My selection is on Winnipeg +1.5 goals over Washington at 7:05 pm et on Tuesday.
This is a fine bounce-back spot for the Jets off a miserable 0-2 weekend with stops in Philadelphia and Buffalo. Meanwhile, the Capitals are in a letdown spot here off of Sunday's big home win over the rival Penguins. Note that the Jets have gone 22-11 when coming off a road loss over the last two seasons, outscoring opponents by 1.2 goals per game on average. They're 10-4 after scoring a goal or less in their previous game this season, outscoring opponents by 1.7 goals per contest. The Jets are fighting for their playoff lives right now and I expect them to come up with an inspired effort on Tuesday night in Washington. Take Winnipeg +1.5 goals (8*).

The set-up: Montreal has broken a five-game losing streak by posting back-to-back wins. First it was a come-from-behind 4-3 OT win at Washington, followed by a complete 3-0 shutdown victory at Ottawa. The Habs beat the Canucks 3-1 in Vancouver back on December 17th and I believe a similar final combined outcome is in the cards here as well. Vancouver has been all over the map with its recent performance of late, but after a 9-3 home blowout win over the Bruins, it's hard to imagine the Canucks duplicating that offensive outburst in the first game of this tough Eastern swing, which includes upcoming games at Toronto and Columbus. In my books, from a situational stand point I believe this one sets up as more of a defensive affair, than a wide-open shootout.
The pick: Additionally note that Vancouver has seen the total go under the number in eight of its last ten after scoring seven or more goals in its previous outing, while Montreal has seen the total dip under in five of its last seven home games after shutting out its opponent in a victory in its previous game. For all the reasons listed above, consider the "under" in this one.

NCAA Basketball Tuesday's Tip Sheet for Big Ten and Mountain West matchups - Iowa at Michigan State

This Tuesday night’s college basketball betting board features a pair of matchups in the Big 10 and the Mountain West.

As one of the early games on the board, the No. 18 Iowa Hawkeyes will be on the road against the Michigan State Spartans. Closing out the night’s betting action, the Colorado State Rams will be in San Diego to face the No. 4 San Diego State Aztecs coming off their first straight-up loss of the year.

Betting Matchup

Iowa is 10-6 SU in Big Ten play and two games in back of Maryland for the regular season title. This is part of a 19-8 record on the year. The Hawkeyes are 3-1 both SU and against the spread over their last four games with last Thursday’s 85-76 victory against Ohio State as two-point home favorites. The total has gone OVER in seven of their last 10 contests.

Luca Garza continues to lead the way for Iowa this season. The junior center is averaging 23.7 points and pulling down 9.6 rebounds a game. He put up 24 points in his last start after scoring 38 in a recent win against Indiana on Feb. 13.

The Spartans beat up on Nebraska 86-65 as 12-point road favorites last Thursday but this was just their second SU win in the last six games. It was also the first time they covered in those six games. The total went OVER 150 points against Nebraska after staying UNDER or ending as a PUSH in 10 of their previous 11 games. Michigan State is 18-9 SU (12-15 ATS) overall with a 10-6 record in conference play.

Cassius Winston had 23 points in last Thursday’s win. The senior guard has led the way all season with 18.3 points per game.

Betting Matchup

Since a late-January loss to Utah State, the Rams have gone 5-2 SU in their last seven Mountain West games. They got past San Jose State 78-71 on Saturday as heavy 16-point home favorites. This dropped their record to 2-6 ATS going back to the loss to Utah State. The total has stayed UNDER in their last two games after going OVER in their previous five contests. Colorado State is 10-6 SU in conference play as part of its 19-10 (13-15 ATS) record on the year.

Adam Thistlewood scored 16 points in Saturday’s win with Nico Carvacho posting a double-double (10 points and 12 rebounds) to help pace the winning effort.

The longest SU winning streak in the nation came to an end on Saturday with the Aztecs coming up just short in a 66-63 loss to UNLV as 14 ½-point home favorites. They did win their first 26 games SU while going 17-9 ATS overall. The total has stayed UNDER in their last three contests after going OVER in their previous five games. San Diego State is averaging 75.4 PPG with four different players averaging at least 10 points a game. The defense ranks fourth in the nation in points allowed (58.5).

The price, post, and race flow all look right on the 2, who seemingly gets all the best of it here, yet will offer plenty of value, so give him a look in all the slots, and especially in the exotics as well, since he's got every chance to turn the tables on his two main rivals.

Despite their recent offensive struggles, the Pacers are still 10.5-point home favorites against the Hornets. The Pacers have been held under 100 in two straight contests shot just 32 percent from the floor in their most recent game. The Hornets have had struggles of their own, being held to 100 points or fewer in six of their last seven games.

With Jeremy Lamb out for the season with a torn ACL, look for the Pacers offensive struggles to become a permanent issue moving forward. Take Charlotte to keep things close and cover the 10.5-point spread in what projects to be a very low scoring game.


MILWAUKEE BUCKS AT TORONTO RAPTORS

The Bucks put their 23-5 road record on the line as they take on the Raptors who have been dominant at home this season winning 23 of their first 30 contests. Milwaukee has won 17 of its last 19 games and takes on a Toronto side that has won 17 of its previous 18.

We’ve been on EMU each of their last 2 games, one an ATS win and one an ATS loss. As we’ve said in each of our last 2 write ups regarding Eastern Michigan, this team is peaking right now. Even in their 64-55 loss on Saturday, it looked for much of the game they would win outright @ Ball State as they held an 11 point lead at half and led for much of the 2nd half. The Eagles (+6 @ Ball State) still held that 11 point lead with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game. However, they were outscored by 20 points over the final 9:00 minutes giving Ball State the 9 point win which was their largest lead of the game. Now we’re getting the Eagles back at home as a small favorite, in a revenge game, coming off that disappointing ending on Saturday. We expect they’ll play very well. EMU has one of the top defenses in the MAC (2nd in defensive efficiency) and they are facing a NIU team that simply doesn’t shoot the ball well (12th in the MAC in eFG%). The first meeting between these 2 was in the middle of EMU’s 0-7 start to conference play. The Eagles (+5) took NIU to the wire losing 71-68. Now we get Eastern at home and playing much better than they were at that time as they’ve won 5 of their last 7 with their only losses @ Akron by 1 (best team in the MAC) and @ Ball State by 9 (EMU led by double digits in 2nd half). This is not a great match up for Northern Illinois. As we mentioned they struggle on offense, especially away from home, where they average only 64 PPG. They are facing a very good Eastern Michigan defense that is allowing 58 PPG at home. NIU fouls a lot and Eastern gets to the line more than any other team in the MAC. NIU defends the 3 very well but they aren’t nearly as good defending inside the arc. EMU doesn’t shoot a lot of 3’s and scores the majority of their points inside the arc. The Eagles have topped the Huskies 10 straight times here at home and they make it 11 on Tuesday.

I'll take my chances here with the Aggies covering as a 6.5-point home dog against the Wildcats. We knew there was going to be some struggles in year one for new Texas A&M head coach Buzz Williams, especially out of the gate. We also knew that this was likely going to be a team that improved as the season went along.
They really remind me a lot of UCLA, who experienced a similar slow start under Mick Cronin and have now won 5 in a row and 7 of 8 to move within 1-game of the lead in the Pac-12. Aggies have won and covered each of their last 3. They beat Georgia as a home dog, went on the road and won at Alabama as a double-digit dog and most recently took down a good Miss State team by 12 at home.
This is their only shot in the regular-season against the Wildcats, making what was already going to be a huge home game that much bigger. It's going to be electric at Reed Arena.
As for Kentucky, they are in a big flat spot. Wildcats had two grueling games last week, winning 79-76 at LSU on Wednesday and then holding on to beat Florida 65-59 on Saturday. With a two game lead now in the SEC, playing on just two days of rest and a big game against Auburn on deck, easy for Kentucky to underperform here. Give me Texas A&M +6.5!

Throughout the course of the season we always have lines that literally make you look multiple times. Well, here is a classic example of a game that doesn't make much sense. Iowa and Sparty are both 10-6 in league play so this game means a lot right now. Iowa has the best player on the court in Garza and Sparty like all the other teams will struggle to stop him. Iowa hasn't been the greatest on the road, but Sparty isn't exactly lighting it up either. Their two recent home games were against Penn St and Maryland with a line very close to this and lost outright in both. I like Iowa to cover this big number tonight.

Both the Boston Celtics and Portland Trail Blazers will be without their floor generals tonight, which makes me like the UNDER. Damian Lillard (29.5 PPG, 7.9 APG) is out with a groin injury while Kemba Walker (21.8 PPG, 5.0 APG) is out with a knee injury.
The Celtics are one of the best defensive teams in the NBA. They rank 3rd in defensive efficiency, only trailing the Bucks and Raptors in that category. They also prefer to play at a slower pace than league average. And I think both teams will be playing at slower than normal paces tonight without their starting point guards.
This has been a very low scoring series over the last few seasons. The Celtics and Blazers have combined for 205 or fewer points in four straight meetings. They have averaged just 195.3 combined points per game in these four games, which is roughly 32 points less than this 227-point total. Bet the UNDER in this game Tuesday.

LA is off a two-point win over the Celtics on Sunday, as LeBron James hit the go-ahead shot with 30.4 seconds left, while Anthony Davis recorded 32 points and 13 rebounds for his sixth straight double-double (has scored at least 25 points in each contest). The win leaves the 43-12 Lakers with a five-game lead over the West's current No. 2 seed, the Denver Nuggets. The 25-32 Pelicans won 115-101 at Golden St on Sunday, as Zion Williamson scored 28 points. He's now scored 20 or more points in EIGHT straight games. The Pelicans have a tough road ahead of them, as they are three games back of the West's final playoff spot but are among a group of FIVE teams within 4 1/2 games of the eighth-seeded Grizzlies.
The Pels dropped Williamson's first two games but are 7-3 SU &ATS, since. The rookie is averaging 22.8 & 7.2 in 12 games, connecting on 58.5% overall, including 41.7% on threes. Williamson is the 'face' of the franchise but the A.D. trade with LA brought the Pelicans SF Ingram (324.3-6.3-4.3), PG Ball (11.8-6.0-6.8) and SG Hart (10.6 & 6.6). That's a pretty good 'haul.' Guard Jrue Holiday (19.4-4.7-6.8) was already an established All Star and FA Redick has done what was expected, averaging 15.4 PPG while shooting 45.2% on threes. The Pels also have big men Favors (9.3 & 10.0) and Hayes (7.7 & 4.1) plus guard Moore (9.3).
The Lakers "got their man" in A.D. (26.8 & 9.4) and along with LBJ (25.2-7.7-10.7) give LA a "Dynamic Duo" but only Kuzma (12.5 & 4.4) joins them in double digits. The Lakers are 2-0 against the Pelicans this season, with Davis dominating his ex-teammates. He scored 41 points (nine rebounds) in a 114-110 win in New Orleans on Nov 27 and then had 46 & 13 in a 1234-113 win in LA on Jan 3. Los Angeles officially signed Markieff Morris and waived injured C DeMarcus Cousins, which could give them another double-digit scorer.
Zion did not paly in either of the first two meetings with the Lakers and will surely be ready for the challenge here at Staples Center. What a showcase opportunity it is, playing in LA on TNT. "He isn't your typical 19-year-old," New Orleans head coach Alvin Gentry said after the win over Golden State about Zion. "He's a very mature kid, very respectful of his teammates and they are very respectful of him as well. He is all about winning. Just winning." The three ex-Lakers should also be primed for the contest and I'm taking the points (Lakers are just 14-12-1 ATS at home).
