Wednesday night’s college basketball slate features a pair of quarterfinal pairings in the NIT starting with No. 4 Colorado squaring off against No. 2 Texas in a 8:00 p.m. ET tip in Austin. The other matchup at 9:00 p.m. pits No. 5 Lipscomb on the road against North Carolina State on the other side of the bracket in Raleigh.

Betting Matchup

The Buffaloes will be on short rest for Wednesday’s contest coming off Monday night’s 76-60 victory against Norfolk State as heavy 14-point favorites. They started this tournament with a 78-73 victory against Dayton as 4 ½-point home favorites. Colorado has been able to cover in six of its last eight games, but it slides to 3-6 against the spread in its last nine road games. The total stayed UNDER 146 ½ points in Monday night’s win and it has stayed UNDER in seven of the Buffaloes’ last nine games.

Forward Evan Battey picked the prefect time to record his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds against Norfolk State. Sophomore guard Tyler Bey has been Colorado’s leading scorer all season long with 13.4 points a game and he added 17 points and nine rebounds to the winning cause.

Texas made a quick exit in this year’s Big 12 Tournament with a 65-57 loss to Kansas as a 3 ½-point underdog. This capped off a SU 1-5 slide in its previous six games. With new life in the NIT, the Longhorns beat South Dakota State 79-73 last Tuesday before squeezing past Xavier 78-76 in overtime on Sunday. They failed to cover as home favorites in both games as part of a 0-5 record ATS in their last five games. The total went OVER 139 ½ points in Sunday’s victory after staying UNDER in their previous four outings.

Kerwin Roach II had the hot hand for Texas against Xavier with 21 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. The senior guard leads the Longhorns in scoring this season with 14.8 points a game. Dylan Osetkowski put up career-high 26 points in the NIT opener against South Dakota State.

The Bison have won six of their last seven games SU with the only loss coming against Liberty 74-68 as 6 ½-point favorites in the Atlantic Sun Tournament. They knocked off Davidson 89-81 as 2 ½-point road underdogs in the opening round of the NIT ahead of a 86-69 romp over UNC Greensboro on Saturday as slight 1 ½-point road underdogs. Lipscomb has been able to cover the closing spread in three of its last four games after failing to cover in its previous seven contests.

Rob Marberry has made his presence known in this tournament with 17 points against Davidson followed by a 24-point effort in Saturday’s win. Senior guard Garrison Mathews is the team’s leading scorer this season with 20.0 points and he added 23 points to Saturday’s winning cause.

NC State was left home for the Big Dance after going an even 9-9 SU in ACC play. It bowed out of the conference tournament with a 76-56 loss to Virginia as an 11 ½-point underdog. The Wolfpack are making the most of their time in the NIT with SU victories against Hofstra and Harvard at home. They failed to cover as nine-point favorites for each contest as part of a 2-4 record ATS in their last six games. The total went OVER 152 ½-points in Sunday’s 78-77 win against Harvard after it had stayed UNDER in NC State’s previous six contests.

Senior guard Torin Dorn has led the Wolfpack in scoring this season with 13.4 PPG and he opened this tournament with 19 points against Hofstra. Guard CJ Bryce had the hot hand on Sunday with 16 points while going 6-for-12 from the field.

Game of the Night: Pacers at Thunder (-6, 216) – 8:05 PM EST

Two teams not playing their best basketball of late hook up in Oklahoma City in a critical game for playoff seeding. Indiana (45-29 SU, 37-37 ATS) snapped a four-game skid in Sunday’s 124-88 home blowout of Denver as 1 ½-point underdogs, aided by 35 points from Bojan Bogdanovic, as the swingman drilled five three-pointers. The Pacers improved to 10-2 the last 12 home contests, but Indiana has dropped eight consecutive games away from Bankers Life Fieldhouse.

Oklahoma City (43-31 SU, 37-37 ATS) is skidding out of control at the wrong time as the Thunder are riding a 1-5 stretch since rallying past Brooklyn on March 13. The Thunder dropped three consecutive home games to the Warriors, Heat, and Raptors before beating Toronto on the second of a home-and-home last Friday, 116-109. The most recent defeat came at Memphis on Monday in a 115-103 setback as Russell Westbrook and Paul George combined to shoot 16-of-49 from the floor.

The Thunder have not been able to cash consistently at Chesapeake Energy Arena by posting a 1-7 ATS record the last eight opportunities at home. Oklahoma City is looking to avenge a 108-106 defeat at Indiana on March 14 as the Thunder squandered an 18-point third quarter lead. Wesley Matthews tipped in a miss at the buzzer to give Indiana its first win against Oklahoma City since February 2017, while the UNDER hit for the fourth straight time in the series.

Warriors at Grizzlies – 8:05 PM EST

For the sixth consecutive season, Golden State (50-23 SU, 30-42-1 ATS) has reached the 50-win plateau. The two-time defending champions rebounded from their worst loss of the season in a 35-point blowout to the Mavericks by beating Detroit on Sunday, 121-114. The Warriors failed to cash as 10-point favorites, but Stephen Curry returned to the lineup after a one-game absence to score 26 points, while Golden State shot a scorching 62% from the floor.

Golden State is making its first trip to Memphis since October 2017 as the last four matchups in this series have come at Oracle Arena. The Warriors captured the first two meetings with the Grizzlies (30-44 SU, 35-39 ATS) in Oakland by 16 and 17 points, while cashing each time as double-digit favorites. The last time Golden State invaded FedEx Forum 17 months ago, both Curry and Kevin Durant were ejected late in a 111-101 loss as 8 ½-point favorites.

The Grizzlies knocked off Durant’s former team in blowout fashion in Monday’s 115-103 triumph as 7 ½-point underdogs. Memphis improved to 5-1 the last six games at FedEx Forum, which includes victories over Western Conference heavyweights Houston, Utah, and Portland. The Grizzlies haven’t backed down in the role of an underdog by covering in nine of their last 10 opportunities, while going 10-1 ATS the last 11 as a home ‘dog.

Blazers at Bulls – 8:05 PM EST

Three teams embark on cross-country road trips late in the season as Portland (46-27 SU, 40-32-1 ATS) hits the road for four games, starting in Chicago. The Blazers have won seven of their last eight games, while sweeping a four-game homestand, capped off by a double-overtime victory over the Nets on Monday. Portland outlasted Brooklyn, 148-144, but lost big man Jusuf Nurkic to a gruesome leg injury which will sideline him for the rest of the season.

The Bulls (21-53 SU, 33-40-1 ATS) own a dreadful 9-28 record at United Center, which includes a 31-point drubbing at the hands of the Jazz on Saturday. Utah built a 70-36 halftime edge and never looked back as the Bulls played without leading scorer Zach LaVine, as he is sidelined with a thigh injury. Since the Bulls shocked the Thunder in early December, Chicago has lost six of its past seven home games against Western Conference opponents.

Portland has captured the past four matchups with Chicago dating back to December 2016, including a 124-112 home victory in January. All four of those games sailed OVER the total, as the Blazers scored exactly 124 points in each of the previous three meetings.

Wizards at Suns – 10:05 PM EST

Phoenix (17-58 SU, 34-41 ATS) begin a five-game homestand with the first three opponents all owning losing records. The Suns were rolled by the Jazz on Monday, 125-92 as 14-point underdogs, in spite of Devin Booker posting a 59-point performance. Booker finished 19-of-34 from the floor, including hitting five three-pointers and converting 16 free throws. In all three losses to Utah this season, the Suns were limited to 97 points or less and each game was decided by double-digits.

The Wizards (30-45 SU, 35-40 ATS) head to the Valley with no rest following Tuesday’s loss to the Lakers. Washington has performed well on the second end of a back-to-back this season by compiling a 9-5 SU and 11-3 ATS record, while going 2-1 SU and 3-0 ATS in the last three opportunities on the road.

Six of the last seven meetings in the series have been claimed by the Wizards, including a 149-146 home triumph in three overtimes back in late December. Bradley Beal paced Washington with 40 points, while Thomas Bryant knocked down all 14 of his field goal attempts for 31 points. The Wizards have won three straight matchups in Phoenix, including a 109-99 victory in December 2017.

Lakers at Jazz – 10:35 PM EST

Utah (44-30 SU, 40-32-2 ATS) is taking advantage of a soft schedule down the stretch by winning seven of eight, while beating only one team owning a winning record (Brooklyn). The latest victory for the Jazz came in Monday’s 33-point rout of the Suns, marking the second straight win for Utah by at least 30 points. In each of the past eight wins for the Jazz, Utah has managed covers, including six ATS victories in this stretch as a favorite of eight points or more.

The Lakers (33-41 SU, 29-43-2 ATS) have dropped 20 of their last 27 games to fall out of playoff contention in the Western Conference. Los Angeles is 0-15 ATS in its past 15 losses as its last cover in a defeat came at Golden State in early February as a 14 ½-point underdog. The Lakers have been nearly an automatic UNDER play on no rest this season by cashing the UNDER in nine of 10 opportunities on the second of a back-to-back following Tuesday’s victory against Washington.

The home team has won each of the first two meetings as the Jazz cruised past the Lakers in Salt Lake City back in January, 113-95 as 8 ½-point favorites. Utah owns an 8-1 record in the last nine games against L.A. since the start of the 2016-17 season, while capturing the past seven matchups at Vivint Smart Home Arena.

SENORA DE LUJAN - After the affair aboard this horse on Feb 16th, the rider is going to 'know' the mare much better. Racing at a similar level as last race on February 16th at Charles Town. I think Racanelli has found a good spot for her, and I like her chances in this field. Lets try to beat the low-odds horses with this mare. Just missed last out, but ran a pretty good race. TAVRIDA - This mare has run pretty well on the turf. Often that form translates to success at a track like this where the turns are sharp. DIXIE ROSE - Has run good races in the first or second starts back off of a vacation.

I know the Bulls have a lot of key guys questionable to play and are playing in the second game of a back-to-back. I just think this is a really tough spot for Portland. Blazers were already playing without one of their best players in C.J. McCollum and now they just lost big man Jusuf Nurkic for the season. That's a devastating blow to this team and their hopes of a miracle run through the Western Conference playoffs. I think they come out flat in the first game withou Nurkic againt a short-handed Bulls team and wouldn't be surprised at all if they lost this game outright.
Portland has failed to cover 3 straight and are just 3-7 ATS in their last 10. This is a big time revenge game for Paul George and the home side. OKC had what seemed like an insurmountable lead over Indiana two weeks ago, before the Pacers came storming back to win 108-106 in the first matchup at home on March 14th.
Revenge is a dish best served cold and it’s an angle which works well in this one in my opinion.
The Pacers broke a four-game road skid with a big 124-88 home win over Denver, but a date on the road vs. the revenge minded Thunder is definitely not what the doctor ordered to continue the momentum.
Overall the Pacers average 107.9 PPG, while allowing 102.3. Darren Collison averages 14.9 points and 5.7 assists per night.
The Thunder not only play with revenge, but they also play with an overall sense of desperation after losing five of their last six, including a blowout to the Grizzlies on Monday. George had 30 points and 12 rebounds in a losing cause.
OKC averages 114.3 PPG, while allowing 111.1. Russell Westbrook averages 25 points, 9.8 boards and 8.3 assists per night.
Indiana though is still only 7-12 ATS this year as a road underdog of six points or less, while OKC is 11-6 ATS this season revenging a road loss vs. an opponent.

Wizards over Suns- Both these clubs enter this fray on losing streaks with Washington's streak at five after getting wasted by the Lakers last night, while the Suns have dropped their last four. But, it just want to make note that the Wizards are 5-1 SU in their last six visits to Phoenix. The Suns who are 8-21 ATS in their last 29 home games against teams with losing records. But, the Suns are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings and are an underdog here. Take PHOENIX!

I've nailed 16 of 21 complimentary winners - including nine of 11 on ice - and for Wednesday I'm rolling out the skates for an easy winner in the NHL after hitting the Arizona Coyotes over the Chicago Blackhawks last night.

Tonight I'm back on the Toronto Maple Leafs with a puck line play over the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Flyers' faint playoff hopes will get worse tonight, as Toronto is going come into Philadelphia and skate circles around a team that has dropped two in a row. Sunday's road loss to the Washington Capitals led to frustration within the locker room, and things could be unraveling at this point.

Consecutive losses to the New York Islanders at home and then at Washington have not only hurt its chances, but also the morale of a Philadelphia team that has lost three straight home games to the Islanders, Canadiens and Capitals.

The Flyers, who are 4-6-0 in their last 10 games, don't have neat the offensive firepower as Toronto, which got a four-goal effort from John Tavares on Monday in a 7-5 victory at Florida.

Toronto - which is 2-0-0 against Philly this season - needs just one period to warm up, as it outscores teams in the second period 96-77 and 98-77 in the third stanza. The Maple Leafs, who are 22-11-4 on the road this season, defeated the Flyers by a 6-0 score on Nov. 24 in Philadelphia.

Look for another rout tonight.

My free play for Wednesday is the Pacers plus the points in their game against the Thunder.

Indiana is back on the road after a much-needed home win on Sunday against Denver, as the Pacers blasted the Nuggets, 124-88 to snap a 4-game losing streak.

The Pacers have dropped 8 in a row on the road, covering only one time in those 8 highway setbacks, so it is important Indiana competes hard in this spot, as it will not get any easier come postseason time away from their home floor.

The Thunder is mired in a 1-5 slide both straight up and against the spread, and when listed as a favorite between -5 to -6 1/2 points, stand at just 5-9 against the spread for the year.

Indiana has been the straight up winner in 5 of the last 8 series meetings, and that does include a March 14th home win over Oklahoma City, 108-106 as the -1 1/2 point home favorite.

This one could well be another 2-point game either way, so give me the Pacers plus the points to keep it close.

Wednesday's comp play will be the Memphis Grizzlies plus the points in their home game against the puzzling Golden State Warriors.


The Dubs appear to be a little disinterested in locking down the # 1 seed in the Western Conference, as they come into Bluff City with just a 9-8 straight up mark their last 17 games, and they happen to be a money-burning 6-14 against the spread over their last 20 games contested!


The Grizzlies will not be playing in the postseason this year, but at least Memphis is coming out on a nightly basis and competing hard as evidenced by their 5-4 straight up mark over their last 9 games that includes a home win and cover over Oklahoma City in their last game.


The Grizzlies have gone 8-3 against the spread over their last 11 games so getting a freight-train full of points tonight at the Grind House as the new-look Grizzlies look to end a 4-game series losing streak to the Warriors is something that has my attention.


This is the first meeting between the teams in Tennessee since Memphis bested Golden State in October of 2017.


No outright win tonight, but I do like the underdog at home to cover this generous impost.

My free play is on the Dallas Stars against the Calgary Flames, as I like the scrappy road dog to bark loud tonight.

The Stars earned just one win during a five-game homestand, leaving their playoff hopes hinging on their four-game road trip through Western Canada.

First step, a 5-2 win over the Central Division-leading Winnipeg Jets on Monday.

Next step, a win over Pacific Divison-leading Flames, who have all but wrapped up the division.

And as wild a shooting team as Calgary is, things will be tough against a goalie like big Ben Bishop, who is in after recording the 200th victory of his career. Bishop owns an 8-6-1 record with a .921 save percentage and a 2.12 goals against average in 15 career appearances against Calgary.


Dallas steps to the ice while sitting in the first wild-card slot in the West, holding a three-point edge on the Colorado Avalanche. Both teams have six games remaining, so the Stars need to win.

Calgary saw its three-game winning streak snapped on Monday with a disappointing 3-0 loss to the last-place Los Angeles Kings. The Flames could have clinched home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs, but blew it. Now they'll have their hands full against a much better goalie and much better Stars team that has won five straight road games.

Oh and by the way, Dallas is 2-0-0 so far against the Flames this season, including a 1-0-0 mark at Scotiabank Saddledome. Dallas has also logged points in 14 of its last 18 games against the Flames, boasting a 12-4-2 record over that span. The Stars have recorded wins in each of the last two games (2-0-0) at Scotiabank Saddledome, while the team has also logged points in seven of its last eight trips to Calgary (6-1-1).
