Spa selections 2022: Saratoga picks August 13
In Spa Selections, our correspondent provides his Saratoga picks for key races on today’s Saratoga card!

Race 4 – Grade II Saratoga Special Stakes

1. #2 Damon’s Mound (7-5) – This one will likely remain the second choice and was every bit as dominant as Gulfport last time, although he may need Super Chow to apply early pressure

2. #4 Gulfport (4-5) – If this colt by Uncle Mo gets away from the field early and avoids Super Chow, he should win barring a torrid pace, as he has won easily in both starts

3. #3 Valenzan Day (12-1) – Didn’t break well last time and had too much ground to make up, but could be one at a nice price to be running late and hit the board with a better break

4. #1 Super Chow (8-1) – This one comes off a huge workout and has the early speed to contend with Gulfport, but needs to go an extra furlong and a half this time around

Race 9 – Maiden 105k

1. #2 Leading Contender (8-1) – Rosario has an impressive winning percentage when riding for Chad Brown, and this colt by Gun Runner looks ready in his debut

2. #1 Unlimitedpotential (3-1) – This Pletcher and Repole runner gets Irad Ortiz as a part of an entry, and comes off an impressive work a week ago

3. #8 Final Approach (6-1) – Another first timer who starts for D. Wayne Lukas and is hard to pass up purely based off the impressive works including two bullets

4. #7 Happy Bob (9-2) – First time lasix and maybe the sharpest of those who have run before, but needs to finish a bit better in the stretch this time to have a chance

Race 10 – Grade I Fourstardave Handicap

1. #3 Regal Glory (6-5) – Has won all three at Saratoga and is just a step better than these if he runs his best, plus has good versatility which gives him options here

2. #1 Casa Creed (5-2) – Maybe not one that will win, but should be closing late even though he probably prefers to go shorter and can get a winning trip with the right pace set-up

3. #4 Masan (2-1) – Chad Brown’s other runner who doesn’t quite have the speed figures and class of Regal Glory, but comes off a grade III victory and should get a good stalking trip here

4. #5 Get Smokin (8-1) – One that likes to grab the early lead and will likely do so here, but holding leads has been an issue, although he can still hang on to hit the board

Race 11 – MC 40000

1. #7 Greg’s Honor (3-1) – Loses Rosario but picks up Irad Ortiz, and should be running late especially if there is some early pace if someone presses Smart Joker

2. #2 Smart Joker (6-1) – Showed improvement with the switch to turf last time and should be near the early lead, maybe takes another step forward with another turf try

3. #9 Calloway Peak (8-1) – Adds blinkers and improved his positioning with the class drop last time out, but can’t be as far back this time and needs to break a bit better here

4. #5 Left On Boylston (6-1) – In both tries at this distance, this gelding finished third, but is another who tends to rate and may need pace to aim at

Rocket Picks : Del Mar, Gulfstream Park, and Saratoga for August 13, 2022
By: Aaron Halterman

It’s time for another Saturday of racing! For the free pick 4, we will head back to Saratoga for the Late Pick 4 on the card. We will also have full card selections for Del Mar and Churchill Downs for the paid Rockets, so be sure to check those out.

Below is our free late Pick 4 for Saratoga:

Saratoga August 13, 2022

Race 8: Allowance Optional Claiming

#1 Portfolio Company drops down in class for this race after taking on stakes runners in his last four starts. He should get the job done in this spot. #11 Daunt will have a big chance in this spot if the pace sets up like it looks like it is going to on paper. His late closing style will be tough to hold off with pace to run at late down the lane.

Race 9: Maiden Special Weight
freestar

#1 Unlimitedpotential debuts in this spot for Pletcher after a bullet workout on August 6th over this race. He looks ready to roll for this one. #4 For Good should move forward off of his debut race, which saw him run fourth over a muddy track at Belmont Park.

Race 10: Fourstardave Handicap (G1)

#3 Regal Glory will take on the boys in this spot after dominating the females all season long. She looks ready for this next challenge, while this race has produce female winners in recent years. #4 Masen has won two straight races; however, this race looks tougher than what he has been facing.

Race 11: Maiden Claiming

#3 Good Solider takes a big drop down in class for this race after struggling in two straight maiden special weight events over the turf. #2 Smart Joker was fourth at this level last time out after setting the early pace. He may improve in his second race over the turf today.

Canterbury Park Late Pick 3 for Aug. 13
Ashley Anderson

Canterbury Park features a quartet of stakes races on Saturday's card, including the $100,000 Minnesota Derby and $100,000 Minnesota Oaks, listed as the seventh and eighth races, respectively, on the nine-race card.

TwinSpires.com will be offering a special all-stakes bet back promotion for Canterbury (Races 2, 3, 7, 8) and will return up to $10 on your win bet if your horse finishes second or third in any of the four stakes.

Below we look at the win contenders for the Minnesota Derby and Oaks, then build a Pick 3 ticket that includes the final race of the evening.
Bet live racing at Canterbury Park
Race 7: Minnesota Derby, 1 mile and 70 yards (9:10 p.m. ET)

The first two choices on the morning line, #3 Love the Nest (2-1) and #4 Doctor Oscar (9-5), will be trying a route distance for the first time in this race for three-year-old colts and geldings.

Doctor Oscar beat Love the Nest by a length last out in the six-furlong Victor S. Myers S. on July 16, but trainer David Van Winkle is just a 5% winner with horses making their first start at a route distance, while jockey Chad Lindsay is 4-for-32 racing routes.

Love the Nest's trainer Joel Berndt produces a much higher percentage of winners (23%) running a route for the first time, and he's a 19% winner with horses making their second start off the layoff.

Let's fade the favorite and back Love the Nest, along with Berndt's other runner, #8 Cousvinnysacanuck (10-1). He clocked an 84 Brisnet Speed rating at one mile when winning an allowance at this track on July 17 and will stay with regular rider Luis Fuentes, a 30% winner with route distances.
Race 8: Minnesota Oaks, 1 mile and 70 yards (9:40 p.m. ET)

The females tackle one mile, 70 yards in the following race, and a number of runners will be stretching out to a route distance for the first time.

The morning line favorite #8 Brewhouse (3-1) is one such filly, and she'll be looking to maintain her unbeaten record in her first try beyond six furlongs.

One of four runners for McLean Robertson, a 28% winner in non-graded stakes, Brewhouse last won the Frances Genter S. and beat a number of today's race rivals, including three stablemates — #3 It's Her Time (12-1), #6 Honey Bella (12-1), and #11 Gypsy Reward (8-1).

The Tapit granddaughter will retain the services of Nik Goodwin, who's won 38% of races paired up with Robertson.

We'll side with Robertson's top choice on the morning line and also play #5 Lady Clare (10-1), who won last out at a mile in an allowance optional claimer at this track. Two back, she was beaten by a head to #4 Start Singing (8-1), who re-opposes here, and romped to a 10-length win at the same distance three back, posting an 81 BRIS figure in her decisive victory.
Race 9: $5,000 claiming, one mile (10:10 p.m. ET)

In the final race on Saturday, #5 Riviera Champ (5-2) is a slight favorite over #7 Shinboro (3-1) after coming home second by 1 3/4 lengths in a one-mile claimer at this track on July 2. Trainer Jonathan Wong is a 29% winner with horses making their second start off the claim and a 25% winner in claiming races. Riviera Champ will also switch to hot jockey Harry Hernandez, who is 7-3-2-0 in the last seven days.

We'll back the morning line favorite alongside the well-related #4 Malibu Channel (9-2), who has been running on turf and will switch to dirt in addition to dropping down two class levels. Trainer Karl Broberg is a 28% winner with horses dropping down two classes and a 21% winner with runners transitioning from turf to dirt. Hot jockey Ry Eikleberry (20% winner this meet) will pick up the mount and has gone 4-for-7 when paired up with Broberg over the last week. Eikleberry's also a 26% winner with routes.

RACE 1: CLAIMING $8,000, 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 6 FURLONGS

2-1-6-5

Ten races on the docket for a picture-perfect Saturday. #4 Bigmancan (9-2) has won two of his last three dirt starts at Penn National, consistently running brisnet figures in the upper-70s. He likes to stalk the pace and pounce and should work out a great trip here. Tyler Conner, who rode him last time, is named on just him. #2 Royal Thunder (9-5) takes a drop in class after a disappointing start against Maryland-bred allowance types last out. His trip was not as troubled as his running line would indicate; he simply didn’t show any of his customary early speed and was well-beaten. He handily beat $12,500 horses two starts back, but now drops even further down the class ladder. His form from earlier this summer would win this going away, but I’m a bit suspicious at low odds based on that last race. The chances of #1 Subject to Change (5-2) depend on what happens with Royal Thunder. Subject to Change was a handy winner three starts back when he went uncontested on the lead, but faded late after getting pressure in his most recent two outings. Royal Thunder is the most likely one to apply pace pressure. If he forces Subject to Change to run early, that one is likely to be in trouble. If Royal Thunder shows little again, however, Subject to Change will have things his own way on the lead.

RACE 2: MAIDEN CLAIMING $20,000, 3, 4, AND 5-YEAR-OLDS, FILLIES AND MARES, 1 MILE (GRASS)

10-12-3-6

#10 Block Party (5-1) makes her first start since her debut in May at Tampa Bay Downs. She rallied well from last and got up for fifth, with a figure of 66. She returned to the worktab in mid-July for new trainer Justin Nixon and should improve second time out. #12 Jackie B Good (6-1) closed well for second in her last grass start, finishing behind only Eight Danzas, who won a Pennsylvania-bred allowance race on dirt by open lengths next out. This filly should be at home at this class level. #3 Please Marry Me (4-1) was originally entered in a $30,000 race last Friday, but it was wiped out due to thunderstorms. She has lots of early speed and should encounter minimal pressure on the front end.

From the Spa: August 10 Midlantic-breds in Saratoga stakes
‘From the Spa’ keeps you up to speed with all the Midlantic-breds running in Saratoga stakes this summer.

RACE 3: CLAIMING $10,000 (CONDITIONED), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 6 FURLONGS

5-4-6-1

#5 Drive by Layover (6-5) has run at least a 79 in four of his last five starts, and closed well to get second at this condition last out. Will be tough if he runs his race. #6 Remembering Wilbur (7-2) has not missed the board in five starts on this track and drew off to win going away after setting the pace in his last start here in April. He had a brutally wide trip on grass last out but should work out a better trip here. #4 Dolce Vita (5-2) is in improving form and did win a n/w2L race last out, but he was racing on a rail-favoring track. It’s possible he gets another biased strip here, of course, but I wouldn’t count on it.

RACE 4: STARTER OPTIONAL CLAIMING $25,000, 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 1/16 MILES (GRASS)

9-8-1-6

#9 Boat’s a Rockin (7-5) has been unstoppable this year. Not only has he won two races in a row in gate-to-wire style, he’s won them by a combined 7 1/2 lengths and never looked like he was in danger of losing at any point. He should run away and hide from this field once again. #8 One Two Kid (6-1) overcame a slow pace to get up and win against similar at 18-1 last out. Usually, he’s more forwardly-placed than he was last time, which will work to his advantage in this spot. Jamie Ness has a coupled entry in here; #1 Pretty Good Year (4-1) looks like the better half. He has no early speed, which doesn’t make him a serious threat to Boat’s a Rockin, in my opinion. However, he has great closing speed and has rallied well in his last two races despite getting caught very wide both times. If he can manage to save ground here, he can rally from the rail or close to it and round out the exotics.

RACE 5: CLAIMING $8,000, 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 6 FURLONGS

5-1-7-4

This race pits the top three finishers at this condition on July 17, #5 Dat Deres Gold (8-5), #1 Sick Pack Sara (9-5), and #7 Stay Out (5-1) against each other. Dat Deres Gold sat the trip just off the lead and kicked clear to win by two lengths for her second straight win. Sick Pack Sara, who held on for second after setting the pace, is a committed front-runner who will encounter plenty of pace pressure from her outside. It’s possible she sneaks away on the lead, but it’s more likely she’ll get softened up on the lead and Dat Deres Gold will once again be able to get away. Stay Out made mild ground to get third in her third start off the break and looks for further improvement here.

RACE 6: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING (N/W3X), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 1 1/16 MILES (GRASS)

5-7-1-3

A competitive field of six, including three Maryland Million eligibles, will line up in today’s co-feature. #5 Nick Papagiorgio (4-1) got up to win the Find Stakes two races back with an 86, in his second start off a long layoff. Last out in the Prince George’s County Stakes, he proved no match for classier rivals but managed to hold fourth. He should be more at home against these. #7 Summer to Remember (7-2) went gate-to-wire at Delaware Park last out and is a serious threat to wire these. That was just a n/w1x race last time, however, and while he faced some tough fields in New York earlier this year, this will be a class test nonetheless. The trip might have to carry him to victory. #1 Scarlett Sky (5-2) won the Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland last spring, but has missed the board in his four starts since. He hasn’t been seen since the Appleton Stakes this spring, when he bolted to the outside. He has back-class and should be ready to fire a big one for Shug McGaughey.

RACE 7: STARTER OPTIONAL CLAIMING $20,000, 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 6 FURLONGS

1-7-2-4

#1 He Hate Me (9-5) never got a breather in his last start at Parx, but nonetheless held off all challenges and won by a neck with a season’s-best figure of 91. He’s been improving with every start this year. #7 Meru (3-1) is also coming off his best race of the year, having earned an 84 after getting a great trip in victory at Monmouth Park last out. He has some of the best late pace figures in the race and will be primed to pack a punch. #2 Yes Sir Robert (9-2) was impressive in victory two races back at Churchill Downs, but showed little after racing wide on the pace in his local debut last out. He gets a jockey switch to Victor Carrasco and will try to work out a better trip, having moved four-wide after breaking from post position two.

RACE 8: CLAIMING $25,000 (N/W2L), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, FILLIES AND MARES, 1 1/16 MILES (GRASS)

2-5-3-9

#2 Helluva Lady (3-1) drops to this condition for the first time. She ran a 78 last out against Maryland-bred allowance runners, which was far and away a career-best mark, but she was outclassed and well-beaten. #5 Vodkatini (9-2) exits the same race, and flattened out after a wide trip. In her prior grass start, she was no match for loose leader Cupid’s Strike, who came back to finish second in an open n/w1x allowance. However, Vodaktini held clear of the others and secured a comfortable second. #3 Evangeline Allions (5-2) made a strong move and struck the front in the stretch last out, but flattened out late and got third. Nonetheless, she’s been solid against these types all year long and should at least hang on for a share.

RACE 9: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING (N/W3X), 3-YEAR-OLDS AND UP, 6 FURLONGS

4-3-5-1

This race was originally scheduled for last Friday, but it was cancelled due to the aforementioned thunderstorms. Some of the entrants came back, including #4 Eastern Bay (4-1). He’s won twice at this level in his last three starts, though didn’t do quite as well as usual going 5 1/2 furlongs last out. However, stretching back out to six furlongs should help the cause. #3 Alwaysinahurry (7-2) exits the same race as Eastern Bay. He closed well from off the pace and lost by a head to Factor It In, who was making his first start of the year. Alwaysinahurry improved to a 90 in that race, and his usual low-90s figure should be good enough to contend here. #5 Yodel E.A. Who (2-1) has run back-to-back career-best figures and lost a photo finish to Fortheluvofbourbon, a multiple stakes winner and four-time winner this year.

RACE 10: MAIDEN CLAIMING $20,000, 3, 4, AND 5-YEAR-OLDS, FILLIES AND MARES, 1 MILE (GRASS)

6-7-10-11

#6 Pensively (3-1) got first jump on a loose leader in her last start at Colonial Downs, and she managed to outkick everyone except favored Golden Effect and held second. Looks primed to get another great stalking trip. #7 Missawlet (4-1) led almost the whole way around last out but got caught late at 33-1. She had showed speed in the past, but that was the first time she held on that long. It was a promising performance. #10 First Lady Di Da (4-1) is coming off a lifetime-best figure of 69, earned when finishing fourth behind Missawlet last out. She struggled in her first two starts off the layoff but is rounding back into form.

Late Pick 4 … Races 8-11

Race 8: Turf, 1 Mile, OC80kn1x, 3

The sequence on this Saturday is probably one of the best wagering races on the entire Saratoga card, but you have to willing to go against a tough “deserving favorite.” These 3-yr-olds will be taking to the Inner Turf, and are looking to upgrade their class status. When it comes to playing this LP4, I am going to shy away from going deep … it is time to be realistic. The phrase “Chad Brown-Klaravich horses on the grass” conjures thought bubbles comprised of words like low odds and sure-bets. Portfolio Company #1 will be just that on Saturday, and with Joel Rosario aboard, the colt by the now-deceased Kitten’s Joy has a chance to shine. Brown is dropping him down from stakes company, and he easily has the most experience in this spot. Some might call this a suspicious move, but there is always intent behind this future HOF-er’s moves. For me, this is a “Single,” and I am going to hope I can find a price horse, elsewhere on the card.

Leg 1: 1 (Single)

Wagering Recommendation: $100, Win #1

Race 9: Dirt, 7F, MSW105k, 3+

Here is an interesting condition for males, in that most are 3-yr-olds. With a good number of 1st time starters, it will be a challenge to discern who is ready, and who is not. Chad Brown once again comes with a strong hand, and I would not be surprised if either Leading Contender #2 or For Good #4 broke their maiden. I am going to use both of them, but I really think highly of the Schettino Barn’s Happy Bob #7. This colt by Runhappy is on the make, and looks the part after he debuted at Belmont at the end of June. Not only does he get 1st time Lasix, but the addition of Flavien Prat is a smooth move. Expect him to make some waves against this bunch! Let’s go 3 deep, and move to the latter half of this LP4 sequence.

Leg 2: 2/4/7 (3-Deep)

Wagering Recommendation: $25/$50 WP #7

Race 10: Turf, 1 Mile, Fourstardave H. (G1), $500k, 3+

The stakes highlight of the Saturday Spa card is probably the annual renewal of the Fourstardave Handicap. A 2-turn Grade 1 event on the Inner Turf, it regularly brings together a good field of celebrated “milers.” Coming into this year’s race, the matriarch against the boys is definitively the Peter Brant-owned mare by Animal Kingdom, Regal Glory #3. Chad Brown’s 6-yr-old is the top grass runner in the nation, and she has proved it on many occasions. With 19 starts under her saddle, she has 12 wins … her earnings, you ask? In excess of $2 million … Jose Ortiz is her regular pilot, and even though she can be a challenge to handle, there is no question that when she comes to play, she can be devasting in the stretch. Despite her brimming form and talent, I am betting that today is not going to be hers. In fact, I am going to take the rest of the field (all males), and try to beat her with the likes of NYRA favorite Casa Creed #1. This can be a dangerous strategy, but the payoff is going to be sweet, if we can get a longer priced entry home. A trip to the Breeders’ Cup Fan Duel (http://wlfanduel.adsrv.eacdn.com/C.ashx?btag=a_889b_1455c_&affid=735&siteid=889&adid=1455&c=) Mile (G1) is on the line … maybe the favorite will be off her game … A note, Brown has actually never won the Fourstardave H. ... what?

Leg 3: 1/2/4/5 (4-Deep)

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager, WPS #5 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Race 11: Turf, 1 1/16th, MC40k, 3+

The finale on this Saturday card is your typical endgame that can point in a number of directions. There is nothing easy in spots like these … I am interested in John Kimmel’s gelding by Practical Joke. Smart Joker #2 is owned by Monmouth Park’s Dennis Drazin, and he gets another shot at the turf after losing the lead down the stretch last time out at Belmont. He comes back at the same condition and distance, and I think that Jose Ortiz can use what he learned from that last attempt. The pace scenario was not at all quick, so maybe it was just a case of a late meltdown. One other entry that suits my ‘capping fancy is Carlos Martin’s Calloway Peak #9. Ridden once again by Eric Cancel, this gelding by Arrogate has a good turf pedigree on the dam side, and the former Bill Mott-trainee is still looking to break his maiden. That could very well come on Saturday, as he gets “blinkers” … don’t give up on this one yet …

Leg 4: 2/9 (2-Deep)

Wagering Recommendation: $2 Exacta Box, 2/9

----------------------------------------------

Ticket: 1 / 2-4-7 / 1-2-4-5 / 2-9

.50 Cost LP4: $12.00

Churchill Downs Picks: Nod to Arlington Million part of special Saturday card on August 13
By J.N. Campbell

Churchill Downs Picks: Saturday, August 12, 2022

Race 1: 3-5-1-9
Race 2: 4-2-1-6
Race 3: 7-3-8-4
Race 4: 7-10-6-1
Race 5: 4-3-5-1
Race 6: 6-9-3-10
Race 7: 3-1-2-4
Race 8: 1/1A-8-3-7
Race 9: 1-8-2-6
Race 10: 6-2-5-3
Race 11: 6-1-4-9
Most Likely Winner: Santin #6 (Race 11)
Best Value: Intrepid Heart #6 (Race 10)

All-Stakes Rundown …

Race 5: Turf, 1 1/8th, Beverly D Stakes (G1), $500k, F&M 3+

How will the Matt Winn Turf Course play? Hmm … anyone’s guess … The Churchill stakes action begins with an homage to Arlington Park … it’s the Beverly D. This Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” contest offers entry into the Filly and Mare Turf (G1) at Keeneland in November. That usually means that American representatives will face some stiff international competition. To check that kind of power, you want a blade runner that has the past history, plus the budding talent to build some nice form over the course of the late summer and into the fall. I think that Chad Brown’s Rougir (FR) #4 fits the bill. Owners Peter Brant and Michael Tabor brought this filly by Territories (IRE) over, after they purchased her for a whopping $3.3 million. After missing in last year’s BC F&M Turf (G1), she was officially transferred to Brown. Her NYRA attempts continue to be mixed, at best, but she comes to Churchill with much promise. Manny Franco is getting more and more opportunities to ride for Brown, and I have the utmost confidence that this one can punch her ticket to Keeneland.

Wagering Recommendation: $25/$50 WP #4

Race 7: Dirt, 6F, Lady Tak Stakes, $200k, F&M 3+

The dirt sprinters will be out in force, and we have a marquee match-up between Neil Pessin’s Bell’s the One #1 and Greg Foley’s Sconsin #2. They have faced one another many times, and recently the latter has gotten the best of the former. Honestly, you could put their names in a bag and shake it up … the result … anyone’s guess. Most will probably side with Foley … he has Gaffalione in his corner. When it comes to a top selection, I am going with John Ortiz’s Joyful Cadence #3. The filly by Runhappy has the requisite skills, and Reylu Gutierrez knows how to hustle this one. He did just that when he was last aboard this 4-yr-old at Prairie Meadows in a “Non-G.” I realize the competition in that race might not be up to par with this bunch, but her class rating is on the rise. What we know for sure is she will be more than a square price when this race goes off …

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager, WPS #3 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Race 10: Dirt, 1 3/16ths, Fort Larned Stakes, $200k, 3+

Named for one of the best, this distance test on the Main Track brings together an eclectic crowd of runners. I think Kenny McPeek has the inside track with King Fury #2, a colt by Curlin that braved the BC Juvenile (G1) at Keeneland in ’20, and then travelled the Derby Trail the year after. He was no match for Essential Quality in the Travers S. (G1), but he did build some nice class along the way. His ’22 campaign began in April at Turfway Park, but since then he has not been seen outside the training track. How sharp will he be? That is a question … Instead of backing this one, I am more interested in Joe Sharp’s uncoupled entry … Twilight Blue #5 and Intrepid Heart #6. Both of these runners will be stretching out, but that isn’t much of an issue. I am more interested in the fact that both of them relish the Churchill oval. Sharp is one of those unheralded conditioners that has yet to crack the nation “super trainer” conversation … that will soon change. Intrepid Heart #6, with Tyler Gaffalione in the irons, this gelding by Tapit has all the ability to get the job done. That last speed fig he posted at Churchill in late June before the Meet closed was solid against OC80kn3x-types. Here is the wager I have constructed … Sharps up!

Wagering Recommendation: $2 Trifecta Box, 2/5/6

Race 11: Turf, 1 1/8th, Arlington Million Stakes (G1), $1 Million, 3+

There is history and the culture of Arlington Park is something to be remembered … The famous Arlington Million has moved, in case you did not hear, and it comes to the Twin Spires. The purse is back where it once was, but the distance will not be the customary 1

#6 MUSICAL RIDE (ML=15/1)
#5 EMMELINE (ML=3/1)
#4 GAMBLING CAT (ML=10/1)
#3 MILLIE GIRL (ML=5/2)
#9 GLORIANNIA (ML=8/1)

MUSICAL RIDE - Moran comes to get aboard after getting to know the filly in the last affair. This filly should be in tip-top shape, this far into her form cycle. It would be wise to check this filly's odds close to post time. I noticed she's won a few times at big odds. EMMELINE - This filly ran versus the males last time. In with her own gender today. When this jockey and conditioner join forces you have to take a look. Stein and Mattine have been wonderful together. Ran last time out against a higher rated class of horses at Woodbine. The move down the class scale should suit her well. GAMBLING CAT - This filly has been trying different distances, but from the looks of things, she ran a nice fig last try at this distance. Using this jock/trainer combination is a smart choice. MILLIE GIRL - Carroll comes to ride again after getting to know the filly in the last contest. This racer coming off a good try in the last month is a solid contender in my humble opinion. I like this filly. Has the top earnings per race in today's contest. GLORIANNIA - This pony coming off a good race in the last month or so is a solid contender in my book. Personally, I wouldn't worry about where she finished in her last race (fourth). Should rebound in today's race, with some decent odds.

Vulnerable Contenders: #1 STARLIGHT RIDGE (ML=4/1), #2 HIT AND RUN (ML=6/1),

STARLIGHT RIDGE - Have to be a little shy about the recent trend and awesome speed rating in the Jul 28th event. It was this mare's best at that distance and this one should bounce today. HIT AND RUN - Doesn't look to be in a strong spot this time around.

https://www.trackmaster.com/images/tophat.jpgGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - MUSICAL RIDE - If I can get anything close to the morning line odds on this one I'm making a wager. Wasn't too far from the victor last race out.

Bet on #6 MUSICAL RIDE to win if you can get at least 6/1 odds

Del Mar Hotlist - August 13 August 12, 2022

Today’s Del Mar Hot List races to watch
Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022
By Bob Ehalt and Matt Shifman
Hot List Key:
A : A preferred horse to watch B: Secondary horse to watch
*C: Went down 2 or more betting notches in the final 3 minutes and finished 1st through 3rd
*D: Went down 2 or more betting notches and finished 4th or worse
* - 4 or more betting notches if 11-1 or more.
1st race – (2) Multi Platinum (B) returns in a week after being claimed out of an easy winner. Can make it two in a row today. (1) Wall Street Trader will be a force if he can duplicate his landslide win last time out. (7) Baladi might respond to a turf to dirt switch. (4) Conundrum belongs in the exotics. Betting strategy: 2 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-2 over 4-7 and 4-7 over 1-2.
4th race – (7) Shadow Sphinx (B) lacked room while seeking a third straight win. Can resume his winning ways here. (9) Neptune’s Storm has a class edge and looks like the main rival. (10) Cono missed by a nose last time and will be a main contender here. (1) Count of Amazonia will benefit from a rail trip. Betting strategy: 7 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-7-9-10.
6th race – (1) Avenue de France staged a strong rally to win at the meet last month and can work out a winning trip from the rail. (2) Going Global was third in a Grade 1 stakes and looks like the one to fear. (4) Rocking Redhead was third behind the top pick and rates a look here. (5) Park Avenue has keen early speed and could be tough to catch. Betting strategy: 1 to win, place. Exacta box: 1-2. Exactas: 1-2 over 4-5 and 4-5 over 1-2. Doubles: 1-2-4-5 over 2-4-6-9.
7th race – (9) Truehood has put in some fast works for his debut and should win at first asking. (6) Abeliefinthislivin was second in both career starts and can complete the exacta. (2) Cave Rock is another firster from Baffert who should not be ignored. (4) Tall Boy put in some sharp works for this and merits attention. Betting strategy: 9 to win, place. Exacta box: 2-4-6-9.
9th race – (6) Absolutely Zero is 2-for-2 and should be able to notch a hat trick. (5) Satin Doll staged a strong rally to win her debut and will be the main threat. (1) Procrastination could be tough to catch from the rail. (7) Infinite Diamond might be a factor in the final furlong. Betting strategy: 6 to win, place. Exacta box: 5-6. Exactas: 5-6 over 1-7 and 1-7 over 5-6.
