The Knicks were blasted last night against the Lakers and expect more of the same here. The Jazz have won seven straight games and 11 of their last 12 overall and they have won seven of the last 10 meetings against the Knicks, including averaging a robust 133 points in sweeping the season series last year. The Knicks are 0-3 on this four-game road trip and once again playing shorthanded tonight. The Knicks are an amazing 23-5 ATS the last 28 meetings and 14-3 ATS the last 17 in Utah, which are hard trends to ignore, but expect the Jazz to win big.

Some see this as a letdown spot for the Badgers after their big win over the Buckeyes, however they have won 15 consecutive meetings against Illinois. Illinois comes into this game off a dominant game against Purdue and feeling good about this matchup. The Badgers have won all seven home games by double figures and they lead the Big Ten in free-throw shooting. The Badgers are allowing just over 60 points per game overall. Illinois is just 1-4 on the road.

This game has all the makings for a low-scoring defensive game for a few reasons. The Heels are a banged-up group and they are struggling shooting the rock from everywhere on the court. That figures to be a struggle against a Panthers' defense that allows just 60 points per game. The problem for the Panthers is they also struggle shooting the rock, averaging just 66 points per game, 300th in the nation. They're 328th in the nation from beyond the arc and both teams are shooting 40 percent from the floor, ranking 283 and 323 respectively. The Heels are shooting just 65 percent from the free-throw line.

The Bearcats have struggled from beyond the arc and they face a Tulsa team that is playing well defensively the past few games. The Bearcats are allowing just over 68 points per game, while Tulsa allows just over 66. Despite the Over cashing in five straight meetings, look for a low scoring, defensive battle this time out.

1-Unit Play. Take #782 Georgetown (-4) over St. John's (6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8)
Georgetown was flying high and went on a rush after they kicked four guys off the team in late November. However, they have come back to earth with back-to-back blowout losses. That said, I think a lot of that was circumstance. Both games were on the road and both games were against top-tier opponents in Providence and Seton Hall. Also, they didn't have star guard Mac McClung for one of the games and he wasn't fully healthy for the other. I think the team has had time to regroup and I think that they will get back on the winning track. I think that St. John's played over its head in the nonconference. They played a relatively feeble nonconference schedule and their wins over WVU and Arizona were by a combined five points.
1-Unit Play. Take #799 Mississippi State (+3.5) over Alabama (7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8)
Here are two teams that just haven't beaten anyone or done anything yet this season. However, I think that the Bulldogs are the more talented team. They have a slight edge in experience and a major edge on the interior. They should be able to control the paint and that will give them a significant advantage. Also, the Crimson Tide are still getting used to new head coach Nate Oats and the Bulldogs are a little more settled in their system. Throw in the points and I'll bite.
1-Unit Play. Take #805 Marist (+11.5) over Fairfield (7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8)
1-Unit Play. Take #812 Samford (+5.5) over Wofford (7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8)
I just don't think that Wofford is as good as they have played. They also play slow and are more of a defensive team than an offensively explosive one. After back-to-back big games against East Tennessee State and UNC-Greensboro I think that they could have a letdown in this game. Samford is better than it has played. I think that they will step up their game here and bring this one down to the wire.
2-Unit Play. Take #815 Kansas (-4.5) over Iowa State (8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8)
Normally this would be an extremely difficult game for the Jayhawks. They never play well in Ames. To be fair, it is one of the toughest venues in college basketball to get a win. The problem is that the Cyclones aren't that good this year. They have no bench and their starting five lacks the top-end talent that they've had in past seasons. I'm sure Iowa State is going to play over its head tonight. But this is still the same team that lost to Florida A&M and has dumped three of its last four games. Kansas has two losses. They dropped their opener to Duke by two points and lost a road game at Villanova - a game in which they blew a significant lead - by one point. They should be able to absolutely destroy the Cyclones in the paint and this one just doesn't feel like the typical Kansas-goes-to-Iowa-State-and-
loses scenario.
1-Unit Play. Take #823 UCF (+8) over SMU (8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8)
I don't like this Central Florida team in the long term. However, I think that this is a solid spot for them. SMU has played a pathetic schedule this season, and hasn't been all that impressive while doing it. They've lost to the only Top 100 teams they've faced and they have narrow wins over third-tier squads like Vanderbilt, UNLV and Evansville. I don't know that they are set to lay the wood to a Knights team that can defend and boasts good size.
3-Unit Play. Take #825 Seton Hall (+3) over Xavier (8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8)
The wrong team is favored in this game. I know Xavier is 12-3 and that they have a decent home court advantage. But no. They are not better than the Pirates and I think that this is a terrible matchup for the Musketeers. Xavier plays hard and is a big effort team. However, they don't shoot the ball that well and they aren't going to bully this massive Seton Hall frontcourt in the paint. The Pirates are massive on the inside, with three guys taller than 6-10. They also have Myles Powell, and Xavier doesn't have anyone that can match him on the perimeter. The Pirates haven't been great on the road, but I think that this is a good spot and a great matchup for them to get another win.
2-Unit Play. Take #828 Wisconsin (-4.5) over Illinois (9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8)
Wisconsin is actually starting to play like a real college basketball team. They have gotten things going lately and they will take advantage of their massive home court edge to get this one. The Badgers are going to get all the calls in this game against a bigger, stronger, more athletic Illinois team. The Illini have not been very good away from home and they haven't been consistent at all. I think they will come back to earth after their blowout win over Purdue and Wisconsin should pick up another home W.
1-Unit Play. Take #832 Georgia Tech (+12) over Duke (9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8)
Duke has obviously gotten things going. They've figured some things out offensively and they have won four straight games by 20+. However, they've played a soft schedule and have played the bottom tier of the ACC to this point. Tech isn't anything to write home about. However, they are coming off a blowout win over North Carolina on the road. And they were a lot closer to Florida State (on the road) than that 70-58 final suggests. Tech is an excellent defensive team and I think they can keep this one competitive.
5-Unit Play. Take #836 Boise State (-6) over UNLV (9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8)
UNLV has won four straight games. But all four have been at home and all four have come against sagging competition. Boise State has a solid home court advantage and they are a different team on their home court. They've won four of five, but are coming off an ugly road blowout at Nevada, losing 83-66. Boise State got swept by the Rebels last year so they have some pent up revenge. Prior to that the Broncos had won seven of eight against the Rebels. UNLV is just 15-33 ATS in its last 48 road games. Boise State is 7-2 ATS as a favorite and 6-2 ATS in its last eight home games. The Broncos are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 and I like them to get it here.
2-Unit Play. Take #839 Vanderbilt (+14.5) over Auburn (9 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8)
Auburn came to play and was able to pull away from Mississippi State last weekend. But I don't know that they are going to have the same level of focus and motivation for this game. Vanderbilt stinks. But they have some guys that can make some shots and they play hard. I think they can make this number hold up.
1-Unit Play. Take #846 San Jose State (+10) over Nevada (10 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8)
I don't think that Nevada should be favored by this much on the road against anyone in the Mountain West. This team isn't as bad as I thought they were going to be. But they are still far from a powerhouse. Nevada is coming off a blowout win over Boise State and they have a date at Utah State this weekend. I think that they will be looking past the Spartans in this game and the reverse line movement on this game is a bit of a red flat. I'll take the points.

Analysis:
I'm playing on Toronto/Charlotte OVER the total. Off a low-scoring loss against Portland last night, the Raptors have now seen five of their last six games fall below the total. I successfully played on the 'over' in the lone one of those which topped the number and I believe this will prove to be another excellent spot to do so. The recent low-scoring results have worked in our favor by providing us with quite a lo~w O/U number, the lowest on the Wed. NBA board. This season's earlier meeting had an O/U line of 214 and finished with 228. The previous three meetings between these teams finished with 224, 229 and 233 points. Unlike Toronto, the Hornets have been primarily involved in high-scoring games lately. Their last three all finished above the total, producing combined scores of 219, 243 and 215. Six of their last eight have finished above the number. On the season, games here are averaging 218.5 points. The last time that the champs played a road game, after having played the previous day, the O/U line was 208 and their game (at Indiana) finished with 235. Look for this one to also prove higher-scoring than many will be expecting.

Analysis:
I'm playing on DAVIDSON. Both these teams are seeking their first conference win. The Rams may be the favorite but I firmly believe that the Wildcats are the superior team. Keep in mind that Davidson essentially returned everyone from last year's team. That same team handled Rhode Island with relative ease. The Wildcats beat the Rams by 15, at Davidson. Then, they beat them by nine, here at Rhode Island. Yes, Davidson has dealt with some injury issues but it has also played an extremely tough schedule. Off b2b losses, like their hosts, the Cats are going to be highly motivated. Note that Davidson is perfect (2-0 SU/ATS) the past couple of seasons, when coming off b2b road losses. Over the years, Davidson is a dominant 46-16 SU when off a conference road loss. As for the Rams, they're just 2-6 ATS in the favorite role this season. They were~ favored in each of their last two games and lost both outright. While I'm happy to grab the points, I expect an outright win for the visitors.

This Texas offense has really struggled. They are ranked No. 287 in the country in scoring with just 67.1. Texas has actually scored fewer than 50 points in two of their last three games and I think that they will struggle again here. Oklahoma is No. 67 in the country in field goal defense and they should be able to slow this game down and make Texas work for their points. The Longhorns have been excellent on defense. They are allowing just 60.7 points per game and they are holding opponents below 40 percent shooting from the field. Both teams have gone 'under' in two of their last three games and the 'under' is 4-1 in Texas' last five games after a loss. I don't think that either team is going to score over 70 points in this game. And I don't see this total getting over 130 total points. Take the 'under' here.

The Raptors are as short on the bench as any team in the Association, and the eye-test in last nights meltdown makes tonight's contest against the Hornets is a handoff victory from Toronto to Charlotte.
Since the Raptors suffered a handful of critical injuires to Powell and company they are 0-3 against the number in trhe second leg of back-to-backs. And while they are 1-2 straight up all three were struggles to find the bottom of the net and prvent the opposition from easy layups.
This is one of the games in-the late first half of the regular season slate that should be no-brainers -- or better phrased -- don't think so much and trake your self out of a winner. Hornets win on their home floor ad dogs. However the Hornets win by double-digits.

The public still find the Irish as a middling ACC squad in the basketball container. John Mooney is one of the best +/- players in all of college hoops. If there is a tick for Notre Dame it is their non-con slate, one of the lowest in Division 1 according to KenPom (324th ranked schedule in the nation).
The truth is that if you look at KenPom's underlying peripherals in relation to the Irish you will find nothing, save their adjusted defensive lines, that will initially be impressive.

The defense has been key for the Wolfpack and the success they have had on their home floor. But this is easily the most deceptive number the Pack wear on their sleeve. They have not faced a team at home that challenged them to be better, to get better, and according to KenPom their national ranking as a effective defense squad says everything bur (218th in points allowed at 70.6 ppg).

NC State has surrendered just 65.2 ppg at home so far, compared to allowing 80.4 ppg on the road. But only two of their nine home games have been against teams from a Power Six Conference while three of their five road games have been against such teams.

Notre Dane is coming off a confidence-building road win over the Syracuse Orange in a game where their offense got going. The defense has been solid for Notre Dame and while the feeling from my ACC Insider is that NC State will again be without their top scorer, CJ Bryce.

NC State, over the last two games, defeated Appalachian State but lost to Clemson, without Bryce and make no mistake this Irish group is much more capable than Ap State or Clemson on any given night.

Pacers are 14-5 ATS in the first half...are solid at home already and with Winslow back on the other side with the Heat on the road not quite looking they have throughout this season... I think incorporating Justise into the lineup takes a few quarters to get the hang of...Oladipo just announced an official date and the roster as currently constituted knows they have 3 more weeks to hold off the water in the boat...I think that gives them a little extra motivation especialy early tonight!

Raptors in a terrible spot here...not only on a B2B plus travel, but they screwed the pooch late last night after leading the whole game then losing it in the 4th quarter to the road weary Blazers at the hands of turn back the clock Melo and a last second game winner! Same injuries as last night, although it might be even more serious on a back to back where they gave it their EVERY effort last night at home.
Terrible spot and of course those who aren't new to me know I don't need a TON of extra incentive to back Devonte and Borrego and Co. with the constant VALUE they present night in and night out!

Raptors on the road on a back to back and the ONLY thing they have going for them tonight is the defense...and the Hornets are a solid side for that aspect as well....thank god for NBA 2020 and the state of the game...because this is a total that screams sub-200 more than any Vegas total I've seen in a while....and damn straight if this were pre-GSW this would be Vegas hanging a 195 on this bad boy!

Like buttah....Hawks at home in the 1H are 13-4 to the Under...and they are usually huge...this one is as well...but with Collins in the lineup as well as Huerter and only really missing Jabari I think the Hawks give the kind of effort for Pierce they have been showing of late....hold your nose and hope no Russ helps as well....probably wouldn't go ALL the way to the full game Under...but first half feels almost too easy!

Jazz:
- healthy
- home and have won 5 in a row including sweeping a 3 game road trip....which also isn't that bad of a trip to worry about a lag back home
- don't face a team that has the ability to score....even with Randle they couldn't muster 90 points!

This number is a bargain...I might lay 20 here...and really I am banking on the Jazz caring...but with the recent form I highly doubt a team like the Jazz has the locker room "ability" to get complacent...they will be fighting tooth and nail for the playoffs this season...and especially for a home series...and games like this cannot be taken for granted...as they are not the Lakers or Clippers

The Bucks have failed to cover in their last three games. This is one of the few times this season that they are at a decent spot in the market. Putting this matchup in perspective, Milwaukee is the second-best team in the league in scoring and field-goal percentage as it faces a Warriors team that has won nine games and is second-to-last in field-goal percentage. The Bucks will come out absolutely firing in this one and it could get out of hand early. I wouldn't be surprised if Milwaukee is covering by halftime.
