Today’s Horse Racing Tips – 10th October 2022

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for October 10.

Australian thoroughbred Tab meetings are today held at Tamworth, Murwillumbah and Bairnsdale.

TAMWORTH: RACE 7 @ 5:50 PM

STAR IMPACT (4) scored a well-deserved maiden victory last time out over 1400m at Scone on September 23. At her peak now and should handle the class rise with ease. Will go close on recent figures. DISTANT SECRET (5) is another who broke his maiden status at start six last start. Settled off the pace and rounded them up well to score last time over 1200m at this track on September 26. Should have little trouble getting the 1400m and can fight out the finish. TOUGH CASE (2) doesn't have the best win record but fitter after a game second over 1200m at Bathurst on September 25. Can finish in the placings again.
SELECTIONS: Star Impact to win.

MURWILLUMBAH: RACE 2 @ 2:25 PM

The honest SHANJOMI (5) has remarkably hit the top five in 14 of her 15 starts to date with the only failure coming at Eagle Farm in Saturday grade two runs ago. Bounced back to form with a solid win at Sunshine Coast last time out and will take a lot of confidence from that victory. Looks the hardest to toss. Stablemate WUDDACUDDASHUDDA (4) is racing consistently including a win over this track and trip two back. Goes well for Looker who has two wins from just three steers and should pose a serious threat. ENDANGERED SPECIES (3) resumes here but the form he showed when last in work was full of merit. Can run a race while fresh. KERMANTIC (9) best of the rest.
SELECTIONS: Shanjomi to win.

BAIRNSDALE: RACE 6 @ 3:30 PM

SIDE BET (3) has two placings from three runs this prep but had to settle for third as a favourite last start at Wodonga on a soft track. The extra distance and a senior hoop on today should just about see him breaking through for another well-deserved win. On top. LORD ALMIGHTY (2) is seldom far away at this level and got going too late last time out at Moe after winning there at his prior start. He has winning form on this track and won't be far away at the business end. OXLEY JACK (4) is another consistent performer who is likely to be ridden positively from the gate and he looks a solid first-four hope in this. LANI BANG BANG (7) was racing very well prior to her last start modest effort but gets a senior hoop back in the irons and she should be allowed another chance. Follow your money. WOK STAR (10) was a big last start winner over a shorter trip at Echuca and has shown plenty of ability in all five career starts. He should give his backers a great sight for a long way.

A new week of racing in Victoria gets underway with a massive nine-race program scheduled out at Bairnsdale. With the deluge of rain Victoria has been experiencing, Bairnsdale’s track has come up a Heavy 10 for the meeting, whilst the rail sticks to the true position the entire circuit.

We kick off the day with the first race jumping at 1pm AEDT.
Best Bet at Bairnsdale – Wok Star

The Trent Busuttin & Natalie Young-trained Wok Star got an easy kill for her maiden success when saluting as a long odds-on favourite at Echuca on September 10. The three-year-old filly was ridden like the best horse in the four-horse field when travelling three wide with no cover, before taking over inside the final furlong and putting a big gap on her rivals. She looks to have plenty of class about her and despite drawing barrier 11, Matthew Chadwick will likely have her settled outside Oxley Jack throughout. She won on a Heavy 10 last time out, so we know she will handle the conditions and despite being just better than even money with online betting sites, Wok Star should just be simply winning this.

Next Best at Bairnsdale – Quraysha

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace-trained Quraysha was the definition of a good thing beaten at Warracknabeal on September 20 and will, be out for redemption on Monday. The four-year-old mare was held up for a run until inside the final 200m where she then exploded late in the piece and just missed in a bob of the head finish. With clearer running, she wins that race with ease. From barrier nine on Monday, Ben Allen will have no issue in keeping her out of traffic issues and if he can land this I Am Invincible mare in the one-one, Quraysha could have this race won within the first 200m. Quraysha looks a clear and obvious winning chance.

Best Value at Bairnsdale – Moonlight Rustler

Despite struggling in tougher company at Sale on September 11, the Bill Wood-trained Moonlight Rustler looks to present great value early in the program. The six-year-old gelding was lipped out at Moe two starts back when getting worried out of a win when struggling to get past the eventual all the way winner. He draws barrier one on Monday which suit should him perfectly and Jake Noonan should have no issue in stalking the speed throughout this 1000m scamper. The speed in the race is drawn directly outside him, so there should be no issue in getting trapped three back the fence. Moonlight Rustler has shown he can handle rain-affected ground and with even look in the home straight, he looks the one to be with at an each-way price with online Bookmaker (http://www.bookmaker.eu/?cmpid=4437)s.

BERTRADA - It looks like Reyes had to be in the know about this filly on Sep 1st when riding her for the initial time. Back on again today. Believe in this horse. Coming off the pace, I think she'll be in a wonderful spot to crush them in the stretch. With 'blinkers-on' this filly should be very competitive. Last raced at Belterra Park in a race with a class figure of 81. Dropping significantly in class rating in today's event puts her in a solid position right here in this race. LITTLE DUTCH GIRL - I like to play this handicapping theory, a horse coming back off a nice race within the last month. This jockey/trainer duo has been producing a high winning pct, right around 36. Another way to identify class is earnings per race entered. This racer has the highest in the field. I think she'll be close at the finish line. You have to really like that last race speed rating, 76, which is the best latest race speed rating of this group. CRUZIN TATUM - I like that recent effort on Sep 22nd at Belterra Park where she finished third. Generally accepted handicapping angle - 3rd or 4th start after a vacation generally leads to a big effort. A live horse today.

I think FRONTLINER is a quite good choice. This gelding has a good win percent in dirt sprint races. Could beat this group given the 90 speed figure posted in his last outing. Johnson has this gelding travelling well and is a strong selection based on the decent speed figures posted in sprint races recently. LADY'S BOY - Always good to invest in a trainer with this kind of strong win percentage - 22 percent - at this distance & surface. Will probably be one of the leaders of the group going into the midpoint of the competition. ELGAR - Has to be considered versus this group of animals displaying very strong numbers as of late and an average Equibase Speed Fig of 89 under similar conditions. Players should probably take a good look at this one as this horse has one of the best win percentages at this distance in this field.

Forecast: Fun Money and Cholly have decent main track form, but both will be making their first start on grass, so we’re not quite sure how much, if any, they will improve or regress with the switch in surface. ‘Money isn’t particular fast on numbers, but she’s stakes placed along with hitting the board in three maiden special weight affairs, so we suspect she’ll run her race. Cholly, in the frame in both starts with improving numbers, should be part of the pace throughout and is the one to fear most. In a race that doesn’t offer much to work with, we’ll try to get by using just these two.

Forecast: Brittle and You returns to the claiming ranks but remains above her purchase price, so suspect the Eddie Truman-trained mare can return to winning form after finishing a respectable third in a much tougher allowance optional claimer at Los Alamitos last month. Reunited with “win rider” Juan Hernandez, the veteran daughter of Include is solid on numbers and should be able to produce a winning late bid. Mercy Mercy is double jumped in class by new trainer Steve Knapp after beating $16,000 sellers at Del Mar in mid-August. She’s a perfect one-for-one over the Santa Anita main track and projects to be prominent throughout. Brittle and You gets preference on top, but we’ll use both in our rolling exotics.

Forecast: Maeve of Connaught closed against the grain to finish a promising second at a big price (19-1) in a similar maiden turf router for fillies and mares last month at Del Mar and if she can duplicate that performance today she’ll have every chance to produce a winning late kick. She makes a positive jockey switch to Umberto Rispoli and shows a couple of recent easy breezes to tick her over. Leisurewear and Vivando, a close third and fourth, respectively, in the same race ‘Connaught exits, certainly won’t have to improve much to win, so we’ll toss them in as well in a race that probably should be handled with care.

Forecast: There’s a condition question surrounding Colonel Bowman after he was a voided claim for $20,000 at Del Mar in August, but if the Robertino Diodoro-trained gelding has at least one good one left he should be able to win at this $12,500 level. The Curlin gelding has back numbers that would bury this group, and his recent work pattern is encouraging. Of Good Report and Lookin for Revenge, one-two finishers in an $8,000 claiming miler at Los Alamitos last month, meet again at the big track on the raise and will be contenders if ‘Bowman doesn’t fire.

Forecast: See Through It looks pretty solid in this $25,000 claiming turf sprint, but at 8/5 on the morning line with the possibility of going lower there may not be much value available. The Doug O’Neill-trained gelding is winless in five starts over the local turf course but has finished second twice while earning speed figures that are good enough to win at this level, and a recent fast, highly rated score in an abbreviated grass dash at Del Mar last month earned a career top speed figure. He’ll beat this field with a repeat of that race, though the fact that his new connections aren’t protecting him on the raise is somewhat concerning. We suggest you approach this race with a degree of caution.

Forecast: Fort Bragg had the misfortunate of debuting in the same race that stablemate Speed Boat Beach broke the Del Mar five and one-half furlong track record and did well to finish third after moving within range at the head of the lane before understandably flattening out. Three bullet workouts since that race tells us the son of Tapit will be fitter and tighter today, and while we’d normally prefer to see another sprint prep before stretching out, the Bob Baffert barn hits with an amazing 32% with the second time starter angle and we suspect the added distance won’t be a problem. Practical Move in the frame in both of his starts, has the two-sprints-and-a-stretch-out angle in his chart and better than par speed figures for juvenile maidens, so he’s a “must use” on our ticket, as well.

Forecast: Square Cat found five furlongs on turf a little bit too sharp and did well to finish a closing second in a similar state-bred first level allowance dash at Del Mar last month. This Hillside Turf Course looks ideally suited for his second flight, stalking style, so let’s give the Brian Korinor-trained gelding top billing at or around his morning line of 2-1. Moose Mitchell is the one he’ll most likely have to beat. Claimed in his last pair and now in the George Papaprodromou barn, the Danzing Candy gelding is protected today in a sign of confidence while seeking his third straight win, and if he can repeat his dirt numbers on grass he’ll be hard to beat. We’ll give Square Cat the edge on top but include both in rolling exotic play.

He’s out of a Thorn Song mare, and that’s where the positive grass influence hopefully will come from. There’s probably not a whole lot of value at his morning line of 8/5 but if you’re playing rolling exotics the son of Clubhouse Ride would appear to be a logical single.

Forecast: Reincarnate will have to overcome his outside draw in this one mile maiden turf affair for 2-year-olds but after missing by a neck under similar conditions last month at Del Mar and hailing from a barn that excels with second-time starters (32%), the Bob Baffert-trained son of Good Magic seems the logical top choice. A five furlong training track bullet workout (:58 3/5) since raced is encouraging, to say the least. Valiancer is a three-time maiden whose form has been compromised by poor racing luck, some of it self-caused. After finishing a better-than-looked third in the Del Mar Juvenile Turf Stakes (behind stable mate Packs a Wahlop, who came back to win the Zuma Beach Stakes yesterday), this son of Tapiture should find this group within his capabilities. Both should be used in rolling exotic play with preference on top to Reincarnate.

#3 Argyll He's probably a good fit here while finding the cheapest spot of his career, and he should be in a good spot to assume command if Rogers Ginger stops.
Race Summary My Two Aunt Joans might get a touch overlooked in here while dropping hard for this second start, and I'm not totally sold on either of the two more logical players listed here.

#1 Resist the Devil Reliable finisher should get a good run while saving ground behind the pace early, but he has been beaten in recent starts by a few who he'll meet again here, so I'm hoping we get a bit better price than last time out.
#8 Call Me Later He posted a nice upset last time out, and he has the right kind of style to land a perfect trip while spying the early pace again today. Wouldn't be shocked to see him win right back.
#2 Merlin's Song He has some good back form over synthetic footing at Arlington, so maybe the move here will bring him up enough to land a piece of this one. Possible.
Race Summary Resist the Devil should be a slightly better price this time around, and I think he can outfinish these from the inside. Hoping a couple potential forward players will keep the splits honest enough.

#1 Vaccina Her route form has been pretty solid, and I like that she has a little versatility to probably avoid getting into an early battle with Moon Chant here. Hoping she lands this with a couple price players in the mix underneath.
#6 Moon Chant She's probably a little dicey late in the lane, but she has the kind of pace that can be dangerous in a spot like this. Her best stuff keeps her in the mix, let's see if she can get brave.
#7 Rolling Mo Her recent form gives her a chance at a piece of this while rising in class, and I think she might land the right kind of trip from close range.
Race Summary Vaccina looks like the right one here with enough pace to be up front early, but she also has some ability to relax which may serve her well in this spot.

Monday NFL Free play. My selection is on the 'over' between Las Vegas and Kansas City at 8:15 pm et on Monday.


We've seen a string of low-scoring NFL primetime games and while that obviously has no real effect on the way tonight's affair plays out on the field, I do think it helps to keep the total in check as bettors become a little more hesitant to 'auto-bet' the 'over' in these spotlight games. I believe we're set up for a shootout as the Raiders head to Kansas City to challenge the Chiefs on Monday. The Chiefs woes in pass defense have been somewhat masked by the explosiveness of their offense this season and I expect that to continue to be the theme on Monday night. The Raiders have actually been moving the football at will but haven't been able to finish enough drives with seven's rather than three's to avoid a disappointing 1-3 start. It's worth noting that Las Vegas QB Derek Carr will be facing a weaker secondary, in my opinion, than he saw last Sunday at home against the Broncos. Here, we'll note that the 'over' has gone 14-8 in the Raiders last 22 games as an underdog and 10-6 in their last 16 contests where the total was set at 49.5 points or higher, as is the case here. Meanwhile, the 'over' is 18-12 in the Chiefs last 30 games against AFC opponents and has also cashed in all four meetings in this series over the last two seasons. Take the over.
