Analysis: Teams playing the following week off of a win as a ten point underdog are 33-64-3 ATS. The logic is simple: After a upset win of that magnitude, teams typically come back to earth and have a let down spot. There may be no bigger let down spot this season after the Jets finally can now breath a sigh of relief that they will not be going 0-16 this season.


Let's remember that this Jets team is still a historically bad team. Their only pro bowl caliber defensive player, Quinnen Williams, is now out for the season. Baker Mayfield is playing his best ball of the season, and he thrives against defenses that can not pressure him. The Jets were bottom five in most major pass rushing metrics, and that was with Williams.


When we bet against a team as bad as the Jets, typically we are getting negative power rating value, as the market is essentially begging for Jets money. I make this game Browns -10.5, giving us value going through a semi key number, and I love the matchup and situation for Cleveland!

The Rams have dominated this series from a point spread standpoint, covering the Vegas number in all three meetings since the start of last season. Los Angeles is a profitable 13-5 ATS following a loss under head coach Sean McVay, including 9-2 ATS since the start of last season. Los Angeles is 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS off a loss this season, winning by an average of 9.7 points per game.

The Rams are a 63.6% ATS winning proposition in divisional affairs under McVay and are 4-1 ATS in their previous five games as road underdogs. However, the NFL is a contrarian league and the betting market has overreacted to last week's stunning defeat. The Rams rank No. 1 in the entire NFL in raw EPA differential. Los Angeles ranks No. 7 in success rate offensively and No. 4 success rate defensively against the pass.

Finally, Seattle has reverted back to a conservative offensive philosophy that fails to utilize quarterback Russell Wilson's strengths. Indeed, Wilson attempted just four passes with 10-plus air yards last week and finished with an average depth of target of just 5.1 yards. Take the Rams and invest with confidence.

The Jags have lost 13 straight games and we know that but Minshew will be back in this game and the Bears did beat the Vikings in their last game but come on, Mitchell threw for 200 yards and 1 TD/1 Interception. I think the Jags come off a horrible game against the Ravens and consequently I do expect them to bounce-back here. Remember, this team did nearly beat the Packers earlier this year and I think they show up here and though they could not run the ball against Baltimore, they will be able to run the ball against Chicago. Of course, I do see the Jags fading away near the end of the game, but the early part of this game I expect them to play very tough and then I expect Chicago to pull ahead and win but I do not see the Bears covering 3 straight here.

3-Unit Play. #471. Take New York Giants +10.5 over Baltimore Ravens (Sunday @ 1pm est)

Jones should be back for this game as he has been itching to get back and McCoy did not play bad at all last game against the Browns but they simply failed to take care of their opportunities in the red zone. I think the Giants play hard this week because they are well aware the Redskins could lose to the Panthers and they have a legit chance of still making it to the Playoffs. The Giants have a front line that can contend with the Ravens and remember, the Giants love a challenge as this team nearly beat Tom Brady and I think they give it their all here this week.

3-Unit Play. #469. Take Carolina Panthers +1.5 over Washington Football Team (Sunday @ 4:05pm est)

The Panthers might shock Washington here and we will be here for it. Carolina has not given up at all this season and they have played hard every snap and one has to ask itself, why are the Panthers only a small dog here. We believe it is because they are continuing to play hard and Coach Rhule has them looking good - they lost by just 8 to the Packers, by 5 to the Broncos but simply were overlooking them, lost to Vikings by 1 and beat Lions 20-0. Carolina will show up in this game and we like the gameplanning of Carolina better here than Washington as Ron Rivera loses to his old team.

Broncos had a horrible game against the Bills and they will bounce-back here. Remember, Denver only lost by 6 to the Chiefs and this Denver team has beat the Chargers the last 3 times, this is a divisional game, Fangio will want to win this game and the Chargers cannot be trusted after having won back to back games to Atlanta and Vegas on national television, Denver and Lock will play much better here - as this team beat Carolina earlier this year on the road and they can do it again here to the Chargers.

7-Unit Play. #464. Take Houston Texans -7.5 over Cincinnati Bengals (Sunday @ 1pm est)

Houston nearly beat the Colts last week and has had tough losses the last two weeks. Watson fumbled the ball late against the Colts and it was tough to watch as they truly played well and had over 400 yards of offense on a good Colts defense. This Houston team is likely to bounce-back here as they found some quality receivers and rushed teh ball hard and the Bengals do come off a big win against the Steelers, but they only had 220 yards of total offense and they were luck in the sense that Big Ben only threw for 170 yards and 1 touchdown and 1 interception. That will not happen here with Watson and the Texans who are looking to thump somebody after last week and it doesn't matter if it is Allen or Findley, the Bengals come back down to earth here as the Texans wins by 2 possessions or more here.

Short and sweet.


Detroit finds themselves in one of the worst situational spots of the season. The season is over, the day after Christmas, their opponent is motivated to lock in a playoff berth, and the Lions will not only be without their head coach and offensive play caller but will also be without their defensive play caller.


The Tampa offense has thrived all season when Brady has not been pressured, and only only can Detroit not pressure the quarterback, but they have multiple starting cornerbacks out for this game, who will now be asked to cover quite possibly the best pass catching group in the NFL. The Lions have allowed a TD a drive on 47% of their drives over the last month.


I am not buying the Bengals being able to win yet another game without Joe Burrow. Tyler Boyd is out with a concussion, and despite some people thinking the Bengals are now back able after last weeks performance, let me remind you that Ryan Findlay completed 7 passes against Pittsburgh. That game was more about Pittsburgh losing then the Bengals winning, and you won’t find many bigger quarterback mismatches then what the Bengals will be going up against in week sixteen.

This write up will be short and sweet. Don't bet bad teams, unless they are getting points from a bad team. This is a crummy spot for Cincy off their MNF magical ride. Some feel this is a letdown spot. Bengals did benefit from excellent field position and were not some juggernaut on offense. Stopping 1 dimensional Pitt isnt the most impressive defensive accomplishment either.
The good news is that Finely had a fine game, and we hope he has added confidence. Houston gives it up on the ground, so he should scramble for some yards also. I forgot I had a brief write up for the Las Vegas Review Journal this wk, So I included below.

Bengals off surprising MNF throttling of 13pt Favorite Steelers. Finley, the lowest rated QB seen in years, may finally have found some confidence after the lottery like win. Houston rates 1 pt higher than Cincy in my metrics, and have no reason to be favored over a TD here. Injuries and suspensions in abundance for the Texans, contributing to why they have the #29 Defense. Poor rushing defense should allow mobile Finley to break some runs off and extend the sticks. One of my favorite NFL betting slogans "Don't bet bad teams, unless you're betting against a bad team laying points" Battle of bumbling teams can only mean the Bungles cover

Elliott has been announced as in, resulting in my decision to release this game. He didn't make the difference, as I already had my eye on the game, but I thought this line may dip back down, so I expedited the release. Short blurb at bottom for what I wrote for the RJ tomorrow.
I have these teams even. Amazingly, Dallas has improved more than Philly over the last 6 trailing weeks. Dallas +1.41 and Philly+.44 in line value metric rating. These teams rank 22nd and 23rd on one of my models, and its reversed in the other model. #16 Dallas offense up against #16 Philly Defense. Dallas #26 Defense will try and hold off the #28 Offense. The common theme here is these teams are the same on paper. Dallas gets to avenge that idiotic loss in game 1, where we missed the cover because the refs allowed a play, thought to be dead, continue with everyone standing around watching a Philly defender stroll down the field with the football. There's no crying in betting, but that was an unpleasant decision by the refs to not do their jobs properly. Cowboys get the home dome and I'm a betting that they have every intent to salvage some self respect against the Eagles. These last 2 weeks are always difficult, as the pressure mounts on bubble teams, and many teams start to play fast and loose.

Analysis: I made this line pick. Eagles fans are optimistic about rookie QB Jalen Hurts. Dallas will never lay down at home against its division rival. Both teams are a mess of poor coaching, injuries and unattainable expectations. A Washington win would mercifully bump these pretenders from playoff contention. Many are running to the window with fists full of money to play the Eagles, but I have to look the other way. It feels as if this game will be full of mishaps.

The Rams have dominated this series from a point spread standpoint, covering the Vegas number in all three meetings since the start of last season. Los Angeles is a profitable 13-5 ATS following a loss under head coach Sean McVay, including 9-2 ATS since the start of last season. Los Angeles is 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS off a loss this season, winning by an average of 9.7 points per game.

The Rams are a 63.6% ATS winning proposition in divisional affairs under McVay and are 4-1 ATS in their previous five games as road underdogs. Since 1989, NFL teams off a loss as a favorite of at least two touchdowns are 7-3-1 ATS in their next game, including 5-1-1 ATS if they won nine or more games the prior season. NFL teams coming off a loss to an 0-8 or worse opponent are 7-0 ATS in their next game versus .444 or greater foes entering off back-to-back wins. Seattle applies to a very negative 31-70 ATS system of mine that invests against certain teams priced between +3 and -3 in conference clashes.
Los Angeles enters off one of the biggest regular-season upsets in the past decade, losing to the Jets 23-20. However, the NFL is a contrarian league and the betting market has overreacted to last week's stunning defeat. The Rams rank No. 1 in the entire NFL in raw EPA differential. Los Angeles ranks No. 7 in success rate offensively and No. 4 success rate defensively against the pass.

Finally, Seattle has reverted back to a conservative offensive philosophy that fails to utilize quarterback Russell Wilson's strengths. Indeed, Wilson attempted just four passes with 10-plus air yards last week and finished with an average depth of target of just 5.1 yards. Take the Rams and invest with confidence.

The wrong team is favored in this game as my math model favors Cal-Irvine by 0.8 points and the Anteaters have played a substantially more difficult schedule. The betting market has undervalued the Anteaters in light of the fact that head coach Russell Turner had to replace four senior starters this season. However, Turner has demonstrated that Irvine's success is not predicated on roster continuity.
The Anteaters have won the conference title three of the last four seasons and five of the last seven. While Irvine's roster has changed over the years, its success has remained steady. The Anteaters return four players who played significant minutes last season and were an integral part of the team's overall success.
Junior forward Collin Welp, one of the best players in the Big West Conference, returns after leading the team in scoring and three-point percentage in 2019-20. Welp is averaging a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game this season. Redshirt senior Brad Greene is one of the conference's best rebounders and shot blockers and currently leads the Anteaters in blocks per game (1.4).
Irvine's depth is solidified by three returning sophomores, all of whom played in every game last year, averaging 12.6 or minutes. Point guard Isaiah Lee was second on the team in assists and has valuable experience after playing for Australia's national team prior to his freshman season.
From a technical standpoint, Irvine is a profitable 16-6-2 ATS in its last 24 home games and 10-4 ATS in its last fourteen games versus .601 or greater opposition. With the home team standing at 5-2 ATS in the previous seven meetings in this series, grab the points with the Anteaters and invest with confidence.

Cincinnati's performance on Monday night was a compete outlier. After scoring no more than 17 points in each of their last five games, with an average of just 10 points per game in those contests, Cincinnati managed 27 points against the Steelers. We see the Bengals falling back to their previous form without Joe Burrow and as such do not see them forcing Houston to score enough to anywhere close to the total in this game.
Houston has allowed 27.6 points per game so far this season but Cincinnati is not the team to take advantage of that. The Bengals are 0-13-1 OU (-10.36 ppg) since Sep 11, 1994 as a dog of more than a TD facing a team allowing at least 23 points per game (team=Bengals and line>7 and oA(ohttps://www.cappersmall.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gifoints)>=23 and date>=19940911).

Whole Cincinnati pulled off that massive upset last week the Bengals are still just 3-10-1 on the season. In week 13 of the season and beyond, teams that are below .500 on the season but won by more than three points last game are 243-308-9 OU.

Cincinnati was a 13-point underdog in that game, failing to cover by 23 points. The Bengals are 0-9-1 OU (-7.15 ppg) since Nov 18, 2012 on the road coming off a game as a dog of more than three points where they covered (team=Bengals and A and p:ats margin>0 and 3=20121118).

Before that Cincinnati failed to cover each of their previous two games. Teams that covered by more than 17 points last game after they did not cover in either of their last two games are 152-196-5 OU.

Cincinnati jumped all over Pittsburgh in that game, leading 17-0 at the half. Teams coming off a game as an underdog where they led by at least 17 points at halftime are 117-147-3 OU.

But after Cincinnati pulled off that big upset win last week the Bengals are still huge underdogs in this game and that is a huge sign. Teams are 8+ point dogs after winning by 8+ points last game are 17-34 OU (p:W and p:line>=8 and line>=8).

Houston enters this lower total game coming off a 27-20 loss to the Colts. The Texans are 0-10 OU (-6.70 ppg) since Dec 03, 2017 when the total is under 46 and they are coming off a loss as a dog (team=Texans and total<46 and phttps://www.cappersmall.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gifL and date>=20171203).

This total is considerably down for Houston as the totals from the Texans last three games have averaged 48.5 points. Teams in games with a total no more than 46 when the average total in their last three games was at least 48 are 132-222-6 OU.

Houston gained 22 first downs in that loss to Colts. The Texans are 0-10 OU (-12.40 ppg) since Nov 01, 2015 as a home favorite when they gained at least 22 first downs last game (team=Texans and HF and p:first downs>=22 and date>=20151101).

Houston threw for 342 yards in the game. The Texans are 0-9 OU (-10.33 ppg) since Dec 24, 2016 at home coming off a game where they threw for at least 300 yards (team=Texans and H and phttps://www.cappersmall.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gifassing yards>=300 and date>=20161224).

This Houston team is likely to bounce-back here as they found some quality receivers and rushed teh ball hard and the Bengals do come off a big win against the Steelers, but they only had 220 yards of total offense and they were luck in the sense that Big Ben only threw for 170 yards and 1 touchdown and 1 interception. That will not happen here with Watson and the Texans who are looking to thump somebody after last week and it doesn't matter if it is Allen or Findley, the Bengals come back down to earth here as the Texans wins by 2 possessions or more here.

It was just a couple weeks ago when we went against Pittsburgh and cashed our 8-unit GOY on Buffalo. We followed with a free video winner last Monday, once again going against the Steelers. But as bad as things have been, the defense is still playing well and the offense began to show signs of a running game in the second half on Monday. The Colts have not looked too hot on defense of late, allowing an average of 424 yards per contest on 6.7 yards per play in its last four games. They were out-gained by an average of 46 yards per game by their last four opponents. It was just a couple weeks ago when we went against Pittsburgh and cashed our 8-unit GOY on Buffalo. We followed with a free video winner last Monday, once again going against the Steelers. But as bad as things have been, the defense is still playing well and the offense began to show signs of a running game in the second half on Monday. The Colts have not looked too hot on defense of late, allowing an average of 424 yards per contest on 6.7 yards per play in its last four games. They were out-gained by an average of 46 yards per game by their last four opponents.
