The Nuggets completed a clunky two-game road trip by edging the Hornets, 114-112, followed by a 104-102 loss at Cleveland on Saturday. Denver closed as 9 ½-point favorites in each game, as the Nuggets also failed to cash in a 116-100 home loss to Golden State last Wednesday as hefty 16-point chalk.

This is the beginning of a tough stretch for Denver, who plays seven of the next eight games on the road following Monday’s contest against Milwaukee. Among the opponents during this span include the Mavericks, Lakers, Clippers, Thunder, and Raptors.

Milwaukee pulled off the two-game sweep of Denver last season, but the Nuggets shocked the Bucks at Fiserv Forum as 12 ½-point underdogs on January 31 in a 127-115 win. T.M. Selection: Edmonton Oilers (1* FREE PLAY).
Edmonton lost 3-0 in Vegas back in December and now it catches the Knights off a satisfying 5-3 win in Calgary just last night. The double-header in Alberta is a tough task for any team and I think the Knights are going to predictably stumble here. Las Vegas has struggled in this spot for bettors as well all season by going just 10-12 (-9.1 units) after a win by two goals or more. Conversely, this is a position in which the Oilers have excelled in by going 22-15 (+9.9 units) in trying to revenge a loss vs. an opponent. Off a 4-1 win over Columbus, I expect the home side to build off that performance and to take full advantage of this great situation. Consider Edmonton on Monday night!

Al Cimaglia: March 9-Mohawk Park Early Pick 5 Analysis March 9, 2020 | By Al Cimaglia
The Early 0.20 Pick 5 with a $75,000 guaranteed pool kicks-off the card at Woodbine Mohawk Park this evening. That competitive sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 1

4-Dunbar Hall (5/2)-Was put away in early Nov. after having breaking issues and came back last week with a good effort versus better. Makes 2nd start on Lasix, should be the best here with a decent trip and if minds manners.
6-Super Schissel (9/2)-Drops down to a more comfortable spot but will need a top effort. The 1-13 record at Wbsb isn't great but deserves some respect versus this crew.
7-Exemplar (8-1)-Looking for a decent price in 3rd start off the bench for Moreau and Filion did stick. Could be sitting on a big try and 10-year old knows his way to the winner's circle.

Race 2

4-Dreamfair B J (2-1)-Makes 1st start for the Cullen barn and drops to the basement looking for a win. JMac steers and knows how to work a trip on a slow starter. This looks like a drop and pop situation.
7-Rock This Way (4-1)-Didn't show much vigor in last start but Filion returns tonight for hot barn. This is another who drops to a spot to shine.

Race 3

1-Hoya Saxa (9/2)-Decent effort from the 2nd tier in last and should be in the mix despite an 0-10 record at Mohawk. Maybe starting on the rail and a racing on a fast track will help this Kadabra 3-year-old to take 1st picture.
7-TLF Royal Lake (5/2)-Faces easier and McClure picked the #9 so Filion takes a spin. Looks to have some speed and has passed foes down the lane, so best to respect.
9-Tymal Riggs (6-1)-Got off the gate and was almost a city block behind the pack and then made up a lot of ground. McClure is back between the pipes and looking for a more alert start.

Race 4

1-Mister Godro (4-1)-Is only 2 for 24 at Wbsb but won 1st start for new barn. Filion steers again and he knows well. Could benefit from the post draw, should be on top or in the 2-hole and looks like a player.
7-Tomy Terror (9/2)-Was claimed in last like #8, and now makes 1st start for Fellows. Henry steers and he could get on the engine and not look back.
8-Real Wicked (3-1)-Makes 1st start for Moreau and was a winner in last. Should be a threat as long as Roy can find some cover and put in play.

Race 5

6-Charmbo Prince (9/2)-Strong effort in last to notch 2nd LT win and now is back in against a similar crew. Will respect chances for another picture and should be rolling late.
7-Golden Dynamite (3-1)-Has been trying hard but has come up short in last few starts. May benefit from starting outside, likes to grind and brush by down the lane.

MSW dropper didn't take a lot of money or fire on debut, but that was also against eons better on the Poly at TP, so off that, for a Reed barn that never cranks them early anyway, he may wake up here; upset special.


#1 Moonlight Beach
Expected stiff favorite is another who has been facing better out of town for O'Neill, and new trainer Poole is 17% with these types, so off the drop, with proven form, he's going to be a real handful; will take plenty of beating.


#4 Banana Pepper
Capable sort is another who comes from TP, and the MSW run here two-back puts him in the mix, though this 5-2 ML seems a bit light, especially since he was awful last time but has run well on the Poly before; tread lightly.


Race Summary
The price will be right with the 5, as will the drop in class and likely the dirt too, so give him a look in all the slots, and especially the exotics as well, since he's eligible for a wakeup, and, aside from the heavy chalk, there's no one here to fear.

The other chalk was 3rd to the 7 when last seen in January and is another who certainly figures, but he too has no speed, and the rail won't help; runs out of room late.

CATS VALENTINE - This mount hasn't shown much life in the last couple of contests. This gelding hasn't had any positive efforts in sprint races in the last sixty days. Should be difficult for this animal to beat this bunch off of that last speed fig. Doubtful to improve enough to run a figure close enough to today's class figure, so put him on the possibly overvalued equines list. PASSIONATE VICTOR - Today's contest is 5 1/2 furlongs. I'll take my chances here with the Eagles as a 8-point dog against the Golden Flashes in Monday's first round action in the MAC Tournament. Kent State finished with the better record in conference play at 9-9, compared to Eastern Michigan's 6-12 mark, but I see this as a much more even matchup.
Eagles started out MAC play at 0-7, but would go on to win 5 of their next 6 before losing 4 of their last 5. The poor 1-4 finish is a bit of a concern, but 3 of the 4 losses did come on the road and the lone home loss was by just 2 to Northern Illinois, who tied for the top spot in the West Division.
Kent State was sitting at 6-3 in league play before closing out the year 3-6. Injuries played a big part of the struggles for the Golden Flashes down the stretch. They are far from 100% going into this one. Also, one of those 6 losses down the stretch for Kent State was a 49-70 loss at Eastern Michigan.
Eagles are 6-2 ATS last 8 vs a team with a winning record and the Flashes are just 3-9 ATS last 12 as a favorite. Take Eastern Michigan!

Conversely, the Atlanta Hawks are going through one of their worst stretches of the season. They have several key players either questionable or out due to injury, which has contributed to their poor play.
The Hornets are 6-0 ATS in their last six games as underdogs. Charlotte is 22-5 ATS in its last 27 games vs. a team with a winning percentage below 40%. The Hornets are 9-4 ATS in the last 13 meetings. The Hawks are 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 games vs. a team with a winning percentage below 40%. Bet the Hornets Monday.

Elon's run in the CAA Touranment comes to end on Monday against Northeastern. Elon has squeaked by with a 2-point win over James Madison (Sat.) and a 5-point win over William & Mary (Sun.). I just don't see the Phoenix having enough gas in the tank playing their 3rd game in 3 days.
The Huskies got their tournament run started yesterday with a convincing 72-62 win as a mere 3.5-point favorite against Towson. That win and cover continued quite the run for Northeastern in the CAA Tournament. Huskies are now 6-1 SU and 5-1-1 ATS over the last 3 seasons.
Elon did win the most recent meeting at home, but did so by just 5 and that was with the Phoenix shooting 61% from the field (53% from deep) and Northeastern connecting on a mere 38.6% of their attempts.
No way they shoot that good, especially with tired legs. If anything, it's the Huskies offense that should roll. Elon gives up a ton of 3-pointers and is awful at defending the pick and roll. Northeastern excels in both of those areas.
Phoenix are also just 7-20 ATS last 27 neutral site games, 6-21 ATS last 27 off a SU win and 3-11 ATS last 14 as a neutral site dog. Huskies are 8-1-1 ATS last 10 as a neutral site favorite. Take Northeastern!

They only lost 79-83 as 10-point home underdogs and held a 31-22 lead on the road at halftime in the rematch at Gonzaga before falling apart in the second half. The Dons have definitely stepped up their game in the WCC Tournament thus far. They crushed Loyola-Marymount 82-53 after only beating them by 2 points in the regular season finale. And they made easy work of Pacific 72-54 after getting upset at home by Pacific earlier this season in their previous match. I like the fact that they are comfortable with these rims and had yesterday off while Gonzaga will be playing its first game of the tournament. The Dons should be the sharper team especially in the first half. The Dons are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games. The Bulldogs are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games. For Monday’s freebie, we’ll return to the college hardwood and once again back a mid-range favorite, this time rolling with Wright State over Illinois-Chicago in the semifinals of the Horizon League tournament.



Wright State earned a double-bye into the semifinals by virtue of winning the regular-season conference title. As a result, the Raiders have been idle for 10 days, having last played February 28, when they clinched the title by knocking off second-place Northern Kentucky 64-62 as a three-point road underdog.



With that victory, Wright State enters this tournament on an 18-3 run that dates back to a Dec. 12 victory over Mississippi Valley State. Granted, one of those three losses occurred at Illinois-Chicago back on Jan. 12—a 76-72 setback as a 6½-point favorite. But the Raiders avenged that defeat in convincing fashion a month later, throttling the Flames 75-58, easily cashing as an 11½-point home chalk.



I will admit that Illinois-Chicago has been dynamite as a single-digit underdog this year (10-3 ATS). But that impressive stat is offset by this one: Prior to its two-point win at Northern Kentucky, 14 of Wright State’s previous 17 victories (including nine of the last 10) were by seven points or more.



Finally, while both teams are similar defensively—Illinois-Chicago gives up 69.1 ppg on 40.6% shooting and Wright State allows 70.7 ppg on 41.4% shooting—the Raiders have a decided edge at the other end of the court: They average 12.1 points per game more than the Flames (81.4-69.0).


Wright State has been the more consistent team throughout the Horizon League season, and with 10 days of rest, I expect the Raiders to dictate a fast pace, run Illinois-Chicago out of the gym and advance to tomorrow’s title game with a double-digit win.

Laying the point with the top-seed in the Summit League, as North Dakota State will continue its quest to the dance. The Bison have been the class of this league all season, and come in after a scare in the quarterfinals against No. 8 seed Denver.

North Dakota State was led by 22 points from senior Vinnie Shahid and 20 from senior Tyson Ward, while sophomore Sam Griesel finished with a double-double, posting 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. The momentum should shift into a tougher semifinal matchup against Oral Roberts.

The teams split in the regular season, both winning at home.

Overall, North Dakota State has been the better team and has the most stringent defense, something it'll need against a high-powered Eagles.

The Bison defense fuels the offense, so I expect a lot of points in transition, and a dominant game on the boards. By cleaning the offensive glass, watch North Dakota State get plenty of second-chance opportunities.

Easy winner with the No. 1 seed.

My free play is on the BYU Cougars against the Saint Mary's Gaels in the West Coast Conference semifinals in Las Vegas.

I know it's been nine days since the Cougars last played, but they'll come in with plenty of motivation, considering they're the last team to beat Gonzaga, and a potential rematch in the final is deemed winnable.

Top-seeded Gonzaga takes on No. 5 seed San Francisco in the other semifinal tonight.

Let's face it, BYU is a shoo-in for the dance, regardless if they win the rest of this tournament, but seeding and location is very important. If the Cougars win - big tonight - and the rest of the way, they might stay close enough to home they'll draw a decent following.

This matchup carries much more weight than a spot in tomorrow's final, and the Cougars know they need to win this one impressively as the Selection Committee is set to convene.

My comp play for Monday will be to take the points and the visiting Charlotte Hornets as they play in Atlanta tonight against the Hawks.

Charlotte has been a money-maker for their backers as they come into this Monday meeting fresh off a Saturday outright home win over playoff-bound Houston to make it 6 straight against the spread covers and an even 5-5 straight up mark for their last 10 games played!

Atlanta comes in having lost 3 straight and have dropped 5 of their last 7 games straight up. The Hawks are also just 3-5 against the spread this season when listed as the -1 to -4 1/2 point favorites, while the Hornets are 14-10 against the spread in that similar point range of +1 to +4 1/2 points this season.

Charlotte has dominated Atlanta in recent meetings, as they have won 7 of the past 9 series meetings straight up.

With the Hornets on that 6 game spread run, look for the points to work tonight as they bump their ATS run to 7 in a row for their backers.

Utah has also played 2 of their last 3 at home Over the posted total, so chances they combine tonight with Toronto on another Over appear good, especially when you consider that the first meeting between the teams back in December landed well Over the posted total.

That series Over marked the third straight Over played between the teams and put the series Over mark at 7-3 for the last 10 meetings.
