Should be a good fight

The newly crowned Strikeforce Light Heavyweight Champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal will be putting his championship crown on the line for the first time against dangerous Brazilian striker Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante in August.
FiveOuncesofPain.com recently learned of the anticipated match-up through sources close to the promotion.
The title clash is expected to take place on August 21 from Houston, Texas, while no venue for the event has been announced as of this writing.
Undefeated and widely considered to be among the best light heavyweights in the business, Lawal (7-0) stripped the Strikeforce championship from the waist of Gegard Mousasi during “Strikeforce: Nashville” with a convincing one-sided unanimous decision victory on April 17 of this year. While respected as one of the most dangerous wrestler’s in MMA, Lawal has established a reputation as a knockout artist during his less than two years spent in the sport, finishing 5 of his 7 victories via KO or TKO.
Standing across from Mo in his quest to successfully defend his title for the first time will be another 205 lb. fighter with a nasty reputation in the business as a knockout specialist.
More commonly known by his nickname “Feijao”, Cavalcante (9-2-1) has finished 8 of his 9 victims via KO or TKO. Feijao trains out of the highly respected Black House Gym that includes UFC notables such as Anderson Silva and The Nogueira Brothers. He is currently riding a two-fight win streak that includes stoppages of Antwain Britt and Aaron Rosa after being knocked senseless at the hands of Mike Kyle during “Strkeforce: Lawler vs. Shields” in June of 2009.

Re: King Mo vs Fejao Aug 21st
hopefully the Houston card will be a good one, this is a good start
-
Re: King Mo vs Fejao Aug 21st
Jacare vs. Tim Kennedy possible for this card also
-
Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
Hendo -Babalu may also be on this card now:
Quote:
HENDERSON BACK TO 205, BABALU REMATCH LIKELY
Dan Henderson's Strikeforce debut didn't go quite the way the former UFC and Pride fighter had hoped. After nearly knocking out Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields in the opening round, Henderson faded late, worn down by Shields’ takedowns and ground and pound over the remaining rounds.
Looking for a return to action, Henderson plans to move back to 205 pounds after a rough weight cut made the fight against Shields that much harder. He could be staring down a rematch with Renato "Babalu" Sobral this fall.
The move to light heavyweight also virtually guarantees Henderson won't be a part of a possible Strikeforce middleweight tournament to crown a new champion now that Jake Shields has officially exited the promotion.
"Dan I believe when I talked to him over the weekend, I talked to Jordan, his manager, and they said they probably want to fight at 205 instead of 185," said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker when appearing on MMAWeekly.com Radio. "(They) felt that the weight cut was too much, and Dan would welcome to fight Babalu again, Gegard Mousasi, for a 205-pound contender's bout.
"I don't think you'll see Dan in the 185-pound tournament, although stranger things have happened in MMA, right?"
Mousasi is more than likely out of the running for a possible bout with Henderson due to his addition to the upcoming Dream Light Heavyweight Grand Prix that kicks off on July 10. He’ll face Jake O'Brien in the first round of that tournament.
As far as the timing for the fight, the Aug. 21 event seems off the table for Henderson's return, but a show in the fall would be a likely fit for a bout between Henderson and Babalu.
"We haven't finalized it, but I would think the top two guys, Babalu and Gegard, depends on what happens with Gegard, but I think a fight between Babalu and Dan is something we might pursue in the very near future," Coker stated.
"I don't want to disrespect, but I would like to fight (Henderson). It's going to be 11 years since I fought him. It's a long time, and please, it would be an honor to fight him again, to have the chance to fight Dan Henderson," said Sobral after his recent win over Robbie Lawler in Los Angeles.
Henderson and Sobral met for the first time in 2000 in the Rings "King of Kings" tournament. They fought to a decision, with Henderson getting the nod, but this was after both fighters had already fought two times earlier in the night

From what I keep seeing it looks like this fight is going to happen and its going to be for Jake Shields 185 pound belt

Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
This card is looking sick.
Strikeforce' 185 pound division is by far their best.

Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
Bobby Lashley will face Chad Griggs.

Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
Wait what happened to the 8 man MW tournament idea? Did Strikeforce jam more dicks in their ass?

Its suppose to be a later event .Oct I think

Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
from what I heard they are scrapping the eight man thing and doing a 4 man tournament. The winner of that faces the winner of Jacara/Kennedy for the first title defense.

Coker said the plan was still for an 8 man tourney. 8 guys fighting in Oct. Then 4 guys fightiing twice in one evening in Dec to crown the champ. The winner of the 8 man tourney would then fight the Jacre-Kennedy winner.
This was just two days ago:
Quote:
“We always felt that crowning a champion would be the first priority,” said Coker. “We will host a tournament in October. It looks like the first round will take place then, which will lead to the final four in December.”
Coker said the promotion has initial plans to run the semi-finals and finals in one evening this December.

Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
Do commissons in the US allow 2 fights in one night now?
-
Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
It's not the number of fights that the unified rules cover. They simply state that a fighter cannot fight for more than 25 minutes in one night. So most likely the first fight will be 2 rounds and the second, or finals of the tournament will be a 3 round fight.

Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
I'm intrigued.
If this could be the re-introduction of true tournaments in the US (with fighters fighting more than once a night) then it could prove to be very interesting indeed.

Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
I just read Jeff Monson will be fighting in Strikeforce around OCT

It might be their general rules for one night tournaments. 3-min rounds sounds like a way to stay under the limit that fighters are allowed to fight on a given day.

There's no rule against fighting twice in one night. The rule is that a fighter can only fight 25 minutes in one night.

Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
Hmm, maybe they worked out something with the commission where they could go up to 27?

I just saw Gurgel is fighting KJ Noons. I really think Gurgel is going to have a hard time winning this one for sure. Gurgel just doesn't beat guys that I've heard of.
-
Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
^^^ will probably be another huge line on Noons anyway
-
Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
Horrible style matchup for Gurgel. I will be on Noons up to my limit of -250 (too bad he will be -400)

So you feel Noons takes this one 73ish% of the time?
-
Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
^^ yeah. Gurgel, flat out cannot take Noons down. Since Noons is a much better striker, I favor Noons a lot. Even if he gets him down, Gurgel is not a submission machine. His ground game is pretty overrated IMO.

Except when he got triangled by Cole Miller. . .

Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
Just took a quick look at Lashley's opponent. If he comes in as a underdog of any significance he may be worth a bet. He's 8-1 with 8 (T)KOs (if you count a verbal submission as a TKO). Most of his opponents aren't guys important enough to have a Wikipdia entry, but it's not like Lashley's beat anyone important yet, either.
-
Re: Strikeforce Houston Aug 21st
Holy shit, Vinny Magahlaes is on this card.
Did anyone hear realize that he has a LOSING MMA record?
He's 4-5. I did not expect that.

I literally have been waiting for the right fight to bet against Lashley. When it was announced he might fight Shane, i actually started to drool.
