After splitting its first two games of the season, Tulane erupted for 66 points in its destruction of Southern Mississippi last time out. The Cougars are playing their first game of 2020 after having a number of contests postponed or rescheduled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Expect them to be a bit rusty and the Green Wave to keep it close.

The Bears looked awful offensively in losing to the Colts on Sunday but at least got out of that quite healthy. The Bucs, on the other hand, had to rally from 17 down to beat the Chargers and are incredibly banged up. Expected out at a minimum for the quick turnaround are WR Chris Godwin, TE OJ Howard (done for year) and RBs Leonard Fournette and LeSean McCoy. WR Mike Evans is dealing with an ankle injury but likely will tough it out. The Chicago defense is good enough against that depleted unit to keep this game within a field goal at worse.

Just like last season, the Buccaneers' defense is not one to run on. They were No. 1 against the run in 2019 and they’re No. 2 this season, allowing just 64 yards per game. But the Bears don’t know who they are, or what they do well. Every game plan is kind of on the fly with no direction. But this is a spot where I think QB Nick Foles can gash Tampa Bay's secondary, similar to how Chargers rookie Justin Herbert did last week. Home-field advantage is worth barely a point, but the Buccaneers have some WR and TE concerns. Chicago's defense battles. I took the points with the Bears.

I was on the Bears last week and was shocked at how poorly the offense played. With the Bucs bringing a defensive unit into this matchup that ranks second in DVOA to only the Colts, it's hard to see them finding a magical fix in just a few days time. That will leave this game in the hands of Chicago's quality defense, but I don't expect them to completely shut down the Bucs, even if Tampa Bay will be missing several key position players. The key to Tampa Bay's success on offense so far has been the excellent play of the O-line. Play at last week's level again and Tom Brady plus the running game should do enough to get the cover.

With so much uncertainty on who will suit up at the skill positions for the Bucs, I think we're in a great spot to take the Under here. We should already be looking to play Bears Unders with their excellent defense and awful offense to date, and even though their games are 2-2 on the Under this year, they benefited from a bunch of injuries to the Lions secondary in Week 1, which finally allowed them to move the ball in the fourth quarter. Their other Over required another fourth-quarter rally against the Falcons. This Bucs defense is several levels above those two units, so I don't see the opportunity to put up points for Chicago here unless they get some more in-game injury luck.

French Open 2020 semifinal No. 1

The men's singles semifinals at the 2020 French Open are set for Friday at Roland Garros, Paris and the first that's set is Rafael Nadal versus Diego Schwartzman.

And this one could be quite something, with Schwartzman in excellent form at the moment, while Nadal is yet to be really tested this week in conditions that are far from ideal for the King of Clay.

Twitter followers will know that Schwartzman was my +7500 each-way outright bet for this Roland Garros men's singles and so he needs one more win to cash the place part of that bet.

On the face of it, the Argentine has his work cut out if you believe the bookies' prices on this, with Nadal given roughly an 85% chance of winning per the odds.

But that price is much too short in my opinion and seemingly based on previous French Opens that were played in massively different conditions.

In the past, Nadal has had things by and large just how he likes them in Paris in the early summer, with sunshine, dry courts and (crucially) Babolat balls that take a lot more of his heavy topspin than this year's new Wilson ones do.

It was telling pre-tournament that both Nadal and Dominic Thiem, who both use tons of topspin, were bemoaning the loss of the Babolat ball. Thiem, as I said in my outright preview, was always a bit of a long shot to win this week in these conditions, as well as facing a tough draw and also fatigue after an epic US Open win.

Stats have shown that Nadal's ball is some way down from his norm in terms of the height it reaches off the court this fortnight, which was always going to be the case playing on damp courts and with a Wilson ball in cold conditions.

We saw in Rome how Schwartzman was able to get the better of Nadal in such conditions and I see no reason why he can't at least make this a real test for Nadal again.

Obviously it'll be tough to take three sets rather than two off Nadal, but conditions could scarcely be less favorable for Rafa and this looks a fine opportunity for Schwartzman.

Nadal has enjoyed an absolute cakewalk of a draw (yet to face a top-70 ranked opponent), against two mediocre fast court players (Gerasimov and McDonald) who are all at sea on clay, followed by a journeyman clay courter in Travaglia and then young Seb Korda, who seemingly was just there to collect a signed shirt from his idol.

Then 19-year-old Jannik Sinner gave what looks a rather slow Nadal (remember, he hasn't had his usual 15 or so clay matches ahead of the French Open this year and had only played three matches since February before this fortnight) all he could handle and more in their quarterfinal Tuesday.

Sinner served for set one of that clash and with more experience the young Italian may have made a match of that one, but surely Schwartzman won't make that same mistake given the opportunity.

Schwartzman has the confidence of knowing that he can beat Rafa in these conditions now, and having just beaten the current US Open champion and two-time Roland Garros finalist Thiem as well, his mood should be at an all-time high.

One obvious concern is fitness after that epic Thiem encounter, but he's got two days off to recover, while Rafa was playing until after 1am local time on Wednesday morning, which, of course, he wasn't too happy about.

Another possible negative is that this match will be played in the afternoon, rather than in the cold at night, but the forecast is for yet more rain and so conditions will be slow (probably under the roof) and cool.

If we look back at what Schwartzman was doing well in that Rome clash it was hitting his flat, aggressive backhand and taking Nadal's time away, not allowing the Spaniard to set up that huge lefty forehand and get that weapon into play much.

And that weapon of Rafa's is nullified anyway by this Wilson ball and the cool, damp conditions, allowing Schwartzman to defend more effectively, as we saw him able to do against the power of Thiem on Tuesday.

Assuming Schwartzman isn't physically impaired after that epic Thiem clash, this looks a real opportunity for him –perhaps a unique one – and I hope he isn't too nervous to take it.

The bets for me here are Schwartzman to win at +450, Schwartzman to win a set at -120 and the match to go Over 33.5 games at -110.

It doesn't often pay to take on Nadal at Roland Garros, but this isn't a 'normal' French Open and we have to take a chance in these circumstances.

The tough-luck Houston Cougars have yet to play a game 2020, with a total of five games postponed or canceled because of the pandemic. While you might expect them to come out inspired and aggressive, most teams, all of which are using makeshift rosters to varying degrees, have been sloppy in their season debuts. This doesn't bode well against a solid Tulane club that already has played three games and has shown a powerful run offense that racked up more than 400 yards against Southern Miss in its last outing.

I don't know why people would be betting the Bears here. I don't like Nick Foles against that defense. It's kind of a revenge game for Tom Brady, for that Super Bowl loss to Foles when he was with the Eagles. Brady had five touchdown passes last week and he's so comfortable in that offense.

Norway are clashing against Serbia on Thursday for the Euro 2021 Qualifiers. Norway have been in tremendous form lately, with just one loss in their last 11 competitive matches in all competitions (5-1-5). They have only kept three clean sheets in that span, twice against the Faroe Islands and once against Malta. The other eight matches featured goals from both sides and six of those went Over 2.5 Goals.
Serbia have also been in quite a good run lately with just one loss in their last six matches (3-1-2) but are win-less in their last three (0-1-2). They have conceded multiple goals in five of their last seven matches and kept just a single clean sheet in that span. However, they scored multipe goals in five of those matches.
Norway have a really solid team, with a couple of units that can really make a difference (f.e. Dortmund's Halland). Serbia also have a very attacking team and neither of the two is actually good in defense. I am taking the Over 2 Goals without hesitating on this match that can easily feature four or five goals.

Tom Brady is getting better with the Buccaneers every week, having tossed five TDs to five different receivers vs. the Chargers. Tampa Bay will max protect and keep Brady on his feet to find his targets downfield. The Buccaneers defense is fourth in the league, allowing just over 310 total yards per game while Bears are eighth. The short week is always tough on the road team, but no one will be more prepared for this game than Brady and Bruce Arians. Tampa Bay’s defense will be the difference here, forcing Nick Foles into a few turnovers with some sacks. The Bears are 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16 Thursday night games and 1-8 ATS in their last nine following a SU loss.

Analysis: There's the obvious, that Tulane has played three games and Houston hasn't played any, which is I am sure when seemingly everyone likes Tulane. They may be right, but, remember, that a month more practice that Houston has been able to have. With that sa£id, with a new coach and without King there are going to be some Cougar rough spots at least early on. Yes, Tulane hung 66 on Southern Mississippi, but they suck and Tulane also only scored 24 against Navy at home. Last year, and without King, these teams played a 30-18 game with only ten second half points. Last WEEK Tulane RAN for 430 yards, and that's not happening here. Pratt has been named the starter again (for Tulane), he's a Freshman who threw 18 passes against So Miss and completed exactly eight. The bottom line here is that Houston isn't who they have been for years, a machine on offense, and Tulane is seriously over rated - in order to lose an under bet here we need more than 14 points per quarter, and given one team not having played and the other just not being any good, I don't see it and bet as such.

Analysis: New York starter Jordan Montgomery takes the mound with a 5.11 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in ten starts this season but those surface statistics are grossly misleading. Montgomery boasts a 3.87 FIP and a 3.65 xFIP, together with a 9.61 K/9 rate and a 1.84 BB/9 rate (47 strikeouts to only nine walks. The southpaw has suffered from negative variance in the form of a .320 BABIP and a 65.0% LOB%. Montgomery induces soft contact (26.1% Soft%) and finished with a hard-hit rate that ranked in the 88th percentile.
While limited, Montgomery has postseason experience. He made three starts in 2016 for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre, posting a 2.84 ERA that helped his team win the Triple-A National Championship over El Paso. "I know nothing compares to the major leagues, but when we were together in 2016 in the minor leagues and we won the national championship, and I know for a fact his game definitely elevated when it really counted, so I'm expecting some good stuff from Monty," New York catcher Kyle Higashioka said.
New York manager Aaron Boone has stated that "all hands will be on deck" for Game 4, including the possibility that Aroldis Chapman goes two innings. Chapman pitched two scoreless innings against Cleveland in the wild-card round (24 pitches). Zack Britton, who owns a 1.89 ERA and 2.61 FIP, could also see extended work tonight since the Yankees are facing elimination.
Finally, the Yankees apply to a 20-0 situation of mine that dates back to September 19, 2018. With New York standing at 35-16 as a postseason favorite and 4-1 in its previous five Division playoff games, take the Yankees and invest with confidence.

After last weeks performance will anyone want Chicago? This week it’s a different story as Foles has had another week in the system so he should be better and Tampa’s defense has been giving up points and yards. Chargers Rookie QB Justin Herbert threw for 369 yards last week against this Tampa defense. Frankie Montas was 3-5 with a 5.60 ERA in the regular season and he will be making his first career postseason start today. He allowed one run over two relief innings in Game 3 against the White Sox. Montas faced the Astros three times this season and he allowed seven runs in 15.1 IP. Zack Greinke is dealing with arm fatigue, but even if he did start he hasn’t gone deeper than five innings in any of his last four starts. Christian Javier is the most likely option after throwing an inning of relief on Monday. If the Astros don’t win today, they’re pretty much out of pitching so I would expect them to go all in to win today’s game.
