Schoenthal-trained juvenile recorded a bullet five furlong 1:00b drill seven days ago to have her on edge, so at 4-1 on the morning line she’ll offer good wagering value in the win pool and as a rolling exotic single.

From the first crop of the outstanding turf miler Midnight Storm, this quick colt breezed a furlong in 9 4/5 seconds (fastest for the distance in the preview session) at the OBS April Sale before bringing $310,000 through the ring. His recent work tab also has been very impressive for the high-percentage B. Cox barn, so with one of the stable’s “go-to” riders F. Geroux taking the call this excellent prospect appears ready to graduate at first asking in this five and one-half grass dash for 2-year-olds. He’s 3-1 on the morning line and we’ll take it if we can get it.

This son of Speightstown displayed promise during a brief juvenile campaign with his best effort being a sharp runner-up effort sprinting on grass last September at Churchill Downs. Adding Lasix for the first time, the A. Stall, Jr.-trained colt returns off a nine month layoff under conditions that suit him perfectly, so with a solid series of workouts that should have him fit and ready in a field that appears to be below average for older maiden special weight company let’s take advantage of his 5-1 morning line both as a win play and as a rolling exotic single.

Ellis Park Race 8 – Post time: 4:10 CT
11-Summer Store (12-1)

Was given a very easy run in her debut last month at Churchill Downs, lagging most of the way before being allowed to finish on her own courage to wind up a willing sixth behind a runaway winner and then galloping out with interest past the wire. With that educational outing behind her, the daughter of Summer Front should be much more serious in this middle distance maiden turf affair for fillies and mares. A recent half mile main track workout (47 2/5 seconds, third fastest of 38) is another indication that a forward move is likely, so with C. J. Lanerie riding her back for I. Wilkes and at 12-1 on the morning line we’ll play her enthusiastically in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics.

Dropper has been in with better for quite some time and has a right to be a handful with this kind of group, but he still hasn't gotten back to the form he showed when running out of the Dilodovico barn. Capable underlay.


#4 West Virginia Pam
She was solid here earlier this year when facing this kind of company, and perhaps she can bounce back at a square price after a couple of dull runs with allowance company.


Race Summary
Diamond Train should be a playable price on the board, and occasionally brings some of the better finishing form in this spot. I'll give him a go at anything double digits.

Taking another price chance in this spot with a guy who is not that far removed from the kinds of races that might win this, and maybe he can bounce back off a really flat finish last out.

That last one was razor sharp, but it was also a total exception to his form. He ended up on a big lead and easily held, but I'm not sure I'd trust him to run right back to that effort here.


#7 Buff's Eye View
He's probably a little bit better going a third turn here, but he's a pretty reliable finisher who can rally for a share here.


Race Summary
Final Say goes for a top barn while in iffy form, but he's clearly capable of being competitive with these if he brings one of his better efforts. Rebound price chance.

#6 Power Sonde
She finished ahead of the top pair in that common race, but she's probably a bit overbet compared to those two and hasn't shown a real final gear in the lane yet.

Global Empress has some upside in this second trip to post, and she might be quick enough to get herself in the mix early in a race that doesn't have a ton of pace signed on.

With better than average trips to the winner's circle, Beato will most likely have this gelding in excellent position to win the race. Got to like a animal who can make up a ton of ground in the stretch. This gelding came flying late sprinting last time out and should relish the longer distance of today's race. Dropping 6 pounds from last race. Could be a deciding factor today. MARKET CAP - This colt notched a good rating of 87 in his last affair. That rating should be high enough to prove victorious in today's event. The ROI when Hiraldo and O'Dwyer get together is outstanding. Getting a break of 7 pounds from last race at Pimlico. He should make the most of this advantage. INK - Nice win percentage this rider and trainer tandem have been putting together. I think this gelding is coming into top form. The Boston Red Sox won the World Series in 2018 but missed the postseason in 2019 and then in 2020's pandemic-shortened season, went 24-36 to finished last in the AL East. Not much was expected of Boston entering 2021 and when the Red Sox opened the current season by getting swept in a three-game series at Fenway (outscored 18-5) by the sad-sack Orioles, Boston fans we thinking, "the season is already over." However, Boston immediately won NIINE in a row and the Red Sox have been in a 'fight' the entire first half with the defending AL Champs (TB Rays) for first-place in the AL East. The Red Sox ripped off 10 wins in 11 games from June 25 through July 5th but do enter this series off back-to-back losses to the LA Angels. However, the 54-34 Red Sox are currently tied with the Astros for the AL's best record and sit 2 1/2-games up on the Rays in the division.
The Philadelphia Phillies came into the current season having missed the playoffs the last NINE seasons, without a SINGLE winning season in that span. The Phils are a modest 42-43 as they open this three-game series at Fenway (All Star break begins Monday) but fortunately, they play in MLB's weakest division, the NL East. The 45-38 Mets are the ONLY team in the division with a winning record, so Philadelphia's sub-.500 still has them within four games of first place. There we be NO wild card berths coming out of the NL East this season (back to just two wild cards in the NL for 2021), so it's "first place or bust" for the Phillies in 2021.
The starting pitchers for Friday's series opener are Vince Velasquez (3-3, 4.50 ERA) of Philadelphia and Garrett Richards (4-5, 4.88 ERA) of Boston. This marks Velasquez's seventh season, the last six with the Phillies. He's made 148 career appearances (119 starts), going 31-38 with a 4.70 ERA and 1.37 WHIP. That pretty much mirrors what he's done in 2021, as he's made 17 appearances (13 starts) in going 3-3 with a 4.50 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. This marks his NINTH consecutive start but he's coming of one of his worst starts of the season. He surrendered five ERs, his second most in any start this season, while allowing a season-high nine hits, with three walks and four strikeouts over six innings of an 11-1 loss at San Diego last Sunday.
Garrett Richards spent his first eight season with the Angels, 2019 and 2020 with the Padres and 2021 is his first with Boston His 13-4 (2.61 ERA) season of 2014 is a long-forgotten occurrence. He's made 204 career appearances (145 starts) going 51-46 with a 3.75 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. It's been an up and down season for Richards, although after a stretch of four straight starts in which he allowed four or more runs, he lasted five-plus innings in allowing just two runs (Boston lost 7-6 in 12 innings but he kept them competitive).
Boston is sure hoping to close the first half of the season on a winning note and the Red Sox are 27-17 at Fenway, while the Phillies come to town 18-27 on the road. Then there is the fact that if these teams were in the same division, Boston would lead Philadelphia by 10 1/2-games. Neither starter can be counted on but Boston is clearly the better and is at home at a MORE than reasonable price. Enough said!

I'll take my chances here with Cincinnati at basically even money in Friday's road game at Milwaukee. I just think with the way the Brewers are struggling offensively right now and how well the Reds are playing (won 6 of 7 going into Thursday), Cincinnati is in prime position to secure a win in this one.
Wade Miley will get the ball for the Reds and he's had a great 2021 season. While he's only 6-4, he has a very strong 3.06 ERA and 1.155 WHIP in 15 starts. Eric Lauer will start for the Brewers. Friday MLB Free play. My selection is on the 'over' between Cincinnati and Milwaukee at 8:10 pm et on Friday.
We saw a relatively low-scoring affair in the opener of this series last night but I look for a different story to unfold on Friday.
Wade Miley will get the start for Cincinnati. He's having another fine season but I suspect we could see him run into some trouble here, noting that he'll be pitching on just four days' rest for the fourth time in his last five turns in the rotation. Consider he's worked at least six innings in each of his last five outings (and into the seventh inning in four of those). Note that he's allowed 18 hits and six earned runs over his last two starts alone, covering a span of 12 2/3 innings.
Should Miley struggle, we could see plenty of a Reds bullpen that has posted a 5.21 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in night games this season (entering last night's action). We're talking about an overworked 'pen that hasn't had a day off since June 23rd.
Eric Lauer will counter for Milwaukee. The Reds seem to have figured him out going back to the start of last season, knocking him around for 10 hits and 10 earned runs while drawing seven walks and striking out only five times in two games spanning just eight innings against him. Lauer checks in with a less than impressive 4.50 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in five home starts this season. While he has held his own in his last two outings, both of those were favorable situations, at home against Colorado and on the road in Pittsburgh. Prior to that he had allowed 14 earned runs in 12 innings during a three-start stretch.
The Brewers bullpen has been serviceable here at home this season, but certainly not great, posting a collective 4.23 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Take the over (8*).

Friday night comp play in the N.L. West on the Padres to rough up the Rockies in their series opener from Petco Park.

Colorado was able to "salvage" their 3 games set last night in Arizona, as the Rockies notched only their 7th road win of the entire season against the Diamondbacks.

Colorado enters this series opener at 7-33 away from Denver, while San Diego is 32-17 on their home diamond this season.

The Padres are thinking "payback" as they actually lost ALL 3 to the Rockies back in the middle of June at Coors Field.

San Diego did win the previous 3 game set in their home park back in the middle of May and they should welcome this series after splitting 4 games against the surging Washington Nationals earlier this week.

The pitching matchup is not that important to me, as the track record spelled out this season by Colorado when they are on the road speaks volumes.

I'm going to play San Diego Padres star Fernando TatÃ*s Jr. over 1/2 an RBI against the Colorado Rockies, as he's had some success against his team's N.L. West rival.

Obviously, his highest rate of runs batted in have come against West-division foes, but TatÃ*s' 19 RBI against Colorado, in 24 games, run second to the 26 he has against Arizona in 26 games.

TatÃ*s is hitting .357 lifetime against the Rockies, his second-highest average against an opponent he's played at least 10 games.

This year, TatÃ*s has already hit three home runs, and has six RBI against the Rockies, in just four games. And after the way the team performed last night in coming from behind against the Nationals, erasing an 8-0 deficit to win 9-8, I think we should see at least one RBI from the Padres' star.

Friday night in baseball lay the road wood with the White Sox as they look to get healthy in Baltimore against the Orioles.

Chicago has shook off their recent 3 game slide with wins in their last pair of games in Minnesota in which their pitching staff only let up 2 runs in the pair of wins.

Now the Pale Hose face an Orioles team they have already swept 4 off of in the month of May in the Windy City. In that series the Sox outscored the O's, 18-7 as they held Baltimore to one run in 3 of the 4 wins.

Baltimore's latest losing run is 4 of their last 5 and tonight's starter Jorge Lopez stands at just 2-11 on the year while the team is 4-13 when he starts.

Dallas Keuchel is 0-2 over his last 4 starts, but this looks like the spot he gets back to his winning ways. Keuchel beat the O's back on May 29th and he will beat them again tonight.
