Cross Country Pick Four - Race #2 - Post: 4:27pm - Stakes - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $100,000 Class Rating: 109 Hollie Hughes S.

Rating: Golden DollarGolden DollarGolden Dollar

#10 CELTIC CHAOS (ML=8/1)
#7 EYE LUV LULU (ML=4/1)
#9 HONOR UP (ML=7/2)
#5 BAVARO (ML=8/1)
#2 BUILD TO SUIT (ML=5/2)

CELTIC CHAOS - I expect this thoroughbred to shock some railbirds in today's event. EYE LUV LULU - On board this horse on Jan 5th and Lezcano is right back in the irons in this race. Faces state bred foes today after finishing first versus 'open' company on January 5th. Three consecutive improved speed figures (97-100-108) make this one a strong contender. I think the shorter distance will help this gelding stay the distance. HONOR UP - Based on morning drills, I look for this colt to run a big race. Just view his most recent figure, 109. That one fits well in this field. This colt is clearly on the improve with speed ratings of 97, 106, 109 last 3 out. BAVARO - Rice seems to have this horse primed for a big effort. His workout pattern is outstanding. Getting a break of 6 lbs from last race at Aqueduct. He should make the most of this advantage. BUILD TO SUIT - Jockey hops right back on board after getting to know the horse by riding last time out. That's always a good thing. Carrying 5 pounds less this race. Trainer has him in a good spot. Have to make this horse a serious competitor; he comes off a solid race on Jan 26th.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 SYNDERGAARD (ML=6/1),

SYNDERGAARD - If this affair shapes up right, all the speedballs will force a severe speed battle early. Too bad this animal is one of those front runners.

# 3 EL AVE FENIX 2/1

# 2 EL CONSUL 7/2

# 1 CARINA STAR 20/1

EL AVE FENIX is tough to overlook as the bet in here. Look for a strong pace improvement from this equine who enters on Lasix today. In this field, this one is ranked high in earnings per start in dirt sprint contests. Look for this animal to be close up at the wire versus these racers. EL CONSUL - Some decent numbers have been posted by this trainer's entries running at this distance and surface. With Santiago uptop him, this colt should be able to break out quickly in here.

#9 ARRIVEDERCI (ML=3/1)

ACCOLADE - He got a decent fig the last time he tried this distance. I think that the addition of the 'shades' today will keep his mind on the race at hand. TOP CZAR - Robb brings this colt back into a race rather than a workout. He knows his colt is on top of his game. This horse could be tough this time, especially since Perez rode last race out and now should be better acquainted with this one. Have to make this colt a solid contender; he comes off a good effort on February 7th. ARRIVEDERCI - McMahon brings him right back. I recommend you stick with this hot gelding. The 81 most recent race speed fig looks mighty good on paper. Came home fast last time around the track at Laurel. That type of move bodes well for his chances in this race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 LUNAR BOOGIE (ML=5/1), #6 WE MADE IT (ML=6/1),

LUNAR BOOGIE - The victory on Dec 26th probably isn't good enough to beat these today. WE MADE IT - I cannot play this repeated non-winner. Gets the assignment finished occasionally. Arizona Coyotes vs. Calgary Flames Preview and Predictions 2019-02-18

NHL Predictions 17th February 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 02/17/2019

The Calgary Flames ended their season-high four-game winless skid (0-2-2) in style by erupting for four second-period goals to salvage the finale of four-game, eight-day road trip. The Flames look to keep that fire going on Monday when they open a three-game homestand against an Arizona Coyotes club that they have outscored 13-2 in two encounters this season.

"I don't think it's a sigh of relief. No one in this locker room is worried at all. We're still in (a tie for) first place in the West and we're still as confident as ever," said Sam Bennett, whose goal capped the four-goal frenzy in the second period of Saturday's 5-4 win in Pittsburgh. Veteran goaltender Mike Smith welcomed the offense in that contest in the same manner as he did in a pair of lopsided defeats against his former team, when he turned aside 50 of 52 shots. While Calgary resides tied in points with San Jose atop the Western Conference, Pacific Division-rival Arizona quietly has crept within earshot of the wild-card spot by winning three of four following a five-game skid. "That's how we've got to play," Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet said of his team's conservative performance in Saturday's 2-0 win over Toronto. "We have to play a defend-first, timely-goal, protect-the-middle-of-the-ice type of system and the guys did that."

TV: 4 p.m. ET, FS Arizona, Sportsnet West (Calgary)

ABOUT THE COYOTES (26-27-5): Darcy Kuemper has turned the page following a tough start to the month in which he yielded 12 goals during a three-game losing skid, turning aside 116 of 124 shots to win three of his last four starts. The 28-year-old registered his second shutout of the season and 13th career following his 22-save performance against the Maple Leafs and is expected to get the nod versus Calgary, against which he owns a 2-1-1 mark in four career appearances. "'Kuemps' had to make some saves, had to hold on there, but overall it was a strong 60 (minutes), and if you play 60-minute hockey like that you're going to find yourself on the right side a lot," center Derek Stepan told reporters.

ABOUT THE FLAMES (35-16-7): Captain Mark Giordano notched a pair of assists in Calgary's 6-1 win over Arizona on Nov. 25 before celebrating his 800th career game by scoring two goals and setting up another in a 7-1 romp versus the Coyotes on Jan. 13. The offensive-minded defenseman has collected 33 of his 55 points at home, with 11 coming in his last eight. Johnny Gaudreau has padded his team-leading totals in assists (49) and points (78) by setting up two goals along with scoring one against Arizona this season.

OVERTIME

1. Arizona F Alex Galchenyuk has scored five of his team-leading 13 goals in the last seven games.

2. Flames LW Matthew Tkachuk, who scored twice in his last encounter with the Coyotes, snapped a seven-game point drought with an assist on Saturday.

3. Arizona C Clayton Keller, who owns club-best totals in assists (27) and points (38), has been held off the scoresheet in six of his last eight games.

PREDICTION: Flames 4, Coyotes 1

Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Columbus Blue Jackets Preview and Predictions 2019-02-18

NHL Predictions 17th February 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 02/17/2019

The Columbus Blue Jackets have played some solid hockey on the road of late and hope to enjoy some better home cooking Monday night when they entertain the NHL-best Tampa Bay Lightning. The Blue Jackets have won four in a row away from home after Saturday's 5-2 triumph at Chicago, but dropped four of the last five at Nationwide Arena and were outscored 12-2 in a pair of losses against the Lightning earlier this season.

However, Columbus has been on a positive run overall of late with five wins in six contests to take third place in the Metropolitan Division and the top line of Artemi Panarin, Cam Atkinson and Pierre-Luc Dubois have played a big role. "I think we just played to our strengths," Atkinson told reporters after his trio combined for four goals and two assists Saturday. "I think we did a lot of good reloading, which created a lot of turnovers. ... Our whole line contributed. I think we all did a lot of good things, and we have to continue." That trio will have produce another big effort against Tampa Bay, which boasts three 70-point scorers including the league leader Nikita Kucherov (94) and showed its defensive ability with shutouts from goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy in the last two of a five-game win streak. "I think we're taking a little more pride in our D zone," Lightning forward Yanni Gourde told reporters. "I think we don't allow as (many) scoring chances and obviously Vasy is big time for us back there."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network, Sportsnet, TVA

ABOUT THE LIGHTNING (44-11-4): Vasilevskiy's shutout in the 3-0 win over Montreal on Saturday gave him 18 in his career to pass Ben Bishop for the franchise record and the 24-year-old Russian stopped all 52 shots the past two games. "Fans the last six years have been pretty fortunate to first get to enjoy Ben Bishop and how he helped our franchise and to see Vasilevskiy," coach Jon Cooper told reporters. ". ... Goaltenders can mask a lot of mistakes and those two guys are a big part of our success with this franchise." Kucherov recorded five goals and eight assists the last four games while captain Steven Stamkos has 10 points and fellow center Brayden Point owns nine during five-game point streaks.

ABOUT THE BLUE JACKETS (33-21-3): Panarin has four goals and three assists along with a plus-5 rating in the last four games to push his team-leading total to 67 points while Atkinson scored three of a team-best 32 goals in his past four outings. Dubois had a goal and an assist Saturday to move within one point of 100 in his career and fellow forward Josh Anderson boasts four goals in the past six games to reach 20 for the first time in the NHL. Seth Jones leads the defense with 36 points, including five assists in his past six outings, while fellow blue liner Ryan Murray has a career-high 29 points after posting four assists in the past three games and leads the team with a plus-20 rating -- plus-7 in his last seven contests.

OVERTIME

1. Kucherov needs one assist to tie the franchise record in a season of 68 set by Hall of Famer Martin St. Louis and Brad Richards.

2. Blue Jackets F Kole Sherwood, a Columbus native, had four hits in 6 minutes, 58 seconds of ice time during his NHL debut Saturday.

3. Tampa Bay LW Ondrej Palat, who owns the franchise record with a plus-105 rating, has recorded five assists in his last three games.

PREDICTION: Lightning 3, Blue Jackets 2

Ottawa Senators vs. Chicago Blackhawks Preview and Predictions 2019-02-18

NHL Predictions 17th February 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 02/17/2019

Patrick Kane looks to extend his point streak to 18 games and help the Chicago Blackhawks creep closer to a playoff position in the Western Conference when the NHL-worst Ottawa Senators pay a visit Monday night. Kane has collected 37 of his 87 points during an impressive 17-game run and captain Jonathan Toews is also playing a big role in Chicago's 8-2-0 surge, scoring nine times in the past 10 contests.

"It's nice to be getting on the scoresheet every night," Toews told reporters after scoring his 27th goal in Saturday's 5-2 loss against Columbus at home. "I think playing with (Kane), the way he's playing right now, you're bound to create and get chances." The Blackhawks have cooled off a bit while losing two of the last three games, but are just three points away from the second wild-card spot in the West despite sitting in last place in the Central Division. They likely won't have an easy game against the Senators, who have won three of five after earning a 4-3 overtime victory at Central Division-leading Winnipeg on Saturday as Ryan Dzingel scored 3:44 into the extra session. "We've been playing well for a long time now, but we didn't get bounces and lost by one goal," Ottawa coach Guy Boucher told reporters. "It's fitting at some point that when you deserve those games that you get them and it's good. I'm impressed with how focused our guys are and how they reload from period to period."

TV: 8:30 p.m. ET, TSN5, RDS (Ottawa), NBCS Chicago

ABOUT THE SENATORS (22-31-5): The trade deadline is just a little over a week away and there's been plenty of speculation about several players being moved, including leading scorers among the forwards Matt Duchene, Mark Stone and Dzingel. "I don't think it's a distraction," veteran forward Bobby Ryan told the Ottawa Sun. "We've got a lot of guys in situations that people are talking about right now. Everybody is aware of it. We try to put it away on game days." The team is reportedly trying to sign Stone, who has eight of his team-high 59 points in the last six games, while Duchene (six goals in his last six games, 56 points overall) appears to be on the trading block.

ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (24-26-9): Kane and Toews are not the only players piling up the points for Chicago, as fellow forward Alex DeBrincat boasts 17 of his career-high 55 points in the last 11 contests. Defenseman Erik Gustafsson owns a goal and three assists during a four-game point streak and left wing Brandon Saad is one away from reaching 20 goals for the fourth time in five seasons. Corey Crawford, out since Dec. 16 due to a concussion, told reporters he feels ready to go and could make his return soon while fellow goalie Cam Ward owns a 4-1-0 record and .926 save percentage in February.

OVERTIME

1. Ottawa's Anders Nilsson has started the last five games, but fellow G Craig Anderson (eye) could return this week for his 600th NHL contest.

2. Chicago F Dylan Strome has 11 goals and 21 assists in 35 games with the team since being acquired from Arizona.

3. Senators C Chris Tierney has registered six assists during a five-game point streak.

PREDICTION: Blackhawks 5, Senators 3

Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche Preview and Predictions 2019-02-18

NHL Predictions 17th February 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 02/17/2019

The Vegas Golden Knights have given the Colorado Avalanche fits since entering the NHL, posting a 3-0-1 mark while outscoring the club by a 13-2 margin in the wins. The visiting Golden Knights look to fluster the Avalanche once again on Monday when the clubs reconvene at Pepsi Center in Denver.

Brandon Pirri scored for the second time in three outings on Saturday as Vegas snapped both a three-game skid and franchise-worst five-game home losing streak with a 5-1 romp in Nashville. The 27-year-old's second-period power-play tally served as his third game-winning goal this season, with the first coming midway through the third in a 2-1 triumph over Colorado on Dec. 27. The Avalanche were in the midst of a six-game skid at that point and have dropped six in a row at home and 19 of their last 23 overall (4-14-5) heading into their tilt with the Golden Knights. "We can't feel sorry for ourselves, we just have to keep pounding ahead," forward Mikko Rantanen (team-leading 52 assists, 76 points) said following Saturday's 3-0 setback to St. Louis. "... We can't get stuck in the mud, we have to forget and move on."

TV: 9 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Vegas), Altitude (Colorado)

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (32-24-4): Paul Stastny celebrated his 33rd birthday with a goal and an assist versus Colorado, which was the franchise that selected him in the second round of the 2005 NHL Draft. His performance against the Avalanche in December ignited a run of three straight multi-point performances and 21 points total (five goals, 16 assists) during a 21-game stretch. Max Pacioretty tallied twice versus the Predators to collect his fourth multi-goal performance of the season, with the previous three coming in November.

ABOUT THE AVALANCHE (23-24-11): Although Colorado's eighth-ranked power play is mired in an 0-for-23 stretch in the last eight games, coach Jared Bednar embraced the positive on special teams as the club's 27th-ranked penalty kill thwarted all seven opportunities in the last two contests. "Our penalty kill now, after hitting the reset button and going through some things and making some significant changes to it just to give our guys something different to focus on, has not allowed a power-play goal in two straight games against two really good power plays," Bednar told reporters. J.T. Compher, who has two goals and an assist in his last five games, recorded his team's lone tally versus the Golden Knights in December.

OVERTIME

1. Colorado captain LW Gabriel Landeskog has scored just one of his team-best 30 goals in his last 10 games.

2. Golden Knights G Marc-Andre Fleury sports a sparkling 11-3-2 mark with one shutout and a 2.07 goals-against average in 17 career appearances against the Avalanche.

3. Colorado G Semyon Varlamov has turned aside 54 of 57 shots in his last two games after yielding at least four goals in four of his previous five outings.

Boston Bruins vs. San Jose Sharks Preview and Predictions 2019-02-18

NHL Predictions 17th February 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 02/17/2019

The Boston Bruins have ascended into second place in the Atlantic Division on the strength of recording five straight victories and at least a point in each of their last 10 contests (7-0-3). The red-hot Bruins bid to set a season-high win streak and defeat the host San Jose Sharks for the fifth straight time when the teams meet at SAP Center on Monday night.

Speaking of streaks, Tuukka Rask secured a point in his 13th straight decision (11-0-2) after highlighting his 23-save performance with an acrobatic two-pad stop on Alex Iafallo during the second period of Saturday's 4-2 win over Los Angeles. "There's a reason why he's been a Vezina winner. He was the biggest reason why we won the game (against the Kings)," forward Jake DeBrusk said of the 31-year-old Rask, who sports a 5-3-0 mark with one shutout in eight career encounters with San Jose. The Sharks are receiving quality goaltending as well, with Martin Jones turning aside 32 shots in Saturday's 3-2 victory versus Vancouver. Jones has won 14 of his last 17 starts for San Jose, which has benefited from a 7-1-0 run to match Calgary with 77 points atop the Pacific Division.

TV: 10 p.m. ET, NBC Sports Network, Sportsnet, NESN (Boston)

ABOUT THE BRUINS (34-17-8): DeBrusk has answered a 13-game goal drought by scoring in each of his last three games to push his season total to a career-high 17. The 22-year-old matched his performance with the Kings by scoring a goal and setting up Peter Cehlarik's first career tally in Boston's last trip to San Jose, helping his team post a 3-1 win on Nov. 18, 2017. Patrice Bergeron also collected a goal and an assist against Los Angeles, boosting his point total to 16 (seven goals, nine assists) in his last dozen contests.

ABOUT THE SHARKS (35-17-7): Two-time Norris Trophy Erik Karlsson picked up where he left off in his return from a nine-game absence due to a groin injury, setting up Timo Meier's power-play goal on Saturday to give him an assist in 17 of his last 19 appearances (one goal, 27 assists). Meier, whose 21st tally matched his total from 2017-18, registered his 14th multi-point performance this season by joining captain Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture with a goal and an assist versus the Canucks. Pavelski, who has a club-best 31 tallies, has been held off the scoresheet in each of his last four encounters with Boston.

OVERTIME

1. San Jose D Brent Burns has 10 of his team-leading 53 assists and 12 of his club-best 64 points in the last nine games.

2. Boston is 5-1-1 in its last seven road games to improve to 13-10-5 away from TD Garden.

3. Sharks LW Evander Kane has five goals and three assists in his last five contests.

NHL Predictions 18th February 2019 by Gracenote
Capitals vs. Kings Preview and Predictions

by Gracenote on 02/18/2019

Alex Ovechkin appears to have regained his scoring touch, recording a goal in three of his last four contests following a four-game drought. The 33-year-old captain hopes to continue his surge when the Washington Capitals continue their six-game road trip Monday against the Los Angeles Kings.

Ovechkin scored his league-leading 40th goal of the season in Sunday's 5-2 loss at Anaheim, which dropped the Capitals to 1-2-0 on their trek and kept them five points behind the New York Islanders for first place in the Metropolitan Division. The seven-time Maurice Richard Trophy winner became the fourth player in NHL history to reach the 40-goal plateau at least 10 times, joining Hall of Famers Wayne Gretzky (12), Mario Lemieux (10) and Marcel Dionne (10). Los Angeles is hoping to salvage the finale of its three-game homestand as its overall slide reached four games (0-2-2) with Saturday's 4-2 setback against Boston. Ilya Kovalchuk and Alex Iafallo scored in defeat for the Kings, who look to escape the Western Conference basement with a victory.

TV: 10:30 p.m. ET, NBCS Washington, FS West (Los Angeles)

ABOUT THE CAPITALS (32-20-7): John Carlson notched his 43rd assist of the season Sunday, moving him one ahead of Nicklas Backstrom for the team lead. The 29-year-old defenseman, who also scored a goal versus the Ducks, is one assist shy of 300 for his career. Jakub Vrana has picked up his production of late, registering three goals and seven assists over his last 11 contests after setting up a tally Sunday.

ABOUT THE KINGS (23-29-6): Adrian Kempe enters Monday's contest on a hot streak as he has landed on the scoresheet in six of his last seven games. The 22-year-old Swede, who has collected four goals and as many assists in that span, has notched 21 points in 57 games this season after registering 37 over 81 contests in 2017-18. Iafallo's goal Saturday was his 25th point of the season, which matches the amount he recorded in 75 games as a rookie last campaign.

OVERTIME

1. Kings G Jonathan Quick (illness) did not start versus Boston but hopes to be in the crease Monday.

2. Ovechkin, who has collected seven tallies and eight assists over his last 10 contests, is nine goals away from tying Brendan Shanahan (656) for 13th place on the all-time list.

3. Los Angeles rookie D Sean Walker (upper body) missed Saturday's game and is day-to-day.

Virginia Cavaliers vs. Virginia Tech Hokies Preview and Predictions 2019-02-18

NCAAB Predictions 17th February 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 02/17/2019

Fourth-ranked Virginia jumped on the backs of De'Andre Hunter and Kyle Guy to earn two important wins last week and will need another big effort from the star guards when it visits No. 16 Virginia Tech on Monday night in an ACC showdown. Hunter drained 13-of-21 shots and averaged 20 points while Guy made nine 3-pointers and scored 42 combined in wins over North Carolina and Notre Dame.

The victory at North Carolina last Monday followed a second crushing loss to Duke, and Saturday's 60-54 triumph against the Fighting Irish at home showed that the Cavaliers can grind out a win on a poor shooting night. "I think it's good for us," Virginia coach Tony Bennett told reporters after his team shot 36.5 percent from the field. "OK, shots are not going in. Are we going to be sound? Are we going to stay together and come up with big stops or find other ways? And that's part of maturing as a team." Virginia Tech has won two straight after a 70-64 triumph at Pittsburgh on Saturday, improving to 3-2 since second-leading scorer Justin Robinson (14.4, team-high 5.4 assists) went down with a toe injury, and is looking forward to the challenge of its state rival. "Got to keep our poise," Hokies junior forward Kerry Blackshear Jr. told reporters after scoring a season-high 29 points Saturday. "I think they score just as good as anybody in the country. Defend just as good as anybody in the country. It's going to be a big game. Cassell (Coliseum) is going to be rocking."

TV: 7 p.m. ET, ESPN

ABOUT VIRGINIA (22-2, 10-2 ACC): Hunter also connected on 5-of-6 from 3-point range in the last two games and is shooting 53.4 percent from the field overall this season while averaging 15 points - second on the team behind Guy (15.1). "He's so good and talented at one-on-one basketball," Guy told reporters of Hunter, who recorded his second double-double (20 points, 10 boards) Saturday. "There probably isn't anybody in the country that can stop him." Junior point guard Ty Jerome (13 points, team-high 5.1 assists) must recover from a 2-of-9 shooting performance against Notre Dame.

ABOUT VIRGINIA TECH (20-5, 9-4): Blackshear made 8-of-9 from the field, including all three of his 3-point attempts, and hauled in nine boards Saturday to improve his scoring average to 14.0 and team-high rebound mark to 6.7. "We have to play through him," Hokies coach Buzz Williams told reporters of Blackshear. "He's our best defender. He's our best scorer. He's our best passer. 2. Cavaliers junior G Braxton Key tops the team in rebounding (6.0), but has made just 3-of-16 from the field the last three games.

Illinois Fighting Illini vs. Wisconsin Badgers Preview and Predictions 2019-02-18

NCAAB Predictions 17th February 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 02/17/2019

No. 23 Wisconsin looks to bounce back from a difficult week when it hosts Illinois on Monday in a Big Ten game. The Badgers came into their showdowns with seventh-ranked Michigan and No. 12 Michigan State riding a six-game winning streak, but suffered a pair of setbacks to the Wolverines (61-52) and Spartans (67-59) to fall three games off the pace in the race for the conference title, and hope to get back on track by beating the surging Illini for the 15th consecutive time.

"We've got to continue to get better and find ways to improve," Wisconsin coach Greg Gard told reporters. "We've got a lot more basketball games left to play." Illinois seems to have turned the corner under second-year coach Brad Underwood after it pulled out a 63-56 road win against Ohio State on Thursday. The Illini have won four straight conference games, which is their longest streak in nearly two years, and hope to stay hot while exorcising some past demons in the process by knocking off the Badgers for the first time since Jan. 2, 2011. "All we're doing right now is playing with a purpose as we're trying to get the respect that we deserve because we're winners," Illinois guard Trent Frazier told reporters. "People probably put us at the bottom of the Big Ten and we've been working our butts off."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

ABOUT ILLINOIS (10-15, 6-8 Big Ten): Ayo Dosunmu, who is the reigning Big Ten freshman of the week, produced 15 points, four rebounds and three assists in the win against Ohio State. Frazier also scored 15 points while Giorgi Bezhanishvili, who was named the Big Ten player of the week after racking up 35 points in the 99-94 win against Rutgers on Feb. 9, tallied 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds against the Buckeyes. Andres Feliz has morphed into a solid fourth scoring option off the bench as the junior guard added nine points and six rebounds Thursday to finish with at least eight points for the sixth consecutive game after averaging 4.5 over his previous six outings.

ABOUT WISCONSIN (17-8, 9-5): Ethan Happ continued his assault on the Big Ten record books as he scored 20 points and pulled down 12 rebounds against Michigan State to become the fourth player in conference history to have 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in his career. Nate Reuvers added 11 points and a pair of blocked shots while Brad Davison scored nine points, but it wasn't enough as the Badgers' winless streak against the Spartans grew to six games. D'Mitrik Trice was limited to two points on 1-of-6 shooting from the field and is 7-for-25 over the last three games.

TIP-INS

1. Wisconsin has won the last seven home meetings with Illinois by an average margin of 17.8 points.

2. Happ is among the national leaders with 17 double-doubles.

3. Bezhanishvili is 20-of-27 from the floor over the last two games.

Kansas State Wildcats vs. West Virginia Mountaineers Preview and Predictions 2019-02-18

NCAAB Predictions 17th February 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 02/17/2019

Kansas State will try to take another step toward for its first conference title since 1977 when it visits West Virginia on Monday in a Big 12 contest. The No. 18 Wildcats had their nine-game conference winning streak snapped with a 78-64 loss to No. 22 Iowa State on Saturday, seeing their lead shrink to one-half game over No. 14 Kansas and No. 15 Texas Tech, but of bigger concern could be the health of senior forward and Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year Dean Wade.

Wade, who missed six games earlier this season with a right foot injury, left Saturday's game with a similar ailment as Kansas State coach Bruce Weber told reporters: "He had some soreness in his foot all week. He didn't practice. He was in a boot. It's not the same injury as before. He tweaked it. ... We'll just have to see." The Mountaineers are coming off a 78-53 loss at Kansas on Saturday, scoring a season-low 16 points in the first half and making 3-of-23 from 3-point range for the game. "Another loss - that's about the only thing I can take away from this," West Virginia Bob Huggins told reporters after the Mountaineers' first game without senior forward Esa Ahmad and junior forward Wesley Harris, a pair of major contributors who were kicked off the team Monday for a "violation of athletic department policies.'' After an 0-2 start to the Big 12 season, Kansas State's run to the top of the standings began when it rallied from 21 points behind to score a 71-69 victory over West Virginia on Jan. 9.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, ESPN

ABOUT KANSAS STATE (19-6, 9-3 Big 12): Wade (13.6 points, team-high 6.6 rebounds) missed the final nine minutes Saturday and Weber could decide to rest him this week with Oklahoma State (9-16) visiting Saturday prior to a showdown at Kansas on Feb. 25. Senior guard Barry Brown Jr. (club-best 15.7 points) scored 23 against Iowa State and is averaging 17.6 points in his last five games. Senior guard Kamau Stokes (10.2 points) and junior forward Xavier Sneed (10.0) - the Wildcats' other double-figure scorers - combined for 15 points and 3-for-16 shooting from the field Saturday.

ABOUT WEST VIRGINIA (10-15, 2-10): Derek Culver (11.5 points, team-high 8.9 rebounds this season), who recorded 17 points and 12 rebounds against the Wildcats earlier this season, leads the Big 12 with 9.7 rebounds per conference game and paces all freshmen with 11.9 points per Big 12 contest. The 6-10 forward is averaging 12.3 rebounds over his last four games and just missed his sixth double-double in 15 games played this season with nine points against Kansas. The Mountaineers are again expected to be without junior forward Sagaba Konate (club-high 13.6 points, 8.0 rebounds), who hasn't played since Dec. 8 because of a knee injury, and junior guard Beetle Bolden (12.3 points), who missed the last five games (ankle).

TIP-INS

1. West Virginia leads the Big 12 in rebounding at 39.1 per game - 28th nationally entering Sunday - while the Wildcats are last in the conference at 33.8.

2. The Mountaineers are last in the Big 12 in 3-point shooting (30.8 percent) and in 3-point defense (35.2).

3. West Virginia has won nine of the last 11 meetings, including five straight in Morgantown, and leads the series 10-6.

PREDICTION: West Virginia 71, Kansas State 65

Texas Christian Horned Frogs vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys Preview and Predictions 2019-02-18

NCAAB Predictions 17th February 2019 by Gracenote
by Gracenote on 02/17/2019

After consecutive defeats and losing two more players to injury, TCU's hopes for a second consecutive NCAA Tournament bid after a 19-year absence have taken a hard hit. With games against three ranked Big 12 teams upcoming, the Horned Frogs still have a chance to make a strong impression on the committee but they can't afford to look past a struggling Oklahoma State team in Stillwater, OK on Monday.

TCU dropped a 71-62 decision at home against Oklahoma on Saturday, losing a fourth player to a season-ending injury (Lat Mayen, knee) while playing without sophomore forward Kouat Noi (ankle) - the team's second leading scorer at 14.8 points per game. The short-handed Horned Frogs shot just 35.4 percent from the field and allowed the Sooners to shoot 50 percent, an ongoing problem for the Horned Frogs who have allowed opponents to shoot 46.7 percent from the floor in Big 12 play - second-worst in the 10-team league. "We've got to find a way," coach Jamie Dixon told the Star-Telegram. "We put out a new product out there today and it wasn't successful. ... We didn't play well, but we have to play well tomorrow [in practice] and we have to play well Monday [at Oklahoma State]. We'll have to figure it out." Oklahoma State dropped its eighth straight Big 12 game and fifth overall in Saturday's 69-57 defeat at Texas as leading scorers Cameron McGriff and Lindy Waters III were held to a combined 10 points on 4-of-14 shooting.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, ESPNU

ABOUT TCU (17-8, 5-7 Big 12): The Horned Frogs received 14 points and 11 rebounds from JD Miller and 14 points, six steals and four assists from freshman Kendric Davis in his first start, but the team took a season-high 32 3-point shots - making just nine. "The looks weren't good enough," Dixon told reporters. "Looking at the percentages, you never want to be over 40 percent of your shots being 3s, so we took too many. ... We're playing guys at different spots. That may have had something to do with it. But you've got to find a way. It's disappointing." Junior guard Desmond Bane leads the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game and adds 5.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists while point guard Alex Robinson chips in 12.8 points and 7.1 assists and the 5-11 Davis (6.8 points) is averaging 17.3 points, five assists and 3.3 steals in 32.7 minutes over the past three games.

ABOUT OKLAHOMA STATE (9-16, 2-10): Junior guard Thomas Dziagwa posted career highs of 23 points and seven 3-pointers against Texas and freshman Isaac Likekele added 16 points and six rebounds as the Cowboys continued their longest Big 12 regular-season skid since losing 12 straight from 2016-17. McGriff leads the team in scoring (13.2) and rebounding (7.6 - third in the Big 12) and is tied for second with seven double-doubles, while Waters (11.9 points) leads the conference in free-throw-shooting (92.4 percent) and ranks second in 3-point accuracy (45.1 percent). Dziagwa (10.8 points, 79 3-pointers), who drained the most 3-pointers in a game for the Cowboys since 2012, is third in the Big 12 in 3-point percentage (44.6) and is connecting on 41.7 percent for his career - seventh highest in school history.

TIP-INS

1. TCU freshman C Kevin Samuel (7.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.0 blocks) recorded four blocks against Oklahoma, giving him multiple blocks in five straight. Samuel also moved past Karviar Shepherd for the most blocks ever by a TCU freshman with 50.

2. TCU G Jaylen Fisher (12.1 points), F Yuat Alok (3.3 points) and F Angus McWilliam have also been lost for the season to injuries, while F Kaden Archie (2.1 points) transferred to UTEP.

3. The Cowboys lead the all-time series 25-7, including 9-2 at home, but the Horned Frogs won the first meeting this season 70-68 when Miller drove the length of the court in the final five seconds and converted a baseline jumper. Bane scored 26 points and Robinson added 11 assists for TCU, while F Yor Anei scored 20 points and Likekele had 17 for Oklahoma State.

ESPN’s Big Monday in college basketball kicks things off with a in-state ACC rivalry between No. 4 Virginia and No. 22 Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. The backend of this doubleheader is a Big 12 battle between Kansas State and the West Virginia Mountaineers in Morgantown.
