MSW dropper has faced a pair of romping winners over off tracks of late, so this drop should wake her up, and the price figures square too; look out.


#1 Ajhar
The chalk drops in for a tag for the first time and has the best overall form, though he tried to get out late last time, which isn't a good sign; second-best.


#4 Mithra
Lightly raced runner beat the 1 when 2nd last time and hits hard, though that was in the slop, and his fast track form hasn't been as good; mixed signals.


Race Summary
The drop and getting away from two salty winners should both help the 3, and that 3-1 ML could be a bit higher by post too, so play him in all the slots, and especially to kick off the early Pk4 as well, since the betting public might not see past the 1 and 4, which means a win by the pick would knock out plenty of tickets right off the bat.

Stalker was a good 3rd on debut last time after passing a few late, should only build off that encouraging run, and meets a tough to trust group; look out.


#1 Our Dixie Blue
The chalk beat the pick last time, though only by 1 3/4 lengths, and note she was 3-5 that day, which makes her tough to trust here; trying to beat on top.


#2 Adhwaa
MSW dropper needed her return at Mth, as it was off a six-month break, and this reduced level will help too, though that comeback was dreadful; tread lightly.


Race Summary
The upside on the 5 is more than the 1 and 2 have combined, and the price will be better too, so play her to win and place, and especially to kick off the middle Pk4 as well, since she tipped her hand last time, and the expected improvement would make her a real problem for both favorites.

Versatile sort led, then dueled, then pulled clear late at Del last time, drew a nice outside attack post here, and will be a square price too; call right back.


#5 Wicked Awesome
Stalker has the best overall form here and has romped in two in a row, though he'll be overbet, and the pick has a race flow edge; still, looms plenty scary.


#2 Estilo Femenino
CD invader flew late to beat a good crew with a big figure, though regression could come here, and his lack of early speed isn't ideal; may run out of room.


Race Summary
The price will be right on the 7, and the race flow will be too, and they need to be, as he's a bit slow on figures, but those two coups may help him bridge the gap, so play him in all the slots, and especially in the late Pk4 as well, as he could fall through the wagering cracks, which means a win would add plenty of value to the sequence.

CD invader was in for a tag twice and didn't do a lot of running, but he rises in class here, which is a good sign, even though the reality of this is that this is a weaker crew.


#5 Prestonbird
ML favorite has some snappy works for a Stephen barn that is 8-4-2-2 on the meet, though 2-1 seems on the light side, so taking that price on top would be tough to take.


#7 Our Tatertot
Fellow firster goes for a Delong barn that is 21% on the year, and this one has a slew of solid works as well, but the barn is just 1-for-18 on debut, which clouds things.


Race Summary
Authoritarian likely won't be close to the 10-1 ML, but he should still be a decent price to bet played in his local bow, against a group of primarily first-time starters that could need one.

Class dropper also adds Lasix, so there's reason to think he'll fire his best today, and that speed he showed against better will play nicely here too.


#1 Iron Drill
Lifetime maiden in best on paper, which says a lot about the rest of this group, but at 0-for-22 you now what his M.O. is.


#4 Suvorov's Hero
MSW dropper hasn't run since May, so the layoff is a bit of a concern, as is the barn switch, but this is by far the easiest crew he's ever faced.


Race Summary
Miami Magic has run just four times, so he's got a ton of upside, which is more than most here can say, and the Lasix should help his speed last longer too, which only adds to his appeal.

Well-drawn runner also stretches out, so he should be closer to the pace today, and he didn't run poorly in the slop last time, and his lone fast track run was a romp at FL.

The favorite seems better on dirt, so the surface switch should help, but he's no faster than anyone else in here and has no margin for error, yet will be vastly overbet.


#9 Brevet Officer
The wildcard has never run on dirt or at two turns, but he showed talent at PID and is bred for this trip, though this post sure didn't do him any favors.

Lightning Jack ran well here last time and has a few decent route races showing too, and with Kenya Road being overbet, you should get enough value to give this one a play.

Free play tonight to open MAC play is Akron plus the points at home against Western Michigan.

Yes Akron, you read that right.

Listen, after a 1-11 against the spread mark last season for the host Zips and 17 straight losses straight up heading into this season opener I am under no delusions that the Zips are going to spring the outright upset tonight, but getting this many points on the very first night of the season against a Western Michigan team that isn't what you would call a conference "powerhouse" is something I am interested in.

The Broncos are on a 1-7-1 spread slide their last 9 games on the road and an overall spread slide of just 6-12-1 when asked to cover any points. Western Michigan's offense is going to have the challenge this season of replacing 3 year starting QB Jon Wassink and LeVante Bellamy is also gone from the backfield. Not so sure there is enough offensive firepower to roll this Akron team on the road tonight.

The Zips may not have won straight up since back in the 2018 season, but Akron does have their starting quarterback Kato Nelson back along with Nelson's 4 top pass catching receivers.

If Akron can get something, anything going tonight - and you know they will be itching to get head coach Tom Arth his first win with the program - then perhaps the home team can at least keep this one closer than expected.

I like when a pony wins after shipping in from elsewhere. It shows that they really like the track here. I'll take this filly to win again. A thoroughbred coming back this quickly after a sharp race is a good sign.

The line keeps dropping as the Golden Flashes were nearly a TD favorite and are now down to nearly a FG favorite in this one. I like Kent State at home in this one. They have won each of the last 5 meetings ATS and also got the SU win in 4 of the 5 games. Eastern Michigan lost an all-MAC quarterback plus their top running back from last season. The Eagles also lost two of their top tacklers from last year's defense. Eastern Michigan truly lost key personnel plus a lot of experience overall from last season's team and on both sides of the ball too. I am forecasting this to be a rebuilding season for the Eagles. Though Kent State is by no means a great team, they are the better team in this match-up plus at home plus return a lot more experience from last year's team than does Eastern Michigan. FRANK’S CUTTING ROOM FLOOR FOR WEDNESDAY, 11/4:

My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. One of the final plays that I considered closely but dismissed on Wednesday was Over the Total in the game between Eastern Michigan and Kent State. Eastern Michigan makes their season debut having played 6 straight games Over the Total when playing on the road. The Over is also 6-0-1 in the Eagles last 7 games when they are an underdog. Kent State hosts this opening game in Mid-American Conference play having played 4 of their last 5 games Over the Total. The Golden Flashes have also played 5 of their last 7 games Over the Total in November “MACtion” but those team trends should perhaps be taken with a grain of salt considering that Kent State had more than half their season completed for those previous November games. Wednesday CFB Free play. My selection is on the 'over' between Eastern Michigan and Kent State at 6 pm et on Wednesday.
This is the highest posted total on this week's MAC board but it's warranted in my opinion. I'm anticipating a shootout as the Eagles and Golden Flashes kick off a unique 2020 MAC season on Wednesday night. Eastern Michigan's offense was a rock solid a year ago but the common line of thinking is that it will take a step back with QB Mike Glass moving on. However, I still like what the Eagles have at all the skill positions on offense, particularly at wide receiver and tight end, and I'm also confident their offensive line can thrive, even with a few key losses from last season. This is a system that has been working and I like the opening week matchup against a beatable Kent State defense that didn't do a good enough job of getting after opposing quarterbacks last year. On the flip side, the Golden Flashes offense should be in for a big night against an Eagles defense that was bad last season and could be even worse in the early going here in 2020. QB Dustin Crum is an elite quarterback by MAC standards and will be working behind an offensive line that can only improve with four starters back in the fold after a dismal 2019 campaign. As I mentioned, the Eagles defense is by no means imposing and unlikely to apply enough pressure to take advantage of a Kent State o-line that likely needs to shake off some rust. Look for a high-scoring, back-and-forth affair. Take the over (8*).

The Key: Ball State finally has the team that should break through and challenge for a MAC title in 2020. Mike Neu is in his 5th season here with his best team yet that returns 14 starters. They have one of the best quarterbacks in the conference in senior Drew Plitt, who completed 64.3% last year for nearly 3,000 yards and 24 touchdowns against only 7 interceptions. He also rushed for 5 scores. He has 3 of his top 4 receivers back along with 1,275-yard rusher Caleb Huntley. Miami was very fortunate to win 8 games last year as they went 5-0 in games decided by a TD or less. They do have a lot coming back, but they will be without their top 2 RB’s in Bester and Shelton who combined for over 1,300 yards and 16 TD last year on the ground. The won the MAC last year miraculously and will probably not have the same kind of hunger coming into the season that Ball State will. And I just think the Cardinals have the better squad this year. The Cardinals are 22-5 ATS in their last 27 games as road dogs of 7 points or less. Take Ball State.

I think we are getting a great price here with the UNDER at 60 in Wednesday's MACtion that has Central Michigan hosting Ohio.
Both of these teams are legit contenders to win the MAC this year. Central Michigan was one of the biggest stories of 2019. First year head coach Jim McElwain took over a Chippewas team that went just 1-11 and wound up leading CM to the MAC title game and 8-6 record.
Ohio went 5-3 in conference play, which T-2nd in the East, but could have easily been 8-0. All 3 losses were by exactly 3-points.
Both teams lit up the scoreboard last year. Bobcats averaged 34.3 ppg and Chippewas put up 30.4 ppg (up from 15.0 ppg in 2018).
However, both teams will likely be going into 2020 with a red-shirt freshman at QB. With senior David Moore likely suspended early, Daniel Richardson will likely start for CM. Kurtis Rourke will start for Ohio.
While there's concerns with both offenses given the lack of experience at the most important position, both teams are loaded with talent on the defensive side. I just don't see both teams going off and that's what you need to get over a total like this.
Not only do I think both teams run a little more given they are trying to ease in a new QB, but there's expected to be close to 15 mpg winds, which I feel will take some points off the board. Give me the UNDER 60!

Both Ohio and Central Michigan were two of the best teams in the MAC last year. A big reason for it was their quarterback play. But they both lose their starting quarterbacks this year, and I think both offenses will be behind the eight ball in their season openers tonight as a result.
Ohio loses three-time All-MAC performer Nathan Rourke, who has started the last 37 games for Frank Solich and has consistently been of the conference’s best. He threw for 2,820 yards with a 20-to-5 TD/INT ratio to go along with 867 rushing yards and 13 scores last year. He is simply irreplaceable for this team.
Central Michigan has to part ways with Quenten Dormandy, who completed 64.6% of his passes for 2,312 yards with a 14-to-9 TD/INT ratio last year. Backup David Moore also started four games for them last year but hasn’t been reinstated yet due to a suspension for a banned substance. That leaves freshman Daniel Richardson to get the start in the opener for the Chippewas.
Both teams can rely on solid defenses in the opener. Ohio could have the best defense in the MAC with eight starters back from a unit that gave up 26.5 points per game last year. Central Michigan returns seven starters from a defense that allowed 28.3 points per game last season and should be one of the most improved units in the MAC. The UNDER is 4-0 in the last four meetings. Bet the UNDER in this game Wednesday.

The Mid-American Conference became the first FBS conference to postpone the fall season because of concerns surrounding the coronavirus pandemic back on Aug 8 but 'reversed field' on Sep 25 by announcing that a season would be played, one which would feature a six-game, conference-only schedule. All 12 MAC schools will open the season Wednesday, Nov 4, and then play their next two games on Tuesdays or Wednesdays before transitioning to Saturdays for the final three weeks. Each team will play five division opponents and one crossover opponent in Week 1. Ohio U (7-6 in 2019) will visit Mt Pleasant on Wednesday to take on Central Michigan, which was 8-6 last season, winning the MAC West title (6-2) but losing 26-21 to Miami-Ohio in the MAC championship game.
Head coach Frank Solich came to Ohio in 2005 after he spent six years as Nebraska's head coach where he succeeded Tom Osborne. Solich was 58-19 in six seasons and led the Cornhuskers to the BCS national championship game in the 2001 season, where they lost 31-14 to Miami-Fl. Solich won only one Big 12 North title and conference championship in six seasons and had a 1–9 record on the road against ranked teams (0–9 in conference play). He was fired after the 2003 season. He arrived in Athens in 2005 and didn't have much success the first four seasons. However, Solich has led the Bobcats to 10 bowls in the last 11 seasons. Think that's NOT a big deal? Ohio's first football game was played in 1894 and the school had made just TWO bowl appearances prior to Solich's arrival.
Ohio takes the field in 2020 without QB Nathan Rourke, who put up over 10,000 yards of total offense while accounting for 111 TDs in leading the Bobcats to THREE straight bowl wins. His replacement will be either his brother (Kurtis), a redshirt freshman or true freshman CJ Harris. RBs Sullivan (869 yards / 6.3 YPC / 6 TDs) and Tuggle (644 yards / 6.4 YPC / 11 TDs) return, as do WRs Cox (39 catches / 17.0 YPC / 2 TDs) and Hooks (26 catches / 19.8 YPC / 5 TDs) plus TE Luehrman (28 catches / 5 TDs). Solich typically fields a solid defensive team and I expect Ohio to have among the better defenses in the MAC but two key players, CB Brooks & LB Conner opted out.
Jim McElwain made a name for himself at Colorado St, which got him the head coaching gig at Florida in 2015. The Gators went 10-4 and 9-4 in his first two seasons but he had problems with "powers that be" and was let go after a 3-4 start in 2017. He resurfaced at Central Michigan in 2019, taking over a team that went 1-11 in 2018. Things couldn't have gone much better in his first season, as the Chippewas won the MAC West (6-2) and finished the season 8-6 overall, although they lost the MAC title game 26-21 to Miami-Ohio and their bowl game 48-11 to SD State
While the season ended with back-to-back losses, it was quite a bounce-back season for CMU. The Chippewas have questions at QB similar to Ohio U, with two unproven candidates in Richardson and Pearson. The running game is in solid hands with Kobe Lewis (1,074 yards / 5.9 YPC 12 TDs) and exciting freshman Lew Nichols. All three WRs are back, led by Kalil Pimpleton (82 catches / six TDs) plus so is TE Tony Poljan (33 catches / 15.0 YPC / 5 TDs). CMU ranked second in the MAC in yards allowed (363/0 YPG) and McElwain, a defensive coach, has eight starters back.
Here's the bottom line. Central Michigan was a perfect 6-0 SU at home in 2019 and has won EIGHT of its last 10 meetings with Ohio U, including FOUR in a row. At this price, CMU is the play.

This line has moved way too much toward Toledo this week to provide some line value on Bowling Green now. This is a Toledo team that finished just 6-6 last year after going 2-5 in their final seven games with their five losses coming by an average of 23.0 points per game. They may be better, but they shouldn’t be laying 24 points to Bowling Green. One of those losses came to the Falcons by a final of 7-20 as 26-point favorites. Keep in mind Bowling Green wasn’t very good last year and went just 3-9. But they were in the first year under head coach Scot Loeffler and will be much better in his second season. They were a very young team last year and now are a much more veteran team with 16 upperclassmen starters. And there’s no question they will get better QB play with BC transfer Matt McDonald. The top three receivers from last year return for McDonald plus leading rusher Bryson Denley. The road team is 5-1-1 ATS in the last seven meetings. Give me Bowling Green.

Scot Loeffler accepted a paycut of up to 100K due to COVID-19, which is admirable. He'll look to help lift the Falcons to previous heights since they haven't had a winning season since 2015, which is when Dino Babers left for Syracuse. He's got his QB in Boston College transfer Matt McDonald, who was denied a waiver in 2019. Bowling Green has gone 3-9 in consecutive seasons but did win this rivalry game last season, pulling off a stunning 20-17 home upset as a 26-point underdog to snap a nine-game winning streak in the series.

Count on that being a motivating factor for the Rockets, who fell well short of expectations in 2019. Since Bowling Green has a new quarterback, nine true freshmen and seven redshirt freshmen on its two-deep, you can count on a long night filled with mistakes and learning experiences. The Falcons haven't won in the Glass Bowl since 2008 and should wear down given the collective strength of a a Rockets' offensive line that gets back standout center Bryce Harris, which should make the difference. Lay the points and ride Toledo -22.
