4th race [NY, Alw 72000 N1X, 1 mi] – (1) Forty Two Ace (C) set the pace and finished second under similar circumstances when he was bet down from 7-2 to 9-5. (2) Jade’s Dream (B) was last seen in May racing on the grass at Belmont Park when he broke his maiden while overcoming a poor trip. (4) Cut the Cord was a debut winner in the fall against open company at Finger Lakes and then tried stakes races against NY-breds at Aqueduct twice. (6) Straight Skinny was claimed out of a more than four length win for $25,000 by Tom Morley who does well with his new horses.
5th race [Md 20000, 6F] – (6) Run White Rabbit came back from a layoff to show some speed and finish fourth at this level. (4) Pipito was fractious at the gate but still broke well and pressed the pace to eventually finish third which was a big improvement in his first start after a claim. (11) Bird Ruler has been off since May and drops down with past races that could win against this group. (1) Hot Latte will make his first career start as a 4-year-old for Rudy Rodriguez as one who sold for $350,000 as a yearling.
6th race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 6 Â½ F] – (4) Tin Pan Alley (B) debuted at Saratoga for Chad Brown at odds of 9-2 and finished second after racing greenly. (7) Modern Midas (A) got squeezed back in his first start and also raced greenly as he finished fourth. (12) Eminency has a pair of seconds in three starts but he will have to overcome the outside post. (10) Touch of a Buzz will make his first start for trainer Kelly Breen who is good with his debut runners.
9th race [Cicada, 6F] – (2) Sweet Solare (C) broke her maiden in her second try on a sloppy track at Aqueduct last month. In her debut, she ran third behind another filly that is in the Cicada field. (6) Lady Scarlet ran second in her second start behind the champion Echo Zulu at Saratoga. Later in the year, she was claimed for $150,000 when she got her maiden win at Churchill Downs. She won an allowance at Oaklawn Park in her most recent start in February. (4) Lady Milagro has plenty of early speed which she used to win a starter allowance at Aqueduct by more than seven lengths. Before that she set the pace and got third in the Ruthless but that was at seven furlongs. She is the only horse in the field with any success in a stake. (3) Exxaltress broke her maiden in her second try for Chad Brown at Aqueduct in January. She was a $350,000 2-year-old purchase.

#801 ASA FREE PLAY ON VCU +5 over Wake Forest, Saturday at 4 PM ET - Wake advanced to the 2nd round of the NIT by beating Towson at home by 10 points. The Deacs shot nearly 50% from the field in that game (Towson shot 35%) and went to the FT line 29 times to just 16 for the Tigers. They did that vs a defense that ranks outside the top 100 in efficiency. We highly doubt they’ll have that level of success in this game vs a VCU defense than ranks 6th nationally in efficiency, 8th in eFG% allowed, and 4th in 3 point % allowed. Another strength of this Ram defense is their ability to create turnovers. They do it very well causing opponents to give the ball away 25% of the time which is 4th nationally. WF doesn’t protect the ball very well ranking 222nd in TO percentage so we expect a number of extra offensive possessions for VCU. One of VCU’s weaknesses offensively is they turn the ball over a lot as well. However, Wake is not a defense that creates TO’s so that shouldn’t hurt the Rams as much as it might have vs a more aggressive type defense. VCU has been fantastic on the road (9-2 SU record) as well as a big money maker as an underdog (8-2 ATS this season). The top rated team in the A10, Davidson, we have rated almost identical to this Wake Forest team. VCU went to Davidson and won as a 3 point dog. Now they are getting 5 points which we feel is some nice value. The Rams will gave the Demon Deacons all they can handle here. Take the points.

The Key: The Providence Friars are playing with a chip on their shoulder due to everyone calling them overrated. They beat South Dakota State handily last round as a 2.5-point favorite, and now they are only 2.5-point favorites against Richmond. Keep in mind Richmond was a double-digit underdog to Iowa and pulled the upset. Now they are only 2.5-point underdogs to Providence. This is too big of an adjustment as Iowa isn't that much better than Providence. The price is right to pull the trigger on the Friars. They are 26-5 this year and legitimately one of the best teams in the country. At some point, the Spiders are going to run out of gas after playing 4 games in the Atlantic 10 Tournament and 5 consecutive games that went down to the wire. This may just be the spot. The Friars are 21-6 ATS in their last 27 games against a team that wins at least 60% of their games. Take Providence.

The Gaels were a lot more impressive in their first round victory over Indiana than UCLA was in their come from behind win over Akron. The Gaels were just one of three teams to beat the #1 ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs this season. The Gaels are 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games as a favorite. St. Mary's shot over 51 percent from the field and over 47 percent from three-point range in their first round win. The Bruins scored just 57 point on 35.2 percent shooting against Akron. They will need to be a lot better if they want to survive the next round.

I won't hesitate to go back to the well with the same play here as the Blueshirts head to Tampa to face the Lightning on Saturday. Here, we'll note that the 'under' is 10-3 with the Rangers playing on the road off a home loss against a division opponent over the last two seasons, as is the case here, leading to an average total of just 5.1 goals. Better still, the 'under' is 13-2 with New York coming off a game in which four or fewer total goals were scored this season, resulting in just 4.8 total goals on average in that spot. The Arkansas Razorbacks are 16-3 SU & 14-4-1 ATS in their last 19 games overall. They beat Vermont 75-71 as 4.5-point favorites to fail to cover the spread. But keep in mind they were without their best player in JD Notae (18.9 PPG) for most of the first half due to foul trouble. New Mexico State pulled the upset over UConn and is now getting a lot of love. I think we are getting the Razorbacks at a short price here as only 6.5-point favorites. Arkansas is 17-8 ATS in its last 25 games off an ATS loss. The Razorbacks will force the Aggies to play at their break-neck pace in this one and create havoc, which they are so good at doing. New Mexico State prefers to play at a slow tempo but won't be able to when they get behind big early. Give me Arkansas.

I'll take my chances with New Mexico State as a 6.5-point dog against Arkansas in the Round of 32. The Aggies were extremely impressive in Thursday's 70-63 upset over UConn. I not only think they can keep it within the number against the Razorbacks, but I give them a realistic shot here of winning this game outright.
Arkansas had their hands full in their first game, barely scraping by with a 75-71 win against Vermont. A difference in that game was the Razorbacks being able to get to the free throw line 25 times and making 20. Aggies only sent UConn to the line 13 times. If they can limit Arkansas on the line, Arkansas could really have a hard time scoring in this game. Razorbacks don't shoot the 3-ball well and New Mexico State can hold their own inside.
New Mexico State is 14-4 ATS this season when playing against a team that's won 60% to 80% of their games, 10-3 ATS vs a top tier defense that is holding teams to 42% or worse shooting and a perfect 10-0 ATS vs teams who are outscoring opponents by 8+ points/game. Give me the Aggies +6.5!

GALOPIN GOURMET - Was in a Maiden Special race at Golden Gate Fields in the last race. That event had a class rating of 85 and he is moving down in this event. A certain strong challenger. 69-74-78 are last 3 speed figs. Improving each time out is something he should do again right here in this race. When a pony drops at least five lbs (like this one is), you must take notice. It may not seem like much, but this could make a difference. GALAN GRAY - The jockey/handler duo of Ayuso and Steiner has a strong return on investment together. This horse could be tough in this race, especially since Ayuso rode in the last race and now should be familiar with this one. Steiner gets a break on this thoroughbred carrying 6 pounds less than last out. Could be helpful today. The addition of blinks should keep his mind on business today.

UNION WAVE - Not likely that this horse will finish better than he did last time out of the box when ending up third. LESSONS OF AUTISM - I find it hard to support any pony in a short distance race if he hasn't hit the board in a sprint in the last 60 days. Just cannot bet on any horse right back after he doesn't finish in the money after any extended time off.
