Buffalo's cornerback contingent is suddenly thin so look for Minnesota to attack them deep downfield. Buffalo is 16-7 OVER the total when following a straight-up loss, plus 11-5 OVER after a spread loss. Minnesota is a huge favorite but hasn't been dominant, off a tie with rival Green Bay and a close win over San Francisco. They have a tough two-game road trip on deck, at the Rams and defending champion Eagles. The Vikings are 95-67 OVER when the total is between 35.5 and 42 points, so back the huge dog in an offensive show. Play Buffalo and the OVER.

The Los Angeles Chargers got their first win in a 31-20 victory at Buffalo as Melvin Gordon scored three touchdowns, one rushing and two pass receptions.QB Philip Rivers was 23-for-27 passing for 256 yards and three touchdowns. Gordon is expected to play this week after enduring a minor upper-body injury. The Chargers now are 15-7-1 ATS their last 23 road games and the Rams are 5-11-1 ATS their last 17 home contests. Also, the Rams are 1-6 ATS the last seven years in Week 3. The Chargers got 77 yards on 11 carries from Austin Ekeler and receiver Mike Williams caught three passes for 48 yards while Keenan Allen had six receptions for 67 yards. The emerging young talent on offense is a good sign for the Chargers and the defense held the Bills to 293 total yards. The Rams shut out the weak Arizona Cardinals 34-0 as Todd Gurley ran for three touchdowns and Jared Goff threw for 354 yards. The Chargers have enough talent on both sides of the ball to keep this one close and they looked much improved from their season-opening game against Kansas City. Grab the points with the Chargers.

Chicago is winless on the road and takes a long trip to Arizona. They also have a short week, coming off a Monday night game against Seattle. The Bears are 3-8 ATS when following a straight-up win, as well as 6-16-1 ATS after allowing fewer than 90 rushing yards in their previous game. 24-year-old quarterback Mitch Trubisky still has a long ways to go, tossing a pair of interceptions, and failing to connect on deep balls with several open receivers and was often too eager to bolt from the pocket. Yet, here they are a good-sized road favorite. The Bears are also 17-4 OVER the total when following a Monday night appearance, as well as 95-68 OVER as a favorite. Arizona ran into the overpowering Rams defense last week, but face a Chicago defense that is #18 in passing yards allowed. The Cardinals are 15-6-1 ATS after allowing 250+ yards passing in their previous game, plus 43-22 ATS at home after two or more straight losses. Unlike recent years, they have a reliable veteran QB in Sam Bradford, who has thrown more TDs than picks. They've simplified the offense for this week, too. The Cardinals are 40-16 OVER the total after gaining less than 250 total yards the previous contest, as well as 35-16 OVER after getting less than 150 yards passing the previous game. NFL teams scoring nine or fewer points in two straight games are 37-11 ATS that next game. Playing their second home game in three weeks, back the home dog in a game featuring more scoring than oddsmakers expect. Play Arizona and take OVER.

QB Dak prescott seems to lack the receiving corps, and is throwing for just 5.5 yards per attempt on the season. Russell Wilson doesn't lose very often at home where he is 34-9 SU, and with his Seahawks at 0-2, this is a must win and he failed them with a pick-6 and fumble in the fourth quarter last game vs. the Bears. Wilson rises to the occasion, so play on Seattle.

Kyle Hendricks owns a stellar 1.63 ERA over his last six starts, never allowing more than two runs during this stretch.
Carlos Rodon has allowed four earned runs in three of his last four starts, yet the Under was 3-0-1 in those games. Rodon owns a 2.72 ERA and 1.02 WHIP at Guaranteed Rate Field this season, so I like his chances to bounce back today.
The Cubs bullpen is solid, and the White Sox pen has been much better at home than on the road.
We also get Doug Eddings behind the plate, and Eddings shows one of the strongest Under biases of all MLB umpires.

Like in the stock market, in the sports betting market we are supposed to buy low and sell high. Said another way, we are supposed to bet on undervalued teams and bet against overvalued teams. One undervalued team through two games is these Cardinals.


Arizona has gotten blown out at home 24-6 by the Redskins and 34-0 in LA against the Rams. They catch the Bears at a good time, as Chicago just beat Seattle at home on Monday night. So, it's a short week and travel for the Bears, plus they could be a bit flat off that win over the Seahawks.


Yes, the Bears looked good in Week 1 against the Packers at Lambeau Field. But the Bears began planning for that game as soon as the schedule was announced, and they had a new look under first-year head coach Matt Nagy. And yes, the Bears did beat Seattle on Monday night. But that was at home against a Seahawks team with key injuries on both sides of the ball.


That Seattle win combined with the scores from the first two Arizona games could very well have the Bears taking this game a bit lightly. But the Cardinals should be plenty motivated after getting embarrassed twice to start the season.


Asking the Bears to basically win by a TD on the road (where they are 2-15 SU since the start of the 2016 season) just seems like a little too much to ask. I'm grabbing the points with the undervalued Cardinals at home.
