Steps up off the useful maiden win at the $20,000 level, but there's no way this filly is 3/1 if she's racing out of a lesser barn. Can do, but not with my money tonight.

Was no match for an easy winner last out, but he was able to hang tough late for second behind that runaway victor. He can probably sit just a touch closer this time around with winners.


#8 Alterana
Cutback player should get a good go of things from just off the pace at this shorter trip, but he has been favorite in each of his last three starts and has failed to make a serious threat late in any of them. You can have him at 2/1.

Hail State is worth a little swing on the rise to face winners after taking a big step forward in that second career start. He proved that he got over the local footing nicely enough, and he should get another great trip.

Wednesday NBA Free play. My selection is on Phoenix (moneyline) over Toronto at 9:05 pm et on Wednesday. We'll continue to fade the Raptors as they desperately try to break out of their early season funk. The simple fact is, Toronto is not playing a cohesive brand of basketball right now and the results show it. Here, the Raptors draw a tough matchup against a Suns squad that should be in a foul mood after a heated home loss to the Clippers on Sunday night (we won with the Clips in that game). Phoenix is of course off to a fine start, having won five of seven games to date. While Devin Booker has been terrific, it's also worth noting that former number one overall draft pick Deandre Ayton has also been rounding into form, knocking down 19-of-25 shots for 46 points while hauling in 19 rebounds over the last two games. Look for the Raptors struggles to continue for at least one more game. Rather than lay the points, we'll back the Suns at a reasonable price on the moneyline in this spot. Take Phoenix moneyline (8*).

My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. In my look ahead to Matchweek 18 in the English Premier League, I have a strong lean to Under the Total in the match between Newcastle United and Sheffield United. Newcastle (W5-D4-L7) is winless in their last five matches across all competitions after their 2-1 loss to Leicester City last Sunday. The Magpies have scored just one time in their last four competitions. They have scored eight goals in their seven EPL matches on the road with expected goals (xG) dropping to 5.96. But they have only surrendered 11 goals in those seven games. Sheffield (W0-D2-L15) has lost three straight games and they have failed to score in all three matches. The Blades had only allowed two combined goals over a three-game stretch before allowing Crystal Palace to score twice in a 2-0 blanking in their last match last Sunday. Sheffield United has scored only four goals at home. Even with the total at 2, take the Under. Best of luck — Frank.

Inter is coming in off a 6-2 drubbing of Crotone this past weekend which obviously will give them some confidence coming into this this match, while Sampdoria lost 0-1 at Roma, which remarkably was only their 3rd Under of the year through 15 games so far. Holding Roma to one goal was more luck than anything as they allowed 2.41 xG and on the season have the 5th highest xGA number in the league at 1.72.
Not a good omen facing Inter Milan who are averaging 2.14 xG scored this season and have scored the most goals in the league, now 40 through 15 games.
On the year, Sampdoria has a 12-3 O-U record while Inter Milan has an 11-4 O-U mark. Seems fishy to have the total set this low at 2.75 as I think this should be set at 3.0 or 3.25, but I’ll stick to my numbers and take the bait here.

BEAUTIFUL BABE - Faced tougher last time out at Golden Gate Fields. Based on Equibase class ratings, this is a weaker field, so I will put this horse on my list of contenders in this race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #9 BLUE LIZZY (ML=3/1), #10 RIVER JUMPER (ML=7/2), #2 SWEET REGARDS (ML=5/1),

BLUE LIZZY - 3/1 odds isn't enough for this entrant when looking at the most recent efforts. RIVER JUMPER - Not easy to bet on any horse in a short distance affair at 7/2 when she hasn't shown any competitive efforts in sprints in the last couple of months. I have some doubts when a vulnerable equine has front wraps added in the last affair. SWEET REGARDS - Has been beaten as the favorite twice in a row. A repeat is probably in store. Don't believe this steed will do much running in today's event. That last speed fig was pedestrian when compared with today's Equibase class figure.

Has to be given a chance versus this field displaying decent figures lately and an average Equibase Speed Figure of 64 under similar conditions. Overall the Equibase Speed Figures of this equine look decent in this affair. EL FENOMENO - He looks very good in this spot and I expect will be on the lead or close at the midpoint. Could best this group based on the Equibase speed fig - 86 - of his last contest. FROST'S SONG - I like the jockey on this gelding - solid chance to win the competition.

I believe he will add to that total in today's race. SCOTT POND - Rode this thoroughbred on December 18th and Corrales is right back in the irons in today's contest. The jock and conditioner combination have a beneficial ROI when they join forces. Trainer Oliver moves this horse down the class scale to face a weaker class today. This line makes no sense. The Pacers come into this game with a 5-2 record and fresh off a thrilling 118-116 win at the Pelicans on Monday. Houston is just 2-3 to start out the season and just lost by 13 (100-113) as a 4-point home favorite against the Mavs on Monday.
The fact that Indiana is a mere 2-point home favorite will have just about everyone running to place a bet on the Pacers here. Not me. When a line stinks this much in the NBA, my first thought is to take the other side. It's not a lock by any means, but if you fade what looks like the obvious lines in the NBA, you are going to profit long-term.
With that said, there are some positive factors for Houston in this matchup. Indiana is playing right now without one of their better players in T.J. Warren. Pacers aren't exactly deep right now and that could be a problem here after Monday's game against the Pelicans went to overtime.
Another thing is in the Rockets loss to the Mavs, they were done in by awful shooting. Houston shot just 39% from the field and 27.5% from behind the 3-point line. The Pacers held the Pelicans to 43.6% shooting on Monday, but had allowed 3 of their previous 4 opponents to shoot 50% or better. They are also struggling to defend the 3-pointer, as opposing teams are hitting 42% from deep against Indiana this year. If the Rockets get going from 3, you are in for a long night.
There's also some long-term systems that favor Houston in this matchup. First, we see that Home teams who come in shooting 47.5% or better from the field are just 8-28 (22%) ATS dating back to 1996. Second, road teams off an upset loss by 10 or more as a favorite, who have won just 25% to 40% of their games are 33-11 (75%) ATS over the last 5 seasons. Give me the Rockets +2!

Some bettors might be backing the Jazz here off a loss but again there is nothing there to impress us enough to not back the Knicks here. Since 2018 Utah is 37-31 SU off a loss, +3.1PPG. The Knicks have a losing spread record at home the past two full seasons but their average loss margin of minus -6.4PPG is enough to get a cover here.

The Red Storm (+7) are worth a look as a decently priced road dog in Wednesday's Big East matchup at Xavier. St. John's snapped a 3-game skid with a 94-83 win and cover at home against Georgetown on Sunday and I look for them to at worst keep this close against the Musketeers. Xavier is not in the best form right now. They have dropped two straight after their 8-0 start. Both games they really struggled from the field and you need your offense to be on point against the Red Storm, who come in scoring 82.6 ppg. Musketeers are just 9-19 ATS last 28 as a favorite and that includes a mere 6-15 ATS run in their last 21 as a home favorite. Play St. John's +7!

I'm going to go against the grain and grab the 7.5-points with the Gophers at Michigan on Wednesday. No one is going to want to be against Michigan, as the Wolverines come in 9-0 overall, 4-0 in Big Ten play and have covered 6 of their last 7 games.
Each of their last 3 wins have all come by double-digits against Nebraska (80-69), Maryland (84-73) and Northwestern (85-66), but one thing to note about those 3 teams is they aren't great defensively. Minnesota is by far the best defense they will have faced this season. If the Gophers can avoid an awful night shooting from deep, I think they are more than capable of hanging around and even pulling off the upset. Bet Minnesota +7.5!
