We use 3 CBB Models, all developed differently to pick different ways. They help us SPOT Potential Totals and all 3 have agreed that this number is too high. It is not the only thing we use but it is a starting point. We also use techniques that as far as I know have not yet been discovered by others including books. While these are not fail proof techniques they have been very profitable over the last few years. We also use offensive and defensive efficiency numbers, pace, projected pace, venue trends, league and division trends, injuries, along with other more "Standard" Handicapping Principles to get our final number and possibly make a play rated at 2* and 3*.


This total is set TOO High based on all 3 Models that we use and there are other reasons to play 3* here as well. Both Teams do Pace Well but skewed upward to each one's opponents so far. They do both have good OE as well. But both are Top 20% Defensive Efficiency Teams much like last season about a year ago when this game saw just 107 Points scored. This is a very important game for the visitors as they have not been winning the close games and we can expect some strong defensive intensity from the Cats this evening per the talk in the press this week. The number itself is high but it is because of some recent trends and should NOT be in the 140's according to what we have. We love this one at the current number and much lower. Let's play 3*UNDER at the best number you can get.

Note that Philly beat this team 3 times in a row so far and this is a Philly team that comes off a nice win against Washington but did not play particularly well. Note, we go for back to back great CBB Winners today. Note, Philly had a great effort from Embiid in the last game and he continues to dominate Allen each and every time they face each other. This game is nationally televised, Brooklyn had a great game last game against Utah but they likely have a big let down here against the Sixers who are extremely sound both offnesively and defensively and Doc Rivers gets his first crack at Kyrie here. Philly is deep, have considerable presence throughout the game where as with no Dinwiddie and Durant, the Nets likely lose here. Philly is hot right now, they keep it going with another win today on national television.

With Kyrie Irving recently announced as a late AWOL scratch and Kevin Durant already out, it would be easy to jump on the 76ers and assume they will roll Thursday. But the Nets proved last year that they are capable of being competitive without those two stars, and Irving's absence might just create some value. The spread jumped three points upon news of his absence, but this was already a bit of a play-against spot on a Philadelphia club that needless turned a blowout into a tight game Wednesday against the Wizards. Look for Caris LeVert to carry the load for Brooklyn.

As of this writing, we still don't know if Sixers star Joel Embiid will play in the second of a back-to-back, but we know Brooklyn won't have either Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving. Durant is out until next week due to COVID protocols, but Irving was just ruled out for personal reasons. Take Philly even if Embiid sits.

The Sixers offer nice value with Joel Embiid questionable on the second night of the road back-to-back. The loss of Kevin Durant is significantly more important than Joel Embiid resting or being limited in this matchup. Philadelphia has the defensive depth needed to force someone other than Irving or LeVert. My simulations make the Sixers -3.8 points better as this line is inflated after the Nets blowout win without Durant earlier this week.
