Australian Open
Nobody is playing better than Medvedev right now. He closed out last year with a win in Paris knocking of Alexander Zverev in the final and then followed that up winning the ATP Finals. He beat Zverev again, followed by Djokovic, Schwartzman, Nadal and then Thiem in the final to capture his first ATP Finals crown. That is an impressive run against the best in the world.
He has picked right up where he left off last year winning all four matches in the ATP Cup to warm up for the Open beating Schwartzman, Zverev once again and Matteo Berrettini.
Medvedev is Top 15 on Tour with his serve but there are a lot of good servers on Tour who don’t know how to return the ball. To separate yourself from the pack on the ATP Tour, you have to be able to return the ball and that is what separates Medvedev who currently ranks #5 on Tour with his return.
Pospisil is a tough opponent and could give Medvedev a little trouble early on in the match but ultimately in a best of five, Medvedev will wear him down. Medvedev beat Pospisil 2-1 in October after losing the first set 4-6. He then followed that up winning sets two and three 6-3, 6-2 showing the longer the match goes, the more he will impose his will as he simply does not get fatigued. I’m confident he will win in three sets and cover the 8 games.

These teams met yesterday. Carolina won 6-5. The Jackets are going to be extremely motivated to avoid losing twice in a row to the same team. I successfully played on Columbus the last time it was facing a team for the second straight time. After losing 6-3 to the Stars, the Jackets played much better, beating those same Stars in the rematch. The same thing happened when the Jackets faced both Tampa and Florida. They lost the opening game against each of those teams but won the rematch, in each case. While the Hurricanes are tough, they're not unbeatable. In their last "series," they beat Chicago in the first game but the Hawks bounced back and beat them in the rematch. The same thing happened at Detroit; the Canes won the opener but lost the rematch. Looks like very fair value getting the revenge-minded home team with a decent underdog return. Consider Columbus.

This marks the Coyotes' fourth game in a row in St. Louis. The Coyotes have upset the Blues during the past two games. So not only do these teams have rare familiarity with each other, but there should be incredible intensity especially on the Blues' part. Those are pluses for the Under. Arizona beat St. Louis, 3-1, this past Saturday despite getting only 19 shots on goal. The Blues went with backup goalie Ville Husso. A rested Jordan Binnington should be back in net for St. Louis. He makes a difference. He'll face a Coyotes team that ranks 23rd in scoring at 2.7 goals a game. Don't expect the Blues to produce any power play goals. Not only is Arizona 24-for-25 in killing penalties on the road, but St. Louis has failed to score in 36 of 40 power play opportunities ranking 28th. This includes going 0-for-13 in three games versus the Coyotes. The Coyotes have a top-10 defense. They draw a Blues squad that has shorthanded depth with Robert Thomas, Tyler Bozak and Zach Sanford out. Oklahoma State (12-5) has won three of their last four games after their 75-67 upset victory in double-overtime against Texas as a 1.5-point underdog on Saturday. The Cowboys have scored at least 75 points in four straight games — but they have then played 5 of their last 7 games Under the Total after scoring at least 75 points in two straight games. Oklahoma State has also played 8 of their last 11 road games Under the Total with the number set in the 140s. Kansas (12-7) has lost five of their last seven games after their 91-79 loss at West Virginia on Saturday as a 2.5-point underdog. The Jayhawks return home where the Under is 9-2-1 in their last 12 home games against teams with a winning percentage over 60% on the road. This feels like the right price and spot to back the Jayhawks at home. Kansas has had a rough go of it with 5 losses in their last 7, but one look at the schedule and you can see why they have been struggling. All 5 losses have come on the road to teams ranked in the Top 35 with 4 of them in the Top 20.
One of those was a 70-75 loss at Oklahoma State back on Jan. 12. I'm confident the Jayhawks get their revenge. Kansas is 31-16 ATS last 47 after failing to cover 6/7 of their last 8 games. They are also 22-9 ATS in their last 31 off a road loss by 10 or more and a perfect 9-0 ATS at home after playing a game as a road dog. Give me Kansas -5.5!

I'll back the 'under' as the Thunder and Lakers do battle in the first of a two-game set in Los Angeles on Monday night. Note that the Lakers rank tops in the league in defensive efficiency this season. While Oklahoma City ranks a less than impressive 19th in that category, it actually sits in top spot over its last three contests and a respectable seventh in the NBA on the road this season. Following an abnormally high-scoring affair by Thunder standards against the T'Wolves last time out (238 total points), I look for the scoring to settle down here. Note that the Thunder rank a woeful 26th in the league in floor percentage over their last three contests. I'm just not convinced the Lakers will lay the hammer down here, however, helping us to a lower-scoring game than anticipated. Take the under (8*).

Gonzaga was 31-2 when last season was shut down and finished second in the AP's final poll, behind No. 1 Kansas (28-3). However, Gonzaga/s was the AP's No.1-ranked team in its preseason poll and opened the 2020-21 season with a neutral-site meeting with Kansas (No. 6). The Bulldogs won that game 102-90 and have NEVER looked back. The new AP poll will be released later today and 18-0 Gonzaga (9-0 in the WCC) will surely maintain its no. 1 ranking for the 12th straight poll. The season hasn't gone as well for Kansas, as the Jayhawks are just 12-7 (6-5 in the Big 12) and will just as surely fall from the rankings in the new AP poll, ending a 231-week streak. Taking over with the most consecutive AP ranking will be Gonzaga, as the Bulldogs will reach 90 straight weeks!
Scoreboard watchers had to do a "double-take" when Pacific led Gonzaga 32-31 at halftime last Thursday, just 12 days after losing by 46 points to the Zags. However, Bulldogs 'restored order' with a 76-58 victory, extending the nation's longest-active winning streak to 22 in a row. Gonzaga leads the nation in scoring (93.3 PPG) and in FG percentage (51.5) and visits Provo having and have recorded 15 straight double-digit victories! The BYU Cougars are 15-4 (6-2 in the WCC) and own the distinction of being the last team to beat Gonzaga. The date was Feb 22, 2020, the site was the same as tonight's venue (Marriott Center) and the final score was BYU 91 and Gonzaga 78.BYU shot 53.2% from the floor (11 of 27 on threes), while Gonzaga shot 41.7% (5 of 25 on threes).
Gonzaga did avenge that loss 86-69 at home back on Jan 7 of this season but the Bulldogs just may have a tougher time here in Provo. Gonzaga is led by the 6-7 Kispert (19.9 & 4.9) and the 6-10 Timme (18.8 & 6.8) plus guards Suggs (13.8-5.5-4.4), Ayayi (11.7-7.3-3.4), Nembhard (8.9 & 4.6 APG) and Watson (7.8 & 4.3) round out quite an impressive six-man rotation. BYU has an excellent guard duo in Barcello (15.2-4.6-4.6) and Averette (11.3) plus the 7-3 Haarms (11.5 & 4.5) is joined up front by starters like the 6-8 Lohner (5.9 & 6.5) and the 6-6 George (5.3 & 5.3). The 6-11 Harward (7.5 & 5.2) comes off the bench plus four more guards get double digits in minutes to combine for 20.5 PPG.
ONE of these days Gonzaga will be 'taken to the wire,' so why not tonight? Take the home dog.
