Al Cimaglia: Hoosier Park Late Pick 4 Analysis July 4, 2021 | By Al Cimaglia
Hoosier Park has a 12 race card ready to roll with the first post at 5:30 EST. The 0.50 Late Pick 4 kicks-off in Race 9, which is also the Hoosier Cup Pace for three-year-old colts and geldings with a $75,000 purse. That sequence will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on fast a track.

Race 9

2-Sadddle Up (10-1)-Has been driven aggressively and can get off the gate in quick fashion. This will be the 2nd time for Lasix and has hit the board in 8 of 10 here with 2 pictures. Had to rally when the rail opened up and just missed a 2nd place check but did skip a start. Using and looking for prices in this leg so will shoot against the program chalk #4.
3-JK's Champ (10-1)-Similar to #2, does good work racing near the top of the stack and Widger should have Champ in striking range at the head of the stretch. Had to come 1st over in last and raced gamely to the wire but wasn't going to catch the winner.
5-Joelsyy Hanover (9/2)-Won the Elim with Trace Tetrick steering and now Dunn takes a seat and that shouldn't hurt. Took a picture despite missing a start and could be sitting on another big try.
7-Virgo (3-1)-Rolled the back half in 52.4 to cruise home by 4 lengths in a sharp Elimination win. The Dylan barn is batting 21% over the last 30 days and Tetrick has options. Versatile 3-year-old can win on the engine or coming off cover.

Race 10

4-Swan In Motion (4-1)-Should be more effective with needed post relief and with this post draw becomes a threat at a fair price. Has hit the board in 23 of 30 HoP starts with 9 wins and Page is back for his 2nd tour of duty. Using and shooting against another morning line chalk #6.
7-May Baby (9/2)-This mare comes off a big try coming 1st up and was just nipped by #8 last week. Loves the track, hitting the board in 21 of 27 Hoosier starts and has 14 pictures. Looking for another strong effort and best to not overlook.
8-What A Swan (7/2)-Was used to get the top and then got a nice 2-hole trip but when able came with a strong brush up the pylons to win. The post makes the price and there isn't much gate speed inside so Tetrick should be able to work an effective trip.

Race 11

5-Sooo Handsome (4-1)-Team Plano entry is only 1-21 this year but this is a level where taking a picture could happen. Meets a smaller field, has enough gate speed to be put in play early and could trip out for an overdue victory.
6-Simply Swan (2-1)-Beaten odds-on favorite has burned a lot of cash in the last 4 starts. Should be a better price than 0.70 on a $1.00 and was off 3 weeks before the last race so will cut some slack. But no excuses allowed tonight and the short field doesn't hurt chances.

Race 12

3-Madelines Blk Jack (3-1)-Rolled the back half in 54.2 in last and that wasn't good enough to catch the top two. Fits with this crew, the previous race was on an off-track so looks like a player and might be overlooked at the windows.
7-T'S Raider II (7/2)-Beat 3 from this field with a sharp effort leaving from post 10. Won't be almost 12-1 this time but Tetrick should find some live cover and if there is an honest pace it could be picture time again.
9-JK Objection (8-1)-Runner-up in the last 2 starts with Bates steering and now David Miller takes the lines. Has the gate speed to get an upfront seat and could surprise. My guess is Miller might have a good reason to stick around until the last race of the night.

0.50 Late Pick 4

Jerry Shottenkirk: My Rainbow 6 Ticket Sunday at Pimlicoate July 4, 2021 | By Jerry Shottenkirk
Pimlico’s Sunday card includes a mandatory Rainbow 6 payoff (races 6-11) and nicely tucked into that sequence are four stakes races, and standing out the most is strong Steve Asmussen-trained duo that will get some heavy play.

There’s $1.4 million in the carryover kitty heading into the weekend’s activities, and there will be plenty more to target on Sunday.

Asmussen is bringing back to Baltimore the last two winners of the track’s Grade 3 Chick Lang Stakes -- Mighty Mischief and Yaupon. They’ve made for some happy times for Bill and Corinne Heligbrodt, and more should come today.

Mighty Mischief – probably odds-on in the Concern Stakes (eighth race) -- won the 2021 Chick Lang on May 21 and has taken three of his four career starts. The Heligbrodts bred the Into Mischief colt, and after narrowing losing his career debut at Oaklawn, he broke his maiden and won an allowance in Hot Springs and then cruised home over slightly favored local runner Jaxon Traveler. He’s already bankrolled $255,200, which is slightly more than the $225,000 stud fee for Into Mischief. It took only four trips to the track.

Two races later, Yaupon leads the pack postward in the Lite the Fuse Stakes and looks to get back to winning ways after a couple of non-Yaupon-like performances.

However, those losses came in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (won by Whitmore) and the Golden Shaheen in Dubai (won by Zenden, who broke down after the race and was euthanized), and he can be forgiven. He’s running for 100 grand, not millions, and is the one to beat.

Yaupon won the 2020 Chick Lang, which along with the rest of the Preakness Day card was moved to October due to the pandemic. He was 3-5 when he won the race and went off as the 6-5 favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint. Yaupon’s Chick Lang win was by four lengths, and that kind of performance in his only start over the Pimlico strip was memorable enough to make him a solid favorite in his return.

Here’s a look at the suggested 20-cent Rainbow Six ticket, which totals $72:

Race 6 (3:25 p.m. ET, optional claiming)

HUFFLEPUFF always gets well played, and the reason for it is that she’s almost always in the hunt. She has five consecutive second-place finishes, and two of those were by a neck.

The day will come for her second career win, and maybe this is it. Despite her good form, spreading out looks like a necessity here.
Also on the ticket: DEVILISH AFFAIR, BEHIND THE COUCH and DESPEIGHT ALL ODDS.

Race 7 (3:58 p.m. ET, Jameela Stakes)

INTRODUCED closed to fourth in the License Fee Stakes at Belmont two races back and was in a good spot for the Politely Stakes at Monmouth in a race that came off the turf and was contested in the slop. She’s won on off dirt-tracks as well as turf and has kept some decent company.

Her latest win came in the Smart N Fancy last August at Saratoga, and a similar effort would make her tough here. However, she’s got plenty of proven competition.

Also on the ticket: PAISLEY SINGING, SPUN GLASS.

Race 8 (4:31 p.m. ET, Concern Stakes)

MIGHTY MISCHIEF is on familiar footing today The only time he didn’t have the lead came at the very end of his debut. He hasn’t needed long, easy advantages, though, and has been pressed at some point in each of his three wins.

Regular pilot Ricardo Santana (also aboard Yaupon) is scheduled to ride and will get the lead along the rail. Passing him will be a monumental chore in this one.
Also on the ticket: None, he’s a single.

Race 9 (5:04 p.m. ET, Caesar’s Wish Stakes)

LANDING ZONE had a four-race win streak from August through October last year and hasn’t won in her last six races. She lands in a good spot to get back to top form and can be a big player on the front end.

This is the biggest spread race in the sequence, as there are plenty of others to like. There’s enough talent here to spread out the chips. Lots of talent solid runners, and this could go a number of ways.

Also on the ticket: ARTFUL SPLATTER, SWEET SAMI D, HIS GLORY, MRS. ORB.

Race 10 (5:37 p.m. ET, Lite the Fuse Stakes)

YAUPON has the cred to be the favorite, but he’ll get some early company and will have to dig in. He didn’t have a lot of fight in his last two, but those certainly can be forgiven (Breeders’ Cup Sprint, Golden Shaheen).

It’s a good day for him to get back to the winner’s circle, but he’ll have to work for it. CHATEAU is probably as quick as any horse he’s faced and will make the pace seriously fast.

Also on the ticket: CHATEAU.

Race 11 (6:05 p.m. ET, maiden claiming)

LEAVE ‘EM LOADED heads a group of maiden claimers in the last one and has been fairly close in his two races over the strip. He ran fourth for this price two races back and then improved to third last out. He can carve out a good trip and looms as a strong challenger to these.

A couple of others are worthy of consideration, but they’ll have to bring their best to deny him a maiden win. It’s not a gimme.
Also on the ticket: ONE MORE FACTOR, GLEAMING SWORD.

Pimlico Rainbow 6 on Sunday:

6) #2 Hufflepuff, #4 Devilish Affair, #5 Behind the Couch, #7 Despeight All Odds
7) #8 Introduced, #9 Paisley Singing, #12 Spun Glass
8) #1 Mighty Mischief.
9) #3 Artful Splatter, #4 Sweet Sami D, #5 His Glory, #7 Mrs. Orb, #8 Landing Zone.
10) #5 Chateau, #7 Yaupon.
11) #4 One More Factor, #8 Leave ‘Em Loaded, #10 Gleaming Sword
Pimlico 20-cent Rainbow Six (races 6-11): 2-4-5-7 with 8-9-12 with 1 with 3-4-5-7-8 with 5-7 with 4-8-10 ($72).

Ellis Park Race 6 - Post time: 3:10 CT
3-Our Lady Nelson (8-1)

Here’s a wide-open maiden special weight turf sprint for juvenile fillies that offers a chance for a nice price. The debuting Our Lady Nelson, from the first crop of the good sprinter Lord Nelson, displayed smooth action and excellent speed when previewing in :10 flat at the OBS March sale before bringing $95,000 through the ring. There’s nothing flashy about her local work tab, except for a bullet gate work (1:01.1bg, fastest of seven) last month, but we’ll assume she’s fit enough to show her best stuff. The two entrants with previous experience aren’t impressive so we’ll expect a newcomer will win and this J. Hancock-trained youngster may be capable of doing just that at an enticing 8-1 on the morning line.
*
*
Pleasanton Race 9 – Post time: 6:36 PT
1-Sunset Star (15-1)

The published morning line of 15-1 for Sunset Star is best ignored, as the overnight odds for this maiden sprint for fillies and mares appear to have been picked out of a hat. From a high-quality outfit and with a series of workouts that should have her fit and ready, this $120,000 Keeneland yearling purchase by Exaggerator appears well-spotted to graduate at first asking for the lethal trainer/jockey combo of B. Wright and A. Ayuso. The main concern is her rail post position, but if she can leave cleanly from the rail and avoid trouble she should be hard to beat. At whatever price she leaves at we’ll make her a win play and rolling exotic single.

Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks Arlington - Race #4

Picks
Notes

#2 Valiant Vinny
His stablemate will likely be favored here, but this guy should be able to control the tempo with this bunch. He might be able to handle the two-turn trip, and maybe he can stretch this group out a bit early.

#1 Richiesgotgame
He's in really good form and does better work here than his stablemate has so far, and he should be in line for a great trip tracking the top choice.

#3 Maresonofagun
He has some tactical pace and won his only local start on the main track, and he might be able to sit with the chalk in the early going. He's an interesting enough alternative.

Race Summary
Valiant Vinny and Richiesgotgame both go for the top barn, and Valiant Vinny is the 'other' Rivelli in this spot. His sprint pace should afford him a solo lead on the move to two turns at a better number than Richiesgotgame will offer.

Arlington - Race #6

Picks
Notes

#8 Omar Attack
Price chance from the high draw with a couple of pretty sharp pace players drawn further inside, and maybe with the right trip and setup he can make some noise late at a big number. Hoping all the speed gets into it.

#2 Chinobe
Nothing to argue about with his two career turf tries -- two wins by a combined 10+ lengths. He has sharp pace and will try to shake off and discourage the other forward players.

#2 Never Have I Ever
Rail speed does have some mild rating ability, and he may end up working out a good trip from the pocket if they don't want to go from the fence with Chinobe and Mark of the Z.

Race Summary
Omar Attack should be a solid price with this group, but he could be rolling late if a trio of speed players all want in from the start.

Arlington - Race #8

Picks
Notes

#8 Missen the Point
She hasn't shown much in a couple of tries with better, but she'll get turf and two turns for the first time today with a pedigree to suggest she'll handle both. Sharp work ahead of this adds appeal.

#4 Mama Lou
She woke up a bit when trying MCL company with blinkers in that last one, and she'll move to the turf for this local debut. Tactical type looks like a good fit here.

#2 Perfect Diva
She caught a chalky 19-length winner in that last start, and she still has a little upside here as she has never been in for a tag. Small concern about the race flow.

Race Summary
Missen the Point brings a solid work with her to this turf route debut, and the class drop gives her even more room to move forward. The barn is better here than their slow start indicates.

#2 Elusive Molly
Comes in off a victory and can get a perfect stalking trip and looms as the one to hold off.

#1 Perspire
Has speed and a inside post, and she'll be a factor from the start; she can stay for a major slice of it.

#4 Merseyside
Was third in a stakes race then followed with a fourth at this level; her best races make her a contender.

Race Summary
Elusive Molly has changed running styles and is now capable of passing horses; can be a force late in the game.

# 1 RIGGED TO RUN 7/2

# 3 RIG RIDER 8/1

# 6 THE LIDS OFF 8/1

RIGGED TO RUN looks strong to best this field. By Right Rigger, has a clear advantage in the bloodlines - brothers and sisters have raced soundly as two-year olds. The Lasix change (with second time Lasix) may spark a turnaround for this filly. With Purcell getting the mount, watch out for this equine. RIG RIDER - In a two-year old contest if you see the name Right Rigger in the sire line you know you have a key contender. Wagerers should probably feel comfortable with this selection given Coates's recent profits at the window. THE LIDS OFF - Cannot be ignored - Barton is a solid trainer with the babies, winning 22 of his races. Barton has shown excellent profits (+65 return on investment ) with horses in dirt sprint events.

#8 FORT HOPE (ML=8/1)
#1 MAGIC MOUNTAIN (ML=3/1)

FORT HOPE - After the race aboard this horse on June 20th, the jock is going to 'know' the gelding much better. Bahen and Howard perform well when they unite. It's hard to beat a +67 ROI for a jock and handler. This gelding finished well ahead of the third horse on Jun 20th. Those horses tend to run well next time out. This gelding is in first-rate form right now. Finished second last time around the track and comes back soon. MAGIC MOUNTAIN - Jockey jumped on this gelding's back for the first try on Jun 13th. Should be in touch with the animal even better this time around. This gelding is in good physical condition. Ran third on Jun 13th.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 WORKING THE TABLE (ML=5/2), #7 LORD OF LEGENDS (ML=7/2), #4 JOCULARITY (ML=8/1),

WORKING THE TABLE - Tough to take this less than sharp equine at the price after the finish (eighth) in the last affair. LORD OF LEGENDS - Not easy to wager on this questionable contender this time out. Make him show you something in a short distance race before you wager on him in a race of 5 furlongs. Hard to play at 7/2 odds after the last two efforts. This gelding garnered a speed fig in his last affair which likely isn't good enough in today's event. JOCULARITY - Looked like he was in good form on Jun 13th. Hasn't been near the track since then though. Not a positive sign.

BEATUBYACHUBINOSE is the top bet in this race. Is a contender - given the 78 speed figure from her most recent race. Facing a much easier field than last time out. The trainer wheels this one right back to race again. POSTINO'S IDOL - Has quite good speed figures and has to be considered for a bet for this event. Could best this group of horses based on the speed rating - 82 - of her last affair. JOY'S PRIDE - Ran a solid last race.

#3 STARSHIP TAXI (ML=8/1)
#6 SEA TRIDENT (ML=15/1)

STARSHIP TAXI - The ROI when Reyes and Morici get together is out of sight. SEA TRIDENT - I have to figure Jackson is making a good move here. This gelding can only benefit from the shorter trip. Looking at today's class rating, this thoroughbred is meeting an easier group than in the last race at Gulfstream Park.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 TIMEWON'TLETMEGO (ML=9/5), #8 RICKI TICKI TAFFI (ML=3/1), #4 ONE TURN JOHNNY (ML=4/1),

TIMEWON'TLETMEGO - He's most likely going to get cooked on the top end. You should normally bet against low-odds horses that haven't raced or show no activity in the morning over the last three weeks. When looking at today's class figure, he will have to notch a much better speed fig than in the last race to be competitive in this dirt sprint. RICKI TICKI TAFFI - Pace is so significant, and this speedy one is going to have a ding-dong battle on his hands. ONE TURN JOHNNY - The finish position of fourth in the last affair shows me that this equine may be getting out of condition.
