The Philadelphia Flyers' performance in their home opener is one they'd like to forget, and they'll receive that opportunity in a hurry as they visit the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday. Philadelphia was trounced 8-2 by San Jose on Tuesday and has dropped two straight since recording a season-opening victory in Vegas.

The lone bright spot for the Flyers in their season debut at Wells Fargo Center was their power play, which cashed in twice on six opportunities - but allowed a short-handed goal - after going 1-for-7 over the team's first two games. Ottawa is kicking off a five-game homestand after suffering a 6-3 setback at Boston on Monday. Ryan Dzingel scored a pair of goals against the Bruins while Brady Tkachuk, who was selected with the fourth overall pick in this year's draft, saw 14:33 of ice time in his NHL debut. Defenseman Thomas Chabot, who collected 25 points in 63 games for the Senators as a rookie last season, has gotten off to a fast start with two goals and three assists over the first three contests.

ABOUT THE FLYERS (1-2-0): Wayne Simmonds leads the team with three goals after scoring his second of the season on the power play in Tuesday's setback. The 30-year-old right wing reached double digits in man-advantage tallies in six of his first seven seasons with Philadelphia, including each of the last five. Captain Claude Giroux has notched four assists over his first three contests to tie Simmonds for the team lead in points.

ABOUT THE SENATORS (1-1-1): Dzingel was a game-time decision on Monday after missing some of the previous day's practice with an undisclosed injury, while Tkachuk - the son of former NHL power forward Keith Tkachuk - sat out Ottawa's first two contests with a lower-body ailment. The 26-year-old Dzingel is one of four Senators that have landed on the scoresheet in each of the first three games. Dylan DeMelo, who was acquired last month in the deal that sent fellow defenseman Erik Karlsson to San Jose, notched two assists against Boston to give him three points in as many contests.

OVERTIME

1. Flyers LW James van Riemsdyk (lower body) missed Tuesday's game and will be sidelined 5-to-6 weeks after being injured in Colorado on Saturday.

Marc-Andre Fleury has three Stanley Cup rings to his credit, but an inability to win a fourth in June has the normally mild-mannered goaltender seeking payback. Fleury aims to exact a bit of revenge and turn the tables on a slow start to the season on Wednesday as the Vegas Golden Knights play the third contest of their five-game road trip against the defending champion Washington Capitals.

"I'm looking forward to it. Of course they beat us last year. I think if we can give it back to them for one year, it would be nice," Fleury told reporters Monday after his save percentage dropped to .841 following Vegas' 4-2 setback to Buffalo at KeyBank Center. The 33-year-old followed up a career-best totals in goals-against average (2.24) and save percentage (.927) by yielding 20 goals of 136 shots (.853 save percentage) as the Golden Knights fell to the Capitals in five games last summer. Washington has had plenty of time to cool its jets after opening the season with a 7-0 romp of Boston last Wednesday before dropping a wild 7-6 overtime decision to rival Pittsburgh the following night. T.J. Oshie has started the season with a flourish by recording a goal and an assist in the opener before scoring 21 seconds apart in the third period to cap a three-point performance versus the Penguins.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (1-2-0): Vegas' offense isn't breaking the bank as the club has mustered just five goals in three games this season. Jonathan Marchessault doubled his point total by scoring and setting up a goal against the Sabres, and the 27-year-old looks to provide more offense after notching just three assists during the Stanley Cup Finals. Fellow center William Karlsson followed up a promising start to the Finals by being held off the scoresheet for the final three contests, and that drought has continued as the 25-year-old Swede has yet to score a goal after leading the team in both tallies (43) and points (78) last season.

ABOUT THE CAPITALS (1-0-1): Three-time Hart Trophy winner Alex Ovechkin tallied in both contests this season to increase his career total to 609 goals, one shy of "The Golden Jet" Bobby Hull for 17th in NHL history. Ovechkin wasn't shy against Vegas on the league's grand stage in June, collecting three goals and two assists en route to wrapping up Conn Smythe Trophy honors. Russian countryman Evgeny Kuznetsov erupted for eight points (one goal, seven assists) in the Stanley Cup Finals and picked up where he left off this season, scoring twice versus the Bruins before setting up a goal against the Penguins.

OVERTIME

1. Vegas is 0-for-8 with the man advantage this season after finishing with the 11th-ranked power play (21.4 percent) in 2017-18.

2. Washington, on the other hand, is a blistering 4-for-8 with the man advantage.

3. Golden Knights C Paul Stastny (undisclosed) is questionable to play on Wednesday, per coach Gerard Gallant.

The Arizona Coyotes have yet to score a goal to start the season and encounter a tall task in the form of John Gibson, who has the Anaheim Ducks off to their best start since their 2006-07 Stanley Cup campaign. Gibson, who made 41 saves in the Ducks' 1-0 win over Arizona this past weekend, will get another crack at the Coyotes on Wednesday when the Pacific Division rivals meet at Honda Center in Anaheim.

"He's been our MVP for the three games. You don't have a starting point in the NHL if you don't have goaltending," Anaheim coach Randy Carlyle told reporters after Gibson made 19 saves and denied all three attempts in the shootout of a 3-2 win against Detroit on Monday night. Jakob Silfverberg scored the tying goal midway into the third period to become the first Duck since 2014-15 to collect five points in his first three contests. Arizona has yet to dent the scoresheet and has been blanked in three straight games dating back to a 3-0 setback to Anaheim during last season's finale. "We haven't scored a goal yet and that's the elephant in the room, but once we break the seal we'll get things rolling here," Coyotes defenseman Kevin Connauton told the media.

ABOUT THE COYOTES (0-2-0): Brendan Perlini failed to record a shot against the Ducks on Saturday and has just two this season after finishing second on the club with 17 goals in 2017-18. "A guy like him has to shoot the puck," coach Rick Tocchet told reporters of the 22-year-old Perlini. "We've got to get him inside the dots. When he plays outside the dots, it's going to be a tough night. ... We need him to play good in Anaheim (on Wednesday). We really do. He's a young guy and his thing is consistency, and that's what we're looking for from him." Perlini totaled a goal and an assist in his first two encounters with the Ducks last season before being held in check in his last two.

ABOUT THE DUCKS (3-0-0): Rookie Max Comtois scored in his second straight game to open his NHL career as Anaheim edged Arizona on Saturday. Comtois is one of several young players - namely Troy Terry, Sam Steel and rookie Isac Lundestrom - being looked upon to help the injury-riddled Ducks, who are without captain Ryan Getzlaf, former Hart Trophy winner Corey Perry, Ryan Kesler and Patrick Eaves. "This is baptism by fire for young players," Carlyle told reporters. "We have our ample share of them in the lineup, but these are situations hopefully where they can grow and get more confidence. Hats off to them. ... They were in there and survived, so hopefully they feel good about themselves."

OVERTIME

1. Anaheim has thwarted all nine short-handed situations this season while Arizona is 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

Loves the track here at Delaware Park. PRINCESS AKRIS - A horse coming back this rapidly after a solid outing is a good sign. I took a look at this filly's finishes. She's almost always on the board. This race horse is in great demand coming off two claims in her last two starts. Don't overlook this filly in your speculating today. This filly is tops in earnings per start (EPS). Check out this animal in the saddling ring.

REINA PEPEADA - Dropping down in class rating points from her October 4th race at Presque Isle Downs. Based on that data, I will give this horse the advantage. Sprinters that come back to the races quickly are generally good plays. In my personal list of handicapping angles, this is a good one. Horse's last two speed figs are higher than today's class figure. That's a good sign we have a strong contender here. The 57 most recent race speed fig looks strong in the TrackMaster PPs.

KELLS - You figure that this horse is going to finish first just because she's always close. Just doesn't finish first often. This filly notched a speed fig in her last event which likely isn't good enough in today's race.
