Jeff Siegel's National Prime Plays for 7/1/21 July 1, 2021
Every Thursday through Sunday handicapper Jeff Siegel offers his best wagering opportunity from a selected North American racetrack. These “Best Plays” can take the form of a win wager, exacta, trifecta, or a daily double, pick-3, pick-4 or pick-6. Selections are listed in chronological order.

*

Gulfstream Park Race 3 – Post time: 1:54 ET
3-My Sassenach (8-1)

A pair fillies by the good regional stallion Uncaptured top the field in this Florida-bred maiden juvenile sprint at five one-half furlongs. Lara’s Lady will be trying to make amends for her no-excuse runner-up at 50 cents on the dollar in her debut last month after displaying good quickness to take control early but then being worn down late while more than four lengths clear of the rest. From a barn that has excellent stats (25%) with second time starters, she’s very likely to clear the field from her rail draw but today must negotiate an extra furlong and might prove vulnerable again in the closing stages and she may not offer much value at even money on the morning line My Sassenach impressed in a :10 1/5 breeze prior to the April OBS Sale and then sold for $152,000 through the ring, so she’s clearly well-regarded. Low profile connections should ensure a square price (she's 8-1 on the morning line), so let’s put D. Braddy-trained filly her on top as a win play and then for protection hook her up in a solid exacta box with the speedy Lara’s Lady.
*
*
Belmont Park Race 5 - Post time: 3:02 ET
5-Sweet Sugar Baby (12-1)

This maiden juvenile dash for New York-bred fillies should boil down to the two daughters of Mission Impossible drawn side-by-side outside in this six runner event. Sweet Sugar Baby, a $40,000 OBS March sale purchase after a strong :10 1/5 breeze during the preview session, vans down from Finger Lakes after a series of steady but unspectacular workouts that should have her fit enough for a major effort first crack out of the box at a juicy 12-1 on the morning line. Clearly, she won’t have to be a world beater to act with this group, her main contention coming from the second-time starting Parx shipper Darn That Song, off slowly before finishing a respectable third in a hot race just eight days ago. She’ll have no excuses from her cozy outside draw. We’ll use both in an exacta box and then press in the win pool with the much higher priced Sweet Sugar Baby on top.
*
*
Ellis Park Race 6 – Post time: 2:42 CT
3-Costa Terra (9/2)

By the highly-promising freshman sire Gun Runner from the dam of the good Stakes winner Pneumatic, Costa Terra debuts in this five furlong dash for juveniles and looks to have found a proper spot to win at first asking. A couple of sharp gate workouts in May at Keeneland catch the eye, and in a field in which the known element doesn’t impress the S. Asmussen-trained colt appears cranked up for a major effort. He’s 9/2 on the morning line and at anywhere near that price he’ll offer good wagering value in the win pool and in rolling exotic play.
*
*
Woodbine Race 7 – Post time: 4:24 ET
2-March to the Arch (9/5)

Primarily a high-class grass performer throughout his 25-race career but highly-capable over the local synthetic surface as well, March to the Arch faces what appears to be a stiff task in his first outing since finishing unplaced in the Breeders’ Cup Mile last November in this year’s edition of the 8.5 furlong Dominion Day S.-G3. A deep closer that generally requires help up front to have his best chance, the M. Casse-trained gelding will need to be fit and ready in a race that projects to be slowly-run early. However, the local work tab is sharp and steady, so with a distinct class edge and a history off firing huge off a layoff we’re expecting the son of Arch to overcome an unfavorable race flow and make him a strong play in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics.

AI Picks: Woodbine's Dominion Day | Thursday, July 1 June 30, 2021 | By Jeremy Plonk
A special Thursday, July card at Woodbine celebrates that nation’s Canada Day festivities. Woodbine will offer an 8-race program beginning at 1:20 pm ET. The feature event is Race 7, the $150,000 Grade 3 Dominion Day Stakes.
The 1/ST BET app looks at 52 handicapping factors and more than 200,000 past races to determine its AI selections. You can use the automated handicapping factors, or create your own factor filters to incorporate angles you prefer.

We’ve included the official track morning line odds with the Woodbine picks for the holiday stakes. Full selections can be found in the 1/ST BET app, where you can bet Woodbine racing and dozens of tracks worldwide.

//

Woodbine // Race 7 // 4:24 pm ET // Grade 3 Dominion Day Stakes // 1-1/16 miles

#2 March to the Arch (9-5 ML) // 27%W // 47%P // 66%S

#4 Mighty Heart (5-2 ML) // 19%W // 39%P // 54%S

#6 Belichick (6-1 ML) // 14%W // 29%P // 47%S

#7 Skywire (4-1 ML) // 14%W // 26%P // 38%S

#1 Lookin to Strike (10-1 ML) // 11%W // 27%P // 43%S

#3 Atone (20-1 ML) // 9%W // 18%P // 30%S

#5 Malibu Mambo (12-1 ML) // 6%W // 15%P // 23%S

Notes: Trainer Mark Casse sends out 3 of the 7 entrants (Lookin to Strike, March to the Arch and Skywire), including the morning line favorite and 1/ST BET AI top win projection. March to the Arch makes his first start since last year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile and was runner-up in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile on the local turf a year ago; he’ll transition to the Tapeta for the comeback race. Reigning Queen’s Plate winner Mighty Heart was a race short of Triple Crown glory last year, but accounted for himself nicely in open company last time out at Churchill Downs in the Blame Stakes. He’ll rematch with last year’s Queen’s Plate runner-up Belichick.

Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks Woodbine - Race #6

Picks
Notes

#11 Moonlit Silence
Draws well to spy the splits like she did last time out, and she has the pedigree to suggest she'll be able to handle the move to the turf while moving around two turns.

#4 Using Coconuts
She gets Lasix off the nose miss in the debut at this level, but she's adding ground while trying turf for the first time off the bench. She can win this, but there are principled reasons to stand against.

#5 Jungle Goddess
She'll have to fire fresh at the longest trip of her short career, but the move back to the turf should serve her well after a dull chase-and-fade main track try here to close out her 2yo campaign.

Race Summary
Moonlit Silence looks like she might land a really great trip while in touch, and she has some room to move forward in this second start off the bench with some trip/surface upside here.

Woodbine - Race #7

Picks
Notes

#4 Mighty Heart
Looks like he should be able to control the pace, and we know this Queens Plate winner can handle a two-turn trip on the main here. Tactical edge on the likely chalk.

#2 March to the Arch
He's the clear one to beat as he kicks off his 6yo campaign over a surface on which he has a win and a second from two career tries, and he has a big class edge on most of these while coming down out of the Breeders' Cup Mile.

#6 Belichick
He just missed in that comeback run at Churchill, and he has run pretty well over the local footing in the past. Chance, but think one of the top two will get home today.

Race Summary
Mighty Heart and March to the Arch should be tough to get past, and while 'Arch is classier, Heart has a big tactical edge on him and doesn't meet a ton of other pace to deal with in this spot. Price should be better, too.

Woodbine - Race #8

Picks
Notes

#7 Pocket
I'll take a big swing with the 0-fer barn running this one off the layoff, but she returns off the layoff with a mostly regular worktab. The barn has gone 2-for-5 with this type of MCL turf route horse here the last two years, with winners at $22 and $58, so I'm going to hope the addition of blinkers coupled with the new trip wakes her up at a big number.

#8 Candy's Dream
She has had 13 chances, but nearly all of them came in MSW company, and she ran okay on the main with better in her first try with MCL company. Tough if ready.

#11 Rosa's Soul
Would definitely want this one on the multi-race plays with some upside in this second start off the layoff, and her only career turf try produced one of her best lifetime efforts. The move around two turns probably won't hurt.

Race Summary
Taking a shot with Pocket for a barn that has not won a race since 2019, but they don't start many horses and have been a 15% turf operation the last couple of years, including a couple of longshot winners with this exact kind of company.

Frank Carulli's Daily Picks Woodbine-Mohawk Park - Race #1

Picks
Notes

#3 MIDNIGHT MIRACLE
Improved second start as a 3yo, moves outside in.

#6 HP MAMA B
Tactical speed, loves to win, top connections.

#4 HAWAII
Trotted evenly in pair of comeback tries, can't be discounted.

Race Summary
Midnight Miracle cleared to the lead from post 9 before the first turn, yielded to the favorites, then re-rallied first-over in the third quarter to finish a clear second. She gets the call in Ontario Sire Stakes in her third start this year.

Harrah's Philadelphia - Race #2

Picks
Notes

#8 I'M DONE TALKING
Better than latest appears, can overcome impost.

#3 ROCKIN ZENDAYA
Awakened at Pocono, passed the favorite for second.

#4 RODDYS AT IT AGAIN
Best numbers, seeks repeat since arrival from Harrington.

Race Summary
I'm Done Talking sat a pocket trip, overpowered the favorite in the lane and was wrapped up late under strong handling. She is today's Best Bet despite a negative post switch.

The Meadows - Race #7

Picks
Notes

#3 WATCH N SEE
Won in second start locally, can make good use of his speed in here.

#1 CAPTAIN FIREBALL
Held off cavalry charge for second while no match for longshot runaway.

#10 REBEL DEVIL
Hit board in 9 of 21 this year despite being plagued by bad posts.

Race Summary
Watch N See steps up off an easy victory and holds a tactical advantage in a field that lacks speed. He's worth a play at 5-1 on the morning line. Play a 3-1-ALL trifecta.

Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks Gulfstream Park - Race #2

Picks
Notes

#6 Robintakincharge
Has outstanding speed and once in front, he can be very difficult to catch; well spotted here.

#2 Resident
Is a main track only entrant and has the speed to dictate; very tough if this race is pulled from the turf.

#8 Joe Benjamin
Crushed maidens last time in his 14th attempt; can be in the mix from the start and looks game enough to dig in for a piece.

Race Summary
Robintakincharge is a strong threat on the front end and can be competitive at this level.

Gulfstream Park - Race #6

Picks
Notes

#1 Little Bit Good
Ran on for third last time and was a winner threat back. Can save some ground this time and she has the kick to be a legit danger.

#8 Isadorable Aida
Was second in his first off the claim by Carlos David and can move up in his second for the barn.

#2 Princess Betty
Is a main track only runner and has been in tougher races; solid choice if this comes off the turf.

Race Summary
Little Bit Good gets a good pace in front of her today and can mount a big rally to win it.

Gulfstream Park - Race #7

Picks
Notes

#4 Sheza Happy Girl
Has been in some tough sprints lately and could appreciate the additional ground of this one.

#5 Siren's Lucky Song
Was a maiden winner two back and has been a big player in all five starts; can mix it up from the beginning.

#1 Miss Mikaela
Romped vs. maidens last out and has been fairly close in all six starts; should be able to stretch out.

Race Summary
Sheza Happy Girl has been with some tough runners and has the class to battle it out; has a good chance at the distance.

#5 SASSY CAT (ML=3/1)

SASSY CAT - This horse obviously likes the conditions for today's race. Has registered the highest speed fig on the turf at the distance-surface. Ran in the last race against better company at Gulfstream Park. The move down the ladder based on class rating points should suit her well. Just check out her last speed figure, 64. That one looks good in this field.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 VIVI'S DREAM'S (ML=4/1), #4 GOLDA BISCUIT (ML=6/1), #7 COMMANDER GRACE (ML=8/1),

VIVI'S DREAM'S - That was simply not a very good showing in the last affair. Doubtful for this participant to do much running with no success lately in a short distance event. GOLDA BISCUIT - While Equibase's speed ratings are strong, I would forget about the high one from the May 15th on the soft turf. Some horses just run well on the off going. When looking at today's class rating, she will have to earn a much better speed figure than in the last race to compete in this turf sprint. COMMANDER GRACE - Last performed on January 30th at Gulfstream Park, finishing seventh. Not likely to perk up off of that outing in today's event. Garnered a mediocre speed rating last time out in a $16,000 Maiden Claiming race on January 30th. Not probable to see an improved performance off of that rating.

https://www.trackmaster.com/images/tophat.jpgGUEST COMMENTARY: The Turf Man - SASSY CAT - Her TrackMaster turf figure is tops among these horses. This filly deserves your wager.

# 3 DELIGHTFUL DREAMER 3/1

# 13 VIANI 9/2

# 8 CANDY'S DREAM 6/1

DELIGHTFUL DREAMER looks very strong to best this field. Facing a much less demanding field than last time out. Has been racing soundly and has among the strongest speed in the race for today's distance. Could provide positive gains based on decent recent Equibase Speed Figs with an average of 68. VIANI - Has to be given a chance versus this group of horses in this race displaying formidable figures recently and an average Equibase speed fig of 67 under similar conditions. This filly looks good for this event since Casse has a strong win percent with horses going this distance. CANDY'S DREAM - Has to be given a shot versus this group displaying very strong numbers as of late and an average Equibase Speed Figure of 70 under similar conditions. Ought to compete very well in the early pace clash which bodes well with this group.

# 2 PRINCESITA L 6/5

# 3 GIAH'S SPIRIT 3/1

# 4 PRETTY AND PROUD 10/1

I think PRINCESITA L is a very strong choice. Castro has been scorching the last month, winning at a nifty 36 percent rate. Ought to come out strong - I have liked the way this filly has moved swiftly to the lead recently. Ought to be given consideration - I like the figs from the last outing. GIAH'S SPIRIT - With one of the most competitive jockeys in terms of dividends at the window, don't count this filly out. Have to look at solely on class, with some of the top class figures of this group of horses. PRETTY AND PROUD - Conditioner boasts very strong win numbers at this distance and surface. With Velez in the saddle guiding her, this filly should be able to break out early in this contest.

#2 PISTOL P (ML=5/1)
#1 EISELE (ML=9/2)
#7 PONTICELLO (ML=3/1)

PISTOL P - Early speed is always important in horse racing, but the lone speed horse is always dangerous. This bullring favors speedy front running horses starting from the inside. Seeing as this is what we have with this horse, I'm going to take a long hard look at this one. Entered an Allowance race at Charles Town last out and raced on a sloppy track finishing seventh. Expect better in today's race. EISELE - Ran last time out against much better company at Charles Town. The move down the class ladder should suit him well. Ranked number 1 in EPS (earnings per start). Another notice that this horse has the class to win. PONTICELLO - Really have to figure this fine animal is going to be right there near the finish line.

Vulnerable Contenders: #5 LET'S GET PHYSICAL (ML=8/5),

LET'S GET PHYSICAL - No pace in this race to help this sustainer's dreams at winning.

Win Candidates 6-4-3 Rating 3 stars

#6 Town Classic-hard trying 8 year old has a 6-20-11 record from his 51 starts with over 353k in earnings. He has been in the money in 7 of his 8 starts on an off track, drops in class and will be tough to hold off.

#4 Happy Farm-came off a two month layoff last out and rallied to get his 5th win from 7 starts here. He keeps I.Oritz, likes an off tack and is the one to beat.

#3 Musical America-has been in the money in 4 of 5 on an off track and missed by only 3 at this same level last out. He cuts back in distance and that will help his chances at a price.

MLB | Dodgers vs Nationals
Play on: Dodgers -128 at linepros

My free play is on the LA Dodgers at 7:05 ET. The Washington Nationals came out of nowhere during the 2019 season to capture the franchise's first World Series title. Then in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, the Dodgers won their EIGHTH straight NL West crown on their way to their first World Series championship since 1988. That means this four-game Fourth of July weekend series will feature the past two World Series champions. The Nats come in playing their best baseball of the season, having won 14 of their last 17 games to reach 40-38. Washington plays in MLB's weakest division (NL East) and its recent surge has them just 2 1/2-games back of the first-place Mets. In contrast, the Dodgers play in MLB's strongest division (NL West), so their 49-31 record (EIGHT games better than the Nationals), leaves them 1 1/2-games back of the division-leading Giants, who own MLB's best record at 50-29. The starters for Thursday's opener will be LA's Tony Gonsolin (0-0, 2.77 ERA) and Washington's Patrick Corbin (5-6, 5.33 ERA). Gonsolin made 20 appearances (14 starts) for the Dodgers in 2019 and 2020, going with a 2.60 ERA. Gonsolin began the season on the opening day roster but did not appear in a game before he was placed on the injured list on April 4 with right shoulder inflammation. After a few rehab starts, he made his 2021 debut on June 9th. The Dodgers have won all FOUR on Gonsolin's starts but he's pitched a total of only 13 innings. He's recovering from right shoulder inflammation and has been dealing with fatigue in that area. However, he had his best outing of 2021 in his most recent start, allowing only a solo HR in four innings with seven Ks. Corbin spent six seasons with Arizona, winning 14 games in 2013 and 2017. He signed a six-year, $140 million deal with Washington in 2019 and delivered a career-best season (14-7 with a 3.25 ERA) plus was the winning pitcher for the Nats in their Game 7 series-clinching win over the Astros in the World Series. However, after opening the 2020 by winning his first two starts, Corbin went 0-7 over his last nine starts (team was 0-9!). Corbin has been better (but NOT by much) in 2020, posting a 5.33 ERA in 15 starts (team is 8-7). Corbin has seen a lot of the Dodgers in his career but while his ERA is a respectable 3.71, he's just 5-11 over 21 career starts (teams are 7-14). The Dodgers opened the season 13-2 but are a more modest 36-29 (.554) since. However, they still own the second-best run differential in MLB (+106), compared to Washington's plus-2. I'm on LA. Good luck...Larry

Rain is in the forecast. But I really hope they play this one because I see this total being too high. The Dodgers rank last surprisingly in the National League against lefties in batting average, hitting only .217. They're due to face southpaw Patrick Corbin here. Cobin has been one of the better lefties the last few years in the National League. After a slow start, he's turning things around with a 2.66 ERA during his last three starts. The Nationals have been mashing, averaging eight runs during their past four games. However, they could be without their two best hitters, Trea Turner and Juan Soto. Turner jammed his little finger during a sixth-inning dive on a triple Wednesday night. Soto left last night's game in the ninth inning due to hamstring discomfort. LA is starting Tony Gonsolin, backed by a fully rested bullpen. The Dodgers were idle Wednesday. Gonsolin is another high-ceiling, talented young Dodgers pitcher. He's been building stamina following a stint on IL due to right shoulder inflammation. He allowed one run on one hit with seven strikeouts and two walks in four innings during his last start this past Friday against the Cubs.

Jack's Free Pick Thursday: Cincinnati Reds -116
The Cincinnati Reds will be highly motivated for a victory Thursday to avoid the sweep after losing the first two games of this series to the San Diego Padres. I like their chances with Luis Castillo on the mound.
Castillo has allowed 3 earned runs or fewer in six consecutive starts. He is 1-1 with a 0.90 ERA in his last three starts, allowing just 2 earned runs in 20 innings.
Castillo is 2-1 with a 2.00 ERA in his last three starts against the Padres, allowing just 4 earned runs in 18 innings with 20 K's. He'll be opposed by Ryan Weathers, who will be making his first start since June 7th.
The Reds are 7-1 in their last eight games as home favorites. This is the first time they have been favored in this series, and they are favored for good reason tonight. Bet the Reds Thursday.

Thursday's Free MLB Pick is on the Cincinnati Reds as a -115 home favorite against the San Diego Padres. I'm going to jump on the Luis Castillo bandwagon. He's finally starting to pitch like the guy we expected to see from the beginning of the season. In his last 3 starts, Castillo has posted a 0.90 ERA and 1.150 WHIP in his last 3 starts, giving up just 2 ER in 20 innings. Padres will send out Ryan Weathers. While he's pitched well, this will be his first start in almost a month. Expect some rust. Bet the Reds -115!

Thursday MLB Free play. My selection is on the first five innings 'under' between New York and Atlanta at 7:20 pm et on Thursday.

The Braves absolutely crushed the Mets last night, scoring 20 runs in the process. Here, I look for a much lower-scoring start at least as the Mets hand the ball to their ace Jacob deGrom against Ian Anderson of the Braves.

deGrom is of course arguably the best pitcher in baseball right now. He has yet to allow an earned run in four road starts this season, spanning 25 innings of work. He tossed five shutout innings in his lone previous start against the Braves this season and owns a career 1.88 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 24 outings against them. By playing the first five innings only we'll avoid a Mets bullpen that has posted a collective 5.11 ERA and 1.48 WHIP on the road this season.

Ian Anderson has recorded a 3.29 ERA and 1.12 WHIP at night this season and has given up just three earned runs over his last two starts, spanning 11 1/3 innings of work. After struggling in his first two starts against the Mets he righted the ship last time out, tossing five shutout innings on June 21st. Here, we'll avoid involving a Braves bullpen that has converted just seven saves while blowing seven at home this season. Take the first five innings under (8*).

FREE PICK - Colorado Rockies +114
RATING: 30*

I will take my chances with the Rockies as a small home dog in Thursday's series opener against the Cardinals. I've made quite a bit of cash on Colorado at home this year, as they got one of the more drastic home/away splits I can remember.
The Rockies are 28-16 at home and just 6-31 on the road. They essentially play like a playoff team at Coors Field, but aren't priced like it because their road woes make their overall record look like they are a bottom feeder.
Not only do I look to take the Rockies at home, but I also like to fade St Louis starter Adam Wainwright on the road. Much like Colorado, Wainwright just isn't the same on the road as he is at home. He's got a 2.55 ERA in 10 home starts and a 6.31 ERA in 5 road starts. Give me the Rockies +114!

The Key: I like the price we are getting on the San Francisco Giants today as a short road favorite over the worst team in baseball in the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Giants won't be taking the Diamondbacks lightly after dropping 3 straight games coming in and having Wednesday off benefits them. They are still 50-29 on the season while the Diamondbacks are just 22-60. Johnny Cueto is having a great season at 6-3 with a 3.63 ERA in 12 starts this year. Cueto is 11-3 with a 3.21 ERA in 19 lifetime starts against the Diamondbacks. Merrill Kelly is 4-7 with a 4.73 ERA in 16 starts this year for Arizona. The Diamondbacks are 1-12 as a home dog of +125 or higher this year. Take San Francisco.

The Nationals are two games over .500 for the first time since they won the World Series back in 2019; playing their best baseball of the year right now. They’ve pounded out 32 runs while winning four straight; 14-3 in their last 17 ballgames overall. And Washington isn’t doing it against bottom feeders – they’ve beaten up on the Phillies, Mets, Rays and Giants during this span. Starter Patrick Corbin has been a quality start machine over the last two months and he’s got an excellent track record against this Dodgers lineup dating back to his tenure with the D-backs, holding current Dodgers to a .220 batting average and a .743 OPS in a decent 94 at-bat sample size. Live dog here! Take the Nationals.

Holiday had the big game one with 33 points, 10 assists and 4 rebounds, but since then he’s only had a total of 31 PRA, 22 PRA, and last game when Giannis went out 19 points, 9 assists, 5 rebounds. Holiday is 2-10 from three pointers the last 2 games, he doesn’t have more than 5 rebounds in any of the games this series, and without Giannis he now might struggle with assists. Giannis cutting to the basket with a head of steam is an easy assist for him, and now the Hawks defense doesn’t have to crash inside when Giannis gets the ball. I think Atlanta is going to be able to play a big tighter defense on the perimeter, and Holiday isn’t a premier shot created like Trae Young, Devin Booker…I think the lack of Giannis has a ripple effect and Holiday could be negatively affected.

The Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo has been ruled out of Game 5 vs Hawks tonight and after a stretch of six postseason games in which BogDog didn't score in double figures while playing on a bum knee the backcourt sharp-shooter broke out with 20 points in the Game 4 loss to the Bucks.

A healthy Bogdanovic tonight against a sagging Milwaukee perimeter defense tonight results in another 20-plus point performance for the former 1st-round draft pick of the Phoenix Suns.

Contrarian call in this game, to say the least, as we have the best team in the league versus the worst team. However, even the worst teams win 50+ games every season, so Arizona is due to correct, while the Giants have been overachieving all year. The loss of 1B Brandon Belt (3rd most HR's on team) last week has hurt this San Francisco offense, and the Giants are 0-3 in their past three games, and have scored 2 runs or less in four of their past five outings without Belt.

With the "Magic 8-Ball" a little murky as to the playing status and the productivity of Trae Young and now Giannis Antetokoumnpo hazy at best, I think the safest assumption for tonight's Game Five of this Eastern Conference Finals is to once again play the Under.

This series has seen each of the last 3 games land easily Under the total after a Game One Over.

The Hawks have now played 7 of their last 8 in the playoffs and 12 of their 16 games overall Under the total this postseason.

The Bucks are right there with the Hawks as they have held Under in 10 of their 15 playoff contests, including 8 of their last 11.

With Young dealing with a bone bruise on his ankle and Giannis listed as doubtful for this contest, those missing points will not be of any help for those Over players tonight at Fiserv Forum.

Game Five of this Atlanta-Milwaukee series goes the route of the previous 3 games in the books and that is Under the total.

My free pick tonight features an NBA player prop in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final between the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks.

The injuries are mounting in what has turned into the ugliest postseason I've seen in decades. Round after round, it's been injury after injury. Tonight we have Atlanta's Trae Young questionable and Milwaukee's Giannis Antetokounmpo doubtful.

It's now 1 pm eastern and the new injury report is due out in 30 minutes. I don't have time to wait for it, but I also don't care as the prop I like tonight is Bogdan Bogdanovic to go Over 3 1/2 3-pointers.

Bogdanovic came through in Game 4, looking like his normal self by contributing with 20 points in the Hawks' win. That included an outstanding 6-of-14 (.428) from 3-point range. The spurt snapped a six-game streak in which he had two or fewer 3s.

Make note, Bogdanovic had four or more 3-pointers over the final six regular-season games for Atlanta, so burying the trey is no foreign substance for this dude. And now, with newfound confidence, I think he'll step up whether Young plays or not, contributing once again.

Factor in that Milwaukee's paltry defense allowed more points from 3-land than any other team in the league, and I don't mind counting on BB making four 3s tonight.

2* OVER 3 1/2 Bogdanovic 3-pointers

It is hot versus hot tonight in Washington, D.C. as the Dodgers who just swept a quick pair of games against the Giants and have now won 5 in a row visit a Nationals team that has won 4 straight and 14 of their last 17 games overall.

I will admit while the price tonight on the surging Nationals as the home underdog is tempting, their starting pitcher Patrick Corbin is keeping me from backing them in this spot.

Corbin is only 5-6 on the season, but it is his 5.33 ERA that is raising the red flag for me tonight. That and the fact the southpaw is a career 5-10 with a 3.71 ERA in 20 career starts plus a pair of relief appearances against Los Angeles.

Tony Gonsolin has yet to work past the 4th inning in any of his starts this season as he continues to try and build up stamina in his pitching wing, but the Dodgers are 4-0 when he starts for the season and his ERA is just 2.77.

The Dodgers swept a 3 game series back in April at home off of the Nationals, including a 9-5 win in a game that Corbin started for the visitors.

Dodgers to draw first blood.

Let's play the Washington Nationals tonight, as they're catching a value price at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Washington left-hander Patrick Corbin has been better lately, producing consecutive quality starts in his last three trips to the hill. And when you dig deep to see how the Dodgers have struggled against lefties this season - they have a league-low .217 team batting average against southpaws - you have to believe this road trip could start off with a struggle.

Los Angeles hands the ball to right-hander Tony Gonsolin, who has looked good in four starts, but also hasn’t seen the fifth inning yet. With Washington’s lineup surging of late, I would think the Nationals will chase Gonsolin and move on to the Los Angeles bullpen en route to the win.

Let's make money with a home underdog.
