My selection in this race is RAMBLIN V EIGHT. Has quite good early pace and will most likely fare admirably against this group. Had one of the most respectable Equibase Speed Figures of this group in her last competition. Ought to be considered here on the basis of the figs in the speed section alone. DAENERYS TARGARYEN - Is a solid contender based on figs posted recently under today's conditions. Had one of the strongest speed figures of this group in her last contest. DCR MISS DOUBTFIRE - This equine has to be in sound condition coming back to race so soon. Had one of the best Speed Figures of this group in her last contest.

DREAMER'S DELIGHT - Taking a trip down the ladder based on class rating points; has the form to make his presence felt. This horse is at the top in earnings per start. He looks strong in today's affair. ROBERT WHO - Roman and Tracy perform well when they work together. It's hard to beat a +130 ROI for a rider and trainer. The rest of the bunch may trail this thoroughbred all the way around the track. Gelding has shown some pace. This shorter trip should be better for him. Taking a drop in class figure points from his July 18th race at Prairie Meadows. Based on that key piece of info, I will give this one the edge.

I like SUGAR BEETS here. Has to be given a chance versus this group of animals displaying solid numbers as of late and an average speed figure of 78 under similar conditions. I like the jockey on this gelding - quite good chance to win the contest. Could best this group based on the Equibase Speed Figure - 76 - of his last race. GOVERNOR ARTHUR - Recently Roman has been hot which may give the edge to this gelding. Should be given a shot in here if only for the quite good Equibase speed fig recorded in the last competition. TWIRLING DERBY - Trainer boasts very strong win figs at this distance and surface. Exhibits the look of a lucrative play, averaging a solid 70 speed fig which is one of the most favorable in this group of horses.

1st race – (3) Jackstown makes his career debut for Baffert off a sharp bullet work and will be hard to deny. (8) Abeliefinthislivin closed nicely for second in his debut and seems like the main threat. (6) Massimo is another Baffert firster with bullet works who merits respect. (5) Giovinazzo might benefit from the addition of blinkers. Betting strategy: 3 to win, place. Exacta box: 3-5-6-8. Doubles: 3-5-6-8 with 1-3-4.
2nd race – (3) Laurel River turned in a huge winning effort at this meet last year. Hasn’t run since then but is working quickly for Baffert for his comeback. 1st race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 7F] – (2) Truancy (A) finished second in her debut for Barclay Tagg after getting bumped around three times during the race. Tagg rarely wins with firsters. (1) Voleuse moved from turf to dirt and finished second for Christophe Clement after having an awkward start. (3) Eau Claire will move from the grass after three starts for Arnaud Delacour. Last time she had the lead and finished fourth. Now, she will get Lasix for the first time and cutback to a one-turn race. Delacour has very good stats for the surface change. (6) Photon will make her second start for Kelly Breen after a fifth in her debut at odds of 5-1 after some gate trouble.
4th race [NY, Alw 95000 N1X, 6F] – (6) Daufuskie Island won an open company starter allowance earlier in the month at Belmont in his first start since Charlie Baker claimed her. She won her career debut at Saratoga last summer. (7) Tap’n de Bank broke his maiden in April and came back to miss the allowance win by a neck after having the lead for the hot Brad Cox barn. (5) Street Tsar won his debut by a nose on July 3 for Todd Pletcher. (3) Colormepazzi has three improving speed figures with a second last time at Belmont in a similar spot.
5th race [OC 62k/N2X, 1 3/8 mi TURF] – (6) Capital Structure (A) was hard to handle early while under heavy restraint and had to steady twice as the even money favorite in her 2022 debut for Chad Brown. (5) Forever Dreaming will make her first start since moving to barn of Wayne Lukas. SARATOGA SPOTLIGHT RACES:
First Race – Post: 1:05 ET
Top Pick: 6-Photon (9/2)
Sophomore filly was eliminated at the break but then did quite well to rally without undue pressure to be a much better-than-looked fifth (beaten eight lengths) in her debut at Belmont Park earlier this month. She’s come back to train quite well for Kelly Breen (solid stats with the second-time starter angle), so if she leaves with her field today the daughter of Bayern seems certain to produce a significant forward move. She is listed at 9/2 on the morning line and will offer excellent wagering value at or near that price. The logical favorite, Truancy, must be used as well. Second in her debut while nine lengths clear of a next-out winner, the Barclay Tagg-trained filly has every right to produce a better effort today and at 7/5 on the morning line is clearly the one to fear most.

Top Pick: 4-Be Your Best (10-1)
In an unclassified field of juvenile fillies two-turning on turf, anything goes, so let’s shoot for a price. This first-timer goes for a barn whose maidens often run better than they work, and this Irish-bred filly has looked pretty nice in her morning activity, including a good gate drill a couple of weeks back in which she displayed a degree of early speed and an economical, smooth stride. She is listed at 10-1 on the morning but could easily drift higher, so in a race in which there are no standouts this Horacio De Paz-trained filly may have a chance to pull off a shocker. Others in the field that could participate in the exotics include 1-Candle, from the first crop of City of Light with a solid series of drills for Shug; the Chad Brown-trained 10-Free Look, who has done some good work in the morning but must leave from the extreme outside post, and 8-Ticker Tape Home, a reasonable runner-up in her debut at Woodbine earlier this month.

Led Twenty Six Black (same time) most of the way in team gate drill without really being asked at any stage, steady splits, finishing with something left. Hard to gauge (makes debut long on the lawn) but showed good quickness leaving the barrier so we suspect she’ll be prominent throughout. Nice-actioned filly should handle the turf.

Asked a bit inside Mrs. Macomber (same time) and was second best with a moderate final quarter mile in :25.2. Certainly bred to be much better on grass (and will have to be); probably best to see one first.

Head-and-head inside with Conseillante (same time) for C. Brown and was going the easier of the two before galloping out well in front in sharp drill around dogs while gearing up for debut. Daughter of Tapit hasn’t recorded any flashy times but has ability and should be more than fit enough by now.

Splurge (July 22, Saratoga, 5f, 1:02.4h). Grade: B-
Finished far ahead of Run For Cover (same time) while coming the final quarter mile in :47.3 (ridden some late) after just galloping leaving the pole during the opening furlong. Was eight lengths in front at the end of the work, so she should have gotten a much faster (1:01 flat on our watches). Daughter of Goldencents finished third in her debut in Florida last month after a poor start and seems likely to improve if she can leave with her field.

Showed good quickness leaving the gate to lead Hoax (same time) early but was taken in hand and allowed to drop back after the opening furlong (trailed by a length), then moved up again along the rail to draw clear by a couple of lengths when eased up after a half mile in sharp spin while gearing up for debut. Daughter of Into Mischief clearly has good zip but really hasn’t been allowed to show it yet). Looks like a very live item first time out for T. Pletcher.

Broke well and was ridden from the gate to be head-and-head inside Banterra (same time) but began to weaken entering the turn and dropped back to be clearly second best by almost a length when eased up (workmate not asked much). Good final time but was hoping for more late punch.

Broke off a couple of lengths behind Three Jokers (same time), engaged that one outside entering the lane and was under stout restraint in the final furlong to prove best by a head (could have been a lot more) while looking quite sharp, final quarter mile in :23.4. Flopped in Dubai but clearly is back on the beam. Major player in the Amsterdam Stakes.

Easy solo breeze, final quarter mile in :23.4 while striding out nicely in the closing stages. Seems as good as he’s ever been but hasn’t won a race in almost a year (eight races back). Should fire a good shot in the Amsterdam.

Quite keen early and was under stout restraint through the lane while even with Early Voting (same time) while perhaps a tad the best over Preakness winner (neither one permitted to show their best stuff). Won his debut very impressively, could be any kind for C. Brown. We’ll find out what he’s made of in the Amsterdam.

Under strong restraint early outside Provocateur (same time), remained well in hand entering the lane but was slightly second best at the wire under very light coaxing (workmate never asked). Here’s a promising juvenile colt making his debut over a distance of ground and has done everything in the morning like a true route performance, settling and then finishing and then galloping out strongly in all of his works. The son of Union Rags projects to the enjoy a ground-saving trip and then have every chance to turn it on from the quarter pole to the wire. He’s listed at 6-1 on the morning line and in a race that doesn’t appear too deep that price is worth taking in the win pool and in the various rolling exotics. The one he’ll have to worry about the most is 10-Excess English, outside draw and all. The Slam Dunk Racing homebred has been given a proper foundation by turf master Phil D’Amato to be fit and ready for a mile first time out and over a turf course he’s bred to love the son of English Channel should be especially dangerous.
Eighth Race: Post: 5:37 PT
Top Pick: 2-Home Cooking (5/2)
Has trained like the proverbial rocket ship for Bob Baffert and should come out firing in this maiden juvenile filly dash. Purchased for $260,000 OBS March Sale, where she sizzled a furlong in 9 4/5 seconds during the preview session, the daughter of Honor Code looks cranked up and ready to win right now and almost certainly will go lower on the tote than her morning line of 5/2. For added value, we’ll use her in the various rolling exotics and as an exacta key with another promising newcomer, 8-Kissed By Fire, who is listed at 12-1 on the morning like and based on what we’ve seen of her in the morning seems considerably better than that.

Baffert and was a tad the best, though it was really tough to separate them as they were stride-for-stride most of the way, splits of :23.2, :34.3, :46.3 and :58.4 on our watches, a couple of ticks slower than given, both under some urging late. Jackstown may be the quicker of the two, but Massimo might be a bit stronger late. Both are quite fit and should be formidable first time out.

Laurel River (July 17, Santa Anita, 6f, 1:11h). Grade: A-
Broke off inside Defunded (same time) and went fast throughout, splits of :23.2, :46.1 and 1:11.1 on our watches while being ridden through the lane but losing just a bit of steam late to be a half-length back at the wire (workmate went out an extra furlong). Returned to drill 1:10 2/5 from the gate six days later, so Baffert has really put the hammer to him for his first race in 11 months.

Always a good worker and was breezing throughout in solo drill while traveling out to the 7/8 pole, splits of :23.4, :47.4 and 1:00.2 on our watches. Was eased in the Triple Bend S.-G2 last time out but looked none the worse for wear here. Questionable over a distance of ground unless he can establish the pace.

0Nice work by unraced son of Union Rags, breaking off a length behind Precision Strike (same time) and then drawing clear in the final stages to the wire before continuing out to 7/8 pole without being asked, slow early but nice late, splits of :24.3, :48.1 and 1:01 flat, a full second faster than given on our watches. Definitely a route type and appears to have a touch of quality for D. O’Neill. Looks fit enough, good prospect.

In blinkers, broke off a couple of lengths behind Dazzlingdominika (5f, 1:01h TT) and Comanche Country (5f, 1:01.2h TT) and finished under the wire third best (but only a half-length back) while making steady progress under urging in the closing stages, decent enough for juvenile colt who is bred to run long on the lawn and is being trained to do just that. Definitely a win-early type; daughter of Honor Code brought $260,00 at the OBS March sale smoking a furlong in the preview session in 9 4/5 seconds.

Broke off a couple of lengths behind Cathkin Peak (5f, 1:02.4h TC DU) and finished a short head behind outside at the wire, mild coaxing only. Decent work but was expecting him to go on by but ‘Peak was able to hold him at bay. Gets tested for class in the Eddie Read S.

Very light coaxing in smooth main track drill, plenty left, final half in :48 and small change. Freshened and doing very well, most effective as the controlling speed.

Hong Kong Harry (July 17, Santa Anita, 5f, 1:01.4h TT). Grade: B
Broke off behind Cash Equity (5f, 1:02.1h TT) and finished head-and-head at the wire, never asked a drop, quite nice for P. D’Amato, 1:01.3 on our watches. Continues to improve with racing and acclimation, have to give him a look in the Eddie Read.

ELEVENTH RACE:
Emerald Lake (July 22, Del Mar, 6f, 1:12.4h). Grade: B+
Broke off a couple of lengths in front of She’s Bulletproof (6f, 1:12.2h) and was always breezing through the lane and continuing out to the 7/8 pole looking extremely sharp for P. Miller, splits of :11.4, :35.4 and :48.2 for the final half mile, head-and-head at the end. Freshened since April and looks fit and ready for her return and may be a better type this time around.
