The emphasis will firmly be on speed at Ludlow, with decent ground expected and the five competitive handicaps for punters to get stuck into.

Al Cimaglia: Northfield Park Late Pick 4 Analysis

Northfield Park has a 14-race program scheduled with the first post coming at 6:00 PM EST. The $1.00 Late Pick 4 begins in Race 11. The sequence has a $10,000 guaranteed pool, and it will be my focus.

Comments and selections below are based on a fast track.

Race 11

1-Dancin Doug (5-1)-This is a race devoid of form but in context Doug could be the best in here if ready for a big try. Came back with 2 dull efforts after being off about a month, and then took off a couple of weeks and requalified. Drops here and this is the level for success if brings a good try.
3-HP Patriote (12-1)-Ships in from the Meadows and should offer a big price. Has been an all or nothing type when racing here. Has 4 wins in 19 NFLD starts and has missed the board otherwise. Had a 153.4 mark on this oval in 2021.
4-Brother Dick (9/5)-Has been on Lasix for 8 starts without a win. Last picture was back on 9-2 but this HoP invader is still the morning line choice. That tells you something about this field but Merriman steers and that might be enough to get top honors in its NFLD debut.

Race 12

1-Jet J (7/2)-Paced the 2nd half in 58.1 to sweep by down the lane on a sloppy track at this class on 12-1. Has won 2 of 4 on an off-track and will need an alert start but will respect chances of an encore. This 4-year-old may have his way with younger foes.
3-Utica Kid (7/2)-Is often in the mix at the Pomp but this 3-year-old needs a good steer and that doesn't happen on a regular basis. Maybe Lake will work an efficient trip and be fastest down the lane.
7-Marcia (3-1)-Jones the Troyer barn after arriving from Hoosier and will make its NFLD debut. Appears to fit, this conditioner has won 7 of 15 starts the past 30 days and Wrenn should have in play.

Race 13

1-Pound Sign (7-1)-Went off at 6/5, bet down from a 6-1 morning line and burned a lot of cash in last. Caught a pocket trip and the pace collapsed but didn't have strong brush when using the passing lane. The price should be better, and this isn't a loaded field. If brings the same effort as 2 back it could be picture time.
2-Music Is Art (3-1)-Has been in too deep in the last 4 starts but now drops to a spot to shine. Should leave and could take charge and not look back.

Race 14

4-Sawyer's Desire (7/5)-Burke trainee takes a big drop after a start in DTN and will debut at NFLD. Should be a player but the price will be small and has only 2 wins in the last 25 starts. Has a 149.0 mark at HoP and has big gate speed to be put in play early.
5-Wagon Master (5-1)-Had been facing $25-$30K claimers out East and should relish the company. Merriman steers, has raced on 1/2-mile ovals and could offer a fair price. Off-track record is only 1-24 so keep in mind if the weather comes into play.

Picks Notes
#6 She's Got Game She showed some pace before fading in the debut run going a mile, and she took some cash that day as the 8/5 chalk. She gets down in class for this second try while cutting back around one turn. Guessing she can show better here.
#3 Cup of Life She didn't pick up much in the slop last out, but she has been in with better groups and owns a couple of back runs that might be competitive with these. Think she's overbet.
#7 Princess Emma Jo She showed a bit better early foot last time out, but I don't really trust her to run right back to that effort, and the price will get much shorter today than the 61/1 she offered last out.
Race Summary Cup of Life should be tough in this spot, but She's Got Game might be the right one to beat her with. 'Game has some upside in this second career start, and she might be able to flash enough pace to keep up early while cutting back.

Parx Racing - Race #6
Picks Notes
#7 Instafamous He has been knocking on the door with similar, and he's not meeting a whole lot of serious sprint speed in this one. He might be able to control the race from a good outside draw.
#5 Flimflam Man He graduated easily when moving into the Ness barn and making his local debut last out, and he looks like a pretty good fit while rising into this spot to face winners based on his previous tries for a $25,000 tag.
#6 Hoistthemainsail He has kind of a grinding style that leaves him running at one pace late in his races, but his last couple tries have been good enough to think he can land a piece with this group. Tough sell for me on top, but he's a legit gimmicks player.
Race Summary Instafamous has some room to come forward in this second start off the layoff, and he showed some solid pace before settling for second in that last one. He should be prompting any other speed from the outside and seems like the one to beat today.

Parx Racing - Race #8
Picks Notes
#2 Celtic Heart His form can be all over the place, but he has a little bit of tactical pace that might keep him in a perfect spot in a race without a ton of serious speed. Decent chance at a mid-range price.
#4 Maximus Aurelius He took a step forward when trying the turf and getting blinks last out, and he'll try the locals for the first time today while moving back to the main track. Regally bred runner has yet to show serious promise.
#5 Kodapendent He's quick enough to be in the mix early on with these, but I worry he's a bit overbet here considering his lack of a final instinct to finish off races. He can win this, but I'll stand against.
Race Summary Celtic Heart seems playable in here after a useful move around two turns last out. He's fast enough to stay in touch early at this trip, and the price should be right with a couple other more logical players likely to take some cash.

#3 Da Prairie Girl Doesn't have the experience of this group, but her two wins in two starts were good enough to signal that she could be a special kind of filly.
#1 Dipping In Was favored in three of her last four and won none of those, although second in three; likely to be moving well at the end of this.
#2 Mizoney Romped vs. claimers last time and was claimed by Moreno; has been a player in allowance races before.
Race Summary Da Prairie Girl won in easy fashion in both starts and is ready to taken on this level.

Remington Park - Race #7
Picks Notes
#4 High Tone Broke his maiden two back and followed with a good second on turf; capable of carrying success with him as he takes his game from the turf to the dirt.
#8 Violin Maker Was an impressive maiden winner and looks like a horse that would have no problem getting two turns.
#2 Nautical Moon Was second in his last three and makes his first off the claim for Bravo; could secure a perfect trip just off the lead.
Race Summary High Tone was a solid second last out and looks like he can adjust to any pace in this one.

Remington Park - Race #8
Picks Notes
#9 A Real Jewel Set the pace and was caught late going seven furlongs; turning back to six furlongs should be perfect for her.
#2 Bebop Baby Makes his first since July and won a couple of races at Houston early in the year; fits at this level.
#8 Justaboutright Was an easy winner in the Oklahoma Classics Starter for fillies and mares two back and could be troublesome against open company.
Race Summary A Real Jewel has the speed to overcome the post and should be very tough in this six-furlong dash; had a couple of close calls lately and is due to get her picture taken.

We won with the 'over' in the Hornets stunning 130-127 win in Atlanta last night. I won't hesitate to switch gears on Monday, however, as Charlotte returns home undermanned in a tough back-to-back spot against the defensive-minded 76ers. Philadelphia has allowed just 96, 88 and 96 points in its last three games and as I mentioned will get a chance to face a Hornets squad that is missing a number of key contributors due to Covid protocols, not to mention the fact that they're playing on no rest. It's not as if the Hornets were really able to break through offensively at the best of times in this matchup last season, scoring 112, 101 and 111 points in three meetings with the Sixers. Philadelphia did have its way offensively with the Hornets last season but this 76ers squad has struggled to find consistency at that end of the floor, particularly on the road where they average just 103.8 points per game. The Hornets have been a better defensive team at home, where they allow four points per game less and a 3.1% lower field goal percentage compared to their season averages. The 76ers have posted two of their lowest five scoring outputs of the season over their last two games with those contests going 'under' the total by a combined 54 points. Take the under.

I will gladly take my chances with the Spurs as a 8.5-point road dog against the Suns. I think this is the perfect time to sell high on Phoenix. The Suns just had their 18-game winning streak snapped in their last game. That winning streak has helped carry Phoenix through a lot of tough spots during their run. I just think now that they don't have that to play for, they are going to be a little flat for a stretch here.
Not to mention they are still playing without their best player in Devin Booker, who is out with a hamstring injury. Spurs aren't a great team, but they are on a bit of a roll right now. San Antonio has won and covered 4 straight. I just think San Antonio is going to be the more motivated side and we just need them to lose by 8 or less. Give me the Spurs +8.5!

The Portland Trail Blazers are without two of their best players in Damian Lillard (21.5 PPG, 7.8 APG) and Anfernee Simons (12.0 PPG). It's no wonder they have been struggling mightily of late, and they will continue to struggle tonight against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Blazers are just 1-5 SU & 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall with their only victory coming at home against the lowly Pistons. Their last four losses have come by 28, 31, 22 and 15 points. They haven't even been competitive in their last two games without Lillard in upset home losses to the Spurs and Celtics by a combined 59 points.
It's a good time to 'buy low' on the Clippers, who have gone 1-4 SU in their last five games. But they are much healthier than the Blazers right now and should get the job done. They did beat the Lakers before losing on the 2nd of a back-to-back to the Kings last time out, which was predictable.
Los Angeles is 21-9 ATS in its last 30 games following a loss by 6 points or less. Portland is 0-8 ATS in its last eight games as an underdog. The Clippers are 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings. Bet the Clippers Monday.
