Buffalo Bulls vs. Ohio Bobcats Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NCAAF Predictions 13th November 2018 By Charles Jay for Scores And Stats
by Charles Jay Scores & Stats on 11/13/2018

The Buffalo Bulls are clearly on their way to a berth in the Mid-American Conference title game, and this has been a tremendous turnaround in the program under head coach Lance Leipold. This is a complete team, which can move the ball through the air and on the ground, and they also play defense.

The Ohio Bobcats, however, are a pretty formidable foe; they are highly efficient on offense behind a genuine dual-threat quarterback and are well-coached by Frank Solich, who has been around the block and back in this assignment and others.

Ohio is still clinging to the hope of winning the MAC East title, but the door will be shut on that if they can't beat Buffalo in this Wednesday night game at Peden Stadium in Athens, Ohio.

TV: ESPN2, 7 PM ET. LINE: Ohio -2

ABOUT BUFFALO: The winds at UB Stadium were extremely challenging last week as Buffalo (9-1 SU, 8-2 ATS) put itself even more firmly into the driver's seat in the MAC East with a 48-14 victory. The weather precluded the teams from doing a whole lot through the air, but the Bulls rolled up 358 yards on the ground, and Jaret Patterson led the charge in a big way with 187 yards on 18 carries. This included touchdown runs of 64 and 21 yards, and this performance, which was complemented by Emmanuel Reed's 58 yards, demonstrated Buffalo's ability to run the ball if they need to. That will put this team in good stead in the MAC title chase, as will defense. They held an overmatched Kent State squad to just 183 yards, and they took a 46-0 lead into the fourth quarter. Under more agreeable conditions, of course, the 6-7 Tyree Jackson is the trigger man that makes this offense very dangerous. He's thrown 24 touchdown passes (with eight interceptions) and his offensive line has done such a great job, allowing just five sacks. Buffalo has a +9 turnover margin and ranks 11th in the nation in passing efficiency defense. Lance Leipold has once again gotten the job done. The six-time Division III national champion (at Wisconsin-Whitewater) got the Bulls bowl-eligible last season, his third at the helm, and now they are angling for their best record ever.

ABOUT OHIO: Frank Solich's team was really rolling with consecutive wins by margins of 49-14, 52-14 and 59-14 against Bowling Green, Ball State, and Western Michigan, respectively, but then they suffered a critical 30-28 defeat at Miami of Ohio that put them behind the eight-ball. They simply got off to a horrible start, falling behind 28-7 at the intermission. And their big comeback in the second half, during which they held Miami to a safety, fell just short. The fact is, the safety constituted the difference in the game, and Miami was able to end a five-game losing streak in the "Battle of the Bricks." Nathan Rourke had 163 yards and threw two TD passes in the second half, while AJ Oullette ran for 168 yards. Rourke had the Bobcats in position for a Hail Mary at the end, but there was no miracle to be had. This puts Ohio (6-4 SU & ATS) in a position where in order to get to the MAC title game, it has to beat Buffalo and Akron in these last two games, then hope that Buffalo loses to Bowling Green. The strength of Rourke is that he can contribute equally well with his arm or his feet; even though he was limited to just 16 net yards against Miami, he has 653 yards on the ground to go with 1927 through the air, and his ratio of 19 TD passes to five interceptions is excellent. The Bobcats are 12th in the nation in scoring (39.3 ppg), and like Buffalo they have a +9 turnover margin, a by-product of the 24 takeaways they've had. But they are just inside the nation's top 100 in passing efficiency defense, so there is a reasonable chance they could be sitting ducks for the Buffalo air attack led by Jackson - weather permitting, of course.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Lance Leipold holds the distinction of getting to 100 wins faster than any other NCAA coach. That happened in 2014, as he was on his way to a 109-6 record as coach at Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater.

2. The home team has won each of the last eight games these teams have played against each other. Ohio holds the overall edge in the series by a 14-10 margin.

3. Interestingly, 22 of the 46 touchdowns Buffalo has scored this season have been tallied by freshmen.

PREDICTION: Buffalo 33, Ohio 28

Miami of Ohio Redhawks vs. Northern Illinois Huskies Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NCAAF Predictions 13th November 2018 By Charles Jay for Scores And Stats
by Charles Jay Scores & Stats on 11/13/2018

The Miami of Ohio Redhawks can't go to the Mid-American Conference title game, because they suffered a loss to East division leader Buffalo. But they now get a chance to cause some anxiety for the West division leader as they take on the Northern Illinois Huskies on Wednesday night before a national television audience.

Miami pulled a mild upset at home against Ohio, but they almost blew a 21-point lead in the process. With their veteran offensive line and a pretty balanced offense, they can be dangerous for many MAC foes.

But battle-tested NIU has made it difficult for a lot of opponents to score on them, and they are undefeated in league play.

This one takes place at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb, IL, with the newly-established Mallory Cup at stake.

TV: ESPNU, 8 PM ET. LINE: Northern Illinois -6

ABOUT MIAMI OF OHIO: They looked like they could be cruising to victory, with a 28-7 lead at halftime against Ohio. But the RedHawks (4-6 SU, 6-4 ATS) almost blew that lead, barely hanging on for a 30-28 win that kept their hopes for bowl eligibility alive. Miami's offense did not put a point on the board in the second half. They gave up two TD passes to Ohio's Nathan Rourke, had a punt blocked and returned for a TD, and were only able to create a difference when Rourke was sacked for a safety, after a great "coffin corner" punt by Kyle Kramer, who wound up winning MAC East Special Teams Player of the Week. Gus Ragland went 20-32 for 199 yards and a touchdown, while Alonzo Smith had 94 yards and two TD's on the ground. Miami needs to beat Northern Illinois and Ball State to become bowl eligible for head coach Chuck Martin, who at the post-game press conference sounded off on home fans who he thought abandoned his team, saying "There’s a ton of panic because you can hear our fans stinking, our home fans yelling at us as the game’s unraveling. I mean, welcome to Miami! " He also commented on what he referred to as the "cheapness" of the MAC schools, since there was no trophy for the winner of the "Battle of the Bricks." Ragland has thrown 18 touchdown passes with just four interceptions, and the RedHawks have committed just nine turnovers overall, which puts them ninth in the nation in that category.

ABOUT NORTHERN ILLINOIS: Operating on all cylinders, NIU (7-3 SU, 6-4 ATS) routed Toledo by a 38-15 count last week. Two running backs topped the 100-yard mark (Tre Harbison 139, Marcus Jones 103), and quarterback Marcus Childers scored twice on the ground and had 131 yards passing. All-American defensive end Sutton Smith also returned a blocked punt for a touchdown. That was the highest point total for Northern Illinois this season. Smith has won MAC West Defensive Player of the Week honors twice this season, but this time he's been named Special Teams Player of the Week. Harbison, who has 804 rushing yards on 5.5 yards a carry, was MAC West Offensive Player of the Week. Defenses that can force Childers to the air will have better success; he is averaging a microscopic 4.9 yards per attempt. The Huskies are ranked only 123rd in offensive yardage per game. NIU is 82nd in the FBS ranks in the category of "Yards per Point," at 15.1, although they have been making strides, as that number has been only 13.8 over the last three games. On the stop unit they excel, leading the nation with 38 sacks and holding opponents to just 2.7 yards per rushing attempt. The situation for the Huskies is this - if they can win either of these last two games (the next one is against Western Michigan), they will clinch the MAC West title and a berth in the conference championship game.

EXTRA POINTS

1. For the first time, this game is played for the Mallory Cup, named in honor of coach Bill Mallory, who led both of these schools to MAC championships and passed away this past May.

2. Northern Illinois has won seven of the last eight meetings, losing only the 2010 MAC title game during that time.

3. NIU's Sutton Smith has filled up the stat sheet on defense, ranking seventh in the nation in sacks, fourth in forced fumbles and 15th in Tackles for Loss.

# 3 CATCH A CAB 12/1

# 2 FRISKY MAGICIAN 4/1

# 11 DISCRETIONARY MARQ 9/2

CATCH A CAB looks to be a respectable contender and the potential return justifies the risky nature of the long odds. Has been travelling strongly and has among the top speed in the race for today's distance. Ought to be given a shot based on the respectable speed rating garnered in the last race. Don't let this gelding slip past you. Could prove victorious at big odds. FRISKY MAGICIAN - Overall the speed figures of this racer look very good in this contest. With a respectable 105 speed fig last time out, will definitely be a factor in this competition. DISCRETIONARY MARQ - Has been close at the finish most every time recently. Sharp jock with conditioner numbers make this horse a strong pick.

#13 LITTLE MIGHTY MAN (ML=5/1)

BACK PAGE - Rocco comes to ride after getting to know the gelding in the last race. Tomlinson brings him back again. I recommend you stay with this hot gelding. BLUE MESA - Entered a $40,000 Maiden Claiming race at Churchill Downs in the last race and raced in the slop finishing seventh. Expect better in this event. Hernandez drops him down to this class. You don't need too much more handicapping knowledge to figure that this animal should run well at this level. This gelding gets a weight break of -7 lbs from last race. Could be helpful in this event. LITTLE MIGHTY MAN - Lopez and Coontz partnered up are a horse gambler's friend.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 TAP SHOW (ML=3/1), #4 WILD WILL (ML=7/2), #12 NATIONAL PRIDE (ML=4/1),

TAP SHOW - The insufficiency of zip in the last one, a route race, is a bit alarming. WILD WILL - This gelding is always hitting the board, but just doesn't win. Tough to bet on him on the top end. NATIONAL PRIDE - I'd like to see more hospitable recent showings with morning line of 4/1.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Hal - BACK PAGE - Comparing last speed ratings in this field, nobody beats this gelding. Tops in the field with a last speed rating of 81 on October 31st.

# 2 HOT HEADED GAL 2/1

# 5 WILD CAT GRACE 5/1

# 4 SOLARTE 4/1

I've got to go with HOT HEADED GAL. Keep this filly in your exotics as Flores has given backers some double digit gains. The average class fig of 57 makes this horse hard to beat. Has performed solidly lately in sprint races, posting a nifty 57 avg speed fig. WILD CAT GRACE - Earned a solid Equibase Speed Figure in the last race. Can run another good one in this race. Have to look at solely on class, with some of the top class figures of this field. SOLARTE - Look for a very strong pace improvement from this racer who enters with second time Lasix today. Bocachica will almost certainly be able to get this filly to break out quickly for this event.

#1 GLAMOUR LADY (ML=5/2)

GLAMOUR LADY - You'll be making money right and left by turning your cash onto this jockey/conditioner combination. This horse has the pace, and no one may be able to keep up with her. Have to give this filly a good shot. Ran a nice outing last time out within the last month or so.

Vulnerable Contenders: #8 SASSY ANGEL (ML=3/1), #2 FUN SUCKER (ML=7/2), #5 EVERYBODYLUVSLUCY (ML=5/1),

SASSY ANGEL - Nice race on Oct 9th at Thistledown, but the fact that there are no workouts since has to make one a little worried. This filly registered a rating in her last event which likely isn't good enough in today's event. FUN SUCKER - A pattern of decreasing speed figs 70/49/24 for this racer. EVERYBODYLUVSLUCY - Garnered a disappointing speed fig last out in a $15,000 Maiden Claiming race on Oct 21st. Doubtful to see an improved performance off of that fig.

Philadelphia 76ers vs. Orlando Magic Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NBA Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
76ers vs. Magic Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

The Philadelphia 76ers are expected to have Jimmy Butler in the lineup for his team debut when they finish a three-game road trip at the Orlando Magic on Wednesday. Butler was acquired in a headline-grabbing trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves and could be a perfect fit for a team eyeing the top spot in the Eastern Conference.

"I mean, where do you begin," coach Brett Brown told reporters when asked what the four-time All-Star brings to the roster. "I think that defensively, and with the physicality that he plays with, and he replicates ... he mirrors the spirit of Philadelphia. He is a fierce competitor, and there is toughness that he plays with. It's who he is. He wears it on his face. It's seen in his game. It's confirmed by multiple All-Defensive teams, and it's a perfect fit for our city and our program defensively." Butler joins a team that has won seven of its last 10 after Monday's 124-112 win at Miami to improve to 1-1 on the trip. Joel Embiid bounced back from a rough shooting night in Saturday's loss to Memphis to provide 35 points and 18 rebounds for Philadelphia, which improved to 2-6 on the road. The Magic, who fell by one point to the Sixers on the road last month, won four of five before falling 117-109 at Washington on Monday.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCS Philadelphia, FS Florida (Orlando)

ABOUT THE 76ERS (9-6): Brown has yet to indicate whose spot Butler will take when Wednesday rolls around but it stands to reason that he'll eat up many of the minutes currently reserved for second-year man Markelle Fultz, who had five points on 2-of-8 shooting Monday night. The 20-year-old has struggled with his shot since becoming a pro and had a notable double-clutch on a foul shot against the Heat, just about the time the news broke that he had parted ways with a trainer attempting to help improve his shot. JJ Redick often replaces Fultz to start second halves and the veteran is averaging 22.5 points over the last two games.

ABOUT THE MAGIC (6-8): Swingman Terrence Ross missed more than four months last year due to knee and leg issues, but he's making up for lost time while averaging 13.8 points -- including at least 21 in his last two games -- off the bench. He is 9-for-13 from 3-point range during those two contests and leads Orlando with 32 makes from beyond the arc despite being fifth in minutes played. Aaron Gordon (ankle) returned from a one-game layoff to produce 18 points and 10 rebounds at Washington.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. After making 4-of-13 3-pointers in eight October games, Fultz has yet to attempt a long-range shot in seven contests this month.

2. Magic C Nikola Vucevic has three straight double-doubles and eight -- along with one triple-double -- in his last 12 games.

3. Redick scored a season-high 31 points and made the decisive 3-pointer in the closing seconds in the 116-115 win over Orlando on Oct. 20.

PREDICTION: 76ers 112, Magic 107

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Washington Wizards Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NBA Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

The Washington Wizards finally have recorded back-to-back wins and look to keep the success going when they host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday. Washington lost nine of its first 11 games before looking much sharper in triumphs over Miami and Orlando.

The Wizards have made the playoffs in four of the last five seasons but weren't looking so stellar while losing four of their first 10 games by 19 or more points. The defense is still a work in progress as Washington allowed Orlando to go 15-for-30 from 3-point range during Monday's 117-109 win in the opener of its five-game homestand. Cleveland halted a five-game slide with a convincing 113-89 victory over Charlotte on Tuesday as center Tristan Thompson continued his strong play with 11 points and matched his career best of 21 rebounds. "He has been a workhorse," Cavaliers coach Larry Drew said during his postgame press conference. "He has been an anchor for us. He's rebounding the ball all over the place and he's being more vocal than he has in the past."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Ohio (Cleveland), NBCS Washington

ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (2-11): Injury-depleted Cleveland got season-best scoring outputs from bench players Jordan Clarkson (24 points) and David Nwaba (18 on 7-of-9 shooting) while hammering a Charlotte team against which it lost by 32 points on Nov. 3. Thompson is averaging 15.5 points and 16 rebounds during a four-game run of double-doubles as he picks up the slack for a team that's missing forwards Kevin Love (foot), Cedi Osman (back) and Sam Dekker (ankle), swingman Kyle Korver (foot) and point guard George Hill (shoulder). "If we play the right way and compete for 48 minutes, the wins will come," Thompson told reporters. "We got over the hump and got that 'W' and we have a pretty big challenge in front of us in D.C."

ABOUT THE WIZARDS (4-9): Star point guard John Wall recorded 25 points and 10 assists on Monday for his third double-double in four games after failing to record one in the first nine contests. Coach Scott Brooks was pleased to see Wall do his damage in 33 minutes against Orlando after averaging 41.3 minutes over the previous three games. "To be quite honest, I've been playing John a little bit too much," Brooks told reporters. "Not that his body can't handle it. ... But I've got to be wise. I definitely wanted to keep his minutes at a respectable number (on Monday)."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Cavaliers have won each of their last four visits to Washington.

2. Cleveland rookie PG Collin Sexton is averaging 17 points over his last three games, going 5-for-7 from 3-point range during that stretch.

3. Washington SG Bradley Beal scored 21 points against Orlando to mark his 10th game with 20 or more points this season.

Chicago Bulls vs. Boston Celtics Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NBA Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

The last time the Boston Celtics were at home they were finishing off a big win over the previously undefeated Milwaukee Bucks and looking forward to maintaining momentum on a long road trip. The trip did not go as planned for the Celtics, who return to TD Garden licking their wounds ahead of a Wednesday night matchup with the Chicago Bulls.

"We needed this [bad road trip]. We're not as good as we think we are," guard Kyrie Irving told reporters after Boston went 1-4 away from home, capped by Sunday's 100-94 loss at Portland. "That's what it comes down to. I said in the beginning of the season, the excitement is done. It's real basketball now, so it's not just about the potential of the team or where we'll be at the end of the season. It's about right now and taking care of what's in front of us." Irving and Jayson Tatum combined for 48 points in the loss while their fellow starters had a total of 24 on 9-for-28 shooting as the Celtics had their worst offensive effort in a road game this season. The Bulls split a pair of games at home, first squeaking past Cleveland by a point before falling 103-98 to Dallas on Monday. Zach LaVine scored 26 points in the loss and joins Michael Jordan as the only player in franchise history to reach 20 points in each of the first 14 games of a season.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCS Chicago, NBCS Boston Linea: Celtics -12.5

ABOUT THE BULLS (4-10): Chicago is playing without four starters and help is not coming anytime soon, as coach Fred Hoiberg told the media that forward Lauri Markkanen (elbow) will be sidelined longer than expected and that point guard Kris Dunn (knee) has yet to begin running on the court. Jabari Parker has stepped in to provide some support for LaVine but he's averaging 13.7 points on 41.9 percent shooting as a starter after posting 15.9 on 46.3 percent in seven games off the bench. Rookie Chandler Hutchison collected nine points and a season-high nine rebounds in 18 minutes against Dallas.

ABOUT THE CELTICS (7-6): Slow starts plagued Boston on the trip and its one win -- an overtime triumph at lowly Phoenix -- required a comeback from 22 points down. "We just don't hunt great on offense until it's desperation time, and we're spending a lot of time in desperation time on this trip, and it's been a disappointing trip," coach Brad Stevens told reporters Sunday. After averaging 11 points on 34.4 percent shooting in the first three games of the trip, forward Jayson Tatum averaged 24 on 50 percent in the final two contests, including a career high-tying 27 at Portland.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. LaVine is shooting 37.6 percent from the field and 25.6 from 3-point range in November, but he's 44-of-49 from the foul line.

2. Celtics C Al Horford was 3-for-16 from 3-point distance on the trip after making 4-of-11 in the win over Milwaukee on Nov. 1.

3. Boston won three of four meetings last season and claimed each of the last six at home.

PREDICTION: Celtics 109, Bulls 98

Miami Heat vs. Brooklyn Nets Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NBA Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

The Brooklyn Nets received relatively good news on injured guard Caris LeVert and will try to press on without him when they host the Miami Heat on Wednesday. LeVert suffered a gruesome foot injury during Monday's 120-113 loss at Minnesota that initially looked like a season-ender, but the team announced Tuesday that the cornerstone of the franchise's rebuild will not need surgery and could return this season.

Brooklyn still needs to endure a period of time without its leader in scoring (18.4 points per game) and steals (1.21), and it carries a two-game losing streak into Wednesday's affair. "I just think it's a devastating blow for us, for him. That's all I really want to say about this," coach Kenny Atkinson said after Monday's loss. "Our thoughts should be with him and his recovery. And I really don't want to talk about the game or anything else." The Heat have their own problems to deal with having lost three straight and six of their last eight. They capped a 1-3 homestand with a 124-114 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday, the eighth time in the last nine games Miami has allowed at least 110 points.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FS Sun (Miami), YES (Brooklyn) Linea: Heat -1.5

ABOUT THE HEAT (5-8): Miami gave up 32 points in each of the first three quarters in Monday's loss as defensive issues continue to be an issue for a team that is searching for some answers. "It's time. It's definitely time to start looking in the mirror," guard Josh Richardson told reporters. "It shouldn't have gotten to this point but it's definitely time to start cracking down and problem-solving." Point guard Goran Dragic provided a bright spot with 22 points, which comes on heels of 21 scoreless minutes -- on 0-of-7 shooting -- in a loss to Washington and two games on the sidelines with a foot issue.

ABOUT THE NETS (6-8): Guard D'Angelo Russell will assume more of the scoring responsibility while LeVert is on the mend, and the former of the two enters this uncertain stretch on a good note after making a career-high nine 3-pointers in the loss to the Timberwolves. Russell is averaging 19 points while making 38.1 percent from beyond the arc this month and has exactly two steals in each of his last four contests. Forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson made his first start of the season at Minnesota and finished with 14 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals in 27 minutes.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Richardson is 6-for-7 from 3-point distance over his last two games.

2. Nets PF Ed Davis is averaging 9.8 rebounds in 19.5 minutes over a four-game span.

3. Miami won the first of four meetings last season before Brooklyn claimed the final three.

Detroit Pistons vs. Toronto Raptors Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NBA Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

Blake Griffin is in a shooting slump, and the frustration seems to be getting to him. Griffin will try to get his shot and his temper under control on Wednesday, when his Detroit Pistons face their toughest test of the season's first month with a visit to the Toronto Raptors.

Griffin is a combined 6-of-26 from the floor and 1-of-10 from beyond the arc in the last two games while getting knocked around by opposing defenses and was ejected in the third quarter of Sunday's 113-103 loss to Charlotte Hornets after being whistled for a flagrant 2 foul. "I think he's getting hit on a lot of shots," Detroit coach Dwane Casey told reporters. "I've got to go back and see it. The frustration builds up. He's had a lot of load on himself - bringing the ball up the floor, handling the basketball, being a point forward, then going down in the paint and battling down there. Officials are not going to change the way they're calling it, so we have to adjust." The Raptors suffered through a rare off night on Monday, dropping a 126-110 decision at home to the New Orleans Pelicans to snap a six-game winning streak. "They played well," Toronto point guard Kyle Lowry told reporters after the setback. "We weren't physical enough. They got to the rim. It's one game."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, FS Detroit, Sportsnet One (Toronto) Linea: Raptors -9.5

ABOUT THE PISTONS (6-6): While Griffin is struggling, center Andre Drummond is thriving and notched his fifth 20-20 game of the season with 23 points and 22 rebounds on Sunday. Drummond is averaging 23.5 points and 19 boards over the last four games and increased his presence on the defensive end with totals of eight blocks and eight steals in that span. Shooting guard Reggie Bullock is trying to pick up some of the slack on offense as well and went 9-of-15 from beyond the arc in the last two games after recovering from an ankle injury that kept him out the first two games of the month.

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (12-2): The loss obscured another strong performance from power forward Pascal Siakam, who finished with 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting for his third straight game scoring 20 or more. Siakam was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week prior to Monday's game after averaging 20 points on 21-of-29 shooting in three wins last week. "He's just a whole other level of confidence I think," Toronto coach Nick Nurse told reporters of Siakam. "He has always been an energy guy and with the ball he's exciting to watch. I think it's fun. And it gives us a whole other dimension."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Pistons PG Ish Smith is 4-of-23 from 3-point range over the last five games.

2. Lowry went 0-of-6 from 3-point range on Monday and is 3-of-18 over the last three contests.

3. Toronto owns a six-game winning streak in the series.

Knicks vs. Thunder Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

New York Knicks coach David Fizdale is trying to mold his roster into a winner but is having some trouble putting the pieces together. Fizdale and the Knicks will try to avoid a third consecutive setback when they open a three-game road trip by visiting the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday.

The Knicks were crushed 115-89 at home by the Orlando Magic on Sunday and rank in the bottom third of the NBA in scoring average (106.4 points) while sitting last in assists (19.1). "Sometimes holding it too much, not making shots. There's always two sides to getting assists," Fizdale told reporters. "Trust. Making the right play with the right timing. There's a lot of different factors. I don't think it's a selfish thing. We're not a selfish team at all. It's matter of timing, hitting guys when they're open and converting fast breaks when we have a 3-on-1, 3-on-2 opportunity, and not finishing those and making shots." The Thunder know how to finish a fast break and used a 22-0 run in the first quarter on Monday to open a lead and coast to a 118-101 victory over Phoenix. "As a group we sense the energy," Oklahoma City forward Paul George told reporters. "We were the more aggressive team. We just jumped on them. Once you get one stop, you get another. At that point we were just in a groove. We felt good out there."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, MSG (New York), FS Oklahoma Linea: Thunder -8.5

ABOUT THE KNICKS (4-10): While New York searches for an identity as a team, rookie center Mitchell Robinson is quickly developing his own identity as a defensive force. Robinson set a team rookie record with nine blocks in just 22 minutes on Sunday - his fourth consecutive game with multiple blocked shots. "I thank Coach. He put me in position to get those blocks," Robinson told reporters. "He was telling me to drop back and not to worry about my guy. Just go get him and meet him at the rim."

ABOUT THE THUNDER (8-5): Oklahoma City can afford to let superstar point guard Russell Westbrook take all the time he needs to recover from an ankle injury if it continues the level of play that saw it win eight of the last nine games - three of four without Westbrook. George matched a season high with 32 points on 11-of-19 shooting and hit a season-high six 3-pointers on Monday while coming up two rebounds shy of his third straight double-double. "It's a long year," George told reporters. "One game at a time. We're just trying to get better."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Knicks SG Tim Hardaway is 4-of-23 from 3-point range over the last three games.

2. Oklahoma City C Steven Adams went 9-of-13 from the floor on Monday and is shooting 60.3 percent on the season.

3. New York snapped a four-game losing streak in the series with a 111-96 home win in the most recent meeting on Dec. 12, 2017.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Minnesota Timberwolves Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NBA Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

The Minnesota Timberwolves are getting a fresh start and Karl-Anthony Towns is taking advantage. Towns will welcome a trio of new teammates and try to lead the Timberwolves to back-to-back wins when they host the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday.

Towns was the big winner of the trade that sent disgruntled swingman Jimmy Butler to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Robert Covington, Dario Saric and Jerryd Bayless, and he played like someone with a weight lifted off his shoulders in a 120-113 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Monday. The 22-year-old former No. 1 overall pick made up for 10 turnovers by scoring 25 points on 9-of-11 shooting and grabbing 21 rebounds in the victory. The Pelicans, who were reportedly involved in talks for Butler but refused to include guard Jrue Holiday in any potential deal, come in hot with wins in three straight after starting the road trip with a 126-110 victory over East-leading Toronto on Monday. "We played really good tonight and we beat them, but it's one game," New Orleans coach Alvin Gentry told reporters. "I'd like to say this is going to springboard us, but it's one game and they understand that, too. It's a good win for us on the road against a very good team."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ESPN, FS New Orleans, FS North (Minnesota) Linea: Timberwolves -2

ABOUT THE PELICANS (7-6): Holiday showed why New Orleans insisted he not be included in any deal when he collected 29 points on 12-of-19 shooting and 14 assists on Monday while taking part in a defensive effort that held Toronto's Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry and Danny Green to a combined 9-of-33 from the floor. "I think Jrue (Holiday) had a great floor game, and I thought he was fantastic defensively," Gentry told reporters. "If Kawhi goes 7-for-20, you've done an outstanding job on him because not only is he a great defender, but he is also a great scorer and great shooter, and I thought Jrue did a really good job on him." Holiday is averaging 23.2 points on 54.1 percent shooting and 10.8 assists over the last five games.

ABOUT THE TIMBERWOLVES (5-9): Covington, Saric and Bayless sat out on Monday, hours after the trade was finalized, but will practice with the team on Tuesday and are expected to be in uniform Wednesday. "We wanted quality players. That was important for us," Minnesota coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters. "(We get) two starters (Covington and Saric) off a team that won 52 games, and they're both young. ... Once we get to that point where we felt we were getting multiple rotational players, we felt it would be time to execute the deal." Saric, 24, got off to a slow start in 2018-19 after averaging 14.6 points in a breakout 2017-18 campaign while Covington, 27, is shooting 39 percent from 3-point range and was leading Philadelphia in steals (1.8) at the time of the trade.

BUZZER BEATERS

1.Pelicans PF Nikola Mirotic (ankle) sat out the last two games and is day-to-day.

2. Bayless (knee) has yet to make his season debut and is likely out at least another week.

3. Minnesota took all four meetings last season by an average of 13.3 points.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Milwaukee Bucks Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NBA Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

If Giannis Antetokounmpo is ever having an off night, at least the Milwaukee Bucks know they can lean on center Brook Lopez for some offensive fireworks. Lopez will try to follow up a record-setting performance and lead the Bucks to another win when they host the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.

Lopez scored a game-high 28 points and matched an NBA record for a seven-footer by making eight 3-pointers in a 121-114 win at Denver on Sunday that closed out a four-game West Coast road trip. "Man, it's a sight to see a big shoot like that," Milwaukee point guard Eric Bledsoe told reporters of Lopez, who knocked down 6-of-7 from beyond the arc in the third quarter alone. "It was exciting, man. Steph (Curry) and Klay (Thompson) look out." The Grizzlies will play four of their next six games on the road after suffering their first home loss, 96-88 to the Utah Jazz on Monday. "I always think that there's room for improvement in a lot of areas, offensively mainly," Memphis center Marc Gasol told reporters. "Offensively I don't think we are there yet, but we are working on it. Everybody has to bring things to work with one another."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS South (Memphis), FS Wisconsin (Milwaukee) Linea: Bucks -9.5

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (7-5): Small forward Kyle Anderson made a name for himself as a player willing to do the small things to help a team win when he was with the San Antonio Spurs, and he is displaying those same traits in his first season in Memphis. Anderson is averaging just 5.8 points but grabbed 13 rebounds in each of the last two contests and handed out a team-high five assists in Monday's setback. Anderson is helping to open things up for point guard Mike Conley, who averaged 28 points in the last two games.

ABOUT THE BUCKS (10-3): Milwaukee knocked off two of the top teams in the Western Conference on its just-completed trip - Golden State and Denver - and Antetokounmpo was impressed with the way his team battled. "We do not want to be a good team, we want to be a great team," Antetokounmpo told reporters. "Great teams, no matter what, come back. You've got to keep fighting, keep playing within your game plan and you hope things are going to work, you hope you can knock down shots and that's what we did." Antetokounmpo shot 58 percent on the road trip and is averaging 25.4 points, 13 rebounds and 5.8 assists.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Bucks PG Malcolm Brogdon scored 20 or more points in each of the last three games.

2. Grizzlies SF Omri Casspi (knee) sat out the last four games and remains day-to-day.

3. Antetokounmpo averaged 23.5 points in a pair of wins over Memphis last season.

Utah Jazz vs. Dallas Mavericks Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NBA Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

The Utah Jazz look to beat Dallas for the third time this season when they visit the Mavericks on Wednesday. The Jazz averaged 115 points while winning the first two meetings with center Rudy Gobert standing out with averages of 20 points, 13 rebounds and 3.5 blocked shots.

Utah has won three straight games and prevailed 96-88 on Monday against the Memphis Grizzlies in the opener of a five-game road trip. Jazz small forward Joe Ingles is averaging 23 points on 16-of-26 shooting over the past two games and has three 20-point outings this season. The Mavericks have won two consecutive games and three of their last four after posting a 103-98 road win over the Chicago Bulls on Monday. "We've had a lot of tough losses this year, times where we were close and just couldn't get over the hump, couldn't make the right play," Dallas small forward Harrison Barnes told reporters. "Things are finally starting to come together."

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Utah), FS Southwest (Dallas) Linea: Jazz -4.5

ABOUT THE JAZZ (7-6): Star guard Donovan Mitchell experienced his roughest outing of the campaign in the win over the Grizzlies as he tallied a season-low 12 points on 3-of-14 shooting. Ingles scored a team-high 19 points while Gobert continued his strong season with 15 points and 16 rebounds for his 12th double-double. Gobert is shooting an NBA-leading 72.1 percent from the field, has shot over 70 percent in seven different contests and is 16-for-22 in the two wins over Dallas.

ABOUT THE MAVERICKS (5-8): Rookie forward Luka Doncic tallied just 11 points on 3-of-12 shooting against the Bulls after averaging 23 points over the previous three games. "Sometimes, he's gonna have bad games," veteran point guard J.J. Barea told reporters. "He's still young, and he can't be great every game. So we've got to help him out." Barnes helped pick up the slack with a season-best 23 points - his first 20-point outing of the season - while Barea scored 14 for his third straight double-digit outing.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Jazz have won five straight and eight of the past nine meetings after posting a 117-102 win over the Mavericks on Nov. 7.

2. Dallas SG Wesley Matthews (hamstring) is expected to return after a one-game absence.

3. Utah PG Ricky Rubio is 5-of-22 shooting in the two meetings with the Mavericks.

Spurs vs. Suns Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

The San Antonio Spurs strive to emerge from a mini-funk when they visit the struggling Phoenix Suns on Wednesday. San Antonio has dropped three of its last four games, including Monday's 104-99 setback against the Sacramento Kings in the opener of a three-game trek.

Shooting guard DeMar DeRozan continues to fit in well with the Spurs and had 23 points against Sacramento for his ninth 20-point outing of the campaign. "We got to move on from it and bounce back," DeRozan told reporters of the loss to the Kings. "We've got a game in Phoenix, and we have to understand it's early in the season. We have to understand that we got to keep stepping up and understand what we got to do to close out these games, especially on the road." The Suns have lost four consecutive games and first-year coach Igor Kokoskov was distressed with the team's slow start in Monday's 118-101 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. "The way we opened the game, no presence, no life whatsoever," Kokoskov told reporters. "We were behind 20 points in the first quarter. That's hard. It put us in a situation that we have to compete and play the whole game and every possession has got to be perfect. You're looking for that spark, looking for that energy to bring us back in the game."

TV: 9 p.m. ET, FS Southwest (San Antonio), FS Arizona Linea: Spurs -5

ABOUT THE SPURS (7-5): San Antonio suffered defensive lapses during the loss to the Kings as Sacramento made 50 percent of its field-goal attempts while connecting on 11-of-24 3-pointers and power forward LaMarcus Aldridge wanted nothing to do with any talk that the players are still getting to know each other. "Just got to know who you are guarding," Aldridge told reporters. "You have to come mentally prepared to do better. I don't think that's about getting to know each other. That's about knowing the game plan and executing it." Veteran small forward Rudy Gay (heel) returned from a three-game absence and had 14 points and nine rebounds in 21 minutes.

ABOUT THE SUNS (2-11): Phoenix is losing by an average of 16.5 points during its skid and is allowing opponents to shoot 48.9 percent on the season, which is next-to-last in the NBA. A bright spot has been the play of small forward TJ Warren, who is averaging 25 points over the past three games and has knocked down 20 3-pointers to match last season's total. "He's a crafty scorer," forward Trevor Ariza told reporters. "He finds a way to put the ball in the basket. I don't expect anything different. That's just who he is."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Spurs recorded a 120-90 victory over the Suns on Oct. 31 for their 14th win in the past 15 meetings.

2. Phoenix SG Devin Booker is averaging just 15.5 points on 11-of-30 shooting over the past two games.

3. San Antonio C Pau Gasol (foot) will miss his fourth consecutive contest.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Los Angeles Lakers Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NBA Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

The Los Angeles Lakers ended their 16-game losing streak against Portland earlier this month and now look to defeat the visiting Trail Blazers again on Wednesday. This time around, Los Angeles aims to halt a nine-game home slide against Portland with its last win at Staples Center occurring on Feb. 22, 2013.

Portland just concluded a 5-1 homestand - the lone setback was to the Lakers - and now embarks on a six-game road trip that concludes against the Golden State Warriors on Nov. 23. Star point guard Damian Lillard missed Tuesday's practice with a sore right knee but is expected to play against Los Angeles. The Trail Blazers have won four straight games while the Lakers have posted three straight wins after edging the Atlanta Hawks 107-106 on Sunday. Overall, Los Angeles has won five of its last six games with the most impressive win being the 114-110 triumph in Portland on Nov. 3.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, ESPN, Spectrum SportsNet (Los Angeles) Linea: Lakers -3

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (10-3): Lillard, who is averaging 26 points per game, was injured during Monday's 100-94 win over the Boston Celtics - a victory that he feels personifies the club's hot start. "I liked the way we've done it," Lillard told reporters. "I think it's been by committee, everybody's been pretty consistent and we've been sharp. ... We're doing the things we need to do to win games and we're doing it consistently." Backcourt mate CJ McCollum scored just 14 points against Boston after averaging 27.3 points over the previous four outings.

ABOUT THE LAKERS (7-6): Veteran center Tyson Chandler has provided toughness, defense and rebounding in three games since joining the club and his biggest contribution was blocking the last-second shot by Atlanta's Trae Young in Sunday's victory. "For him to be playing winning basketball once again, I think those emotions just came out," forward LeBron James told reporters after Chandler and the Lakers enjoyed a raucous celebration. "To make a game-winning block like that -- you don't see that much in our league." Chandler is teaming up with JaVale McGee, who has been surprisingly good in the early stages of the season by averaging 13.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and three blocked shots.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Portland split two home contests with the Lakers earlier this season, including a 128-119 season-opening victory on Oct. 18.

St. Louis Blues vs. Chicago Blackhawks Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NHL Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

The St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks are far removed from the days when the bitter rivals were routinely battling for supremacy in the Central Division. As the teams prepare to meet for the fourth time this season Wednesday night in Chicago, the Blues are sitting in last place in the division - one point behind the skidding Blackhawks.

A change behind the bench has done nothing to reverse the sagging fortunes of Chicago, which has lost eight in a row (0-6-2) and dropped all three games under new coach Jeremy Colliton. "When you're in a losing streak, it's hard to get out of it," Colliton told reporters after Tuesday's practice. "You need a couple breaks, but often you don't get them. You got to make your own breaks. And we're close. Once we break through, that tide will turn and we can go on a run." St. Louis got off to a dismal start with seven losses in its first nine games, including a pair of overtime defeats to the Blackhawks, but it has won four of six starting with a 7-3 thrashing of Chicago. "We've been winning some games this last little stretch," Blues coach Mike Yeo told reporters after Sunday's 3-2 home loss to Minnesota. "Unfortunately, when you dig yourself into a hole the way that we did, every loss really hurts."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network

ABOUT THE BLUES (6-6-3): The loss to the Wild denied St. Louis its first three-game winning streak of the season and also marked the team's sixth one-goal defeat in 15 games. "We gotta keep learning from this," Yeo told the media. "Everybody's sick of losing. So it's just a matter of doing what it takes to win hockey games. At a certain point, you can't just keep saying, hey, we're getting closer. Or we're getting better. At a certain point we gotta find a way to win these games that are there for you." Center Ryan O'Reilly has eight goals and nine assists during a career-high 10-game point streak.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (6-8-4): Chicago picked up its first point since Colliton replaced Joel Quenneville, but it coughed up a two-goal lead in the 3-2 overtime loss at Carolina on Monday and has scored 14 goals during the eight-game skid. "Just the way things are going right now that we didn't find a way to get up a few more goals or two," said captain Jonathan Toews, who is tied with Alex DeBrincat for second on the team with nine goals after both scored Monday. Toews has three goals and an assist and DeBrincat boasts four points in the three games versus the Blues this season.

OVERTIME

1. Blackhawks F Brandon Saad (arm) could rejoin the lineup after missing the past two games.

2. Blues F Vladimir Tarasenko has 18 goals and 28 points in 26 career games versus Chicago.

3. Chicago put F Marcus Kruger on injured reserve and recalled D Gustav Forsling from Rockford of the American Hockey League.

PREDICTION: Blues 4, Blackhawks 3

Washington Capitals vs. Winnipeg Jets Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NHL Predictions 14th November 2018 by Gracenote
Capitals vs. Jets Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 11/14/2018

Blake Wheeler has been red-hot for the Winnipeg Jets, recording multiple points in each of his last four games and at least one in 10 straight. The 32-year-old captain hopes to continue his torrid pace when the Jets host the reigning Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals on Wednesday.

Wheeler has collected two goals and 17 assists during his streak and leads Winnipeg with 23 points. He has netted one tally and set up 11 others in his last four contests - a span that includes a career-best five-point performance in a 5-2 home triumph over Colorado on Friday. The Jets posted an identical victory over visiting New Jersey on Sunday and look for a similar outcome against Washington, which avoided a three-game slide with Tuesday's 5-2 win at Minnesota in the opener of its four-game road trip. Defenseman Dmitry Orlov recorded two goals and an assist while Tom Wilson tallied in his season debut after having his 20-game suspension reduced to 14 earlier in the day.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, TVA, NBCS Washington Plus, Sportsnet (Winnipeg)

ABOUT THE CAPITALS (8-6-3): After having his six-game point streak halted by Arizona on Sunday, Evgeny Kuznetsov recorded an assist versus the Wild to reach 200 for his career. Andre Burakovsky, who registered just one goal and one assist in his first 16 contests this season, doubled both totals in Tuesday's victory. Nicklas Backstrom set up a tally against Minnesota, giving him two goals and five assists during his six-game point streak.

ABOUT THE JETS (10-5-1): Wheeler earned the NHL's Second Star of the Week honors after notching seven points in only two games. The veteran right wing, who is the first member of the franchise to record five points in a contest since Ilya Kovalchuk in 2009, joined Wayne Gretzky as the only players in NHL history to register an assist on nine straight team goals before scoring an empty-netter against the Avalanche. Mark Scheifele also has been wielding a hot stick, recording back-to-back three-point performances to give him seven goals and eight assists in his last nine contests.

OVERTIME

1. Jets D Dustin Byfuglien is riding a six-game point streak during which he has collected a goal and seven assists.

2. Orlov, who notched only two points in his first 16 games this season, is three assists shy of 100 for his career.

3. Winnipeg rookie LW Brendan Lemieux, the son of former NHL star Claude Lemieux, is eligible to return to the lineup after serving a two-game suspension for a high hit on Florida's Vincent Trocheck.

PREDICTION: Jets 3, Capitals 2

Boston Bruins vs. Colorado Avalanche Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NHL Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

There does not figure to be any shortage of offense when the Boston Bruins kick off a four-game road trip at the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night. Boston has the NHL's top goal scorer in red-hot David Pastrnak while Colorado's Mikko Rantanen leads the league in overall scoring, and through Monday's games the teams featured the top four point-getters.

Pastrnak admitted to some lofty aspirations after he was named the NHL's First Star of the Week, scoring five times in four games to boost his season total to 16 goals in 17 games. "I would obviously love to hit 50 goals at some point in my career. It's just a question of work," Pastrnak told reporters. "It's my strength, you know? That's what kind of player I am. I'm here to score goals. That's how I help the team." Colorado ended a five-game slide (0-4-1) with a 4-1 win at Edmonton on Sunday as Rantanen scored one goal and set up another while Nathan MacKinnon collected a pair of assists. The Avalanche have won the past three meetings between the teams and outscored the Bruins 10-3 in a two-game series sweep last season.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), Altitude (Colorado)

ABOUT THE BRUINS (10-5-2): Goaltender Tuukka Rask rejoined the team following a leave of absence that caused him to miss two games, but Jaroslav Halak will make his fourth consecutive start for Boston. Rask admitted he has been outplayed by Halak, who bounced back from a rocky performance against Vancouver to limit Toronto and Vegas to one goal apiece. "We knew he'd be solid. He's certainly exceeded expectations, and it's what is required right now," coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters. "He's getting lots of starts, guys are confident in front of him and we're starting to understand how he is."

ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (8-6-3): Semyon Varlamov will be in net after giving Colorado a big lift with his 26-save performance in Edmonton that also halted a personal five-start losing streak. Tyson Barrie hit a pair of milestones against the Oilers, scoring his 62nd goal to tie Rob Blake for third among defensemen on the franchise's all-time list and notching an assist for the 200th of his career. "That one is cool because Blakey was my favorite defenseman growing up, and I wore No. 4 because of him," Barrie told reporters. "I ended up playing for Colorado, so fairy book ending for me."

OVERTIME

1. Pastrnak has two goals and an assist in six career games versus Colorado.

2. Rantanen has been limited to two assists in five games against Boston.

3. Bruins C Patrice Bergeron has two goals and four assists during a four-game point streak.

PREDICTION: Avalanche 5, Bruins 4

Anaheim Ducks vs. Vegas Golden Knights Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NHL Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

The Vegas Golden Knights ended the Anaheim Ducks' five-year reign as Pacific Division champions last season in their inaugural campaign, but both teams are struggling to find their form as they prepare to meet for the second time on Wednesday night in Las Vegas. The Golden Knights have won four of five all-time meetings, including a 3-1 victory at home on Oct. 20.

Vegas has labored away from home and wrapped up a four-game trek with a 4-1 setback at Boston on Sunday to fall to 3-8-0 on the road. "Just not enough fire," Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant told reporters. "We need a little more fire in our game, a little more energy out there. We play OK, but not good enough." Anaheim has alternated wins and losses since a seven-game slide (0-5-2) but is coming off a 2-1 shootout victory over league-best Nashville on Monday - handing the Predators their first road loss of the season. "It was a great test for us, especially playing against those guys," Ducks forward Rickard Rakell told reporters. "It shows we can play with any team in this league."

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network

ABOUT THE DUCKS (8-8-3): Anaheim could be short-handed on the blue line due to the uncertain status of defenseman Cam Fowler, who did not practice Tuesday and was undergoing tests after taking a puck off the cheek area later in Monday's game. Forward Ondrej Kase, a 20-goal scorer in 2017-18 who has been sidelined with a concussion suffered in the preseason finale, had four shots on goal in his season debut against Nashville. Captain Ryan Getzlaf, who notched the team's lone regulation tally Monday, has registered four goals and five assists in his last eight games.

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (7-10-1): Vegas is getting next to nothing out of its current third line of Tomas Nosek, Ryan Carpenter and Tomas Hyka, who have combined for one goal and five assists on the season. While injuries have led to the grouping, Nosek and Carpenter own the worst plus-minus ratings in the league at minus-14 and 13, respectively. "You can't make excuses," Carpenter told reporters. "No matter who you're playing with on a line, you want to play the same way as a team. It really shouldn't matter. We're just going to keep working hard and hopefully it starts clicking."

OVERTIME

1. Ducks G John Gibson is 1-3-1 with 12 goals allowed in five appearances against Vegas.

2. Golden Knights G Marc-Andre Fleury is 10-4-0 with a 2.22 goals-against average versus Anaheim.

3. The Ducks recalled D Andy Welinski from San Diego of the American Hockey League.

PREDICTION: Golden Knights 3, Ducks 2

Michigan Wolverines vs. Villanova Wildcats Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NCAAB Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

Villanova and Michigan are ready for their national championship rematch, but most of the familiar faces from that April showdown have moved on to the professional ranks. Still, there will be excitement in the air when the eighth-ranked Wildcats host the 18th-ranked Wolverines on Wednesday as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games.

In last season's NCAA Tournamen title game, the Wildcats topped the Wolverines 79-62 for their second championship in three years, but seven of the 11 players who logged over 20 minutes in that game will not be playing Wednesday. "We weren't thinking about Wednesday coming into this game. We were thinking about Quinnipiac," senior guard Phil Booth said after Saturday's 33-point win. "That was our main focus. Now it's time to get ready for Michigan." As for the Wolverines' returning players, that feeling of coming up empty on the biggest stage is one that will stay with them forever. "I'm still not over it," Jordan Poole said earlier this month. "Being able to have that opportunity right there in our hands and have it separated is a feeling that you won't forget."

TV: 6:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

ABOUT MICHIGAN (2-0): The Wolverines have won their first two games by 19 points and have allowed a total of 81 points in the process. Only two teams in the nation are allowing fewer points on average than Michigan, which actually trailed Holy Cross 24-18 at halftime on Saturday before outscoring the Crusaders 38-13 in the second half. Charles Matthews led the way with 20 points, while Ignas Brazdeikis notched 19 in his second career game - and the duo is averaging a combined 30.5 points so far on the young season.

ABOUT VILLANOVA (2-0): The Wildcats are getting a combined 38.5 points out of senior stars Booth and Eric Paschall thus far, while they have made 24 3-pointers as a team. Paschall, who attempted 2.5 free throws per game last season, has reached the foul line 17 times through two games, while Booth has nine assists against one turnover through two outings. Joe Cremo and Collin Gillespie each have a team-high five 3-pointers for the Wildcats, who have attempted 69 shots from behind the arc in the first two contests.

TIP-INS

1. Villanova F Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree has registered three blocks in each game and has made 5-of-7 shots while pulling down 12 rebounds in 36 minutes.

2. Matthews only had six points in last season's title game, missing both of his 3-point attempts and all four of his free throws.

3. Michigan G Zavier Simpson went scoreless in 28 minutes versus Holy Cross and is 1-of-7 from the field this season.

PREDICTION: Villanova 73, Michigan 70

Seton Hall Pirates vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NCAAB Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

After some early season blowouts, No. 25 Nebraska and visiting Seton Hall should finally be tested when they meet Wednesday as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games. The Cornhuskers have won their two contests by a total of 121 points while the Pirates have a 40-point win to their credit.

The backcourt will be the center of attention on both ends of the floor as Seton Hall's Myles Powell goes up against the duo Glynn Watson, Jr. and James Palmer, Jr. of Nebraska. Now the star of the show following the departure of Angel Delgado, Khadeen Carrington and Desi Rodriguez, Powell did not disappoint in the season opener, dropping 30 points and five 3-pointers as the Pirates easily handled Wagner. Three years of hard work paid off last year for Watson as the Cornhuskers posted their first winning season since 2013-14 and all that is left is to play in the NCAA Tournament. "I hope we can exceed expectations because there's nobody that deserves it more than Glynn," coach Tim Miles told the media." We really have guys that I think have a lot of talent and can carry a team."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, Big Ten Network

ABOUT SETON HALL (1-0): With the departure of the big three and defensive specialist Ismael Sanogo, senior Michael Nzei is now expected to provide scoring and rebounding for the coach Kevin Willard. The 6-8 forward from Nigeria, who has never averaged better than 4.3 points and 3.9 rebounds in his previous three seasons, opened with 11 points and seven rebounds against Wagner. Nzei will be joined in the frontcourt by the likes of sophomore forwards Taurean Thompson and Sandro Mamukelashvili, and freshman center Romaro Gill.

ABOUT NEBRASKA (2-0): Palmer is coming off a season in which he earned All-Big Ten first-team honors by averaging 17.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists. The senior from Upper Marlboro, Md., scored 568 points a season ago, more than double the amount he had in two seasons at Miami (Fla.). Freshman forward Brady Heiman made an impact in his first two college games with a combined 19 points and 18 rebounds but now that the competition is increasing, he will likely cede minutes to more experienced frontcourt mates Isaac Copeland, a senior, and junior Isaiah Roby.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. The Cornhuskers have dropped seven straight games against Big East opponents, including five losses to Creighton, but have never faced the Pirates.

2. Nebraska, which hasn't won a regular season conference title since 1950, is the only team from a Power Five conference that has never won an NCAA Tournament game.

3. Powell, a junior who moved into 50th place on Seton Hall's all-time scoring list, is 91 points shy of 1,000 for his career.

PREDICTION: Nebraska 69, Seton Hall 66

Marquette Golden Eagles vs. Indiana Hoosiers Preview and Predictions 11-14-2018

NCAAB Predictions 13th November 2018 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 11/13/2018

After throttling Montana State, Indiana faces a more formidable challenge Wednesday night at home against Marquette. The matchup between Big Ten and Big East title contenders is part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games.

Indiana's defense suffocated Montana State in the 80-35 blowout Friday, holding the Bobcats to the fewest points by an opponent at Assembly Hall since a 94-29 win over Notre Dame on Dec. 18, 1971. Indiana forced Montana State into 25 turnovers and 25.5 percent shooting from the field. But no one expects the proceedings to be that easy against Marquette, which is led by the preseason All-Big East duo of Markus Howard and Sam Hauser. "We have to be ready to play the hardest we've ever played starting next week, and that will be a great test for us on Wednesday," Indiana coach Archie Miller told reporters.

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

ABOUT INDIANA (2-0): Romeo Langford already is establishing himself as one of the best freshmen in the country, leading the Hoosiers in scoring at 15.5 points per game and shooting 60 percent from the floor. Senior forward Juwan Morgan has also played well, averaging 11.5 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 66.7 percent from the field. He finished with his 10th career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds against Montana State.

ABOUT MARQUETTE (2-0): The Golden Eagles, picked to finish second in the Big East behind Villanova in the preseason coaches poll, are led by Howard, the Big East Player of the Week whose 37 points in a 92-59 beatdown of Bethune-Cookman on Saturday were the most at home by a Marquette player in 12 years. In the team's wins over Bethune-Cookman and Maryland-Baltimore County, he's averaging 26.0 points 8.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists while Hauser contributes 12.5 points and 6.0 rebounds. The defense has proved to be an ally in Marquette's two wins, limiting opponents to 26 percent shooting from the floor and 19.1 percent from 3-point range while forcing an average of 14 turnovers and blocking 16 shots.

TIP-INS

1. Morgan and Indiana sophomore Justin Smith combined to make 12 of 14 shots from the field and score 27 points against Montana State.

2. Indiana has several players dealing with injuries, including Devonte Green (thigh contusion), Zach McRoberts (lower back strain), Race Thompson (concussion symptoms) and Jerome Hunter, who is out indefinitely with a leg condition.

3. Howard, Langford and Morgan are among the 50 elite players on the preseason Wooden Award Watch List.

PREDICTION: Indiana 82, Marquette 76

Game of the Night: Blazers at Lakers – 10:35 PM EST – ESPN

Both these Western Conference squads are hitting their stride as Portland and Los Angeles meet up for the third time this season. The Blazers (10-3 SU, 10-3 ATS) sit atop the Northwest division after winning seven of its previous eight games to leap-frog Denver for the top spot. Portland finished off a 5-1 homestand by holding off Boston, 100-94 as two-point favorites on Sunday as Damian Lillard paced the Blazers with 19 points and 12 assists.

The Lakers (7-6 SU, 4-9 ATS) have overcome a slow 2-5 start by posting a 5-1 record the last six games to sneak above the .500 mark. LeBron James led Los Angeles with 26 points and the go-ahead dunk in the final seconds of Sunday’s narrow 107-106 home triumph over Atlanta, but the Lakers failed to cash as 11 ½-point favorites. The Lakers have won four of their last five games at Staples Center after starting 0-2 at home, while the Purple and Gold have cashed the UNDER in six straight contests.

The Blazers captured the first matchup of the season by spoiling James’ debut with the Lakers on opening night at the Moda Center, 128-119. Portland cashed as three-point favorites in a back-and-forth game that saw L.A. convert only 7-of-30 three-point attempts. The Lakers rebounded in the second meeting on November 3 in Portland with a 114-110 triumph as 3 ½-point underdogs, highlighted by a 32-16 third quarter to overcome a one-point halftime deficit.

The Butler Will Do It

Following a month of “Will He or Won’t He Get Traded,” the Wolves finally pulled the plug on Jimmy Butler’s time in Minnesota and traded the disgruntled swingman to Philadelphia. The 76ers (9-6 SU, 6-9 ATS) are lining themselves up to be a threat to win the Eastern Conference along with the Celtics, Raptors, and Bucks.

Butler is expected to suit up for the Sixers as they wrap up their three-game road trip in Orlando. Philadelphia rebounded from a late meltdown in an overtime loss at Memphis to defeat Miami on Monday, 124-114 as 2 ½-point underdogs. Joel Embiid dominated in the middle for Philadelphia by scoring 35 points and pulling down 18 rebounds, while the 76ers knocked down 15 three-pointers. The victory was only the second in eight opportunities away from Wells Fargo Center, while the 76ers own an 0-2 SU/AT mark in the role of a road favorite.

The Magic (6-8 SU, 6-8 ATS) have come back to life after beginning the season at 2-6 by winning four of their past six games. Orlando and Washington matched each other point for point through three quarters on Monday before the Wizards pulled away for a 117-109 victory to grab the narrow cover as 8 ½-point favorites. The Magic cashed as hefty 12 ½-point underdogs at Philadelphia on October 20 in a 116-115 setback, as Evan Fournier dropped in six treys and scored 31 points for Orlando.

You Again?

By the time mid-November hits, the Jazz (7-6 SU, 7-6 ATS) will have played the Grizzlies and Mavericks each three times. Utah finally beat Memphis for the first time in three tries on Monday as a short road favorite, while the Jazz seek their third victory over the Mavericks on Wednesday. In the first matchup at American Airlines Center on October 28, the Jazz held off the Mavs, 113-104 to cash as 4 ½-point favorites, led by Rudy Gobert’s double-double (23 points, 16 rebounds).

In the second meeting in Salt Lake City last Wednesday, Utah halted a four-game slide by blasting Dallas, 117-102 to cover as 9 ½-point favorites. Utah improved to 8-1 in the past nine meetings with Dallas since the start of the 2016-17 season, including five straight wins at home.

Now, the Mavericks (5-8 SU, 8-5 ATS) return to the Lone Star State after picking up their first road win in seven tries this season at Chicago on Monday. Dallas has won four of six contests at American Airlines Center, including recent double-digit victories over Oklahoma City and Washington. The Mavs have also cashed in four of six opportunities as an underdog, while seeking their first three-game winning streak of the season.

Strap it Up

The Spurs (7-5 SU, 6-6 ATS) had won 19 of their previous meetings with the Kings before getting tripped up at Sacramento on Monday as short favorites. Now, San Antonio continues its road trip at Phoenix, looking to beat the Suns for the second time this season. In the first matchup at Talking Stick Resort Arena on Halloween night, the Spurs rolled the Suns, 120-90 as 6 ½-point favorites, as DeMar DeRozan knocked down 10-of-12 shots to pace San Antonio with 25 points.

The Suns (2-11 SU, 5-8 ATS) are back in the Valley following back-to-back road double-digit losses at New Orleans and Oklahoma City. Phoenix has dropped four straight overall, but has covered in three of its previous four home contests, including ATS victories in losses to Boston and Toronto. The Suns have finished UNDER the total in four of the last five home games, while the Spurs have gone UNDER in five of the past six games overall.

Double-Digit Home Favorite Traps?

(Part I)

The Celtics (7-6 SU, 4-9 ATS) have been one of the worst teams to back through the first month of the season. Boston stumbled on its recent road trip by losing four of five games with the only victory coming at Phoenix after the Celtics trailed by 22. The C’s failed to cash in all five road contests, including three losses as an underdog at Denver, Utah, and Portland. Boston returns home to host Chicago as a heavy favorite, as the Celtics own an 0-4 ATS record as chalk of eight points or more.

The Bulls (4-10 SU, 8-6 ATS) begin a rough stretch the next four days by heading to Boston tonight, Milwaukee on Friday, and hosting Toronto on Saturday. Chicago has scored less than 100 points in four of the past five games, while hitting the UNDER in six of the previous seven contests. The Bulls have covered in three straight road games, including as an 11-point underdog at New Orleans on November 7.

(Part II)

The Bucks (10-3 SU, 8-4-1 ATS) put their 6-0 home record on the line as the Grizzlies make their first visit to Fiserv Forum. Milwaukee split its four-game road trip as the Bucks lost in both favorite opportunities to the Blazers and Clippers, but shocked the Warriors and Nuggets as underdogs. Playing in the brand new Fiserv Forum, the Bucks have thrived as not only are their unbeaten but have won every home game by 11 points or more.

The Grizzlies (7-5 SU, 7-5 ATS) suffered their first home loss of the season on Monday against Utah, halting a two-game winning streak. Memphis has lost three of its past four road contests, including a 117-101 defeat at Golden State on November 5. The Grizzlies were swept by the Bucks last season, while losing four of the past five meetings with the last win in Milwaukee coming in January 2014.

Villanova beat Michigan 79-62 in national title game seven months ago; Wildcats hammered a couple of stiffs to start this season, winning by 23-33 points. Villanova starts two sophs, three seniors- they took 32 3’s, 36 2’s in their last game, vs Quinnipiac. Michigan allowed 40.5 ppg in winning its first two games, by 19 points each. Wolverines start only one senior- they made 20% of their 3’s in first two games. Last 3+ years, Big 14 teams are 28-26-1 vs spread when playing Big East teams, 15-11-1 when an underdog.

Road team won both Toledo-Wright State games last two years; Rockets won 82-78 here in 2016, lost 77-69 at home LY. Toledo won its opener 87-86 at Oakland after trailing by 14 in first half; Rockets forced only three turnovers (-10) but outscored the hosts 21-13 on foul line. Toledo starts two juniors, two seniors- they whacked a stiff in their 2nd game. WSU split its first two games, losing by 19 at Murray State in last game Saturday. Raiders start two sophs, two juniors. Last 3+ years, Horizon teams are 27-39 vs spread when playing MAC opponents.

Boston College is 2-0 but didn’t lead either game at halftime; they were +30/+5 in second half of those games. Eagles played four starters 36:00+ in Sunday’s 74-69 win over St Francis, which is a red flag- not much depth. Six of their 10 guys are frosh/sophs. IUPUI lost by 13 at Xavier (was only 37-34 at half) in its opener, before beating Eastern Illinois last game; Jaguars start two juniors, two seniors. Last 3+ years, ACC teams are 10-6 vs spread when playing a Horizon team.

Florida split couple of routs to open season; they lost by 21 at Florida State, then beat Charleston Southern by by 30- hard to tell much that way. Gators three seniors, one junior- they’ve forced turnovers on 24.4% of possessions in two games, which is good. LaSalle allowed 76 ppg in losing its first two games, losing 77-76 at home to Lafayette in its last game, a bad loss. Explorers start three sophs and a junior; they took 31 3’s, 30 2’s vs Lafayette. Last 3+ years, A-14 teams are 14-12-1 vs spread when playing SEC opponents.

Seton Hall beat a stiff by 40 in its opener; Pirates start two sophs, two juniors after going 22-12 LY and winning game in NCAA’s. Nebraska absolutely crushed couple stiffs to open their year, holding both teams under 40 points, but now that they’re playing a team that can compete with them, how do they react? Huskers start three seniors, one junior- they went 22-11 LY and made NIT. Last three years, Big 14 teams are 28-26-1 vs spread when playing Big East teams, 13-15 when favored.

Oklahoma State lost its opener by hoop in Charlotte after leading by 24 with 12:16 left, not the best way to start your season; Cowboys start two frosh, three juniors- thats a tough loss to bounce back from. Tex-San Antonio lost its opener to an NAIA team, then lost by 20 at home to Oklahoma; Roadrunners start three juniors and a senior- they’ve turned ball over 25.1% of the time so far, which is bad. Last three years, Big X teams are 9-7 vs spread when playing C-USA squads.

Crosstown rivals Houston/Rice are playing for first time in four years; Cougars won last four meetings, by 22-5-2-11 points. Rice split couple of D-I games so far this season; they lost by 16 at Penn, beat Alabama State by 14 at home. Owls start only one senior; 5 of their 10 guys are frosh. Houston beat a stiff by 47 to start the season; Cougars start three seniors- they made 15-30 on arc in the opener. Houston has three starters back from a 27-8 team; their front court is the ??? Last 3+ years, AAC teams are 10-11 vs spread when playing a C-USA opponent.

Marquette lost nine of its last 11 games vs Big 14 teams, with 7 of 9 losses by 11+ points- both wins were vs in-state Wisconsin. Eagles allowed 50.5 ppg in winning first two games this year by 25-33 points over couple stiffs. Marquette made 14-27 on arc last game; they start three juniors- their three seniors are all subs. Indiana crushed couple of stiffs to start the season; Hoosiers start two frosh and a soph. Last three years, Big 14 teams are 28-26-1 vs spread when playing Big East teams, 13-15 when favored.

Arizona won its first two games this year by 30-21 points; they’ve got lot of new guys after the recent NCAA issues. Wildcats are off to Maui Classic after this game. UTEP lost its first D-I game by 27 at New Mexico State and two starters played whole 40:00, which is a bad sign. Miners have new coach; they started two frosh, two sophs- none of their subs played 10+ minutes. Last 3+ years, Pac-12 teams are 5-5 vs spread when playing C-USA teams.

Still hard to believe Loyola IL was in Final Four LY; Ramblers split their first two games this year, losing at home at buzzer to Furman in last game, after blowing 13-point lead with 13:08 left to play. Loyola starts three starters, two seniors- they were 3-20 on arc, 15-25 on line in loss to Furman. Last 3+ years, MAAC teams are 4-2-1 vs spread when playing MVC teams.

Northern Arizona split its first two games, beating Jacksonville, then pushing spread in 90-74 loss at South Dakota; Lumberjacks are 20-78 the last 3+ years- they don’t play any seniors, starting two sophs, two juniors. Omaha lost its opener by 26 at Minnesota, then hammered a stiff last game; start two juniors, two seniors, are picked to finish near bottom of Summit League despite having four starters back from LY’s 9-22 team. Last 3+ years, Big Sky teams are 19-19-1 vs spread when playing a Summit opponent.

Bradley won its first D-I game by 11 over SE Missouri State, in brickfest where teams combined to make 12-46 on arc; Braves have four starters back from LY, when they won 20+ games for first time in eight years- they start three juniors, one senior, are picked to finish 4th in MVC. Jacksonville State lost its first two games by 20-15 points; they lost by 15 at Penn State, in a game where PSU pulled away in last 10:00. Gamecocks start four seniors and a junior, so their 0-2 start is disappointing. Last 3+ years, OVC teams are 19-16 vs spread when playing MVC foes.

Colorado State has a new coach after lot of drama LY; Rams lost three starters from LY’s 11-21 team- they start three juniors and a senior. CSU made 12-23 on arc in 92-67 win over a stiff in their first D-I game. Montana State lost its first two games by 30-45 points to Indiana/Utah State, then beat up on an NAIA team last game; Bobcats start two juniors, two seniors- they’re picked to finish in middle of Big Sky pack. This week's NHL betting predictions and picks

Alexander Ovechkin and the Caps take on Blake Wheeler and the Jets in what should be a high-scoring game. We cover this game and much more in our NHL betting cheat sheet with need-to-know betting notes, goalie profiles and injury news to help you crack the NHL odds for the early week matchups.

Extra Attackers

The Jets and Capitals meet up at the MTS Place on Wednesday night in a game everyone is expecting to soar over the number. These two teams are first and second in the NHL in power play percentage and have some of the best players in the game suiting up, including Alexander Ovechkin and Patrik Laine. The Over is 36-10-6 for Washington against the Central Division and 6-2-1 against teams with a winning record. Add in the fact that the Capitals are likely to start Pheonix Copley between the pipes with the strong likelihood that these sides score on the power play, and this looks to be an easy Over.

Flaming Out

The Flames host the Montreal Canadians on Thursday night, in a game that figures to be low scoring. Calgary ranks fourth in the NHL in shots allowed per game and faces a Montreal side without a ton of threats in the offensive zone. Montreal has done a great job of keeping the puck away from their goaltenders. They are sixth in the league in shots allowed per game and with Carey Price in goal the few that do come close will have to be special. Montreal is 4-1 to the Under in their last five games against the West, while the Flames rank 17th in the NHL in goals per game. All things considered, this looks like a safe Under play.

Goalie Profile

The Boston Bruins head to Colorado on Wednesday night looking to continue their hot start but will face off against one of the best goalies in the NHL so far this season – Semyon Varlamov. The Russian netminder is 5-5-2 so far this season but has a sparkling 2.26 GAA and .930 save percentage ranking him among the best in the league. The Avs are coming off a 4-1 win against Edmonton and face off against a Bruins side that ranks third in the NHL in goals allowed. With Varlamov starting against Tuukka Rask it looks like an Under.

Injury Update

Mats Zuccarello has become a key part of the Rangers offense and his absence could impact the total and side bets of New York games for the near future. Zuccarello was out on Monday against Vancouver and his status is worth monitoring in the coming days leading up to the Rangers matchup with the Islanders. The Islanders have revamped their style of play and have focused on the defensive side of things since they lost John Tavares, ranking fourth in the NHL in goals against. Zuccarello has 10 points in 15 games so far this season and if he is unable to go against the Isles look for the Brooklyn crowd to head home happy.

Hat trick trends

Capitals are 7-0 in their last seven meetings with Minnesota and 4-0 in their last four trips to Minnesota.
Arizona Coyotes are 3-8 in their last 11 trips to Detroit and are expected to start Darcy Kuemper. Without Antti Raanta playing the Coyotes are a tough sell against anybody.
Oilers are 7-2 in their last nine against Montreal and have lost four games in a row overall. Take this into consideration when thinking about the Habs as a road dog.

Wednesday's MAC Action
Brian Edwards

Bettors have more mid-week MACtion on tap with Wednesday’s doubleheader. Let's break down both contests before exploring some national topics in Bonus Nuggets below.

**Buffalo at Ohio**

-- As of early this morning, most betting shops had Ohio (6-4 straight up, 6-4 against the spread) installed as a two-point home favorite with a total of 66. The Bulls were +110 on the money line (risk $100 to win $110).

-- Ohio is undefeated in four home games with a 3-1 spread record. Frank Solich’s 14th team in Athens saw its three-game winning streak snapped in last week’s 30-28 loss at Miami (OH.) as a 4.5-point road favorite. The 58 combined points slithered ‘under’ the 59-point total. After scoring on Maleek Irons’ three-yard TD run to draw first blood last Tuesday in Athens, the RedHawks scored 28 unanswered points to take a 21-point lead into intermission. Ohio would rally, however, trimming the deficit to 14 on Nathan Rourke’s nine-yard TD pass to Papi White with 2:32 left in the third quarter. Then with 9:14 remaining, the Bobcats blocked a punt that was scooped up by Dylan Connor and returned 28 yards for a score. Ohio was buried deep at its own 1-yard line and three players later, Miami’s Doug Costin sacked Rourke for a safety. The Bobcats would get the ball back and get to within 30-28 on Rourke’s 18-yard scoring strike Andrew Meyer. After a stop, Ohio got to Miami’s 45 but Rourke’s Hail Mary on the games final play was unanswered.

-- Ohio’s stretch of four consecutive covers also came to an end. Even worse, the Bobcats’ MAC record fell to 4-2 to leave it two games back of Buffalo in the East. They’ll need to win back-to-back contests to close the regular season and hope Bowling Green can upset Buffalo next week.

-- Rourke completed 16-of-27 passes for 163 yards and two TDs without an interception in the loss at Miami. A.J. Ouellette had 168 rushing yards on 15 attempts, while White had five receptions for 44 yards and one TD. Ouellette had three catches for 29 yards.

-- Rourke, the junior QB who was a second-team All-MAC selection in 2017, has the MAC’s highest QB Rating (163.66). He has completed 62.3 percent of his throws for 1,932 yards with a 19/5 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Rourke has also rushed for 653 yards and eight TDs, averaging 6.5 yards per carry.

-- Ouellette is third in the MAC in rushing yards (777), fourth in TD runs (eight) and ninth in YPC average (5.4). Irons has run for 613 yards and seven TDs with a 6.4 YPC average. He has five catches for 34 yards and one TD, while Ouellette has 16 receptions for 146 yards and one TD.

-- Ohio is ranked 12th in the nation in scoring (39.3 points per game), 19th in rushing yards and 29th in total offense.

-- Buffalo (9-1 SU, 8-2 ATS) is a perfect 4-0 both SU and ATS in four road assignments this season. The Bulls are on a five-game winning streak both SU and ATS since suffering their only loss of the year in a 42-13 setback vs. Army as a 7.5-point home ‘chalk.’ They’ve won four of the five games by 14 points or more and all five by at least seven points. They’re off last Tuesday’s 48-14 win over Kent St. as 17-point home favorites. Buffalo darted out to a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter, led 34-0 at intermission and 48-0 going into the final stanza. The Golden Flashes got a pair of fourth-quarter TDs to avoid taking cream-cheese treatment and make the score look a tad more respectable. True freshman RB Jaret Patterson stole the show by turning 18 carries into 187 rushing yards and two TDs. QB Tyree Jackson threw for 111 yards and one TD without an interception, in addition to rushing for a score.

-- Buffalo can clinch the MAC’s Eastern Division with a win in this spot. Even if the Bulls come up short, they’ll still go to the MAC Championship Game if they can win at Bowling Green next week.

-- Buffalo is led by Jackson, the 6’7” junior signal caller who has completed 56.1 percent of his passes for 2,338 yards with a 24/8 TD-INT ratio. Jackson also has 95 rushing yards and six TDs. He has two prime targets in K.J. Osborn and Anthony Johnson. Osborn has 45 catches for 761 yards and six TDs, while Johnson has 35 receptions for 699 yards and nine TDs.

-- Patterson has rushed for a team-best 728 yards and 10 TDs while averaging 6.0 YPC. Kevin Marks has 616 rushing yards for eight scores with a 5.0 YPC.

-- Although Lance Leipold’s squad lost at home to Army, Buffalo did post non-conference wins at Temple (36-29) and at Rutgers (42-13).

-- Buffalo has been a road underdog on Leipold’s watch 18 times during his four-year tenure, producing a 7-8-1 spread record. However, the Bulls are 2-0 ATS in a pair of such spots this year and 5-1-1 in their past seven games as road ‘dogs.

-- When these schools collided at UB Stadium last year on Nov. 24, Buffalo captured a 31-24 win as a 6.5-point home underdog. The 55 combined points hit right on the total for a push. Jackson led the Bulls by throwing for 294 yards and two TDs without an interception. Emmanuel Reed’s one-yard TD run untied the game and provided the winning points with 8:10 remaining. Johnson had six receptions for 155 yards and two TDs. Rourke completed 15-of-30 passes for 265 yards with one TD and one interception. The Ohio QB rushed for 49 yards and two TDs on 16 attempts.

-- The home team has won eight games in a row in this rivalry and has covered the number in five straight encounters.

-- The ‘over’ has hit in back-to-back Buffalo games to improve to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in its road contests. The Bulls have watched their games average combined scores of 58.7 PPG.

-- The ‘over’ is 5-4-1 overall for the Bobcats, 2-1-1 in their home outings. They’ve seen their games average combined scores 66.8 PPG.

-- Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2.

**Miami (OH) at Northern Illinois**

-- As of early this morning, most books had Northern Illinois (7-3 SU, 6-4 ATS) installed as a 6.5-point home ‘chalk’ with a total of 48. The RedHawks were +200 on the money line (risk $100 to win $200).

-- NIU clinched the MAC West to garner a spot in the conference’s championship game with last week’s 38-15 win over Toledo as a 3.5-point home favorite. Since losing 37-10 at FSU on Sept. 22, the Huskies have won six games in a row while compiling a 5-1 spread record in the process. They’re 6-0 in MAC play and won a 7-6 decision at BYU last month. NIU took its two other L’s at Iowa (33-7) and vs. Utah (17-6).

-- Rod Carey’s club has won three of its four home games while going 2-2 ATS. The Huskies covered the spread in their only home loss to the Utes, who needed a pick-six late in the fourth quarter to put the game on ice. Nevertheless, NIU still took the money as a 12.5-point home ‘dog. The Huskies are 1-2 ATS as home favorites this year, 12-15 ATS in 27 such spots since Carey took over in 2013.

-- Sophomore QB Marcus Childers has connected on 57.4 percent of his passes for 1,383 yards with a 10/6 TD-INT ratio. He’s run for 328 yards and five TDs. Tre Harbison paces NIU in rushing with 804 yards and four TDs with a 5.5 YPC average. Marcus Jones has 478 rushing yards, three rushing scores and a 5.8 YPC average.

-- Childers has a pair of primary targets in Jauan Wesley and D.J. Brown. Wesley has 42 receptions for 473 yards and two TDs, while Brown has caught 41 balls for 351 yards and three TDs. Brown also has 81 rushing yards and one TD on 14 carries for a 5.8 YPC average.

-- Miami (4-6 SU, 6-4 ATS) is hoping to win its next two games to get bowl eligible for the second time in three years. As previously noted, the RedHawks won a tight 30-28 decision over Ohio last week as home underdogs. Gus Ragland connected on 20-of-32 passes for 199 yards and one TD without a pick against the Bobcats. Alonzo Smith ran for 94 yards and two TDs on 29 attempts, while Kenny Young turned 15 touches into 105 all-purpose yards and one TD.

-- Miami has lost three of its five road games outright, but it has gone 3-2 versus the number. The RedHawks are 2-2 ATS in four games as road underdogs this year, 15-9 ATS in 24 such instances during Chuck Martin’s five-year tenure.

-- Ragland, the senior QB, has enjoyed an outstanding career. He has started 26 games and posted a 55/11 TD-INT. Ragland has 864 career rushing yards and 12 TDs. In Miami’s past four games, Ragland has thrown seven TD passes without being picked off. After the RedHawks started 0-3, Ragland has led his team to a 6-1 spread record while throwing 13 TD passes compared to merely one interception. His senior could’ve been better if not for the season-ending loss of senior WR James Gardner, who was a third-team All-MAC selection in 2016 and a first-team All-MAC choice last season. Gardner went down in a 26-3 loss at Minnesota in Week 3. He had 12 receptions for 157 yards at that point.

-- Smith has rushed for 499 yards and six TD with a 4.8 YPC average. Young has 296 rushing yards and four TDs while averaging 6.6 YPC. Ragland has run for 196 yards and five TDs.

-- Jack Sorenson has a team-best 43 receptions for 629 yards and two TDs, and Young has caught 41 balls for 365 yards and four TDs.

-- Miami will be without three starters on defense, including senior NT Nate Trawick, senior LB Junior McMullen and senior DB De’Andre Montgomery. Another senior starter, Deondre Daniels, has missed five consecutive games and is ‘questionable’ at NIU.

-- Miami has lost three one-possession games, including a 40-39 home loss to Western Michigan and a 31-30 overtime loss at Army.

-- NIU has been victorious in seven of the past eight head-to-head meetings between these MAC adversaries, but the RedHawks have covered the spread at a 5-1 ATS clip in the last six encounters. They were double-digit underdogs in each of those instances. Miami’s five straight covers ended last year when NIU won by a 45-12 count in Oxford as a 17.5-point road ‘chalk.’ -- The ‘under’ is 8-2 overall for the Huskies, 4-0 in its home games. They’ve watched their games average combined scores of 42.1 PPG.

-- The ‘over’ is 6-4 overall for Miami, 4-1 in its five road assignments. The RedHawks have seen their contests average combined scores of 56.0 PPG.

-- ESPNU will have the broadcast at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.

**B.E.’s Bonus Nuggets**

-- Duke’s second-leading tackler Dylan Singleton underwent season-ending ankle surgery this past Sunday after sustaining a fracture in last week’s 42-35 home win over UNC. The Blue Devils, who are big underdogs Saturday at Clemson, have won outright in all four of their games as road ‘dogs this year. They’ve won at Northwestern, at Baylor, at Georgia Tech and at Miami.

-- Maryland QB Kasim Hill (9/4 TD-INT) tore his ACL last week for the second time in 14 months. He had started all 10 games for the Terrapins, who will turn to Tyrrell Pigrome as their starter when they host Ohio State.

-- According to a report from ABC’s affiliate in Boulder, fifth-year Colorado head coach Mike MacIntyre will be fired at season’s end. The Buffaloes’ AD denied the report on Tuesday afternoon. There are already job openings at Bowling Green, Kansas, Louisville and Maryland. I think Alabama OC Mike Locksley will get the Maryland gig. I doubt Purdue’s Jeff Brohm would turn down his alma mater, Louisville, but he does have Purdue on the rise and a superstar in true freshman Rondale Moore to build around for at least two more seasons. If Brohm passes on the U of L gig, the school might go back after Charlie Strong at USF. Todd Graham and Les Miles have expressed interest in the KU job (talk about desperation mode!).

-- Virginia Tech junior DE Houshon Gaines will miss the rest of the season due to a torn ACL. Gaines had recorded a team-high 4.5 sacks.

-- Georgia Tech has won five of its past six games both SU and ATS. The Yellow Jackets, who lost outright to their first three FBS foes and started 0-4 ATS, will welcome Virginia to The Flats in Midtown Atlanta on Saturday.

-- South Carolina senior LB Bryson Allen-Williams is out for the last three games of the regular season after undergoing ankle surgery. The Gamecocks are hopeful that he might be able to return for a bowl game.

1* Free NCAAB Pick on Michigan State Spartans -25
A lot of people might be tempted to grab the points with the Warhawks, considering they are getting 25 points after only losing by 10 as a 19-point dog at Texas last time out. No disrespect to the Longhorns, but they aren't on the same level as Tom Izzo and the Spartans.
After losing to Kansas in their opener, Michigan State crushed Florida Gulf Coast 106-82, covering as a 22.5-point favorite. It could have been a lot worse, as the Spartans had a 59-35 edge at the half before calling off the dogs.
The biggest reason ULM was able to keep it close against Texas was the Longhorns shot a miserable 26 of 62 (41.9%) from the field. I can assure you the Warhawks won't be keeping this one within 10-points if they only put 55 on the board. Look for Michigan State's offense to be too much for ULM to handle.
Spartans are 9-1 ATS in their last 10 home games after playing their previous against a non-conference opponent and 6-0 ATS in their last 6 at home off a win by 15 or more. Warhawks are 0-6 ATS last 6 off a road cover where the team lost straight up as a dog. Take Michigan State!

Take Under the Total in the game between the Buffalo Bulls and the Ohio Bobcats. Buffalo (9-1) has won five straight games with their 48-14 win versus Kent State last Tuesday. The Bulls go back on the road where they have played 5 of their last 6 road games Under the Total against teams with a winning record at home. Buffalo has also played 14 of their last 19 games Under the Total as an underdog. Ohio (6-4) comes off an upset 30-28 loss at Miami (OH) as a 4.5-point favorite last Wednesday. The Bobcats have then seen the Under go 14-6-1 in their last 21 games after a point spread loss. Ohio has also played 4 straight games Under the Total at home against teams with a winning record on the road. Take the Under. Best of luck — Frank.

My money is on the UNDER 66.5 in Wednesday's MAC football showdown between Ohio and Buffalo. This had the makings of basically a playoff game for the MAC East title until Ohio was upset last week at Miami,OH. Now the Bobcats not only have to win this game, but they also need Buffalo to lose to Bowling Green, which simply isn't going to happen. Falcons are 1-5 in league play and 2-8 overall. I'm sure the Bulls would prefer to just take care of business tonight. I think both teams bring it and as good as the Buffalo offense has been, this Ohio defense is really good and should be able to keep them in check, which in turn should keep this game well below the number. Bet the UNDER 66.5!

Boston is at low ebb right now coming home after going 1-4 SU, 0-5 ATS on a five-game road trip that concluded this past Sunday in Portland with a 100-94 loss to the Trail Blazers. The Celtics' lone win during their trip came against the 2-11 Suns in overtime. The question now becomes are the Celtics ready to take out their frustrations against the Bulls today? The evidence says no. Boston likely wins, but not by double-digits. The Celtics are still trying to find their way. Brad Stevens is working on ironing out his rotation. Not only is this Boston's first game back from a long trip - often a bad spot for the home team - but the Celtics have revenge games up next hosting Toronto on Friday and Utah on Saturday. The matchup against the Raptors is the biggest for the Celtics so far this season. So Stevens has little reason to extend his starter's minutes against the lowly Bulls especially if the game gets out of hand, which leaves the backdoor swinging open if it comes down to a garbage time scenario with the point spread on the line. Boston is at its point spread worst, too, when laying 8 1/2 or more points having failed to cover in that situation the past 10 TIMES, including going 0-4 ATS in that role this season. The Bulls are a young team with some of their better players injured. Zach LaVine is having a breakout season, though. He's currently the fifth-leading scorer in the NBA averaging 27.1 points a game. Chicago has covered in its last three away games. Only twice in their last 11 games have the Bulls lost by more than nine points.

NCAA-F | Miami-OH vs Northern Illinois
Play on: Miami-OH +7 -105 at 5Dimes

Jack’s Free Pick Wednesday: Miami Ohio +7
Western Michigan did Northern Illinois a huge favor last night. They lost 41-42 (OT) at Ball State, and that loss handed the Huskies the MAC West title. Northern Illinois will now be going to the MAC Championship Game regardless of what happens in these final two games, including tonight’s affair with Miami Ohio.
Now I have to question the Huskies’ motivation here tonight. And I certainly don’t believe they should be 7-point favorites over Miami Ohio, a team that is still fighting for bowl eligibility at 4-6 on the season. And that was on display last week when Miami Ohio upset Ohio 30-28 as 4.5-point underdogs. They controlled that game from start to finish before Ohio made a late rally to make it interesting.
The Redhawks have been flying under the radar for quite some time now. They are actually 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. They’ve lost two games by exactly one point during this stretch and another by 9 points at Buffalo, which is the best team in the MAC this season. And they actually held a lead in the 4th quarter over Buffalo before giving way late.
Northern Illinois simply doesn’t have the offensive firepower to be laying big numbers. The Huskies are only scoring 21.1 points per game this season while averaging just 318.5 yards per game and 4.4 yards per play. They are actually getting outgained by 36.3 yards per game by their opponents on the season. To compare, Miami is outgaining its opponents by 7.3 yards per game on the season despite the 4-6 record, so they are better than their record.
Miami Ohio is 5-1 ATS in its last six meetings with Northern Illinois, and four of those were decided by 5 points or fewer. The Redhawks are 6-1 ATS in their last seven conference games. Bet Miami Ohio Wednesday.

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach NHL Game #51 Wednesday Free Pick St Louis Blues Money Line (+) @ Chicago Blackhawks @ 8:05 ET - The Blackhawks have lost 8 straight games. I have watched Chicago numerous times since the coaching change. They now have the youngest coach in the NHL and it is evident the players are still trying to adjust to his systems. Players have been out of position and made numerous mistakes that have cost Chicago in terms of odd man rushes going the other way and open looks at the net. This is normal when a team is going through a coaching change but the process is even more painful when you're talking about a non-veteran NHL coach. This is a divisional game so St Louis will be fully focused on this match-up with the Blackhawks. This is particularly true because they lost their earlier visit to Chicago last month. The Blues are off a loss and St Louis is 3-1 since mid-October when off a loss. The Blackhawks are hungry to avoid losing a 9th straight game but the Blues will show no mercy after losing versus Minnesota despite a 30-18 edge in shots on goal. St Louis has a huge edge in special teams here as they have the much better power play and have also been better than Chicago has on the penalty kill this season. The Blues have won 47 of their last 76 games against teams with a losing record. The Blackhawks have revenge here from a loss at St Louis in late October but Chicago has lost 10 of 13 this season when playing with revenge! Free Pick ST LOUIS Money Line

Winless in eight games and still looking to get their new coach his first victory, the Hawks are going to be a highly motivated team this evening. Play on: Bucks -9½ -110 at sportsbook

My free play is on the Mil Bucks at 8:05 ET.
The 10-3 Milwaukee Bucks trail only the 12-2 Toronto Raptors in the East and the 12-3 Golden State Warriors (Western Conference) in the 'race' for the NBA's best record. The Bucks are coming off a a 121-114 win at Denver on Sunday that closed out a four-game West Coast road trip in which the team went 2-2. Center Brook Lopez scored a game-high 28 points and matched an NBA record for a seven-footer by making eight, three-pointers. The 7-5 Memphis Grizzlies will play four of their next six games on the road, after suffering their first home loss of the season, 96-88 to the Utah Jazz on Monday.
Memphis is trying to fight on despite a rash of early-season injuries. JaMychal Green suffered a broken jaw in Memphis' second game of the season while Chandler Parsons and Omri Casspi have been limited so far with sore knees. The Grizzlies suffered another hit Monday night, when Dillon Brooks suffered a sprained MCL over the weekend. Brooks' injury left head coach J.B. Bickerstaff with only eight available players Monday night.
The Bucks went just 2-2 on their West Coast trip but the wins came over 12-3 Golden State and Denver (opened 9-1, before losing four straight). Giannis Antetokounmpo
shot 58 percent on the road trip and is averaging 25.4 points, 13 rebounds and 5.8 assists on the season. Milwaukee's other four starters are all averaging in double digits, allowing the Bucks to lead the NBA in scoring at 121.6 PPG (Golden St, who?)
Memphis averages about 20 PPG fewer than Milwaukee (101.8 PPG ranks 29th) and that average falls to 96.3 points on the road. However, Memphis does lead the NBA in allowing just 100.7 PPG. However, Milwaukee is a perfect 6-0 SU at home (5-0-1 ATS), averaging 124.7 PPG, winning by an average of 19.1 PPG. Lay the points.
Good luck...Larry

I'll take my chances here with New Orleans as a short road dog against the Timberwolves. Minnesota won their first game after trading Jimmy Butler 120-113 at home over the Nets. Towns had a huge game with a 20-20 performance, but Minnesota shot 53% from the field and held Brooklyn to just 39.6%. I'm just not buying the win as a sign that the Wolves are fixed after the trade. Now they got to adjust their rotations even more with the additions of Covington and Saric. New Orleans has won 3 straight after losing 6 in a row and were all business in a 126-110 win at Toronto as a 9.5-point dog last time out. They are simply the much better team and it would be an added bonus here if either Mirotic or Payton returns from injury. Give me the Pelicans +1.5!

They're 9-1 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up win of more than 10 points and 12-2 ATS in their last 14 when facing team with a losing straight up record, which they will here taking on the 5-9 Timberwolves.
Minnesota returned home from an 0-5 road trip to beat Brooklyn 120-113, but this is a big step up in competition and Minnesota's D is not good enough to keep this high-scoring Pels team in check.

The Dallas Mavericks will be seeking revenge on the Utah Jazz tonight. The Jazz have already beaten them twice this season 113-104 on the road and 117-102 at home. But it’s worth noting that 15-point road loss was the 2nd of a back-to-back for the Mavs. Dallas is in a much better situation here at home as they are as healthy as they’ve been all season, and they are coming off a 15-point home win over the Thunder and a 5-point road win over the Bulls. They are playing some good basketball now that they are healthy, and all of a sudden they are one of the deepest teams in the league. The Mavericks are 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine home meetings with the Jazz. Give me the Mavericks.

The Key: The San Antonio Spurs have lost 3 of their last 4 coming in to fall to 7-5 on the season. Greg Popovich recently called his players soft. They should respond tonight and make easy work of the Phoenix Suns, who have been the worst team in the NBA. The Suns are just 1-11 in their last 12 games overall and they have rarely even been competitive as all 11 losses have come by 7 points or more. That bodes well for the Spurs covering this 5-point spread when you factor in that the Spurs have gone 14-1 in their last 15 meetings with the Suns as well. They won 120-90 in Phoenix on Halloween Night in their first and only meeting this season. It should be more of the same tonight. Take San Antonio.

This game features the 9-6 Sixers at the 6-8 Magic. Sixers might be the heaviest bet team tonight in the NBA early on we are seeing 79% of the money come in on the Sixers due to the face that this is Jimmy Butler's first game with the team. I think there will be an adjust period as the team learns how to gel with it's new star. Lets not forget Orlando is a very good young team 6-8 on the year and the Sixers have just 2 road wins and this is the end of a road trip. Take Orlando plus the points for a 8* winner.

After allowing Florida St to 48% and score 81 points the Gators defense was embarrassed. In their home opener they held Charleston Southern to 46 points and 25.5% shooting. Florida knows it must continue to work on their stifling D as they head to the Bahamas to take on Oklahoma and then Wisconsin or Stanford and the stiffer competition. The new LaSalle HC Ashley Howard likes to slow the tempo and keep it a half court game. Take the UNDER here in this one as your Wednesday Free College Hoops play.

Winless in eight games and still looking to get their new coach his first victory, the Hawks are going to be a highly motivated team this evening. The Blues, on the other hand, may already have their upcoming trip to Vegas on the back of their minds. Expect the Hawks to be the "hungrier" team and that to lead to a badly needed victory. Consider Chicago.

Even though the Huskies defense has been staunch - no more than 26 points allowed in any of their last 6 games - I do like tonight's home game to land Over the total.

NIU has seen 8 of their 10 games hold Under the total, but on the other side, Miami-Ohio has been Over in 6 of their 10 games, including 5 of their last 7. The key to this game making its way into the Over column, will be the fact the Redhawks defense has proved to be a liability for Chuck Martin, as they have given up over 36 points per game over their last 3 MAC games.

Miami-O's quarterback Gus Ragland has been around the block a time or two, and he has been able to generate points to compensate for the yielding defense, as the Redhawks have come up with just north of 30 points per game over their last 6 contests.

These teams last played in 2015, and that meeting did land Over the total. In fact, the Over is 3-1 the last 4 times these schools have faced one another.

The weather is going to be clear and cold for this one, and I am of the opinion that in the colder weather holding onto the football can potentially be an issue. I expect a turnover or two that will lead to some short-field scoring opportunities.

It is not going to land Over by 3 touchdowns, but I do feel this one is squeezing Over come the final gun.

Miami-Ohio and Northern Illinois to land Over.

They are only 2-6 straight up and against the spread on the road, but those 2 wins have come over their last 3 away from home.

Philadelphia is on the road again, but tonight they take to the court with their newest addition, Jimmy Butler! Expect the 76ers to get an immediate jolt from Jimmy, and expect them to pull away from this Orlando team.

The Sixers beat the Magic by just one back on October 20th in Philadelphia in a non-cover, but they extended their series winning streak to 4 straight, and 5 wins in the last 6 overall series tilts. That October non-cover is the ONLY non-cover for Philly in that 6 game stretch, so don't worry about laying the road wood tonight.

The Magic have done well for themselves with wins in 4 of their last 5 games, but in reality their lineup cannot match the firepower of Butler, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons over the full four quarters.

76ers to stretch the margin.

Side with Philly.

COMPLIMENTARY WINNER

My free play for Wednesday night is on the Washington Wizards laying the home chalk over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

I lost going against the Cleveland Cavaliers last night, and they beat me. But they're still just 2-11 just five months after playing in their fourth straight NBA Finals. And after exhaling from last night's blowout win against Charlotte, the Cavs have to travel to Washington and face a team they won't be able to keep up with on its own floor.

Washington is just 4-9 and sits fourth in the Southeast, but it is much better than its record and needs a pivotal game that will ignite a winning run. This is a great opportunity.

The Wizards have won two straight and are still near the start of a five-game homestand. They've put up 116 and 117 in their last two games, and finally appear to be playing like a team and with the right chemistry.

Bradley Beal has 10 20+ points games and is averaging 19.2, 4.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists against the Cavaliers in his career. The other four starters for the Wizards are averaging double figures this season, with Markieff Morris (14.4), Dwight Howard (17.0), Otto Porter, Jr (11.3) and John Wall leading the charge 20.8 points and 9.8 assists.

So if there is one game this time can come together and share mutual success, it's against the Cavaliers.

I'll bank on Beal to lead the way, as he is one of eight players this season to average more than 8.0 3-point field goal attempts per game (8.1). Beal's 8.1 attempts are the most he has averaged in his career and a +1.6 increase from the 2017-18 season.

Cleveland has the seventh-worst 3-point defense in the league, so it will get torched by Washington's perimeter game.

Take the Wizards here.

A pair of old rivals get together tonight at Staples Center, as the Portland Trail Blazers visit the Los Angeles Lakers, and I'm going to play this one low. I actually saw the overnight line of 227, and loved seeing the adjusted number placed at 223. Means I was right on track with my thoughts.

Portland is going to be sluggish after finishing up a six-game homestand since the start of the month. To have to gear up for an elongated road trip that will cover just about every time zone, the Blazers will look to slow things down.

They've done a good job in limiting teams to less than triple figures in their last five games, to the tune of 99.4 points per game. It's a defensive mentality they're going to need to bring into Los Angeles, where the Lakers average 117.1 points per game.

The slow pace will suit the Lakers just fine, as they come in riding a three-game win streak that has seen their defense hold teams to an average of 100.67 points per game. They've stayed under in six straight games, and know the way to beat Portland is by slowing the tempo.

Look for both teams to tighten up defensively and this one to stay Under the posted number.

Now, to have to play on the second of back-to-back nights against the speedy Winnipeg Jets, I would venture to say the edge is with the home team.

Winnipeg, which is 7-2-1 at home this season, continues a four-game homestand after opening it 2-0 with a pair of 5-2 victories over the Colorado Avalanche and New Jersey Devils. The Jets conclude the homestand on Friday, against Buffalo, but this is the game they want. Against the defending champs.

After averaging 2.4 goals per game in their previous five games, the Jets have scored five goals in back-to-back games, and the thought of beating a struggling Caps team will have the Jets moving fast.

Winnipeg is tied for fourth in the NHL with 37 goals in 10 home games. And after Sunday’s win, the Jets have an NHL-best home record of 16-1-1 dating back to last season, since Mar. 2.

Blake Wheeler has been playing exceptional, and takes the ice after being named the NHL’s second star of the week on Monday after tallying seven points (1 goal, 6 assists) in two games. He is currently riding a 10-game point streak, with two goals and 17 assists.

And, goaltender Connor Hellebuyck is heating up, as he's started all four games for the Jets this month, going 3-1-0 with a 2.52 goals-against average and .923 save percentage. He’s stopped 62 of 66 shots through the first two games of the homestand for a .939 save percentage, and will be ready for what could be a weary Caps team that skated hard in St. Paul last night.

Take the home team and lay the puck line.
