ANALYSIS: I realize both these teams were awful defensively last year, especially Ole Miss. However, this total is crazy and the biggest reason I am going Under is that the Rebs will be without head coach Lane Kiffin. Now, I think Kiffin is more important to Ole Miss than Nick Saban is to Alabama. Before Tide fans lose their minds, let me explain: Kiffin is his team's offensive play-caller. Saban doesn't call plays. Thus, we have to downgrade the Ole Miss offense a bit. And I actually think its defense will be better with nine starters back. This should end something like 40-30 so we're going Under (I'm not playing the spread).

ANALYSIS: Few coaches in college football exercise a greater in-game influence than Lane Kiffin of Ole Miss. He is all about offense, and he dives deeply into the play-calling. Now that he has been scratched because of COVID-19, the role transfers to an assistant from whom the players are unaccustomed to taking directions. The total that was a tad too high to begin with is unlikely to be reached. Both defenses should be improved over a year ago, which admittedly isn’t saying much, but the Rebels’ previous final score was 26-20, perhaps a harbinger for this season. The Cardinals even recorded a shutout of Syracuse in their ninth game last year.

While Ole Miss' offense, led by coach Lane Kiffin, quarterback Matt Corral and running back Jerrion Ealy, will cruise up and down the field, the Rebels' defense will show signs of life for the first time in two years. With that said, a few stops on the Cardinals will go a long way toward putting this one in the win column for the Rebs. This one feels more like a 45-24 style game rather than "basketball on grass."

This non-division series is huge for both teams. The Dodgers own the first NL Wild Card spot and only trail the first place Giants by 1-game in the NL West. Meanwhile, the Cardinals are just 3-games back of the second NL Wild Card spot. In this late afternoon series opener, Los Angeles hands the ball to ace Max Scherzer (12-4, 2.40 ERA) and St. Louis counters with righty Miles Mikolas (0-1, 4.41 ERA). This line opened with the Dodgers listed as a -190 road favorite and the Cardinals a 175 home dog. Sharps aren't scared off by the expensive price and are happy to back Scherzer and the Dodgers, steaming Los Angeles up from -190 to -205. Non-division favorites receiving 10-cents of steam or more are 272-176 (60.7%) this season. Big favorites -200 or more are 209-86 (70.8%). Los Angeles also has value as a big favorite with a low total (8). 6:10 p.m. ET: Minnesota Twins (59-77) at Cleveland Indians (68-66)

Both of these AL Central rivals are well out of playoff contention. Cleveland trails the second Wild Card spot by 8.5-games while the Twins own the third-worst record in the American League. In tonight's series opener, Minnesota hands the ball to righty Bailey Ober (2-2. 3.98 ERA) and Cleveland counters with lefty Logan Allen (1-5, 6.62 ERA). This line opened with the Twins listed as a short -110 road favorite and the Indians a 100 home dog. The public can't believe they're getting plus money with Cleveland, who is at home and owns a better won-loss record. However, pros seem to be targeting the Twins as we've seen Minnesota get steamed up from -110 to -127. Teams receiving 15-cents of steam or more coming off a win are 233-157 (59.7%) this season. Short road favorites -150 or less coming off a win are 154-100 (60.6%). Minnesota matches both systems as they just beat the Rays 6-5 on Sunday as big 200 road dogs. We could be looking at a higher scoring game in this one. The Twins are 7-5 against the Indians. The total is 9 with the over juiced to -155, signaling a possible rise to 9.5. Both teams have been profitable to the over this season, with Minnesota 76-52 to the over and Cleveland 71-58 to the over. The over is 8-3 in the last 11 matchups between these teams.

ANALYSIS: I don't have much faith in Mets starter Trevor Williams, although he has been decent since the trade from the Cubs, but absolutely none in Nats starter Patrick Corbin, he of the 6.26 overall ERA and 6.11 at home. Since the start of July, Washington has won just two of his outings. The Mets are duly motivated and rolling. They can't afford to lose games like this.

The Reds, meanwhile, have lost six of eight and are sitting noted Cub-killer Joey Votto today. With Jesse Winker still on the IL, that's a very watered-down lineup. Thus, I'll take the shot on the Cubs RL at -125. Chicago starter Justin Steele comes off his best outing of the year.

ANALYSIS: I was watching Baseball Tonight on Sunday evening, and Buck Showalter said he thought the Yankees losing two of three over the weekend at home to the sorry Orioles might be a perfect wake-up call to snap the Bombers out of their funk. I guess I will take him at his word. The Blue Jays mauled the A's over the weekend, but Toronto has hit much worse away from home in 2021. NYY starter Jameson Taillon is 5-1 with a 3.36 ERA at home. Toronto's Hyun Jin Ryu has a 4.46 ERA during the day and was very hit-or-miss in six August starts overall. The Jays are 1-6 in their past seven as dogs. You won't get the Yanks this low at home often and there's not much value taking Toronto on the RL.

ANALYSIS: The Orioles are going with a bullpen game today starting with lefty Zac Lowther. The Royals are starting Kris Bubic and he has been very hit or miss. The Royals are actually 12-8 in the past 3 weeks and 7-3 on the road while the Orioles are 5-14 in the same time span. The Os bullpen is the worst in the league and the Royals have been playing well lately. Take the value in the Royals. I am not sure why the Os lineup still isn't out 30 minutes before the game but that's never good for that team. Either way, I would take this line with a normal Os lineup so I will still make this play anyway.

The Indians have been much better at home while the Twins have struggled on the road. The Indians are 11-7 in the past 3 weeks and 6-3 at home while the Twins are 7-11 and 3-7 on the road in the same timeframe. Jose Ramirez should be back in the lineup after an off day yesterday and the Twins only have 27 road wins all season. Take the home dogs.

We did lose on the Rockies +1.5 at home on Sunday vs. Atlanta but it still has proven hugely profitable this season. Rox lefty Kyle Freeland pitched in San Francisco last month and won, allowing a run over six. SF has lost the past two starts of Kevin Gausman. Colorado is 15-5 in its past 20 after scoring two or fewer runs in its previous game.
