New York Rangers vs. Buffalo Sabres Preview and Predictions 2019-02-15

NHL Predictions 14th February 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 02/14/2019

The Buffalo Sabres have answered an extremely generous 17-goal start to their seven-game homestand by being rather stingy on the defensive end. After yielding just five tallies in their last three contests, the Sabres look to complete a season-high seven-game homestand in style on Friday when they host the New York Rangers at KeyBank Center.

"I thought we got away from that for a little bit. Now, we're trending in the right direction. We've got one more at home here so hopefully we can carry on and then go on the road and keep this thing going," forward Jason Pominville said. The 36-year-old Pominville scored the go-ahead goal in Tuesday's 3-1 victory over New York Islanders, giving him three tallies on the Sabres' 3-2-1 homestand. While Buffalo resides four points behind Pittsburgh for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference, New York's deficit stands at 11 and the volume of trade talk has only increased with the team losing four of its last six. "I'm keeping a clear mind about things," oft-rumored potential trade target Kevin Hayes said on the heels of Tuesday's 4-3 setback to Winnipeg. "It's not like I'm waiting to be told that I'm traded. We'll all find out soon enough."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, NHL Network, Sportsnet1, Sportsnet East, Sportsnet Ontario, TVAS, MSG (New York), MSG-B (Buffalo)

ABOUT THE RANGERS (24-24-8): Mika Zibanejad, who tallied twice against the Jets, has scored 13 of his team-leading 25 goals in his last 11 contests and 21 of his club-best 56 points in the last 13. "I always say it's nice to see the bounces go in, but we didn't win (Tuesday) so it doesn't really matter," the 25-year-old Swede said. Linemate Mats Zuccarello notched a pair of assists on Tuesday to boost his point total to 19 (five goals, 14 assists) in his past 12 games while Chris Kreider set up a goal versus Winnipeg to net him 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in that same span.

ABOUT THE SABRES (28-21-7): Captain Jack Eichel, who has a team-leading 42 assists and 61 points, set up goals by Jeff Skinner and Pominville to post his third six-game point streak (two goals, six assists) of the season. The 22-year-old became just the second Sabre in the last 20 years to require 53 or fewer games to reach the 60-point plateau (Danny Briere, 51) while his 61 points are three shy of his career high, set in 67 games last season. "Jack's come a long way since I've been here," forward Kyle Okposo said. "He's playing extremely well for us. He's our leader for a reason."

OVERTIME

1. New York G Henrik Lundqvist owns a 21-13-2 mark with two shutouts, a 2.32 goals-against average and .921 save percentage in 37 career encounters with Buffalo.

2. Skinner has three of his team-leading 34 goals in his last six games to reside three shy of his career high, set in 2016-17 with Carolina.

3. The Rangers are 10-for-30 on the power play in their last 11 games and 12-for-13 on the penalty kill in the last six.

PREDICTION: Sabres 3, Rangers 1

Edmonton Oilers vs. Carolina Hurricanes Preview and Predictions 2019-02-15

NHL Predictions 14th February 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 02/14/2019

The Carolina Hurricanes have erupted for 41 goals over their last 10 contests (7-2-1) to remain in hot pursuit for the final wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes, who began that stretch with a 7-4 victory in Edmonton on Jan. 20, look to keep their offense running on all cylinders on Friday when they open a three-game homestand versus the Oilers.

Carolina outscored its opponents 19-9 during its recent 4-1-0 trek to match the best five-game road trip in team history, highlighted by Teuvo Teravainen netting two of his club's four unanswered tallies in Tuesday's 4-1 win over Ottawa. "We've had some good last periods. We're trying to keep those good habits and keep believing in our game. We don't have to do anything special," said the 24-year-old Finn, who has 13 points (seven goals, six assists) in his last 10 contests to help the Hurricanes move within three points of Pittsburgh for the second wild card. Edmonton is trending in the opposite direction, as its setback to Carolina is part of a 1-6-2 skid that has featured coach Ken Hitchcock publicly questioning the resolve of the team. Leon Draisaitl tallied twice in the previous encounter with Carolina to ignite a run of nine goals in an eight-game stretch.

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, Sportsnet West (Edmonton), FS Carolinas

ABOUT THE OILERS (24-27-5): Captain Connor McDavid set up Draisaitl's team-leading 33rd goal in Wednesday's 3-1 setback to the Penguins to extend his point streak to eight games, which began with two assists in the first meeting with Carolina. The two-time reigning Art Ross Trophy recipient, however, was denied on a penalty shot attempt by the quick glove of Penguins goaltender Matt Murray that he believes changed the complexion of the contest. "It's a move I've been trying to do, but I think he knew I was going to do it. I've got to find something new," McDavid said.

ABOUT THE HURRICANES (29-22-6): Like fellow countryman Teravainen, Sebastian Aho also had 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) in his last 10 games to boost his team-leading totals in goals (24), assists (40) and points (64). The 21-year-old joined defenseman Jaccob Slavin in setting up three goals in the first encounter with Edmonton while Andrei Svechnikov (one goal, two assists) also had a three-point performance. Nino Niederreiter tallied twice against the Oilers in his second game since being acquired from Minnesota to ignite a 10-point run (six goals, four assists) in 10 contests.

OVERTIME

1. Edmonton RW Zack Kassian, who scored in the first meeting with Carolina, has 11 of his 14 points this season since Jan. 2.

2. Hurricanes C Jordan Staal returned to practice sporting a yellow no-contact jersey on Thursday after missing the past 23 games while dealing with concussion issues.

3. Oilers C Ryan Nugent-Hopkins has six points (one goal, five assists) in his last five contests.

PREDICTION: Oilers 4, Hurricanes 3

New Jersey Devils vs. Minnesota Wild Preview and Predictions 2019-02-15

NHL Predictions 15th February 2019 by Gracenote
Devils vs. Wild Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 02/15/2019

The Minnesota Wild entered the All-Star break with a three-game winning streak but have lost six of their seven contests since returning (1-4-2). They look to end a three-game slide at home Friday as they host the one team they've defeated this month - the New Jersey Devils.

Minnesota, which began Thursday in the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference, began a four-game homestand with a 5-4 setback against Philadelphia on Tuesday. Rookie center Luke Kunin scored twice in the loss, giving him three goals and four assists over his last five contests. New Jersey, which dropped a 4-2 home decision to the Wild on Saturday, is wrapping up a three-game road trip during which it lost the first two contests by a combined 13-5. The Devils scored the first two goals in Chicago on Thursday before allowing the final five en route to their fifth loss in six overall games (1-4-1).

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, MSG Plus (New Jersey), FS North, FS Wisconsin (Minnesota)

ABOUT THE DEVILS (21-28-8): Travis Zajac ended his six-game point drought Thursday, scoring a goal to land on the scoresheet for the second time in 11 contests. The 33-year-old center is three games shy of 900 in the NHL and seven points away from 500 for his career. Jesper Bratt has recorded a point in five of his last six games after notching an assist against the Blackhawks.

ABOUT THE WILD (27-25-5): Zach Parise, who leads the team with 49 points, has registered one in eight of his last 10 games. The 34-year-old, who spent his first seven NHL seasons with New Jersey, has registered two goals - including one Saturday - and four assists in nine contests against his former club. Defenseman Jared Spurgeon, who ended his three-game drought with a goal and two assists Tuesday, needs one tally to set a career high of 12 and is three points away from matching the personal best of 38 he registered in 2016-17.

OVERTIME

1. Wild C Eric Staal has gone six games without a point and seven without a goal.

2. New Jersey G Keith Kinkaid will be in the crease after Cory Schneider lost Thursday to fall to 0-7-2 this season and 0-17-4 since defeating Detroit on Dec. 27, 2017.

3. Minnesota could be without Cs Victor Rask (lower body) and Matt Hendricks (upper body) as both left Tuesday's game in the second period.

PREDICTION: Wild 3, Devils 1

Boston Bruins vs. Anaheim Ducks Preview and Predictions 2019-02-15

NHL Predictions 14th February 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 02/14/2019

The Boston Bruins have earned points in eight straight games but are heading into perhaps their most difficult stretch of the season without their leading goal scorer. Having won three in a row and five of six, the surging Bruins will play their next five on the road as part of a rugged seven-game stretch with a visit to the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night.

Boston ran its winning streak to three in its first game without 31-goal scorer David Pastrnak with a 6-3 victory over red-hot Chicago with its best offensive output since Jan. 3. "We're going to need contributions from everybody with Pasta going down like that," forward Brad Marchand said. "It's great to see them add so much depth to our group. We need that to continue." The Ducks finally ended an ugly seven-game losing streak with a 1-0 victory over Vancouver on Wednesday as general manager Bob Murray won his NHL coaching debut after firing Randy Caryle. "I thought the emotion was good. I thought the effort was good," Murray said after Anaheim's third victory in 22 games. "We haven't won in a very long time."

TV: 10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet, NESN (Boston), Prime Ticket (Anaheim)

ABOUT THE BRUINS (32-17-8): Marchand had a goal and three assists to boost his team-high point total to 69, but Boston received plenty of secondary scoring versus Chicago -- something that has been lacking all season. Second-line center David Krejci scored twice and set up another tally while Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen also had three-point games with a goal and two assists each. "It's just a matter of me actually going out there and scoring," said DeBrusk, who halted a 13-game goal drought. "It's all good signs, especially with Pasta out right now. Hopefully, we can just keep it going."

ABOUT THE DUCKS (22-26-9): Not only was Anaheim outscored 37-8 during its slide, but it returned home with major issues in net as backup Chad Johnson joined starter John Gibson on injured reserve. Kevin Boyle, who made in 24 saves in relief Saturday at Philadelphia in his NHL debut, received the nod against Vancouver and responded with a 35-save effort to join Gibson as the only goaltenders in franchise history to post a shutout in their first start. "It's something you dream of growing up a little kid playing street hockey," Boyle said. "I can honestly say it's exceeded everything I ever dreamt of."

OVERTIME

1. Boston beat Anaheim 3-1 on Dec. 20 to end a nine-game losing streak in the series.

2. Anaheim captain Ryan Getzlaf has 15 points in 17 games versus Boston.

3. Bruins G Jaroslav Halak made 24 saves to beat the Ducks in December and will make the start Friday.

PREDICTION: Bruins 4, Ducks 2

Friday's Tip Sheet
Kevin Rogers

Buffalo (-2 ½, 156) at Toledo – 7:00 PM EST – ESPNU

Two of the top three teams in the Mid-American Conference hook up on Friday night as both these clubs have eyes on the NCAA tournament. Buffalo (21-3 SU, 13-9-1 ATS) turned heads in last season’s Big Dance by dispatching fourth-seeded Arizona, 89-68 before losing by 20 points to Kentucky in the second round. However, the Bulls are looking to take that next step in the tourney next month, but look to get on track from an ATS standpoint.

The Bulls started MACtion at 5-0, but are 4-2 in the last six games to own a 9-2 conference mark, tying them for the top spot in the Eastern division with Bowling Green. Buffalo has burned bettors lately by putting together a 2-6 ATS mark in the past eight contests, as the Bulls failed to grab a cover as an eight-point road favorite at Akron in Tuesday’s 76-70 victory. CJ Massinburg scored 21 points in the win for Buffalo, as the Bulls have slipped to a 1-4 ATS mark in their last six road affairs.

Toledo (20-4 SU, 14-8-1 ATS) enters Friday’s contest atop the Western division at 8-3, while being the only team on that side of the MAC owning a winning conference record. The Rockets are riding a five-game winning streak, while posting an 8-1 SU and 6-2-1 ATS mark in the last nine contests since getting blown out at Buffalo on January 8. The most recent victory for Toledo came in last Saturday’s 78-71 triumph at Bowling Green to hand the Falcons their second conference loss.

Circling back to Buffalo’s 110-80 rout of Toledo last month, the Bulls opened up a 13-point halftime lead before grounding the Rockets in the second half, 65-48 to easily cash as 9 ½-point favorites. Jeremy Harris posted a career-high 34 points for Buffalo, as the guard has scored 34 points total in the last three games combined. The Rockets own a 4-2 ATS record in the underdog role this season, while receiving points for the first time in 2018-19 at home.

St. Joseph’s at Davidson (-11, 134 ½) – 7:00 PM EST – ESPN2

Three teams have racked up nine wins in Atlantic 10 play, as one of those squads takes the court on Friday. Davidson (18-6 SU, 13-10 ATS) sits atop the league at 9-2, tied with VCU and one-half game ahead of George Mason. The only two A-10 losses suffered by the Wildcats came by one point at St. Joseph’s and a three-point setback at UMass.

St. Joseph’s (11-14 SU, 9-16 ATS) has been a disappointment in conference play at 4-8, but one of those victories took place as a 4 ½-point home underdog against Davidson on January 15 in a 61-60 upset. The Hawks erased a five-point halftime deficit by outscoring Davidson, 35-29 in the second half, capped off by Chris Clover’s go-ahead three-pointer with 1:03 remaining to hand the Wildcats their first conference loss.

The Hawks destroyed Saint Louis last Friday by 30 points as a short home underdog, but St. Joe’s couldn’t capitalize off that upset as it lost, 76-51 to St. Bonaventure on Tuesday at home. Phil Martelli’s team has struggled on the road in conference play by posting an 0-6 SU and 1-5 ATS mark with the lone cover coming in an 85-84 setback at Duquesne as 2 ½-point underdogs on January 12.

Davidson owns a 5-0 SU and 3-2 ATS ledger as a double-digit favorite this season, while failing to cover as 15-point chalk in a 73-62 home win over George Washington last month. St. Joe’s has been listed as an underdog of more than 10 points only once this season, losing to Big 5 foe and defending national champion Villanova, 70-58 as 11 ½-point ‘dogs on December 8.

Friday Night MAACtion

Following an 0-12 start to the season, Monmouth (10-16 SU, 14-12 ATS) has an opportunity to qualify for the NCAA tournament. How is that possible? The Hawks have caught fire in MAAC play by posting a 9-4 mark to sit in first place of the league as they seek their first ever Big Dance berth. Monmouth seeks its fifth straight win as it travels to Rider (12-13 SU, 6-19 ATS), who is on a free-fall of late. The Broncs jumped out to a 7-1 MAAC record before losing five straight, while failing to cash in nine consecutive games. The latest meltdown came in Tuesday’s 98-88 overtime setback at Quinnipiac as the Broncs squandered a seven-point lead with under 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

Canisius (11-13 SU, 11-13 ATS) sits in a second-place tie in the MAAC with Quinnipiac at 8-4 as the Golden Griffins are fresh off back-to-back road wins at Rider and St. Peter’s. The Golden Griffins return home to host Fairfield (7-18 SU, 9-14-2 ATS), who has failed to bust the 50-point mark in three of the last four games. Canisius won at Fairfield last month as three-point underdogs, 73-68, as the Griffins try to improve on a 2-3 home record in the league. The Stags are in the midst of a nine-game UNDER streak, while Fairfield seeks its second road MAAC win six tries this season.

Just like Monmouth, Iona (9-15 SU, 6-18 ATS) started slowly in non-conference play with a 2-9 record. However, the Gaels have put together a 7-6 mark in the MAAC, while coming off consecutive victories over Niagara and Siena by a combined eight points. Prior to those two wins, Iona lost games by one, two, and four points, so this team is a few bounces away from being atop the MAAC. Iona hosts St. Peter’s (6-17 SU, 9-14 ATS), as the Peacocks have won only once in 13 tries on the highway this season. The Peacocks have dropped five straight games, while being limited to 60 points or less in each of those defeats.

Quinnipiac (13-10 SU, 14-8-1 ATS) has heated up lately by winning five of its last six games, including the dramatic comeback late in regulation to stun reeling Rider on Tuesday, 98-88 in overtime. The Bobcats have covered in each game during this three-game hot streak, all in the underdog role. QU is listed as a favorite for only the second time in the last seven contests in Friday’s home contest with Marist (10-14 SU, 12-11-1 ATS). The Red Foxes are looking to avenge a 92-78 home loss to Quinnipiac last month, while Marist has won each of its last two games against Canisius and Niagara.

Niagara (11-14 SU, 13-12 ATS) is going backwards of late by losing three consecutive games, including a 79-76 defeat at Iona as seven-point underdogs on Sunday. The Purple Eagles host Manhattan (7-17 SU, 12-12 ATS), who have played better since a 2-11 start to the season. Included in their last five wins since January 5 is a 90-80 triumph as 2 ½-point home underdogs against Niagara, the fifth victory in the previous six meetings. The Jaspers have covered four straight games and six of their past eight contests, but own a 1-4 road record in the MAAC.

NCAA Weekend Watch (2/16/19)

Who's Hungry for Sandwich Spots?

While revenge was on the menu last week, only one of the four teams mentioned were able to get it done. Only the Michigan Wolverines – who were the biggest favorites to do so – managed to get revenge over a conference rival for a previous loss last Saturday, with Kentucky, Tennessee, and Duke all earning season sweeps over their respective foes. It's situational spots like those that pop up a lot as February draws closer to March, and this Saturday's slate of games is more about potential letdowns and/or trap games for teams.

Outside of the big Tennessee/Kentucky matchup on Saturday, there aren't too many games pitting quality rivals against one another. Those games come in bunches next week, meaning that there are plenty of good teams in some potential bad sandwich spots this week against lesser foes. I'll be outlining a few of those in a minute here, as these ranked squads know they've got bigger things to deal with on the horizon, and it will be interesting to see how the respond to that type of scenario on Saturday.

How tasty will this trip to Wake Forest be for UNC? After Virginia, and prior to Duke

North Carolina at Wake Forest - 12:00 p.m. ET

On paper, giving North Carolina a road trip to Wake on Saturday should see the Tar Heels become a popular betting choice regardless of what the point spread turns out to be. Wake is just 2-9 SU in conference play and have been priced as home underdogs in every ACC game so far this year. That won't change this weekend, and while Wake is a bad team that's hard to make an argument for, they do have the benefit of hosting UNC in what is essentially a fully loaded sandwich spot.

UNC came up short in their home date with Virginia on Monday night, as they couldn't take advantage of a tough turnaround spot the Cavaliers were in that day. The loss snapped a seven-game winning streak for UNC (5-2 ATS), and after needing OT to dispatch of Miami a few days earlier, you knew UNC was looking ahead to that game with Virginia and they couldn't produce.

This weekend the Tar Heels don't have the benefit of being at home against a bad team, and for as much as Wake has struggled in conference play this year, both wins have come at home. UNC will be expected to win by a large margin on paper, but covering a big number is likely going to be tough if the Tar Heels come into this game with one eye looking back to Virginia and the other one looking forward to Duke.

Granted UNC should win this game straight up even if they bring their “B” or “C” game to the party, but I wouldn't put it past the Demon Deacons cashing the ATS ticket should the number be rather larger. Wake closed as a +20.5 underdog at home vs Duke, and +9.5 underdog at home vs Louisville, and I do expect this number to be much closer to that Duke spread in the end. If that's the case, looking at taking all those points with Wake is probably the better way to go.

Will Duke finally get caught in a bad spot? After huge comeback win vs Louisville, and prior to UNC

NC State vs. Duke - 6:00 p.m. ET

Speaking of Duke and Louisville, the Blue Devils staged an incredible comeback win over the Cardinals on Tuesday night as they continue to find ways to win games amidst this very tough stretch in their own schedule. The Blue Devils return home on Saturday night to host a NC State team that's taken a step back of late with a 4-4 SU record in their last eight games, but the Wolfpack are a talented team in their own right, and if they get going on offense, trading blow for blow with Duke won't be a concern from NC State's perspective.

Like Wake Forest, NC State will likely be catching plenty of points in this unfavorable spot for their opponent, as Duke has to have an eye on their first meeting with UNC on deck too. Considering how remarkable and emotional that comeback was in Louisville, just a few days after beating Virginia in Virginia, the question about Duke's gas tank being near empty has got to be asked.

A home game – where Duke is expected to win “easily” would be the perfect spot for the Blue Devils to relax a bit and recharge those gas tanks in the middle of this brutal stretch – and it makes it hard to want to back the Blue Devils as any significant chalk on Saturday.

Does LSU get caught between big games? After win @ Kentucky, before games vs Florida, and Tennessee

LSU vs. Georgia - 6:00 p.m. ET

The blue bloods in the ACC aren't the only teams in undesirable betting spots on Saturday, as the LSU Tigers have their own road game to be concerned about as well. LSU is coming off that controversial road win @ Kentucky this week, and now heads to Georgia to try and knock off a Bulldogs team that is considerably better than their 1-10 SU conference record would suggest.

This game has a lot of similarities to the UNC/Wake game mentioned earlier, as Georgia is sitting in 2nd last place in the SEC and has become a team the rest of the conference expects to roll over when they see them. Given LSU just beat the #5 team in the country on the road, expectations for LSU have grown significantly since that win on Tuesday. Considering the Tigers have a 10-1 SU record in SEC play and their only loss came on a buzzer beater as well, expectations (and likely this spread) were already quite high.

And while Florida may not strike the same fear in opponents in terms of looking ahead to the Gators as that program has in the past, LSU knows their next three games (all at home) are likely going to be the biggest factor in determining whether they can with the conference crown this season. Georgia isn't going to demand that same type of attention/focus from LSU – especially with a 10-point win over the Bulldogs already in the Tigers pocket, and it's not like LSU hasn't shown vulnerability on the road this year.

Yes, there was the road win in Kentucky, but three of LSU's other five road wins in SEC play all needed OT to be decided. The Tigers also closed as underdogs in three of those five road victories, and even their trip to Texas A&M – a comparable foe to Georgia – saw the Tigers close as just a five-point favorite. Having won that game by 15, and adding road wins @ Mississippi State and Kentucky to their resume since then, there should be a sense of urgency to avoid a letdown here.

Davidson -10.5
This play just missed out on our premium card. The Davidson Wildcats and the St. Joes Hawks face off on Friday night and in this game the value lies with the Wildcats.
The key stat to look at in this game is how each defense has performed over the last five games. For the Wildcats they are giving up 59 points per game over the last five games while St. Joes is giving up 71.4 points.
The Wildcats are going to shut down the Hawks offense in this game and that will be enough to come out with a big victory and cover.
Back the Hawks

10* FREE NCAAB PICK (Davidson -10)
I'll take my chances here with the Wildcats turning this into a blowout and winning by more than 10 points. I think a lot of people will be tempted to take St. Joe's for the simple fact that the Hawks upset Davidson on their home floor 61-60 back in January. I think if anything that will just add more fuel to the fire for the Wildcats, who are without a doubt superior team.
What people overlook with that loss to the Hawks is that was a massive letdown spot for Davidson, as they had just won at George Mason and at home against VCU, who are two of the top teams in the Atlantic 10. It's also worth noting that all 4 of St. Joe's conference wins have come at home. They are 0-5 on the road with 4 of the 5 losses coming by 11 or more points. Wildcats are a perfect 11-0 at home and last year when they hosted the Hawks they won 91-62 as a very similarly priced 10.5-point favorite. Give me Davidson -10!

This is the ideal spot to jump on Fairfield as a road dog against the Golden Griffins. Most will be looking to fade Fairfield given they come in off back-to-back double-digit losses and already lost to Canisius at home earlier this season.
However, all of that sets up a massive long-term system. Road underdogs who coming off back-to-back conference losses by 10 or more and revenging a loss as a favorite are a dominant 44-15 (75%) ATS over the last 5 seasons.
On top of that, we see that the Golden Griffins are a mere 2-10 ATS in their last 12 home games, including a 1-7 ATS mark in their last 8 at home vs a team with a losing road record. Canisius is also just 8-22 ATS last 30 games at home when coming off a conference road win. Take Fairfield!

Jack’s Free Pick Friday: Pennsylvania -7.5
I like the spot for Pennsylvania tonight. The Quakers have played four straight road games coming in and will be very happy to be back home on Friday night to host Dartmouth.
The Quakers are 6-2 SU & 5-2 ATS at home this season, outscoring their opponents by 13.7 points per game. I think this is a short number for them to be laying against a Dartmouth team that is 2-6 SU in true road games and losing by 8.7 points per game.
The home team has won eight of the last 10 meetings. Pennsylvania is 18-3 SU in its last 21 home meetings with Dartmouth, including a 74-46 home win last year as 12.5-point favorites. The home team is also 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings. Bet Pennsylvania Friday.

My money is on the Lions to cash in an easy cover here as a near double-digit home dog against the Bulldogs. This looks like a complete mismatch on paper, as Columbia enters having lost 4 straight and are just 6-14 on the season, while Yale comes in riding a 3-game winning streak and are 15-4 overall. These are the type of games that are really hard for teams like the Bulldogs, as they just feel like they need to show up to win. The Lions on the other hand are going to give it their all against arguably the best team in the Ivy League. Over the last 2 seasons, Yale is 0-6 ATS in road games when coming off 2 or more consecutive covers. Bet Columbia +9!

NHL | Rangers vs Sabres
Play on: Rangers +140 at 5Dimes

Scott "The Bulldog" Rickenbach NHL Friday Free Pick New York Rangers Money Line (+) @ Buffalo Sabres @ 7:05 ET - The Rangers are expected to start Alexandar Georgiev in between the pipes and that is one of two keys to the value with this money line underdog. While Henrik Lundqvist has been struggling between the pipes for New York, the Rangers are 2-0 in the last two starts Georgiev has made. Also, he has had just one bad start in his last 5 starts. In those 4 solid starts he has allowed a total of only 6 goals! The Rangers are 3-1 in their last 4 road games and are catching the Sabres at the right time for an upset. Buffalo has been very up and down for two months now. Buffalo enters this game off a win but that means a loss is quite likely here. Why? Because the Sabres, dating back to December 15th (a span of two months) have not won back to back games a single time! In fact, dating back to late November, the Sabres have had just one winning streak (if you can call it that) as they won 2 in a row with victories on the 11th and 13th of December. Buffalo is 8-21 long-term on Fridays (including 2-5 this season). Also, the Sabres are 11-30 long-term (including 4-8 this season) when off a win by a margin of 2 goals or more. You can see why there is great value with a road dog riding a hot goalie in this one! Free Pick NEW YORK RANGERS

NHL | Bruins vs Ducks
Play on: UNDER 5½ -120

I’m playing on the under Bruins/Ducks (FREE PLAY). Boston has won five of its last six. The Bruins have been grinding out the wins, averaging 2.9 goals and allowing 2.6. The Bruins will be wary to not take the wounded Ducks lightly here (note that Boston has allowed three or less goals in seven of its last ten), who broke a seven game slide with a 1-0 win over Vancouver on Wednesday. Whether or not a “new” coach can be the catalyst for the Ducks to really start turning things around is yet to be seen, but there’s no doubt that the latest results were a big step in the right direction. Anaheim averages 2.2 goals and it allows 3.2. Note though that Boston’s already seen the total go under the number in seven of ten road games this year when the total is set at 5.5 and in eight of 12 when playing with two days rest. And it’s not surprising to learn that the low-scoring Ducks have seen the total go under in 21 of 27 non-conference games this season. Consider the under.
