I'm not sure I know what power metal is, but in my view this right here further reinforces my view that metal as a genre is constantly shifting and evolving and changing. I do think there do have to be SOME requirements in order for something to be metal. I mean, the fucking Spin Doctors aren't metal. Soundgarden isn't metal. The Foo Fighters aren't metal, even though somehow they won an award the other day for "best metal song." But a lot of bands are that have a wide range of sounds.

Power Metal is usually a symphonic type genre dealing in a classic metal/speed metal fusion sound and alot of the time has themed concepts like historical epics and dragons and shit. It's a main contributing factor of what eventually led to glam and alot of pop-metal because it's arena-friendly by sound. Think Scorpions, Rainbow/Dio, Accept, Manowar, Armored Saint, Metal Church, and more recently Metalium, Dragonforce, Edguy, Hammerfall, Prototype, Sonata Artica, and Stratovarius

Like who/what exactly are you referring to?

Municipal Waste: I really like the sound they put out
Gwar: Ham on the Bone, Penguin Attack, The New Plague, Maggots, and Hell-o Medley are probably the best examples
Bad Acid Trip: Takes some getting used to
Dr Living Dead: A little wierd in the same way Green Jello was back in the day

I have, of course, heard GWAR, but I've never gone out of my way to listen to them.

If you haven't heard it, I would suggest listening to Train of Thought. It's heavier and different from pretty much everything else they've done. It was the first album of theirs that I heard and I was pretty much an instant fan. Unfortunately, everything else has been disappointing.

This was the first Dream Theater song I ever heard (in a shortened radio version) and after I heard it I was like, Fuck yeah! Then I went and bought the album like the next day.

I'm pretty sure I'm not confused on it. It was a good piece. He wasn't very enthusiastic about anything, or maybe thats just how his voice sounds.

Well I think he's trying to be an objective, dispassionate documentarian.

But he makes a lot of comments about how he's a metalhead and basically says "War Metal!" on a number of occasions.
