The Ararat Racing Club is set to host a competitive eight-race program on Tuesday afternoon, and HorseBetting’s Victorian form expert has combed through the card and found a couple of best bets for the day. The track has come up a Soft 6 following recent rain in the area, but with a clear day forecast on Monday and then again on Tuesday, racing on a Good 4 would not surprise. We kick off the action at 1:30pm AEDT, with the rail in the true position for the entire course.
Best Bet at Ararat: Onika

The Ciaron Maher & David Eustace barn brings Onika to the Ararat 1100m, and he boasts arguably the best form in this BM58 affair. The four-year-old mare went down by a long neck to the smart All About Eve two starts back, a runner who has since come out and won again on Ballarat Cup Day. This daughter of Written Tycoon settles up on speed and continues to keep hitting the line strongly, and a repeat effort on recent form should see her prove too good for this lot. John Allen will look to have her settled in the one-one from barrier five, and with a nice turn of foot, Onika should have this race sewn up pretty quickly.

Next Best at Ararat: Rock Dee Jay

We need to be patient for one of our better bets of the day when the Henry Dwyer-trained Rock Dee Jay looks to build off an impressive maiden victory at Seymour on November 11. The Awesome Rock gelding was forced to travel four wide with no cover on that day over 1300m but packed plenty to go on and win by just under a length. This BM58 he comes to is not the hardest event going around, and if John Allen can have him in the coveted three-wide line with cover, Rock Dee Jay looks like the one they have to beat. He has a runner-up effort to his name already at the Ararat 1300m, and with that race experience at the track and confidence on his side, this guy looks a great bet in the last.

It has been 12 months since the Henry Dwyer-trained Toffee Street was last seen under raceday conditions, but considering this is the easiest assignment in her career to date, she looks a great play. The four-year-old mare has chased home the likes of Dosh, Xtra Gear, Viviane and Joseylin in her career and has been far from disgraced. Based on jumpouts leading into this run, Mitchell Aitken will have this daughter of Street Boss settled up on speed throughout. At $13 with online Bookmaker (http://www.bookmaker.eu/?cmpid=4437)s, this looks a great play to find out if she can go on with the job this campaign.

Mahoning Valley - Race #4
Picks Notes
#1 Rikio Price probably won't be much here, but he should be tough in what feels like a soft race for the local level. He's quick enough to be in the mix from the start with these and probably wins this with anything like one of his best efforts.
#2 Insaciable Prince He has had 24 career chances, so he's not brimming with excuses at this point, but his baseline effort might be good enough to land another underneath piece with these.
#5 Charted He'll go first out in a spot that doesn't feel too deep, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him grab a share right out of the box. Take a look on the tote and track.
Race Summary Rikio has enough pace to be a forward player from the fence, and he's a good fit here on paper while rising back into a special weight spot for the first time since his debut run.

Mahoning Valley - Race #7
Picks Notes
#4 Hidden Ruler He should be in line for a great trip behind a trio of potential forward players, and I'd love to see him settle just off that early battle and get first jump on any finishing threats. Lots to like.
#2 The Cookie Man Think he's the best of the pace in this spot while trying to kind of level for the first time in a bit, and he should be able to prompt the rail pace from the start here. Wouldn't be a shock.
#7 Shadow Surprise His form isn't all that reliable, but he has been in with some better groups in recent starts and might be able to chase and hang around for a piece with these.
Race Summary Hidden Ruler has been a bit one-paced in his recent starts, but he could get a pretty dreamy run of things in here and showed he was a good fit with the locals last out.

Mahoning Valley - Race #8
Picks Notes
#7 Empire's Fire He has run a couple races over the local footing that would absolutely leave the rest running for second in here if he were to bring anything even close to that, and he's got enough of a rating gear to sit just a touch off the speed. Super likely winner at a short price.
#2 To Win He's an honest enough finisher who would benefit from a few of the forward players going at it early, and his ceiling is high enough to conceivably get the job done here if the top choice doesn't bring his very best game.
#6 Simon Says Pace probably has some company up near the top in this one, but he has run a few pretty big races in his career, and he's at least a little bit interesting if he's able to shake his pace foes off a little bit around the turn.
Race Summary Empire's Fire will get bet here, but he is supposed to win this race and should be able to find a good spot just behind any early pace battle. Guessing he's a solid single to close the card at an unappealing price.
