Play on: Loyola-Chicago +2½ -115 at BetVegas

1* NCAAB - Auburn/Loyola-Chicago FREE PICK on Loyola-Chicago +2.5
Thursday's Free NCAAB Pick is on the Loyola-Chicago Ramblers as a 2.5-point dog against the Auburn Tigers. We bet against Loyola-Chicago yesterday with Michigan State and while the Spartans won the game, I saw a lot that I liked out of that Ramblers team. However, the biggest reason I'm backing Loyola-Chicago today is the awful spot for Auburn coming off that crazy 109-115 2OT loss to UConn yesterday. Not only did players have to log extra minutes, that game was played at a pretty frantic pace. I just don't think the Huskies are going to have enough gas in the tank for this one. Bet the Ramblers +2.5!

NCAA-F | Fresno State vs San Jose State
Play on: UNDER 52½ -110

#113/114 ASA FREE PLAY ON Under 52.5 Points – Fresno State vs San Jose State, Saturday at 3:30 PM ET - Both of these teams have something to play for so we expect a top notch effort defensively. Fresno can still with the MWC West with a win and SJSU needs this win to become bowl eligible. San Jose is just bad offensively. They rank 107th in total offense and 112th scoring offense. They are coming off a loss to Utah State where the Spartans put up 10 points on offense (+ one defensive TD) vs the 91st ranked defense. They have topped 27 points once this season and that was vs New Mexico State that ranks 127th in total defense. Fresno currently ranks 36th in total defense which will be the 3rd best defense they’ve faced this season. SJSU has faced 4 defenses ranked inside the top 60 and in those games they’ve averaged 12.5 PPG (in regulation). The Fresno offense put up some big scoring efforts early in the year but over the last 6 they are averaging 25 PPG. San Jose’s defense is solid (49th in total defense) and they are coming off their worst performance vs a high tempo Utah State team so this defense will be focused on Thursday. Prior to that poor outing the Spartan defense had allowed more than 27 points just once this season. In their 2 other games vs the top teams in the MWC West, the Spartans lost 27-24 vs a very good Nevada offense and the Wolfpack had 2 non offensive TD’s in that game. SJSU also lost 19-13 in OT (6-6 at end of regulation) vs San Diego State. Both of these teams are average paced right around 50th nationally so this won’t be a run and gun affair. The projected final score here is right around 30-23 in favor of Fresno and we don’t see either team getting to their number. Take the UNDER.

Jack Jones Nov 25 '21, 3:30 PM in 6h
NCAA-F | Fresno State vs San Jose State
Play on: Fresno State -7 -106 at pinnacle

Jack's Free Pick Thursday: Fresno State -7
The Fresno State Bulldogs are still very much alive for the Mountain West Championship. They need to win this game Thursday and have San Diego State lose to Boise State on Friday to win the West division because they own the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Aztecs. Boise State is favored in that contest. So I know the Bulldogs will show up in a big way Thursday, and it should be good enough to cover this 7-point spread.
San Jose State won the Mountain West last season and has been a huge disappointment this season at 5-6. I question whether or not they even want a bowl game after a dreadful 17-48 home loss to Utah State last time out. That game was every bit the blowout that the final score showed as the Spartans were held to just 150 total yards against a bad Utah State defense.
And that's the problem for the Spartans. I don't think they can score enough against this solid Fresno State defense that gives up just 21.3 points per game. San Jose State averages just 21.0 points per game and 341.7 yards per game this season. It hasn't mattered who has been under center for them as starter Nick Starkel has actually been worse this season than backup Nick Nash. Neither is completing more than 54% of their passes.
Fresno State boasts one of the best offenses in the country. The Bulldogs average 33.0 points per game and 461.4 yards per game this season. Quarterback Jake Haener is the real deal, completing 66.8% of his passes for 3,467 yards with a 28-to-11 TD/INT ratio. He had huge games against Oregon and UCLA earlier this season in splitting those two close contests.
The Bulldogs are 21-8-1 ATS in their last 30 road games. Fresno State is 8-2 ATS in its last 10 games following a win by more than 20 points. Simply put, I know the Bulldogs are going to bring their 'A' game, and that should be good enough to cover this number even if San Jose State brings its 'A' game. But there's a good chance the Spartans bring something much less than that to the field, something similar to their lackluster effort against Utah State last time out. Bet Fresno State Thursday.

NCAA-F | Fresno State vs San Jose State
Play on: UNDER 52½ -110

Friday CFB Free play. My selection is on the 'under' between Fresno State and San Jose STate at 3:30 pm et on Thursday.
There's a lot on the line for both of these teams on Thanksgiving Day. Fresno State is looking to wrap up the MWC West Division with a win while San Jose State needs a victory to become Bowl eligible at the last possible moment. With that in mind, I'm confident we'll see this one played fairly close to the vest. Keep in mind, the last time these two teams met they combined to score only 33 points at this same venue two years ago. The San Jose State defense had held its last four opponents to a grand total of only 87 points before getting lit up for 48 points in last week's blowout loss against Utah State. Consider that a wake-up call heading into this pivotal contest. Fresno State got a similar reality check two games back against Boise State as it gave up a whopping 40 points. It responded by allowing just seven points in a rout of lowly New Mexico on November 13th. Note that the 'under' has cashed in each of the Bulldogs last two games and is now 33-18 in their last 51 games following a conference win. The 'under' is also 8-1 in San Jose State's last nine games in an underdog role, as is the case here. Take the under.

Play on: OVER 51½ -102

FREE PICK: Raiders/Cowboys OVER 51.5
RATING: 30*
ROT#: 703
I will take my chances on the OVER 51.5 in Thursday's Thanksgiving showdown between the Cowboys and Raiders. We have seen this line drop a full 4 points since it opened, as there's been quite the overreaction after how bad these two offenses looked in Week 11.
The Cowboys managed just 9 points and failed to find the end zone in their highly anticipated showdown with the Chiefs, while the Raiders scored just 13 points at home in a blowout loss to the Bengals.
I know Dallas is down some key guys on offense and that's the third straight week the Raiders have scored 17 or fewer points. I just think it's a good matchup for both offenses.
As broken as the Raiders offense looks, I believe the real problem has been their defense. They let a broken KC offense put up 41 points and over 500 yards of offense on them in a prime time game and then gave up 32 to the Bengals last week.
Even if the Cowboys are shorthanded offensively, I got faith in Dak Prescott being able to guide that offense on multiple scoring drives against this Las Vegas stop unit. You also got to keep in mind they really didn't get to practice for not having Cooper against the Chiefs as he was a late Covid scratch and they lost Lamb at the half.
It's a little more tricky with the Raiders offense. As I do think they are suffering from not having Gruden to run his offense, but this Cowboys defense can be had and I think it's a bit of a flat spot for Dallas given how much that game against Mahomes and the Chiefs meant to them last week.
There's also the short rest factor here, which I think is a much tougher ask for the guys on the defensive side of the ball than it is the offensive players. Give me the OVER 51.5!

NCAA-B | Alabama vs Iona
Play on: Iona +12½ -110 at Mirage

My free play is on Iona at 5:00 ET.

Nate Oats spent four years at Buffalo and went 59-13 in his last two, making the Big Dance each time. That allowed him the opportunity to come to Alabama and after a 16-15 first season (COVID) he led the Tide to a 26-7 record and a Sweet 16 appearance. Gone from that team are the 6-7 Jones (11.2 & 6.6), who was not only the SEC player-of-the-year but also the league's Defensive POY. Also gone is veteran guard Petty (12.6 & 5.2). However, the Tide have plenty of talent left and have opened 4-0 (currently ranked 10th in the AP poll). Alabama will square off against another undefeated team tonight in Lake Buena Vista, Fl, as the Tide take on the 5-0 Iona Gaels. Some may have heard of Iona's head coach, none other than Rick Pitino. I know Oats and the Alabama players have heard about him (more in a bit).
COVID limited the Gaels to just 13 regular season games last season (8-5 / 6-3 in the MAAC). However, tourney time was NOT head coach Rick Ptino's 'first rodeo!' Iona beat FOUR opponents (Gaels held those opponents to just 53.8 PPG) on its way to the tourney title and an NCAA bid. Iona fell to two-seed Alabama in the Big Dance, but held them 12 points less than its season average and covered, in a 68-55 loss. Iona lost its two top guards in Ross (18.4) and Gist (13.3). However, Pitino likes his three transfers, Joiner (9.3-5.3-43.5) from Tulsa, Jolly (16.0 & 5.0) from SMU and the 6-8 Slazinski (10.8 & 4.0) from Louisville. He loved the potential of 6-9 PF Joseph (11.1 & 7.5 as a freshman) and he has delivered, leading the team in scoring (16.6) and rebounding (7.2). 6-8 veteran van Eyck comes off the bench to average 12.0 & 5.6.
Alabama did return its top-two scorers from last season and guards Shackelford and Quinerly are again leading the way. Shackelford checks in at 19.5 & 6.8 and Quinerly at 17.5-4.5-5.0. Swingman Ellis adds 14.5 & 8.3 plus freshman center Bediako (9.3 & 4.8) is starting, while 6-6 freshman Miles (10.3) is coming off the bench to give the team a spark.

The last time the two programs met, the right to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament was on the line. This time around, the winner moves on to the semifinals of the ESPN Events Invitational against either Belmont or Drake on Friday. The stakes are not nearly as high but I again expect Pitino's team to 'hang' with 'Bama. Take the points.

Good luck...Larry

The NCAAB Comp Play is on Iona at 5:00 eastern. The Gaels are taking 12 points here in a neutral court game against an Alabama team that can score but plays very little defense ranked 206th in the nation.. The Tide have failed to cover 4 of 5 as a favorite when not on their home court. Iona has covered 8 of 9 off a win, 12 of 15 in Neutral court games and 4 of 5 vs .600 or better opposition. They are off to a 5-0 start and are 13th in the nation in defending the three. Look for The Gaels to hang around here and get the cover. Rob V- Golden Contender Sports

NCAA-F | Ole Miss vs Mississippi State
Play on: Mississippi State -120 at SC Consensus

Your FREE PICK here on Thanksgiving will be on MISSISSIPPI STATE. Taking the home team here to get it done. So we have a pair of great OCs going head to head today and both have teams led by pretty good QBs. Safe to say this is a pretty big rivalry game. The Egg Bowl! Well, we don't want any egg on our face so we are grabbing the Bulldogs. A little better on the defensive side of things. And honestly. This game is going to be a dog fight. We know all the lover for Kiffen and his QB Matt Coral. So he is banged up. It is November. Everyone is banged up. But I think this defense puts us over the top. Don't sell MSU QB Will Rogers short. The guy has 34 TD passes. Plus a pair of RBs to help carry the load. Take MISSISSIPPI STATE this afternoon and be a WINNER. - Have a great holiday today - Higgs

Best Horse Racing Bets for Thursday, November 25, 2021
By J.W. Paine in Horse Racing

Even though nearly half of the races I assessed for my Thursday picks were stakes races, I found plenty of underdogs and sleepers among the competitors.

Churchill Downs was the stingiest, offering up just a couple of second-favored likelies, but Del Mar Racing yielded an 8/1 sleeper, and Fair Grounds Race Course chipped in with a 6/1 underdog in the Joseph R. Peluso Memorial Stakes.

Remember to check out the full race cards for all the Thanksgiving Day races at one of our top horseracing wagering sites.

Good luck!
Thursday Picks for Churchill Downs

Let’s start with race six, a seven-furlong allowance optional claiming run on the main track for fillies and mares three years old and upward. I’m backing the second-favored (at 2/1) Regal Retort, ridden by Tyler Gaffalione.

While several of the entries in this six-horse field were campaigned at the stakes level in the past only to falter in more recent races, this five-year-old mare has remained consistent throughout, finishing in the money for ten of her 16 career starts, winning four. Most notably, she finished third in the Roamin Rachel Stakes (Black Type) at Parx Racing in September.

Steve Asmussen trains Regal Retort for owners David Charlton, MarchFore Thoroughbreds, and Bradley Thoroughbreds.

Race ten is a 1-1/16 miles allowance optional claiming race on the main track for three-year-olds. I’ll agree with the morning-line here and bet my two dollars on the 3/1 favorite, Dr Jack, with Tyler Gaffalione aboard.
This colt moneyed four of his six career starts, winning two. Notably, he finished third in both the Pegasus Stakes (Listed) at Monmouth Park in June and the Bourbon Trail Stakes (Black Type) at Churchill Downs in September.

Steve Asmussen trains Dr Jack for Harrell Ventures, LLC. He’s put Gaffalione in the irons for Dr Jack’s most recent two races.

Race eleven is the Falls City Stakes (Grade II), a $500,000 purse, 1-1/8 mile main track run for fillies and mares three years old and upward. I’m calling this one for the 5/2 second-favored Army Wife, piloted by Luis Saez.

This three-year-old filly got off to a slow start in 2020, graduating from the maiden class on her fourth attempt, but she then got serious and moneyed every race she entered in 2021, including five stakes races.

For the record, Army Wife finished nine of her eleven career starts in the money, winning four, including the George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (Grade II) at Pimlico in May and the Iowa Oaks (Grade III) at Prairie Meadows in July.

Breeders’ Cup veteran Michael J. Maker trains Army Wife for Three Diamonds Farm.
Thursday’s Picks for Del Mar Racing

We’ll start here on the turf with race four; a 1-1/16 miles allowance optional claiming race for fillies and mares three years old and upward. For this one, I like the 8/1 sleeper, Cordiality, with Tyler Baze in the irons.
I’m not so much impressed with Cordiality as I am unimpressed with her competition in this ten-horse field.

Not to say this eight-year-old mare doesn’t have the chops: She finished in the money for 23 of her 34 career starts, winning 12, including the 2020 Osunitas Stakes (Black Type) at Del Mar and the 2020 Swingtime Stakes (Black Type) at Santa Anita. She’s not raced for a year, but her recent workouts are encouraging.

Tim Yakteen trains Cordiality for owner Donnie Crevier.

Race six is the Red Carpet Handicap (Grade III), a $100,000 purse, 1-3/8 miles stakes race on the turf course for fillies and mares three years old and upward. I’m betting my two dollars on the 4/5 morning-line favorite, Luck, ridden by Flavien Prat.

This four-year-old filly started her career in France, then came back Stateside for her two most recent races. Overall, she moneyed five of her six career starts, winning three. Her most recent run resulted in a second-place finish in the Rodeo Drive Stakes (Grade I) at Santa Anita last month.
She posted triple-digit speed figures for both of her US runs. In this short field of five, she’s the star.

Regularly ranked among the top 100 trainers in both earnings and wins, Richard Baltas trains Luck for owner-breeder LNJ Foxwoods.

Race eight is a 1-3/8 miles allowance optional claiming race on the turf for three-year-olds and upward. I’m betting on one of the third-favored entries (the morning-line has four at 6/1 in this race), First Premio, piloted by Drayden Van Dyke.

This seven-year-old gelding finished in the money for 16 of his 30 career starts, winning seven, including the Colonel E. R. Bradley Handicap (Listed) at Fair Grounds in 2019. Surprised he hasn’t won a stakes race since 2019? Well, prepare to be gobsmacked: Neither has the morning-line favorite.

What First Premio has done this year is win a race, which—sadly—the morning-line favorite has not.

Tim Yakteen trains First Premio for owners Timothy Dore and Denice Moewes.
My Thursday Picks for Fair Grounds Race Course

We’re on the turf course here for race six; a 1-1/8 miles allowance optional claiming race for three-year-olds and upward. I like the 3/1 morning-line favorite, Artie’s Rumor, with Reylu Gutierrez in the irons.
This six-year-old gelding finished 24 of his 41 career starts in the money, winning 12, including the Singletary Stakes (Black Type) at Lone Star in June. Versus the competition he’ll encounter in this eleven-horse field, he’ll do just fine.

Breeders’ Cup veteran Ron Moquett trains Artie’s Rumor for owner Carson McCordmorn.

Race seven is the Thanksgiving Classic Stakes, a $150,000 purse, six-furlong main track run for three-year-olds and upward. This is my no-brainer pick of the day: Bet the farm (or a comfortable portion thereof) on the 7/2 second-favored Greeley and Ben, ridden by Reylu Gutierrez.

This seven-year-old gelding finished in the money for 21 of his 26 career starts, winning 16, including the David M. Vance Stakes (Black Type) at Remington Park in September. He’s currently on a nine-race winning streak.

Top-ranked racing veteran Karl Broberg trains Greeley and Ben for End Zone Athletics, Inc.

We’re back on the turf for race eight—the Joseph R. Peluso Memorial Stakes, a $75,000 purse, 1-1/16 miles run for fillies and mares three years old and upward. I like the 6/1 underdog Breeze Rider, with E. T. Baird in the irons.

This four-year-old filly moneyed 14 of her 22 career starts, winning nine. And her 2021 record is even better: Seven money finishes in ten starts, five of which were wins.

Steve Manley trains Breeze Rider for Mike Piazza Racing Stable LLC.

#2 Luck is the one to beat in this race after nearly winning a Grade 1 event last time out. Flavien Prat jumps aboard once again today. #3 Neige Blanche could pick up the minor awards, but proved to be no match for our top choice last time out.

Race 7: Maiden Claiming

#4 Katonah has to rebound from a poor start last time out, but will get help today, as he drops down to the maiden claiming ranks. #5 Con on the Run set the pace and nearly held on in his dirt debut last time out, finishing third. He will look to get out in front again today.

Race 8: Allowance Optional Claiming

#6 Offlee Naughty has been solid in his last two starts. Last time out he was within two lengths of winning a similar race to todays contest. #5 Jimmy P runs second off the layoff in this spot, which should lead to some improvement today. He was a solid third last time out.

RACE 1: Post: 11:00 PT Grade: B-
Use: 2-Melting Snow; 4-Sweet Soulmate

Forecast: The Thanksgiving Day opener (early first post time 11:00 a.m.) drew just five entrants for a $40,000 claiming dash restricted to 3-year-old fillies. The P. Miller barn – unusually ice cold during this abbreviated Fall season – is represented by two main players including morning like favorite Melting Snow, a winner of five of 10 career starts including a solid score over this track and distance during the summer meeting. Below form in her last pair, the daughter of Dialed In shows a healthy work tab since raced and remains at her claim level, so it would appear her connections still have confidence in her. Worth including on your ticket is Sweet Soulmate, a first-off-the-claim play for R. Baltas and a perfect two-for-two over the Del Mar main track. The daughter of Twirling Candy may be the best of the speed types but always has been suspect in the closing stages of her race. Perhaps she’ll stick better for her new connections.

__________________________________________________ ____________________________

RACE 2: Post: 11:30 PT Grade: B+
Single: 2-Eddie’s New Dream

Forecast: Eddie’s New Dream projects to enjoy a very soft pace-setting trip and should be quite capable of capitalizing on the favorable pace flow. A troubled fifth in the Autumn Miss S.-G3 at Santa Anita last month, the daughter of Square Eddie returns to the first-level allowance ranks and with rising speed figures, two easy breezes since raced, and a win two races back that if repeated today would be more than good enough to handle this assignment. At 3-1 on the morning line, she’s a win play and rolling exotic single.

__________________________________________________ ____________________________
__________________________________________________ ____________________________

RACE 3: Post: 12:00 PT Grade: B
Use: 3-Herd Immunity; 4-Sea to Success

Forecast: Sea to Success crushed a $32,000 field last month at Santa Anita with a career top speed figure and seems capable of winning right back despite the raise to the $50,000 level given his improving pattern since joining the K. Mullhall barn. A prior winner over the Del Mar main track, the son of Anchor Downs can be effective on the lead or from a stalking position, so regular pilot R. Gonzalez can choose his strategy depending upon the race flow in this seven furlong affair. Herd Immunity, runner-up in his last pair, most recently with a career top speed figure, may find himself as the controlling speed. If he can shake loose early, the son of Union Rags may get brave. Both should be included in rolling exotic play with the preference on top to Sea to Success

__________________________________________________ ____________________________
__________________________________________________ ____________________________

RACE 4: Post: 12:30 PT Grade: B-
Use: 2-Pulpit Rider; 3-Bacchanalia; 4-Norma Jean B.

Forecast: Here’s a fairly wide open middle distance turf even for second-level allowance fillies and mares that requires a spread in rolling exotic play. We’ll go three-deep and hope that’s enough. Norman Jean B. has made steady progress since joining the V. Cerin barn and is a perfect two-for-two over the Del Mar grass course. A solid runner-up in the Swingtime S. last month at Santa Anita, the daughter of Tapiture tries a softer group today while being reunited with “win rider” K. Desormeaux and projects to enjoy a comfortable second flight, ground-saving trip and then have her chance to produce a winning late kick. Pulpit Rider was a clever winner over the local lawn two races back in a race that produced a career top speed figure, one that is considerably better than par for this level. Overmatched when sprinting in the subsequent California Distaff H. at Santa Anita last month, she stretches out again to her preferred trip and is back with F. Prat, who was aboard in her win in the Solana Beach S. here in mid-August. A repeat of that effort today probably would be good enough. Eastern invader Bacchanalia, now in the P. D’Amato barn, projects to be prominent throughout and more dangerous than her morning line of 10 might indicate. She can be tough on the front end or from a stalking position and from where she’s drawn seems likely to enjoy an ideal ground-saving trip.

__________________________________________________ ____________________________
__________________________________________________ ____________________________

RACE 5: Post: 1:02 PT Grade: C+
Use: 1-Morning Addiction; 3-Flat Out Joy

Forecast: This is an inscrutable restricted (nw-3) $25,000 claiming extended sprint for fillies and mares in which no result could be considered surprising. Use as many as you can afford to. For small ticket players, we suggest you include the two listed above. There are things to like about Morning Addiction, though she must leave from the rail and this track often produces a bias against the inside lanes. You should take note of the earlier results to see how the dirt strip is playing. With a prior win over the local main track, the route-to-sprint angle, and numbers that are competitive at this level, the daughter of Carpe Diem should be within range throughout and then have every chance when the pressure is turned on. At 8-1 on the morning line, she offers intriguing value. Flat Out Joy, first or second in three of four career starts at Del Mar, projects to be within range throughout, and with a bullet half mile workout just six days ago at Santa Anita (:47.4h fastest of 31) the S. McCarthy-trained mare should be set for a major effort.

__________________________________________________ ____________________________
__________________________________________________ ____________________________

RACE 6: Post: 1:33 PT Grade: X
Single: Luck

Forecast: Luck did not draw into the field for the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf, which was a shame because we actually thought the daughter of Kitten’s Joy had a reasonable long shot look to hit the board and maybe even pull off a major upset. Instead, she surfaces in this year’s edition of the 11-furlong Red Carpet H. and is listed as the 4/5 morning line favorite after narrowly missing in the Rodeo Drive S.-G1 in early October. Already proven over the local course with an authoritative score in her U.S. debut in overnight company during the summer season, the R. Baltas-trained filly continues to work lights out and with just six career starts (three wins) she has plenty of room for further development. She’s a logical short-priced rolling exotic single.

__________________________________________________ ____________________________
__________________________________________________ ____________________________

RACE 7: Post: 2:05 PT Grade: B-
Use: 2-King Apollo; 4-Katonah

Forecast: Here’s another challenging affair, this one for maiden $50,000 claiming juveniles over the extended sprint distance of six and one-half furlongs. In this case we’ll lean on the first-time maiden-to-maiden claiming angle and try to survive and advance using just Katonah and King Apollo in rolling exotic play. Katonah, though soundly-beaten in all three of his starts to date, has buried speed figures that make him the one to beat, as his third place effort two runs back earned a number that is considerably stronger than par for this level. ‘Apollo has two previous outings, both on grass, so we’re largely guessing on how he’ll perform on dirt, but the son of Palace Malice has been his own worst enemy so far (rank in his debut, off slowly in his second start) so perhaps he will have gained sufficient experience to show his best stuff against this infinitely softer field. At 6-1 on the morning line, he’s worth including on your ticket.

Notable Workouts:

Katonah (November 20, 5f, 1:01h). Grade: B
Breezing outside Miss Everything (5f, 1:01.4h) for Desormeaux, never asked while drawing clear to be clear by three lengths with plenty left. Better than his form might indicate and will be dangerous with a class drop.

RACE 8: Post: 2:35 PT Grade: B
Use: 2-Cleopatra’s Strike; 6-Offlee Naughty

Forecast: The finale is a mini-marathon affair for first-level allowance horses in a race that drew a full field of 12. Cleopatra’s Strike seems to be coming around a bit after finishing a solid runner-up in a similar affair over a slightly shorter trip at Santa Anita last month. Winless the last two years with only victories to go along with 13 runner-up efforts during his career, he may not be one to trust, but he’s an ex-classer with earning in excess of a half million dollars and may step into a different dimension at this longer journey. Offlee Naughty is a lightly-raced and improving 3-year-old that should enjoy this three-turn affair. A clever maiden winner at Santa Anita two runs back, the son of Flashback ran better than the line will show when closing with interest to be fourth into slow fractions at 15-1 in a better-than-average middle distance race over the local lawn three weeks ago. The M. McCarthy-trained colt shows a nice breeze in the interim and has a grinding, staying style that should play well at this trip, so with another forward move today he’ll offer some price value at 6-1 on the morning line.

Brian W. Spencer's Daily Picks

Fair Grounds - Race #5
Picks Notes
#5 Chrome Racer She has been doing decent work around one turn in Florida since joining the team, and she has the pedigree to get around two turns in a spot where this kind of horse's connections are hoping to successfully get around two turns heading into the 3yo races. Filly has a real chance here.
#3 Walhalla He has a big pedigree and some speed to use, and he has turned in a couple decent efforts when rained off the turf. The addition of Lasix might help, and he looks like the one to beat at a short price.
#6 Curlin Edges He'll meet a decent enough crew at first asking, but this barn can get them ready to go, and a decent showing out of the box would be no surprise. Get a look at him o the track.
Race Summary Nothing sadder for me than when Arlington closes every summer (this time probably for good), but nothing makes me happier than Opening Day at Fair Grounds. The filly rates a real chance in here while stretching around two turns, and she may offer a playable enough price.

Fair Grounds - Race #6
Picks Notes
#4 Greeley and Ben No arguing with this guy who has won nine races in a row, and he stepped up really nicely to easily land that stakes try at Remington. It's fair to wonder when a good thing like this winning streak is going to come to an end, but with his current form, I'll let him tell me when.
#7 Just Might He draws well to prompt any other pace inside, and he has done good work here in the past. His company lines are solid, he's in the mix from the gate, and he is coming out of a much better spot. Right to be tough.
#3 Went West Think this team could have a decent showing on Opening Day, and I considered giving this guy top call here while stepping up. He has a pretty high ceiling and can probably work out a decent spying trip. I'd want him on the tickets.
Race Summary Greeley and Ben is so sharp right now, but this spot does represent a step up for him into a tougher group. I think he's up to the challenge from another perfect spying spot, and this guy feels like one of those where the tote board may tell the tale.

Fair Grounds - Race #8
Picks Notes
#8 Breeze Rider There may be a bit of other pace in here, but this one seems fast enough to find the front early under a rider who is among the best in the nation with speed horses when he's on his game. Riser may have a go for it from the gate.
#1 Valentines Day She's pretty reliable against this type of company, and she still figures to offer a decent price. She will probably find one or two of these a bit too tough to land this, but she might be useful underneath at a double digit price.
#6 Alms She didn't fire a big one off the bench when racing one turn, but she has plenty of back route form that would make her very tough with these. Think she should be in a great spot once they turn for home.
Race Summary There are plenty of ways to go, with #9 Dominga having a chance too, but there may be some prices to be had here. Breeze Rider has been a consistent type, and she is fast enough to find a perfect spot right up near the top.

Frank Carulli's Daily Picks

Fraser Downs - Race #1
Picks Notes
#5 THOUGHTFUL GESTURE Holds tactical edge and has two wins while rest of field has three total.
#7 OUTLAW TIC TAC Been facing better, should launch contending rally.
#8 CRITICS DELIGHT Been burning money, looms forward factor throughout if she stays flat.
Race Summary Thoughtful Gesture was scratched 'sick' when last seen a month ago, but she was on the lead through a 1:26.2 third-quarter split and will take some catching today if ready. Play 5-4, 5-7 and 5-8 exactas.

Woodbine-Mohawk Park - Race #4
Picks Notes
#10 BLACK BETTY Has speed, could go the distance with second-time Lasix, price attached.
#1 CARD COLLECTOR Broke single-file setup near far turn, sustained 3-wide rally until late to finish third.
#2 NOTHINGCOMPARESTOU Beat most of these with well-timed move from fourth.
Race Summary Black Betty has enough speed to overcome the post 10 starting spot and she could go a long way up front at a big price. She brushed to a commanding lead from post 8 with first-time Lasix at Western Fair last out but settled for third as the favorite. Play 10-1, 10-2 and 10-3 exactas.

Woodbine-Mohawk Park - Race #8
Picks Notes
#9 PHOENIX Good form in the states, broke stride in Canada, longshot stab on switch to Moreau barn.
#5 BASTIANO No threat to repeat fave at Flamboro in preferred company.
#8 ROWLEN Rallied for three seconds and two thirds in last six starts.
Race Summary Phoenix rallied strongly for back-to-back wins Vernon Downs, then shipped to Rideau Carleton and broke stride as the favorite. He appears in the Moreau barn tonight and is worth considering at a good price despite drawing post 9. Play a 5-8-9 exacta box.

Jerry Shottenkirk's Daily Picks

Del Mar - Race #1
Picks Notes
#1 I'm the Boss of Me Has excellent speed, gets the rail and should be able to control this one on the front end.
#2 Melting Snow Ran evenly and finished fourth on turf last out; gets back to dirt and can be a factor throughout this one.
#4 Sweet Soulmate Was claimed last out when he ran a poor one and makes his first for Balta; had been in good form until his latest.
Race Summary I'm the Boss of Me usually gets the early lead and is back to 3-year-old fillies after facing older.

Del Mar - Race #2
Picks Notes
#1 Miss Costa Rica Dropped too far back and couldn't make up the ground last out; has been good races and should enough pace in front of her.
#6 Nazuna Just missed over this course last time in what was her first in California after two unsuccessful starts at Belmont, following some good performances in Great Britain.
#4 Eddie's New Dream Was unplaced in the G3 Autumn Miss last out and has a good closing move on occasion.
Race Summary Miss Costa Rica can benefit from a ground-saving trip off the pace and can gathered them up late.

Del Mar - Race #6
Picks Notes
#1 England's Rose Seeks third straight win and comes in off a restricted stakes score; takes a step up but in top form and has a great money rider in Victor Espinoza.
#2 Luck Just missed in the G1 Rodeo last out and has been sharp in both U.S. starts after beginning her career in France.
#5 Nicest Was fourth in the G1 QE II Cup at Keeneland last out after successful appearances in Great Britain and Ireland.
Race Summary England's Rose was at this marathon distance two races back and only gets better the farther she goes.

NFL Sharp Action

12:30 p.m. ET: Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions

The Bears (3-7 SU, 4-6 ATS) have lost five straight games and just fell to the Lamar Jackson-less Ravens 16-13, failing to cover as 1-point home dogs. Meanwhile, the Lions (0-9-1 SU, 6-4 ATS) are the only winless team in the NFL but have covered their last two games, most recently falling to the Browns 13-10 but covering as 13.5-point road dogs. This line opened with Chicago listed as a 3-point road favorite. We saw the line jump up to 3.5 and that's when a flood of sharp Lions money grabbed the hook, dropping it back down to the key number of 3. Many shops are juicing up the Lions 3 to -115, signaling a possible further drop down to 2.5. The Lions are also an ideal teaser candidate ( 2.5 to 8.5), which goes through the two kew numbers of 3 and 7. Conference dogs 7 or less are 52-29 ATS (64%) this season. Detroit also has value as a divisional dog (57% ATS the past two seasons). Sharps have also gotten down on the under, dropping the total from 42.5 to 41.5. Both teams are 7-3 to the under. Late season divisional unders (Week 11 or late) are roughly 56% the past decade.

4:30 p.m. ET: Las Vegas Raiders at Dallas Cowboys

The Raiders (5-5 SU, 4-6 ATS) have lost three straight games and just fell to the Bengals 32-13, failing to cover as 2-point home dogs. Similarly, the Cowboys (7-3 SU, 8-2 ATS) have dropped two of their last three and just lost to the Chiefs 19-9, failing to cover as 2.5-point road dogs. This line opened with Dallas listed as a 7-point favorite. Respected money has laid the points, steaming Dallas up from -7 to -7.5. Some shops hit 8 and we saw some Raiders buyback, dropping it back down to 7.5. Thanksgiving Day favorites are roughly 70% ATS the last decade. Dallas also has value as a non-conference favorite with a high total (51). The Cowboys are a teaser candidate (-7.5 to -1.5), which goes through multiple key numbers. The total has ticked up slightly from 50.5 to 51.5. Non-conference unders are 36-17 (68%) this season. When the total is 50 or more, the under is 30-21 (59%). The Cowboys are 4-0 to the under their last four games.

8:20 p.m. ET: Buffalo Bills at New Orleans Saints

The Bills (6-4 SU, 5-4-1 ATS) are only 2-3 over their last five games and just got crushed by the Colts 41-15, losing outright as 7-point home favorites. The Saints (5-5 SU, 5-5 ATS) are also struggling, mired in a 3-game losing skid. New Orleans just got rolled by Philadelphia 40-29, failing to cover as 3-point road dogs. This line opened with Buffalo listed as a 4.5-point road favorite. The public is hammering the Bills, driving Buffalo up to the key number of -6. Some shops are even heading to 6.5. At this point, the Saints possess some buy-low inflated line value at 6.5. Sean Payton is 4-1 ATS as a dog this season and 45-26 ATS (63%) in his career. Primetime dogs are 22-11 ATS (67%) this season. Wiseguys also hit the under, dropping the total from 46.5 to 45. If the total is 45 or less, the under is 32-20 (62%) this season. This is also a non-conference under match (68%).

Dave's Thursday Free Play:
1* on Syracuse -1.5
The Key: The Arizona State Sun Devils are rebuilding this season. They lost a ton of players in the transfer portal and are off to a 2-3 start this season including an upset loss to UC-Riverside. Syracuse is 2-2 as well but I trust this team that made a deep run in the NCAA Tournament last year. The Sun Devils are 15-34-2 ATS in their last 51 games overall. Take Syracuse.

San Diego is 5-1 ATS last 6 games against a team with a winning record. San Diego is 3-1-1 ATS last 5 games as a favorite. My Rocketman line has San Diego winning by 7.28 points in this one. # 5 NICEST (IRE) 8/1

# 2 LUCK 4/5

# 3 NEIGE BLANCHE (FR) 7/2

NICEST (IRE) supports the bet in here and could score at a price in here. Posted a quite good Equibase Speed Figure last time out. With a nice class fig average of 103, has one of the best class advantages in this field. Don't let this filly slip past you. Could win at a juicy mutuel. LUCK - She should be considered given the respectable speed figures. I like the jockey on this filly - very good chance to win the race. NEIGE BLANCHE (FR) - Her 99 average has this filly with among the strongest Equibase Speed Figures for this race. Hernandez and Powell are a potent pair for gains.

#6 NATIONWIDE PRIDE (ML=6/1)
#4 EVEN STEVEN (ML=2/1)

NATIONWIDE PRIDE - Alvarado rode this animal for the initial time last time out and comes right back this race. If this gelding gets out of the gate cleanly, he'll be tough to catch. Ledezma brings him back again. I advocate you stay with this live gelding. EVEN STEVEN - I like to bet on this angle, a horse coming back off a sharp race within the last month. Took a significant drop in class rating last out at Golden Gate Fields. Returning to a similar class level right here. Should do well. You have to really like that most recent race speed fig, 54, which is the top latest race fig of this bunch. Ranked at the top in EPS (earnings per start). Another indication that this animal is the class of the race.

Vulnerable Contenders: #3 BRANNIGAN (ML=8/5), #2 HANDSOME HUSSAR (ML=4/1),

BRANNIGAN - Hard to take this racer at the odds after the finish (sixth) in the last race. Finished sixth in his most recent performance with a mediocre speed rating. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this field. HANDSOME HUSSAR - This gelding made little impact last time out of the box. Notched a somewhat easily forgotten speed fig last time out in a $12,500 Maiden Claiming race on November 5th. Improbable to see an improved performance off of that figure.

# 6 IS THERE A FOREST 3/1

# 7 OUR TICKET 8/1

# 5 FRAME THIS 6/1

My selection in this race is IS THERE A FOREST. Has solid Speed Figures and has to be considered for a wager in this race. Will most likely come out very solid - I have liked the way this filly has moved swiftly to the lead recently. Ought to be considered - I like the numbers from the last contest. OUR TICKET - Will likely be one of the front-runners of the pack going into the halfway point of the contest. Had one of the top speed figures of this group of horses in her last race. FRAME THIS - Is worth serious consideration and may be a bet - strong Equibase Speed Figures (71 average) at today's distance and surface lately. The Equibase speed fig of 77 from her latest race looks competitive in here.

#9 HEAVEN'S GOT FIRE (ML=7/2)
#8 FLYING WITH ANGELS (ML=5/1)
#2 DA MONEY (ML=15/1)
#10 BAKENEKO (ML=8/1)

HEAVEN'S GOT FIRE - That 86 fig this colt notched in his last clash tells me he's a key player in today's event. This animal brings in a lot of dough per race. Number one in this clash. FLYING WITH ANGELS - Have to make this gelding a serious competitor; he comes off a nice race on October 29th. DA MONEY - This beautiful animal should be motoring in the stretch. BAKENEKO - I think this gelding is ready to run a good one. He's had enough outings since the layoff and should be fit. Using this jock/handler combination is a good decision. This thoroughbred has increased his speed figures in each of the last 2 races. That kind of progress is telling me this horse is ready.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 TREASURE TRADITION (ML=3/1), #7 HACHURE (ML=6/1), #4 MOHAAFETH (ML=8/1),

TREASURE TRADITION - Just don't figure that he is worth the risk at the probable odds. HACHURE - Hasn't hit the board in any sprint contests recently. Not probable to see him doing it this time either. Would have to advance off that sixth place finish last time out of the box to make an impact here. This vulnerable equine ran a substandard speed figure last time around the track. He shouldn't improve and will probably get beat in today's race running that rating. The very long layoff will probably be the downfall for this pony. MOHAAFETH - No favorable outcomes for this pony in a sprint event over the last couple months tells me that this gelding is in a thorny spot common speed fig last time out at Laurel at 1 1/16 miles. Don't believe this runner will improve too much in today's event.
