Taking ALABAMA on the ML. Not that I am a fan of laying 2-1 with MLs. But in this case, I will make an exception. Look. I will be honest. Part of me was like, oh, you gotta play on Clemson in this spot. It just seems like everyone is on the Tigers. I get they took care of ND, and all comers in posting a 14-0 record. This Bama team is as good as past squads except it can pass a bit now. I think that everyone is really over-looking the Tide. Tigers led by Freshman QB - Man. I don't know. Do we think that Saban will have some new looks for the youngster? Will a Clemson win shock me? Absolutely not. I had the Tide in 2016 and they failed to cover. I came back ML Clemson in 2017. And we cashed last year on Alabama. Again on the Tide to bring home the title. 4* Money Maker ALABAMA

Take Clemson. This is my NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WINNER. Game 151. 5:00 pm pst. Clearly, the 2 best teams in college football face each other here for the National Title. Both are 14-0 SU. Both are 8-6 ATS. Both own a top-5 offense. And both own a top-5 defense. The difference here is that most teams are afraid of Alabama before they even step on to the field. However, Clemson having faced them the L3 years, have no fear of Saban of his Crimson Tide squad. Speaking of which, 'Bama alum, Dabo Swinney is 8-1 SU and ATS his L9 Bowl/Playoff games. Nick Saban is 3-6 ATS his L8 Bowl/Playoff games. The Alabama defense is tough but has given up 21, 28, and 34 points in consecutive contests, entering this matchup. Clemson isn't getting the respect it deserves from oddsmakers. The Tigers are every bit as good - if not better - than Alabama. Yes, the SEC is a better football conference than the ACC. No argument there. But I will argue the Tigers passed a tough schedule with flying colors beating 10 Bowl teams, eight of them by 20 or more points. Clemson is every bit as dominating as Alabama ranking fourth in points scored while giving up the fewest points per game in the nation. The Tigers have proven themselves huge money-winners in the postseason, too, covering eight of their last nine bowl games. Alabama's defense showed some vulnerability against Oklahoma. True, the Sooners have a great offense. But so does Clemson. I like Tigers QB Trevor Lawrence much more than Kelly Bryant. The Tide defeated Clemson, 24-6, in the Sugar Bowl last season when Bryant was behind center. This time around it will be much different.

ANALYSIS ...

For me the right side of the game is the boys wearing orange jersey's.

There are so many plot lines in breaking down this game. So many match ups from the head coaches to the d'lines to the backs and receivers.

For me this game comes down to one thing and one thing only, the play of Clemson freshman QB Trevor Lawrence.
All I have heard all week is no true freshman is beating Nick Saban.

Fair enough. Very valid argument. History shows it's a tough thing to do.

However, if you haven't seen Lawrence play, he doesn't play like a freshman.

He made his first start at home against Syracuse and was knocked out of the game in the 2nd quarter of the Tigers come from behind 27-23 win.

Over his next 9 games including the 27-point win over Notre Dame in the semi's, this kid plays like a senior ready for the NFL draft.
Against a top 10 Irish defense, he went 27 of 39 for 327 yards and 3 touchdowns. The moment was NOT to big for him and he played like it.

For the year, he has thrown for 27 touchdowns on just 4 interceptions, the same amount of interceptions Bama's Tua Tagovailoa has thrown this season.

After the near miss against the Cuse, Clemson has won their last 9 games by an average of 38 points a game. 38!!!!!!!

Of those 9 wins, 6 were against bowl teams highlighted by the 63-3 win at Wake Forest, 34 point win over NC State and the 29 point win over Duke.
In the ACC championship game they hammered Pitt 42-10 and after the game Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi has something very interesting to say.

"They'll probably win the national championship. It's as good a football team from the front end to the back end as far as talent goes."

I'm not worried one bit about young Mr. Lawrence tonight.

As for Alabama, this is arguably the best throwing QB that NIck Saban has ever had leading the best offense he has ever had.

It will be a challenge for the Clemson defense, minus their best player to slow them down but, and this is a big but, I believe they will.

Alabama is not invincible. Just ask football powerhouse, Citadel, who as a 53 1/2 point underdog stood toe to toe with the Bama, tied 10-10 at the half.

Yes, Alabama woke up in the 2nd half to win 50-17 but that first half at home shows, this Alabama team is human after all.

Folks, it was 4 years ago when Clemson got to the BCS championship game, looked Alabama in the eye and said, "You better get used to seeing us.

They lost that day 45-40 but they walked away as a program with the belief that we just punched the bully in the mouth and were not scared of you.

The very next year they beat the Alabama 35-31, announcing to the college football world, "we're here to stay.'

Last year they met in the semi's, Clemson was just as good as Alabama but Swinney was stuck with a one dimensional QB in Kelly Bryant and lost 24-6.

Trevor Lawrence is not Kelly Bryant.

Swinney has built this program to elite status. He has finally gotten Clemson to the Alabama level and tonight, he and his program go beyond.


I expect Clemson to this game outright and I don't even think it will be as close as people think, but I will never pass up points when they are there for the taking.

Two teams that have been trending to the over will meet when the Clemson Tigers take on the Alabama Crimson Tide at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, CA in the CFB Playoff Championship Game on Monday night. Alabama has posted a 4-1 record to the over in their last five non-conference games and they have gone an excellent 5-2-1 to the over in their last eight games where the faced a team from the ACC. They have also gone up and over the number in eleven of their last sixteen bowl games and they are an impressive 9-4-1 to the over in their last fourteen games following a game where they allowed more than 450 yards. Clemson has been an over team as well in the spot they are in here on Monday as they have gone over the total in four of their last five games played in the month of January. Throw in the fact that Bama is a lights out 20-6-2 ATS in their last 28 neutral site games along with the fact that these two teams scored 85 and 66 points in the other two times they met in the CFP Championship Game (both going over the number by 15+ points) and that's where we'll have our play as we expect both teams to get up and down the field a bit in Santa Clara on Monday night.
As for the side, Clemson has posted a 7-2 ATS record in their last nine games following a straight up win and they are an excellent 6-1 ATS in their last seven games off a straight up win by 20 points or more. They have also covered the number in six of their last eight games where they faced a team with a winning record and they are an impressive 8-1 ATS in their last nine bowl games. Alabama, on the other hand, has struggled a bit in the spot they are in here on Monday night as they have gone just 1-5 ATS in their last six games played in the month of January. Throw in the fact that Clemson is 13-3 ATS in their last sixteen neutral site games along with the fact that they covered both games where these two met for the title, winning one of them outright and we're taking the points here with the Tigers in a game that we think they win in Santa Clara on Monday night.

Clemson/Alabama Over 57 3.3% play - I actually think the first half under has some value at 28, but won't personally play it. Super Bowls, and Championship games tend to come out with a more conservative approach. When these two teams met in 2016 & 2017 in this game the first half combined for 21 and 28 points followed by second halfs of 45 and 57 points. If you want more value on the over here, and have the ability to bet it live or at half time you could wait and probably get a better number than 57.

Weather/Field Conditions - It was raining yesterday and this morning in Santa Clara, and that has started to drive the total down along with the fact that there is a notion that field conditions here are not good. Two college games played here went well under, but neither was an offensive juggernaut. Washington vs. Utah, PAC 12 Championship, and MIchigan State vs. Oregon in the Redbox Bowl. However, the 49ers, and Seahawks played an OT game in the rain and the field held up well and I don't think impacted the offenses. New turf was put in just for this game and it has been covered, so I feel the field will be in excellent shape. To me we are getting value on the over as the last 59 games played here in NFL & College have gone under 61% so the number was already lower than it should have to start, and it has dropped 4 points mainly due to the weather conditions which won't impact this game by game time.

For the match-up on the field I also think it favors the over here with a game likely to be played in the 30's. Both teams are led by QB's who will be drafted in the first round when they come out. Both have a balanced offensive approach with a running game to go along with explosive offensive play makers. Each QB can make all the throws and they have 4 capable receivers going up against secondaries which are the hidden weakness for both teams.

Will the Dogs continue their 9-2 run from New Years Eve and New Years Day Games? I believe so. Offensively Alabama is #2 at 7.9 YPP while Clemson is #3 at 7.3 YPP. Defensively Clemson is #1 allowing 4.0 YPP while Alabama is #15 at 4.7 YPP. Alabama played the tougher schedule as from Top to Bottom the SEC was better than the ACC. Over the last 8 games though the Clemson defense allowed only one team to score more than 16 points (S. Carolina 35) in fact in 6 of the 8 games Clemson held their opponents to 10 points or less. The Alabama offense has been rolling scoring 50,52, 35 and 45 in their last 4 games. But my concern is the Bama defense as Georgia put up 456 yards and Oklahoma put up 471 yards against Bama. Clemson’s offense can beat you on the ground and thru the air as Clemson rushes for 257 and throws for 274. Trevor Lawrence has completed 65% of his passes and has a 24-4 TD-INT ratio. I’m a firm believer that when you have the better defense and you are getting points you take the points.

Kudos to the Nuggets. It's nearly halfway through the NBA regular season and Denver has the best record in the Western Conference. The Rockets, though, should be ready for the Nuggets at home. Houston has picked up its pace since a slow beginning and is playing extremely well despite being without Chris Paul. The Rockets are 11-2 SU, 10-1-1 ATS in their last 13 games. They just lost, though, on the road to the Trail Blazers this past Saturday, Among the Rockets' wins during this current 13-game span have been against the Celtics, Thunder, Spurs, Jazz, Lakers when they had LeBron James and Trail Blazers. Houston is 8-0-1 ATS in its past nine home games. Denver has won five in a row. But its last four victories have all come against below .500 teams - Suns, Knicks, Kings and Hornets. Those teams are a combined 44 games under .500. The Nuggets have failed to cover five of their last six road games. They have a losing road spread mark on the season.
