(705) DALLAS MAVERICKS
(706) SAN ANTONIO SPURS
Take "Under"
A tough spot for Dallas, playing its third game in four nights. The offense has a tough two days, playing a physical Cleveland defense on Monday, then flying to San Antonio to face another physical team. San Antonio knows how to play great defense for coach Gregg Popovich. Badly outmanned in the frontcourt in their first two games, the Spurs hope to have both starting center Fabricio Oberto and first-year power forward Anthony Tolliver back in uniform for Tuesday's game against Dallas. Their offense is missing a huge piece: San Antonio has had to adjust to playing without Manu Ginobili, who had offseason ankle surgery and wasn't expected to return until December. Look for more defense than offense, play the Mavs/Spurs under the total.

(57) NASHVILLE PREDATORS
(58) VANCOUVER CANUCKS
Take "(58) VANCOUVER CANUCKS"
First game on a tough road swing for the Predators and it's often in that opening game of a trip we see teams struggle. Vancouver is off a tough loss to Detroit, but Roberto Luongo looks like he's starting to get sharp, and I'm starting to think the Canucks might be a little better than I thought at the start of the season. I like their chances at home tonight.

Today's Lock: Phoenix Suns -5.5

Phoenix is 100% healthy. Let's bet on the Suns now while this old veteran team remains healthy. The Nets are coming off a terrible loss to the Warriors. New Jersey is not a strong team this year. They'll be lucky to win 25 game this season. Steve Nash and the Suns will dispose of the Nets tonight

200* San Antonio Spurs

All San Antonio minus the small home chalk tonight. After all given the awful start for Dallas losing 2 of their first three games and now playing their fourth game in six days I don’t like the Mavericks chances tonight. Not when Dallas is being asked to travel to San Antonio to face a Spurs team hungry for their first win of the season. Also helping things out is the fact that the Spurs did win 3 of the 4 series meetings straight up last season. So thanks to being at home minus a small chalk I look for the Spurs to notch their first win of the season against a tired Dallas team. All San Antonio minus the points.

100* Miami-Ohio

Nothing big tonight on the gridiron, but thanks to Miami owning this series I looking for a closer then expected game tonight in the MAC. I mean even though Miami has sucked this year the one stat I can’t look past is the fact that the RedHawk are an all-time 10-0 SU against Buffalo, including a dominating 9-0 SU since the Bulls have joined the MAC in 1999. So while I look for Buffalo to get their first win ever against Miami I don’t expect it to be more then a touchdown. Take Miami plus the road points.

Miami (OH) at Buffalo

Certainly, Buffalo brings in the more impressive resume of the two teams, but laying more than a touchdown appears to be dangerous territory for Turner Gill's squad. They are 0-2 ATS in said spot this season with both wins coming by a combined margin of five points. Miami, meanwhile, has performed well for its backers when getting more than a touchdown as the RedHawks are 3-1 vs. the number, including an outright win at Bowling Green.

Play on: Miami (OH)

Miami Ohio +9 over Buffalo
Buffalo has won some big games this year, but Miami has won the last ten meetings between these schools and until the lose to Buffalo we have to take them as 9 point dogs. Both teams have struggling defenses which should make this a see-saw game. Look for this to go to the wire. Anything can happen in the MAC. Take Miami-Ohio.

Tuesday night winners ...

800? BUFFALO and 200? OVER - Buffalo's annihilation tonight will lead to us getting the over, so soak this analysis in as an all-in-one for the side and total winner.

The Bulls come in off a pair of wins, and have been putting together some offensive spurts that should knock Miami-O out early on. We've seen Buffalo score at least 25 points in six of its eight contests this season, and that's a huge difference against a team that is averaging 18.5 points this season - ranking 106th with the scoring offense. If you toss out a 38-point performance against Charleston Southern, you're looking at 15.7 points per game.

On the other side of the ball, Miami-O's scoring defense has been atrocious, as it comes in after giving up 54 points at home to Kent State, a 2-7 team that has looked terrible all season. The Redhawks' scoring defense is 91st in the nation, giving up an average of 30.1 points per game.

In all, the 4-4 Bulls aren't anything to brag about this season on the whole, but after two straight wins, and this one being at home on national TV with a chance to inch closer to bowl eligibility, I expect a blowout win with the total to soar past the posted number.

PHOENIX SUNS vs. NEW JERSEY NETS

The Phoenix Suns shot 50 percent from the floor last season which was the highest field-goal percentage in the NBA in 11 years and they're off to an even more impressive start this season. The Suns will visit the Nets tonight after a compiled NBA-best 24-6 record against the East last season. Phoenix (2-1) averaged 110.1 points last season and shot 50 percent from the field which was the highest shooting percentage in the NBA since the 1996-97 season. They shot even better against the East making 50.1 percent while posting the league's best interconference record. Phoenix has started this season even better shooting 52.8 percent and coming off their best performance yet. Phoenix made 55.1 percent of its shots on Saturday against Portland rallying from a halftime deficit to win 107-96. Steve Nash is averaging 19.0 ppg and shooting 60.0 percent from 3-point range and the Suns are also getting strong efforts inside from the duo of Amare Stoudemire and Shaquille O'Neal. Stoudemire is averaging a double-double scoring 22.0 points and pulling down 11.0 rebounds per game while O'Neal is averaging 13.0 and 9.7 respectively. Stoudemire shot the ball well against the Nets last season as he averaged 30.5 points and 12.0 rebounds shooting 74.2 percent. Jason Kidd and Richard Jefferson are both gone from the Nets as they are rebuilding around the young core of Devin Harris and Yi Jianlian although the two haven't played well so far. After beating Washington in their season opener, the Nets lost 105-97 to Golden State on Saturday as Jianlian was 0-for-4 and went scoreless while Harris was 3-for-12 and finished with 13 points. Center Josh Boone was 7-for-15 for 17 points and pulled down 14 rebounds after contributing just four points and three boards in the opener. The Nets lone star Vince Carter is averaging 27.9 points lifetime against the Suns but he doen"t have any suport this year to match up with the Suns tonight.

Stu's 50 DIME NBA Election Special (SF1)

Boston Celtics (177') at Houston Rockets (-3) - 8:30 p.m. EST

This will be a physical basketball game that will be predicated by defense as it stays under the total, just as nine of the last 11 meetings between these two in Houston have. Last year, the Celtics came to the Toyota Center and put the defensive clamps down in snapping Houston’s 22-game win streak with a 94-74 victory. I don’t see Houston topping 80 points in this one either, but wish the addition of enforcer Ron Artest to a healthy Yao Ming, they will battle defensively tough in helping this game stay low. Both these teams are only making around 40 percent of their field goal attempts while the Celtics are limiting their opponents to 37% shooting and the Rockets 40%. Boston shot just 35 percent in their Saturday night loss at Indiana. Rick Adelman has been preaching defense in Houston and the Rockets have held their last two visiting opponents to under 80 points. Lots of jawing in the paint tonight and points will be tough to come by as this one stays under.
