Jokisch is one of the best SPs in Korea and he faces the worst lineup and the worst bullpen in the league. I was tempted to lay 0.5 or 1.5 to get -120 and make it a paid play but Kiwoom does not hit well vs Im Gi Yeong and I think the score might be low. Kia's bullpen should be their undoing like it was on my 4% winner yesterday.

Tonight, New York bred two-and-three-year-old trotters and pacers are the headliners at Yonkers Raceway as they will be competing in Sire Stakes Finals. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 begins in Race 7, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 7

5-Test Of Faith (1/1)-This Pelling trainee is a perfect 5 of 5 at Yonkers and 7 of 8 on the year. The only loss came from post 11 at the Big M and that was by a neck. It would take an off night or a brutal trip for this filly to be defeated and my take is neither will happen.

Race 8

4-Ambassador Hanover (5-1)-Using and will forgive the last sub-par effort at VD. Looking for an aggressive steer and could try to get on the engine and not look back. Has hit the board in 4 of 5 starts here and has taken 2 pictures.
6-Ahundreddollarbill (2-1)-Beaten odds-on favorite lost to #7 Balenciaga at Tioga on 8-21. Now back on the 1/2 at Yonkers and should be tough to beat. Has hit the board in 3 of 5 starts here with 2 pictures. Looks to be a short price and AMac should have in play early in the mile.

Race 9

1-Southwind Petyr (7/2)-Mark Harder 3-year-old may make the most of drawing the rail. Dunn is between the pipes, and he knows well. This is a competitive leg and Petyr is one of a few who could take a picture.
2-I'll Drink To That (4-1)-Winner in 4 of 12 this year should be in the hunt with this crew. Comes off a win at Tioga and Miller steered then and will be back aboard tonight. Is 0-5 here but this will be the 1st time for Miller at Yonkers this year.
4-Town Gossip (7/5)-Morning line chalk has been in sharp form in the last 6 starts. Has hit the board in 7 of 8 at YR with 2 pictures. The Jenn B entry could cash the top check if leading turning for the wire but may need to work hard to get the top.
6-Natameri (7-1)-Winner in 2 of the last 3 and that was with Kakaley steering. Using although the 7-1 morning line looks generous. Could win without getting the top early in the mile.

Race 10

5-Melady's Monet (3-1)-This 12-year-old still cranks it up and cashes checks on a regular basis. Winner of over $178,000 this year has won 51 out 152 at YR. Should be close to the lead throughout and best to not overlook.
6-It's Academic (7/2)-Beaten odds-on chalk faded in its 1st Yonkers start but still finished 2nd. Regular pilot Gingras steers this time and comes back in 7-days instead of 19. Should be better in the 2nd start over the surface and should also be a better price.
7-Guardian Angel As (5-1)-Offers value at the morning line and has won 7 of 13 at YR. Beat the 2 above last week and has won 4 of 6 since using Lasix. Kakaley should get the 7-year-old off the gate and looks like a major player even from this post.

Juvenile filly makes her racing debut in a seven and one-half furlong maiden turf event in which the known element doesn’t impress. Purchased for $90,000 at the OBS June sale, where she looked quite nice when previewing in :10 flat, the Mark Casse-trained daughter of Violence shows a steady, healthy series of recent Palm Meadows workouts to have her fit for a major effort first crack out of the box. This trainer-jockey team has been on fire, so at 7/2 on the morning line she’s worth a play in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics.

5 – Her Perfect Vision (5/2)

She’s been burning up the track at Golden Gate Fields while preparing for her racing debut, so much so that trainer Jonathan Wong vans her down to Southern California to take advantage of the more lucrative purse and Cal-bred owners premium awards for this abbreviated sprint for juvenile fillies. By the promising freshman stallion Stanford, the Tommy Town Thoroughbreds homebred attracts the barn’s “go to” rider A. Cedillo, so we’re expecting a winning effort while hoping to get close to her morning line of 5/2.

Breezing in company outside Hellman (4f, :51.3b TT TC DU) and looked quite good to prove clearly best without ever being asked, sharp and eager to the wire. New York-bred juvenile filly by Majestic City ran very well sprinting on grass in her debut and seems sure to improve with experience and distance.

Lightly-raced gelding has been freshened since April but appeared perked up and ready to resume his career in this solo five furlong drill, never really asked at any stage and finishing with plenty left, final three furlongs in :11.2 and :36.1. Has all of his conditions available (including a first-level Cal-bred event) and should make the entries early in the Santa Anita fall season.

Worked inside Flame McGoon (4f, :48.1h) and was clearly best while breezing to the wire in sharp style, final three furlongs in :36.1, displaying smooth action and galloping out with a ton left. Form isn’t much but this First Samurai gelding must be better than shown. Have to think he can handle soft maidens next time out.

In company outside Walking Boss (5f, 1:01.4h) and was noticeably the better of the two, breaking off a length behind and finishing almost a length in front at the wire, mostly on her own, splits of :25 flat, :36.4 and 1:01.2. Getting fit, bred for grass and probably will debut on the lawn at Santa Anita. Willing and eager for M. Puype.

Cairo Prince juvenile filly has yet to start but shouldn’t be far away based on this team drill around dogs on grass with Longest Day (4f, :52.3b, TT TC DU), breaking off almost three lengths behind and then moving up easily through the lane to be head-and-head at the wire. Has a nice, athletic stride, moves like she’ll enjoy a distance of ground. Pointing for the fall season at Belmont Park.

This was just her second recorded workout, but she appeared reasonably fit and with a good degree of ability. Probably be seen in the afternoon sometime in early October, we would guess.

War Front colt wore blinkers and was breezing inside the hard held Lane Way (4f, :47.3h), splits of :23.3 and :47.1 to the wire before continuing out to 7/8 pole under very light coaxing in :59.4, strong work while getting cranked up. Been away since finishing second in the Cecil B. DeMille Stakes last November, has all of his conditions and probably can be effective on any surface.

Has speed but displayed nice action and should be more than just a sprinter. Daughter of Flatter looks to be a 2-year-old with a bit of quality and may get ready pretty quickly.

Broke off a length in front of Classic Legend (4f, :48.4b TT TC DU) and easily opened up on that one at will without being asked through the lane, nice stride on what surely will prove to be his preferred surface for Casse. Showed ability in debut when rallying to finish third in dirt sprint and seems certain to improve going long on the lawn.

Irish import broke her maiden in her fourth career start in June and arrives fit, ready, and appearing much better than the form would show. Has first level allowance conditions.

In blinkers, in team gate drill outside Marco Polo (5f, :59.2hg) for B. Baffert and proved best by a length in the late stages of the drill while responding to some mild coaxing, splits of :34.4, :47 flat and :59.1, smart drill while gearing up for his debut. Juvenile colt by Bernardini doesn’t act like a quick sprinter but definitely can run and probably will prove best as the distances increase. Should be fit enough by now.


LIBERTY M D – (I. Wilkes) – August 14, Saratoga, 5f, 1:00.2b

He finished behind the top pair last out, but he's probably not totally exposed after just two starts, so there is some hope at what may be an underlaid price.


Race Summary
Champster needs to back that last one up, but he took a huge step in the right direction when stretched around two turns for the first time, and another small step forward in his second two-turn try might be enough to get him home.

They took a long time to get this guy back to the races, and he showed some tracking speed before fading late in a race that a horse at this level almost has to need off the bench. Stays better here?


Race Summary
Maletta and Honey Saver should be quick enough to do sit up top early while Unleash Me tracks the action, but Maletta might offer a playable price should be good for a thrill heading into the far turn.

She's a logical alternative if you think the chalk is vulnerable here, as she is quick enough to stay in touch with a soft pace, and she has run some of her better races at these longer trips.


#5 Bottle Courage
She had some chances at this level in the past and didn't capitalize, and she's now making her 19th lifetime start after comin home a total of 47 lengths behind in her last two starts combined. Logical enough in a bad race, but she's not for me.

EUROMANTIC - Faces state bred foes today after finishing sixth versus 'open' company on August 10th. This jockey/conditioner duo has been producing a very favorable ROI, right at +81. POMEROY HAZE - State bred races are generally easier than 'open' company, and this gelding's move into the 'state bred' class today should make him tough in here. That last outing must not have been too hard on this gelding for him to be able to race again so quickly. This gelding is in excellent form right now. Ended up second in the last race and comes back quickly. This gelding should be at the peak of fitness, this far into his form cycle. The improved speed ratings over the last 3 races is great. Gustafson drops him in this affair ready to go.

GREAT FACES - This gelding hasn't had any recent success in short distance races. No picnic to bet on him in this event. OKIE STANDARD - I don't see this questionable contender doing too much off of the extended vacation. He probably needs a start or two to get back into shape. The speed fig in the last race doesn't fit very well in this race when I look at the class figure of today's race. Mark this racer as a questionable contender. D TOZ - No value in throwing a few bucks at this questionable contender. Probably won't improve off that September 3rd race.

DULVERTON is my choice. Sinnefia has one of the best winning percentages in this group with entries running at this distance and surface. Has run solidly when racing a dirt sprint race. COMMUNICATION FAIL - Seems to have a solid class edge based on the recent company kept. Recent figs for the rider - 28 win percent - make this gelding stand out in this group. CAYMAN ISLAND - Ought to be considered a solid contender on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone. This gelding has a good win percent in dirt sprint races.

WE'VE HAD ENOUGH - Don't often see a profitable return on investment like +606. This jock/trainer twosome has done well together over the last twelve months. Trying to win for the 1st time moving from a grass race to the dirt. I think Squires will have her fit for today's race. SASSYWITHATTITUDE - Earnings per start is something that I believe can be a very valuable handicapping aspect. This mount is ranked at the top of the list in this group. THANKS LAURA - This rider and conditioner have a high win percentage together. This filly is in good physical condition. Ended up second on August 21st. This filly recorded a nice speed rating of 65 in her last event. That speed fig should be good enough to win this time.

Both of tonight's starting pitchers are capable with Trevor Rogers having recorded a 1.09 WHIP in 11 road starts this season for the Marlins and Ian Anderson of the Braves having posted a 1.11 WHIP in nine home outings. The 76-64 Seattle Mariners are currently in a five-team 'scramble' for the AL's two wild card spots. Seattle rallied for an 8-5 victory at Houston on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday traveled back to Seattle for a three-game interleague series against the 49-95 Arizona Diamondbacks, who were swept in a three-game series at home by the Mariners last weekend. The Diamondbacks have lost 10 of their last 11 games and are on pace to finish 52-110, which would be the second-worst mark in franchise history behind the 51-111 squad from 2004.
Taking the mound on Friday will be Madison Bumgarner (7-9, 4.52 ERA) for Arizona and Marco Gonzales (7-5, 4.25 ERA) for Seattle. Bumgarner was part of a San Francisco starting rotation that helped the Giants win World Series crowns in 2010, 2012 and 2014. His 2014 postseason was legendary, as he made seven appearances (six starts), with an ERA of 1.03 over 52.2 innings with a KW ratio of 45-6. He was named the 2014 World Series MVP, finishing the series with a 2–0 record and an 0.43 ERA (one ER allowed over 21 innings). However, his last good season was back in 2016, when he went 15-9 with a 2.74 ERA. He was just 19-25 with San Francisco from 2017-19 and then signed as a FA with Arizona in 2020. He made nine starts in 2020, going 1-4 with a 6.48 ERA (team was 3-6). He's shown brief flashes of his old self this season but overall, his struggles have continued. He enters this contest 0-2 (team is 0-3) in his last three starts, allowing 14 ERs over 17 innings (7.41 ERA).
Gonzales began with St Louis back in 2014 but was traded to Seattle during the 2017 season. He went 13-9 in 2018 and 16-13 in 2019, before going 7-2 with a 3.10 ERA in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season (lowest ERA of any of his MLB seasons). However, Gonzales was forced to deal with injuries and ineffectiveness in the early part of 2021. A left forearm strain sidelined him for all of May and prior to July 4, he was 1-4 with a 6.00 ERA in 10 starts (team was 4-6). However, he's 6-0 with a 2.79 ERA over his last 13 starts (team is 10-3).
Sure the price may be a 'little high' but Seattle owns MLB's second-best moneyline mark at plus-$3,005. It is just $32 shy of the Giants, who own a record 14 games better than the Mariners! As for Seattle, the Mariners own MLB' worst moneyline mark at minus-$3,480, just under $1,300 worse than the second-worst team. Seattle also owns the worst road moneyline mark at minus-$2601. Easy choice to say, "Play Seattle."
