Both teams put up huge numbers last week in big blowouts against Indiana State and UConn, respectively, but that's not what we're expecting to take place this weekend.
Syracuse currently boast the 9th best defense in the league this season at home, 5th from Power 5 conferences, as they held Louisville to just 7 total points and 202 yards of offense back in Week 1.
That was incredibly impressive, especially considering Louisville came back last week to knock off a very good UCF team as outright underdogs on the road, so Syracuse's defensive ability has aged well to start the year.
Purdue meanwhile shut out Indiana State last week after losing narrowly to Penn State in Week 1, but face their first road game of the year on Saturday.
That shouldn't faze the Boilermakers all that much however as they ranked 21st in the country last season on total passing first downs allowed at just 8.5 per game on average, finishing the season even stronger at just 7.7 passing first downs allowed on average against their final three opponents also.
With the ability of both teams to run the ball effectively in this one, Purdue putting up 5.2 yards per rush last week against Indiana State, Syracuse putting up the exact same number against Louisville in their opening home game, plus both teams' effective pass defense as well, we expect this to be a slower-paced game here on Saturday between the Boilermakers and the Orange.

Pitt has had this game circled on their calendar as last year W. Michigan came to Pitt and pull a huge Upset as 14 Underdogs. We were on W. Michigan in that game as Pitt was coming off a Big Win at Tennessee the week before. Yes Pitt was Fat n Sassy entering that game and didn’t take this MAC school seriously. That won’t happen this time as Pitt is coming off a loss to Tennessee last week so the Panthers will be Focused. Pitt had both QB’s banged up last week but Coach Narduzzi said after practice on Thursday that Kedon Slovis will be a game time decision but all reports appear he will be ready to go. The Panthers will over power this W. Michigan team as this defense got run over by both Michigan St and Ball St. PITT 34-17

One of the most pleasant surprises in the SEC and, furthermore, overall in college football this season has been the play of Mississippi State. They trampled through their nonconference schedule, winning and covering both contests against the likes of Memphis and Arizona. The Bulldogs were favorites in both games and had no problem covering point spreads of -17 and -13. In their season opener, LSU was supposed to take down Florida State.

However, lost a squeaker, 24-23, as a four-point favorite. Last week they needed a confidence builder devouring Southern 65-17. But I think we would all agree they are stepping up in class here today. Once again, this season, Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers is making headlines. He picked up where he left off last season. In 2021/2022, the gunslinger passed for over 4,449 yards, with a 75.1% completion rate, tallying over 35 TDs and only eight INTs. Already in the 2022/2023 campaign, he has gashed defenses for 763 yards passing, on a 78.6% completion rate, nine TDs, and only two INTs. He currently leads the nation in completions per game, is tied for second in passing touchdowns, and third in average passing yards. One thing he has this season is an arsenal of receivers.

Already six different wideouts have caught TD passes. Dillon Johnson is proving to be a very capable running back. Tigers quarterback Jayden Daniels is also making some news. He’s putting up some impressive numbers. But there is no question he will be outshined by his counterpart here. The one thing that he does offer is the fact that he’s a dual threat. He could also run the ball pretty well. But the Bulldog's front seven are playing extremely tough against the rush. And you could look for the LSU backfield to have a much tougher time here in this matchup than they’ve experienced the last few weeks.

They are expected to see the return of John Emery Jr., But the RB hasn’t played since the end of the 2020 season because of academic issues. He will be rusty for sure. And he certainly hasn’t had to line up in a game against a defense playing as tough against the run as Mississippi State is right now. As we all know, the SEC is one of the toughest and most competitive conferences in the nation. And I’m not saying the Bulldogs are going to win the SEC. But what I am saying is that to us bettors, they are money. Mississippi State is 5-1 ATS the last six on grass, 5-1 ATS the last six following an ATS win, 5-1 ATS the last six on the road, 4-1 ATS the last five conference games, and 7-2 ATS the last nine overall.

The one thing LSU has problems with his back-to-back solid performances. Particularly against the spread. They have not covered b-2-b outings in a year. This line here should be at least several points higher.

I’ll take the Bulldogs to take a bite out of the Tigers.

I like the Miami Florida Hurricanes to win this game against the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday. Everyone is going to be all over the Aggies in this one after getting upset last week against Appalachian State. There's no way they can be upset again, can they? Well, this Miami FL team is really good. And when I say really good, I mean really really good. Miami comes into this game 2-0. Although both of their first two matchups were a significant mismatch, the Hurricanes look like they are back and ready to make some noise this season. QB Tyler Van Dyke is someone that all eyes should be on here in this game. He can make some huge plays and make them look easy when they really aren't. Also, watch out for WR Xavier Restrepo, who is very reliable, with 199 yards through the first two games. For A&M, they were the buzz of the offseason after their ridiculous recruiting class. Their only problem is that they've got a battle for the QB position, and they are extremely young. I expect the Hurricanes to upset this Aggies team on the road here on Saturday. Even though I personally wouldn't consider it an upset.

Don’t over react to UNLV’s good showing last week against California. Two things to point out from that game. California hasn’t done anything offensively in two games so far so don’t suddenly think UNLV has a great defense. It also must be pointed out that California was in as big of a look ahead spot as you can have as they had a trip to Notre Dame on deck. Whether you like Notre Dame or not it’s a big deal to these kids to play in Notre Dame. You can also bet the California game plan last week was very vanilla not to show anything on tape for Notre Dame to see and prepare for. So I am completely throwing out that performance by UNLV. Now UNLV is going to be facing the best offense they have seen all year. N. Texas can score points and they are a 200 Club member. Teams I refer to as 200 Club Members are teams that both run and pass the ball for 200 or more yards. Talk about a balanced offense N. Texas both runs and passes for 238 yards a game. That kind of balance is very hard to prepare for as what do you try and take away as they do both extremely well. I just don’t see UNLV being able to stop N. Texas. I also want to point out the quirky start time. UNLV will have this game kick off at noon local time which for Vegas standards noon is way too early. N. Texas will be better acclimated to this start time. In what should be a high scoring game. N. TEXAS 41-31

Two things you need to understand. First, this fight's sole purpose is setting Pyfer up with a dominating finish. Secondly, Alen Amedovski is absolutely terrible.

Joseph Pyfer's roughly a (-440) favorite heading into Saturday night and for all good reasons. A young up and comer well rounded with power and athleticism. No doubt an incredible upside career wise. With that said, UFC easing him into the organization after a round 2 knockout victory on Dana White's Contender Series. Not only is Pyfer talented but he's basically everything that Alen Amedovski isn't. A few red flags here… lets start off with Alen's only fought 5 times since 2018. This inactively sounds alarming with an aging fighter and limited cage time. Now mid 30's coming off back to back round 1 knockout losses as well. Plus neither of those fights made it past the first minute of round 1. Yup. Getting KO'ed is one thing but Amedovski appeared like he just woke up and rolled off the couch. Only logging 3 UFC bouts with two of which taking place in 2019. 0-3 run in the organization normally means you're checking Monster.com for new career opportunities. Well, not when they're building a future stud. Stylistically, Pyfer's well equipped with an ever growing skill set honing his craft. Has a solid stand up game mixed with strong takedowns and ability to control grappling. Always seeking a finish willing to push high pace aggressively. While Allen's reckless, wild in the pocket and defensively unaware. Add in the fact he's small for the division and Pyfer should dominate in any fashion he chooses. Can't see him surviving many early exchanges as I fully expect out the gate heavy shots thrown. But in some odd strange wild situation early and Allen lands… we're covered. Don't think fight gets out of round 1.

Both these men are products of Dana White's Contender Series, yet Chidi Njokuani isn't your average up and comer. With nearly 30 professional MMA bouts under his belt doubling the experience of Gregory Rodrigues. Only suffering 7 losses over that span with 5 coming against UFC caliber talent. It's a completely different path than most coming from DWCS. Since entering the UFC Chidi's lined up 3 straight brutal knockout victories displaying power and versatility. Technically speaking, long rangy combinations backed by a well-rounded skill set. Light on his feet freely switching stances from south paw to orthodox disguising his attacks. Success Saturday will come from footwork as well as strong output and pace. The biggest edge will be his large 5-inch reach advantage. Interestingly enough, since entering the UFC Gregory Rodrigues always had a reach advantage over opponents. Not only that but even prior to the UFC he's never faced someone this long as well as this skilled. Brings a new dynamic to an overall tough stylistic match up. On the feet Gregory's boxing heavy approach shouldn't cause any issues for Njokuani. With the more versatile stand up game and stronger kick boxing I believe Chidi can easily out land him. Biggest vulnerability for Gregory is his inability keeping head off center line. 2 out of his last 3 fights was rocked and wobbled by lesser strikers. Even against a lower level Junyong Park, Gregory was rocked and almost finished. If it wasn't for Park's even worse cardio he'd probably had won. If Chidi lands in that fashion, …it's night night for Rodrigues. Add in the consistent fakes and faints of Njokunai drawing out actions from opponents should further be problematic for Gregory. Yes, both men have high level BJJ credentials, but we've seen once Gregory grapples his explosiveness dips downward. It's a large reason he'll limit grappling situations due to how taxing it is on his gas tank. If fight goes to the ground Chidi's highly capable of defending or reversing position. Even in the clinch Njokuani's lethal firing vicious elbows and knee in tight. Anywhere fight goes I believe he'll find success and bring home a W and Max Play cash for the squad.
