Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 6: Plot the Dots #5, 4/1):

Here is a sharp-looking gelding by Uncle Mo that should be ready to fire. I know that 4/1 on the M/L does not seem like much of an “Off-the-Pace” type of play, but I think this one, that is in for a tag, might float upwards. His last 3 races were tough contests at Laurel Park, and with “blinks,” T-Mac aboard, and this class drop, he should win nicely. Mike Trombetta regularly shuttles his runners between New York and Maryland, and I like the look of this one from all angles.

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 8: Dirt, 6F, 10k, 4+):

Here is a race that might not seem like a “feature,” but it offers some major value when it comes to betting … hence, why it makes it into this handicapper’s report. There is a heavy favorite in Linda Rice’s Belle Tapisserie #5 at odds of 1/1. I think that this is one of those “soft” types that might be over bet. I know this conditioner’s claiming record is strong, but remember that this 7-yr-old has not raced since last fall at Churchill Downs, which makes him a bit vulnerable. I like a number of other runners in here, that can help us cash a nice Trifecta tick … My top selection is Oscar Barrera’s Cause of Action #1. This is a gelding by Creative Cause that ran first-out for this barn just over a week ago. He obviously came out of that Clm8k race well, otherwise his conditioner would not be sending him right back to the oval. This is a bump up in class, a touch, but his fitness should be able to carry him through. The aggressive riding of bug boy, Jose Gomez, is going to be aboard. That should make things interesting, especially at the lovely price of 15/1 … nothing like double-digits. As for a pair of other runners that can help us, I also like Jeremiah Englehart’s Speeding Kid #3, and Ed Barker’s Next Flight #8. Both of these entries have experience on the MT, and came out of the same race on 22 January. This should make for an interesting ticket, and there is nothing wrong with trying to beat a heavy favorite … more cash coming our way! Cause for action … indeed!

Right now, trainer Karl Broberg is doing well at Sam Houston, and that should continue. I like that he has brought this colt by Will Take Charge to H-Town. He was part of the contingent that shipped up to Oaklawn Park back in November. The May Valley Farms homebred did not end up even getting close to being in-the-money, but lest we forget, this is a very tough place to play. Running in a MSW84k is not like anywhere else. Open company can be brutal … The best news is that his bloodlines look intriguing on the dam side—More Than Ready in the background. Richard Eramia is perfectly adequate on the grass, and here is his chance to shine. I am hoping for a good price on the tote … 4/1?

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 9: Reunification #10, 8/1):

There was some very sad news this past week … Speightster had to be euthanized due to a fatal injury he suffered in his stall at Northern Dawn Stables in Ontario. An important producer, he will be missed. Here is one of his offspring, a 3-yr-old filly that is trained by Austin Gustafson. She has the benefit of getting her debut race out of the way, and betting on 2nd-outs is an angle that I like to use frequently. Horses in spots like these know what is going on, and can better adjust to pace, speed, and jockey cues. Ry Eikleberry, an expert on the grass who is also having a great Meet so far, gets the call. This is a rider upgrade, to be sure. With a sharp workout under her saddle, she should be a great price come post time. Dare we say it? Double-digit odds … one can hope. More importantly, let’s win one for Speightster … may he rest in peace.

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 7: Turf, 5F, OC50kn2x, F&M 4+):

A “Turf Feature,” on this early evening card is this race—an OC50k sprint on the Connally Lawn. This is an 8-horse field, with a coupled entry that is added. Karl Broberg uses this strategy quite often, and there is no question that either Chikara #1 or Factual #1A can win in a spot like this one. Ry Eikleberry is going to take one of the mounts … and his riding is going along splendidly! The former is a mare by First Samurai that has extensive turf sprinting experience at Remington, while the latter has solid ALLW experience in her corner (plus is bred for the grass by The Factor). While I am afraid of what Eikleberry can do late in the game on this surface, I am much more interested in the exploits of Brent Davidson’s 5-yr-old by Twirling Candy (talk about a turf sire!) … the mare, Lady Gwen #7. This one is finally dropping down into some appropriate company, after a couple of “BT” attempts up in OKC and down in HOU. Gerardo Mora is not the same caliber a rider as Eikleberry, but I am banking on Davidson having his charge ready to fire. She could be quite fit, coming in 3rd off-the-bench. Here is the turf play …

As last Wednesday’s meeting was abandoned after the running of Race 1, there are a couple of big fields this week, making for some strong betting opportunities with online Bookmaker (http://www.bookmaker.eu/?cmpid=4437)s. The track is on the improve and is currently rated a Soft 6, while the rail is in the true position for the entire course. The first race will get underway at 1pm AEST.
Best Bet – Whodat

Matthew Dunn takes four runners to Ipswich on Wednesday, and we are confident that his best winning chance comes up in race two. Whodat gets the services of in-form jockey Ben Thompson, which is a massive advantage given he has ridden 13 winners from his past 50 rides, including a winning double at Doomben on Saturday and four wins on Sunday at the Sunshine Coast. Whodat is in some good form as well, running in the minor money in three of his past four starts. Now second-up, this four-year-old can win over 1666m in this Maiden Plate. The son of Nicconi ran 1.25 lengths behind Atlantic Eagle on January 15 at Doomben, where he savaged the line over 1350m to run second. Atlantic Eagle went on to win nicely on Sunday at the Sunshine Coast, franking that form. From barrier seven, Thompson will have this gelding in a nice spot, and we expect him to relish the cut in the ground and the rise in trip.

Tony Gollan and James Orman combine with Scarlet Pimpernel in a 2150m Benchmark 65. This gelding was frustrating for his followers in his second and third runs this campaign, going down on both occasions as a well-backed favourite, but he did enough in his most recent start to get the job done over 2200m at the Sunshine Coast. The son of Lucas Cranach hasn’t been out of the placings in four starts for Gollan, and although the drop back to 2150m may not be his go, especially around the tighter Ipswich track, we do expect him to be fitter for this on the back of a more genuinely run race. He has drawn awkwardly in barrier seven in the eight-horse field, but he has rarely shown gat speed, as he came from last in his maiden win. He’s good enough to win again and is certainly in the right stable.

We made Real Empress our value pick at Ipswich on January 9, and although she didn’t get the job done first-up, the heavy market support ($9 into $6.50) and encouraging return run were enough for us to want to be on at her next start. The Desleigh Forster-trained four-year-old showed good form over the winter, with runs behind Starosa and Eloquently jumping off the page in some quality three-year-old races. The mare by Real Saga went around here over 1200m first-up, settled last and ran home strongly to finish just 2.2 lengths away in fifth. Jim Byrne rode her that day and will stick on for Wednesday’s ride, which is a big plus. The rise to 1350m should suit given she won her only race over this trip at Doomben last March, while the way she finished off last time out suggested she needed further. From barrier six, Real Empress can settle a pair or two closer in the run and take some real beating.

The son of Shocking holds a nomination for the Australian Guineas and looks perfectly placed to kick off his campaign with a win here. Outside of his debut win, he simply has had zero luck in his career. He was flattened at a crucial time in the VRC Derby trial in September and then chased home a smart field in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes. The step back to a Class 1 is ideal, and considering he has a win at 1400m when first-up in the past, he looks the goods here.

In the opening leg of the quaddie, we will be hoping the Mathew Ellerton-trained Along The River can make it three wins in his past four starts. The three-year-old colt by Written Tycoon chased home a smart duo in Clemenceau and Squid Game at Flemington on January 1. He is six weeks between runs on Wednesday and looks set to appreciate the drop back to a BM64. Despite drawing barrier two, we anticipate Jamie Kah will have Along The River settled in the rear of the field. He needs to lug 61kg but has a sharp turn of foot and should have the last look at them. We are more than happy to take the $2.90 on offer from Ladbrokes.

The Patrick Payne-trained Our Modena returns the Sandown Hillside track and will be hopeful of repeating her winning effort at the track two starts back. The five-year-old mare out of Tavistock beat home subsequent winner Yulong Code when putting two lengths on her rivals here on January 5. We expect Josh Richards will have her settled midfield with cover before charging home over the final 300m. With Richards’ 2kg claim, Our Modena will go around with 58kg, which will only benefit her chances of finishing over the top of her rivals. The $9 from Neds looks a nice price.

Tim Vaughan’s handicapper has run himself fit this winter from a falling handicap mark, and really impressed when landing quite a gamble at Exeter 8 days ago. He travelled strongly from well off the pace there, winning with any amount in hand, and is confidently expected to follow up at Huntingdon on Thursday with conditions to suit.

Harry Eustace’s unexposed 5-y-o posted his best run over hurdles at this track back in May last year when finishing a very good second to the useful Robins Dream, and he should be a lot sharper for his handicap debut on testing ground at Fakenham in December (too free initially under restraint and just faded from the home turn). He will appreciate a return to this right handed track on decent ground, and this represents quite a drop in class under Jack Quinlan.

Aqueduct Horses in Focus for Thursday, February 10

RACE 4: WAHEEL (#6)

Perhaps the first time starters will attract support in this maiden claimer given the lack of credentials among those with prior form. How You Feeling seems like the most dangerous of those. His dam was a decent dirt sprinter who was stakes-placed on synth. She’s produced 4 winning foals from 5 to race, topped by this colt’s full-sister Impazible Donna, an allowance-level NY-bred dirt sprinter. Bruce Levine is 3 for 16 (19%, $2.43 ROI) with first time starters in maiden claiming dirt sprints over 5 years. I prefer him to Joe Gonzalez, who is a full-brother to solid dirt sprinter Dark Money, who has earned over $400k on this circuit. Chris Englehart does a decent job with firsters in maiden claiming events, but I feel that both of these horses could get overbet just because they’re new faces. Among those who have run, He’sgottashortfuse makes some sense. I can be forgiving of the first start, since it came against a tougher maiden special weight field. He didn’t take any money that day and just ran along in mid-pack while sitting in the two-path before fading in the stretch. Jan. 22 was a day that featured a strong rail bias, so he was somewhat hindered by racing off the inside path throughout. My top pick is Waheel. He earned a field-best 81 TimeformUS Speed Figure in his career debut, the only knock being that it came at Finger Lakes. Transferring form from that circuit to NYRA is often easier said than done. However, that race got some validation when the winner returned to finish second next time with an improved figure. Waheel was badly overmatched in his local debut last time in a race dominated by the talented Impressionist. He was also very wide on a day when the inside paths were an advantage. How he gets significant class relief for his third start and will be a handful if he can get back to anything resembling that debut effort.

RACE 5: SUMMER BOURBON (#4)

Gran Casique is the horse to beat as he makes his first start off the claim for Rob Atras. This barn is 13 for 34 (38%, $2.32 ROI) first off the claim in dirt sprints at Aqueduct over the past 5 years, and this runner would be awfully tough to beat if he moves forward for the new barn. He ran well when last seen at a tougher level in December, setting the pace before just getting nailed late by a deep closer. However, he was a vet scratch since then, and now he’s dropping down to the $10k level after over two months off. There are obviously some red flags here, and it’s also a concern that this gelding hasn’t done that much winning throughout his career. Dream Bigger also makes some sense as he drops in class out of a much tougher spot. He was never going to be competitive with an improved Dark Money or the classy Steam Engine last time, but he wasn’t disgraced in finishing fifth. The class relief figures to benefit him, but he will also take some money and it’s not as if his recent form makes him all that formidable. My top pick is Summer Bourbon. He’s coming off a poor effort in his first start off the claim for Mike Miceli, but he didn’t get the right trip. Jan. 22 was one of many days at Aqueduct that featured a strong rail bias, and Summer Bourbon was always two- to three-wide that day. He also seemed to get discouraged early in the race when he was outrun and out of position. This time I’m expecting him to be more forwardly placed. He’s getting needed class relief and I think he’s had subtle excuses in each of his last two starts. Furthermore, Mike Miceli is an excellent 8 for 23 (35%, $3.29 ROI) second off the claim over the past 5 years.

RACE 6: AIR ATTACK (#2)

I’ll be interested to see how the public approaching this confusing $40k claimer. I could see horses like Chris and Dave or Two Thirty Give taking money. The former is coming off a poor effort, but he was facing a much tougher optional claiming field that day and now gets needed class relief. His prior effort, in which he defeated today’s rival Two Thirty Five, makes him a logical player. He’s never had much success going this 9-furlong distance, but he projects to get a good trip either setting the pace or just stalking Pioneer Spirit. Two Thirty Five is another who hasn’t won going 1 1/8 miles, but he’s run well over this trip, placing in graded stakes going this far earlier in his career. He exits a good effort when second to the in-form Hammerin Aamer at this level last time out. He had an excuse for his poor effort two back when he blew the start, and otherwise his form for Jeffrey Englehart is solid. The runner who I’m against at a relatively short price is Plot the Dots. This gelding ran well two back in the Manfuso, but I think the speed figure came up a little high for the horses involved. His two surrounding efforts since returning from a layoff have been poor, and I don’t like that he’s dropping in for a tag for the first time at NYRA – it’s often a sign that connections are trying to get a horse claimed before they really go off form. My top pick is Air Attack. I know his recent form has been abysmal, but the reclaim by Rob Atras has to be respected. In his lone prior start for the Atras barn last year, Air Attack won by nearly 9 lengths with a 113 TimeformUS Speed Figure. He briefly held his form for John Toscano when they ran him back quickly in the Stud Muffin, but he regressed thereafter. He’s always been best going 9 furlongs, so I like him getting back to that distance. Furthermore, Atras is 6 for 14 (43%, $2.83 ROI) first off the claim in 9-furlong dirt routes over the past 5 years. He requires a form reversal to conquer this field, and I think the signs point to that being a real possibility.

#8 Federalist Papers stretches out in distance to a 1 1/2 miles, which should make him hard to handle. He has run well against this type of company in New York. #6 Champagne Ivy gets back to the turf for this race, which looks to be her best surface.

Race 8: Allowance Optional Claiming

#2 Tiger gets back to the dirt today after a poor effort over the synthetic last time out. This is his best surface by far. #4 Braccio Di Ferro can pull the upset today as he takes a nice drop in class for this race.

Race 9: Maiden Special Weight

#12 Watch It will make her debut in this spot for Todd Pletcher, with Luis Saez aboard, which has been a deadly combination all meet long. #1 Fast as Flight will move back to the turf for this race after running on the synthetic surface last time out.

#5 Mr. Universe Thinking he might offer a decent enough mid-range price on the big class drop here, and there are enough forward players signed on to think this race might set up for someone like this guy to come along late to land this.
#2 Janets Jay Jay He's a decent enough fit with these on his better days, and he should be able to land a really nice trip spying the pace while tucked in behind the more committed frontrunners.
#6 Deer Crossing He has some upside on the move back to the grass after a modest effort on the main track last out. He's quick enough to be in range, but he can also rate enough to think he doesn't have to get caught up with the other early players.
Race Summary Mr. Universe exits a soft Grade I, but a Grade I all the same when last seen at Arlington, and he should get a pretty decent go of things from off the splits given the likely race shape. Hoping all the pace shows up.

Fair Grounds - Race #4
Picks Notes
#6 Spectrolite He faded without much resistance last time out, but he has some room to improve off that comeback effort, and he's quick enough to have a go for the front end here. Think he'll show up today.
#5 Just Blaze He has been a pretty reliable closing type in his more recent turf races, and he was a nice winner with similar a couple starts back. He has typically been pretty tough over the local course, and he's one of the clear ones to fear late.
#4 Hug the Munny A cleaner go might give him a better chance this time around, and he owns a couple of pretty nice back turf tries that might keep him in the mix here.
Race Summary Spectrolite can step forward in this second try off the layoff, and he might be quick enough to find the front and dare the rest of them to keep up today. Something like the 4/1 ML price would feel fair.

Fair Grounds - Race #6
Picks Notes
#4 Vasilevskiy He showed a little bit of positional pace in the debut try, and that might serve him well in this second start. There isn't a ton of serious early burn signed on in here, so he should be able to land the kind of trip that gives him first jump on some other threats.
#2 Co Conspirator He was a no show in the debut after a tough start, and he immediately gets into an easier spot here while dropping in for a tag in this second try. Wouldn't be a surprise to see him step forward.
#5 Stockpiler Think he has some upside while moving to the turf after showing little in the Oaklawn debut, as he brings a decent pedigree for the new footing and gets some class relief while trying the local crew today.
Race Summary Vasilevskiy should be in line for a really good trip while tracking what pace there is in here, and he seems really competitive with these with any kind of move forward in this second start.

BetOnline (http://partners.commission.bz/processing/clickthrgh.asp?btag=a_36640b_127) has a decent card for Thursday with nine racecourses for wagering. Aqueduct Racetrack and Fair Grounds are the most notable tracks in action, and then there’s Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach with ponies.

There is no stakes racing on the agenda on this card, with a pretty big stakes race scheduled for Saturday in Arkansas. The running of the $600,000 Razorback Handicap (Gr. 3) will take place at Oaklawn Park Saturday afternoon.

Race 5 runs for 6 furlongs on the dirt for a $28,000 purse. Dream Bigger and Gran Casique are bound to cause some noise in this one.

Dream Bigger is 4 for 16 in his career and has finished 4th, 6th, 1st, 5th in his last four outings. He struck two races back in a $35,000 assignment.

Dream Bigger beat Dark Money by a half-length in a pretty good attempt. After that assignment, he finished 5th for a $50,000 purse on January 27.

That attempt drops Dream Bigger back down in class to an easier race. Gran Casique should be the most likely to disrupt him.

Gran Casique is 3 for 25 and dropping in grade as well. He’s finished 2nd, 5th, 2nd, 7th in his last four. After placing 2nd behind Cantrell Hill by 1 ¼ lengths in a $39,000 event, Gran Casique struggled in 7th on December 3 in the same class.

Down to 6 furlongs, Gran Casique should appreciate this distance better. I like the No. 3 from the inside.

Race 7 is the feature race at Aqueduct Racetrack. A $74,000 purse with 1 ⅛ miles of racing is on the agenda in this one.

Hush of a Storm and Blewitt should be in top form for this event. Blewitt is going to have valid claims from the outside.

He is running in consistent form and has to be considered in this spot. Blewitt is looking at a hat-trick opportunity on Thursday after a win on November 19 and December 31.

Blewitt scored a 13 ½ length blowout win in the November race. He torched the field for a $28,000 purse in wire-to-wire fashion.

That was much too easy. In his next assignment, Blewitt won again, this time a $50,000 win by 3 lengths. Continuing to go up in class, he should be competitive in this one, too.

Hush of a Storm might have something to do in the stretch. He has finished in the top-3 in five of his last six, most of which are stakes races.

In his most recent, Hush of a Storm showed 3rd in the $100,000 Prairie Bayou Stakes on December 18. Given the level of difficultly, he should find this much easier. He’s been in some tough races, including the Blue Grass Stakes (Gr. 2) at Keeneland in April.

On a class drop, expect Hush of a Storm to be too much for Blewitt in the stretch. This is one of his easiest races in a while.

Race 8 is a 6-furlong event for a $28,000 purse. Consider a look at Speeding Kid and Belle Tapisserie to go to the winner’s circle in this one.

Speeding Kid is 4 for 33 and has finished in the top-3 in eight of his last nine races. However, he hasn’t been to the winner’s circle. It has consistently been showing 3rd most of the time.

Speeding Kid most recently showed 3rd on January 22 in a $39,000 event. The class drop to $28,000 should possibly help put him over the top on Thursday.

Belle Tapisserie is 13 for 38 in his career, and has finished 1st, 7th, 2nd in his last three. The gelding had a 1 ½ length $60,000 win on August 31, but fell out of form in his next go.

Belle Tapisserie finished 7th on September 24 for a $68,000 prize. After that outing, he did much better in his most recent try.

He placed 2nd behind Frolic More by 2 ¾ lengths in a $52,000 event on November 6 at Churchill Downs to put him back in competitive standing. Belle Tapisserie could run in that grade and have success, but he’s dropping to $28,000 on Thursday.

This looks like a good spot for the No. 5 to get in at the wire in this class.

We are off and running on Thursday on the racetrack. BetOnline has a good selection with at least nine racecourses available for wagering. You can find the likes of Aqueduct, Fair Grounds, Gulfstream Park, and Laurel Park racing on Thursday.

The first race at Fair Grounds Race Course covers 5 ½ furlongs on the synthetic track for a $28,000 purse. Expect Back Alley Jammin and Ry Dont Lie to play a role in the stretch run in this one.

Back Alley Jammin has finished 4th, 7th in two attempts. In his debut, he finished 4th for a $15,000 purse on January 8. That was a pretty good look from Back Alley Jammin.

Following that attempt, Back Alley Jamming finished 7th in another $17,000 event on January 30. Disappointing work from Back Alley Jamming, but he’s capable of much better.

Ry Dont Lie is showing improvement through two races. He finished 4th on debut December 18 in a $15,000 assignment.

The gelding showed 3rd on January 21 for a $17,000 prize on January 21. Ry Dont Lie is open to improvement and has easy competition ahead of him today.

Despite not coming up with a win in those two races, he battled and might find this one easier on Thursday. The No. 1 is certainly worth considering against this field.

Aw Shucks is 4 for 37 with a good chance to make this outing a win on Thursday. He has finished 2nd, 1st, 4th, 2nd in his previous four races.

If Aw Shucks continues running in his recent form, this should be a good opportunity for him. Aw Shucks came through with a 2 length win for a $15,000 purse on December 9.

He looked good in his latest race two outings later as well. Aw Shucks placed 2nd behind Cryptozonic by a head in a $19,000 race.

That was a tough loss, but Aw Shucks should have enough in the tank to navigate past this competition. Expect him to put in a good effort with the best chance of a win.

Pirate Rick is 2 for 13 and is coming off a 4 length win on January 7 for a $63,000 purse. That was a solid run for Pirate Rick after finishing 2nd, 8th, 7th, 3rd in his last four.

Before the win, Pirate Rick showed 3rd in a $64,000 event. My problem with Pirate Rick is that he can be inconsistent. He’s fully capable of winning this, but which gelding shows up in this one?

Tulane Tryst might be more trustworthy in this one. He has finished 2nd, 1st, 2nd, 5th, 5th, 1st in six races.

Tulane Trust most recently won a $127,000 event by 2 ¾ lengths on November 20. That was a tremendous attempt from Tulane Tryst.

He finished 5th on October 14 for an $86,000 purse before striking for the win. Tulane Tryst has top-class experience, with an appearance in the $400,000 Woody Stephens Stakes (Gr. 1) on June 5.

Against this field, Tulane Tryst should have the upper hand. If he doesn’t win then it will be a disappointment for the $310,000 colt. I think Tulane Tryst has this one, though.

I like the spot for the Indiana State Sycamores tonight. They are coming off a 56-65 home loss to Evansville as 9-point favorites on Tuesday. Now they will be out for revenge and don't have to wait long to get it as they travel to face the Purple Aces as 4-point favorites here Thursday.
Indiana State went 0-for-17 from 3-point range in that first meeting Tuesday. It's safe to say that isn't going to happen again tonight. Evansville shot 50% as a team and 40% from 3-point range, and that is also unlikely to get repeated considering they shoot 39.5% and 31.7% on the season, respectively.
The favorite is 5-1-1 ATS in the last seven meetings. The Sycamores are 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight games vs. a team with a winning % below .400. Indiana State won't be taking Evansville lightly tonight after just getting upset by them. Look for a big effort from the Sycamores and a blowout win in their favor. Bet Indiana State Thursday.

I'll take my chances with the Nets as a 3-point road dog against the Wizards on Thursday. I've made some money fading Brooklyn during their current 9-game losing streak that has seen them go just 1-8 ATS, but this is a spot where I think the value is with the Nets.
It feels like there's a good chance that a Harden/Simmons trade will take place before the deadline today, but that doesn't figure to hamper the Nets much for this game. Harden has missed the last few games and hasn't been a huge factor when he's been on the floor.
I actually think it's the Wizards who could be the ones that are shuffling for this game. Washington figures to be a team looking to sell at the deadline. Either way this is not a good Wizards team with Bradley Beal out of the lineup. Washington is just 1-8 in their last 9 and are just 2-14 ATS over their last 16 games. I just don't think they should be laying points here. Give me the Nets +3!

Bobby Hurley (a member of the "Coaching Hurleys") came to Arizona St for the 2015-16 season. His six-year record (entering this season) was 104-83. After leading the Sun Devils to three straight 20-win seasons, last year's team flopped to 11-14 (7-10 Pac 12). Washington head coach Mike Hopkins (longtime Jim Boeheim assistant) came to Washington for the 2017-18 season but after winning 21 and 29 games his first two seasons, fell to 15-17 the next season and all the way to 5-21 (4-16 Pac 12) last season. ASU visits Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle at 7-14 (3-8 Pac 12) to take on a Washington team that is 12-9 (7-4 Pac 12).
Arizona State took an early season hit when returning guard Bagley (10.8 PPG) was lost to a knee injury after just THREE games (was averaging 10.4). Horne (13.1), Heath (10.2) and Jackson (9.2) have taken up the slack in the backcourt. 6-6 SF Lawrence (10.7 & 7.1 and the 6-9 Graham (8.6 & 4.4) are the lone frontcourt players of note. Arizona is averaging a woeful 64.2 PPG (321st) on 38.9% shooting (351st).
Washington guard Terrell Brown (22.0-4.1-4.2) leads the conference in scoring and has scored in double figures in every outing this season. The 6-7 Matthews (11.1 & 5.0) joins him in double digits, while a trio of guards round out the team's main contributors. That group includes Bey (8.9 & 3.8), Davis (7.8) and Fuller (7.8).
Washington is 5-1 SU and ATS its last six home games and I see no reason why the Huskies won't win AND cover, with this 'cheap' line against offensively challenged Sun Devils.
