Analysis:
Oddsmakers making the case for Minnesota here. The Rays are on fire, the Twins are 16 games below .500, and yet it's Minnesota that's favored and not even all that cheap. I'm more about matchups than interpreting the betting line, but this one is pretty clear. That doesn't mean it's an automatic winner by any means, but when I see one that fits as this much of an outlier, it sure gets my attention. And in this case, it's supported by a definite mound edge with Kenta Maeda facing Michael Wacha. The OPS comparison is telling. Maeda is .066 better on the season, and .277 better when factoring in the home/road splits. Recent form also points Maeda's way as Wacha is off two very poor starts. With the starting pitcher advantage and the line being where it is, I'm backing Minnesota to win the F5 tonight.

We roll with Kansas City here as they hook up against St. Louis. I know it can be a bit scary to back Brad Keller but we will do it here as mind you, you have a guy here who just rocked by St. Louis but who also had a sub 3 era last year. This is a Kansas City team here who I believe is favored for a reason and I think the Cardinals are frankly playing over their heads. With Lester struggling in general and with Keller having faced American League lineups throughout, I think it makes sense here to take AL pitcher on the bounce-back here. Lester also did not give up a HR in his last game and I think he likely struggles today and definitely gives up a homerun today. Lester has given up 14 runs in 15 innings, and 18 hits, and 5 walks in his last 2 starts for 23 baserunners in 15 innings, let's roll with Kansas City to do well as this is the same Keller that has decent potential and even held Chicago to 1 run in 7 innings on the bounce-back. Hence, go Royals.

Nor has new coach Urban Meyer called a play in the pros. If this were a regular season meeting, the Super Bowl-minded Browns would be clear favorites over a team just trying to win a game. Cleveland does have a pair of starters on the mend from injury, but so what? DE Myles Garrett and CB Denzel Ward would have been limited regardless. The Browns are eighth on the Super Bowl champion odds board in part because of depth. The Jags can be found near the bottom, even with the irrational exuberance surrounding the boy wonder Lawrence
