I back BOARDWALK QUEEN here. Have to wager on this filly with the strong earnings per start in dirt sprint races. She has competitive class ratings, averaging 76, and has to be considered in this race. She has recorded formidable figures under today's conditions and will probably fare well against this field. MISS CHARGE IT - She has a good opportunity for this event as trainer, Ramirez, has strong win rate with horses going this distance. The Equibase Speed Figure of 62 from her most recent race looks strong in here. KETANJI - Horses who have been prepared to race at this distance and surface by Broberg have shown sharp results as of late. Is hard not to examine based on speed figures which have been formidable - 58 avg - of late.

NAUTICAL MILE - It looks like Rowland had to 'know' this filly on December 6th when riding her for the initial time. Back aloft again today. Looking at the pps on all of these ponies, this is the only one to stalk. Worth a long hard look at this horse. Padilla drops her down to this class level. You don't need too much more handicapping knowledge to figure that this horse should run well at this level. DIXIE MUSIC - This race horse should be rumbling in the homestretch.

R THREE ANGELS - This equine is at the top in (EPS) earnings per start. She looks solid in today's affair. Lasix can take some getting used to, especially for a filly. They usually hit stride the second time using it, like we have with this horse.

GRAY ROYALITY - This questionable contender hasn't been on the track since December 19th. Not even any workouts. CANDY ISLAND - Finished second in her most recent performance with a mediocre speed figure. When I look at today's class rating, it would take an improved performance to triumph after that in this group. LADY JASPER - Thoroughbred ran a great rating last out, but that was on the mud.

With a reliable rider who has won at a formidable 18 percent clip over the last month. This has to be one of the top selections. Has been running soundly lately and will most likely be on or close to the lead early on. KEEN CONTENDER - Rivera has a winning percentage of 31 over the last 30 days. Ran a solid last race. IZZY'S MONSTER - Reason to like this filly as she has in the irons one of the best jocks using winning percentages over the last month. Always seems to be close up at the finishing post.

GRANDMA'S PUDDING - Don't often see a favorable ROI like +830. This jockey/trainer duo has done well together over the last year. The Dec 22nd race at Gulfstream Park was at a class level of (81). Dropping down in class considerably, so she should be in a good position to win. Went a route in a $16,000 Claiming race at Gulfstream Park last time around the track from an outside post position. Moving to the inside at a similar distance should help this mare. DREAM TRAP - Trainer Orseno gave this filly a good stiff workout. Last one was 2nd fastest of the day. Trainer Orseno moves this one down the class scale to face a lower class field. Look for a solid performance in here. NUMERIC - Thomas and Crichton getting together are a horse gambler's friend. I like to bet on this handicapping theory, a pony coming back off a sharp effort within the last month or so. 56-61-67 are last three speed ratings. Improving each time out is something she should do again today.

SUBTLE FAITH - Difficult to put any money on this filly on the win end. Likes to land in the top three though. GOODBETTERBEST - Unlikely that this horse will finish better than she did last time when placing seventh. SHEZ SPEIGHTFUL - Hard to gamble on these non-winning types at less than generous odds. Hard to keep stabbing at this kind of 'bridesmaid' horse.

My “Cutting Room Floor” plays are the situations I considered the closest to being worthy of investment but did not make the “final cut” for my official plays today for subscribers. The last play I cut for Thursday afternoon is with Camilo Villegas versus Grayson Murray in Round One head-to-head props. Murray is a prime candidate for a letdown in the first day of this tournament after he won the PGA Sony Open five days ago. Murray won twice on the Korn Ferry Tour last year — but this was just his second victory on the PGA Tour. Murray has three top-15s at The American Express — but he has also missed the cut twice. Villegas comes into this event a bit undervalued after missing the cut at the Sony Open last week. He followed up a second place at the Worldwide Technology Championship with a first place at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship last November. Villegas is no stranger to this event having played here as a professional eight previous times. Take Villegas (7141) versus Murray (7142) in Round One head-to-head props. Best of luck — Frank.

Matt FargoThis is a play on the SOUTH DAKOTA JACKRABBITS-9.5 for our Thursday Free Play. South Dakota St. opened the season 2-0 in the Summit League and those wins were sandwiched around a split in the Big Sky/Summit Challenge but the Jackrabbits are coming off a 19-point loss against Nebraska Omaha and are now a half-game out of first place. South Dakota St. returns home where it is 5-2, both losses coming out of the conference against MAC teams Kent St. and Akron. The Jackrabbits finished second in the conference last season and have been pegged to win it this year and can pick up a game on a leader on Thursday. Nebraska Omaha won a pair of games at home against North Dakota and North Dakota St. to improve to 3-1 in the conference. The Mavericks have won three straight games in the Summit League following a 15-point opening loss against Denver and the recent run includes a win at South Dakota which is their only road win of the season. They are 0-7 in their other seven true road games, four by double digits and three others against Air Force, Texas A&M-CC and Idaho St., and there is value based on their current 5-0 ATS run. The Calgary Flames are 11-7-1 at home but the Toronto Maple Leafs are 11-4-6 on the road. They've won the last three head-to-head meetings with the Flames and seven of the last 10.
I think this looks like a potential flat spot for the Flames who are coming off four consecutive wins while we should see a hungry Maple Leafs team looking to end a four-game skid.
This is a classic buy low/sell high spot, and the fact that the Leafs are favorites despite the two teams' recent results is quite telling.

The favorite has gone 8-2 in 10 all-time meetings between these two teams and I think the oddsmakers have got it right once again on Thursday. New York checks in off consecutive wins which come on the heels of a four-game losing streak. The Rangers have fared far better when in positive momentum situations in recent years, going 81-56 in their last 137 contests following a win. They're also 29-21 in their last 50 games after a home win in which they scored four goals or more, as is the case here. Vegas is coming off a 4-1 victory over Nashville on Monday but hasn't delivered consecutive wins since a four-game winning streak from December 6th to 12th. The Knights are dealing with a number of key injuries right now and check in having gone a mediocre 25-27 in their last 52 games following a home win in which they produced at least four goals. Take New York.

Joey TronI like the Pacers+8.5 -115 to cover this spread on the road against the Kings. Reports indicate that newly acquired star Pascal Siakam will not play, however I still believe the Pacers can cover this for us. They may have lost back to back, but I see this as a good spot for them against similar struggling Kings team. The Pacers are great at shooting the ball ranking 1st in the NBA in effective FG% and are excellent in the mid range and near proximity, where they can dominate the Kings. The Kings shooting defense is not the best as they rank 29th in 3PT% and 24th in effective FG%. The Kings have allowed an average of 124 PPG their L3 and the Pacers need to attack the rim in this one. The Kings are 9-11 ATS at home and the Pacers are 11-8 ATS on the road.
