Boston Celtics vs. Brooklyn Nets Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NBA Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

The Boston Celtics followed four consecutive home wins with back-to-back losses on the road, and star point guard Kyrie Irving is not happy. The Celtics will try to respond to Irving's latest attempt at motivating the team and salvage the finale of the three-game trip when they visit the Brooklyn Nets on Monday.

Irving credited a team meeting for giving Boston the boost it needed to average 120 points during the four-game homestand but was dismayed after a 105-103 loss at Orlando on Saturday about the team's inconsistency. "I know from the majority of fact that we're better than most teams in this league," Irving told reporters. "It's just going out and proving it every single night and demanding it and actually showing it. So, until we do that every single night and realize our depth is a positive and all the wishes and could-haves and should have done that, once that goes out the window, then we'll be better." The good version of the Celtics showed up for a 116-95 win over the Nets at home last Monday, and Brooklyn followed that with a home win over Atlanta before falling at Toronto on Friday. "If you say you're going to be a playoff team, we have to beat playoff teams," Brooklyn forward Ed Davis told reporters. "It's easy to beat the Hawks and Knicks and teams like that, but you really see where you're at when you play Toronto, Boston, at Houston, at Orlando, games like that. You really see where you're at."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBCS Boston, YES (Brooklyn)

ABOUT THE CELTICS (25-17): Boston's inconsistency was on the minds of the players and the coaches following Saturday's loss, which featured the team squandering a double-digit, second-half lead. "It's definitely a little frustrating," swingman Gordan Hayward told reporters. "Puzzling is a good word. ... We have stretches where we're really, really good, and really tough. And we have other stretches where we're not at all." Irving led the team with 25 points in Saturday's loss but went 0-of-5 from beyond the arc as part of a team effort that saw the Celtics connect on 8-of-32 from 3-point range.

ABOUT THE NETS (21-23): Brooklyn is 13-5 over its last 18 games and is battling for a playoff spot in the East, raising expectations for a team that was supposed to still be in rebuilding mode. The Nets held an early lead at East-leading Toronto on Friday but were outscored 71-40 in the second and third quarters and committed 17 turnovers in the 122-105 setback. "I rarely say this about our team, but I didn't love the effort and execution," coach Kenny Atkinson told reporters. "When you have both of those go wrong, that's when you get beat by 20. To beat an elite team on the road, our effort and our execution was nowhere near where it needed to be. We've got good guys. They understand it. They understand we've got Boston coming up, and if we have the same effort and execution, you're going to take (a 20-point loss) on the chin."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Celtics PG Terry Rozier is 1-of-13 from the field over the last two games.

2. Nets SF Jared Dudley (hamstring) sat out Friday and is day-to-day.

3. Boston took the last 10 in the series, including five in a row at Brooklyn.

PREDICTION: Celtics 111, Nets 109

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Houston Rockets Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NBA Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

James Harden kept alive one of the best scoring streaks in NBA history Sunday in Orlando, but his inability to hit from the perimeter led to a rare loss for the Houston Rockets. The reigning MVP will attempt to find the range once again Monday when the Rockets begin a three-game homestand against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Harden was a woeful 1-for-17 from 3-point range - including a series of misses down the stretch as the Magic closed on a 20-6 run - in the 116-109 loss, just the fourth setback in Houston's last 17 games. "You can't rely on (Harden) being a superhuman every night," coach Mike D'Antoni told the media of his star guard, who tied Kobe Bryant (16) for the most consecutive 30-point games since Wilt Chamberlain in 1964. "We got to have some contributions from some other guys. I just thought they came in with a lack of focus, especially on the defensive end, but it carried over to the offensive end. We just didn't play well." The Grizzlies are in the midst of a challenging stretch that will see them follow up the trip to Houston with a home game against Milwaukee and then visits to Boston and Toronto. They snapped a six-game slide with an impressive win over San Antonio on Wednesday before falling 112-108 at Miami on Saturday.

TV: 8 p.m. ET, FS Southeast (Memphis), AT&T Sportsnet Southwest (Houston)

ABOUT THE GRIZZLIES (19-23): JaMychal Green led the way in Saturday's loss with 24 points and 11 rebounds in only 22 minutes off the bench, his third double-digit effort on the boards in a span of four games. The 28-year-old's role may increase after starting forward Kyle Anderson, who scored 20 points in a New Year's Eve loss at Houston, was lost to a sprained ankle. Green is averaging 15 points and six rebounds in 22.5 minutes in two games against the Rockets this season, making all three of his 3-point attempts and shooting 76.9 percent overall.

ABOUT THE ROCKETS (24-18): Making his seventh straight start while fellow guards Chris Paul and Eric Gordon are sidelined, Austin Rivers scored a season-high 25 points on 10-of-14 shooting Sunday. Center Clint Capela chipped in 17 points and 10 rebounds for his 29th double-double, and the 24-year-old is averaging 21.2 points and 13 boards this month. Four reserves combined for seven points on 2-of-9 shooting in the loss to the Magic.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Harden recorded a triple-double in both of the previous matchups with Memphis, averaging 37.5 points, 11.5 assists and 11 rebounds in two Houston wins.

2. Grizzlies PG Mike Conley is averaging 22.2 points while making 46.4 percent of his 3-pointers over the last five games.

3. Rockets SF Danuel House Jr. has back-to-back 14-point outings while hitting 7-of-14 from 3-point range.

PREDICTION: Rockets 110, Grizzlies 100

Charlotte Hornets vs. San Antonio Spurs Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

Hornets vs. Spurs Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

The San Antonio Spurs won four championships with Tony Parker as the starting point guard, including a four-game sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2007 in which he was named the Finals MVP. Parker will make his first trip to San Antonio as a visiting player when the Charlotte Hornets visit the Spurs on Monday.

Parker was drafted by the Spurs as a 19-year-old in 2001 and spent the first 17 seasons of his career in black and silver before leaving as a free agent last summer to join former San Antonio assistant James Borrego and the Hornets. "It'll really look weird, won't it," Spurs coach Gregg Popovich told reporters last week of seeing Parker in a different uniform. "Anxious to see him. We talk frequently. He's always going to be part of my thoughts. He's a special young man and I've always felt like a second daddy to him over the years and he's been like a son in all kinds of ways. So, he's just a friend for life and someone I'll always care about. So, it'll be great to see him." Parker sat out Saturday to rest on the second night of a back-to-back and watched Charlotte fall to 1-4 on the six-game road trip with a 104-97 loss at Sacramento. "We turned it over a little bit too much," Borrego told reporters. "We were trying to execute, trying to make the right play - give them credit. They turned us over in this game. Give Sacramento credit. We could have been better."

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, NBATV, FS Southeast (Charlotte), FS Southwest (San Antonio)

ABOUT THE HORNETS (19-23): Charlotte won at Phoenix on the trip but dropped double-digit decisions at Denver, the Los Angeles Clippers and Portland before falling just short at Sacramento. "Just a lot of mistakes. We made a lot of mistakes down the stretch defensively, and they made plays," Hornets guard Kemba Walker told reporters after falling to the Kings. "That's really what it was. We came out with some great energy tonight. We were really conscious of that. We haven't been playing with that kind of energy as of late." Walker scored 31 points at Sacramento but is shooting 37.8 percent from the floor on the road trip, including 11-of-40 from 3-point range.

ABOUT THE SPURS (25-19): San Antonio is enjoying a seven-game home winning streak but is coming off a 122-112 loss at Oklahoma City on Saturday. The Spurs, who beat the Thunder in an epic 154-147 double-overtime thriller at home on Thursday, are 18-5 at home and are making a brief stop in front of the home fans before hitting the road again for four of the next five. All-Star forward LaMarcus Aldridge broke out for a career-high 56 points in Thursday's victory but could not muster the same effort on Saturday, when he settled for 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting in 33 minutes.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Spurs SF Rudy Gay (wrist) sat out the last four games and is questionable for Monday.

2. Hornets C Bismack Biyombo is averaging 8.8 rebounds on the road trip.

3. San Antonio took the last four in the series by an average of 12.3 points.

PREDICTION: Spurs 120, Hornets 106

Detroit Pistons vs. Utah Jazz Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NBA Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

The Utah Jazz are making things look easy on their homestand as they slowly work their way back up the standings in the Western Conference. The Jazz will try to ride sizzling guard Donovan Mitchell to a four-game sweep of the homestand when they host the Detroit Pistons on Monday.

Utah knocked off the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls by an average of 13 points and Mitchell averaged 33.3 points in the victories. "Mentally and physically, I think we're really tough," Mitchell told reporters after scoring 34 points on the second night of a back-to-back to lead the Jazz past the Chicago Bulls 110-102 on Saturday. "It just shows our character, and we're willing to compete, willing to fight, even with the odds really stacked against us. When our back's against the wall, I think that's when we really play our best." The Pistons snapped a four-game slide with a 109-104 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday as star forward Blake Griffin scored 44 points against his former team. "It was nice to get that game over with," Griffin told reporters. "I kind of compare it to the first game of the year in a way. There's such a big hype leading up to it, and then once it's done, you have to play 81 more. Now we have to play 41 more or whatever it is. It's over, and I'm moving on, they're moving on."

TV: 9 p.m. ET, FS Detroit, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Utah)

ABOUT THE PISTONS (18-23): Griffin went 13-of-23 from the floor and added eight rebounds and five assists to his totals on Saturday, with several of those assists going to shooting guard Reggie Bullock. "When he's got it going like that on offense, it's tough for teams," Bullock told reporters of Griffin. "They have to make an adjustment on the defensive end. They have to start doubling him. Once they double, it's my time to shine." Bullock knocked down 5-of-10 from beyond the arc en route to 17 points while Andre Drummond collected 20 points and 21 rebounds in the victory.

ABOUT THE JAZZ (23-21): Utah is operating without a true point guard with Ricky Rubio (groin), Dante Exum (ankle) and Raul Neto (groin) out and everyone is chipping in to pick up the slack. Center Rudy Gobert led the team with eight assists on Saturday while Mitchell handed out six. "We've got toughness. We've got chemistry," veteran guard Kyle Korver told reporters. "It's hard to play basketball without a point guard - it's an important position. But a bunch of guys have stepped up. It wasn't pretty the whole time tonight but winning the second game of a back-to-back is always big, so we'll take it and keep going."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Jazz PF Jae Crowder is 3-of-24 from the floor over the last two games.

2. Drummond's effort on Saturday marked his seventh game this season with at least 20 points and 20 rebounds but first since Nov. 23.

3. Utah earned a 110-105 win at Detroit on Jan. 5 behind 26 points from Mitchell.

PREDICTION: Jazz 109, Pistons 101

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Sacramento Kings Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NBA Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

The Portland Trail Blazers will have little time to recover from a difficult loss when they wrap up a quick two-game road trip at the Sacramento Kings on Monday. After winning four straight to end a five-game homestand, the Trail Blazers took the Western Conference-leading Denver Nuggets to the finish line Sunday night before falling 116-113 as guard Damian Lillard's long shot at the buzzer was off.

The Nuggets shot 55.6 percent from the floor, the third-highest mark for a Portland opponent this season, and seized control with a 35-point third quarter. "The turning point of the game was in the third quarter," Blazers coach Terry Stotts told reporters. "They got hot, made six of seven from three. They made a nice run to finish the quarter." The Kings will be trying to finish a perfect three-game homestand after knocking off Detroit and Charlotte to begin their stay at Golden 1 Center. Three players scored at least 21 points and Sacramento held the Hornets to just 38 second-half points in Saturday's 104-97 triumph.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, NBCS Northwest (Portland), NBCS California (Sacramento)

ABOUT THE TRAIL BLAZERS (26-18): Lillard scored 26 points on Sunday for his best total in a span of eight games, during which he has shot better than 40 percent just twice. The three-time All-Star is 12-for-50 from 3-point range in January, including a 1-of-9 showing in a 113-108 overtime win at Sacramento on New Year's Day. Center Jusuf Nurkic dominated that affair with 24 points, a career-high 23 rebounds, seven assists, five blocks and a career-high five steals.

ABOUT THE KINGS (22-21): Sacramento is 7-0 this season when holding an opponent under 100 points, and Saturday's win over Charlotte was the latest example of what this improving team can accomplish when it locks down on that end of the floor. "This was kind of a gritty win. We stuck together, kept competing defensively and got stops," coach Dave Joerger told reporters. "A good win for us." Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting after going 17-of-52 from the floor over his previous four contests.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Kings SG Buddy Hield is averaging 22.3 points in January while shooting 53.4 percent from 3-point range.

2. Blazers SF Maurice Harkless (knee) has missed three straight games and is day-to-day.

3. Portland has won four straight meetings.

PREDICTION: Kings 109, Trail Blazers 107

New Orleans Pelicans vs. LA Clippers Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NBA Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

The Los Angeles Clippers could not match the force of Blake Griffin and the Detroit Pistons in his return on Saturday, leading to a 109-104 setback in the opener of a four-game homestand. The Clippers will try to bounce back and avoid a third consecutive loss when they host the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday.

Setting aside the emotion of welcoming back one of the best players in franchise history on Saturday, Los Angeles outshot Detroit from the field (48.6 percent to 43.5) and from beyond the arc (50 percent to 43.2) but was outrebounded 53-42 and knocked down seven fewer 3-pointers. The Clippers are trying to remain among the elite teams in the West and need to take advantage of a homestand that features visits from Utah Jazz and the Golden State Warriors after the Pelicans. New Orleans looked great in beating up the likes of Cleveland and Memphis during a three-game winning streak but dropped a 110-106 decision at Minnesota on Saturday to open a five-game road trip. The Pelicans are 5-17 on the road and will not play back-to-back games at home again until February 12 and 14, leading into the All-Star break.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, FS New Orleans, FS Prime Ticket (Los Angeles)

ABOUT THE PELICANS (20-23): Superstar forward Anthony Davis is doing his best to keep New Orleans relevant in the loaded Western Conference and is averaging 34.7 points on 59.3 percent shooting over the last three games. Davis (30 points and 14 rebounds) and Julius Randle (22 points and 11 boards) both recorded a double-double in Saturday's loss, but the Pelicans scored just 17 points in the fourth quarter after totaling 89 in the first three periods. New Orleans struggled from beyond the arc (5-of-25), with guards Jrue Holiday (0-of-4), E'Twaun Moore (0-of-3) and forward Nikola Mirotic (1-of-6) having trouble getting started from long range.

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (24-18): The trade of Griffin last season and the departure of DeAndre Jordan in the offseason left Los Angeles without a true star on the roaster, and the team is relying on its depth in 2018-19. The reserves outscored the starters in Saturday's loss with Montrezl Harrell (21 points) and Lou Williams (22) highlighting the bench. The Clippers could use more out of starting forward Tobias Harris, who averages 20.8 points but was held to 11 on 4-of-9 shooting against the Pistons.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Clippers starting SG Avery Bradley is averaging five points on 30.8 percent shooting in six games this month.

2. Holiday is shooting 56.8 percent from the floor in five games this month.

3. The teams split the first two meetings this season - both in New Orleans.

PREDICTION: Clippers 115, Pelicans 113

Minnesota Wild vs. Philadelphia Flyers Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NHL Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
Wild vs. Flyers Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

The Minnesota Wild were booed out of their own building in their last outing after what Bruce Boudreau labeled as "the worst game that we've played since I've been here as coach." The Wild look to get back in Boudreau's good graces on Monday when they visit the free-falling Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center.

Zach Parise set up Luke Kunin's first goal of the season late in the first period of Saturday's 5-2 setback versus Detroit, moving past Mikael Granlund for the team lead in points (40) after collecting 11 (four goals, seven assists) in his past nine contests. The 34-year-old Parise, who has recorded 39 points (20 goals, 19 assists) in 45 career contests versus Philadelphia, needs to tally just once in 45 contests to reach 20 for the ninth time in his career. The Flyers' gloom-and-doom season limped along on Saturday afternoon as they fell for the ninth time in 10 contests (1-7-2) following a 3-2 loss to New Jersey. Philadelphia has mustered just 14 goals in its last nine contests overall and likely will face Devan Dubnyk, who turned aside all 62 shots he faced in back-to-back shutouts against the club last season.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Wisconsin, FS North (Minnesota), NBCS Philadelphia

ABOUT THE WILD (22-19-3): Boudreau wasn't the lone Minnesota representative to find fault with the team's performance as veteran forward Eric Staal also took umbrage following the 18-shot effort against the Red Wings. "Whether it was shots or no shots, I don't think we were very good." said the 34-year-old Staal, who is mired in an eight-game goal drought. "We just didn't execute very well. We didn't win a lot of the battles and they competed harder than we did. You do that in the NHL you're going to be on the losing end of it pretty much every night." Staal scored and set up a goal in two encounters last season versus the Flyers to boost his point total against the team to 41 (18 goals, 23 assists) in 52 games.

ABOUT THE FLYERS (16-23-6): James van Riemsdyk wasn't in the mood to celebrate after scoring and setting up a goal in his second straight game on Saturday, telling reporters that the team's frustration level has been heightened due to careless mistakes. "Certainly it's been frustrating. We shoot ourselves in the foot a lot and it makes you have to chase the game a lot of the time," said the 29-year-old van Riemsdyk, who has just eight goals and 18 points since signing a five-year, $35 million contract in the offseason. Jakub Voracek set up Sean Couturier's team-leading 16th goal on Saturday to boost his point total to four (one goal, three assists) over the last three games heading into a tilt with Minnesota, versus which he has 17 points (three goals, 14 assists) in 21 career contests.

OVERTIME

1. Philadelphia rookie G Carter Hart has been confirmed to start Monday's game at home, where he owns a 3-2-1 mark with a 2.18 goals-against average and .927 save percentage.

2. The Wild have dropped nine of 13 all-time meetings in the City of Brotherly Love.

3. Flyers captain Claude Giroux has just four (one goal, three assists) of his club-best 48 points in his last nine games.

PREDICTION: Wild 4, Flyers 2

Chicago Blackhawks vs. New Jersey Devils Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NHL Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

While Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat are pumping in points on the scoreboard, the Chicago Blackhawks are letting them slip away in the standings. Kane and DeBrincat look to continue their respective torrid stretches on Monday when the Blackhawks open a brief two-game road trip against New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

"We've gotten into tight games and for whatever reason we sit back. The way we were playing the first two periods (on Saturday), that was fun hockey. ... Why stop, no matter what the score?" said Kane, who saw Chicago fail to hold a two-goal lead in a 4-3 overtime setback versus Vegas for its fifth loss in six outings (1-2-3). The 2016 Hart Trophy recipient, who leads the team in goals (25), assists (35) and points (60), recorded his fourth consecutive multi-point performance on Saturday to boost his point streak to five games (three goals, seven assists). While the status of the reigning Hart Trophy winner remains in question due to a lower-body injury, New Jersey improved to 5-4-0 without Taylor Hall by posting a 3-2 win over ice-cold Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon. Nico Hischier posted his 20th career multi-point performance with a goal and an assist, lifting his total to 10 points (five goals, five assists) in his last 11 games.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NBCS Chicago, MSG Plus (New Jersey)

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (16-22-9): DeBrincat tallied twice versus the Golden Knights to give him five of his 23 goals during the last four games and 18 points (13 goals, five assists) in his last 20. "We're doing well. We're passing it around pretty well," the 21-year-old Michigan native told reporters. "Kaner's a threat by himself over there, too. It's tough for the other teams to defend if we're zipping it around and we have a lot of different options to score, so I think we're pretty confident right now and we look to keep going with it." DeBrincat has five of Chicago's 13 power-play goals over the last 12 games, with four being set up on one-timers from Kane.

ABOUT THE DEVILS (17-20-7): While Hischier has the burden of carrying the weight of being a top overall pick in an NHL draft class, the 20-year-old Swiss center told reporters he couldn't imagine the pressure that rookie Mackenzie Blackwood has to endure given his position. "If you make a mistake as a goaltender, it ends up in the back of the net. For me, I have defensemen to help," Hischier said the 22-year-old. Blackwood turned aside 32 shots in his return from injury on Saturday for New Jersey, which may turn back to Keith Kinkaid as he has stopped 102 of 112 shots in three career encounters (1-0-2) versus Chicago.

OVERTIME

1. New Jersey RW Kyle Palmieri (club-best 20 goals) has been held off the scoresheet in four straight contests.

2. Chicago's Erik Gustafsson has set up 11 goals during his eight-game assist streak, which is two contests shy of matching Pierre Pilote (10-game streak, 1961) for the longest by a defenseman in franchise history.

3. The Devils' 21st-ranked power play is mired in an 0-for-18 drought.

PREDICTION: Blackhawks 3, Devils 2

St. Louis Blues vs. Washington Capitals Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

Blues vs. Capitals Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

The St. Louis Blues have used the inspiration of a 25-year-old rookie goalie to climb out of last place in the Central Division and look to notch their fifth win in seven games when they visit the Washington Capitals on Monday night. Jordan Binnington allowed just two goals while winning his first three starts during the current revival for the Blues, including 21 saves in Saturday's 3-1 victory at Dallas.

"His focus, his energy in what he's doing right now, it's nice," St. Louis center Ryan O'Reilly told reporters of Binnington, who has a .941 save percentage in five appearances. "I think it's kind of contagious. You feed off it - that's the big thing." While Binnington's play has been outstanding, veteran goalie Jake Allen started the 4-2-0 stretch with 23 saves in a 5-2 home victory over Washington on Jan. 3 and it is uncertain which netminder will go Monday with the Blues playing at the New York Islanders on Tuesday. The Metropolitan Division-leading Capitals may have to go with backup goalie Pheonix Copley after No. 1 Braden Holtby left Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to Columbus when he took a stick to his left eye in the second period, but the former Vezina Trophy winner practiced Sunday. Washington was still able to extend its point streak to five games (3-0-2) and coach Todd Reirden told reporters: "It's an important point. I thought (Columbus) played a very desperate, urgent game. We weren't on top of our game as well as we have been."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Midwest (St. Louis), NBCS Washington, Sportsnet East, Sportsnet Ontario, Sportsnet Pacific

ABOUT THE BLUES (19-20-4): Right wing Vladimir Tarasenko registered his first two-goal performance Saturday since late October and has three to go along with two assists in five January games, telling reporters: "There's way more goals before I'm relieved." O'Reilly tops the team with 42 points, including three goals and seven assists over the past nine contests, while fellow forward David Perron boasts a 10-game point streak. Oskar Sundqvist has stepped up to post a goal and three assists in the past two games with fellow forwards Alex Steen (shoulder), Tyler Bozak (concussion) and Robert Thomas (shoulder) out.

ABOUT THE CAPITALS (27-12-5): The team has gained plenty of confidence in Copley (10-2-3, .916 save percentage) and Reirden told reporters: "We're testing him with a lot of stuff this year and he's again passed with flying colors." Captain Alex Ovechkin leads the NHL in goals (32) and the team in points (50) after scoring twice and setting up two others the last four games while center Nicklas Backstrom (34 assists) was held to one point the last five games. Evgeny Kuznetsov, who scored a career-best 27 times in 2017-18, snapped a 17-game goal drought with his eighth of the season in Saturday's loss.

2. St. Louis recalled Fs Jordan Kyrou and Jordan Nolan from the American Hockey League for more depth up front.

3. The Blues snapped a five-game losing streak against the Capitals with the victory earlier this month.

Colorado Avalanche vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NHL Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

The Colorado Avalanche's pronounced woes on the road grow worse with each passing game while the Toronto Maple Leafs haven't been too keen about their recent performances at home, either. The Avalanche bid to end a seven-game road losing skid on Monday when they visit Scotiabank Arena to face the Maple Leafs, who fell for the fourth time in their last five home contests with Saturday's 3-2 setback versus Boston.

"We have to come together and figure a way out of this. And I have no doubt we will, but nonetheless it's frustrating," said Colorado captain Gabriel Landeskog, who saw his run of three straight contests with multi-point performances come to a halt in Saturday's 3-0 setback in Montreal. The Avalanche, who have lost nine of 10 overall (1-7-2), surrendered 15 goals during the first three contests of its five-game Canadian trek. The Avalanche may need to vent their frustrations at Frederik Andersen, who told reporters on Sunday that he feels ready to end his eight-game absence due to a groin injury. Although the 29-year-old Dane is optimistic, Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock said he has to refer to the training staff before a decision will be made on his starting goaltender against the Avalanche.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, Altitude (Colorado), TSN4 (Toronto)

ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (20-17-8): Carey Price and the Canadiens brought a halt to four separate point streaks by Colorado players, namely Nathan MacKinnon's eight-game run in which he scored five goals and set up six others. The 23-year-old scored a goal and set up two others in Colorado's 4-3 overtime win over Toronto on Dec. 29, 2017. Linemates Landeskog (three goals, three assists) and Mikko Rantanen (three goals, three assists) as well as defenseman Erik Johnson (one goal, two assists) saw their respective three-game point streaks come to a close Saturday as well.

ABOUT THE MAPLE LEAFS (28-14-2): While Auston Matthews has scored just one goal in his last nine games and fellow forward William Nylander has just one tally in his 16 contests this season, Nazem Kadri cautioned that the noise surrounding individual players' troubles will fall on deaf ears. "Complaining and saying you're unlucky and feeling sorry for yourself isn't going to do much," the 28-year-old Kadri told TSN. "So you just have to have that work ethic, have that positive mentality and be able to turn that page every game." Matthews has five points (one goal, four assists) over his last five games overall and scored twice in four career contests with Colorado.

OVERTIME

1. Toronto G Garret Sparks was medically cleared to return after sustaining a concussion during a practice.

2. Avalanche G Semyon Varlamov improved to 4-3-2 in his career versus the Maple Leafs after turning aside 31 shots in the win on Dec. 29, 2017.

3. The Maple Leafs' eighth-ranked power play is 6-for-46 in the last 17 games.

Montreal Canadiens vs. Boston Bruins Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NHL Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

The Boston Bruins are heating up at just the right time, as the club has won six of seven to reside within two points of second place in the Atlantic Division. The Bruins bid to continue their sizzling stretch on Monday when they host the Montreal Canadiens at TD Garden in the finale of the four-game season series between the Original Six rivals.

David Pastrnak, who is set to play in his 300th career NHL contest on Monday, scored the eventual game-winning tally in Saturday's 3-2 triumph at Toronto to boost his team-leading total in goals (26) and points (53). The 22-year-old Czech had a pair of assists in Boston's 4-0 romp at the Bell Centre on Dec. 17 as the road team improved to 3-0-0 in the season series. Former Hart and Vezina Trophy recipient Carey Price was on the losing end of that contest but recorded his second shutout in five outings after turning aside all 28 shots he faced in Saturday's 3-0 victory versus Colorado. The 31-year-old owns a sterling 25-13-5 mark with two shutouts in his career versus Boston, however fellow netminder Jaroslav Halak has had his number by winning all five head-to-head encounters.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network, TSN2, RDS (Montreal)

ABOUT THE CANADIENS (24-17-5): Brendan Gallagher answered an eight-game goal drought by scoring in back-to-back contests to raise his team-leading total to 17 before being held in check against the Avalanche. The 26-year-old, who joined Phillip Danault on top line with Jonathan Drouin on Saturday, scored in Montreal's 3-0 road victory over Boston on Oct. 27 to boost his point total to 20 (seven goals, 13 assists) in 25 career matchups before failing to dent the scoresheet in the last two battles. Max Domi, who has a club-best totals in assists (25) and points (39), also scored in the Canadiens' win over the Bruins in October.

ABOUT THE BRUINS (26-15-4): David Krejci has scored in back-to-back games to boost his point total to five (two goals, three assists) in six contests this month. The recent strong surge comes on the heels of the 32-year-old answering an eight-game point streak - during which he scored in Boston's 4-0 win over Montreal on Dec. 17 - with four straight games of failing to notch a point. Brad Marchand scored in that contest versus the Canadiens to ignite a stretch of 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in nine games before being held off the scoresheet in each of his last two outings.

OVERTIME

1. Montreal's league-worst power play is 1-for-20 in the past seven games.

2. Ten of LW Jake DeBrusk's 14 goals have been scored in Boston wins this season.

3. Canadiens LW Tomas Tatar has been held off the scoresheet in five of his last six games on the heels of collecting seven points (two goals, five assists) in his previous four.

Buffalo Sabres vs. Edmonton Oilers Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NHL Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

The Buffalo Sabres were one of the biggest surprises in the NHL the first two-plus months of the season, but are suddenly sitting outside of playoff position as they begin a three-game Western Canada trip against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night. The Sabres fell to 2-5-1 after coughing up three unanswered goals in the third period of a 5-3 setback against league-best Tampa Bay on Saturday.

"Sure, there's frustration," Buffalo top-line wing Sam Reinhart told reporters after scoring his 10th goal Saturday. "But we're right there. There's no time to dwell on it. We're right in the hunt. That's where we wanted to be at the start of the year." The Sabres, who will have an 11-day break after the trip, have won four in a row against the Oilers -- including a 5-0 victory at Edmonton last season, and are 9-2-1 against Pacific Division foes in 2018-19. The Oilers are battling for a playoff position in the Western Conference despite a 3-9-0 stretch, including a 3-2 loss to Arizona on Saturday, with two-time reigning Art Ross Trophy winner Connor McDavid (67 points) leading the way. "It seems to be the story of the last few games, but at this point there are no more excuses," Edmonton goalie Cam Talbot told reporters. "We have to be better. We can't allow those bounces to beat us every night."

TV: 9 p.m ET, TVA, MSG Buffalo, Sportsnet West (Edmonton)

ABOUT THE SABRES (23-16-6): Captain Jack Eichel registered eight shots on goal in Saturday's loss, but is stuck on a team-high 49 points during a four-game drought - sandwiching a three-game injury absence. Jeff Skinner boasts a team-high 30 goals, including four in five games this month, while Reinhart has four points in the same span after scoring on his only shot Saturday. Veteran goalie Carter Hutton, who was rested on Saturday in favor of backup Linus Ullmark, must snap out of a rough stretch in which he has won in just two of his last 11 appearances.

ABOUT THE OILERS (21-21-3): McDavid turned 22 on Sunday and boasts 323 career points, sixth-most in NHL history before that birthday behind only Wayne Gretzky (640), Dale Hawerchuk (423), Sidney Crosby (397), Mario Lemieux (348) and Jimmy Carson (325). The key for Edmonton will be supporting him and fellow All-Star Leon Draisaitl (23 goals, 54 points), who managed two shots combined the last three games. Talbot has started four straight contests, going 2-2-0 with a .913 save percentage, while Mikko Koskinen gave up six goals on 27 shots in his last two appearances.

OVERTIME

1. Edmonton D Darnell Nurse recorded a goal and three assists in his last four contests to push his season total to 22 points.

2. Buffalo rookie D Rasmus Dahlin posted four assists in the last three games with a plus-2 rating.

3. The Oilers are 1-of-13 with the man advantage over the last six games and surrendered three power-play tallies in seven tries over the past three.

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. Indiana Hoosiers Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NCAAB Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

A return home Thursday proved to be just what Nebraska needed to end its first two-game losing streak of the season. No. 24 Indiana hopes the same proves to be true for itself Monday when the Hoosiers attempt to move to 11-0 at home and post their first victory over the Cornhuskers in nearly three years.

Indiana made all 16 of it free throws and committed only seven turnovers Friday, but the Hoosiers allowed 18 offensive rebounds and surrendered 16 consecutive points early in the second half en route to a 78-75 setback at Maryland. "We just couldn't get it done on the glass tonight. We just gave them 18 second shots and that was the difference in the game," coach Archie Miller said. Nebraska also dropped a heartbreaker at Maryland on Jan. 2 (74-72) and fell to 0-3 on the road in Big Ten play four days later at No. 25 Iowa before ending its short skid with a 70-64 victory against Penn State, setting a school record with its 20th straight win at home. "(Assistant Coach) Jim Molinari said ... 'the hardest thing when you have a good team but you've lost a couple in a row ... is win a game', and it's true. I just thought we were a little uptight, and you can see that," coach Tim Miles said.

TV: 6:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

ABOUT NEBRASKA (12-4, 2-3 Big Ten): Miles praised 6-8 junior Isaiah Roby, who finished with a career-high 22 points and set or tied season highs in both rebounds (11) and blocked shots (four) in 38 minutes en route to his first double-double of the season. "I just want to start with Isaiah. You can see why he's such a special kid and a special player. He was the one guy that I thought had great energy, great body language and was aggressive the whole night through," Miles said. Roby moved into a tie for eighth place on the school's all-time list with 113 blocks following Thursday's effort, while Glynn Watson Jr. had 19 points to tie Chuck Jura (1,255) for 16th place in school history.

ABOUT INDIANA (12-4, 3-2): Romeo Langford (team-high 18.8 points, 5.5 rebounds), who ranks fourth in the conference in scoring, continued his banner freshman season by scoring 20 of his 28 points in the second half Friday and was responsible for more than half of his team's free throws (nine). Sophomore forward Justin Smith (8.5, 4.1) finished with eight points on 4-of-6 shooting but was limited to 22 minutes due to foul trouble, and Miller cited his absence as a major factor in the loss to Maryland. "What really hurt us was Justin Smith's unfortunate fouls. When he was on the floor, we were plus-22 in the game. His inability to stay in there, those fouls, hurt us," Miller said during a post-game radio interview.

TIP-INS

1. Indiana ranks second in the country in field-goal percentage (Big Ten-best 51.8), while the Cornhuskers are second in the conference and 18th in Division I in field-goal percentage defense (38.4).

2. Nebraska had only eight turnovers Thursday and has committed 10 or fewer in nine of its last 11 contests.

3. The Hoosiers have won 12 of 18 all-time meetings, but the Cornhuskers have won the last two.

Syracuse Orange vs. Duke Blue Devils Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NCAAB Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

Second-ranked Duke puts its nine-game winning streak on the line when it hosts Syracuse on Monday in a matchup of two iconic programs and coaches. It's a quick turnaround for both teams after playing ACC contests on Saturday.

Freshman sensation RJ Barrett scored 32 points in the Blue Devils' 80-78 win at Florida State on Saturday. Duke needed a 3-pointer as time expired to escape versus the Seminoles and claim its fourth victory over a top-15 team. Conversely, the Orange had their four-game winning streak snapped with a 73-59 home loss to Georgia Tech. The Blue Devils won two meetings between the squads last season, including a 69-65 triumph in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN

ABOUT SYRACUSE (11-5, 2-1 ACC): The Orange rank among the top 20 in the nation in scoring defense (61.7 points per game) and field-goal defense (39.1 percent), but they allowed Georgia Tech to shoot a season-high 59.5 percent. Syracuse isn't good enough offensively to afford that type of defensive lapse. Only three players - guard Tyus Battle (17.1 points) and forwards Elijah Hughes (15) and Oshae Brissett (13.9) - average more than seven points per game.

ABOUT DUKE (14-1, 3-0): Barrett (23.4 points, 6.3 rebounds) and fellow freshman Zion Williamson (20.3, 9.4) form the only pair of teammates in the nation averaging more than 20 points per contest. They are one half of Duke's outstanding freshman class that also includes 3-point specialist Cam Reddish (13.3 points) and point guard Tre Jones (8.5, 5.9 assists), who ranks second in the country with a 5.93 assist-to-turnover ratio. The Blue Devils also have been dominant at the defensive end - especially in the paint, where they lead the nation with an average of 7.9 blocks.

TIP-INS

1. Duke's Mike Krzyzewski (1,114) and Syracuse's Jim Boeheim (937) rank first and second, respectively, in NCAA Division I history for coaching wins.

2. Hughes has scored in double figures in nine straight games.

3. Blue Devils F Javin DeLaurier has made 18 consecutive field-goal attempts, leaving him two shy of tying the ACC record set by Duke's Alaa Abdelnaby during the 1988-89 season.

Florida State Seminoles vs. Pittsburgh Panthers Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NCAAB Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

No. 13 Florida State will have just a little more than 48 hours to put a heartbreaking loss to No. 2 Duke behind it before taking on a much-improved Pittsburgh team on the road Monday. The Seminoles, who lost their ACC opener at No. 1 Virginia before taking down Miami, led Duke 78-77 late before Blue Devils freshman Cam Reddish drained an open 3-pointer with less than a second remaining after the Seminoles couldn't corral missed free throw by Duke.

"You don't want to take any moral victories away," Florida State coach Leonard Hamilton told reporters. "We had a chance, and we got beat by a team that played a little better than we did. ... We've got to be sure we recharge our batteries and get focused again. Because we can't go on the road now and come back without a 'W.'" Pittsburgh, which snapped a 23-game losing streak in ACC play with an 89-86 overtime victory over Louisville on Wednesday, couldn't hold a four-point lead at North Carolina State with just over six minutes left Saturday, surrendering four consecutive 3-pointers down the stretch in dropping an 86-80 decision. "I don't think we got overwhelmed," coach Jeff Capel told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I think they just made some shots and made some plays. They're a good team. They're ranked (AP) 15th in the country for a reason. They're good. They made a run, we couldn't get stops in that moment and we missed some shots. Sometimes, that happens, especially when you're on the road." N.C. State outrebounded Pitt, one of the weaker rebounding teams in the ACC, 25-14 in the second half and the Panthers committed 17 turnovers for the game to drop to 0-4 on those occasions.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPNU

ABOUT FLORIDA STATE (13-3, 1-2 ACC): Sophomore reserve Mfiondu Kabengele tied his career high with 24 points in just 25 minutes of action and added 10 rebounds for his third career double-double. Phil Cofer, who scored 28 at Duke last season, tallied 21 on 8-of-13 shooting with seven rebounds. On a team that has nine players average between five and 12 points, Kabengele leads in scoring at 12 points per game to go with 5.2 rebounds, while senior Terance Mann contributes 11.6 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds.

ABOUT PITTSBURGH (11-5, 1-2): Freshman guard Xavier Johnson (17.0 points, 4.9 assists) led the Panthers with a season-high 25 points, converting 8-of-12 from the field and 9-for-11 from the free-throw line, scoring 20 for the sixth time to tie a freshman school record. Fellow rookie Au'Diese Toney (10.1 points, 5.9 rebounds) added 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting, including 2-of-2 beyond the arc, and six rebounds while sophomore Terrell Brown (5.8 points, 2.4 blocks) finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and four blocks - his fourth consecutive game with at least four blocks. A third freshman, Trey McGowens (13.4 points, 2.3 steals), who set a school freshmen record with 33 points against the Cardinals and was averaging 22.5 points on 65.3 percent shooting and 4.3 steals over his previous four games, scored just seven points on 2-of-9 shooting but added five rebounds, a season-high seven assists and one steal.

TIP-INS

1. Pitt leads the all-time series 12-4, including 7-1 at home, but the teams have split six meetings since the Panthers joined the ACC in 2012-13. Florida State won last year's matchup 88-75 as five current Seminoles scored in double figures, led by P.J. Savoy's 18 points and five 3-pointers.

2. The Panthers are 0-3 on the year against ranked opponents and have lost 13 consecutive games to teams ranked in the AP Top 25, including the last six at home.

3. A freshman has led Pitt in scoring in each of the past 12 games.

Wisconsin Badgers vs. Maryland Terrapins Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NCAAB Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

Maryland looks to continue its stellar start to the new calendar year when it hosts Wisconsin on Monday. The Terrapins, who have won four consecutive games in January, including an impressive 78-75 victory against No. 24 Indiana on Friday, hope to stay within striking distance of first place in the conference standings and extend their winning streak to six games by knocking off Wisconsin for the second straight time in the regular season.

"We're getting better and we've really improved since Christmas as we wouldn't have won that game before Christmas," Maryland coach Mark Turgeon told reporters. "I think you can see us getting more comfortable and winning some big games." Wisconsin is heading in the wrong direction following an 84-80 home overtime loss to Purdue on Friday. The Badgers' hot start seems like a distant memory after dropping three of their last four games, including a pair at home where they had won their previous six contests, and hope to avoid falling out of contention in the Big Ten race by taking down the Terrapins for the fourth time in five meetings. "That's another loss on our record that we definitely beat ourselves," Wisconsin point guard Brad Davison told reporters. "It has to be a learning curve because with conference play started we've got to figure it out and get better from it."

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

ABOUT MARYLAND (14-3, 5-1 Big Ten): Bruno Fernando racked up a career-high 25 points on 11-of-12 shooting from the floor and pulled down 13 rebounds in the win against Indiana to register his fifth double-double in the last six games. Anthony Cowan Jr. also had a big night as he poured in 24 points to go along with seven assists and five rebounds as the Terrapins rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat the Hoosiers. Eric Ayala added 14 points while Jalen Smith, who is averaging 12.3 points per game, was limited to two on 0-of-9 shooting from the field, but pitched in with 10 rebounds.

ABOUT WISCONSIN (11-5, 3-2): Ethan Happ produced 31 points, 13 rebounds and six assists en route to his Big Ten-leading 11th double-double of the season, but committed nine of the Badgers' season-high 17 turnovers in the loss to Purdue. "We've been pretty solid in taking care of the ball so when that transpires it's unacceptable," Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said. "We've been so good in that area and to have that rear its ugly head was disappointing." D'Mitrik Trice knocked down four 3-pointers and finished with 17 points while Davison scored 13, but the Badgers went down despite shooting 53.6 percent from the floor.

TIP-INS

1. Maryland has won 13 of its last 16 home games.

2. Happ is averaging 21.8 points and 9.8 rebounds over his last five games.

3. Fernando has posted nine double-doubles this season.

Texas Longhorns vs. Kansas Jayhawks Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NCAAB Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

Ninth-ranked Kansas has bounced back from a 17-point loss at Iowa State to win two straight games heading into Monday night's contest with visiting Texas. The Jayhawks, who are trying for their 15th consecutive Big 12 regular season title, come in off a 73-68 win at Baylor on Saturday and enter Monday's game in second place, a game behind Texas Tech.

Both Kansas coach Bill Self and Texas coach Shaka Smart complained about their team's lack of toughness after their games on Saturday. "They kicked our butts on the glass for 36 minutes and destroyed us the last four," Self said noting that Baylor, which cut a 23-point Jayhawks lead to just four with 26 seconds left, finished with a 49-30 rebounding edge. "We were soft. We got punked on the glass." Texas dropped its second straight game with a 68-62 home loss to first-place Texas Tech -- the Red Raiders' first win in Austin since the 1995-96 season -- despite finishing with a 37-30 edge on the boards and a 30-26 advantage in points in the paint. "Today, I thought we had a few guys that weren't aggressive enough," Smart told Hookem.com. "It's a 40-minute fight. It's not always going to go pretty."

TV: 9 p.m. ET, ESPN

ABOUT TEXAS (10-6, 2-2 Big 12): Senior guard Kerwin Roach II had a team-high 17 points on 6-of-13 shooting in the loss to Texas Tech, and 6-11 freshman forward Jaxson Hayes added 15 points but the other three Longhorn starters -- guards Matt Coleman III (8 points), Elijah Mitrou-Long (6) and forward Dylan Osetkowski (2) -- combined for just 16 points on 6-of-22 shooting. "We have to turn the page quickly," Smart said. "Thing about going to Kansas is you understand how hostile that environment is. You have to have leadership." Roach leads the team in scoring (13.6 per game) and assists (3.6) while Hayes and Coleman also are averaging in double figures with averages of 10.1 points per contest.

ABOUT KANSAS (14-2, 3-1): Senior guard Lagerald Vick celebrated his 22nd birthday at Baylor with 18 points, going 6-of-8 from 3-point range, and also became the 61st player in KU history to top the 1,000-point mark in the process. Junior forward Dedric Lawson, who leads the team in scoring (19.3) and rebounding (10.8), finished with 17 points, five blocks and a career-high five steals while freshman guard Devon Dotson added 14 points, five rebounds and five assists. Vick (14.8 points) and Dotson (11.1) join Lawson as starters who are averaging in double figures.

TIP-INS

1. Kansas has started 3-1 or better in Big 12 play for the 13th straight season.

2. The Jayhawks are 31-8 against Texas and have won 14 of the last 15 meetings.

3. Coleman has 19 assists and just three turnovers in four Big 12 games.

Baylor Bears vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys Preview and Predictions 2019-01-14

NCAAB Predictions 13th January 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 01/13/2019

Oklahoma State has notched back-to-back wins to even its Big 12 record at .500 after a 0-2 start. The Cowboys will try to add to that momentum Monday night when they host Baylor.

Victories over Texas (61-58 on Tuesday) and West Virginia (85-77 on the road Saturday) have followed losses to Iowa State (69-63) and Oklahoma (74-64) for Oklahoma State. Baylor, meanwhile, has fallen on the road to TCU (85-81) and at home to No. 9 Kansas (73-68 on Saturday), sandwiched around a 73-70 home victory over No. 21 Iowa State. And, now both the Cowboys and Bears find themselves in an early Big 12 logjam in which eight of the conference's 10 teams have two or more losses. Only eighth-ranked Texas Tech (15-1, 4-0) and the Jayhawks (14-2, 3-1) are currently above the fray.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, ESPNU

ABOUT BAYLOR (9-6, 1-2 Big 12): The Bears didn't have quite enough Saturday to knock off a second-straight ranked conference foe at home as their second-half surge came up short against Kansas. It was Baylor's first game without second-leading scorer and national field-goal percentage leader Tristan Clark (14.6 points per game, 73.7 percent), who underwent knee surgery following the win over the Iowa State and will miss the remainder of the season. Clark also was the team's third-leading rebounder with 6.3 per contest, and guards Makai Mason (14.8 points), King McClure (9.8) and Mark Vital (6.3 points, team-leading 7.3 rebounds) will try and pick up the slack.

ABOUT OKLAHOMA STATE (8-8, 2-2): Freshman guard Isaac Likekele scored a season-high 23 points and pulled down nine rebounds Saturday at West Virginia as the Cowboys extended the woes of the conference's only winless team. Forward Cameron McGriff posted his fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds and continues to pace the team with 13.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per outing. Guards Lindy Waters (11.7 points) and Thomas Dziagwa (10.7) also are averaging double figures for Oklahoma State, which is pacing the conference with a 38.1 accuracy rate from 3-point range.

TIP-INS

1. Baylor has won 11 of the last 15 meetings, including six straight.

2. The Bears look to have a definite edge on the glass as they enter the game second in the Big 12 with a 7.1 average rebound margin while Oklahoma State ranks last at 0.6.

3. Dziagwa (45.0 percent) and Waters (43.2) rank third and fourth, respectively, in Big 12 3-point percentage while combining to drain 81-of-183 attempts on the season.

Big Monday Tip Sheet
David Schwab

The third week of January kicks things off with a trio of great matchups this Monday night across the ACC, Big Ten and Big 12. As part of ESPN’s Big Monday, Syracuse will be on the road against Duke as the first featured game of the night.

A little later on FOX Sports 1, Wisconsin takes on Maryland in College Park. The night’s action on ESPN wraps up with Texas squaring off against Kansas at Allen Fieldhouse.

Syracuse Orange at No. 1 Duke Blue Devils (ESPN, 7:00 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: No Overnight

Betting Matchup

Syracuse is coming off Saturday’s 73-59 loss to Georgia tech as a nine-point home favorite. This snapped a four-game winning streak both straight-up and against the spread. The total went OVER 129 points in that loss after staying UNDER in nine of its previous 11 games. The Orange are 11-5 SU and 8-8 ATS overall with a 2-1 record (SU and ATS) in early ACC play. Syracuse is averaging 70.2 points per game while holding opposing teams to 61.7 PPG.

The Blue Devils squeezed past Florida State 80-78 with a last-second three-point shot on Saturday, but the big story for Monday night could be the playing status of freshman phenom Zion Williamson. He missed the second half of that game due to an eye injury. Duke failed to cover against the Seminoles as a 7 ½-point road favorite and the total ended as a PUSH on a closing line of 158 points. This was the first time Duke (14-1 SU, 10-5 ATS) failed to cover in its last six games.

Betting Trends

-- The Orange are 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games and the total has gone OVER in five of their last six Monday games.

-- The Blue Devils have gone 5-1 ATS in their last six games on Monday and the total has stayed UNDER in eight of their last 12 ACC games.

-- The home team is 4-1 SU in the last five meetings with Syracuse holding the slight 3-2 edge ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in four of the last five meetings at Duke.

Wisconsin Badgers at Maryland Terrapins (FS1, 8:30 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Maryland -3, Total 136 ½

Betting Matchup

With Friday’s 84-80 overtime loss to Purdue at home as a three-point favorite, Wisconsin has lost three of its last four games both SU and ATS. It is 3-2 SU (2-3 ATS) in the Big Ten with the total staying UNDER in three of those five games. The Badgers (11-5 SU, 8-8 ATS) have failed to cover in seven of their last 11 games. Senior forward Ethan Happ leads the team in scoring with 20.0 points per game and he put up 31 in Friday’s loss after scoring 22 points in his previous game against Penn State.

Maryland moved to 5-1 SU in conference play with Friday night’s 78-75 victory against Indiana. The Terrapins failed to cover as five-point home favorites and the total went OVER 143 ½ points. They are 4-2 ATS in those six Big Ten games and the total has gone OVER in their last seven outings overall. Maryland has scored at least 74 points in each of those last seven games while allowing an average of 70 points during this same span.

Betting Trends

-- The Badgers have covered in 10 of their last 12 road games and the total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six games following a SU loss.

-- The Terrapins are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five home games with the total going OVER in all five contests.

-- The road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in the last four meetings at Maryland.

Texas Longhorns at No. 7 Kansas Jayhawks (ESPN, 9:00 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Kansas -8, Total 139 ½

Betting Matchup

Texas has lost its last two games SU and ATS closing as favorites against Oklahoma State on the road and Texas Tech at home. It is an even 3-3 SU (2-4 ATS) in its last six games as part of a 10-6 (6-10 ATS) record overall. The Longhorns opened play in the Big 12 on Jan. 2 with a 67-47 romp over Kansas State as slight two-point road underdogs. They are 3-1 ATS this season when closing as underdogs. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five games.

With Saturday’s 73-68 victory against Baylor as a 4 ½-point road favorite, Kansas is 3-1 SU (2-2 ATS) in early conference play. The Jayhawks lost to Iowa State 77-60 as 2 ½-point road underdogs on Jan. 5. They are 14-2 SU overall with an even 8-8 record ATS. The total has gone OVER in 10 of the 16 games. Junior forward Dedric Lawson is Kansas’s leading scorer with 19.3 PPG and he recently posted 31 points in a win against TCU.

Betting Trends

-- The Longhorns are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a SU winning record. The total has stayed UNDER in seven of their last nine games when failing to cover in their previous contest.

-- The Jayhawks have failed to cover in five of their last seven games coming off a SU win. The total has gone OVER in 16 of their last 24 games following a SU win.

-- Texas has covered in its last four road games against the Jayhawks and the total has stayed UNDER in six of the last seven meetings at Kansas.

Monday's Tip Sheet

Game of the Night: Pelicans at Clippers – 10:35 PM EST

Los Angeles (24-18 SU, 24-18 ATS) has been riding a roller coaster of late as the Clippers have won two straight, lost two straight, won three in a row, and have currently dropped consecutive games in this stretch since Christmas. Following a 21-point setback at Denver on Thursday, the Clippers returned home and fell to old friend Blake Griffin and the Pistons on Saturday afternoon, 109-104 as seven-point favorites. Three Clippers finished with 20 points or more, but couldn’t slow down Griffin, who torched Los Angeles for 44 points in his first road game against his former team since getting traded last season.

The Pelicans (20-23 SU, 19-24 ATS) started their five-game road trip with a loss on Saturday at Minnesota, 110-106 as a short favorite. New Orleans was limited to 5-of-25 shooting from three-point range, while scoring only 17 points in the fourth quarter. Anthony Davis led the Pelicans with 30 points and 14 rebounds, but New Orleans fell to 1-6 in the last seven games away from Smoothie King Center.

These two Western Conference squads have split a pair of matchups in New Orleans this season. The Pelicans held off the Clippers in the first matchup in October, 116-109, but finished UNDER the total of 237. L.A. picked up revenge in the second meeting, 129-126 as 1 ½-point underdogs in December. The Clippers shot 59% from the floor, led by 27 points from Tobias Harris, as the game eclipsed the total of 234 ½. Last season, the Pelicans captured both meetings at Staples Center, while New Orleans is 4-2 in the past six matchups since the start of the 2017-18 season.

Unrested Rockets

Houston (24-18 SU, 21-20-1 ATS) dropped to 3-8 ATS the last 11 games as a road favorite following Sunday’s 116-109 setback at Orlando. The Rockets squandered a 12-point lead, while getting outscored in each of the last three quarters to a Magic club that played on the second of a back-to-back after beating Boston on Saturday. James Harden scored 38 points for Houston, but somehow shot 1-of-17 from three-point range, as the Rockets converted 10-of-42 attempts from downtown.

The Rockets seek their third home win this season with no rest, while also going for their third victory against the Grizzlies (19-23 SU, 18-24 ATS). Memphis has dropped seven of its past eight games, including Saturday’s 112-108 defeat at Miami to fall to 1-8 in the previous nine contests away from FedEx Forum. Now, the Grizzlies will be trying to break through against the Rockets for the first time this season as each of the first two meetings finished OVER the total and Houston grabbed the cover as a favorite each time.

Monday, Monday

For the second consecutive Monday, the Celtics and Nets are hooking up. Boston (25-17 SU, 22-20 ATS) cruised past Brooklyn (21-23 SU, 23-21 ATS) a week ago at TD Garden, 116-95 to easily cash as 10 ½-point favorites. The Celtics used balanced scoring as eight different players posted double-figures, paced by Kyrie Irving’s 17 points, while Boston put up at least 30 points in three different quarters. However, the Celtics look to finish off their three-game road trip with a win after losing in the first two stops at Miami and Orlando as a favorite.

The Nets return to Barclays Center where they have won eight of their last nine games. Brooklyn tries to rebound after getting crushed at Toronto on Friday, 122-105 to suffer their third loss in the last month as a double-digit road underdog. The Nets have covered four of their last five as a home underdog, but Brooklyn has dropped 10 consecutive meetings with Boston since January 16, including five straight home defeats.

Staying Golden

The Kings (22-21 SU, 25-18 ATS) look to close out a perfect 3-0 homestand at Golden 1 Center following victories over the Pistons and Hornets. Sacramento has lost seven of its past 11 home contests to Western Conference opponents, including a 113-108 overtime setback to Portland (26-18 SU, 23-21 ATS) on New Year’s Day. The Kings are riding a four-game UNDER streak, while holding three straight foes to 102 points or fewer at home.

The Blazers head to Sacramento with no rest after suffering a 116-113 defeat at Denver on Sunday night. That loss ended a four-game skid, although Portland cashed as 4 ½-point underdogs to improve to 6-2 ATS the past eight contests. Portland has captured four consecutive meetings with Sacramento since last season, while limiting the Kings to 38% shooting back on January 1. The Blazers have seen success with no rest this season by posting a 4-2 SU/ATS mark, but both losses came away from the Moda Center.

Lotte of Losses

Things have unraveled for the Hornets (19-23 SU, 20-22 ATS) on their six-game road trip as Charlotte has posted a 1-4 SU/ATS record in the first five contests. Three of the four losses have come by double-digits, while being held to 97 points or less in the last two defeats at Portland and Sacramento. Since starting the season at 2-0 on the road, the Hornets have dropped 15 of the past 18 games at Spectrum Center, while posting a 2-9 ATS mark in the last 11 on the highway.

Charlotte travels to San Antonio to face the Spurs (25-19 SU, 26-17-1 ATS), who have won seven straight games at AT&T Center. The Spurs dropped the back-end of a home-and-home set with Oklahoma City on Saturday, 122-112, two nights after a thrilling a double-overtime win over the Thunder. San Antonio fell to 15-4 ATS the last 19 games overall, but the Spurs have covered in each of their last 15 home wins dating back to November.

Back on Track

The Jazz (23-21 SU, 22-21-1 ATS) have stepped up following an up and down start to the season, as Utah is 9-4 the last 13 games to pull above the .500 mark. Utah seeks a perfect 4-0 homestand after winning the first three games against the Magic, Lakers, and Bulls, while winning five of the past six at Vivint Smart Home Arena. The Jazz failed to cash in Saturday’s 110-102 victory over Chicago as 12-point favorites as Utah trailed by one point heading into the fourth quarter.

The Pistons (18-23 SU, 18-22-1 ATS) look to capitalize off Saturday’s 109-104 victory over the Clippers as seven-point underdogs. Detroit has dropped five consecutive matchups with Utah since 2017, including a 110-105 setback at Little Caesars Arena on January 5. The Pistons blew an early 18-point lead after one quarter as Detroit fell to 0-5 ATS in the last five meetings with Utah, while they look to end a five-game losing streak off a win.

ASA PLAY ON Free Pick OVER: St Louis at Washington, Monday @ 7:05 PM ET

The St Louis Blues Jake Allen will get the nod tonight in goal since this is the first half of St. Louis' back-to-back situation. That means the Blues red-hot goal-tender Jordan Binnington is expected to play Tuesday against the New York Islanders. Allen has lost his last two starts and he allowed 7 goals on only 31 shots on goal in those two starts. Now Allen has to face the defending Stanley Cup Champion Capitals when Washington is in a foul mood! In other words, the Caps are going to be aggressive here after they lost 2-1 in OT versus Columbus on Saturday plus lost 5-2 at St Louis earlier this month. That sets this one up well for the Capitals to score plenty of goals but don't be surprised if the Blues match the Caps goal for goal. St Louis has won 4 of its last 6 games and has scored 3 or more goals in 5 of their last 6 games. Our forecast here is a 4-3 type game and we'll gladly take advantage of the low total of 5.5 goals posted on this one. Free Pick: OVER at Washington in early evening action Monday.

NBA | Celtics vs Nets
Play on: Celtics -3 -108 at pinnacle

Jack’s Free Pick Monday: Boston Celtics -3
The Boston Celtics will be highly motivated for a victory tonight off two consecutive road losses to the Heat and Magic. They had gone 15-5 SU & 15-5 ATS in their previous 20 games overall. And now they are getting no respect from oddsmakers as only 3-point favorites over the Nets.
This line has been adjusted too much for the Kyrie Irving injury. The Celtics proved last year they didn’t need Irving to win, and they still don’t need him. Of course, in the playoffs they will be better with him than without him, but in the regular season it really hasn’t mattered.
The Nets have some injury issues of their own. Caris LeVert, Allen Crabbe and Jared Dudley are all out, while Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is questionable. And the Nets certainly haven’t been able to figure out the Celtics and won’t stand much of a chance tonight against this motivated Boston team.
The Celtics are a perfect 10-0 SU in their last 10 meetings with the Nets. And with a 3-point spread, they basically just have to win to cover tonight. Boston is 12-4 ATS in its last 16 games playing on one days’ rest. The Celtics are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 games vs. a team with a losing record. The Nets are 0-4 ATS in their last four games vs. a team with a winning record. Bet the Celtics Monday.

# 2 STORMY CALIENTE 4/1

# 7 SAINTLY PRIZE 8/1

# 3 PROVOCATIVES DASHIN 9/2

I think STORMY CALIENTE is a very good choice. Should go to the front end and should never look back. Is a key contender - given the 71 speed figure from his most recent race. Orozco has this gelding running well and is a very good selection based on the quite good speed figures posted in short races recently. PROVOCATIVES DASHIN - Has been racing in the most competitive company of the group as of late. Has run strongly when running a short race.

#9 CHESTER MON (ML=5/1)
#2 GRITTER MAN (ML=15/1)
#7 MARTINKELLY (ML=4/1)

CHESTER MON - Took a class drop last time around the track at Mahoning Valley Race Cour. Johnson keeps him at the same level right here. I think that's a good move. GRITTER MAN - My experienced judgement tells me to be ready for this mount in this event MARTINKELLY - A thoroughbred coming back this promptly after a good outing is a good omen. It looks like Johnson had to know this gelding on December 17th when riding him for the initial time. Back atop again today. Trainer, Ceccato, has been deliberate with this gelding off the layoff. Look for a solid effort today.

Vulnerable Contenders: #10 BANGOR RIDGE (ML=7/2), #3 BRONK (ML=9/2), #11 AMERICAN SPARROW (ML=6/1),

BANGOR RIDGE - This morning-line favorite may be out of condition without any recent workouts. BRONK - Way too far back on December 29th for me to bet on at the probable odds in today's sprint contest. Don't believe this racer will do much running in today's race. That last speed fig was pedestrian when compared with today's class rating. AMERICAN SPARROW - This gelding is always in the money, but just doesn't finish first. Tough to wager on him on the top end.

# 3 LOVETHISBAR 2/1

# 6 BETTER IN LEATHER 5/2

# 2 TOUGH RUNNER 4/1

My pick in this event is LOVETHISBAR. A solid 87 avg class figure may give this mare a distinct class edge against this group. Solid average Equibase Speed Figs in dirt route races make this pony a solid contender. Will almost certainly go to the lead and may never look back. BETTER IN LEATHER - Her 80 average has this mare with among the top Equibase speed figs for this event. Knapp has a sound 18 percent win rate with entries running at this distance and surface. TOUGH RUNNER - This mare has been consistently racing well in her latest outings. Could provide positive dividends based on very good recent speed figs with an average of 75.

#8 DUDLEY STUDLEY (ML=3/1)
#1 PERFECT MAJESTIC (ML=12/1)

DUDLEY STUDLEY - I'm expecting this race horse to run a strong race in today's event. PERFECT MAJESTIC - This horse looks like a possible overlay in this race at morning odds of 12/1. Finished fourth in last race at Turf Paradise but was close at the end. Dropping in class rating points from his December 15th race at Turf Paradise. Based on that data, I will give this animal the advantage. This gelding's last speed rating registered on Dec 15th is at the top in last race speed figs.

Vulnerable Contenders: #10 AIRBORNE MARK (ML=5/2), #2 CECIL THE CAT (ML=9/2), #4 MO ROCK (ML=8/1),

AIRBORNE MARK - Don't think this runner will make an impact in today's event. That last rating was mediocre when compared with today's class rating. CECIL THE CAT - No favorable outcomes for this less than sharp equine in a short distance contest over the last 60 days tells me that this gelding is in a thorny circumstance 9/2 is just too low of a value to take on most any thoroughbred that has run poorly in back to back efforts. The fig last time out doesn't fit very well in this race when I look at the class rating of today's contest. Mark this mount as a likely underlay. MO ROCK - Didn't end up on the board on November 23rd at Turf Paradise. Followed it up with another less than stellar effort.

Play on: UNDER 221½ -109

1* Free NBA Pick on Celtics/Nets UNDER 221.5

Ton of value here with the UNDER in Monday's NBA action that has division rivals Boston and Brooklyn facing off for the second time in a week. These two played last Monday at Boston, which the Celtics won 116-95. Note that game finished well under the mark of 219.5.

The familiarity between these two teams definitely favors a lower scoring game and that's even stronger with the two teams having just played each other, but I think both teams are going to take the intensity up a notch.

Brooklyn comes in off a blowout loss at Toronto and struggled to beat the top tier teams. They are going to lay it all on the line. There's frustration brewing in Boston with them not playing up to expectations and I would expect a big defense effort coming off back-to-back losses at Miami and Orlando. Under has cashed 4 of the last 5 meetings between these two in Brooklyn. Take the UNDER!

The laundry list of injuries for the Rockets just got even longer. Chris Paul and Eric Gordon have already been out for an extended period of time, and now Clint Capela is out tonight with a thumb injury. Capela is one of the most underrated players in the NBA. He does all the dirty work for the Rockets and is quickly becoming one of the best centers in the league. He averages 17.6 PPG, 12.6 RPG and 1.8 BPG and will be missed. The Rockets will now be without three of their top four scorers tonight. Plus they’ll be playing for a second consecutive day after losing in Orlando yesterday. The Grizzlies will want to avenge two losses in the past 30 days to the Rockets, and this will be their best chance to get it with the Rockets short-handed and tired. Give me the Grizzlies.

Play on: Grizzlies +6½ -115 at Bovada

The Houston Rockets looked tired last night in a loss to Orlando and now even more tired host the struggling Memphis Grizzlies on Monday at Toyota Center on the second night of a back-to-back. These kinds of scheduling situations can be advantageous in the right situations based on line value and that's what Im betting we have here this Monday night by backing the Grizzlies plus the points.

NBA Underdogs (MEMPHIS) - cold team - failing to cover the spread in 12 or more of the last 15, with a winning percentage of between 45-55% on the season are 40-25 ATS L/23 seasons for a 69% conversion rate for bettors on the blind.

My money is on Memphis to cash in an easy winner here as a decently priced road dog against the Rockets. Houston ran out of gas in the 4th quarter in their 116-109 loss at Orlando. Now they have to play on no rest against a Grizzlies team that is going to be extremely motivated to play well with how much they have struggled here of late. I just think the Rockets are going to want nothing to do with the physical style of play Memphis will bring to the table in this one. That should allow the Grizzlies to at least hang around and cover. Bet Memphis +6.5!

I'll take my chances here with San Antonio covering the 8.5-point spread against the Hornets. I just feel given how well the Spurs are playing of late, especially at home, and this being such a tough scheduling spot for Charlotte, there's a high chance San Antonio wins here by double-digits.

Spurs are 14-5 in their last 19 games and haven't lost at home in a month. They 18-5 SU and 17-6 ATS at home on the season. For the Hornets, this is the final stop in a 6-game road trip that started back on the 5th. Charlotte is 1-4 so far with the only win coming against the Suns. While they only lost by 7 to the Kings last time out, they lost by 31 at Portland, 19 at Clippers and 13 at Denver. Give me the Spurs -8.5!

NBA | Hornets vs Spurs
Play on: Hornets +8½ -104 at pinnacle

The set-up: The Spurs posted an epic triple OT win over the Thunder at home last Thursday, but they’d stumble in the rematch in OKC on Saturday. I think San Antonio comes in a bit complacent here facing its lowly non-conference opponent. But Charlotte comes in desperate as it looks to snap a three-game slide. The Hornets average 112.1 PPG and they allow 112.3. The Spurs average 112.3 PPG and they allow 109.5.
The pick: The Spurs though have given up an average of 134.5 points over their last two games. Additionally note that Charlotte is already 6-2 ATS this year after losing three of its last four games and 3-1 ATS after two or more consecutive road losses, while SA is already just 1-3 ATS this season as a home favorite in the 6.5 to 12 points range. I’m grabbing the points.

NCAA-B | Baylor vs Oklahoma State
Play on: Oklahoma State -3 -107 at pinnacle

My 1* Free play is on Oklahoma State.
Baylor is 9-6 and Oklahoma State is 8-8.
The Cowboys play with “revenge” here as they’ve lost six-straight in this series and I believe that, combined with a few other factors, will lead the home side to a convincing SU and ATS victory/cover.
Baylor comes in off a 73-68 loss to Kansas last weekend. Jared Butler was a bright spot in the setback with 14 points. Note that the Bears lost the services of forward Tristan Clark to a season ending knee injury and this was their first contest without him in the line-up:
“In conference-only stats, we had the No. 1 offense in the Big 12 and lowest turnover percentage,” Baylor coach Scott Drew assessed recently. “It took us a couple of weeks to get to that when we had everybody healthy, and now we’ve got to do the same thing. But that’s the great thing about a team is it gives other people opportunities to step up. I know everybody on the team was down and upset for Tristan, but we have good leadership and character. These guys want to win and they want to compete, and now they have an opportunity to do that in the Big 12.”
After opening conference play with two straight losses to Iowa State and Oklahoma, the Cowboys have bounced back with consecutive wins over Texas and WVU this past weekend (85-77). Isaac Likekele had 23 points and nine boards in the most recent victory.
I’ll point out as well that Oklahoma State is 7-3 ATS in its last ten vs. the Big 12 conference, while Baylor is just 2-5 ATS in its last seven on the road.
The Cowboys are holding opponents to 30.9 percent shooting from 3-point range and 40.4 percent overall and I have a hard time seeing the Bears competing without Clark in the line-up.
Consider the home side in this one.
Good luck…Larry

NBA | Pistons vs Jazz
Play on: Jazz -8 -108 at pinnacle

The Jazz have won five of their last six with the lone loss coming to the Bucks. Utah is back playing tough defense giving up 95.6 points in its last three games. The Jazz are giving up the third-fewest points in the league. Donovan Mitchell is having a huge January. The Jazz are a tough to play because of their physical defense especially in Utah where it is high altitude. This is made worse for the Pistons. They carry a high fatigue rating in action for the fourth time in six days - all on the road. Detroit had lost to the struggling Lakers by 13 points and to the Kings by 10 points before upsetting the Clippers on Saturday. That was a big motivation game for the Pistons because it marked Blake Griffin facing his old team. Griffin, Andre Drummond and Reggie Jackson all logged more than 40 minutes in that contest. The Pistons have sunk back to being a lottery type team following a good start losing 16 of the past 21 times. Detroit ranks 24th in scoring. The Pistons have failed to break the 100-point barrier in six of their last 16 games. They heavily rely on Griffin and Drummond. But the Jazz have the inside defensive stoppers in Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors to slow down those two. (Editor's note: Stephen Nover is one of the top NBA 'cappers in North America. Stephen is 17-8 on his last 25 premium/free NBA plays and has two NBA plays in addition to this free selection, headed by his January Game of the Month.)

Hornets (+) over Spurs- You want to talk about a one-sided affair this is it. San Antonio who is off a road loss at Oklahoma City is a more than a respectable 18-5 SU at home and 17-6 ATS (NBA's best home ATS record). (Chip's is off his NBA SWEEP (3-0) Sunday and is streaking again in NBA action...Don't miss today's action). Charlotte is just 5-15 SU on the road and 8-12 ATS and are 4-9 ATS in the last 13 meetings. The Hornets are 1-6 SU and ATS in their last seven road games with their only win at Phoenix. Tonight somehow they keep it close...take CHARLOTTE!

Monday's FREE NCAAB WINNER: Baylor.
Game 875.
6:00 pm pst.

Both teams are dealing with an injury to a major contributor here. Baylor is without #2 scorer, Tristan Clark (knee). Oklahoma State may be without their #2 scorer in Michael Weathers, who left the last game with an ankle issue (check status). I put an edge here on a Bears team that has taken 6 in a row in this series and 8 of the L10 meetings (covering L3 straight). Baylor owns the superior defense and by far the stronger boardsmen. Both squads rely upon their depth in the back court, and the Bears have the faster and more talented corps of Guards. Baylor is 5-1-1 ATS the L7 games played at Oklahoma State, 6-0 ATS the L6 games played following a SU loss, and 4-1 ATS the L5 games played overall. Oklahoma State is 1-6 ATS the L7 games played at home, 1-4 ATS the L5 games played following a SU win, and 2-8 ATS the L10 games played overall. Take the Bears. Thank you.
