She'll have to fire off the bench, but was facing stakes company through most of that 2yo campaign, and there is hope that she'll be an improved filly here in her 3yo season.


#1 Privately
She's the one to beat, but I think you're supposed to play against her. She's coming off a November 2019 layoff while bringing forward ability to this rail draw. Yes, she lands in a pretty soft spot for the local level, but I'll let her beat me.


#3 The Better One
Reliable type rarely runs a bad one, but she also tends to settle for a lot of underneath slices. Chance if everything goes her way, but she feels much more likely as a gimmick player.

Theladyistrue is worth a small look at a mid-range price, as she has some room for improvement in this 3yo debut. Despite going two turns in her most recent starts, both of her career wins came at this trip.

#9 Charitably Gifted
Pressing player has produced a couple of decent performances to open the career, and he should be in the right kind of spot turning for home if he's good enough to outlast these late.


Race Summary
Jokes R Flying should offer a playable price here, and I'm hesitant to take short kinds of prices on the other listed pair in here. Let's see if the a debuter can get home.

Really have no clue what kind of price this guy is going to offer here after the dismal comeback effort, but there is little reason to believe that it's truly his new baseline effort. Better price tonight.

Blinkers on for the first time tonight while stretching around two turns, and he should be quick enough to be right up on the splits in the early going. Wouldn't surprise.


#4 Freedom Rider
He has knocked on the door twice a this level, and he projects for another perfect trip from close range. Still, the price probably gets short in a spot where he's not head and shoulders better than these.

Officer Appeal will need a huge bounce-back effort to land this, but he's surely better than that comeback effort suggests, and the price should be playable to see if there is something better in this second start off the bench.

My free winner is the Baltimore Orioles in Chicago, as they'll shock the White Sox in this American League clash on the South Side.

I'm counting Baltimore starter Bruce Zimmerman to reverse his last start, which saw him endure the shortest start of his career on Saturday, when he allowed five runs in three innings against the Washington Nationals.

The rookie southpaw is poised for a decent start, as he's completed five innings in just one of his past five starts. Thing is, I know he is better than what we've seen, and it would be against an unsuspecting White Sox lineup that will be overaggressive at the plate we're going to see his full potential.

The O's could get Dylan Cease, who has yet to face the Orioles in his career, and after facing the Yankees on Saturday might need a couple of times through the lineup - if he makes it that far - to find his groove.

My complimentary winner for Thursday night is the Carolina Hurricanes and Nashville Predators to stay under the posted 5 1/2 goals.

If Nashville wants to stay alive in this series, it needs a huge goaltending effort from Jusse Saros, who has a 2.59 goals-against average during the playoffs, with a .928 save percentage. The Predators have actually done a pretty good job since the final stretch of the regular season in keeping pucks clear of the net, be it via clearances, blocked shots or saves.

Alex Nedeljkovic ranks ninth in the postseason with a 2.10 goals-against average, and has a .927 save percentage against the Preds.

The last three games have gone to extra periods - two in double-OT, and Game 5 in ovetime. One-goal, tight-knit affairs, and now the Preds are playing for their season with a chance to force the seventh game.

This comes down to the low-scoring game, and one of those first one to score wins the game.

Nashville saw 18 of 28 at home during the regular season stay low. Carolina is on a 5-2 under run after one day's rest and 10-4 under against winning teams. Further, the under is on an 8-3 run in this series.

The favored Hurricanes roll into Nashville up 3 to 2 and look to close out the first round of the Central division playoffs on the road. Will the Preds and 5700 rabid fans have something to say about that? I doubt it.
Carolina was a powerhouse all year, with Nashville sneaking into the playoffs near the deadline. The Preds showed grit, coming back from 0-2, and winning games 3 and 4 in overtime, but were outclassed in game 5, and only a knuckleball goal for and a Carolina tally called back allowed the game to go to overtime.
Carolina has more firepower, arguably better goaltending in Nedeljkovic, and with the return of healthy Slavin, a strong defensive core. With Capitan Staal and Aho on a mission, look for Carolina to finish the series in six, leaving smashville fans singing the blues until next year.

My selection is on Carolina over Nashville at 9:35 pm et on Thursday.
So here we are in Game 6 of this series and while it's been close, I've never felt the outcome was really in doubt. A bounce or two Carolina's way and this series would have been over a game or two ago. The Hurricanes have carried the play, outshooting the Preds in all but Game 2 - a game they won by a 3-0 score. Preds goaltender Juuse Saros has been the great equalizer but the Canes may have cracked his armor last game as they won on a bit of a bad goal (some would call it a bad bounce) in overtime. Note that the Canes have inexplicably performed particularly well off an overtime win over the last two seasons, going 17-3 while outscoring their opponents by 1.6 goals on average in that spot. Meanwhile, the Preds are just 9-14 at home revenging a one-goal loss against an opponent over the last three seasons, outscored by an average margin of 0.5 goals. Finally, note that the Canes have allowed just 1.6 goals per game on the six occasions where they've come off five straight games scoring three goals or more this season. With three consecutive games needing overtime to decide you might assume that this series is heading seven games but I simply feel Carolina is the superior team and will close this series out on Thursday night. Take Carolina (8*).
