SMOOTH RICO - Don't often see a profitable ROI like +34. This jockey/trainer twosome has done well together over the last twelve months. Rode this animal on November 27th and Morelos is back again in the irons this time. Gonzalez drops him down to this class level. You don't need too much more from the horse's history to think this horse should run well at this level. MIDNIGHT GETAWAY - This horse coming off a good race in the last month is a win candidate in my opinion. I like the fact that this gelding's last speed figure, 63, is tops in this bunch. I normally play back maiden winners who were disqualified. COSMIC SPECULATION - I have to like this gelding's chances to win at the shorter trip. Looking at today's Equibase class figure, this horse is meeting an easier bunch than last race out at Gulfstream Park. Ranks uppermost in earnings per start. A dominant performance today can augment that bankroll. 'Blinkers On' is a time-honored positive angle in handicapping the races.

Don't think this questionable contender will improve too much today. MR. AMERICAN - Hard to bet this steed the way he ran squirrelly last time out of the box. BLUE MAVERICK - I'm foretelling a less than stellar attempt out of him in today's event.

FIELDSTONE - All systems look good for this gelding. Last prep, 2nd fastest of the day, shows he's fit and ready. I like the fact that this gelding's last speed fig, 86, is tops in this bunch. The ROI when Graham and Sharp partner up is good. SEEKING SPLENDOR - Trainer Silva moves this animal down in class to face a weaker class today. Look for a strong race at this level. I think Fair Grounds players know a good thing when they see the jockey/trainer tandem of Parker and Silva. Their win pct together has been positive. Look for this gelding to run much better in this event. Last event at Canterbury Park finishing 12th on the soft turf is no indication of his true ability.

I've got to go with RENEGADE PRINCESS. Have to examine solely on class, with some of the most competitive class numbers of this group. Has put up formidable Equibase speed figs in turf route races in the past. I like the rider on this filly - formidable chance to win the contest. WALK SOFTLY - Martinez has shown excellent profits (+10 ROI ) with horses in turf route events. Has to be considered a definite contender on earnings per start at the distance/surface alone. PINK CHANNEL - Demonstrates the look of a money-making play, averaging a solid 66 speed figure which is one of the most respectable in this group of animals.

That leaves the door open here for the Penguins to avenge a 3-2 loss to Carolina last week. Utah is a team that finds themselves in a lot of high-scoring games. Jazz are T-5th in the NBA in offensive efficiency, they are 25th in defensive efficiency and play at a Top 15 pace. They should be able to dictate the temp in this one.
Utah is scoring 121.5 ppg at home this season. The average combined score in Jazz home games this season is 237.4 ppg. This is also a Utah team that has struggled on the defensive side of the ball.
