In the Co-Main Event Saturday night, Chris Curtis faces Jack Hermansson…

Since entering the UFC 3 fights ago, Chris “The Action Man” Curtis has exploded onto the scene. Going 3-0 in the organization after time in PFL and CES MMA. Impressively defeating three tough opponents… knocking out Phil Hawes and Brendan Allen then most recently earning a decision victory against Rodolfo Vieira. Sooooo what's the common thread all these past opponents and Jack Hermansson have in common? Answer: They're all highly skilled on the mat with an inability getting the fight there. Statically speaking all struggled with takedown success: Allen (41%) and Vieira (27%). While Hermansson's right there supporting a (30%) takedown success rate. The main importance of this is Chris Curtis has a stellar takedown defense and scrambling ability. This massively increases chances this fight stays standing utilizing strength and technique consistently working out of danger. Against a guy like Hermansson who's main path is grappling doesn't line up well for him. Not a chance Jack's willing to stand and strike. Issue is many times these takedown shots appear desperate or not well timed. Cardio isn't an issue for either, but as fights wears on Hermansson's shots continue to get sloppy. Chris should be able to muscle himself out of clinching situations creating space. If fight left on feet… Hermansson's in a world of trouble. Against a highly explosive fighter with a strong boxing foundation and heavy-handed shots against the suspect striking defense of Jack. Leaves an uphill climb for Jack adding in the fact that Curtis will also push the pace. Sloppy combinations tucking behind a level change just won't work against The Action Man. Also, like how Curtis doesn't head hunt. Many times, investing in the body early mixing it up. This opens up other options to target.
