MLB | NYM vs ATL
Play on: UNDER 8½ +104

My selection is on the 'under' between New York and Atlanta at 7:20 pm et on Tuesday.
The Braves have been tearing the cover off the baseball lately, plating 27 runs in their last two games alone. I do expect them to run into a challenge on Tuesday, however, as they face Jacob DeGrom of the Mets. DeGrom hasn't had much luck getting into the win column this season but that doesn't mean he hasn't pitched well. DeGrom checks in with a 3.02 ERA and 1.13 WHIP on the road and has given up two earned runs or less in each of his last five outings. He has allowed one earned run or less in four of his last five outings in Atlanta. Julio Teheran will counter for the Braves. He has been outstanding at home this season, recording a 1.85 ERA and has given up two earned runs or less in seven of his last eight starts against the Mets. Look for the Braves 'over' streak to end at nine game on Tuesday. Take the under (10*).

WNBA Betting Recap - 6/11-6/17
Joe Williams

League Betting Notes (Tuesday, June 11 through Monday, June 17)

-- Underdogs went 8-6 straight up (SU)
-- Underdogs went 10-4 against the spread (ATS)
-- Road teams went 8-6 SU
-- Home teams went 8-6 ATS
-- The 'under' went 11-3

Season Totals To Date

-- Favorites are 27-18 straight up (SU)
-- Underdogs 24-19-2 against the spread (ATS)
-- Home teams are 26-19 SU
-- Home teams are 22-21-2 ATS
-- The 'under' is 31-14

Team Betting Notes

-- Atlanta (1-5 SU, 1-5 ATS) continues to struggle without F Angel McCoughtry (knee), as they have dropped five in a row since opening with a victory against Dallas (1-5 SU, 3-3 ATS). The Wings returned the favor with a 71-61 victory against the Dream as 3 1/2-point underdogs at home on Saturday.

-- The Wings have hit the 'under' in all six of their games so far, as they're averaging just 68.0 points per game (PPG), ranking 11th in the WNBA. They're also 11th in field-goal percentage (37.6 percent), 11th in 3-point percentage (26.4 percent) and 10th in free-throw percentage (76.5 percent), too.

-- Chicago (4-2 SU, 4-2 ATS) stumbled out of the gate at 1-2 SU/ATS, but they have rattled off three consecutive victories. The improvement on the defensive end has been the biggest difference, as they allowed 90.3 PPG in the first three games, while yielding just 70.0 PPG over the past three.

-- Connecticut (7-1 SU, 5-3 ATS) has posted five consecutive victories since their lone loss on May 31 in Los Angeles (4-3 SU, 3-3-1 ATS).

-- The Sparks have played just two home games in their seven outings, going 1-1 SU/ATS in their two games at home.

-- Indiana (4-4 SU, 4-4 ATS) has hit the 'under' in each of the past two games, their first consecutive games with an under result after opening with overs in five of their first six outings. Next up is a trip to visit the struggling Dream on June 19.

-- Minnesota (0-4 SU, 2-2 ATS) fired out of the box with a 3-0 SU mark, but they're 1-4 SU across the past five, and 0-5-1 ATS in the past six outings.

-- Las Vegas (4-3 SU, 3-4 ATS) has posted back-to-back victories for the first time this season. While they're been a bit uneven against the spread, they're a friend of total bettors with the 'under' going 6-1 through the first seven games, including each of the past five.

-- New York (3-5 SU, 4-3-1 ATS) saw their mini two-game win streak come to a close, but they're still a solid 4-3-1 ATS across the first eight outings. They have also covered four of the past five outings after opening the season 0-2-1 ATS through the first three.

-- Phoenix (2-4 SU, 2-3-1 ATS) has gotten off to a rough and uncharacteristic slow start. In the two victories, the 'over' is 2-0, and in their four losses the 'under' is a perfect 4-0. They're 1-3 SU/ATS in four games on the road, and they'll likely be heavy favorites on June 20 in Dallas in their next road contest.

-- Seattle (5-4 SU, 5-4 ATS) picked up victories in consecutive games for the first time this season in Indiana and Washington, but Connecticut slapped them back to Earth in a 14-point loss on Sunday. The under is 7-2 through the first nine outings for the defending WNBA champs.

-- Washington (5-2 SU, 4-3 ATS) has ripped off five wins in the first seven outings, and they're 0-2 SU/ATS in two games against the Sun, and 5-0 SU/4-1 ATS in five games against everyone else. The 'under' is also 2-0 in their two outings against Connecticut, and 3-2 against the other five.

# 8 SALTED REVENGE 2/1

# 7 ALBERTA MAXIMUS 6/1

# 1 NEW APPEAL 8/1

SALTED REVENGE appears to be the bet in here. ALBERTA MAXIMUS - Recent figs for the jock - 20 win percent - make this mare stand out in this group of horses. Has been running soundly lately and should be on or close to the front end early on. NEW APPEAL - When Elliott uses Prescott there's a good chance for an increase in income. She has competitive class ratings, averaging 59, and has to be carefully examined in this race.

#2 TEAM HALO (ML=6/1)
#6 JEZABEL'S CHARM (ML=7/2)

TEAM HALO - Hasn't run at today's trip recently but does have a speed rating recorded last time she tried this trip good enough to win. Like the way this mare's finish positions keep getting better. That's a sure sign of improving form. 39-49-58 are last three speed ratings. Improving each time out is something she should do again in today's race. JEZABEL'S CHARM - Have to make this mare a solid contender; she comes off a solid outing on June 1st. Took a significant drop in class rating last time around the track at Thistledown. Returning to a similar level in this field. Should do well.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 LIL COUNTRY GRAD (ML=5/2), #5 NOT A FLIRT (ML=3/1), #7 MARLA DUNNIT (ML=6/1),

LIL COUNTRY GRAD - You figure that this horse is going to win just because she's always close. Just doesn't finish first frequently. NOT A FLIRT - This questionable contender hasn't been close at the finish line lately. Will not be easy for this thoroughbred to beat this group off of that last speed rating. Not probable to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class rating, so put her on the vulnerable competitors list. MARLA DUNNIT - This horse didn't do too much last time finishing fifth. Can't expect any betterment in today's race. Notched a pedestrian fig last time around the track in a $7,500 Claiming race on Jun 1st. Improbable to see an improved performance off of that figure.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - TEAM HALO - I love betting on horses that have a big advantage over the rest of the field when it comes to the TrackMaster Power Rating. This one fits the bill.

# 2 WESTERDAY 15/1

# 3 THERESA'S HONOR 6/1

# 9 NONNIE CONNIE 7/2

I have to consider WESTERDAY in this race and the potential return justifies the dangerous nature of the long odds. With Berrios aboard her, this mare will almost certainly be able to break out early here. THERESA'S HONOR - Looks to have a competitive class edge based on the recent company kept. Recently Acquilano has provided wagerers with a quite good winning percentage with horses racing in dirt sprint races. NONNIE CONNIE - Is a sharp contender based on numbers earned recently under today's conditions.

#8 GEH SCHNELL (ML=9/2)
#3 FINE (ML=15/1)

GEH SCHNELL - When this jockey and trainer unite you have to take a look. Spieth and Girten have been great together. FINE - I believe this equine isn't a natural sprinter. Routing is his best game and those last two sprints should have him set for a big run today. Trainer Cain moves this one down the class scale to face a lower rated field. Look for a good performance with this class drop. This gelding notched a strong speed fig of 76 in his last race. That speed rating should be strong enough to score this time out.

Vulnerable Contenders: #10 KING OF NEW YORK (ML=4/1), #5 TINITUS (ML=5/1), #1 YOKED (ML=6/1),

KING OF NEW YORK - Hard to recommend any horse with lessening Equibase speed figures of 77/73/68. The speed rating last out doesn't fit very well in this race when I look at the class figure of today's race. Mark this mount as a possibly overvalued equine. TINITUS - 5/1 is not enough of a price to take on this participant.

1 Unit FREE PLAY on Detroit Tigers +144
I’ll take a shot on the Tigers as big road dogs to the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight. The Pirates are just 2-8 in their last 10 games overall. It’s hard to fathom how rookie starter Mitch Keller is getting this much respect for the Pirates considering how terrible he has been in two starts this season. Keller has allowed 12 earned runs and 21 base runners in 7 innings for a 15.43 ERA and 3.00 WHIP against the Braves and Reds. Daniel Norris is 9-3 (+10.8 units) as a road dog of +125 to +175 lifetime. Give me the Tigers.

Dave’s Tuesday Free Play:
1* on Houston Astros -1.5 (-107)
The Key: The Astros will be looking to bounce back from two straight losses, including in Game 1 of this series by a final of 2-3 to the Reds. Luis Castillo pitched a gem for Cincinnati, but he is the only really good starter in their rotation. Now the Astros get to feast on Ahtony Desclafini, who is 3-3 with a 4.43 ERA in 13 starts this year, including 1-2 with a 4.79 ERA in 4 home starts. And the Astros send ace Justin Verlander to the rubber. Verlander is 9-2 with a 2.50 ERA and 0.74 WHIP in 15 starts this year with 125 strikeouts in 100 2/3 innings. The Astros are 33-8 in their last 41 road games against a team with a losing record. They should win by at least 2 runs tonight. Take Houston on the Run Line.

10* FREE MLB PICK (Under 9)
I'll take my chances here with the UNDER 9 in Tuesday's AL East clash between the Mets and Braves, which has Jacob deGrom facing off against Julio Teheran. I just think we are seeing a high total here because of the fact that Atlanta has been swinging the bat extremely well. A big reason for that is the lack of quality starting pitching that they have faced. That's not the case here. deGrom has returned to his Cy Young form with a 2.29 ERA and 0.966 WHIP in his last 3 starts. He's also got a stupid good 1.86 ERA in 18 starts vs Atlanta. Teheran has a 2.92 ERA in 15 starts overall, 1.85 ERA in 6 home starts and a 0.53 ERA in his last 3 outings. Give me the UNDER 9!

Jacob de Grom has a 2.29 ERA his last three starts but the Mets lost all three of them. He's now 0-1 with a 2.35 ERA his past five. Sound familiar? It certainly does to de Grom. The Mets rarely provide him with much run support and they're unlikely to do so this evening either. Thats because Teheran has a superb 0.81 ERA over his past eight starts. Teheran has also always pitched well against the Mets. In fact, he's allowed just 10 combined runs in his past eight starts against them. Assuming you can get a nine, consider the UNDER in this one.

MIKE LUNDIN'S METS @ BRAVES FREE PICK
The Atlanta Braves put a 12-3 beating on the New York Mets on Monday night. I expect runs to be fewer and far between here in Game 2 of the series with two red hot pitchers on the mound.
Braves' right-hander Julio Teheran (5-4, 2.92 ERA) has allowed no more than one earned run in any of his last eight starts. He has surrendered just three earned runs over his last 27 2/3 innings of work and held the Mets to one run with six Ks over six innings back on April 14.
The Mets turn to Jacob deGrom (3-6, 3.38 ERA) who has allowed just eight earned runs over his last five starts. deGrom has dominated the Braves throughout his career, entering this contest with a 1.86 ERA through 116 career innings against the club.
Under is 10-3-1 in deGrom's last 14 road starts vs. a team with a winning record. Under is 7-3 in Teheran's last 10 starts overall. Under is 6-1 in deGrom's last 7 starts vs. Braves. Under is 4-1 in Teheran's last 5 home starts vs. Mets.

Jack’s Free Pick Tuesday: Atlanta Braves +112
The Atlanta Braves are playing their best baseball of the season right now and should not be home underdogs to the Mets. The Braves are 10-1 in their last 11 games overall and have scored at least 5 runs in nine straight coming in.
Julio Teheran has actually posted better numbers than Jacob DeGrom this season. Indeed, he is 5-4 with a 2.92 ERA in 15 starts this season, including 3-1 with a 1.85 ERA in six home starts. Teheran is also 2-0 with a 0.53 ERA in his last three starts, allowing just one earned run in 17 innings.
Not to mention, Teheran has owned the Mets throughout his career. He is 10-7 with a 2.16 ERA and 1.038 WHIP in 25 career starts against them. DeGrom is 3-6 with a 3.37 ERA in 14 starts this season for New York. And the Braves (4.04 ERA) have the superior bullpen over the Mets (5.47 ERA).
The Mets are 0-5 in DeGrom’s last five starts vs. a team with a winning record. New York is 6-21 in its last 27 road games. Atlanta is 10-1 in its last 11 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Braves are 6-1 in Teheran’s last seven home starts. Bet the Braves Tuesday.

1* Free MLB Pick on Los Angeles Dodgers -240
I got no problem laying some big time juice with the Dodgers on Tuesday. San Francisco won the series opener 3-2 on Monday, but had just 3 hits in the victory. It's going to be equally hard on them at the plate in game 2, as they go up against Clayton Kershaw.
While Kershaw might not have the overwhelming power that he once possessed, the guy is 6-1 with a 3.25 ERA and 1.083 WHIP in 11 starts. Guy has pitched at least 6 innings in every start he's made in 2019 and LA is a perfect 7-0 in his 7 home starts. He's also owned the Giants. Kershaw has made a ridiculous 45 starts against SF in his career and owns a ridiculous 1.69 ERA in those 45 starts.
Dodgers are 39-13 in their last 52 home games, 52-25 in their last 77 off a loss and 55-13 in Kershaw's last 68 vs a team from the NL West. Take Los Angeles!

Talking about a rock-solid 4 runs or more winner for Tuesday.

You would think that with Jacob de Grom and Julio Teheran doing the mound-work we might be headed for a low-scoring game in Atlanta this Tuesday night, but based on both pitchers season numbers, and based on what both teams - especially the Braves - have been doing at the plate of late, I think we are headed for another Over.

de Grom has seen 2 of his last 3 starts play Over the total, and 9 of his 14 overall starts this season also land Over the total.

Teheran has also seen 2 of his last 3 starts play Over the total, and 8 of his 15 overall starts this season also play Over the total.

Atlanta just continues to knock the cover off of the baseball, as yesterday's series opener against New York saw the braves pick up where they left off after Philadelphia left town on Sunday when they plated 15 runs, as the Braves opened with a cool dozen last night versus the Mets.

The Braves have now played Overs in 9 in a row, and they are 17-2 Over the total overall in their last 19 games contested!

With last night's Over, the Mets have now gone Over the total in 6 of their last 7 games.

de Grom and Teheran are certainly capable of shutting down the attacks tonight, but the way the Braves have been rolling, I am not going against another Over just yet.

The Over is now 3-1-1 thus far in this year's season series, and right now it makes no sense in playing an Atlanta game to land Under the total.

Mets-Braves to slip Over the total for Tuesday.

My free play for tonight is on the Angels in Toronto, as they continue their road trip and have the advantage with this pitching matchup.

Tyler Skaggs finally celebrated a win, and I think he'll carry the momentum into tonight's game. Skaggs won for the first time since May 13 in his last start, as he twirled a five-inning, three-run gem against the hard-hitting and American League East-leading Tampa Bay Rays.

The left-hander is much better than his 5-6 mark and 5.00 ERA, and he'll come in with confidence, as he's 3-2 with a 3.93 ERA in six career starts against these Blue Jays.

On the flipside, the Jays hand the ball to Stroman, who has a 4.82 ERA in three June starts, having allowed a combined 10 earned runs over 18 2/3 innings.

The Angels won last night 10-5, as Mike Trout went 4-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBIs. Look for the offensive momentum to spill over, as the Halos shine.

2* ANGELS (Skaggs over Stroman)

Cleveland and Texas entered Monday's action playing some winning baseball, and it was Texas that continued with that winning baseball, taking the series opener by a 7-2 score.

That win puts the Rangers at 3-1 their last 4, and a rock-solid 25-12 when playing in Arlington this season. The loss by the Indians snapped a 3 game winning streak, and was just their fourth in their last dozen played.

I like the Tribe tonight to even things in this 4 game set behind the youngster Zach Plesac who will bounce-back from his worst start in his young major league career. Plesac was touched up for 4 runs in his 5-plus innings of work in a loss to Cincinnati his last time out. That after allowing just 4 total runs in his 19-plus previous frames of work.

Adrian Sampson will oppose Plesac, and he ran into some trouble his last time out too, as he had a 5-start winning streak halted by the Boston Red Sox - 6 runs on 7 hits, with 4 of the hits being home runs - as Sampson escaped with the no-decision. Sampson has done quality work at Globe Life Park where he is 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA, but with Hunter Pence now sidelined in a lineup that also has Joey Gallo and Nomar Mazara also ailing, you wonder how much longer the Rangers can continue at this winning clip they have been on?

Even with the loss last night, Cleveland is still 10-4 over the last 14 series meetings against Texas.

Going to look for the Indians to level this 4 game set with the win here on Tuesday night.

2* CLEVELAND

Out of pure general principle, I'm taking the Minnesota Twins over the Boston Red Sox, and I won't bother listing pitchers.

The Red Sox got a fine performance from Rick Porcello last night, and now the Twins will be out for revenge. I don't care that David Price is going for the Crimson Hose, it doesn't matter to me. I also don't care about Minnesota's Michael Pineda.

What matters to me is how well Jose Berrios pitched for the Twins last night, only to have his team fail to win because their vaunted offense that leads the majors with a .273 batting average couldn't come through.

Tonight, it will, at Target Field, where the Twins are 23-12.

And we're going to see guys like Jorge Polanco, Eddie Rosario and Nelson Cruz come to life at the plate tonight, leading the charge in the second game of this three-game set.

Polanco leads the club with a batting average of .332, Rosario leads the Twins with 19 home runs and has 52 RBIs and Cruz is hitting .351 (13-for-37) with two doubles, five home runs and 11 RBIs over his last 10 games.

Take the Twins, as they bring the bats tonight.

COMPLIMENTARY WINNER

I'll be quick with this freebie on the Houston Astros, as I think we own the pitching matchup tonight, even though the Cincinnati Reds have the third-best ERA in baseball.

The Astros hand the ball to veteran Justin Verlander, who just struck out a career-high 15 batters last Wednesday against the hard-hitting Milwaukee Brewers.

Verlander is 9-2 on the year with a 2.41 ERA, and is easily among the leading candidates - along with Tampa Bay's Charlie Morton - for the American League Cy Young Award.

The Reds are good on the mound, but their hitting is atrocious, and their hitters will struggle against Verlander.

Meanwhile, Houston's volatile offense should get to Anthony DeSclafani, who makes his first-ever start against the Astros. DeSclafani is 3-2 with a 4.27 ERA in nine career Interleague games.

The Astros, who are 21-14 on the road this season, have the fourth-best batting average in baseball, at .265, and the ninth-most runs scored, with 379.

Houston wins big tonight.

WNBA Lady Luck: June 18 free picks, predictions and betting odds

Candace Parker, a two-time WNBA MVP, averaged almost 18 points per game in 2018 and adds another weapon to a L.A. offense ranked third in scoring in the league, pouring in 81.1 points per game.

There’s only a single game on the WNBA betting odds board Tuesday but it so happens to feature the return of one of the league’s all-time greats, when the Washington Mystics visit the Los Angeles Sparks for a late 10:30 p.m. ET tipoff.

We size up tonight’s odds and give our best bets and WNBA predictions in our daily "Lady Luck".

Washington Mystics at Los Angeles Sparks (-3, 162.5)

One of the biggest stars of the WNBA returns to action Tuesday night. Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker has been cleared to play after missing the start of the 2019 schedule with a hamstring injury.

Parker, a two-time WNBA MVP, averaged almost 18 points per game in 2018 and adds another weapon to a L.A. offense ranked third in scoring in the league, pouring in 81.1 points per game.

The 6-foot-4 Parker should also help improve the Sparks defense (even if she plays limited minutes), which has struggled in recent contests. Los Angeles is allowing an average of 85 points against on 42.9 percent shooting over the past four games, going 2-2 SU and ATS in those outings.

While L.A. brings back its top talent (and possibly Alana Beard, who is listed as questionable tonight), the Washington Mystics are missing some important role players. Emma Meesseman and Kim Mestdagh have been “suspended” by the team while they participate in the Women’s EuroBasket tournament for Belgium.

Meesseman was scoring 13.3 points per contest while Mestdagh was logging more than 16 minutes per game and scoring three points per outing off the bench. Washington has undoubtedly missed them, dropping their past two games without the duo and scoring just 71 and 75 points in defeats to Connecticut and Seattle.

Los Angeles, on the other hand, has played well without Parker and Beard to start the year. The Sparks are 4-3 and 3-3-1 ATS and getting terrific work from sisters Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike as well as guard Chelsea Gray. Take L.A. to cover the spread at home tonight.

PREDICTION: Los Angeles -3

STREAKING AND SLUMPING STARTING PITCHERS

STREAKING

Cole Hamels, Chicago Cubs (6-2, 2.98 ERA, $465): Hamels is another veteran who just needed a change of scenery. He has been fantastic since joining the Cubs and boy, the lefty sure is dialed in right now. Hamels hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last three starts on just 11 hits with 23 strikeouts. He and the Cubs hope to keep it rolling when they host their cross-town rivals tonight. The Cubs are currently hefty -225 favorites with a total of 8.

SLUMPING

Jake Arrieta, Philadelphia Phillies (6-5, 4.31 ERA, $109): The Phillies haven’t been as dominant as many expected them to be this season and starting pitching, including Arrieta, has been one of the problems.

Arrieta has been roughed up over his last three starts, pitching to a 7.47 ERA and an even uglier 2.11 WHIP, while walking nearly as many batters (10) as he has struck out (11). He has also given up five dingers over that span. The Phillies hope Arrieta gets back on track when they visit the Nationals. Philly is currently a +140 road dog with a total of 9.5.

3 STRIKES

SO WE MEET AGAIN

Marlins right-hander Jordan Yamamoto made his career debut last week against the Cardinals and threw seven innings of scoreless ball, allowing just three hits in the process. Not only did he impress on the mound but he also drove in a run on a bunt. Yamamoto will make his second start today, once again versus the Cardinals.

The Cards are an impressive 21-13 at home and will be starting Jack Flaherty (4-3, 4.28 ERA). The Marlins are just 2-9 in their last 11 games overall and have +190 odds to pull off the upset tonight.

BOUNCE BACK GAME

The Dodgers had an uncommon home loss to the Giants last night, which means they've dropped two of their last three games at Dodger Stadium. Even with those two defeats they're still 21-5 in their last 26 games at home and should be in a good position to get back on track with lefty Clayton Kershaw on the mound.

Kershaw is 6-1 with a 3.13 ERA and 1.08 WHIP, and the Dodgers have won 18 of the last 19 regular season games that Kershaw has started going back to last season. San Fran is dead-last in the majors in both batting average (.224) and slugging percentage (.338) against southpaws. The Dodgers are -240 favorites for this matchup with the -1.5 run line paying out at -115.

KEEP ON SURVIVING

User just won $25,000 in our Streak Survivor Contest and is four wins away from winning $100,000. Mctrap has won an incredible 21 games in a row and his pick for tonight is the Over 9 between the Royals and Mariners.

Currently the O/U for that game is set at 9.5 at many books but tailing the Over still makes lots of sense. Seattle has gone 50-23-3 to the Over in 2019 and will be starting Yusei Kikuchi who is 3-4 with a 4.78 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. Homer Bailey and his 5.37 ERA will take to the mound for the Royals.
