He has been a dicey proposition late in most races, but so have many of the rest lined up tonight. He has never raced at this kind of level and is meeting some suspect players who have had their share of chances.


#8 Hey Sach
He should get a good trip while tracking the pace, but he has already had multiple chances with this kind locally, and he is almost surely going to get bet on the drop back out of special weight company. The one to beat.


#3 Lord Byron
He's impossible to love with any confidence as he makes his 27th lifetime start, but he has done most of his good work while running out of this barn. He's probably not the right kind of price with these to swing on top, but he seems logical for a share.


Race Summary
Legio cuts the tag in half while racing for $7,500 for the first time, and maybe she finds it a bit easier to keep up with this softer bunch early. Something like the 8/1 ML price would feel attractive.

He's protected off the claim for a dangerous barn, and he has a perfect style to settle in just behind the speedy pair drawn to his inside. The local footing is a question, but the form is there on a day when a good trip should be waiting.


#2 Forward Motion
He's going to take some cash, but he has some sharp pace that probably makes him the one to catch into the turn. He is logical enough, but I wouldn't bite at any kind of short price with the 16:2-6-0 local record staring back.


#5 Notacatbutacard
Briefly considered giving this guy the edge, but the top pair seem to have ceilings that are higher than what this guy can offer right now. Still, he ran really well the last time he turned back from a route, and he might be a finishing threat at a fair price.

Kasim has faced some decent groups and might be able to bounce back for the new connections, and it's always good to see one protected for the new team after a few months away like this.

Would be happy to take something like the 10/1 ML price on this guy, as he brings form that has been really sharp around two turns so far this meet while being clouded by some dull sprint tries. He has his work cut out for him, but he's worth a play at a mid-range number.


#5 Great Bend
He might be the right one as he drops in class with the most successful resume over the last couple years while fitting this condition, and it'd be no surprise to see him wake up here with this much softer group.


#10 The Sinner Is You
He rolled a shorter group at 6/5 last out, and something similar probably keeps him in the mix again. The worry is he'll be overbet for the top rider and could potentially get a tricky trip from this draw.


Race Summary
Great Bend and The Sinner Is You look tough in here, but C The King is capable of producing a race that's competitive with that pair, and he's sure to offer a better number on the board. Tactical trip awaits.

Dropping considerably in Equibase class figure this time puts him in a solid position in this event. Traditional angle - 3rd or 4th start after a vacation generally leads to a big effort. Going to run a nice one here. This gelding's last speed fig recorded on Sep 8th is uppermost in last race Equibase speed figures.

Vulnerable Contenders: #8 REANIMATE (ML=3/1), #2 INTO THE OUT (ML=9/2), #4 GRAND STRATEGY (ML=5/1),

Must be given consideration in this race if only for the strong speed rating posted in the last race. PA ENCIMA - His chances to prove victorious are much better today facing this easier lot. He has earned respectable figures under today's conditions and ought to fare well versus this group of horses.

This horse is probably the best stretch runner in the field. FLUENT IN SARCASM - Ran last race out against a better field at Charles Town. The move down in class ranks should suit him well. Could be an overlay in today's race at morning line odds of 10/1. Finished fourth in last race at Charles Town but was close at the finish. FRANK'S LEGACY - A repeat of that latest race on August 29th where he recorded a speed rating of 69 looks strong enough to win in this affair. Likes to go to the front and the fact that today is a shorter trip should be beneficial. This horse collects a lot of dough per race. Tops in this event. SHACKLED - Taking a big drop in Equibase class figure points from his August 31st race at Colonial Downs. Based on that element, I will give this one the advantage.

Baseball is about value. When you see it you need to grab it. That's the case here. Minnesota is 17 games below .500. The Twins have a losing record this month. They are 4-9 in their last 13 home games. Detroit has a better record than Minnesota by five games. It's not like Bert Blyleven is on the mound either for Minnesota. The pitching matchup is Casey Mize versus Michael Pineda. Mize is one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. He's 7-8 with a 3.63 ERA. The Tigers have been reluctant to pitch him more than three innings during his last four starts. Maybe Mize will pitch longer since this figures to be his final start of the year. Pineda is your typical mediocre pitcher with an 8-8 record and 3.73 ERA. That ERA climbs to 3.92 when he pitches at home.

Minnesota has also won 4 of their last 5 games against teams with a losing record. Detroit (75-82) has lost three in a row — and they have lost 9 of their last 11 games against teams with a losing record. The Tigers have also lost 4 straight games as an underdog. I'll take my chances here with Houston cashing in a win at home as a -122 favorite against the Rays. You have to wonder just how motivated Tampa Bay is right now. They have secured the AL East title and it's all about getting ready for the postseason.
The Astros are almost in that same boat, as their magic number is 1 in the AL West. With how good Seattle is playing and less than a handful of games to play, Houston wants to lock this up now.
Got a pretty good starter on the mound for Houston in Luis Garcia. He's 11-6 with a 3.24 ERA and 1.150 WHIP in 27 starts. Key with Garcia is betting him at home, where his ERA is more than a full run better at 2.12. His WHIP also drops way down to 0.941. Give me the Astros -122!

The A's should have the edge in this one. In Montas' last two starts, he's allowed three combined HITS (1 earned run) through 14 combined innings. That's hits, not runs. The A's won those two games by a combined score of 17-4. Gilbert. 1-3 with a 4.91 ERA in 12 home starts, gave up four runs in five innings, in his last start. On 7/23, Montas struck out 10 Mariner hitters, delivering a quality start. The following day, Gilbert would last only 2 2/3 innings against the A's. Consider Oakland.
