Northfield Park has a 14-race card scheduled with the $1.00 Late Pick 4 beginning in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11

1-Y S Joe (4-1)-Davis has been on this veteran enough to know what type of trip he needs to negotiate for a picture. Should be in the hunt with an efficient journey.
3-A Farm Boys Success (2-1)-Has been facing better and should be a player. The best plan for success will probably be to get on the point. Should be a short price and has only 4 wins in 50 starts the past 2-years.

Race 12

4-Dylans Future (7/2)-Raced on the engine at this class last week and faded late. The result is not noteworthy as this 3-year-old is only 1-24 this year, but doesn't normally race on the point. He did race well and it wasn't the normal plan, so should be braver this week and best to respect.
6-Silent Splendor (2-1)-Raced big to win from post 9 on 10-26 and then missed a couple of starts. Expecting this 3-year-old to be ready for battle and will look for a big try.

Race 13

3-Dragon Ruler (4-1)-Merriman had the pedal down versus this kind last week and fell short. This is another case of trying something different, usually isn't on the lead early in the mile. Could finish better this time and no one from the last field is racing here.
6-A J Morelli (9/2)-Drops into a good spot but needs a sharp steer and an honest pace. Fisher should be rolling late, or he could leave and get in line near the one above.

Race 14

1-Totally Kissed (12-1)-Winner of 9 in 41 starts this year has the speed to make some noise but Lems will need to work an effective trip. Should have enough gate speed to race near the top of the stack.
2-Caviart Val (7/2)-Usually Merriman would be pedal down and look to get the point but not sure that's the best plan for this 4-year-old. Looks like a player and has a pilot who usually finds a way to be in striking range turning for the wire.
3-Victor Hick (9-1)-Loney trainee has beaten better than this at NFLD back in September. The driver change to Myers should help and is worth a swing at the morning line price.

He drops in at this level for the first time, and he occasionally turns in a pretty decent route effort. Think he can show enough pace to be in the mix into the far turn, and from there the easier company might be enough to get him home.


#7 Tequilamademedoit
He wouldn't be any kind of surprise in the opener, but this is his 13th career start, so he's running out of excuses. His previous two-turn tries have been hit or miss, and he's probably not the right kind of price today.


#3 No Tolerance
He briefly chased before giving way when a distant third in the first dirt try. There is some room for him to come forward in this second lifetime dirt start, and he's not far off what it might take to land an underneath share.


Race Summary
Scoop Dawg should be able to get the right kind of trip right up top with this group, and his main danger comes from a horse who is more exposed than he is while also bringing a murkier route record.

Think she has some room to improve while adding blinkers for this second career start, and she was just never involved in the slop in the debut try. Think she'll offer another fair price for a tough team.


#4 Burano
Forward player has given way late in both career tries, but she owns a couple of the better efforts in this whole group, so she's in the mix with just a repeat of her baseline.


#7 Kissin Cousin
Speed wasn't in the race for long at first asking, but I'm imagining she can stick around a little bit better here at what may still be an enticing price. Underneath?


Race Summary
Summertime Sue needs much better than she showed in the debut run, but she adds blinkers for a tough team and isn't meeting the most imposing bunch on paper today.

#1 Plane Drunk
Blinkers go on while dropping in class out of a couple of stakes tries, and she's likely to have a go of it from the rail draw while getting with this kind again. Would be interesting enough at something like the 6/1 ML price.


#5 Tiz Gracie
She is quick enough to be in the mix early with these with form that fits, but she was stuck in her first level allowance condition for quite some time, so this might be a big ask to step up another level and land it in her first try.


#2 Tara's Talent
Her better recent form is competitive with this bunch, but I worry if she's going to get enough pace to set things up for her late rally. Guessing she finds one or two of these too tough today, but I'd want her on the tickets.

Plane Drunk has enough speed to try for the front from the inside while adding blinkers, and she wasn't embarrassed in a couple stakes tries recently.

JANSELLE - Ran last time around the track against a high class rated field at Presque Isle Downs. The move down the ladder based on class should suit her well.

Vulnerable Contenders: #7 EGG NOG (ML=9/5), #3 ZEENA'S RUSH (ML=9/2), #6 NURSE KATIE (ML=6/1),

EGG NOG - Tough to keep stabbing at this sort of 'bridesmaid' horse. Will be hard for this thoroughbred to beat this field off of that last speed figure. Not likely to improve enough to run a figure anywhere near today's class figure, so put her on the questionable contenders list. Shouldn't bet on this one as the favorite with little to offer for the risk involved. ZEENA'S RUSH - Had to give me much more last race out. Never made much of an impact. Recorded a run-of-the-mill speed figure last out in a $5,000 Maiden Claiming race on October 23rd. Improbable to see an improved performance off of that number. NURSE KATIE - This horse likes to finish in the money, but doesn't usually win. Keep out of the top spot. When examining today's class rating, she will have to register a much better speed fig than in the last race to compete in this dirt sprint.

BOLDLEE - He must be given a shot given the respectable speed figures. Recent figs for the jock - 23 win percent - make this gelding stand out in this field. STONE HEART - Will probably compete admirably in the early speed clash which bodes well with this field. Has to be considered versus this group of horses displaying solid figures recently and an average speed rating of 70 under similar conditions.

The Atlanta Hawks are getting too much respect from the books tonight after beating the short-handed Milwaukee Bucks 120-100 at home last night. Now the Hawks will be playing the 2nd of a back-to-back and will be without De'Andre Hunter.
It's asking a lot of the Hawks to cover this big of a number in this spot, especially when you consider how poorly they were playing prior to that win over the Bucks. The Hawks had gone 0-6 SU & 0-6 ATS in their previous six games overall with five losses by 9 points or more.
It's a good time to 'buy low' on the Magic after going 1-4 SU & 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. But the losses all came against quality competition in Boston, San Antonio, Brooklyn and Washington. And their lone win came against the best team they faced in the Jazz, upsetting them 107-100 as 11-point underdogs.
Not only is it the 2nd of a back-to-back for the Hawks, it's also their 8th game in 13 days. It's no wonder they have struggled so much of late with how tired they have been, plus all the travel with five of their last seven games on the road. The Magic will be playing just their 3rd game in 8 days and will be the much fresher team. Bet the Magic Monday.

We all know they are bad but in the NBA you get stretches with the bad teams that they cover a ton. The Thunder have covered 5 of their last 6. The Heat off a big road win over the Jazz I think this is a let down spot here.

San Francisco is ranked 9th in overall DVOA (offense is 6th, defense is 16th) despite having only 3 wins on the season. The Rams are 3rd (offense is 2nd, defense is 4th). LA hasn't been the dominant force the past 3 weeks. They've always been able to throw the ball with the exception of last week, but their defense has only REALLY dominated 2 games this season. One against the Colts in Week 2, and the other against the Giants in Week 6. They allowed teams to pass on them mostly, but their run D that was once a brick wall has let up a bit.
Last game against the Cardinals, the 49ers looked way better than what the final score indicated. They didn't allow anything on the ground, which is usual, but they showed us one of their best passing games of the season. That followed up from last week against the Bears which was actually their best game. So coming off two solid games, one against a top team in the league, they're in good form despite having lost last game.
At home, our models have the 49ers projected at +1 on average, so getting over a FG offers big value.
