The NCAAB Comp play is on Tennessee at 12:10 eastern. The Vols have covered 6 of 8 after losing 2 of the last 3 to the spread. Iowa is off an upset win but has failed to cover 7 of 8 in round two games and 6 of 9 vs SEC Teams. Tennessee fits a nice system here today that plays on round 2 teams that scored 70 or more but did not cover vs a 9 or worse seed off a dog win. SEC teams in round 2 that are favorites of 7 or more are on a 6-1 spread run. Iowa unset Cincy last out but this will be a much tougher task. Look for Tennessee to cover. Analysis:
HC Ritchie McKay can flat out coach....this Liberty team is no Cinderella Joke! This team can take out Va. Tech who nearly let the inept shooting Billikens get back in Game One. Liberty shot nearly 50% from downtown in 4-point win over Mississippi State the other night.
Big Man Scottie James struggled from the floor while Caleb Homesley had a career high 30 points and led all scorers. Lovell Cabill Jr. had a nice night with 18 points and 5 assists. Look for James to be much more productive tonight and take pressure off the two shooters. The Flames are on fire...they had two wins over Lipscomb after getting blown out by the Bisons ( yes with an "S" at the end ) at home.
If Liberty is in this game by halftime....down 4 or less...they have a great shot to win straight up. James needs to score in this one and I think he will.
HC Buzz Williams has a good squad and with Justin Robinson make in the line-up there is a major advantage for the Hokies......but don't tell that to Liberty. They feel like they are destined to Sweet 16!

If James has at 14 points and 6 rebounds I think Liberty wins it by 7-ish!

We have a Virginia Tech team that is in my top 10 and they are now at full-strength a with the return off Justin Robinson. Robinson is a FOUR-YEAR starting PG who returned versus St Louis after missing 12 games and played great getting his feet wet with 28 minutes played. VT has 8 losses this season and all 8 came against teams with top 26 defenses with 5 coming without the services of their PG. Liberty played the #247 schedule and DI NOT face a D that was ranked in the top 45. Even Miss St who they upset was only #63 while the Hokies are #20. VT is also the best offense Liberty has played this season. VT is 5-0 ATS this season in a neutral setting as HF of 6.5 to 12 points and their D has held their last 3 foes to 36.5%, 38.6% and 33.9 % shooting (St Louis, Florida St & Miami).

Buffalo is legit but Texas Tech can get it done on both sides of the basketball. Texas Tech is 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games.

5 Unit Play. Take #872 Houston -6 over Ohio State (8:40p.m., Sunday, March 24 TNT) Ohio State went out in the Round of 32 last season against a mid-major and I see the same thing happening again on Sunday. Houston is legit and dominated for most of the season in the AAC. Unlike Iowa State, the Cougars can rebound, and I do not believe the Buckeyes will be able to dominate on the board in this game. When Ohio State losses games it tends to come big and thus if Houston wins this game, they should easily cover the spread as well. Ohio State is 1-8 ATS in their last 9 NCAA Tournament games. Houston is 8-3 ATS in their last neutral site games.

4 Unit Play. Take #900 TCU -4.5 over Nebraska (9:30p.m., Sunday, March 24 ESPNU) Just do not believe Nebraska can win this game on the road with a depleted roster. If they lose Tim Miles will likely be fired and that should occur against the No. 1 seed. The Frogs won the first game by double digits in the NIT and I see this one as a double-digit victory as well. TCU is 10-1 ATS in their last 11 nonconference games. Nebraska is 2-8 ATS following an ATS loss in their previous game.

Virginia struggled early in their game against Gardner Webb but let’s be realistic all week Virginia had to answer the questions about being the only #1 seed ever to lose to a #16 Seed. Of course Virginia was tight at the beginning of that game. Last year was embarrassing what happened but guess what they got thru it and now the nerves are gone. Now it’s on to Round 2. Virginia is so much better than Oklahoma who even though won big in their first round game Oklahoma didn’t belong in the Big Dance. Oklahoma had something to prove in the first round as it seems happens every year that team that everyones says didn’t deserve the bid rises to the occasion. Today however Oklahoma will face the best defense they have seen all year. Virginia has held 8 of it’s last 11 opponents to 39% or less shooting. Only one team has shot more than 44% in that 11 game stretch against Virginia. Offensively Virginia has shot 52% or better in 5 of the last 7 games. This year Virginia is good both offensively and defensively where in the past it was just all defense. Note Virginia is 15-4 ATS following a game in which they didn’t cover (https://www.wagertalk.com/members/trades#) the spread the last two seasons. Virginia Wins by 15-18 points.

Texas Tech plays outstanding team defense and if they shut down the Bulls early this game could get ugly. The Red Raiders held Northern Kentucky to 57 points and yes I know the Buffalo Bulls scored 91 points against Arizona St but tonight defense wins this game and the Red Raiders go to the Sweet 16.

Do I really need to do a write-up tonight on WHY I like the Oregon Ducks in this matchup against UC Irvine? We have been riding the Ducks for the past couple of weeks and we are going back to the well tonight. The Ducks have won 9-Straight and had no problem beating the Wisconsin Badgers on Friday 72-54. The UC Irvine Anteaters haven't lost since January 16 but the way the Ducks are playing right now I see them winning this game and too much speed will bother the Anteaters. UC Irvine has had trouble covering against PAC-12 opponents going 2-8 ATS last 10 meetings and the Oregon Ducks are 9-0 ATS last 9 games and a perfect 6-0 ATS when playing on a neutral site.

The Liberty Flames last two games both easily went over the total and against Mississippi St, the Flames won 80-76. Virginia Tech beat St. Louis 66-52 in their first NCAA Tournament but I don't see that type of game being played tonight. Look for a fast tempo game from both teams and in the second half the total flies over. Virginia Tech is 8-3 O/U following a SU win and the Hokies move on and this game goes 'Over'.

Per the NBA selection, we like the Over here as we do think that these teams will play little defense while they pad the stats as the season comes to an end. Would you play defense at this point if you are both out of the Playoff hunt (yes, Kings are mathematically still in it, but let's face it, the Clippers are rolling as well as the Spurs so they really have no chance). Per this game, we like a little showtime from both these teams, the Lakers offense had sputtered the last couple games but as they return back home they get it rolling today, Lakers could very well be an active dog here as well and the Kings have revenge from a 7 point loss earlier this year and played horribly offensively (though they did win) against the Suns last game for just 112 points. This likely sets up for a solid Over here today.
