Boston Celtics vs. Toronto Raptors Preview and Predictions 12-25-2019

The Boston Celtics have several players capable of taking over a game offensively, and Jayson Tatum is taking his turn to star of late. Tatum and the Celtics will try to push the current winning streak to four in a row when they visit the depleted but pesky Toronto Raptors on Wednesday in a Christmas Day showdown.

Tatum scored 22 of his career-high 39 points in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 119-93 win over the Charlotte Hornets and is averaging 29.7 points during the three-game winning streak. "I just tried to stay aggressive," Tatum told reporters. "We all have that mentality on this team. What happened on the last play? You just forget it and keep playing. I feel we've done a good job this year of (finding) different guys who have had really good nights. Just try to make the right play and find the guy who's hot. Felt good just to see some shots go in." The Raptors are down three key players with Pascal Siakam (groin), Marc Gasol (hamstring) and Norman Powell (shoulder) out but were winners of five in a row before taking the Pacers to overtime in Indiana on Monday and falling 120-115. "Better start and rebounding," Toronto point guard Kyle Lowry told reporters of what was missing in the loss. "But, I mean, listen, we gutted it out, we played our butts off, gave ourselves a chance to win at the end, but unfortunately we came up short."

TV: Noon ET, ESPN, NBCS Boston, Sportsnet One (Toronto)

ABOUT THE CELTICS (20-7): Kemba Walker (22.6 points) leads the team in scoring but Boston is deep enough to survive an off night - as it did when Walker scored two points on 0-of-6 shooting in a 114-93 victory over Detroit on Friday - from any of its top scorers. "We just need to keep doing that, keep finding other guys, just keep making the right play over and over," Boston coach Brad Stevens told reporters after Sunday's win. "I thought all the plays (Tatum) made attacking the basket and shooting the ball were right. Just focus on that. Don't worry about anything else." The Celtics shot 52.6 percent from the floor in Sunday's win.

ABOUT THE RAPTORS (21-9): Lowry is stepping up during the latest rash of injuries and was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week on Monday, before collecting 30 points, nine assists and six rebounds against the Pacers. Veteran big man Serge Ibaka is taking on a bigger role as well and moved into the starting lineup with Gasol out, averaging 17 points and eight rebounds in three games in that role. Guard Fred VanVleet collected 21 points and 11 assists on Monday and is averaging 16.3 points over the last three contests.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Celtics SF Gordon Hayward (foot) sat out the last three games but is expected to play Wednesday.

2. Raptors SF OG Anunoby collected 15 points and 12 rebounds on Monday for his third double-double of the season.

3. Boston downed Toronto 112-106 at home on Oct. 25 behind 25 points apiece from Tatum and Brown.

PREDICTION: Celtics 113, Raptors 108

Milwaukee Bucks vs. Philadelphia 76ers Preview and Predictions 12-25-2019

The Milwaukee Bucks own the best record in the NBA and are not having any problem knocking off the other top teams in the Eastern Conference. The Bucks will try to cruise past another East foe when they visit the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday in a Christmas Day showcase.

Milwaukee won 21 of its last 22 games, including a 117-89 demolition of the Indiana Pacers on Sunday, and is looking forward to a defensive battle with the bigger 76ers. "It's going to be a great game, it's going to be so much fun," Bucks center Brook Lopez told reporters. "People are going to get beat up, complain about fouls, whatever. I don't know what's going to go on. But we obviously, I think everyone's excited and up for this game. It's an easy one to get up for - it's on Christmas Day. It's going to be a great game for us." The 76ers pulled out of a funk that saw them drop three in a row by cruising to easy wins over Washington and Detroit in the last two contests, scoring 125 points in each victory. "We're getting a better feel for (playing against zone defense), better things we know will work, some better sets, and a little bit more movement towards it," Philadelphia forward Tobias Harris told reporters. "Also, we're making more shots against the zone when teams present. That's a good formula to get yourself out of it."

TV: 2:30 p.m. ET, ABC

ABOUT THE BUCKS (27-4): Milwaukee hasn't lost to an Eastern Conference foe since falling at Boston on Oct. 30 and locked up the Pacers on Sunday, holding them to 34 points in the second half and 37 percent shooting for the game. "It's just important that we keep doing what we do best and that's playing defense," Lopez, who recorded two of the team's nine blocks in the win, told reporters. "We did that for the majority of the game. We kept grinding and we finally got to the point, I think mid-third and then late fourth, where we kind of blew it open." Reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo collected 18 points, 19 rebounds and nine assists on Sunday and is averaging 31 points, 12.9 boards and 5.6 assists.

ABOUT THE 76ERS (22-10): Philadelphia's three-game slide featured teams playing zone defense and relying on the 76ers to miss shots, and the team found a formula to defeat that with point guard Ben Simmons crashing the lane and collapsing defenses. Simmons finished with 16 points, a career-high 17 assists and 13 rebounds in Monday's 125-109 win at Detroit to record his 24th career triple-double. "Just trying to be a force downhill," Simmons explained to reporters. "Trying to find open guys when they're open."

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Bucks SG Wesley Matthews is averaging 16 points over the last two games after being held to single digits in each of the previous eight contests.

2. 76ers SG Matisse Thybulle (knee sprain) sat out Monday and is expected to be sidelined two-to-four weeks.

3. Antetokounmpo averaged 43 points and 15.7 rebounds in three games against Philadelphia last season - winning two.

PREDICTION: Bucks 128, 76ers 120

Houston Rockets vs. Golden State Warriors Preview and Predictions 12-25-2019

The Golden State Warriors versus the Houston Rockets looked like a more intriguing matchup when the schedule was first released, before the rash of injuries to star players sent the Warriors plummeting to the bottom of the standings. Instead, Draymond Green, D'Angelo Russell and the Warriors' plucky group of youngsters will try to earn three straight wins for the first time this season when they host the Rockets on Wednesday.

Golden State had yet to earn back-to-back wins on the season before picking on a pair of fellow Western Conference foes down on their luck in the New Orleans Pelicans and Minnesota Timberwolves to begin the five-game homestand. "We needed this (win) regardless of what is coming next," Warriors coach Steve Kerr told reporters after Monday's 113-104 win over Minnesota. "We just needed to win a couple of games in a row just to get a little momentum and feel good." The Rockets are where they expected to be - competing in the top half of the West behind former MVPs Russell Westbrook and James Harden. Houston knocked off the Los Angeles Clippers, Phoenix Suns and Sacramento Kings on the first three stops of the four-game trip and are winners of six in a row on the road.

TV: 5 p.m. ET, ABC

ABOUT THE ROCKETS (21-9): Houston got 34 points from Harden and 28 from Westbrook in Monday's 113-104 win at Sacramento but had to work down the stretch when the shots stopped falling in the fourth quarter. "I thought we did a good job to finish at a high rate," Westbrook told reporters. "Stayed true to ourselves, leaned on our defense, not offense. ... We lean on defense every night. We have, obviously, great offense." The anchor of that defense is center Clint Capela, who collected 15 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks on Monday to record a double-double with multiple blocks for the sixth time in the last seven games.

ABOUT THE WARRIORS (7-24): The absence of Klay Thompson (knee) and Stephen Curry (hand) along with the departures of championship-level staples like Shaun Livingston, Andre Iguodala and Kevin Durant give Golden State a much different look, and Green is trying to mold his young teammates into pieces that can compete for the next championship run. "It feels (expletive) amazing," Green told reporters after collecting nine points, 14 rebounds and five assists in Monday's win. "I never thought I'd be so excited for two regular-season wins in my life." Russell led the way with 30 points against the Timberwolves and is averaging 27 over the last three contests.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Warriors SF Glenn Robinson III (ankle) sat out Monday and is day-to-day.

2. Rockets SG Danuel House Jr. scored in double figures in each of the last three games and is 14-of-25 from the floor in that span.

3. Harden collected 36 points, 13 assists, three steals and three blocks in Houston's 129-112 home win over Golden State on Nov. 6.

PREDICTION: Rockets 119, Warriors 105

L.A. Clippers vs. Los Angeles Lakers Preview and Predictions 12-25-2019

LeBron James and Anthony Davis are expected to try and play when the Los Angeles Lakers clash with the visiting Los Angeles Clippers on Christmas Day at the Staples Center. James is dealing with a thoracic muscle strain in his back while Davis has an injured right knee as the Lakers attempt to halt a season-worst three-game slide.

James missed his first game of the season on Sunday due to the injury and he and Davis are listed as questionable for the second version of the Los Angeles showdown. The Clippers prevailed 112-102 on Oct. 22, the opening night of the season, despite forward Paul George being sidelined after offseason surgeries on both shoulders. With George and Kawhi Leonard now on the Clippers, the contest is one of the most anticipated games thus far this season. "It's a little bit like the playoffs," Lakers coach Frank Vogel told reporters. "You want to be jacked up. But sometimes the best mental approach to the playoffs is managing your adrenaline and managing the edge. But let's start with the edge first. Bring the juice first. If we're overboard with it, we can always pull back. But you don't want to be it the other way around."

TV: 8 p.m. ET, ABC, ESPN

ABOUT THE CLIPPERS (22-10): George is thrilled to be playing in front of his family on Christmas Day and understands all the hype surrounding the contest. "It is going to be crazy," George told ESPN. "Playing on Christmas is one of the biggest things but then the matchup that is going to be on that floor. Two top 10 players on each side, both teams with loaded benches. I think as a competitor, you want to play against the best. It will make for a great show." Leonard (knee) sat out Sunday's game against Oklahoma City and should be well-rested for the Lakers.

ABOUT THE LAKERS (24-6): James and Davis participated in a walk-through on Tuesday and that at least left no possibility for a setback after both players sat out Monday's practice. James has been ailing for a week but clearly wants to play on the Christmas Day stage while Davis rates as having the better chance of playing between the two. Forward Kyle Kuzma will see increased playing time after scoring 16 points in 21 minutes against Denver on Sunday after missing the previous five games with an ankle injury.

BUZZER BEATERS

1. Leonard scored 30 points in his Clippers' debut in the season-opening win over the Lakers.

2. Clippers PG Patrick Beverley (groin) practiced Tuesday and is expected to return after a one-game absence.

3. Lakers backup C Dwight Howard is 18-of-20 shooting over the past five games.

PREDICTION: Clippers 114, Lakers 112

LIKE FEDEX, DEFENDING CHAMPIONS DELIVER

For the most part, Christmas Day has been a gifting experience for NBA’s defending champions.

It seems the better the opponent the better they perform. That’s confirmed by a 4-5 SU and 2-7 ATS mark against sub .666 foes, but a 9-7 SU and 9-6-1 ATS record against .666 or greater opponents.

Better yet, defending champions are 9-3 SU and 9-2-1 ATS on Christmas Day against foes playing with two or more days of rest.

UNDER THE CHRISTMAS TREE

Christmas Day brings solid defensive efforts out in teams on Santa’s Day.

Since 1991 all games are 35-52-5 O/U, including 5-21-2 O/U in games involving .777 or greater teams.

Expect low scoring contests in the Clippers-Lakers and the Bucks-76ers tilts on Wednesday.

THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING

Since 1997, teams on Christmas Day playing off back-to-back SU and ATS losses (Los Angeles Lakers), the last as a favorite, are 10-2 SU and 11-1 ATS... including 10-1 SU and 10-0 for teams that are not installed as double-digit dogs.

Now, who said Santa Claus isn’t real?

Games to Watch

Wednesday – Celtics at Raptors
Toronto keeps getting themselves into holes and digging out of them with Nick Nurse employing gimmick defenses one might face in a rec league. They rallied from 30 points down at Dallas and forced overtime Monday at Indiana despite falling behind by 15 points thanks to a box-and-one and 2-3 zone. With Pascal Siakam, Marc Gasol and Norman Powell all sidelined, Serge Ibaka and Patrick McCaw have joined the starting five and OG Anunoby is getting more touches. Boston remains without Marcus Smart and Gordon Hayward but could get the latter back from a sore foot for this one. Smart has begun practices but remains unlikely to play on Christmas Day. The team got a big boost with Enes Kanter being allowed to enter Canada after years skipping the road trip due to his issues with the Turkish government forcing him to feel unsafe outside of the U.S. Boston has won three of the past four meetings between these Atlantic Division rivals, averaging 112 points per game and giving up exactly that figure as well due to a blow out loss (118-95) last time they visited the ScotiaBank Arena in February. The Raptors have won eight straight home games against Boston, last losing in April of 2015.

Wednesday – Bucks at 76ers
Joel Embiid played through a flu bug on Monday, while Ben Simmons did the heavy lifting in a rout of overmatched Detroit with 16 points, 13 boards and 17 assists, helping facilitate Tobias Harris’ 35-point outburst. The 76ers have dropped their last three games against teams with winning records and are were installed as just a one-point favorite, by far the smallest figure they’ve been saddled with at home this season. Following a 14-0 start at Wells Fargo Arena, Philly has fallen in two of its last three in its gym. Milwaukee’s 12-2 road mark is the best in the NBA, but it remains without Eric Bledsoe (fibula fracture) for at least another week. The Bucks have won four of seven between these teams since 2018 began and the last five games have all seen 225 combined points scored, including over 250 in each of last season’s final two meetings.

Wednesday – Clippers at Lakers
Although the Clips have won 20 of 24 matchups in what is undoubtedly the worst nightmare for fans of the Purple and Gold, the only game that really matters for our purposes is that 112-102 loss at the beginning of the season. Paul George didn’t even suit up, but LeBron James and Anthony Davis shot a combined 15-for-40 and the Clippers’ much better bench outscored the Lakers 60-19 to complement Kawhi Leonard’s 30-point outburst. Rajon Rondo and Kyle Kuzma are both back to improve the Lakers’ depth, but Davis is questionable with a knee issue and James is likely to suit up despite sitting Sunday’s home setback to Denver with discomfort near his ribs in addition to an ailing elbow. The Lakers are just 10-4 at Staples this season and 14-2 outside L.A. The Clippers are 14-2 on their home floor but will have to deal with a Lakers’ crowd here.

Thursday – Spurs at Mavericks
After destroying the Grizzlies 145-115 on Monday night behind monster games from LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan and 67 percent shooting, the highest clip in the league this season, the Spurs look to win consecutive games for just the third time this season. They made 19 of their first 22 shots and wil look to avoid dropping multiple games against Dallas in the same season for the first time since the 2014-15 season. The Mavs won last month at home 117-110, snapping a run that had seen them lose 15 of 17 against their in-state rival. Luka Doncic scored 42 points and finished with 11 boards and 12 assists but isn’t likely to suit up here since he’s still working his way back from an ankle sprain. Jalen Brunson has excelled as the primary facilitator in helping keep Dallas right behind Houston in the Southwest Division title chase, averaging 14.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 9.2 assists in relief of the fallen phenom.

Friday – Pacers at Heat
Indiana is hoping to have point guard Malcolm Brogdon back from a hamstring issue as they try and spoil Miami’s league-best 13-1 home record. The Heat rallied past Utah on Monday night and will be suiting up for the first time since that game here, so they should be well-rested fresh off the holiday. The same could be said about the Pacers, who have won six of seven despite nagging injuries as Domantas Sabonis has blossomed into an All-Star, averaging 16.8 points and 14.3 rebounds in December. This will be the first matchup of the season between these teams, which gives us an opportunity to see how another budding first-time All-Star, center Bam Adebayo, fares against Sabonis and Myles Turner. Indy has won four straight in the series, last losing in January of 2018.

Saturday – Raptors at Celtics
Boston should be back at full strength for this one barring any setbacks for Hayward and Smart, so count on it being favored here regardless of what happens on Christmas Day considering that it should be 13-1 at TD Garden after handling Cleveland on Friday. The Celtics are 2-1 SU and ATS on the second night of back-to-backs and entered the week with covers in seven of nine.

Saturday – Nets at Rockets
Houston won for the sixth time in seven games in Sacramento on Monday and will be heavily favored to close out a 4-0 road trip on Christmas night at Golden State. This will be their first home game since Dec. 16 and probably won’t feature Kyrie Irving’s only visit of the season since there’s a report out there that he’s now dealing with thoracic bursitis in addition to his shoulder impingement that has kept him out for weeks. Spencer Dinwiddie has averaged 27.3 points despite shooting just 29 percent from 3-point range this month. Brooklyn swept the Rockets last season, averaging 134 points in ending a five-game losing streak at the hands of Houston.

Saturday – 76ers at Heat
After splitting their first two meetings with Miami at home in this budding rivalry, the Sixers pay former teammate Jimmy Butler a visit looking to return the favor after absorbing their first home loss against the Heat (108-104) on Dec. 18. Embiid used to terrorize former Miami center Hassan Whiteside in winning five of six matchups entering the season but has found the going much tougher against Adebayo. The Sixers haven’t been an underdog since Nov. 13 but may be placed in that role here after playing in Orlando on Friday. Both teams will be playing the second of a back-to-back. Philly is 5-1 straight up (3-2-1 ATS) while Miami is just 1-4 SU in that situation.

Saturday – Lakers at Trail Blazers
After competing against the Clippers, L.A. will play its only road game between now and Jan. 10, returning for a five-game homestand that opens on Sunday. Portland had its season-best four-game win streak snapped in an upset loss to New Orleans on Monday and hopes to rebound at Utah mid-week. The Blazers surrendered 136 points in the first meeting between these teams. Only the Bucks have scored more (137) against Terry Stotts’ team this season.

Saturday – Jazz at Clippers
Mike Conley remains sidelined by a hamstring issue, but Joe Ingles is playing the best ball of his career to help keep Utah in the Northwest Division mix. The addition of Jordan Clarkson should help matters too. Among the teams with the Western Conference’s six best records, the Jazz are the only one with a losing record away from home.

Sunday – Thunder at Raptors
Considering they host the Grizzlies and visit Charlotte to open the week, OKC may carry a six-game home winning streak entering this one if they hold serve in games it should be favored in. Canadian second-year guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is a Toronto native who scored 19 points in his lone visit to his hometown arena with the Clippers last season. He should be in every DFS lineup you utilize on Sunday considering he’s averaging over 20 points per game this month, scoring 32 in each of last weekend’s wins over the Suns and Clippers, shooting 58 percent from the field and making four of five 3-pointers.

Sunday - Mavericks at Lakers
Will Doncic be back for this one? He made Staples Center his playground in a 114-100 upset on Dec. 1, evening the season series between these teams.

Injuries to Monitor

Karl-Anthony Towns has missed four straight games with a knee injury, contributing to the Timberwolves’ brutal 11-game winning streak. He’s been listed as questionable every time he’s sat so there’s a chance he’ll return for Thursday’s matchup at Sacramento… Phoenix center Deandre Ayton has returned from suspension but is nursing an ankle injury and hasn’t suited up since his 18-point, 12-rebound game in his one contest against the Clippers but should be back at some point this week since he’s considered day-to-day. Phoenix has dropped seven straight entering a four-game road trip that begins on Friday… Detroit got a terrible effort from Blake Griffin in Monday’s loss due to the flu and was also missing shooter Luke Kennard due to a knee injury. Bruce Brown has been dealing with a calf issue… Brooklyn’s Caris LeVert should be closing in on a return date since he’s been back at practice this week for the first time, which means he’ll beat Irving back… Cavs reserve forward Larry Nance, Jr. is working through knee soreness… Heat wing Justise Winslow has returned to the active roster, so he should be back after being sidelined with nagging injuries for the better part of the last month… Wizards forward Davis Bertans has been one of the team’s biggest surprises but is dealing with a quad injury, which is disappointing since he was filling in nicely for injured rookie Rui Hachimura, who is out a indefinitely with a groin injury.

# 4 DOGTOWN 5/2

# 2 CITY GOLD 3/1

# 5 TIZ FROM BOSTON 2/1

I've got to go with DOGTOWN. Has solid Equibase Speed Figures and has to be considered for a bet in here. Bettors should probably take a good look at this one as this gelding has one of the best win percentages at this distance in this field. Garnered a very good speed rating last time out. CITY GOLD - Betancourt has a sharp winning percentage with horses racing in dirt route races. With Diaz aboard him, this gelding ought to be able to break out sharply in this event. TIZ FROM BOSTON - Has to be given consideration versus this group displaying solid figures recently and an average Equibase speed fig of 88 under similar conditions. He has a decent distance/surface win record - 4 out of 14.

MIKE LUNDIN'S BUCKS @ 76ERS XMAS DAY FREE PICK
The Milwaukee Bucks might not be all that happy about spending Christmas Day away from their families for a road game, but I think they'll be looking to make sure it's worth the trouble and come out all guns blazing.
They're a solid 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games as a favorite, and while Philly has been solid as a dog I don't see them keeping pace with the visitors in this one. We can also note that Philadelphia has hit a bit of a rough patch lately, dropping three of its last five straight up while covering the spread in only one of those five games.
Milwaukee has seemingly made it a mission to beat down on other competitors in the East this season, most recently defeating Indiana by almost 30 points.
Free pick on Milwaukee Bucks.

Lebron James and the Lakers will be fired up playing their hometown rivals on Christmas day. The Clippers have a solid team but always seem to take a back seat to the Lakers in Tinseltown. It should be an exciting game with the Lakers winning.

OVER 219
The nightcap on the Christmas Day schedule sees the New Orleans Pelicans 8-23 (12-19 ATS) taking on the Denver Nuggets. 21-8 (13-14-2 ATS) Starting lineups should look like Holiday, Redick, Ingram, Favors, & Williams. For Denver Jokic, Murray, Millsap, Harris, and Barton.
The Nuggets are rolling of late and are showing the NBA that 2018/19 wasn't a fluke as they've gotten out to a 21-8 start. They're in 2nd place in the West, and still flying under most people's radar's. Leading Denver is of course the Joker. Averaging 19.9 points, 9.4 rebounds and 7.9 assists. For New Orleans without Zion everything goes thru Holiday and Ingram. Last game out Holiday finished with 21 points and Ingram scored or assisted on 21 of the Pelicans first 27 points. Lets not forget Derrick Favors, who posted 12 points and 13 rebounds. They have been playing good defense of late but they haven't played the Nuggets, and they'll have to keep up in this one. I think they can.
Really like these two teams to trade punches on Christmas Day. They can both score in bunches and neither team is scared to shoot the 3-ball, so we should get a ton of back and forth action to end our night.
Some trends to consider. The total has gone OVER in 4 of Denver's last 5 games this season, and the total has gone OVER in 7 of Denver's last 10 games against an opponent in the Southwest division. In their last 3 games head to head these two teams have averaged 222PPG, and the home team is 7-2 ATS in their last 9.
Play on the OVER 219.
Good Luck, Razor Ray.

Your comp winner for this Christmas NBA card is the Lakers to square their city-series season numbers with the Clippers in this second meeting of the season between the teams.

These teams met on opening night with the Clippers winning it 112-102 in the debut of Kawhi Leonard. Paul George was not available that night, but will be on the floor for this round two grudge-match.

Doc Rivers' team has been trending "cool" of late as they enter this "road" game having dropped 3 of their last 5 straight up, while Frank Vogel's team has been trending "cold" with losses in a season-high 3 in a row entering this home game.

There are some big names listed on the injury report as the teams get ready to battle tonight. For the Clippers Kawhi Leonard and Patrick Beverley are both listed as questionable, while for the Lakers LeBron James and Anthony Davis are both listed as questionable, but I would guess that all of them will try their best to be on the floor for this holiday showcase game.

The Lakers may have been blowout at home by Denver in their last contest, but they did get Kyle Kuzma back in the lineup after he was missing in action with an ankle injury.

I just don't see the Lakers dropping a 4th straight.

Go with LeBron to will his team to the Christmas Night win tonight at the Staples Center.

Last game on the Christmas NBA 5 game slate is going to be a double-digit blowout winner on the Denver Nuggets to roll the New Orleans Pelicans.

Denver is fresh off a 113-111 nail-biter of a win at Phoenix on Monday night and now head back home having won 7 straight games. At home the Nuggets sport a 13-3 straight up mark.

New Orleans has followed a 13-game losing streak with wins in 2 of their last 3 games, but this will be their 4th straight road game over the past 7 days - and on Christmas night no less!

The Pels are just 4-12 straight up on their road and a not-much-better 5-10-1 against the spread on the road this season. Yes, New Orleans did pull a Halloween night shocker at home over Denver, 122-107, but I don't think this holiday meeting is going to produce any kind of shocker this evening in the Mile High City.

Denver allows just 102 points per game to be scored against them, while New Orleans is allowing almost 118 points per game to be scored on them. It won't take long for this game to turn into a runaway for the home team.

Play the Nuggets as they take this one over the Pelicans by a solid 15 points.

For your Christmas Day freebie, we’ll lay the chalk with the Nuggets against New Orleans in the nightcap of today’s NBA quintuple-header.

Denver has followed up a three-game losing skid with seven consecutive victories, including back-to-back road wins at the LeBron-less Lakers (128-104) and Suns (113-111) on Sunday and Monday. Going back to Nov. 14, the Nuggets are 10-1 on their home floor, the lone blemish coming against the Lakers.

Admittedly, Denver hasn’t exactly been a profitable bet-on team at home, going 7-8-1 ATS. But the Nuggets are a respectable 6-4-1 ATS during their current 10-1 run at home. More importantly, they’ve cashed more tickets at home than the Pelicans have on the road—New Orleans is just 5-10-1 ATS as a visitor, part of a dismal 11-19-1 pointspread record (2-4 ATS as an underdog of more than 7 points).

Yes, the Hornets have followed up an ugly 13-game losing skid by winning two of their last three on a four-game road trip that ends tonight. But those wins came against the TWolves and Blazers—not exactly the same caliber of competition as the Pelicans will face tonight in Denver.

Lastly, this is a big revenge game for the Nuggets, who went to New Orleans on Halloween night and got spanked 122-107 as a four-point road underdog. This time, the Nuggets get the Pelicans—who are playing their fourth road game in eight nights—on their home floor on Christmas night, and they’ll be very determined to give their fans one final holiday gift: A blowout win over an outmatched opponent.
