UNCLE LEON - I'll bet that this gelding even surprised his connections when he made his first start on Sep 3rd and finished second. Martinez should be able to place this gelding right behind the pace. Ideally, Martinez will rate behind the leaders, then surge on the turn. The jock and handler combination have a positive return on investment when they combine forces. REGAL REDWOOD - Jockey jumped on this colt's back for the first time on September 3rd. Should be in tune with the horse even better in today's race. Quite frequently, I play a maiden that finished runner-up easily ahead of the 3rd-place finisher in his last race. Recent Equibase speed figs show powerful pattern of improvement.

I've got to go with SICKEM. Boasts solid Equibase Speed Figures on average overall when compared with the rest of this group of horses in this race. Should be given a chance - I like the figures from the last competition. Must be considered given the class of races run lately. BUNNY ON WATER - Should be given a shot based on the very strong speed rating posted in the last contest. Has decent Equibase Class Figures relative to this field - worth a look. KOOL STORM - The Lasix change (with second time Lasix) may spark a return for this filly. Will most likely be one of the early speedsters of the pack going into the midpoint of the race.

The last rating of 85 is the best last race speed figure in the group. AL ATLASI - I like this colt. Has the uppermost earnings per start (EPS) in here.

ZOZAN - This colt almost certainly won't be really close at the wire. You always believe this horse has a shot to be victorious, but he fails frequently. Will be tough for this racer to beat this bunch off of that last speed figure. Has a substantial shot in this event, if he can repeat his back racing class. If performance in the last outing is representative, this solid standardbred will have a very very good shot for this one. High last race speed rating. GINGERTREE STAKIAS - Has the makings of a profitable play, averaging a rather good 85 speed rating. Seems to have a respectable class edge based on the competition he has faced. TARGET PRACTICE - Excellent winning statistic makes this horse an excellent choice to take home the dough.

FLYING SCOTSMAN - Last raced at Colonial Downs carrying 35 lbs more. The lower weight in this event should serve him well. MEGACITY - In my opinion, you need 'class' to be successful on the grass. This one has the highest average class figure in the field. Horses out of the barn of Rodriguez have been strong on the turf. Should perform well right here. I like the piece of information that this gelding's last speed rating, 99, is tops in this field. UNCLE CURLY - Lopez and Walder perform well when they team up. It's hard to beat a +370 return on investment for a rider and trainer. Lopez is right back for another event today after getting on board this animal for the initial time on August 18th and ought to know the ropes to this one a little better. CANNON'S ROAR - Had a dominant closing move last time out, running the last quarter in less than 25 seconds. A similar performance today, and it's straight to the winner's circle.

Vulnerable Contenders: #4 AMERICAN UNITY (ML=4/1), #10 ORIGINAL (ML=9/2), #1 GRADED ON A CURVE (ML=6/1),

AMERICAN UNITY - Finished first in his most recent race with a disappointing speed figure. When I look at today's Equibase class figure, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this field. ORIGINAL - Finished sixth last time. Would have to move up to finish in the money in today's event. Don't believe this racer will do much running in today's race. That last fig was substandard when compared with today's Equibase class figure. GRADED ON A CURVE - The Equibase speed figures continue to decline, 93/86/74. Not a good sign. The move down the stretch drive on August 19th indicated to me that this equine will have a tough go of it versus this field of stiffer competition. Finished first in his most recent race with a substandard speed fig. When I look at today's Equibase class figure, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this field.

CLAUDETTE HEIR - Racing at a similar level as last race on Sep 8th at Remington Park. I think Young has found a good spot for her, and I like her chances right here. In my opinion, you need 'class' to be successful on the grass. This one has the highest average class figure in the bunch. ORNATELY - Shipped in on Aug 24th to take the top prize here. Take right back again. Comparing how the horses in this field have fared under similar conditions, I see this animal has the highest Equibase speed figure for the distance-surface. She has the uppermost (EPS) earnings per start. Give the once over to this horse. This filly is in excellent form right now. Finished first last time around the track and comes back soon.

Vulnerable Contenders: #11 KIRBY KAYE (ML=9/2), #5 GHOST BAYOU (ML=5/1), #7 SKY ROCKER (ML=6/1),

KIRBY KAYE - Hard to bet this one after not being near the front at 1 mile and now being entered in a race of 7 1/2 furlongs. This entrant ran a disappointing speed rating in the last race. She shouldn't improve and will likely lose in today's event running that number. GHOST BAYOU - The pace situation just isn't too promising for this front-runner. Many other horses would have to scratch to promote her dreams at winning. SKY ROCKER - Usually I need a sprinter to have some success lately in short distance contests in order to support her. 1st race [Md Sp Wt, 1 mi] – (1) Revolving Credit pressed the pace, got the lead, and then finished second beaten by a half-length. (4) Paris Style ran twice at Saratoga and got a third and a second. (2) Vivid Dreams missed by a nose in his first start of the year at Monmouth Park and then shipped north to the Spa and was third. (6) Magical Song moved from the barn of Brad Cox to Todd Pletcher and since made one start at Saratoga on a muddy track.

2nd race [NY, Joseph A. Gimma, 7F] – (3) Caldwell Luvs Gold won both of his starts which were at Saratoga moving from her maiden victory to a NY-bred stakes race. (5) My Mane Squeeze was a convincing maiden winner in her second start at the Spa. (2) My Shea D Lady broke her maiden at Gulfstream Park with a more than three length margin and then was third behind the top choice in that stakes race. (4) Nicky Jolene got her first victory in her second start at Belmont Park by four lengths.

3rd race [NY, Md Sp Wt, 1 1/16 mi TURF] – (2) Arisaema (A) tossed her head at the break putting her last in a 12 horse field and she managed to rally for second. (8) Starts Now gets blinkers on after three second-place finishes in a row and Irad Ortiz stays on board. (3) Lady Laoban gets a pass for her last bad race which was moved off the turf. Her prior start was a third on the grass. (4) Splashy could get loose on the lead in this field. Two races back she ran second but did not appear to like the yielding turf at Saratoga.

9th race [OC 62k/N2X, 6F TURF] – (1A) Senbei (A) was restrained early, got blocked and checked, and lost all chance. In his prior start he set the pace and then missed the win by a neck. (10) Chewing Gum gets class relief dropping in for the claiming option after contesting tough allowance conditions this year and graded stakes last year. At Kentucky Downs he had a good third for Bill Mott. (5) Fauci had two starts this year and both were second-place finishes but the speed figure made a big advance. (2) Run Curtis Run will make his 2023 debut after racing in stakes competition and winning the Carle Place at Aqueduct.

The Cowboys have averaged 323.5 yards per game while allowing 193 ypg. Tony Pollard leads the team in rushing with 70 ypg this year and Dak Prescot has two TD's and no INT's. The Cardinals played well in their opener at Washington, but came up short in the end, 16-20. Last week they blew a nice lead at home against the Giants and once again lost, 28-31. Joshua Dobbs is at QB and has one TD and No INT's on the season. It's going to be a rough day for this Cardinals offense against the Dallas defense. I'll take the Dallas Cowboys in what should be a one sided affair on Sunday.

This is a play on the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS-2.5 -110 for our Sunday Free Play. The Jets put up a gallant effort against Buffalo in the season opener as it won in overtime after quarterback Aaron Rodgers going down after only four plays. The defense came up big against Josh Allen which has been the case for a while but they regressed last week against a Dallas offense that simply went through the motions because that is all that was needed. Zach Wilson was getting praise throughout camp learning from Rodgers but he clearly is not the answer. While he was efficient against Buffalo by completing 67 percent of his passes, he did not go down field in throwing for just 140 yards and he was a disaster last week with a 38.1 rating. Now he faces a Bill Belichick led defense that will cause more fits. New England is 0-2 with two tough losses against quality opposition and both games were right there for the taking. Early turnovers have hurt the Patriots and going into Week Three, they are ranked No. 32 in the Luck Rankings which shows them being the unluckiest team than what their on-field performance indicates. Quarterback Mac Jones is learning a new system under offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien and he has looked comfortable with the exception of two bad throws. He completed 74 percent of his passes last week and his early quarterback rating is closer to what it was in 2021 than what it was last season. This is the first 0-2 start for New England since 2001 and while Tom Brady is not here to help the rebound, this is a spot Belichick has flourished in with or without Brady as he is 18-3 following consecutive losses including 5-0 the last two years. Off to an 0-2 start, it's not exactly desperation time for Sean Payton's Broncos, but it's getting close. The Dolphins are off to a perfect 2-0 start following consecutive road victories, including a narrow win over the division-rival Patriots last Sunday night in Foxborough. While Miami is expected to have LT Terron Armstead back on the field, it is likely to be missing Jaylen Waddle in its receiving corps. I don't think Waddle's absence can be understated. That means the Broncos can put Patrick Surtain II on Tyreek Hill primarily, taking the pressure off of the rest of their defense. There's absolutely nothing special about this matchup for the Dolphins offense. The question becomes whether the Denver offense can do enough to put any pressure on Miami's defense. I've come away encouraged by what I've seen from Broncos QB Russell Wilson through the first two games. WR Jerry Jeudy returned last week and should put some pressure on the Miami secondary here. I believe this line should be closer to a field goal. Take Denver.

The Houston Texans are coming into Week 3 at 0-2 SU/ATS, but I think they can at least get an ATS cover here against a Jacksonville team that mustered only 271 yards of total offense in a loss to KC in Week 2.

While the Texans have nothing to show for it so far, QB C.J. Stroud has arguably been the NFL's best rookie quarterback through two weeks, and the Texans are entering the week with the fifth most passing yards in the NFL. As such, the backdoor will be wide open for a cover even if the Jags get an early lead.

I think the Texans can keep this within a touchdown, and note that over the last three seasons, the Jags are only 2-6 ATS as a favorite.

Jack's Free Pick Sunday: Green Bay Packers -2

The New Orleans Saints are off to a 2-0 start this season against a pretty weak schedule. I think they are getting too much respect for their two wins, and they should be at least a 3-point underdog here against the Green Bay Packers. We are getting good value here laying this short number with the Packers at home.

The Saints opened the season with a 1-point home win over the Tennessee Titans despite being gifted 3 interceptions from Ryan Tannehill. Last week, the Saints beat the Panthers by 3 on the road. That's the same Panthers team that lost by 14 on the road to the Falcons the week prior and looks like one of the worst teams in the NFL to this point. That makes this a short week for the Saints after playing on Monday Night Football, and this is clearly a step up in class for them this week.

I think if you asked the Packers prior to the season they would have taken a 1-1 start considering their first two games came on the road. After blasting the Bears 38-20, the Packers blew a 12-point 4th quarter lead to the Falcons last week and lost 25-24 on a last-minute field goal. You can bet they will be out for blood this week after playing seven great quarters and one terrible one that cost them a 2-0 start.

Now the Packers will be playing their home opener with one of the biggest home-field advantages in the NFL. They will be fired up in support of Jordan Love's home debut. Love has been very good with a 6-to-0 TD/INT ratio and 35 rushing yards and 7.0 per carry thus far. After not having two of his best weapons against the Falcons in WR Christian Watson and RB Aaron Jones, there's a chance he gets both back this week. Watson returned to practice and is probable, while Jones is a 50/50 proposition.

The Packers are fully healthy on defense and improved. The Saints are only scoring 18.0 points per game this season and are dealing with injuries of their own on offense. They just aren't nearly as explosive without Alvin Kamara, who will miss this game as well. His replacement Jamaal Williams is doubtful with a hamstring injury. QB Taysom Hill has been getting a lot of work in the backfield as a result, and even he's questionable with a knee injury.

Matt LaFleur is 12-3 ATS in September games as the coach of Green Bay. LaFleur is 10-2 ATS off a road loss as the coach of the Packers. Green Bay is 10-2 ATS in its last 12 home games vs. conference opponents. The Packers are 13-4 ATS in their last 17 games coming off a road game. Bet the Packers Sunday.

I like the Broncos to cover the 6.5-point spread on the road against the Dolphins. Even though Denver has started out 0-2, there's no denying that they are a much better team than they were a year ago. The offense is putting up 24.5 ppg and 5.9 yards/play. I like Russell Wilson and this Broncos offense to be able to move the ball against a Dolphins defense that is giving up 25.5 ppg and 360 ypg. I also think the Denver defense will be able to hold their own against this high-powered Miami offense. Sean Payton is 16-6 ATS in 22 road games as a head coach as a dog of 3.5 to 7 points. Russell Wilson is 12-5 ATS in games as a dog of 3 to 10 points and 158-8 ATS in his last 23 as a road dog. Give me the Broncos +6.5!

#467 ASA PLAY ON Indianapolis Colts +8.5 at Baltimore Ravens, Sunday at 1 PM ET - We are on the visiting dog here with the Colts and the points. Let’s start with the scheduling and preceding results for both teams. Baltimore is off a big road win over an AFC North rival Cincinnati, are a ‘fat’ 2-0, and have road dates looming at Cleveland and Pittsburgh. We are not overly impressed with either of the Ravens wins as they were largely outplayed in Week #1 by the Texans at home, then beat a struggling Bengals team with an injured QB in Burrows. The Colts meanwhile lost by 10pts at home in the opener to a Jags team that scored two TD’s in the final 5:14 of the game. Last week the Colts went to Houston and beat the Texans 31-21 and averaged 6.3 yards per play offensively. Indianapolis was balanced with 126-rushing yards and 227-passing. They did lose QB Richardson in the game with a concussion, but Gardner Minshew might be the best backup in the league. Minshew came into the game and went 19 of 23 for 171-yards and a TD. Based on some core statistics there isn’t an 8-point difference between these two teams. The Colts allowed 4.9YPP (12th best) the Ravens allow 4.3YPP (4th). Indianapolis averages 5.1YPP offensively, the Ravens average 5.3YPP. Baltimore is just 14-24 ATS since 2018 as a home favorite with an average +/- of +6.1PPG. Looking at that same time frame, the Colts are 17-11-2 ATS as a road dog (60.7%) with an average +/- versus the spread of +1.4PPG. Grab the points and the dog.

Given that the Ravens are one of the more banged-up teams in the NFL - if not the most injured team - and are in a division sandwich this spot sets up well for the Colts to stay within a touchdown. The line is past a touchdown because Anthony Richardson is out with a concussion. But the Colts might be better off in this tough road setting with veteran backup Gardner Minshew. Of course Richardson is the more spectacular player. Minshew, though, is less inclined to make mistakes and is the more accurate passer. He's one of the best second-string quarterbacks in the NFL. Indianapolis has a strong pass rush and the Ravens are minus perhaps their two best offensive linemen with left tackle Ronnie Stanley and center Tyler Linderbaum out. Gus Edwards is Baltimore's lone decent healthy running back with J.K. Dobbins out for the season and Justice Hill ruled out with a foot injury. Lamar Jackson will have one less quality receiver to throw to with Odell Beckham Jr. out with an ankle injury. The Ravens also have injuries on defense with cornerback Marlon Humphrey, safety Marcus Williams and linebacker Odafe Oweh ruled out. It's the Colts who could have the best defensive player on the field in Zaire Franklin. He leads the NFL in tackles. Baltimore is fat and happy at 2-0. The Ravens, however, were out-gained by the Texans in Week 1 and were able to beat the Bengals last week with Joe Burrow still rusty. Up next for the Ravens is an AFC North Division road game against the Browns. So this could be both a look-ahead and letdown spot for Baltimore. The Ravens are 5-10 (33 percent) ATS the past 15 times they've been favored.

My friends, I could make this analysis as short and sweet as I am, and just say “this is way too many points for Jacksonville to be laying.” Guys, I am fully aware of the fact the Houston Texans are 0-2, both straight up and against the spread the season. I have been reading this week because the Texans lost last week to the Colts, 31-20, we should fade them because the Jaguars defeated the Colts a few weeks ago, 31-21. That is a huge mistake made by sports bettors all the time. Sure, you can gauge a few things against how one team plays a certain team as opposed to another. But football is about situations. And this is a very different situation. Prior to the January 1, 2023 Jacksonville win over Houston, the Texans took the nine previous meetings in this series straight up, going 7-2 against the spread. The Texans have always played the Jaguars very tough, my friends. No question Trevor Lawrence is a very good quarterback. No question CJ Stroud isn’t as far along as many had hoped this early in the season. But right now, after just a few games in to the regular season, the Texans possess the fifth ranked passing unit in the NFL, while the Jaguars own the 15th ranked passing offense. The fact that neither team is really running the ball with any success, tells me that this will come down to mistakes. And right now, Lawrence has made a few more miscues than Stroud. And on top of that, when it comes down to crunch time, and by that, I mean in the red zone, the Jaguars have come up way short. Do I think on paper t they were a better team than the Texans? The Panthers (0-2, 0-1-1 ATS) are gearing up to face the Seahawks (1-1, 1-1 ATS) at Lumen Field, with kickoff set for 4PM. It's a crucial match as both teams look to improve their NFC records. The betting odds tell a compelling story. The Seahawks are currently sitting at -6.5 points. When it comes to the ML, the Hawks are at -290, while the Panthers stand at +235. The Total, is set at 41.5 (O/U). As we approach Sunday betting action, the Seahawks' number has seen a slight dip, reflecting the influence of sharp money or public money flowing in on Carolina.

The injury reports are a mess, and as I write this we still don't have the Friday NFL reports, so please check those out there are a number of key injuries on both sides in this one. They do play a factor.

Bryce Young is going to get an introduction to a road-game-playoff-atmosphere on Sunday in Seattle. Always one of the loudest venues to play at Lumen can be a nightmare for rookie QB's trying to make adjustments at the line. (It's damn near impossible). Bobby Wagner will have this Hawks D flying all over the field on Sunday, and IF they get Jamal Adams back (I think they do) it will be even tougher for Young.

The Panthers are losing defensive starters daily. Horn, then Thompson. These guys are needed to win road games when facing the likes of Smith, Metcalf, Lockett, and Smith-Njigba. This is a tall task for the Panthers defense. Throw in Walker III and Charbonnet coming down hill at you all day and this doesn't look good.

IF for some reason Dalton starts the 7 points (Hawks will cover the 5) will be tougher to cover, but having said that with Young, the Hawks will win by 10-14). The Hawks got right last week with a huge road win over the Lions in a crazy loud Detroit.

Some trends to note, Carolina are 2-11 SU in their last 13 games on the road, are 3-8 SU in their last 11 games against Seattle.

This is a long trip for the Panthers on a short week, and we're on the Hawks -5 on Sunday.

Josh Dobbs won't be able to match Dak and company score for score. The Cowboys also clearly have one of the best defenses in the NFL yet again this season.
