The Mets are trying to hold off the surging Braves who now are just 2.5 games back in the NL East division. The Mets will start Taijuan Walker today. Walker is 7-2 in his 15 starts with a 2.63 ETA. Walker has not allowed more than three runs in any of his last six starts. The Cubs look to snap a 7-game losing streak here today. Chicago was swept in LA and then returned home and was swept by Baltimore. Marcus Stroman will make his 11th start with a 2-5 record and 4.51 ERA. 3rd race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (8) Rush to Honor (B) twice entered to run on the turf including most recently at Belmont Park when he raced six-wide, got the lead, and finished second on a sloppy track. (4) Biondi has shown plenty of early speed this year when setting the pace and hitting the board both times. The blinkers will come off now which might help him relax on the lead. (6) Uragano made an improved effort in his first start on the grass last time for Kelly Breen. (1) Your Mission returns from a winter layoff for Todd Pletcher as a new gelding with first-time Lasix.
4th race [Md 20000, 6F] – (1) Actualize, who was claimed originally for $40,000 from his debut, will now drop down from four starts at the maiden special weight level. In five starts he has yet to run on a fast track. (7) Suppressor ran 11 days ago following a couple of months off, set the pace, and finished third. He will drop down a notch. (8) Marco Polo tried the turf after getting claimed for $50,000 by Linda Rice and now moves back to the main track where he has a pair of seconds. (6) Just Like This debuted on the grass for Brad Cox going a mile and now cuts back in distance, gets blinkers on, and first-time Lasix.
6th race [NY, OC45/N2X, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (7) Ruse (B) broke through the gate, got the lead, and then missed the win by only a nose in a similar spot at Belmont. (3) Ghost Giant ran against open company for his last three starts and moves back to NY-bred competition while exercising the claiming option. He was second by a neck the last time he ran at this level. (5) Straw Into Gold was second at this allowance condition in his last two starts which were for Christophe Clement. Have to make this filly a contender; she comes off a solid race on Jun 24th. I'MANIMPERIALGIRL - I like to bet on this angle, a thoroughbred coming back off a good effort within the last month. GET BAKK - Dropped down in class last time out, and keeps in that lower class level today. A good sign this animal is comfortable and ready to go. This filly is number one in earnings per start. This is a play on the SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS for our Saturday Free Play. San Francisco is coming off an improbable win last night as it trailed the Brewers 5-2 entering the ninth inning but a pair of solo home runs started the scoring and then Mike Yastrzemski completed the comeback with a grand slam and the Giants carry that momentum into Saturday. They moved to three games over .500 on the season including a 24-22 record at home while now sitting two games out of the final Wild Card spot in the National League. Winners of five of their last seven games, the Giants have a great opportunity to close the first half on a decent run to get ready for what looks like a crowded group trying to get into the postseason. Alex Cobb had a rough ending to May but has been pretty solid over his last six starts with a 3.74 ERA and this will be the 12th straight start where he has been favored but it is the second shortest price over that stretch. San Francisco is 61-43 in its last 104 games against the money against National League teams averaging 4.5 or more rpg on the season. Milwaukee is now just two games ahead of St. Louis in the National League Central as it has lost six of its last nine games. Closer Josh Hader blew a game in his second straight appearance after allowing a three-run walk-off home run against the Twins on Wednesday and likely will not be available tonight. Eric Lauer gets the ball tonight and has put together three straight decent starts but he has been killed by the long ball as he has allowed 10 home runs over his last six outings and on the road, he has a 5.25 ERA in nine starts.
