New England Patriots vs. Buffalo Bills Preview and Predictions 10-29-2018 in NFL

NFL Previews 26th October 2018 by Gracenote
Patriots vs. Bills Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 10/26/2018

Letdown, anyone? That could be the biggest obstacle for the resurgent New England Patriots as they head to western New York on Monday night to play the reeling Buffalo Bills. The Patriots have dominated the rivalry against the Bills, who have scored the fewest points in football, are down to their third quarterback and could be without their best offensive player.

The Patriots have rebounded from a slow start to rip off four consecutive victories, moving to their accustomed spot at the top of the AFC East after winning slugfests over Kansas City and Chicago the past two weeks. "It's always tough with them up there," New England coach Bill Belichick said of playing in Buffalo. "We know that. I mean, we know it's going to be tough. We talked about it but talking about it is the easy part. It'll be dealing with it Monday night that will be the hard part." The Bills must find a way to solve future Hall of Famer Tom Brady, who owns a staggering 28-3 mark against the Bills -- the most by any quarterback against another opponent. Buffalo has been limited to 13 points or fewer in five of its seven games and could be without starting running back LeSean McCoy, who remained in the league's concussion protocol on Friday.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN. LINE: Patriots -14. O/U: 44

ABOUT THE PATRIOTS (5-2): Brady rebounded from a 133-yard effort in a loss at Detroit in Week 3 to guide New England to four wins in a row, posting a passer rating of 102-plus in each of the past three victories. Brady likely will be without rookie running back Sony Michel, who rushed for 316 yards and four touchdowns in a three-game span before suffering a knee injury in last week's 38-31 victory at Chicago (as a -1.5 point favorite at intertops). The return of Julian Edelman from suspension and addition of Josh Gordon has bolstered a passing game that hopes to have tight end Rob Gronkowski back after he sat out a week ago. New England ranks 25th overall in total defense (389.9 yards) and against the pass (275.9).

???????

ABOUT THE BILLS (2-5): Rookie quarterback Josh Allen is injured and Nathan Peterman has been benched, so Derek Anderson will hope for improvement against New England after a shaky season debut in which he threw for 175 yards and was intercepted three times. "They've got a good defense," said Anderson. "They've got a good scheme to try and take away guys and who they think are going to be our biggest threats and take away the things that we do well." Not only is McCoy's status up in the air, but backup running back Chris Ivory was limited in practice Thursday and Friday after hurting his hamstring on Wednesday. Buffalo's defense has exelled against the pass, allowing 210.1 yards per game.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Brady has 16 touchdowns and two interceptions in his last six games at Buffalo.

2. McCoy has at least 100 yards from scrimmage in five straight games against New England.

3. Gronkowski has 12 touchdowns in 13 games versus the Bills.

PREDICTION: Patriots 27, Bills 13

#1 CLASSIC DANIEL (ML=6/1)
#8 KING STORMY (ML=7/2)
#10 TIZWAYORTHEHIGHWAY (ML=8/1)

CLASSIC DANIEL - Gelding failed to win as the public choice in a $3,000 Claiming race last time out. Was a good performance even though he finished second. Have to make this gelding a strong challenger; he comes off a strong effort on October 9th. That 79 fig this gelding notched in his last event tells me he's a chief player this time around. KING STORMY - This campaigner coming off a nice contest in the last 30 days is a contender in my opinion. The return on investment when Clemente and Rivera team up is terrific. TIZWAYORTHEHIGHWAY - This front running sort is running a shorter distance today. Should increase his chances to win. Was in a $5,000 Claiming race at Belterra Park last time out. That race had a class rating of 78 and he is moving down today. A certain solid contender.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 CAPTIVATED (ML=3/1), #7 CANTANKEROUS BOBBY (ML=4/1),

CAPTIVATED - In the last event this less than sharp equine finished eighth. Doesn't bode well for his chances this time. In any race of 5 1/2 furlongs, I like to bet on a contender that has been sharp in short distance events lately. CANTANKEROUS BOBBY - This steed ran a somewhat easily forgotten speed figure last time around the track. He shouldn't improve and will probably lose in today's race running that number.

# 1 HABIBI 8/1

# 5 SONG OF JOY 8/5

# 9 GRAND BLUE HARBOR 4/1

HABIBI is tough to overlook as the wager in here particularly if the morning line of 8/1 holds. Has a strong shot in this race if you like back class. SONG OF JOY - She looks formidable in this spot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the halfway point. With better than average trips to the winner's circle, Salgado will most likely have this filly in excellent position to win the outing. GRAND BLUE HARBOR - She looks very strong in this spot and I expect will be on the front end or close at the halfway point. Formidable rider and conditioner combo winning 16 percent of their races working together.

#6 A P PHANTOM (ML=4/1)

A P PHANTOM - Looking at today's Equibase class figure, this horse is up against an easier group than last time around the track at Ferndale. This one could be a potential overlay today at morning odds of 4/1. Finished fifth in last race at Ferndale but was close at the wire. This gelding's last rating is high enough to win here, I'll play him back again today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 SOLAR FLAIR (ML=2/1), #5 INTERMIX (IRE) (ML=5/2), #2 THREE PADRES (ML=3/1),

SOLAR FLAIR - Not probable that this animal will finish better than he did last time out when placing sixth. INTERMIX (IRE) - Should be difficult for this thoroughbred to beat this field off of that last speed rating. Doubtful to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class figure, so put him on the questionable contenders list. THREE PADRES - This horse doesn't have a winning mental state. Habitually finishes in the place or show hole. Showed very little in the last event. Really don't see any hint of improvement today. Garnered a run-of-the-mill speed fig last time out in a $5,000 Claiming race on September 8th. Not likely to see an improved performance off of that figure.

# 1 KATHY'S DAY RATE 5/2

# 9 CONGORED B R 15/1

# 7 PASZ THE PEPPER 3/1

I think KATHY'S DAY RATE is a strong choice. Had one of the best speed figures of this group of animals in her last race. Has to be considered versus this group displaying solid figures recently and an average speed rating of 54 under similar conditions. CONGORED B R - Could beat this group given the 56 Equibase Speed Figure posted in her last outing. Win percentage under similar conditions may be the key for this filly. PASZ THE PEPPER - Has been racing solidly and has among the top speed in the race for today's distance. Win percentage one of the best in this field.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Indiana Pacers Preview and Predictions 10-29-2018 in NBA

NBA Previews 28th October 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 10/28/2018

The Indiana Pacers found a higher gear on the last two legs of their road trip and head home with some momentum. The Pacers will try to keep the offense flowing and post a third straight win when they make a one-game stop at home to host the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday.

Indiana, which heads back out for visits to New York and Chicago this week, fell at Minnesota last Monday but shot 52.9 percent from the floor in a 116-96 triumph at San Antonio on Wednesday and exploded at Cleveland on Saturday, shooting 64.9 percent from the floor in a 119-107 win. "We definitely moved the ball at a high level," Pacers star guard Victor Oladipo told reporters. "A lot of guys touched it, a lot of guys (scored) in double figures (Saturday), so that's huge." The Trail Blazers split the first two stops on their four-game trip and are coming off a 120-111 loss at Miami. "I thought (Miami) made some timely shots," Portland coach Terry Stotts told reporters. "We gave up a key rebound on a free throw, that hurt us. But they made some big plays in the last three minutes. The timely shooting made the difference."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCS Northwest (Portland), FS Indiana

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (3-2): Portland star Damian Lillard totaled 83 points in the first two games of the road trip and is averaging 33.8 in the early going. The Trail Blazers trailed by 19 in the third quarter at Miami but came all the way back to take the lead before running out of gas in the setback, and Lillard's 42 points on 15-of-28 shooting sparked the comeback. "Sometimes when the team is struggling -- we weren't making shots, we weren't getting a ton of stops -- sometimes you've got to take it upon yourself to light a fire, be a spark that the team needs. I tried to do that," Lillard told reporters.

ABOUT THE PACERS (4-2): Indiana's starting five combined to shoot 67.2 percent from the floor on Saturday and point guard Darren Collison enjoyed his best game with a season-high 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Collison was held to a total of 10 points on 3-of-13 shooting in the previous two contests. "I was able to get a rhythm," Collison told reporters. "You look at some of our games, either we blew them out or we got blown out in the first five games. I wasn't able to find a rhythm. I felt like this game, I knew it was going to be a little bit close because we're missing (guard) Tyreke (Evans) a little bit and I was going to find my rhythm."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Evans (personal) sat out Saturday but is expected to return on Monday.

2. Trail Blazers C Jusuf Nurkic scored a season-low five points on 2-of-7 shooting Saturday - the first time he failed to reach double figures in 2018-19.

3. Portland took both meetings last season, including a 114-96 win at Indiana.

PREDICTION: Pacers 125, Trail Blazers 122

Atlanta Hawks vs. Philadelphia 76ers Preview and Predictions 10-29-2018 in NBA

Hawks vs. 76ers Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 10/28/2018

Joel Embiid has been outstanding so far for the Philadelphia 76ers, who enter Monday's home contest against the Atlanta Hawks looking for back-to-back victories after ending a two-game losing skid with Saturday's victory over Charlotte. Embiid's streak of 30-point, 10-rebound efforts ended at four games following the 105-103 victory over the Hornets, but the center pulled down 14 rebounds to go with 27 points despite a left-ankle injury suffered in practice Friday.

Embiid received plenty of help as the Sixers displayed the depth that makes Philadelphia an Eastern Conference contender, getting double-doubles from Ben Simmons and Robert Covington to improve to 3-0 at home. "Covington's best game of the year," Philadelphia coach Brett Brown told reporters after the forward scored 18 points with 10 rebounds, hit a late 3-pointer and hounded Charlotte's Kemba Walker all night. The Hawks, projected by many to be one of the worst teams in the NBA, saw their two-game winning streak end with Saturday's 97-85 defeat to Chicago, a game in which the trio of Trae Young, Taurean Prince and Kent Bazemore combined to shoot 11-of-35 from the field and commit 15 turnovers. "It was a lesson in how you handle success," Atlanta coach Lloyd Pierce told the media afterward.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Southeast (Atlanta), NBCS Philadelphia

ABOUT THE HAWKS (2-3): Young, the fifth overall pick in this summer's draft, is averaging 19.8 points and 6.8 assists through five games, but recorded season lows in both categories (13 points, four assists) Saturday. Backup center Dewayne Dedmon shined in his second game of the season, scoring 13 points with 13 rebounds and five blocked shots off the bench. Atlanta ranks 25th in the league in free-throw percentage (72.4 percent).

ABOUT THE 76ERS (3-3): Embiid opened the season with six consecutive double-doubles, averaging 29.2 points and 12.7 rebounds on 48 percent shooting from the field. Philadelphia played much better defense after giving up 123.7 points per game in its previous three contests, holding Charlotte to 38.9 percent shooting from the field overall and just 18 fourth-quarter points. Guard J.J. Reddick is shooting 45.4 percent from 3-point range in his past four games.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Atlanta F DeAndre Bembry is 7-of-13 from 3-point range through five games, finishing 2-of-5 Saturday.

2. The 76ers entered Sunday eighth in the NBA in turnovers per game (12.8), while the Hawks rank last out of 30 teams (18.4).

3. The Hawks play seven of their next 11 on the road starting Monday.

PREDICTION: 76ers 121, Hawks 106

Sacramento Kings vs. Miami Heat Preview and Predictions 10-29-2018 in NBA

NBA Previews 28th October 2018 by Gracenote
Kings vs. Heat Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 10/28/2018

The Sacramento Kings are surprisingly scrappy in the early going and might be coming together quicker than anticipated. The young, rebuilding club will try to make it three consecutive wins when the Kings open a four-game road trip by visiting the Miami Heat on Monday.

The Kings own one of the youngest rosters in the NBA and are trying to turn all of that talent into a team that can compete for a playoff spot in the near future, and second-year guard De'Aaron Fox is stepping up into a leadership role. "I think right now, everybody kind of looks at me," Fox, who is averaging a team-high 17.7 points, told the Sacramento Bee. "(In crunch time), coach wants the ball in my hands, even if I'm not shooting the ball, just create for somebody else. I've embraced it and guys have embraced it for me to be a playmaker. They trust me, so I've got to go out there and trust myself." The Heat will try to stop Fox and company with a defense that held the Portland Trail Blazers to 42 percent shooting in a 120-111 victory on Saturday. "Guys really stepped up tonight," Miami coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters after the win. "Even giving up 111 points, it sounds funny, but our defensive efforts and commitment on that side of the floor against two really dynamic playmakers, I thought was very good."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCS California (Sacramento), FS Sun (Miami)

ABOUT THE KINGS (3-3): The average age of Sacramento's roster is just over 25, making 30-year-old forward Nemanja Bjelica one of the team's elder statesmen. Bjelica, who never averaged more than 6.8 points in three seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves and was set to return to Europe over the summer before signing a three-year deal with Sacramento, started each of the first six games and turned in his best effort on Friday with 26 points and 12 rebounds in a 116-112 win over the Washington Wizards. "All my life, all my career I was underrated," Bjelica told reporters. "But I don't have a problem with that. I just love the game of basketball and I worked really hard to be here today."

ABOUT THE HEAT (3-2): Miami center Hassan Whiteside is averaging 11.8 points and 14.6 rebounds and is finding ways to impact games when he struggles on the offensive end. Whiteside was held to five points on 2-of-8 shooting on Saturday but blocked six shots and grabbed 16 rebounds. "He even mentioned it to me right before I walked in here (for the postgame interview)," Spoelstra told reporters of Whiteside. "He mentioned that he was just trying to do whatever he could to put his fingerprints on this win. And down the stretch, that was a couple big contests to force some misses and a couple big rebounds. And even the offensive rebound. That's winning basketball."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Miami PF Kelly Olynyk is shooting 54.5 percent from the floor and scored a season-high 19 points on Saturday.

2. Kings C Willie Cauley-Stein recorded a double-double in each of the last two games.

3. Sacramento took both meetings last season by a total of five points - one in overtime.

PREDICTION: Heat 109, Kings 107

Brooklyn Nets vs. New York Knicks Preview and Predictions 10-29-2018 in NBA

NBA Previews 28th October 2018 by Gracenote
Nets vs. Knicks Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 10/28/2018

The New York Knicks' five-game losing streak began with a loss to crosstown rival Brooklyn earlier this month. They will try to snap that string in a rematch when the Nets visit Madison Square Garden for the first time this season Monday night.

Both teams suffered losses to the Golden State Warriors over the weekend, with the Knicks stepping up first with a 128-100 loss to the defending champion Warriors on Friday to open a three-game homestand. "I saw our young guys. I just saw that look of, alright, we've done enough tonight. We played hard enough," New York coach David Fizdale told reporters after his team was outscored 47-16 in the fourth quarter. "I just got to get these guys to understand how to play 48 minutes. Right now we're playing college ball." The Nets had a much better fourth quarter against Golden State but they were outplayed in the first three en route to a 120-114 loss Sunday. D'Angelo Russell had 25 points, six rebounds and six assists in the defeat.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, YES (Brooklyn), MSG (New York)

ABOUT THE NETS (2-4): Russell was 5-for-8 from 3-point range and Caris LeVert finished 4-for-7 as Brooklyn buried 20 3-pointers Sunday, seven in the fourth quarter. "The way the first half went we easily could have kind of folded and that's not what kind of guys we have in that locker room," coach Kenny Atkinson told reporters. "They're a resilient bunch and I thought they competed their tails off and it was good for the fans to see that we didn't just succumb to their talent or their aura so to speak." Russell is averaging 24.5 points while making 11-of-17 from 3-point range in the last two games.

ABOUT THE KNICKS (1-5): Friday's loss came after Fizdale shuffled the starting lineup, moving veteran big man Enes Kanter to the bench. "He wants me to lead the second unit," Kanter, who started all of his 71 games last season and the first five in 2018-19, told the media. "That's what I'm going to do, go out there and lead the second unit. Just keep leading them." Kanter had 13 rebounds in 20 minutes against Golden State and is averaging 11.2 on the season.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Knicks SG Tim Hardaway Jr. has scored at least 24 points in five of the first six games.

2. LeVert is averaging 21.3 points while shooting 51.6 percent from the floor.

3. New York swept four meetings last season.

Lakers vs. Timberwolves Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 10/28/2018

The Minnesota Timberwolves are trying to downplay the distraction caused by Jimmy Butler's trade demand but are having a hard time coming together on the court. The Timberwolves will try to bounce back from a terrible effort and avoid a third straight setback when they host LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday.

Minnesota was crushed 125-95 by the Milwaukee Bucks at home on Friday as Butler struggled to four points on 2-of-11 shooting in 24 minutes. "You know, distractions happen all the time in every industry," Timberwolves coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters after the loss. "So, when you lose focus you're not going to perform up to your potential. ... We have to guard against that. I think human nature says you have to guard against it if you study how this league works." James is trying to teach his new teammates how to play like champions and was encouraged despite another tight loss after a 110-106 setback in San Antonio on Saturday. "You use these experiences for the better," James told reporters. "I think we played very, very well tonight, besides that four-, five-minute point in the third quarter. We just offensively stalled and defensively weren't in tune. Other than that, we played some really good basketball all the way down to the last possession."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBATV, Spectrum SportsNet (Los Angeles), FS North (Minnesota)

ABOUT THE LAKERS (2-4): James is making some personal history with his new team and passed Shaquille O'Neal for the sixth-most made field goals (11,339) while passing Dirk Nowitzki and moving into sixth place (31,202) on the NBA career scoring list on Saturday. "Dirk has always been one of my favorite players, and I think Shaq is the most dominant player to ever play this game," James told reporters. "For me to be in the same conversation with those guys, in anything we're talking about as far as basketball, it's a tribute as far as just being humble and knowing where I come from." James is averaging 27.3 points, nine rebounds and 8.3 assists early in his first season with Los Angeles.

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (2-4): Butler is trying to be a solid teammate on the court for as long as he remains in Minnesota and was not happy with his performance at either end of the floor on Friday. "We let our offense dictate what our defense was going to do," Butler told reporters. "Speaking for myself, I can never let that happen. My entire career has always been my defense dictates my offense. So, bad one." Butler is averaging 20.6 points on 47.9 percent shooting despite the poor effort against the Bucks and leads the NBA at an average of 3.4 steals.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Timberwolves SF Andrew Wiggins (quad) missed the last two games and is questionable for Monday.

2. Los Angeles SF Brandon Ingram is eligible to return on Monday after serving a four-game suspension for fighting.

3. Minnesota took all four meetings last season.

PREDICTION: Lakers 122, Timberwolves 115

Warriors vs. Bulls Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 10/28/2018

The Chicago Bulls rebounded from an embarrassing effort with their best defensive performance of the season last time out and will need more of the same when the two-time defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors visit Monday night. The Bulls surrendered 135 points in a loss at Charlotte Friday, but forced 22 turnovers and registered a season-best 14 steals in the 97-85 win at Atlanta one day later.

"We clamped down," Chicago forward Jabari Parker told the Chicago Tribune. "We had a really good scout (report). We were prepared. We asked a lot of questions, especially from my end. So we were ready going in." The Bulls have lost five of the last six against Golden State, including a 119-112 decision last season, and the Warriors come in after averaging 128.8 points during a four-game winning streak that included a 120-114 triumph at Brooklyn on Sunday. Stephen Curry continued his scorching start to the season with 35 points in Golden State's latest victory and has scored at least 29 in all seven contests. Curry made seven 3-pointers Sunday - pushing his total to 46 on the season - and has at least five in seven consecutive games, breaking the NBA record of six straight with five that was set by George McCloud during the 1995-96 season.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBCS Bay Area (Golden State), WGN (Chicago)

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (6-1): Kevin Durant has also gotten off to a strong start alongside Curry and has been especially hot the last three games while averaging 35 points and shooting 66.1 percent from the field. Golden State has won six of seven despite Klay Thompson's shooting slump as the normally lethal guard is just 5-for-36 from 3-point range and shooting 39.7 percent from the field overall after scoring 18 on Sunday. Versatile forward Draymond Green was held to eight points in the triumph at Brooklyn, but finished with season highs in assists (13) and steals (five).

ABOUT THE BULLS (2-4): Guard Zach LaVine is averaging a team-high 29.3 points and has led Chicago in scoring each game, including 27 to go along with 11 rebounds in Saturday's victory. Rookie forward Wendell Carter Jr. posted his first career double-double Saturday with 10 points and 10 rebounds in 22 minutes of work while guard Ryan Arcidiacono scored a career-high 13 points, dished out seven assists and had two steals in the win. "I know I'm not a proven player in this league," Arcidiacono told reporters. "But I know I can shoot it. So I'm going to shoot it with confidence."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Golden State G Shaun Livingston (foot) missed Sunday's contest and is questionable for the matchup with the Bulls.

2. Chicago F Chandler Hutchison got his first two NBA starts over the weekend with F Bobby Portis (knee) out, grabbing 11 rebounds in 46 minutes.

3. Warriors F Alfonzo McKinnie, a Chicago native, is 11-for-16 from the field during the four-game winning streak.

PREDICTION: Warriors 118, Bulls 104

Raptors vs. Bucks Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 10/28/2018

The Toronto Raptors and the Milwaukee Bucks are the last two remaining unbeaten teams in the NBA, but only one will stay that way after Monday. The Bucks host the Raptors on Monday in a showdown of the top two teams in the Eastern Conference.

Toronto was expected to be near the top of the East, but Milwaukee is more of a surprise, and the Bucks are trying to downplay the significance of the matchup. "You can fall into that trap (of putting too much importance on one game)," Milwaukee swingman Khris Middleton told reporters. "It's a big game, definitely. ... It could be a statement win, but at the same time, it's still one game early in the season. Teams are still trying to find themselves. We're still trying to learn ourselves too. But it's been a great start to the season - 6-0 so far, 7-0 would be great." Toronto's 6-0 start marks a franchise best, and the team is having a lot of fun. "Well, winning's fun, right?" first-year coach Nick Nurse told reporters. "That helps. But I also think that this is basketball and we don't have to be miserable every day going to work. We all understand we've got unbelievable owners, organization, fans, players. We've got a little history of winning right now going. You better enjoy that. You better make that some fun."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, Sportsnet (Toronto), FS Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (6-0): Toronto is building solid chemistry between the long-tenured players like Kyle Lowry and Jonas Valanciunas and newcomers Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green, who came over from the San Antonio Spurs in the trade that sent All-Star guard DeMar DeRozan away. Leonard is averaging a team-high 26.6 points and eight rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the floor and Green is firing away at 45 percent from 3-point range. Lowry is averaging 10.3 assists and shooting 57.5 percent from the floor, including 52.8 percent from 3-point range, for a Raptors offense that ranks second in the East in team field-goal percentage (49.5).

ABOUT THE BUCKS (6-0): Milwaukee superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging 25 points, 14.2 rebounds and 5.7 assists but was limited to 19 minutes in a 113-91 win over the Orlando Magic on Saturday. Antetokounmpo took an elbow to the head in the first quarter and cleared concussion tests but sat out the entire third quarter while being checked out by team trainers. "I think we just wanted to be extra cautious," Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer told reporters. "Make sure everything was OK and kind of give him an extra look. Everything is good."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Toronto PG Fred VanVleet (toe) sat out the last two games and is questionable for Monday.

2. Middleton is averaging 21.8 points while shooting 57.1 percent from 3-point range.

3. The Raptors took two of the three meetings last season, but Milwaukee earned a 122-119 overtime victory at Toronto on Feb. 23 behind 26 points from Antetokounmpo.

PREDICTION: Raptors 116, Bucks 113

Mavericks vs. Spurs Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 10/28/2018

The San Antonio Spurs aim to earn consecutive wins for the first time this season when they host the Dallas Mavericks on Monday. DeMar DeRozan continued his solid start with the Spurs by posting 30 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in Saturday's 110-106 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, which gave San Antonio a nice recovery from a 20-point loss to Indiana at home three days earlier.

"It's our fifth game of the season," DeRozan told reporters Saturday. "You've got to kind of enjoy it, because this is the beginning stages. We're going to keep building and keep getting better and better. It gives you a lot of faith." DeRozan is averaging 27.2 points, 7.8 assists - well above his career average of 3.1 - and six rebounds in his first five games with San Antonio. The four-time All-Star shot just 28.2 percent in two matchups last season with the Mavericks, who fell 113-104 to Utah at home Sunday night. Dennis Smith Jr. returned from a one-game absence due to an ankle injury to score 27 points on 12-of-19 shooting for Dallas, which has shot under 42 percent from the field in three straight games.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, FS Southwest (Dallas, San Antonio)

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS (2-4): Veteran forward Harrison Barnes, the team's leading scorer last season, was limited to seven points in 34 minutes in Sunday's loss and is 8-for-30 from the floor in two games since returning from a hamstring injury. DeAndre Jordan finished with 12 points and 19 rebounds versus the Jazz for his sixth straight double-double to begin the season. The veteran center also had a career-high nine assists in the defeat.

ABOUT THE SPURS (3-2): San Antonio has allowed an average of 118.6 points on the season but a handful of defensive stands late in the game against Los Angeles was a nice departure from the norm. "That sort of thing is what we are used to," coach Gregg Popovich told the media after his team held the Lakers to 18 fourth-quarter points. "That's really the first time this year that we've done that. If that will become a habit, we will have a good opportunity to win a lot of games." Both Rudy Gay and Pau Gasol had double-doubles off the bench.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Gay is averaging eight rebounds - more than two over his career mark - while making 6-of-10 from 3-point range through the first five games.

2. Smith hit 3-of-4 from behind the 3-point arc against the Jazz after making 4-of-18 through his first four games.

3. Spurs F LaMarcus Aldridge averaged 27.5 points and 10.5 rebounds to lead his team to three wins in four meetings with the Mavericks last season.

PREDICTION: Spurs 112, Mavericks 103

Pelicans vs. Nuggets Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 10/28/2018

After four straight wins to open the season with their superstar doing plenty of heavy lifting, the New Orleans Pelicans tasted defeat for the first time without him. The Pelicans open a five-game road trip with Anthony Davis's status in question when they visit the Denver Nuggets on Monday.

Davis averaged 27.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, a league-leading 3.8 blocks and 2.5 steals during New Orleans' 4-0 start but he was absent for Saturday's 132-111 loss to Utah at home due to an elbow sprain. "There's not any long-term concern," Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry told reporters of Davis. "He came in today and tried to shoot at shoot-around, and there was a still a little bit of pain. ... I'm not going to risk anything over one game." The Nuggets also opened 4-0 before suffering a 128-111 loss at the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday. They made just 6-of-23 3-pointers -- 3-of-17 by the starters -- and entered Sunday's action ranked 29th in the league at 29.2 percent from long range.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, FS New Orleans, Altitude (Denver)

ABOUT THE PELICANS (4-1): Nikola Mirotic (25 points, eight rebounds) and Jrue Holiday (18 points) did their best to carry the scoring load without Davis, but the five-time All-Star was severely missed on the other end of the floor. It didn't help when another starter -- guard Elfrid Payton -- left the contest with a sprained ankle that has his status in doubt. Reserve big man Jahlil Okafor made his first real impact of the season with 11 points and six rebounds in just 14 minutes.

ABOUT THE NUGGETS (4-1): Center Nikola Jokic continued his strong start with 24 points and 11 rebounds against the Lakers while guard Jamal Murray chipped in 22 points and a season-high 10 boards, but the team is still waiting for a little more from veteran forward Paul Millsap. "I feel like I'm just rushing everything. Everything's rushed," Millsap -- who is shooting 37.2 percent while making 1-of-8 3-pointers -- told the Denver Post. "That's normally not how I play basketball. I don't rush anything in life. For me to get out there on a basketball court and rush things, it's a little unprecedented." Guard Monte Morris provided a boost in the loss to the Lakers with a career-high 20 points off the bench.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Mirotic is averaging 23.8 points and 9.4 rebounds.

2. Jokic has recorded four straight double-doubles.

3. The Nuggets won both meetings at home last season, including a 146-114 victory in which Murray scored 31 points on 13-of-18 shooting.

PREDICTION: Nuggets 120, Pelicans 113

Calgary Flames vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Preview and Predictions 10-29-2018 in NHL

NHL Previews 28th October 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 10/28/2018

Auston Matthews has played a pronounced role in the Toronto Maple Leafs' sizzling start to the season, but coach Mike Babcock's charges will be without the star forward on Monday when they host the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Arena. The 21-year-old Matthews, who leads the Maple Leafs in goals (10) and points (16), has been ruled out for the tilt after sustaining a left shoulder injury in Saturday's 3-2 victory over Winnipeg.

"It's tough. (Matthews is) a big part of this team, everyone knows that. Hopefully we get him back soon," forward Mitch Marner told reporters Saturday after helping Toronto snap a two-game home losing skid by setting up a pair of goals to reach 100 assists in his career. Fellow forwards Kasperi Kapanen and Nazem Kadri have scored in back-to-back games for Toronto, which has won seven of the last nine overall to boast an NHL high-tying 16 points. Calgary put forth a better performance following Thursday's 9-1 shellacking by Pittsburgh but sustained its third straight loss two nights later with a 4-3 shootout decision against Washington. "It couldn't get much worse than last game, but the way we bounced back - a tough start to the game, down 2-0, but great resiliency to score two and tie it up," alternate captain Matthew Tkachuk told reporters. "... It (stinks) anytime you lose. This one will sting for the night, but the way our games are scheduled, you have to have a (short) memory."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NHL Network, Sportsnet, TVA

ABOUT THE FLAMES (5-5-1): Johnny Gaudreau recorded his second multi-point performance in four outings and fourth this season with a pair of assists against the Capitals. The 25-year-old, however, was held off the scoresheet in both encounters versus the Maple Leafs last season, with Calgary mustering just two goals total en route to losing both contests. Captain Mark Giordano, who netted one of those tallies in a 2-1 shootout loss on Dec. 6, also had two assists in the setback versus Washington.

ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (8-3-0): Kadri centered the top line of Patrick Marleau and Marner at practice on Sunday while Kapanen was shuffled to join John Tavares and Zach Hyman on the second line while also replacing Matthews on the top power-play unit. "You're not going to replace a player like (Matthews) and his caliber. The way he's started this year and the impact he's made, he's one of the best in the league," Tavares said, per TSN. "But we've got a (heck) of a group in here talent-wise and skill-wise with work ethic and determination, so it's a chance for guys to step up and fill that opportunity as a group." Tavares, who set up a goal on Saturday, had a pair of assists while playing with the New York Islanders in a 5-2 win at Calgary on March 11.

OVERTIME

1. Toronto G Frederik Andersen owns a sparkling 7-0-1 mark with one shutout in 10 career encounters against Calgary.

2. Flames F Elias Lindholm, who leads the team with seven goals, tallied twice in three meetings with the Maple Leafs last season.

3. Toronto carries the NHL's second-ranked power play (32.1 percent) into Monday's tilt against Calgary, which has the league's fifth-worst penalty kill (71.8).

PREDICTION: Maple Leafs 4, Flames 2

Wild vs. Canucks Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 10/28/2018

Mikael Granlund and the Minnesota Wild hope their respective success travels well as they begin a pronounced seven-game road trip versus the Vancouver Canucks on Monday. Granlund answered a slow start with five goals and four assists during his seven-game point streak, with his goal total leading the team while his point total (nine) is two shy of fellow forward Zach Parise for top honors.

Granlund scored a goal and set up Eric Staal's go-ahead tally midway into the third period on Saturday as Minnesota skated to its fifth straight victory with a 3-2 triumph over Colorado. Staal also had a goal and an assist in the win for the Wild, who will take on Washington on Nov. 13 in their next home game before hosting Vancouver two nights later. The Canucks dropped their second straight lopsided decision with Saturday's 5-0 setback to Pittsburgh and have lost four of six overall to take the joy out of their fast start to the season. Jacob Markstrom turned aside 30 shots in that contest and presumably will see his workload increase after fellow goaltender Anders Nilsson sustained a fractured finger during the pre-game skate.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, FS North Plus (Minnesota), Sportsnet (Vancouver)

ABOUT THE WILD (6-2-2): Devan Dubnyk has been on a roll, turning aside 117 of 122 shots to win his last four outings and improve to 5-1-2 with a 1.96 goals-against average and .945 save percentage this season. The 32-year-old only yielded six goals on 82 shots versus Vancouver last season, but skated away with losses in two of the three encounters. Staal collected a goal and an assist and Granlund set up two tallies against the Canucks last season.

ABOUT THE CANUCKS (6-6-0): Fellow goaltender Richard Bachman was recalled from Utica of the American Hockey League with Nilsson expected to miss two-to-three weeks, according to coach Travis Green. "Nilly took a shot in the morning and it didn't feel right. He has a fractured finger, so Bachman will be up for a bit," said Green, who also noted that defenseman Chris Tanev remains day-to-day with a hip injury. The news was not as promising for blue-liner Alex Edler, who has a sprained MCL and is sidelined three-to-six weeks, per Green.

OVERTIME

1. Minnesota LW Jason Zucker registered his eighth point in as many games with an assist against the Avalanche.

2. Staal resides two goals shy of 400 for his career.

3. Vancouver LW Darren Archibald, who scored a goal in his lone game this season, was reassigned to the Comets on Sunday while Minnesota recalled F Jordan Greenway from Iowa.

PREDICTION: Wild 3, Canucks 2

Game of the Night - Toronto at Milwaukee, Fox Sports Wisconsin, 8:05 ET

The NBA’s only remaining undefeated teams meet in Milwaukee’s new Fiserv Forum, which has definitely emerged on the to-do list.

I got to see most NBA arenas in my past life -- wish I hadn’t missed Seattle and Vancouver – so a good gym is really appreciated around these parts. It appears that they’ve put together quite the building in downtown Milwaukee. The lower bowl packs 10,000 and is sure to provide a great atmosphere when the Bucks command it on the floor. Fortunately for Milwaukee, that’s going to be often.

Before October even ends, we can already say with certainty that the Eastern Conference has a fourth top contender. Favored Boston, Toronto and Philadelphia rolled off everyone’s tongue as the most likely to ascend to the throne vacated by the Cavaliers when LeBron James left town again, but the Bucks have quickly taken the wait-and-see stance most took regarding their fortunes and shoved that in the nearest closet.

The Bucks are still 14-to-1 to win the East at the Westgate Superbook behind the Celtics (4/5), Raptors (2/1) and 76ers (5/1), so that’s emerging as a fantastic value bet while it lasts. Milwaukee opened at 25-to-1, lumped in there with the Wizards as teams that could make the leap if everything broke right. While the Wizards have gotten off to a rough start without Dwight Howard to help shore things up in the paint, the Bucks look to move to 7-0 and ensure everyone knows that the secret is out by winning Monday’s battle of unbeatens.

New head coach Mike Budenholzer has quickly put his imprint on things with an increased tempo and smart rotations that click and play to the strengths of the guys on the floor. The Bucks lead the East in scoring (119.3) and play at the third-fastest pace in the conference behind the Hawks and Wizards. Despite this, Milwaukee ranks second in the entire league in defensive efficiency (95.4) and is tops in rebound rate (55.6).

The Bucks have beaten their last five opponents by double-digits, which includes a 17-point win over the Pacers team most expect will emerge as their primary competition in the Central. They’ve beaten the 76ers by 15 and the Timberwolves by 30, winning games so decisively that Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging only 30.7 minutes per game. It was a surprise when he came back into Saturday night’s 113-91 rout of Orlando in the fourth with the game already decided and seemingly was doing so just to stretch his legs and get some reps since it’s so early in the season.

Antetokounmpo missed the start of the second half after catching an Aaron Gordon elbow that he said “probably knocked (him) out.” Concussion tests revealed no issue, but his availability for this one should be monitored. Since he played some in the fourth, the presumption is he should participate.

Among the players surrounding him, Khris Middleton (21.8 ppg) looks like a lock to reach his first All-Star game and Eric Bledsoe is growing increasingly comfortable with his duties at the point, defending and running the floor with the athleticism few can match. Brook Lopez and Ersan Ilyasova have helped spread the floor, former Rookie of the Year Malcolm Brogdon is the perfect glue guy and this year’s rookie Donte DiVincenzo is the same winner he was at Villanova and adds to the quality pieces.

Versatility is a strength for Milwaukee, which has a number of guys it can throw at Kawhi Leonard in an effort to slow down his fantastic start. He’s shooting 50 percent from the field, has shot 10-for-22 from 3-point range and is averaging 26.6 points and 8.0 boards per game. Because he sat at Washington on the second night of a back-to-back, this will be his first road game of the season.

Everyone wants to see him match up with Antetokounmpo, so definitely tune in for that since it’s somewhat of a rarity. The two haven’t been on the court together since Jan. 10, 2017, when Greek Freak was limited to nine minutes due to illness but the Bucks still won 109-107 behind Michael Beasley and a last-minute comeback, overcoming Leonard’s 30 points. Leonard scored 21 in his last game in Milwaukee, a 97-96 Spurs win, so if those games are any indication, this one might be tight.

Kyle Lowry is averaging 19.8 games for the Raps and shooting nearly 58 percent for a team blessed with quality depth as its biggest strength. For that to translate to tonight’s showdown, forward OG Anunoby (personal), Delon Wright (groin) and Fred VanVleet (toe) must participate. According to Sportsnet Canada’s Michael Grange, Anunoby and Wright expect to play while VanVleet is day-to-day.

The Bucks are 4-2 ATS, while Toronto is 3-3. Five of the Raptors' six games have surpassed the posted total, while Milwaukee has seen the 'over' hit in four of six.

Game of the Night II- New Orleans at Denver, Atltitude, 9:05 ET

Leading your division through five games is somewhat trivial, but for two teams looking to climb into the Western Conference’s top-four, its progress.

The Pelicans and Nuggets have each won four of their first five and lead the Southwest and Northwest, respectively. Denver enjoyed a perfect 4-0 start straight up and against the spread before suffering a 121-114 loss at the Lakers on Thursday night, so it should be well-rested for this date with the Pels, who also come off their first defeat.

With Anthony Davis ruled out due to an elbow injury, Utah crushed New Orleans at the Smoothie King Center, winning 132-111 in a game it led by as much as 28 points. Davis tried to play through the elbow sprain against the Nets and shot just . Because he felt pain at shootaround prior to the Jazz game, he was held out, but could play tonight and should certainly be back in the lineup at some point this week.

The Pels will be without point guard Elfrid Payton, who left with a sprained ankle in Saturday’s third quarter. They’ll also likely be missing shooter Darius Miller (quad) and list Julius Randle as probable due to plantar fasciitis, so count on him filling Davis’ shoes in the starting lineup next to Nikola Mirotic if the All-Star can’t go.

Denver center Nikola Jokic is averaging 23.4 points, 10.6 rebounds and 6.2 assists through the first five games but had a six-turnover night against the Lakers and has made just two of his last eight 3-pointers after opening the season 4-for-7. The Nuggets will be without emotional leader Will Barton, a versatile, talented wing, for the foreseeable future due to a hip injury. Torrey Craig has taken his spot in the lineup.

Denver has won four of its last five meetings with the Pelicans, including a 117-111 OT win in the most recent contest last December 15.

The card

Atlanta at Philadelphia, 7:05 p.m. ET: The Hawks lost at home to Chicago but have started faster than expected by playing as fast as they intended to, leading the NBA in pace (109.8 possessions per game).

Philadelphia is just 1-5 ATS but even though Joel Embiid struggled in the second half of his first back-to-back of the season, shooting 9-for-24 in Wednesday's loss in Milwaukee, he looked no worse for the wear on Saturday night in finishing with 27 points and 14 boards in a two-point win over Charlotte.

Portland at Indiana, 7:05 p.m. ET: The Trail Blazers continue a four-game road trip after splitting in Florida and continue to get brilliance from Damian Lillard, who has scored over 40 in consecutive games, shooting nearly 55 percent and 10-for-21 from 3-point range.

Nate McMillan is just 1-3 against Portland, his former employer, since ascending to the head chair with the Pacers, but gets suspended wing Tyreke Evans back from suspension after he dropped the hammer to prove a point that no one is above the law after Evans showed up late to shootaround.

Sacramento at Miami, 7:35 p.m. ET: Second-year point guard DeAaron Fox has a chance at Most Improved if he can straighten out the jump shot and hit 2-for-5 from 3-point range in Friday night's win over the Wizards after starting the season 1-for-10 from beyond the arc.

After impressive wins over New York and Portland, the Heat holding serve at home here would give it a three-game winning streak that would match last season's second-longest run of prosperity.

Brooklyn at New York, 8:05 p.m. ET: With the exception of 20-point loss in Indiana, the Nets have been in every game this season and are 4-2 ATS after slicing into a 19-point deficit to challenge Golden State late in the foruth quarter of Sunday's 120-114 loss in which they shot 20-for-42 from 3-point range.

The Knicks lost in Brooklyn by a bucket on Oct. 19 but had won four straight against the Nets before Tim Hardaway's game-winning 3-pointer at Barclays came nowhere close to finding the mark.

Golden State at Chicago, 8:05 p.m. ET: Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant are in a great flow to start 2018-19 and combined to shoot 20-for-41 from 3-point range in wins over NYC's teams, scoring 139 points between them by often taking turns toying with the Knicks and Nets.

WIth Bobby Portis and Kris Dunn out for at least a month due to knee injuries and Lauri Markkanen (elbow) also out until about December, the Bulls are the Zach LaVine Show at the moment and got the full brunt of all that entails in a Saturday win in Atlanta where he scored 27 points and 11 boards but turned it over nine times.

L.A. Lakers at Minnesota, 8:05 p.m. ET, NBATV: The Lake Show has been as inconsistent as expected thus far, but Lance Stephenson has been the driving force in both wins, dominating on the second unit while averaging 16.3 points, 7 rebounds and 4.6 assists over the last three games entering this one.

The Jimmy Butler saga continues with no resolution but it's obvious his presence is killing Karl-Anthony Towns' game since even more touches due to Andrew Wiggins' absence couldn't snap him out of his funk as Towns shot 12-for-33 in losses to Toronto and Milwaukee, regressing in full view.

Dallas at San Antonio, 8:35 p.m. ET: Luka Doncic is averaging 18.7 points, 6.2 boards and 4.0 assists through the first six games of his career, but it remains to be seen how he handles losing for the first time in his pro career given how successful his teams were in Europe.

Sweeping the Lakers has helped the Spurs top the .500 mark through five games and a light schedule over the next few weeks give them an opportunity to remain among the West's top eight when most had written them off prematurely -- again.

Week 8

Monday
Patriots (5-2) @ Bills (2-5)— In four games with Edelman/Gordon at WR, New England scored average of 39.3 ppg, winning all four games, last two by 3-7 points. Patriots are 1-2 on road; since ’16, NE is 12-6 as road favorites, but over last four years, New England is only 3-9 vs spread as a divisional road favorite. Patriots are 31-4 in last 35 games vs Buffalo, winning last six in Buffalo (four by 15+ points). Bills were +5 in turnovers in their two wins this season; in their last four games, they scored two offensive TD’s on 42 drives, with 12 turnovers. Buffalo started three QB’s in its first seven games, and injured rookie Allen was best by far. Last five Buffalo games stayed under the total; last three Patriot games went over.

LAST WEEK

The Patriots (5-2 SU, 4-3 ATS) are back in control of the AFC East after holding off the Bears, 38-31. New England was able to score a pair of non-offensive touchdowns as Cordarrelle Patterson returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score and Kyle Van Noy picked up a blocked punt and brought it back for the tie-breaking touchdown in the third.

Tom Brady did his thing for the Patriots for throwing three touchdown passes, the fourth time this season the future Hall-of-Famer has posted a trio of touchdown tosses. Running back James White hauled in a pair of touchdowns from Brady, while recently acquired Josh Gordon picked up his first 100-yard game since joining New England in Week 4. Tight end Rob Gronkowski missed the victory with a back injury but is expected to suit up on Monday.

The Bills (2-5 SU, 3-4 ATS) have been an utter disaster at times this season, as Buffalo seemed to be moving in the right direction with rookie quarterback Josh Allen. However, the former Wyoming standout suffered an elbow injury in a 20-13 loss at Houston in Week 7. So Buffalo had to turn to journeyman quarterback Derek Anderson against Indianapolis, who was intercepted three times in a 37-5 drubbing to the Colts.

Running back LeSean McCoy left early after only two carries for one yard due to a head injury, but should play on Monday. Since scoring 27 points in a rout of Minnesota in Week 3, the Bills have scored a total of 31 points in the last four games, while ranking last in the NFL with 81 points on the season.

UNDER THUNDER

Due to Buffalo’s lack of offense, the Bills are turning into a solid team to back on the UNDER on a weekly basis. The Bills are currently on a five-game UNDER streak as none of those contests have closed with a total of higher than 43 ½, while not busting the 13-point mark in each of the past four weeks.

The last OVER for the Bills cashed in Week 2 at home against the Chargers in a 31-20 loss on a 41 ½ total. Monday’s total will be the highest for the Bills this season at 44 ½, while this is the lowest total for New England since Week 2 against Jacksonville (also 44 ½).

PATS GOING TO PAT

Although New England is currently on a three-game OVER streak, the Patriots have lit up the scoreboard since a 1-2 start. After getting blasted at Detroit in Week 3, the Patriots have scored 38, 38, 43, and 38 points the past four weeks. To put this scoring run in perspective, New England never scored 38 points or more in four consecutive games back in their undefeated regular season run of 2007, a year that they finished with the second-most points in a season in NFL history with 589.

SERIES HISTORY

Since getting shut out at Buffalo in the 2003 season opener, the Patriots have won 13 of the past 14 matchups at New Era Field. Buffalo’s last home win against New England came in 2011 as a seven-point underdog, 34-31. Since that upset, the margin of victory for the Patriots in western New York has been 24, 2, 15, 8, 16, and 20. Last season, the Pats blasted the Bills as 7 ½-point road favorites, 23-3.

The Bills have dropped five of the past six meetings overall with the Patriots since 2015 as the lone victory came in 2016 at Gillette Stadium, 16-0*. Yes, there is an asterisk next to that score as Brady was serving the final game of his Deflategate suspension. In the next meeting in Buffalo, the Patriots ripped the Bills, 41-25 behind four touchdown passes from Brady.

MONDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

The Patriots have appeared on Monday Night Football once in each of the past five seasons, compiling a 2-3 SU and 1-3-1 ATS mark. All three losses have come on the road at Miami (2017), Kansas City (2014), and Carolina (2013), as New England’s last Monday night away victory came in the 2011 opener at Miami.

New England and Buffalo last met on a Monday night at Gillette Stadium in 2015 as the Patriots held off the Bills, 20-13 as seven-point favorites. The Bills are 0-5 on Mondays since 2007, but Buffalo has compiled a 2-1-1 ATS mark as an underdog, while hosting a Monday game for the first time since 2008 against Cleveland.

HANDICAPPER’S CORNER

Expert Joe Nelson checks in with his thoughts on this AFC East matchup. As mentioned earlier, the Bills’ offense has continued to struggle, but Nelson notes that Buffalo’s defense hasn’t been too bad, “Buffalo has held four of the last five opponents to 22 or fewer points as the defense has been capable. Buffalo is third in the NFL in yards per pass attempt allowed surrendering only 6.7 yards per attempt to only trail Baltimore and Jacksonville in that category. Buffalo has allowed 13 passing touchdowns, but has 19 sacks and five interceptions. Buffalo’s offense has given away 16 turnovers however including a league-high 12 interceptions from a trio of marginal quarterbacks.”

The Bills are a heavy underdog as expected, but Buffalo has history on its side according to Nelson, “Since 2007, NFL home underdogs of 10 or more points are 40-20 ATS including going 4-0 ATS (and 2-2 SU) last season. The past six NFL home underdogs of 14 or more points have all covered as well going back to November of 2009. The Patriots have been a double-digit road favorite 11 times under Belichick going 5-6 ATS including losing SU twice in the past four attempts since 2016, both times in Miami.”

LINE MOVEMENT

The Patriots opened up as 14-point road favorites at the Westgate Superbook last week. There hasn’t been much movement on the side as the Westgate has New England at -13 ½, while many books have kept the Pats at -14. The total has also been steady at 44 ½, the lowest between these teams with Brady starting since 2015, won by the Patriots, 40-32 in Buffalo.

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach NHL Game #51 Monday Free Pick Calgary Flames Money Line (+) @ Toronto Maple Leafs @ 7:05 ET - This is the perfect spot to take a shot with a sizable underdog in the right situation at the right time. Calgary has lost 3 straight games but the Flames previously had won 5 of their 7 prior games and this hockey club is much improved this season and their record will eventually reflect that. Calgary is catching the Maple Leafs off huge back to back wins in a battle that was effectively the top Canadian team in the East versus the top Canadian team in the West. Those back to back wins for Toronto over Winnipeg had a "cherry on top" thanks to the big rally for the 3-2 win in the 3rd period for the Leafs over the Jets on Saturday. As a result, I feel Toronto is not going to have a lot left in the tank here and, keep in mind, Toronto had previously lost 3 of their 4 prior home games. The Flames did lose their most recent road game but had previously won 3 of their 4 prior road games. Calgary lost their lone match-up at Toronto last season despite a 48-29 edge in shots on goal. Time for a little payback tonight! Look for the Flames to improve to 5-1 this season when off a game where they allowed 4 or more goals! Free Pick CALGARY Money Line

The Key: The Hawks are probably the least-talented team in the NBA. They do have two wins already, but their three losses have all come by 12 points or more to the Knicks, Grizzlies and Bulls. Their two wins came against the Cavs and Mavs. So the 76ers will be by far the best team they have faced yet. And I expect them to get run out of the gym tonight. The 76ers went 3-0 SU & 2-1 ATS in their three meetings with the Hawks last season, winning two of those by double-digits. The 76ers are 21-9 ATS in their last 30 home games, and 20-7 ATS in their last 27 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. Take Philadelphia.

The Kings here are worth a look at this price. They have had a couple days here after winning their last two games both as an underdog. This team is loaded with young talent so they will take their lumps along the way, but the Heat dont deserve to be this big of favorite.
Miami is coming off a big win which I had over Portland and this is their final home game before a 3 game road stretch coming up. The Heat were favored by the same over a Knicks team that has major injuries right now, but since they have covered back to back games it is inflated.
I look for the young Kings to really put forth a big effort on their first road game of this east coast trip.

1* Free Pick on Kings/Heat UNDER
There's simply too much value here with the UNDER to pass up in Monday's NBA showdown between the Kings and Heat. I just feel we are seeing an inflated number in games involving Sacrament, as the OVER started out a perfect 4-0 with each of those 4 games seeing at least 238 points.
The last two have both went well under. They had a total of 220.5 against Memphis and neither team reached 100, as they combined for 189. Next time out against the Wizards the total was 236.5 and they ended up at 228.
Miami is a team that always fields a top tier defense under head coach Erik Spoelstra. Heat are holding teams to almost 6-points fewer than their season averages and have held opponents to a mere 40.8% shooting at home.
I know the Kings like to push the pace, but that's not a concern here. The UNDER is 25-9 in Miami's last 34 games under Spoelstra against an up-tempo team that averages 88 or more shots/game. UNDER is also 14-2 in Sacramento's last 16 vs teams who are scoring 110+ points/game. Take the UNDER!

The Miami Heat host the Sacramento Kings at American Airlines Arena Monday night, and I think we'll see a wide open high-scoring game.
This young Kings team has been surprisingly competitive at the start of the season, entering this game with a 3-3 record. The Kings defeated Washington 116-112 on Friday and have averaged 124 ppg through their first three away games. Miami is a bit banged up but off a solid 120-111 win against Portland and over is 9-3 in the Heat's last 12 vs. Western Conference teams.

The Lakers are off to just a 2-4 start this season. They have lost some close games as all four losses came by single-digits. And they’ve had to play without Brandon Ingram and Rajon Rondo due to suspension for several games. But now both Ingram and Rondo are back and the Lakers should start making some strides forward. The Timberwolves are a team in turmoil right now due to all the Jimmy Butler trade rumors. Andrew Wiggins has missed the past couple games with a quad injury and is uncertain to play tonight as well. The Timberwolves are just 2-4 SU & 2-4 ATS this season. They are coming off a 30-point home loss to the Bucks and can’t be trusted right now. Give me the Lakers.

My money is on the UNDER 45 on Monday Night Football. Both teams are going to find it difficult to score. Buffalo's offense has been awful and that's almost putting it nicely. The Bills have scored 13 or fewer points in 4 straight games. They are again starting Derek Anderson, who has been with the team for a few weeks. Patriots defense has been suspect, but it's plenty good enough to keep this offense in check. As for New England's offense, I think they struggle to get going with this game on the road and the Bills having one of the more underrated defenses in the league. Most importantly Buffalo can defend the pass, as they rank 3rd in the league, giving up just 224.6 ypg. Bet the UNDER 45!

On Monday night, play Play Under on home teams when the total is 210 to 219.5 like SAN ANTONIO, after allowing 105 points or more in two straight games, against an opponent after allowing 105 points or more in five straight games. In the past five years, this situation is 23-5, 82.1 percent UNDER.

My free play is on the SA Spurs at 8:35 ET.
DeMar DeRozan posted 30 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in Saturday's 110-106 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, giving him 136 points in his first five of games with the Spurs. That surpasses the franchise record of 115 points set by Hall of Famer David Robinson in his rookie season. The victory was a nice recovery from the Spurs' 20-point loss to Indiana at home three days earlier. "It's our fifth game of the season," DeRozan told reporters Saturday. "You've got to kind of enjoy it, because this is the beginning stages. We're going to keep building and keep getting better and better. It gives you a lot of faith." DeRozan is averaging 27.2 points, 6.0 rebounds and 7.8 assists (well above his career average of 3.1) in his first five games with San Antonio.
The 3-2 Spurs will host the 2-4 Mavs on Monday, who lost 113-104 to Utah at home Sunday night. Dennis Smith Jr. returned from a one-game absence due to an ankle injury to score 27 points on 12-of-19 shooting for Dallas. Harrison Barnes, the team's leading scorer teh last two seasons, was limited to seven points in 34 minutes in Sunday's loss and is 8-for-30 from the floor (26.7%) in two games since returning from a hamstring injury. Center DeAndre Jordan finished with 12 points and 19 rebounds vs the Jazz for his sixth straight double-double to begin the season (he's averaging 15.3 & 14.7). The veteran center also had a career-high nine assists in the defeat.
Despite DeRozan's excellent start, the Spurs have yet to win consecutive games this season but that figures to change here. The Spurs went 3-1 against Dallas last season, with LaMarcus Aldridge averaging 27.5 points and 10.5 rebounds to lead the way. The Spurs own a 108-68 edge all-time against the Mavericks, including a 61-27 advantage in games played in San Antonio. Lay the points.
Good luck...Larry

10* FREE NBA PICK (Mavs +7)
I'll take my chances here with the Mavericks as a decently priced road dog. I think we are getting a great price here on Dallas due to them having lost 3 straight. All 3 of those losses came by single-digits, which is pretty impressive, given how bad they have been shooting the ball. Dallas has shot under 42% in each of their last 3 games. That can only get better and this isn't your typical lockdown Spurs defense. San Antonio is giving up 118.6 ppg and opponents are shooting 49.7% from the field and 41.9% from behind the 3-point line. All 3 of their wins have come by 4-points or less and they have an ugly 20-point home loss to the Pacers on their resume. Give me the Mavericks +7!

NBA | Pelicans vs Nuggets
Play on: Nuggets -9 -105 at pinnacle

Jack’s Free Pick Monday: Denver Nuggets -9
This line was sitting at 6.5 this morning and jumped up to 9 once it was announced that Anthony Davis was officially ruled out. Davis is worth more than 2.5 points for this team, so I’ll pull the trigger on backing the Nuggets as 9-point favorites here.
Plus, the Pelicans will also be without starting PG Elfrid Payton and SF Darius Miller. That means they will be without three key players tonight. And they’ll be playing their third game in four days, so it’s not a great situation for them at all.
Conversely, the Nuggets come in on three days’ rest having last played on Thursday. They are off to a 4-1 SU & 4-1 ATS start to the season and have been one of the most underrated teams in the NBA thus far. Look for them to put away the short-handed Pelicans by double-digits tonight.
The Nuggets are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games. Denver is 37-17-2 ATS in its last 56 games when playing on three or more days’ rest. The home team is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings. The Pelicans are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 trips to Denver. Bet the Nuggets Monday.
