Analysis:

Not being talked about enough is Lamar Jackson's regression as a passer this season. Sure, he is still playing well, but he is not playing at the same level he was at last season. Film guys and even Lamar himself has constantly said that the passing game has not been up to par this season.


Pittsburgh is going to force Baltimore into throwing the ball. The Steelers second ranked run defense in YPC allowed held down Derrick Henry last week, and this Steelers elite defense gave Lamar trouble last year during his MVP season, holding him to 5.8 YPA, 1 touchdown pass, and 3 interceptions. Pittsburgh offensively has far superior weapons then what Baltimore has.


This is a series where historically it's been tough for the winning team to get margin. Pittsburgh is in a double revenge spot from last years sweep, and since Mike Tomlin was hired as the Steelers coach in 2007, the Steelers are 60.5% ATS as a road underdog.



I like Pittsburgh all the way down to 3.5

In season revenge spot for an Atlanta offense has played significantly better with Julio Jones healthy (Julio missed the game against Carolina earlier this season). Matt Ryan is averaging 1.7 more YPA with Julio in the lineup, and Carolina will likely be without LT Russell Okung. Carolina struggles to stop the run, and Matt Ryan is likely to experience a clean pocket against a Panthers defense that is 29th in pressure rate.


Carolina has been an underrated team all season, but I do not trust them to get margin against an Atlanta team as good as anyone at back door covers late in games, and is one late game mistake away from being 2-0 SU since firing HC Dan Quinn.


Green Bay has a fundamental matchup edge against Minnesota, something that I mentioned in our week one play on Green Bay against the Vikings. Aaron Rodgers has feasted on weak defenses this season, throwing for 2 touchdowns and at least 8 YPA against the Vikings, Texans, Falcons, Lions, and Saints defense. The Vikings are 0-3 SU and ATS against the Packers in the last two years, as the Packers front of Kenny Clark and the Smith brothers have given this Vikings offense fits, especially if you ignore the garbage time second half stats from this seasons week one battle.


Minnesota might be throwing in the towel on this season, trading their best pass rusher during the bye week, placed Danielle Hunter on IR, plus are dealing with injuries to their cornerbacks...but the most important handicap is the matchup edges that Green Bay has against Minnesota, going back to last year when Minnesota was a good team.

Analysis: Matchup of a dead nuts over team in the Saints against a dead nuts under team in the Bears.


I like this game to go under, and believe the projected 20+ MPH winds hurt the Saints more then it does Chicago.


The Saints are potentially dealing with cluster injuries at wide receiver, and the narrative on Brees has been that his arm strength isn't what it used to be. Well, you are going to need arm strength playing outdoors against one of the best defenses in the NFL in heavy winds. I expect the Saints to rely even more heavily on the short passing game and run game against Chicago.


Chicago will also be effected by the weather, and they do not have the run game to maintain long drives. No team has run for less rushing yards per game then Chicago over the last month, while the Saints run defense remains the strength of their defense going back to last season.

Analysis: New England is a dead nuts under team, as I said last week in our New England/San Fran handicap. Since last season, the Patriots are 9-14 to the under, and this season their offense identity is a run first, ball control offense with very little explosiveness. New England is 29th in scoring offense and the reality of this team is that they need to win games ugly. The Patriots have scored a grand total of 28 points in their last three games.


The last 4 matchups between these two teams in 2018 and 2019 included only 31, 36, 26, 41 points. Josh Allen has not been able to figure out Bill Belichick's defense. Allen in three career games against Belichick is 46 of 95 passing, good for a putrid 6.1 yards per attempt and a 3 to 5 TD/INT ratio.


Josh Allen has struggled his last three games overall, but he also struggled in his most recent weather effected game, going 14 of 27 for 4.5 YPA and leading his Bills offense to only 17 points against the Chiefs two weeks ago. Rain and 16 MPH winds are in the forecast, further solidifying a play on under.

I thought this line was about right when it was around 5, but now that it's jumped a couple points due to the Bengals' O-line injuries, I'm going to hop on the home 'dog. Those injuries don't change much, as the Bengals O-line has been bad at pass blocking no matter who is out there, while the Titans defense ranks last in the league in adjusted sack rate. The Bengals have only lost by more than five points once all year, and that came in Baltimore. Joe Burrow can get through the backdoor against a defense that's 32nd in third-down success rate and 31st in red-zone success rate, one that will be missing players in the secondary due to injury.

The Broncos got destroyed last week against the Chiefs, but if you look into that game, their defense actually played really well on the day. With that performance, the Denver defense ranks in the top 10 in DVOA against both the pass and the run. While the Broncos offense has struggled, it's not like the Chargers are playing up to their normal standard defensively, ranking 13th in points per drive but allowing 29-plus points in three straight. With Justin Herbert coming off his first win and facing a good defense on the road, I see this is as a fine spot to fade the rookie QB and expect a close game.

This is a tough spot for the Steelers with the Ravens coming off a bye, but I don't see how you make either of these teams a favorite of more than three when they face each other with the way they're playing right now. The Steelers have an excellent defense that ranks second in the league in yards per rush, which will help slow down Baltimore's run game. The Ravens haven't been that successful in the passing game this year, so if Pittsburgh comes through defending the ground game, there's no reason this game should be out of hand in the second half. Take the Steelers and the points, since we're getting good value.

This is a massive total for such a mismatch of a game largely borne from the Chiefs getting to face a Jets defense that hasn't stopped anybody this year. But there are two reasons to love the Under here. First, the Jets defense has actually improved over the last two weeks, holding the Dolphins to 24 points and the Bills to nothing but field goals. And the Chiefs constantly go Under in games where they're double-digit favorites, with the Under 8-2 in that situation since 2015. Expect the Jets offense to continue struggling and the Chiefs to shift down in the second half, keeping us well short of this total.

Both of these teams will be looking to run the ball a ton in these conditions, and that will shorten the game and limit possessions. We also have a better chance of missed field goals with the swirling winds, and that's an angle we shouldn't overlook with a number over 50. The one worry I have is that both these defenses have given up a ton of points this year, as both rank in the bottom four of points allowed. But let's give the conditions an edge and peg this to stay in the 40s.

Buffalo's defense has struggled this year but with no threat of a passing game from New England, they can load up to stop the run and feel good about their chances of winning.

The Bears have a great defense and a terrible offense, and that's led to five of their last six games going Under 40 points. Even with Michael Thomas potentially coming back in this game, I love going Under here as I don't trust Drew Brees to do a lot throwing the ball in what should be very windy conditions. While the Saints defense has given up a lot of points, they've played well against the run, with a No. 4 ranking in DVOA. So unless Nick Foles turns back into the Super Bowl version of himself rather than what we've seen from him this year, we should feel pretty good about the Bears offense keeping us Under this total.

While I'm worried they can run the ball against a poor Dolphins rush defense, I think the rough spot will catch up on the defensive side of the ball as the team looks forward to a bye after this game. We should also trust coaching staffs when they make voluntary QB changes, especially when they're inserting a highly-touted rookie. Brian Flores and his staff know far better than us whether Tua Tagovailoa is ready. So I'm confident there's value on the home team here.

It's expected to be very windy in Cleveland, and that's going to give the advantage to whichever team is better at running the ball and stopping the run. The Browns have a big edge on both sides of the ball in yards per rush, so this sets up perfectly for them even with Odell Beckham unavailable. The Raiders defense is last in the NFL in points allowed per drive, so even in normal conditions I'd like the Browns to have success offensively. Cleveland's two losses came on the road against two of the best teams in the league in the Steelers and Ravens; there's a chance that they're a fair bit better than a solid but not great Raiders team.

This is a lot of points to lay on the road, but I think we should do it. For starters, my power ratings have this line three points higher -- the gap between these teams isn't that much smaller than the one between the Chiefs and Jets. The Giants offense is 30th in DVOA and 31st in points per drive; how do they score on a D that is first in DVOA by a mile and second in points per drive? The Bucs have scored 28-plus in four of their last five games, with the Bears as the only defense to slow them down at all. The Giants defense is solid, but it isn't on the level of the Bears. Expect a 27-13 type of game.

The Vikings succeed on offense when they can run the ball, but if Aaron Rodgers is torching a secondary that ranks 29th in yards allowed per attempt, Minnesota is going to have to throw it eventually. The Packers' big edge statistically in the first meeting doesn't paint an accurate picture of how dominant Green Bay was in the first half before the Vikings racked up some garbage-time stats and points. With the Vikings waving the white flag on the season by trading their best pass rusher, the Packers should roll.

Tannenhill was able to move the ball as the Steeler defense looked wore out in that 4th Q. Remember last week was the 1st game without Devin Bush the Steelers All-Pro LB. The Steelers defense has struggled in the past when facing mobile QB's that can run it as well as pass the football. The Steelers struggled earlier in the season when they faced Houston and Deshaun Watson and now they have to face Lamar Jackson. Last Year when they played here in late December and Pittsburgh needing a win to make the playoffs they couldn't contain the running game of Baltimore. As Baltimore ran the Football 44 times for 223 yards in a 28-10 win. Note the Pittsburgh offense last year couldn't punch their way out of a wet paper bag with Mason Rudolph and Duck Hodges at QB as Big Ben was out. Both defenses are Top 10 in PPG and YPP. Believe it or not Baltimore has put up better offensive numbers as Baltimore is #1 at running the FB in both YPG and YPP and overall Baltimore is #18 at 5.9 YPP while Pittsburgh is #26 at 5.4 YPP. Given the schedule spot, the stats, the injury to LB Bush and Home Field advantage I have to side with Baltimore. BALTIMORE 30-20. TAKE BALTIMORE as my 4% NFL GAME OF THE WEEK.

Coming off their bye week gives Tua the extra week to prepare and get comfortable with the offense. The Rams were good to us on Monday Night but now they have to travel to the East Coast on a short week. That in itself is a tough spot but it also must be noted this is the Rams 5th road game in 7 weeks and their 4th to the East Coast. Their last 2 games were physical games against San Francisco and Chicago. Lastly Miami does hold an added advantage that the Rams don’t know what to expect as far as a game plan as there is no game film on Tua as a starter in the NFL. TAKE MIAMI as my 4% NFL UPSET SHOCKER PLAY.

In those 2 games Indy ran the ball just 33 times for a 127 yards. In the 3 games before that all wins the Colts averaged 36 rush attempts and 125 yards per game on the ground. I expect them to go back to that here which will shorten the game. Note Detroit faced two very bad defenses the last 2 weeks and now must face one of the best defenses in the NFL so I see them having to work hard to get points which will send this one under the Total. Sam Darnold is up against it this week against the Chiefs defense that will likely be sitting on a lead from JUMP today with the biggest spread of the year….but he is such an enormous upgrade over Flacco, even without a running game to speak of or his receivers Crowder or Perriman I think he has a pretty decent day…also in one of the few matchups on the day without wind wreaking absolute havoc on the passing game. Mims seems to be the hot buy for today as the WR1 for the NYJ, but I can't see why the Chiefs and Spags wouldn't also know this….right?
Berrios saw 7 targets last week without the injury riddled team and should see that today at the least in my projections…getting just a couple of those to be decent chunk plays of any kind we cruise toward the 50 yard mark quite easily…and if the Jets can get a couple of solid possessions going at all if the Chiefs overlook this game whatsoever then we could get there by the 3rd quarter potentially!

This is just flat out straight value here…we avoid any issues with Seattle's record off a loss….any issues with a small spread like +3 that really commits to these 2 teams being equal on a neutral field (if HFA is intact in such a Covid season).
With a TT Over play here on the road team we also can avoid issues with Seattle being the top team in the NFL with yards per play on offense, with points per play on offense, and Seattle going north of 30 means NOTHING in regard to what San Fran can do on the offensive end…where by the way, they are coming off a game against a NE defense where they racked up 7.4 yards per play and 33 points.
The Seahawks have REALLY grooved on offense this year and Russ should be the MVP at this point, but on defense they rank only ahead of ATL and JAX at opponent's yards per play on offense…allowing 6.3 average this season. The 9ers saw the vulnerability in the night game last week in AZ and Shanahan knows he can score at will on this team with the right schemes…and in a game that DOESN'T have the weather issues running rampant across the league with likely low scoring affairs abounding and passing being a supreme difficulty, we should see a similar to last week and NFC West mojo high scoring both teams in the 30s matchup…according to our numbers!

This line crashed fast, there are some 3.5's starting to show. Getting the best of the number is always the goal. Ive been waiting 6 days for the Bears/Rams line to move to where I want it. I do my best to maximize line value for clients. I want every single half pt I can get.

So, as important as line value is, this line moved 1.5, didnt we lose too much value?

Answer. NO They made a HUGE mistake on this line. If the line had opened at 3.5 or 4. It would be a happy bet. The opener moved through “dead numbers”

Short summary: This is a bad spot for Pitt off a tough road win, and off to play another rival for conference bye , that is off a bye. Steelers have a bit of the injury bug also, but they were able to overcome it last wk vs TN. Baltimore has done a shift in their plan. They are retooling Jackson to be a pocket passer and he hasnt adjusted yet. Baltimore is down to 15th in the offense math model. Jackson no longer runs< and we watch him try and evolve to an accurate passer. Hes going up against our #1 defense , Pitt. The model has Pitt higher in Offense (11) vs the #3 Balt D. The conclusion is, Steelers are the higher rated overall team and getting over a FG. Stated above, line caved down from a great line to the spread we expected and wanted anyway.

The Chiefs present a ton of problems on offense…and for a 60 minute game with a QB that is trying to prove himself any way possible that he is the answer and not Trevor Lawrence for next season…but without the weaponry period, let alone with the injuries…this is immense value for a mobile QB like him who will be dropping back 40 or so times to not get outside at least a few times and take what the defense is giving him…especially as the KC rush piles in on the weak NYJ line.
Easy money here and Chiefs have allowed a total a 4th highest total rushing yards to QBs on the season…often seen when a team is down late and the prevent defense takes hold!

I just CANNOT. FATHOM. how this could even possibly be wrong…Cam has looked awful, the cupboard is bare (as per Bill's analysis) and the weather is going to be awful…which is fantastic for a running mobile QB like Allen and weapons out of the backfield aplenty like Singletary and Moss…and a defense EVEN better….plus the motivational factor of making the Pats like 4 games out of the division…theirs since roughly 2000.

Las Vegas Super Contest

Indianapolis Colts (-2.5) at Detroit Lions
The Colts have stumbled a bit over their last few games, but the bye should benefit them a great deal. They're excellent at everything except running the ball, and I don't think that's going to matter much against a Lions team coming off back-to-back road wins against bottom-of-the-barrel teams. The Colts defense should have no problem slowing down a Lions offense that was struggling before getting to face the Jaguars and Falcons, and I love the fact that the Colts are coming off a bye, which should widen the coaching edge between Frank Reich and Matt Patricia. Great spot for Indy here.

Cleveland Browns (-2.5) vs. Las Vegas Raiders
It's expected to be very windy in Cleveland, and that's going to give the advantage to whichever team is better at running the ball and stopping the run. The Browns have a big edge on both sides of the ball in yards per rush, so this sets up perfectly for them even with Odell Beckham Jr. unavailable. The Raiders defense is last in the NFL in points allowed per drive, so even in normal conditions I'd like the Browns to have success offensively. Cleveland's two losses came on the road against two of the best teams in the league in the Steelers and Ravens; there's a chance that the Browns are a fair bit better than a solid but not great Raiders team.

Miami Dolphins (+3.5) vs. Los Angeles Rams
This is a brutal spot for a Rams team making its fourth cross-country trip among five road games in a seven-week span, and they're doing it on a short week coming off the Monday night game. While I'm worried they can run the ball against a poor Dolphins rush defense, I think the rough spot will catch up on the defensive side of the ball as the team looks forward to a bye after this game. We should also trust coaching staffs when they make voluntary QB changes, especially when they're inserting a highly-touted rookie. Brian Flores and his staff know far better than us whether Tua Tagovailoa is ready. So I'm confident there's value on the home team here.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-10.5) at New York Giants
This is a lot of points to lay on the road, but I think we should do it. For starters, my power ratings have this line three points higher; the gap between these teams isn't that much smaller than the one between the Chiefs and Jets. The Giants offense is 30th in DVOA and 31st in points per drive; how do they score on a D that is first in DVOA by a mile and second in points per drive? The Bucs have scored 28-plus in four of their last five games, with Chicago as the only defense to slow them down at all. The Giants defense is solid, but it isn't on the level of the Bears'. Expect a 27-13 type of game.

Pittsburgh Steelers (+4) at Baltimore Ravens
This is a tough spot for the Steelers with the Ravens coming off a bye, but I don't see how you make either of these teams a favorite of more than three when they face each other with the way they're playing right now. The Steelers have an excellent defense that ranks second in the league in yards per rush, which will help slow down Baltimore's run game. The Ravens haven't been that successful in the passing game this year, so if Pittsburgh comes through defending the ground game, there's no reason this game should be out of hand in the second half. Take the Steelers and the points, since we're getting good value.
