Despite another blowout loss, the Guardians appeared to take a step forward offensively last week, outgaining their opponent in yards both cumulatively and on a per-play basis. The problem was executing on third downs, where they're last in the XFL by a wide margin. But now they return home and get to face an L.A. team that was just an eight-point home underdog before routing a DC Defenders squad on a cross-country trip. Considering the travel, and the Guardians' improvements, I believe the home team can cover the number here.

St. Louis looks like it's going to be a tough place to play, as the crowd noise in the dome can derail an offense. But this number is just too big for me to take the BattleHawks again. The Dragons have looked better than the Guardians, who were smaller underdogs coming into last week's game in St. Louis, and Seattle sports the best tackle-for-loss percentage on defense, a key advantage against a BattleHawks team that runs the ball way more than any other team. With the BattleHawks also struggling on point-after tries (11.1 percent success rate ranks worst in the XFL), this will be a tough spread to cover for the home team.

Analysis:
I'm not a firm believer in the Arizona Wildcats. We faded them last game out when they took on the USC Trojans and cashed the ticket. I do not expect their stay in Los Angeles to improve here Saturday night. The Wildcats are starting to leak oil down the stretch and now they face the surging Bruins who are on top of their game and playing with confidence and swagger. UCLA has bought into what Mick Cronin is selling and it is paying off in spades. They are approaching the upcoming Pac 12 tourney with high hopes and expectations and frankly they are realistic as nobody has a choke hold on this league. They have now prevailed in a stellar ten of their last twelve games and will be taking the floor Saturday night getting points at home. As I have stated countless times one of the biggest traps bettors fall into is paralysis of analysis. The Wildcats have a pair of league games coming up afterwards against the Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars and likely will rebound. Well, I say they will have to. I say the wrong team is favored here Saturday night. But to play it safe· take the points. Nothing much about this game says the Wildcats are the right side to me. I am going Triple Star game of the year on the Bruins to stay hot and defend the home court.

Going against a Jay Wright coached Nova team on the road is a cardinal sin, but this Providence team does have talent and it’s just a matter of Ed Cooley being able to motivate his players enough. Collin Gillespie is a game time decision with a thigh bruise. This would be a pretty big loss for Nova and even if he plays he might not be at 100%. Nova lost a lot of talent from last year and I think Providence has a little bit of value here. This is one of the most experienced teams in the country. The Friars might indeed do everything they can to lose this game, but 7 points is generous. Take Providence.

Valpo will be without guard Javon Freeman-Liberty due to mono and Nick Robinson is iffy with a back injury. Indiana State is the deeper and more talented roster who shoots the ball better. The Sycamores have a lot of veteran leadership and will be looking for payback after dropping the first contest on the road. This team protects the ball so well which makes them even tougher to beat at home. Take Indiana State.

Auburn is an experience veteran team that is lead by a future hall of fame coach in Bruce Pearl. The senior leadership won’t back down on the road. The Tigers already showed they are capable of beating this team. Kentucky is well coached and has great athletes, but they still are young and as each day passes the work load for some of the younger guys is something they never experienced at the high school level. Auburn has struggled at times this month, but with a healthy Isaac Okoro back should make this game very interesting as the dog. This is a game in which toughness really comes into play. The Tigers are as tough as they come. Take Auburn.

I'm really just sick of this Valparaiso team. These guys stink. And they have been out over their skis over the last few weeks while winning four of five. This team has been shooting at a completely unsustainable rate, and regression should take hold sooner rather than later. Valpo is coming off a peak effort on Senior Night and now I think that they are going to come back down to earth in their final road game. This team is clearly looking ahead to next week's conference tournament and this is a throwaway game for them. Indiana State has won three straight and they have some mojo. They are also a really, really good home team. Valpo could be down two starters in this game (their best player missed last game with mono; he is questionable) and I just don't see how they will be nearly as motivated as Indiana State here.

I've been saying all season long that I think Seton Hall is the best team in the Big East. I think they will prove it here by winning in one of the toughest venues in the league. I know Marquette has Markus Howard. But Seton Hall has Myles Powell, and I think he is just as good - if not better - than Howard. Seton Hall has an advantage in the frontcourt and I think they defend a bit better. I'll take the points.

This is a mammoth letdown spot for Wake Forest after their incredible win over Duke. I don't think that these guys are going to have anything left in the tank. The Deacons also play rivals North Carolina and N.C. State on deck, so I think they are caught in a little letdown/look ahead spot here. Notre Dame has quietly been playing very well over the last month and has won seven of nine. I think they will pick up another win here.

1-Unit Play. Take #684 VCU (-13) over George Washington (4 p.m.)
I think VCU is due. This line is conspicuously high for a team that has lost five straight and choked away a game to UMASS the last time out. I'm going to follow that shady number. George Washington almost took out Richmond its last time out and I think they will take a step back. This is not a good Colonels team and they have gotten rolled on the road against good teams. I think VCU finds a way to circle the wagons and get a blowout here.

1-Unit Play. Take #685 Northern Illinois (-1.5) over Western Michigan (4:30 p.m.)
NIU has Eugene German and you don't. That's basically how they are winning games in the MAC right now and this team has played itself to the top of the West. They deserve it. This is a solid team and they have won eight of 10. I think that the Huskies are riding high after their thrilling win at Eastern Michigan and I think that they can fend of just an awful Western Michigan team that is going nowhere fast.

3-Unit Play. Take #688 Illinois-Chicago (-3) over Oakland (4 p.m.)
I'm just going to keep riding Illinois-Chicago. This team is still undervalued. They have been playing really well over the last month and they have won nine of 12. They are one of the more talented teams in the Horizon and I think they will close out their final home game with a win. Their best three players are all seniors so these guys will be ready to go. Oakland is a mess this year and they have been horrible on the road. They are coming off a loss to a pathetic IUPUI team and I think that they will flop again here versus a more motivated opponent.

2-Unit Play. Take #706 Maryland (-2.5) over Michigan State (8 p.m.)
Michigan State just isn't that good. They really aren't. They are young and they don't have enough shooters. They certainly aren't going to push Maryland around in the paint and I don't think they have enough guys to make tough shots. Maryland is outstanding at home. They fluked out a win at Minnesota earlier this week and they were clearly looking ahead to this game. The are going to be ready to go tonight though and I'm looking for a peak effort.

1-Unit Play. Take #732 Duquesne (-8.5) over George Mason (7 p.m.)
George Mason stinks. They have been playing above their heads a bit lately, upsetting VCU on the road and hanging around with Dayton their last time out. I think they are in a letdown spot after taking a big swing and miss at the Flyers. Duquesne can be sneaky good in their own gym, and they have taken out teams like St. Louis and Davidson here. I just don't think that Mason is fully focused for this game and I think it will show.

I'm really pissed at myself for not playing Dartmouth yesterday. I really liked them in Cornell. I think that they will get a rare road sweep. This team is undervalued and they are playing well right now. They have won four of five and they are just better than Columbia. The Lions lost way too much talent from last year's team and they are just 6-21 on the season. It has been ugly and they are on a 10-game losing streak. I don't think they will snap it here.

Northridge has Lamine Diane and you don't. Diane is a future NBA player, and you don't find that in the Big West every year. The rest of this team stinks. But he is good enough to carry the load. Take Boston ATS as my top NBA pick for Saturday night. This pick falls into one of my top NBA systems and I have Boston winning this game in a big way here at home Saturday night. I did give you the Boston Celtics to win the NBA championship at odds of +1500 in a recent YouTube video and I also gave you Boston over 48.5 wins before the start of the season as my top rated 8-Unit Play. I know this Celtics team extremely well and this is a big revenge spot for them here tonight after losing at Houston* back on February 11. Now we can tear that game apart and see that Boston held Houston to shooting just 42.9% and 28.9% from beyond the arc. Houston however made it to the line 42 times knocking down 37 shots from the line which gave them the 11-point victory and that will not happen here tonight. Boston is hands-down the superior team defensively and I look for them to step up at home here where they have dominated teams all season with a 23-5 record at home. Boston has averaged 122.4 points per game over their last 5 games while shooting 47.3% as a team and 4 of those 5 games were without Walker in the lineup who is due back Tuesday night. Boston is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games when playing a team that has a win rate above .600. Houston has allowed 116.8 points per game on the road this season with opponents shooting 48.1% against them and they will not get the calls tonight in Boston like they got at home back on February 11 which sent them to the line 42 times and was the difference in the game. Walker had just 14 points in that 11-point loss at Houston with a plus/minus of -24 so not having him in the lineup will not be at a factor here tonight. Boston has held opponents to just 106.5 points per game this season and they have shot 38.3% as a team from beyond the arc at home this season and 81.7% as a team from the line. So, play Boston ATS as my dominating winning NBA season continues. Also make sure that you get on my top NHL pick that goes Saturday night as I expect another easy winner on the ice.

The constant that comesinto play in April, for teams not in touch with the NBA postseason bracket, isthe when they will begin tanking. The Association lottery is a different animalnow that the weight of where you are in the season ending standings matter morethan it used to.

The change was initiated last summer, the 2019 draft. The league changed the lottery odds (the bottom threeteams have an equal 14%chance of winning the top pick) and increased the number of teams selected inthe lottery from threeto four. The NBA Board of Governors approved changes to the lotterysystem on Sept. 28, 2017 that will be implemented for the 2019 NBA Draft. Under the revamped format, the NBA DraftLottery will ensure that the team with the worst record will receive no worsethan the fifth pick. Under the pre-2019 system, the team with the worstrecord would pick no lower than fourth.

The new system will level the odds at the top of the NBA DraftLottery so that the teams with the three worst regular-season records will eachhave a 14 percent chance of winning the lottery. In the pre-2019structure, the top seed had a 25 percent of winning the lottery, thesecond seed had a 19.9 percent and the third seed had a 15.6 percent.As a result of such the who and the when are mission critical in accessing thefinal two-to-three weeks of the regular season. Knowing who is and isn't tanking isn't a science and isn't something that team's coaching staff or players willadmit to. Thing is, it becomes obvious if you know what to look for. And once ateam makes it obvious and they face a situation that offers value without the tank... then an investment on said team is a high probability with me.

Mike Miller has directed the Knicks to a13-20mark during his interim-ship. This is a difficult situation for the Bulls. Theyare in MSG, in a game they will actually be expected to compete in. And thisequation is much different than facing the Bucks, Heat or Boston in which theyare double-digit dogs

The Knicks are healthier and playing within aMiller scheme with cohesiveness. And this alone gives them a better chance thannot to earn a "Dub" at home against a similar talent pool.

Expect the Knicks to score, play at more tempo than they do against superior talent and teams, and both teams to combine to exceed the oddsmakers total without breaking a sweat.

Unless you are much like me and you not only watch edited tape of those games of interest and read the box scores the next morning to get not just a trip-capping feel for a game but how the surface numbers are almost always deceiving, because they don't represent the game you watched, then it is unlikely you saw how the Wildcats were defeated on their home from 65-52 by a pedestrian Bruins team that doesn't fit their head coach's style of play.

Arizona had its worst shooting game of the season. More accurate they struggled through a 40 minute league tilt in what resulted in the worst shooting game in the history of McKale Center. Arizona shot just 25.4% from the field in a 65-52 loss to UCLA; made just 3 of 19 two-pointers in the first half and then missed all 12 3s they took in the second half.

Nico Mannion was 2 for 14 overall (1 for 5 from 3-point range) and Josh Green was 3 for 11.

Since that road win for the Bruins this UCLA troupe has won five straight. The latest "Dub" over ASU on Thursday came on a last-second 3 from Jaquez. Having gone 7-6 in nonconference play, then 1-3 to start the Pac-12, the Bruins are posing, but doing so as imposters, as a team that has finally clicked in first-year head coach Mick Cronin’s system.

if you believe and are buying this used car salesman pitch I know a guy who knows a guy who has some land in South Florida for sale at a cozy spot with a view of the Gulf of Mexico called the Everglades.

The Bruins are more likely to commit more fouls than have assists and have done nothing more than grow for a new coach in his first year.

My Insider from the Arizona Valley reported this morning that this Arizona squad has don't nothing but work against a matchup zone and man-to-man defensive scheme until they smoothly transition into their offensive sets against both. And work on one of their strengths, attacking the offensive glass with reckless abandon.

The scouting report I received before the first meet by these two this year that took place at Mac:

“Tony here is your requested report on the Bruins seemingly schizoid defensive scheme; matchup zone mixed in with their man. This because Cronin doesn't like the personnel in his man-to-man scheme. They’ll switch ball screens some. They do a great job of walling up with their bigs — Jalen Hill, Cody Riley, those guys do a great job of not fouling. Cronin hangs his hat on defending, both the paint and the glass, and this Bruins troupe has done what was asked of them versus lesser talent. They make it difficult for the opposition to score down low but they are vulnerable to other good offensive rebounding squads. UCLA ranks first in the Pac in offensive rebounding. Guess who ranks second... yep... Arizona. “

The Bruins’ redshirt freshman point guard did everything right in the first matchup between these two squads and I suggest that you pay little attention to what Nico Mannion wasn't able to do in that first game between U of A and UCLA at McKale. The game was an aberration.

Expect to see the small No #3, Lee, start while showing off his versatility taking the defensive assignments of Smith or Jaquez

The Wildcats are easily the best travelers of any of the Pac-12. There will be 4000 plus U of A fans at Pauley tonight taking away the home court color and noise.

Bruins drew 9.626 fans into 13,800-seat Pauley Pavilion on Thursday for ASU, despite an 8 p.m. weeknight tipoff, and had about only 700 seats remaining for the Arizona-UCLA game as of Friday afternoon.

Arizona’s offensive rebounding percentage in Pac-12 games, the second-highest in the conference and this neutralizes the one variable that has fed the recent run of the Bruins. This being their offensive rebounds and easy second chance points.

If you examine the records of these two Pac-12 teams, the records of both and the results of the first game between the two you could expect a weekend warrior to queston why the Wildcats are favored. Thye are favored here because they are the better team and if the oddsmakers didn't set this game at the current number sharp money would have attacked it without mercy

We are rolling with the over here. The Predators will get up for this game and come off a big win at home against Calgary where they tied the game with .2 seconds left to force OT, which they won. Their offense has been clicking as of late but still continue to struggle in goal. Not they face the leagues #3 offense in the Avalanche. The Avalanche are playing in the 2nd game of a B2B with travel, so as the game wears on in this division matchup I expect they will start to feel it here. The Avalanche typically havent done well in this spot on 0 days rest going 40-82 in their last 122 games playing on 0 days rest. I think the issue here is with Grubauer out they have been relying on Francouz heavily and he has started 6 straight games. With this being a back to back I think they likely go with newly acquired Hutchison who they got from the Leafs at the deadline. Hutchison struggled and probably shouldnt even be in the NHL at this point. Regardless of who is in goal, both teams will get up to face each other, and both offenses are capable of putting up goals. I think this total is too low and this one sails over the total. Over is 15-6-1 in the last 22 meetings in Nashville. Over is 5-1 in Predators last 6 vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
